At a point several years back I only owned Active Basses, but in the space of two months proceeded to acquire several High-End Basses with Passive Electronics, I was in need for something in my signal chain to raise the output of the Passives to the level of my Active Basses. I took the advice of a close friend who's a true "Professional Bassist" who also knows a great deal about the technical issues of Pedalboards, Large-Scale Amplification and such and picked up the Xotic Bass RC Booster which was the highest-quality he could recommend (I'd rather spend the money once rather than upgrade from a "Beginner's Pedal" to a "Midrange Model" and so on…) That was once of the best pieces of advice I've been given in terms of gear, as to this day the Bass RC Booster is a main piece of equipment on my Pedalboard. Between the 2-Band EQ, Gain & Volume controls I'm able to raise the level of my own Passive Basses or a Bass that I'm using at a Jam or Open Mic to the levels of my Active Bass, which I have all adjusted to Unity Gain as to cause as little issues as possible. Two surprising use of note: with a minimal increase in Volume the Pedal becomes just as useful as a Volume Boost to both Passive & Active Basses for solos, drum 'n bass breakdowns and other times where it's necessary to step out into the spotlight a bit more. Secondly, when the Gain is pushed towards the higher registers you can even can a quite useable "SVT"-type Overdrive. Even players who play with a clean tone will certainly find this added bonus helpful in both live and studio situations. To sum up the Xotic RC Bass Booster, it's an extremely high build-and sonic quality, low noise & versatile Boost effect. Its additional use as a light Overdrive effects is just as effective in its field. I use this often on my Pedalboard, and would replace it immediately if it were lost or stolen. A bit pricey when initially purchasing, it makes up for that as you're buying a Professional Quality effect, and would not have any need to replace with a "better one" a year or so down the road. This is all one would need to cover this area of effects!
I have an Xotic AC Booster and it is one of my fav pedals. At the start of my chain – after the buffer – I have a Compressor, then an old DOD Preamp 250, followed by my AC. I like the sound, but had this setup for a while and was just looking to shake things up. I thought the RC ver 2 would be a great replacement for the DOD as what could be better than 2 xotics in series? Well, not this! The Comp (Wampler Ego; another pedal I like alot) did not play well with the RC. The sound was muddy and lost all definition. The RC alone was OK, but not great. Found the effect of Gain 1 to be pretty darn subtle and really not much better than my old DOD gain pedal. Had to crank RC Gain 1 to full CW to hear much – a very different pedal from the AC which is super responsive. I also found the adjustment for the RC Gain 2 pot to be very awkward for a quick adjustment onstage as is occasionally necessary between songs. So, I was pretty bummed out as I love the AC and I use an Xotic EP booster for regular lead boosts. Just did not work out for me. Hard to decide if I would recommend the RC. Personally, I am very picky about effects, usually use only 2 at most at one time (e.g. Comp + AC; EQ + Delay, etc.) . So I think i would say that I do not recommend…but you may like it.BCY123
I'm surprised at how much I use this pedal. I bought it to boost the signal of passive basses and it does that and a lot more. The EQ points are right where you need them. And because you can preset those as well as the volume, when you switch to a passive bass in the middle of a live performance there is no time wasted fiddling with knobs trying to match the sound of your active bass. Also it's useful as a clean boost on active basses for those times when your hands are busy and you can't adjust your amp in the middle of a song. Just pre-set the pedal to a little boost and any time you need it, you've got it with a quick stomp of the foot. The third use I find for this pedal is with effects. You can use it to put a little boost before any overdrive/distortion pedal it will increase the gain. I love this because I like the sound of the Morning Glory pedal, but it doesn't get quite dirty enough. Most pedals that get as dirty as I want don't sound the way the Morning Glory does so this is perfect for me. And the other way it's useful is to add bottom end to distortion pedals (which are famous for not supporting the low end very well). Preset a little bass boost and when you stomp the overdrive/distortion pedal also click on the Xotic RC.PDGood

