On the surface, the Boss ME-20B is more professional than the toy Zoom pedals I had, but what I personally find frustrating & problematic is that once fired up you have to enter another mode in order to take advantage of what's on offer. With Zoom, at least you're ready to go from the word go! That may seem as if it's a little whinge over a minor issue, but I believe that simplicity is the most efficient way for productivity; the less buttons/pedals activated – the less things can go wrong. Thought I'd find things easier on a Boss unit than the toy Zoom pedals I had – but at least they were more transparent..baronvonblues
For the price you really can't go wrong. I'm very happy with it. It's pretty easy to use as long as you have the manual. It looks cool and it feels durable. And most important, the effects sound great! I love the distortion, flange, chorus, wah, overdrive and delay. Octaver is top notch. Synth is pretty good and defretter is pretty good. Also, I'm extremely happy with the combination of the distortion and bass enhance. It keeps a nice low end without making it sound like an electric guitar.joeb1supreme
I use the wah with my Fender P Bass Special frequently. Adequate wahness. Probably there are more dramatic dedicated wah units but this one works for me. When I watch my guitarist plug together all the units on his pedal boards I think, Been there, done that. I like the convenience of all-in-one board. Leaves more time to chat w new people. This unit is a great size. Easily fits into my crowded gig bag. LED read-out is effective. Even in bright sunlight. More and more I'm learning to use the volume pedal as a special fx. Use the tuner every gig, of course. Like the chorus. So far I have not gotten effective settings for t-wah and others. But I'm super happy with the basics as described above. Am using a new, light-weight G-K MB210. The ME20b works well with it. Have had mine a few months – like it a lot – but have yet to fully explore the features. While time will tell, the first few months' appreciation is very positive. Switches and foot pedal work well. The case is sturdy. Don't feel like I have to baby it. This MXR covers all of the tones I need. I am playing a passive bass through a PA. I mainly need some boost and some color. This works great. I rarely use the distortion. The pedal really add to the bottom end. I reduces that hollow tone you can get playing live in an acoustical challenging room.
Whenever I turn on this pedal, distortion or not it sounds like someone just woke up a beehive, The actual clean sound is pretty good but when you really dig into the pups it starts to make that pop sound louder which is a big issue for me at least, (shouldn't be due to volume increase) when the distortion is on, there's even more buzz AND it's a very bad distortion. The distortion also doesn't have a wide range of sounds and is only really usable at minimum gain and the blend knob almost all the way back, just get an OD , and an EQ pedal, trust me.Undisclosed
I typically run a clean bass signal with no effects (except for a compressor pedal). I purchased this pedal because of the DI, Equalizer control, Distortion (as needed) and 9v operation. (1) The DI sounds pretty good and records clean. (2) The Equalizer control is a little too sensitive for my taste, but it does shape the sound as expected. I feel that a +/- 12db 4-band Equalizer would have been better with frequency bands of 80Hz, 360Hz, 800Hz and 5kHz. (3) The Distortion is pretty good and fits the bill when needed. Like most distortion pedals, it is slightly thin when "on". But this pedal can balance a clean (low) and distorted tone for a good balance. (4) The pedal operates on the same 9v supply/polarity that virtually all other pedals operate on (center negative). I find this convenient when operating all pedals on my Big Joe Lithium Power Supply. In summary I'm happy with my purchase and it resides in my set-up all of the time.SLoveland

Used this through a JP bass cub bg120 amp and found the overdrive was noisy. Didn’t find the tone to my liking. The compressor just knocks back the volume way too much. Lots of effects, but doesn’t perform very well. Sent back for a refund as I knew I wasn’t going to get on with it.

