This is a little more complicated to learn than the competition, or the earlier simpler model, but you sure can get some alien life out of this box. This was designed for the sound and tone master's. You get this baby sorted out and will have endless creativity, especially after you put it at the end of your OD/DS effects chain. Man I play with this for hours, sometimes forget the time! This is a great sounding delay. The dry path sounds excellent and the delay quality is very high, especially considering it is bucket brigade chips. The tone control is an excellent addition, allowing the character of the delay signal to be tweaked to suit any application. The gain control allows the user to push the repeats harder or to ease off, which is similar in functionality to the Record level on an Echoplex. The delay line can be brought up louder than the dry signal which is great for compensating for volume loss from more extreme frequency cuts via the tone dial. It has a unique voice among other analog delays and it justifies its place among other BBD delays such as the Carbon Copy, Memory Man and Boss DM offerings. Nowadays the once-unique tap tempo controls have been since copied on other units, but it is still fun to use, offers great controls and the chase mode options are still in a class of their own. Great sounding double drive. My favorite is to stack them, but you have to get the drive ratios right and cut the highs or it feeds back like crazy. I found no matter where one drive knob is there is a sweet spot with the other where it will just start to feed back a tiny bit with the strings muted. Experimenting with this you can get smoother or more aggressive sound without feedingback, depending on which drive is the "hotter" one. But the feedback can also be a good thing depending on what you are going for. This also is balanced against what you do with the eq options you have. You can color just a little, like a boost, or get pretty aggressive OD. There is a ton of tweakability, just keep in mind what you are feeding from one gain stage into the next. Also, when you stack, the tone is very different vs using either side alone. It doesn't just changr the gain characteristics. You simply will have to selectively dial some things out to keep things under control when stacked. You can keep a nice single drive dialed in and push it just a bit with the other stacked in front, but dialed down. Or you can have insane gainy feedback on a foot switch if you want. I love a good delay pedal, and I had heard a few good things about the Aqua Puss, so I decided to give it a try. After getting one, it took me less than a full minute to realize that I didn't like it. First off, 300ms is pretty much useless, unless you are only into slapback. Second, the repeats sound extremely synthetic. When using my MXR Carbon Copy or Keeley Mag Echo, I enjoy the natural, organic, degraded repeats that you get from these pedals. The Aqua Puss gives you these nasty video gamey repeats, and only at slapback style lengths. Even if you're into slapback, there are better options out there, and most give you the versatility of going beyond a single use case.CoopDbomb

This way huge swollen pickle has probably been used live at 100 shows. it's one of the few constants that stayed on my board over the years. the outer shell is guarded by none other than science fictions greatest protagonist "r2d2" as well as his trusty side kick luke sky-something-or-rather. despite their loyal guardianship this pedal has taken a beating. the front writing is worn off, there's some velcro on the back and it's probably been covered in more beer than your average college freshman at their first kegger. despite this pedals sordid past it still functions as well as it did new. way huge cases are built like no other, the electronics are all perfect and there's even two little mini adjustment knobs inside. this pedal has a lot of character and i hope it goes to a home that uses it as much as i did.

I use this pedal with a 5 string bass and let me tell you, I can keep my deep presence in the low end while mixing in a very dynamic fuzz using just this pedal. With the cruch feature (essentially a compressor) I can get very even fuzz for long droning sustain and the scoop feature is very helpful to get that high and low spiked sound everyone loves on bass. An excellent pedal for a great price for any bass player wanting that extra fuzz tone without losing their low end. Unsure if this is for you? This is an incredible pedal. The tone is phenomenal. I have several distortion, overdrive and fuzz pedals. This pedal achieves the smoothest fuzz tone of all my pedals. The fuzz pedals I use are Fulltone '69, Fulltone Soulbender and have also used a '70. The best part of the pedal are the Crunch and Scoop adjustments. It really adds an entirely greater range of tonality to the pedal. The tonal range is very wide. You can get a great fuzz tone, or a fantastic distortion tone or get a Boss Metal Zone, mid scooped type tone. Another interesting distinguishing factor is the on/off switch. It is different than any other pedal. It has a nice feel when engaging. Highly recommended.gotommyko
On the whole, it's a quality pedal with some very good tones in it. True bypass and solid construction. But as I usually find with distortions that have more than three knobs, it has more than one sound I like, but they're not readily accessable. So I rate it pretty high for studio and recording application. But live, not so much. When I know there is a sound I like available at my feet I kinda want it right there. But it's too big and too expensive to put two of these on your board. And I'm not much into getting down on my knees during a set. Ya can't always get what ya want….waxout