I love the sound of this pedal- but it has a bad foot switch or something. Every time I turn it on or off it makes a huge popping noise that could literally damage your speakers- I have to put my amp in standby before I turn it on or off. So, it's sort of useless- if the song has this effect all the way through it and I can get a chance to flip my amp into standby, turn it on, flip my amp back on- then I can use it. I use it in studio pretty often- but not live. I expected better form EHX- they're a huge, well-established company- but they use cheap, crappy foot switches. Even the EHX pedals I have that don't make this noise- the footswitch is really clanky and awkward- you have to make sure you push it down hard and feel that "click" under your foot. bought this after watching hundreds of video's. generally i'm not really a chorus fan. However was interested in the toggle switch option on this unit which seemed to be really useful in ambient soundscapes. I've had mine now for the better part of a year, countless rehearsals and a growing list of gigs. It does everything all the previous reviews have already documented. But I'll add something not yet mentioned… mine was producing very noticeably weird two tone sounds when I had it plugged into the power supply box on my pedalboard, I've heard they draw a lot of power so I instead routed with a Trutone 1 Spot AC adapter to the AC power strip also affixed to my board (see photo) and that seems to have resolved the problem. Hope this helps anyone having that same issue. I like this pedal a lot… it is a very useful tool to have, from practicing and learning songs, to rehearsals and gigs too.
Preface, I use this with an acoustic violin fitted with a BTS pickup (dual piezos/string), OR with a Greek steel stringed laouto to immediately change from standard tuning to a 5th lower (Cretan, Southern Aegean tuning). Pros – This is a mentality saver. You can be a fantastic musician, able to transpose well, yet regardless of the instrument you are using, and still get a little tripped up when you need to switch course and play in some oddball key. Voila! Drop! I learned about this pedal from a class A1 violin player from Greece (composer, lyricist and recording artist who has recorded with just about every big name- this person is no joke, message me for his name if interested). This person can transpose to any weird key you throw at him, why use it? His response? "Because when I'm on stage and I need to switch quickly to an odd key, I can simply hit the button and not have to think about it". So I gave it a try, and have been using it for 2 years now… it's a life saver. I'm just a fiddler, but this saves me from stressing out and I can play free and it sounds GREAT. It tracks so well I can't tell if there is any latency at all. Cons- With my current setup, I find that I need to either play in front of a monitor or near a speaker or use IEM's, as when playing through the pedal with an acoustic instrument, obviously you are going to hear the natural AND the modified sounds and you ARE going to think it sounds like garbage, then attempt to junk it. DONT DO IT! Unless your pedal is defective, your sound from the speakers is clean. This pedal is meant to be used with mainly electric instruments. During sound check, as loud as you can be, you'll still hear the acoustic sound of your instrument, yet once you are playing with the full band (depending on what your band consists of), it will eventually drown out the sound, and you'll be able to focus on your modified tone, but this is not consistent. Just be aware. If you can, I suggest using some sort of IEM system, wired or wireless, or a monitor. My next step is getting an electric violin body to use this tool even more effectively, but moreso in order to truly utilize my pickup. In a nutshell: Do it!pazarinyc
Sound: Unbelievable how well this pedal track's notes and cords with no noticable latency, IMO it sounds better than tuning down. Features: It's a tank ! Great little device. Different to a looper. Great for creating background washes of tonal color on-the-fly. If you got adept at it, you could use it to great effect in live performance. Personally, I use it to practice scales and arpeggios. Very effective and easy to use. I don't know how different or similar the electronics are, but it would be great to see this device combined with a looper. They're similar in concept. This is a great little pedal! Whether I need to sustain a note or chord while playing/riffing over the chord, and/or using it to hold a note in a live performance, this pedal can do it. It's a nice pedal it's like a sustain pedal for the piano but for the guitar. Really fun to use. Been using it on my gigs ever since I got it. Works great for ballads and intros. The only issue is the foot button makes a loud click. Seems that they would have put a silent one in over the loud clicking one. Also wondering why they couldn't have made it more like an actual pedal like a wah or volume pedal… I've never seen one for the guitar so I imagine it has something to do with capturing the sound. i wanted to compare this to my boss hm-2 pedal but i can't get to it at this time, so i'll have to do this by itself. this is a very nice distortion pedal. again the plastic casing is durable and inexpensive ,so you're getting a good pedal for the money.the level and distortion controls are sensitive- i consider a plus. i do wish there was more bass in the in the low frequency control. now you might be asking, "why don't i cut back on the high frequency control?". here's why : the high frequency control appears to be a combination high frequency/gain control! the more you turn it up, the more gain. combined with the sensitive dist/level controls this is a nice feature if you want that. i like it . i can always boost the bass on the amp/EQ/whatever. i like to use different dimensions of distortions and if you are like me ,i recommend this.thurstonnalley