I just got this as an x-mas present and it is amazing. The fuzz is very variable, and can go from ballsy, overdriven growl, to warm, 70s fuzz. This is a very average pedal. I have been using a regular Russian Big Muff pedal for a while and like it a lot. I was expecting the Blogger to blow the other away but it did not. In fact I think the fuzz is creamier and the bass tones bigger through the regular Big Muff. The Blogger is too focused on the midrange and sounds very flat.none-AlOY8
The Blogger brings a nice subtle OD and subtle to synthy fuzz to the bass. The OD does not lose bass frequencies and works well with solid state and tube preamps. The Fuzz works, with either amp type of course, but there is a loss of bass the harder you turn the fuzz up. You can compensate for that by adjusting your amp or blending a dry signal with other gear. I have filtered power and all my pedals (dirt alike) are dead quiet or get very small hiss with really high gain. This pedal acts like a normal dirt pedal with just the battery, but the noise was half as loud as the notes when I was playing with an EHX adapter. Overall you are getting two pedals in one and get nice sounds. But the adapter issue and having to deal bass loss with fuzz makes this one not a keeper for me. This is a fine unit that has tremendous functionality and given some time and effort there is almost no tone that cannot be extracted from this unit. Unfortunately Line 6 goes out of their way to make it an unpleasant experience. Unless of course your willing to fork over more money for software that other companies would give you for free, or at least substantially less than Line 6 charges. You shouldn't have to shell out hundreds of dollars for a unit followed by hundreds more for some software to get the most out of it. For a nine year old effects floorboard, this is a great value for someone (like me) who wants several effects without spending $100-200 per pedal. Line 6 is generous with this one, Ive only had it two weeks and theres still plenty of sonic discoveries to be had. Cant compare it to Line 6s new units, but this one looks cool, sounds even better. Couldnt care less that it happens to be all modeling, I can plug a bass in, then in the blink of an eye pick up the guitar without unplugging from the bass amp and still get a huge stellar amp tone for ultimate chunder. This is a pretty good bag. The quality is excellent and it looks/feels like it will last quite a while. I bought this for my Line 6 Pod hd500x and it works "ok" for it. The bag could be a bit more snug so the Pod does not flop back and forth when you carry it. Length wise there is extra room and a spacer which allows you to carry some extra cables or a power strip, but I am talking about the snugness on the top and bottom. I may try adding an extra foam pad to see if this helps. I know this bag was not specifically made for the Pod so I can't fault it too much for not fitting 100%. I get a variety of good, useable tones out of this one box. In fact, this has replaced the distortion patches I was using on my trusty DOD Bass 30 entirely. To say that I am happy with any stock stompbox is a big deal, because I have only a few left in my collection that I haven't modified the circuitry in to better suit me. This is one of the few originals, and that says volumes. I step on mine regularly, and haven't had any issues with it. I'm not a bass player, but I play one on my records. I've been playing lead guitar for 20 years, and I know good sounds. I say this to inform you that my credentials are in good order. You can get any sort of growl you want, thick or thin- and as much or little of the clean as you need to retain the punch at the same time. The only thing I would change is the color of the box… Since that has absolutely nothing to do with the sound it makes, I'm fine with it. Seriously, I was skeptical too when I saw the price. I got this a while back to add a some gain to play a bit of metal with a bit of overdrive on top as well as fattening the sound of the bass. Unfortunately this will never give you a "smooth" gain sound like having a guitar amp's gain around 2. Having gain down all the way shuts off all sound to the amp, and having it around 2/10 puts on a harsh brittle overdrive no matter the EQ. Sounds a little better with flatwound strings. This pedal goes all out or nothing. If a "Hysteria" sound is what you're going for, this will do it but not a true amp low/med-gain sound.Fear

I've got both the GT-1 and the GT-1B units and they are so different. I don't know why, but I find the bass unit much easier to use. The effects shapes that you want are so much easier to dial in. Maybe it's something to do with the distortion types that each unit tries to emulate – you get loads on the GT-1 and only a few on the GT-1B. And the amp emulations too – you get maybe 1/2 – 2/3 on the bass unit. What I would say is that it is well worth spending some time doing a deep-dive of the sounds you can get out of this unit. There's not much help here, you will have to grind to get the sound you want, but it probably will be there somewhere. The Boss Tone sounds lab will only get you so far and there really aren't any shortcuts that I've found to the sort of tone I want for any specific patch. It's worth spending the time noodling around with the unit and at least you can set up a load of blank presets by whatever category you want (I set up amp emulators in 10-set batches). Would I buy it again? Yep, absolutely. If you asked me that about the GT-1, I might not be so sure.Cat F.
The BOSS GT-1B is a really great piece of kit. Was obsessing with synth pedals but couldn't decide which one and then would require an expression pedal etc. The Boss SY-1 doesn't offer presets. I'm pleased with the GT-1B – many many possibilities for designing patches, built in expression pedal & 99 presets. Loads of PROS – Great value. The potential options for combining effects is vast. The build is great, knobs & buttons work easily. I dont use it as a standalone but combine with some analogue pedals, which is a good set up. Still saves plenty of space on pedalboard. CONS – you have to put some graft to get familiar with the software and best usage. There are instructions for the basic operation, using the buttons/dials on the unit but to get the full hang of the software for assigning parameters within patches, BOSS do not supply much info. There are some useful vids online though and chat on talkbass etc – Octave fx doesn't always track brilliantly. Is OK and perfectly usable, but not long sustain. – The Synth fx can be a bit OTT & erratic, if up too high. But great synth type sounds achieved with combining envelope, fuzz, octave, wave etc I haven't used any other effects processor so can't directly compare, but the unit has more than surpassed my main reasons for buying it. Sometimes you need the low ends of the B-string of a 5-string bass. I have one but I dont like playing on it. I am a 4-string player!. My solution for those B-string needed songs: the Aguilar Octamizer. It works great. The sound is good. The Octamizer is monophonic so I had to work a bit on my playing style. Warning: watch your bass cabinet!!