I cannot recommend this pedal enough. I play an ES-335 with 57 classics and an SG with P-90s through a Vox AC-30. With the P-90s, the sound is just insanely clear, even at the highest "anger" setting. For the first time, I can hear every note in the chord clearly. With the ES-335, the sound is super-sweet and crystal clear again. I have always hated OD/distortion pedals because of their muddiness. This thing is the answer to my dreams. You get the sound of your guitar and your playing with no messiness. Even at the top anger setting, there is plenty of headroom and clarity in your sound. Amazing. Just amazing.

I have only used one other fuzz pedal before (the fuzz face mini), so I have no other frame of reference to compare this pedal to. The swollen pickle has a huge variety of settings compared to the FF. I was looking for a fuzz pedal to get some Fu Manchu or Nebula like tones. This will do that. The swollen pickle does not like to be used in conjunction with some of my other distortion pedals though. Works great with modulation and delay pedals. It's built like a tank, it sure looks road worthy. I got it for a small board though, and it takes up a fair amount of real estate. For the tones, I guess it's a compromise I'll make. I'm happy enough with the SP that I'm sure I will eventually get some other Way Huge pedals.MCL

I've never been much into fuzz pedals and despite not finding more than one online demo for this pedal that I liked, I decided to give it a try. People seem to want to max out or all but max out the gain in most demos and they also seem to insist on running the tone knob way too high. But this pedal can sound really nice at a milder setting which is what I wanted. It also sounds fantastic going into the Overrated Special. You get a very convincing Eric Johnson lead tone doing so.Seth

Way Huge is always a great brand for pedal effect with very good quality from the inside to the outside, but for my particular case I feel this overdrive doesn't match my playing style, maybe I feel there's a bit too much of compression so the dynamics are flatten and the harmonics are restrict. The only other overdrive pedal i was fimiliar with before this one was Beringer's TO800 which is a great pedal for the price (£20) but lacked bass, which i understand, most overdrives suffer from hence the purchase of the Green Rhino pedal. How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad

Overall: I really wanted to like this pedal because of its fuzz effect, which is very good. The distortion was O.K. but not the best, although it is workable. The biggest problem with this pedal is the fact that the clean mix does not work 100%. It is too slight and does not give you much room for keeping your bass fundamental tone. Your sound loses its bottom end. Not good!! I believe this is a huge mistake in the part of the person who designed this pedal because it is marketed to bassists. If a bassist cannot get a strong low end s/he will take that pedal and get rid of it; rightfully so! Which is what I did.

I can't even guess the number of overdrive/distortion/metal pedals I have ranging from gritty pieces of junk to expensive collector's item boutique boxes and for what I do there are two pedals I demand using for the last couple years which are the Green Rhino and the Dark Matter… For tightening up already very dirty amps/pre-amps this is it! I own the Maxxon overdrives every heavy dude considers to be the standard of tightening up metal amps but they don't touch the Green Rhino! The 100Hz fine tune knob is so great for dialing in extra punch in your tone and I actually love the tone of this pedal so much I dial up the distortion on it, max the volume and cut a little gain on my amps (ENGL Fireball 100/Marshall JVM410H). You have to watch for some signal clipping sometimes but if that's the case just dial out some volume on the pedal. In my experience you CAN NOT go wrong with Dunlop's Way Huge pedals!UberF

I was so excited about this pedal. I took it out of the package and plugged it in immediately. I was then confronted by the fact that the 9v battery connector was missing. It had been left in the body of the unit and no one at quality control had noticed. I sent an email to Dunlop expecting a quick response as the pedal is brand new. Never got one. Huge disappointment.
I ended up taking care of this issue myself. The pedal itself is killer but the lack of q.c. and response to this issue is a bit ridiculous.

I'd seen a number of reviews of this pedal on YouTube and decided I'd get one. If you're just after some extreme distortion there are plenty of other pedals out there for that but if you want something a bit more 'out there' then the Atreides is probably more your sort of thing.