I guess I'm more of a roady/studio guy than I am an artist, as I've always got more out of turning knobs then actually playing music lol. I bought this pedal for one reason and one sound only. The Swedish "chainsaw" guitar tone of the 90's that came out of Sunlight Studios that was popularized by bands like Entombed and Dismembered. I think it sounds incredibly good considering I bought it NEW for 25 bones plus shipping! The distortion is sometimes a bit over the top, but cleans up when you roll back the volume knobs on the guitar. I imagine you could really get some interesting tones going if you paired this pedal with a compressor and eq both before and after it in the signal chain (and with Behringer that's actually an affordable option), and of course, a tube amp, as most of the bands with that sound supposedly used Peavey 5150 tube heads. Very nasty distortion pedal, if you could travel back in time to the 90's you could probably sell this to a metal head for absolutely ridiculous amounts of money. If you are not buying this pedal for a certain "Swedish death metal" sound or just metal in general, I would not recommend this pedal, as there are probably much better pedals out there for what you need. Its made out of plastic which I personally don't mind, as I'm not a touring or gigging musician. If I stomped on it several times a night for half a year I dunno how that would work out. Not a big fan of the color, but then again, I didn't buy this pedal for aesthetic value. The addition of the Boss style adaptor plug was a very welcome modification. The indicator light is cool as well. Both were absent in earlier versions of this classic overdrive. I've owned all versions of this pedal, including the original grey and yellow pedals. This is a nice take on them and the lighter weight casing appears to be aluminum. The originals and later reissues used a cast material that was heavy and was a bit of overkill for such a simple circuit. This is a great alternative to those. The circuit has a tendency to be a little bassy especially as the gain is increased. It lends itself to single coil guitars very well(yngwie) but works great with humbucking pickups as well. One of my all time favorite over drives, and I own them all. Stacks well with other pedals. Everyone should try this one, it rips.Duke
I'm in an acoustic jam group and needed some extra punch for my vintage Guild D-40 so it didn't get swallowed up when taking solos. Running a Fisher soundhole pickup through a 25W Danelectro solid state amp just didn't do the trick, but adding this does. I set it very clean with the gain dial at its lowest setting and the level up, using the eq on the Danny to brighten up the highs. A very natural sound, not like through the mic, but good for my purposes. With the gain up a bit, the added sustain on the low end was a pleasant surprise. The LED light is so bright, I'll never forget and leave it on. My one complaint so far is the changing the battery involves unscrewing four screws and taking the back off — why not build it with a slide-open compartment? When I hooked it up to my Tele, it took a little tweaking to get the setting right, but it produces a nice gritty sound. For the price, I'm happySwampy
I have been playing guitar since 1979. I have owned this pedal at least (2) times in my life. Currently I am in a band using EMG loaded Strats and an EMG loaded LP Custom. I play through a "Made in England" JCM 2000 DSL 50 Amplifier. The "Classic" channel has a mode that will give you a 1970's Super Lead or JCM 800 tone. I have used Super Leads all my life until now. So the "Ultra" channel has the gain and sustain you would want for heavier riffs and definitely for guitar solo's. The "Classic" channel, much like my Super Leads, has a great rhythm tone but suffers from a lack of sustain for guitar solos. There's nothing worse than playing a guitar solo and having the vibrato notes fade out too quickly. So I decided a quality boost pedal would goose the front of the amp in "Classic" mode to increase sustain without changing the tone. I looked at Xotic EP Booster's, Xotic SL, MXR Echoplex, and the MXR micro amp. All were very good but I thought they were a little too expensive. When I saw the DOD 250 Overdrive/Pre Amp "on sale" I immediately placed my order. Now for more than half the price I have a pedal that has a level control to goose the front end of my Marshall and the added benefit of a Gain knob should I decide to add a little more Gain. The DOD 250 is a transparent OD/Boost pedal with big head room. You can tell it doesn't mess with your tone too much. So, if you are looking for a boost pedal like what I stated above, I strongly suggest checking out the DOD 250. Save money and get the boost you need and the added gain knob as an extra feature. 100% satisfied and I feel great about saving money. A win win pedal.