Original first generation digitech bass whammy pitch shift pedal s/n 3956349 made in canadain excellent condition and full working order. comes with european 9 volt ac adapter ( alternating current adapter ). the bass whammy is a whammy pedal built for bass guitar. originally released alongside the whammy ii, it was built in the same chassis but in a deep violet/purple color. it also featured a different set of shift and harmony options, more appropriate for use with a bass instrument. since the original first generation bass whammy has been discontinued, they are now known to fetch very high prices on the used market.digitech released the second generation bass whammy at the 2014 winter namm show. housed in the same chassis as the digitech whammy v, but again in blue, it also features the new classic/chords switch and true-bypass switching. like the original, it is equipped with a unique set of shift and harmony options more appropriate for bass.

This is a great pedal if you are looking to add chord tones to your playing. This effect requires some imagination but if you are a "School Days" fan that is a good place to start realizing the possiblities. This is a solidly built and great sounding pedal but I realize it won't fit a lot of bass players styles. It works for me though!ChillyG
I recently have been given one of these and spend many hours playing my fender precision bass through it. The sound is really good, maybe even improved from the original. The "dive bomb" is spectacular, and the passage through different octaves feels very smooth and natural. The only thing I didnt like is that the button you have is just to bypass the pedal, so you need to change the effect manually, while I seem to remember that the original 90s pedal had a down/up selection you could range through while playing… you see… hands need to stay on the strings 🙂
I own the original and this exceeds my expectations. I'm A little disappointed that digitech eliiminated the gain dial from the original model as it does drop your signal down a little. I also miss the push button selection, but this thing is way more sturdy. I love that they retained all the original settings and added a few more. Tracking is significantly improved over the original. 9 volt input is a welcome change. :D.Mike

Very high-quality electronics, clear and punchy sound with nice EQ voicing. I've found the distortion tone blends into the mix when I'm playing with a band, yet to get a tone that really cuts through unless I bypass the whole pedal and use the EQ to make the distortion stand out. Good range of sounds after resetting to the factory presents, but enough like my other Zoom pedal to be able to program tweaks. Put a few good sounds up front, some basic punch, some Chris Squire next to that, use it in church, mess around with the whacky stuff over the weekend. No expression pedal which makes it pack up in the little purple bag more easily, but again, 5 0r 6 songs on a Sunday morning once or twice a month it fits the bill! Tuner while bypassed, great! Originally purchased as a basic practice tool so I could play along with a drum beat and wear headphones to keep the neighbors happy. After owning for a while and really getting into some of the amp models and effects, it turns out this is one really cool piece of gear. It has some very good presets and with a little tweaking, you can come up with some amazing sounds. Have tried several basses with the unit, and all sound good. I was interested in finding a processor that would give me great bass tone first and foremost. I'm not into a lot of the effects on bass. Maybe one or two here and there on a few songs. I just wanted a unit that would help me get that great big fat tone that you hear on recordings. I have to say that this thing did deliver. You have many amp tones to start with, several great compressors, exciters, sonic maximizers, a Sansamp driver, speaker emulations. These are modeled after high dollar reputable name brand units. This is the least expensive thing I could find out there that would give me all of this. I highly recommend this unless you have thousands of dollars and a bunch of time to experiment to find something better. This is the only pedal i own, and I'm really pleased with it. I really like the compression/EQ patches,and some of the other effects. This pedal was advertised as USED.. but it looks and Sounds brand NEW! I'm not a techno guy.,so this unit works for me because it's pretty easy to use. I am very happy with this pedal. Looking forward to using it through the P.A. My mark bass mini CMD combo 12 sounds great . Very close to my real 64 Bassman. Thinking about adding a 15 inch speaker but probably not necessary. Being an old school bass player this really is great for the songs my band plays.
Easy to work with, has a great soundstage to it and to my ears sounds better than Radial DI and plug-ins. Does have a little ‘woofy’ sound to it that a little post eq cut ( in the box) would help. But a great product to get that vintage bass sound. My go to bass sound for recordings! Recommend!
In my opinion, as a bass player since 1967, and a luthier/tube amp tech since 1973 Simon Keats at Origin Effects designs the best sounding pedals (reproductions of vintage amps & compressors) and are the highest quality pedals on the planet. I bought both Bassrig versions which duplicate their respective amps ( the '64, a Fender blackface Showman and the Super Vintage, an Ampeg SVT) which reproduce very accurately these amps from the input to the output jack, and both even have a cab sim on the XLR output. I couldn't be happier with them. Yes, they're pretty expensive, but you always get what you pay for with Origin Effects.johnk