Ich schätze mich glücklich, schon Anfang Oktober ein Pedal erhalten zu haben, nachdem ich sofort eins kurzentschlossen bestellt hatte. Meins kommt aus England. Das Duke of Tone ist schon wirklich eine Klasse für sich. Ein Super Ton, wie man wohl lange gesucht hat, ist auf Anhieb da. Da kommt auch mein Vemuram Jan Ray nicht mehr mit. Ist natürlich alles absolut subjektiv. Ich bin jedenfalls begeistert, was den Ton betrifft. Die Bedienung ist, wie bei allen Mini-Pedalen z.T. etwas grenzwertig und frickelig. Das kann man aber hinnehmen.
YouTubes gibt es ja schon genug, sodass sich jeder informieren kann, wie das Ding klingt. Allerdings ist einzigartig, wie sich es anfühlt. Es gibt wohl kein anderes Pedal, welches so ein überzeugendes Amp-Gefühl erzeugt. Gain-Reserven gibt es nicht so viele, aber das muss auch nicht sein, dazu gibt’s andere Treter. Wer einen „always on Overdrive“ sucht und / oder viel mit dem Volume-Poti der Gitarre arbeitet, unbedingt antesten!

Having gone back and forth between digital / emulated effects and analog / practical effects, I decided to add a Small Clone to my pedalboard. If I had one complaint about the unit, it would be that it has a switch for two different depth settings instead of an adjustment pot. That said, when I plugged in I found that of the two settings available for depth there is one that suits me just fine. The pedal is very quiet, and does not color my tone in any way. True bypass is always an added benefit. Electro Harmonix builds these pedals to last, and I can’t see myself ever moving to another chorus pedal from this one. I’m in love. The Small Clone gives an awesome chorus effect to your sound! I always wanted that full warm grunge sound and so I figured why not put that icing on that cake and get the gear the legend himself used. As a solo acoustic finger style player, I was looking for a very subtle effect to enhance instrumental parts. I've owned other choruses in the past, and was skeptical at its rather large size and single control knob–and only a depth switch. I was pleasantly surprised. I run depth on high, the control knob on low, and get a nice fat–but subtle-melodic sound from my Martin. I haven't experimented with it much, since I'm so pleased with this setting. Good value, well made-though perhaps rather 20th century style–and USA made. Just what I wanted for a slightly different sound to bounce between my vocal parts and instrumental/lead parts. The foot switch is loud, but not enough to affect my performance. All in all, very pleased.2 birds

Overall: Finally got another Whammy V after missing my prior one in a "stupid-sell all-great new multi unit dumb idea". Not sure what to say about this pedal as it would seem of the many vids I have seen on it, I cast doubt if anyone really can understand how to use it without having one for a time. I constantly hear this "weeeeoooo" thing and really that might be of use now and then but what nails this pedal for me is the harmonizer mode section. 8va's and 4ths,5ths, utterly amazing. This is not so much a moving the pedal thing as everyone seems to want to do. Most of th etime mine is parked up or dwn for a specific harmony or maybe a sweep of low to high octave, play a version of Dazed and Confused using this and you may just never be the same. The lowered 5th harmonizer mode on this puppy is probably one of the best all time tones I have ever had the pleasure of playing. A harmonizer, with no set key or scale restriction, polyphonic tracking, true bypass, I'd pay more just for that. The DT model is cool but I am not really doing step tuning variants. Anyway, this pedal is sooooo much better than what you will hear being done on typical vids. Mastering this puppy will afford you a range of really cool tone possibilities nothing else can muster. Those who hate this pedal suffer from the terrible videos of it or the old models that glitch and burble from only being monophonic tracking. The buffer has been removed and this is improved poly tracking tech! Full bandwidth 1M ohm and out. Simply no comparison tech wise to the previous models.Whambam
I love how certain players use this pedal. Bucketed is the absolute master of the Digitech Whammy. I like Buckethead and got a whammy to try for myself. The only time I actually use it during performance as a ad-lib bit. The problem is that when its engaged it sucks the life out of your tone. Its like going from an all tube amp to using an iRig to play your guitar through your cell phones speakers. The effects are crazy awesome though. People that don't know gear that hear you play, bug out when they are trying to figure out how in the world you are getting those crazy sounds. The pedal needs recalibrate all the time. For no reason, even when you have the pedal on heel down, when you engage the unit the pitch will shift. The dive bomb effects are crazy for weird rumbling effects. All in all, typical of my experience with Digitech, they aren the best effects tonally. But if you want to go weeeee-ooohhhhh, weed-ohhhhhh a bunch for the fun of it, this is your pedalSpaceman Spiff
Bought this in a heartbeat to replace my Digitech Whammy IV, which is a fantastic pedal but lacks the sound quality and additional features of this latest version: the Whammy V. For the uninitiated: The Digitech Whammy is a versatile pitch-shifting, harmonizer, octave, drop-tune, and chorus pedal used extensively by at least one of your favorite pro guitarists: Johnny Greenwood, Tom Morello, Jack White, Matt Bellamy, Buckethead, and countless others. I use it not just to replicate parts of their songs–Johnny's +2-octave riff in "Just", the solo in "Like a Stone", the "bass" line in "Seven Nation Army"–but in plenty of my own songs, both live and in the studio. The construction is solid and designed for both touring and in-studio use–durable but not too heavy, big but not obnoxious. Next, the upgrades: This new Whammy comes with two huge improvements. The first is true-bypass switching. Previous models are well known for being tone-sucking beasts, and although there is still a noticeable change in your sound when this latest version is on, when it's off it's off. The other massive upgrade is polyphonic tracking while pitch-shifting, which means it can shift entire chords up or down without sounding glitchy or garbled (e.g., "My Iron Lung"). For people who like that glitchy Whammy IV sound and want the option to use it, there's now a Classic/Chords switch which lets you do just that. On the cosmetic side, Digitech renamed a few modes, reorganized the layout, and brought back the Whammy logo on the expression pedal. All of these upgrades are godsends for long-time users. Finally, the drawbacks: First, as always, there is no "intelligent" harmonizer setting, so you're still limited to choosing an interval–4th, 5th, 7th–and not a key–Bb, C#, E–for your harmonies. Also, this latest version keeps the MIDI jack but ditches the dry output, which is a bummer. The Mosaic pedal is easy to use, and produces a realistic 12 string effect. It comes with it's own power supply, and I recommend using it as it seems to use quite a lot of energy to produce the effect. When I first connected it in my chain, powered by the wimpy Snark power supply, it didn't really work. The light came on when I pressed the on/off button, but the effect wasn't happening. Then I used the power supply that came with it. Suddenly, out came the shimmering sound of an electric 12 string. In short, it might not sound like a Rickenbacker, but its close enough, and much less expensive. If you want the sound of a 12 string, but don't want to spend the money, this may be the perfect substitute.jonaha650
Overall: Ive been using my Roland Gr-55 (w/ GK-3) to add 12 string shimmer to my sound for years. This little box is amazing! Tracking is impeccable, and the controls are so simple I was up and running within seconds! The metal box is sturdily built, and COMES with a muscular 9v, 1.3amp power supply(?!?!) Switching is silent, and the effect tracks tonal changes between pickups well enough that once dialed in, I dont need to touch the tone knob. If I get insanely picky, I kinda wish there was a separate out for the 12string sound, but that would negatively affect the affordable price and kind of defeat the 1 pedal= 2 instrument simplicity. I have both a 6 string and 12 string Rickenbacker. I don't normally like to take my 12 string gigging because I've got enough other gear to haul around and the 12 string is only used on a few songs. Plus all the associated issues with tuning, string replacement, swapping guitars, etc. The Mosaic does a pretty credible job of making my six string sound like a 12 string. It does not produce a perfect reproduction, but I find it good enough that I'm using it regularly. Considering the technology needed to generate the 12 string sound from a six string instrument, I'm actually very impressed that it does a good a job as it does. And the fact that it is polyphonic is icing on the cake. I've used electronic harmonizers to try and duplicate a 12 string sound, but they always failed in two areas. You could not play chords and the high B and E strings sounded just awful because the harmonizer would try and play notes an octave above on those strings as well (usually rendering this approach useless).. I found that the Mosaic gives a pretty credible 12 string reproduction on the E, A, D, and G strings. Fortunately the upper B and E strings do not get the octave treatment. They remain with the original pitch, but they don't quite have the full tonal resonance of a true 12 string. It isn't bad, just not quite perfect. All in all, I feel its a good product, does a good enough job and I'm happy with the 12 string emulation. I think its a credible option to consider if you need a 12 string sound, but can't justify the cost and issues of owning a true 12 string.bgb92549

Overall: This is purely a review on the quality of the product itself not based on the sound. For the price I am beyond disappointed on the quality of this pedal. The knobs are gritty, and make a noise when you twist them. They are so tall that your toes will hit them every time you turn the pedal on and off. The on/off buttons feel fragile, they won’t last very long. One the most infuriating things about this pedals design is the expression switch. It’s a inch away from the on off switch and like with everything else on this pedal feels fragile and will most likely get stepped on and broken off. The box is grey and the labeling is light blue which makes reading the pedal harder than it should have to be. Over all I’m feeling stupid for spending $400 after tax on this pedal.Nick

I have two SL drives, one for grit and the other set for lead, as well as an exotic AC booster before to add a bit of boost. I run the EP booster at the end for nice volume boost. I chose the SL Drive from a huge amount of drives on the market as I wanted something that fit on a small pedalboard, could provide a Marshall style sound at all gain levels as an alternative to amp gain, and which could work well with the BB MB pre-amp also by Xotic. This pedal really delivers. Although it takes time to set up and find the best sounds for personal preference, it provides a variety of useful tones across the spectra of volume, gain, and equalisation. The design is just so thoughtful and I like the possibility of running it at 18v, although at the moment 9v is better to my ears. I've had the SL drive for awhile now and try as I might I can't find anything that can kick it off my board. I've tried numerous other amp in a box pedals(Marshall and otherwise),overdrives and distortions but I keep coming back to this little guy. I guess I keep trying because I find it hard to believe that a pedal this small and this inexpensive(relatively) can't be outdone. I use this in conjunction with a standard Tumnus and the 2 together just can't be beat for me and I'm done spending $ trying.mike smith

The coolest noise reduction effect on the market. Allows only one handle to achieve optimal noise reduction. The presence of the loop makes it even more versatile. The only minus is weight, but the pedal is so strong that you can only break it with a tank. The best noise reduction pedal for life in your pedal board. The pedal is 100% working out its price.

Upfront…..it's a Keeley …and that alone tells anyone who knows pedals that it will be well built , decent sound quality and affordable…..but they missed the boat on this one and I expect a version 2.0 soon enough….the reverb and the delay cannot be stacked , either way , they can only be played independently. This was a big mistake on the design engineers or Robert himself. The gain/overdrive side of this pedal is excellent!!! And unfortunately I am stacking this pedal with an Oceans 11 while using their spring or plate modes. I will be pretty peeved if and when version 2 is released and the stacking in series or parallel is now useable. Otherwise I give this a 3/5 where it could have been a 4.5/5 easily!!!!!…….sorry guys …had to be honest …but I won't buy version 2 unless you take BACK this original version and modify it correctly!!!Chaotic Embrace Inc
What an incredible pedal! This is the perfect grab and go for the working musician. A wonderful solid blues breaker style drive and choice of delay or reverb. I've had this pedal for about maybe 5 months, great pedal. The best thing to do is to always read your manual because this particular pedal shuts off. That feature is to save you battery power, or just being on too long when you walk away. I hadn't gotten use to that at first. It pays to read the manual to figure out how to do it. But the Selections in where the layout is for the different tones, for rock and roll, blues, heavy metal, and R&B is it great pedal.astringmusic
It' easy to blow an afternoon exploring the wide variety of sounds this pedal can produce. While many of the effects are great there are quite a few duds mixed in there. You just have to play. There doesn't seem to be that much logic as to how the effects are grouped. You really need to write down your favorites. Out of 100 effects I think almost anyone can find 20 that they really like. The Stomplab has some very good patches right out of the box better than most MultiFX units. I rarely get to say that. Since I like to try them all, I think it excels in areas that can outdo expensive pedals. The amps sound really realistic and have beefy snappy mids right in your face with great projection and pop. The tones are designed to sound good as you play with EQ settings the amps seem to stay in the zone of what you would expect an actual amp would do. The best way to really experience this is to plug into a Hi Fidelity home stereo etc. and listen to how detailed the mix is. There is a Tube Screamer that seems to actually enhance just about every amp you try it with when trying to get some edge. The clean amps are some of the best out of the box tube gain style sparkling U2 like rhythms with clearly defined picking separation. This is probably about as good as it gets for these type sounds. Very metal like ballading with chorus and delay. Def Leppard Bringing on the Heartache or Photagraph come off terrific. The crunch sounds are very realistic and the US Hi Gain is about as good as it gets for 80s Metal. I can compare this to the VT Plus series because I have it. This pedal sounds good and really excels with a Tube amp. The VT Plus is a tube hybrid and the 12ax7 single tube does add a touch of edge as it is cranked but the pedal is the same Engine and the edge is subtle and the Tube Screamer SIM sounds close. Any sound can be had and it records from the line out with very good definition. Most of the amp sims are very good with little tweaking and I think it has the most good amp Sims of any other multi fx unit. Has way more variables than the VT Plus amp series and it is one of my favorites for downright realistic amp sounds. Hard to believe it but, it stacks up well against the bigger floorboards in respect to tone alone. More controls on the bigger units sometimes can take you too far off base. It really is well designed and keeps you sounding good.

This pedal arrived with me last Friday, I was really keen to use it having seen the demos online, the following 2 days turned our to be the most frustrating of my life. I suspect the demo people are given a fully programmed device to portray a seeming ease of use. In reality after 2 days of struggling with sluggish and in some cases non responsive buttons and really poor tutorial, even with the help of online programmes, I was not able to store a single usable setting. Now it may be that I was supplied with a faulty unit or the pedal requires far more time and patience than I can throw at it. In a performance environment, utmost simplicity is key and I feel this unit is not that simple, or as I said earlier. could be defective. In either case it isn't for me and the end result is a return for refund or exchange for a different brand. If some-one could mail me in this regard as soon as possible I would be very grateful. kind regards Chris

The volume on mine does wonky things, starts out pretty good…then jumps loud…tried it in recording situation….good god no….sounds like a diesel truck… worth about 1/4 the cost….scott monthony

It has been really fun to try the different presets. The harmonies are very nice and clean. To my ear they sound great. I haven't played a gig with it yet….so we will see. There are some basic things that I wish i had known about the interface. Some fundamental orientation videos would be good. I had the most basic problem with not understanding that the buttons were so sensitive. It is almost comical! I would PRESS the button and nothing would happen! But i finally discovered just to TAP the button and everything worked fine. Seriously. Holding the button firmly down did nothing. Just tapping it though… .and it worked as it should. 🙂 Really weird to me! But overall, I think the guitar effects and voice are very good. i'll enjoy this thing I am sure.mhs9417

This is a very intuitive and great sounding unit with excellent reviews. feature-rich with plenty of effects as well as a 30 minute(!) looper and synthesizer. cosmetically it's in quite nice shape with home studio use only. after the latest firmware was installed, for some reason the backlight on the display will sometimes flicker. it's always legible and everything works like it should. maybe just a simple software bug, though as stated perfectly usable/readable at all times. original power included with a repair on the cord as shown. overall an excellent user piece.

Das Pedal nutze ich aktuell mit Anschluß an die Return Buchse eines Röhren Amps. Für die Inbetriebnahme habe ich zunächst die Studio Software auf dem Notebook installiert und danach zunächst die Firmware des Boards aktualisiert (völlig problemlos). Nach dem Einschalten überraschen zunächst die blinkenden LEDs, die Verwirrung hat sich bei mir aber sofort gelegt da man auf Anhieb auch ohne Bedienungsanleitung direkt einen Überblick über die wichtigsten Funktionen erhalten kann. Positiv für mich ist das sehr gut ablesbare TFT Display, lediglich die Beschriftungen auf dem darunter liegenden Effektblock sind für mich als Brillenträger etwas zu klein. Auch die sonstige Optik lässt im Hinblick auf dezente Farbgestaltung keine Beanstandung zu. Die Umschaltung der Presets über die Bänke mit je 4 Sounds pro Bank war bereits beim 2. Blick als gute Idee eingestuft. Die Navigation wird durch sinnvolle Eigengestaltung der Bänke enorm erleichtert. Klanglich stufe ich die normalen Effekte als sehr gehobenes Mittelfeld ein. Die Klangvielfalt "erschlägt" im ersten Moment (sooo viele Effekte brauche ich eigentlich gar nicht). Innerhalb weniger Minuten konnte ich bereits eigene Presets mit Amp Modelling und Effekten herstellen (intuitiv ohne Anleitung). Aufgrund fehlender Expertise kann ich den Sound schwer mit anderen Boards vergleichen. Jedenfalls klingen die Sounds sehr gut. Testweise habe ich ein eigenes Preset basierend auf einem Cleanen Mesa Mark IV erstellt und mit dem Klang des physischen Mesa Studio Caliber DC2 verglichen. Der Board Sound ist in der Default Einstellung vielleicht etwas transparenter im Klang es fehlt im direkten Vergleich jedoch etwas an tiefen Mitten und Bässen. Mit etwas Tweeking konnte dies sehr schnell mitigiert werden. Der physische Verstärker hat zusammengefasst deutlich mehr Druck und ein wenig bessere Ansprache. Betonen möchte ich dass durch den Synthie und das ToneCap Feature das Board einen enormen Zusatzwert generiert. Die Synthie Presets finde ich bereits sehr gut und der erste ToneCap einer Jazz Gitarre war ebenfalls erfolgreich (sehr einfach durchzuführen und das Resultat hat mich sehr positiv überrascht – einen Jazz-Sound mit einer Strat hinzubekommen war bisher nicht in meinem Ideenfeld). Zusammengefasst bin ich bisher sehr zufrieden.

Have still to explore all the tonal possibilities of this aptly-named dual distortion pedal but first impressions have been very positive. The unit is smaller and lighter than I expected but the two foot switches are well separated. With six controls for each channel plus shared 'hi' and 'lo' EQ there are plenty of tone-shaping options. The user manual helpfully suggests some settings to get you started. The internal noise gate has so far proved very effective left on the 'natural' setting. You can adjust the threshold to suit your guitar's output, but having used the pedal with guitars loaded with vintage, medium output and hot humbuckers, I've found no need to alter the default factory setting. If you're in the market for a versatile high-gain distortion pedal I would strongly recommend taking a look at this one.Christopher D.

Unglaublich, was aus dieser kleinen Box rauskommt, für meine Ohren ein perfektes Abbild eines Fender Deluxe bzw. einer Vielzahl deren Ausprägungen (Mods, Cabs, +Boost). Ich betreibe den Dream an einem Blueamps Junior EX (FRFR Stereo). Gut, anders als beim Iridium oder Boss IR200 ist hier kein Marshall oder Vox, aber dafür der Fender richtig. Ich kriege jedenfalls von Cleans über Crunch bis overdriven Leads alles zu meinem Gusto hin. Es ist jedenfalls sehr einfach einen guten Ton einzustellen (was bei z.B. bei IR200 m.E. viel aufwendiger ist). Reagiert sehr gut auf Effektpedale (auch digitale) und auf die Spieldynamik. Ich nehme auch keinerlei Latenz wahr. Die Kritikpunkte die man so in den online-Reviews liest kann ich bestätigen: kein Aux-in, keine balanced outputs, Preset-Steuerung nur über die Mobile-App, weder von Desktop noch über Midi… aber ein richtiger Deluxe Amp bietet das alles auch nicht, kommt nur mit einem Mod/Cab und kostet das vielfache. Ich bin jedenfalls rundum glücklich mit dem Gerät und kann's jedem empfehlen, der die Fender-Tones sucht.
Mich hat es förmlich von den Socken gehauen… Also ich haben in den letzten "Jahrzehnten" so ziemlich alles an Amp Modulation probiert, was auf den Markt kam, angefangen beim POD (Brrrr)… Aufgehört beim Helix & Co. ! Das einzige Teil, was mich wirklich überzeugen konnte, ist der Kemper. Allerdings bin ich da (mal abgesehen vom eingentlichen "Amp" und der Box), auch bei einem 19" Case und Gewicht und Kabel, usw…. aber okay, das ist jammern auf sehr hohem Niveau. Und dann kommt diese kleine Kiste – WHAT … Ich bin hin und weg – hab ich ein Zeitalter übersprungen – wo ist der Haken ? Antwort: Es gibt keinen ! Natürlich kann man jetzt viele Dinge anbringen wie der kann dies oder das nicht, der hat kein Midi oder Aux und der Kaffeemaschinenanschluß fehlt auch, außerdem ist er nicht aus purem Gold, usw…. Der Dream ist absolut genial – aus basta Amen, fertig aus. Ich habe noch nie eine so geilen Fender sound aus einer Tretmine gehört – absolut genial und wenn man etwas minimalistisch unterwegs ist, könnte man mit dem Ding alleine auf die Bühne gehen – ernsthaft ! Nach ein paar Wochen Test werde ich meinen Kemper verkaufen (mein ernst), ich hab mir mein kleinen Board schon umgebaut, so das der Dream darauf Platz hat und fertig, mehr brauche ich nicht. Das habe ich immer gesucht: Eine Amp-Simulation, die einen geilen Fender-Amp einigermaßen passabel über eine PA wiedergibt. Der Dream übertrifft meine Anforderungen bei weitem. Wenn einer noch mehr will, muss er auf das Original zurückgreifen… Perfekt ! Bei Bedienung nur 4 Sterne – ja okay, weil ich -wenn ich von der Preset Seite komme oder von "live" wie immer man auch möchte, im anderen Modus keine Ahnung habe wie die Regler stehen… das ist nicht schön, aber in der Konstellation nicht anders machbar – hatte ich früher auch schon mal, in der 19" Ära, aber ich weiß nicht mehr bei welchem Gerät. Völlig egal, wenn Du den Dream mal eingestellt hast, sind kaum mehr Anpassungen notwendig und somit…. Leute: Antesten und dann kaufen, weil nach dem Test gibt es keine andere Option!!!!

I needed a pedal to help me get my volume right at shows….Using the gtr volume control and or a volume pedal in front of my pedal board just changes the drive into the FX. I get everything nicely balanced in the studio or at home, and then each venue has odd sound characteristics and sometimes I am too loud in my rhythm and too soft in my leads & no time to get everything adjusted just right. So I wanted a simple master volume pedal after all the FX and before the amp…(did not want to hassle with more cables needed for the FX loop). I have tried them all…none worked well for me….Well, here is what I learned: This pedal has a min volume control which allows more accurate setting of the pedal to the volume I need mid-song. This control was key, allowed me to zero in on the volume easily as small changes in the pedal position did not produce huge changes in volume. The pedal does not cut the quality, at least not in noisy bars and restaurants. So it's very good. But the real point is after years of not doing the volume thing well with my right foot I discovered that I was much better at the task using my left foot…and I am right handed!! This has changed everything. Turns out, the issue was my right leg is way sturdier to stand on and control the volume with my left foot. If you have a problem with this type of thing, just try your other foot. The pedal and this simple foot change basically solved the issue. I am not perfect, but way better than before and I get better with each gig!!BC 123
Our keyboard player also plays steel guitar. We built a stand that integrates with the keyboard, so she can switch between keyboard and steel very quickly. We now own two of these volume controls. The first one is mounted to the effects pedal attached to our keyboard. The other is a spare. We use channel 1 for keyboard volume control and channel 2 for steel guitar volume control. It saves us from cluttering our board with two pedals. I wish we could run stereo keyboard, but we forgo that for practicality. We like the overall feel of the FV-500L Stereo Volume Pedal. The only drawback we can find is its size. It's about a foot long. But overall we like it.Uncle Ronnie
