Wasn't expecting more than a good D. I. Box. After using it at my band rehearsal it's now become essential. It has made my ashdown drive pedal obsolete, cleaned up the bottom end in my tone and the whole band. I use a Spector Legend 6 Bass. I'm In a band with two bassists, drums and vocals. We both Bi-amp. A bass amp and a guitar amp. Getting these to all work together can be a real headache… But this has improved things so much, that the other bassist has one now. Tone very comparable to an ampeg type- Growly, very tight and controllable bottom end, doesn't "fart out" on Max. Top end can be moved between airy and crunchy. Build quality It is plastic, but I have no worries. I'm sure if I stomped on the 1/4" Jack, it would damage, but I keep mine on the pedal board anyway. Value Beyond comparison. I can't think of a better spent 20. The sansamp it's cloning is at least 8 times more expensive. And although it's better in some areas, (metal casing etc), sound-wise there's little to choose between them. At this price, in the unlikely event it broke, I'd just buy another. I have recorded using this, and it has very little noise, But massive tone. If it sounds good in an amplifier, it really comes into its own recorded. Save yourself a couple of grandon an svt, and just use this. Yes, really. I would highly recommend this pedal/D.I.snailsetsnail
Obviously with Behringer you are likely trying to save some cash instead of getting something "name brand." When I would record DI bass guitar, I used to run it through a distortion or fuzz pedal to get a more natural sounding gain. The V-Tone pedal is very good in that regard. Turn the presence, drive, and blend knobs all the way up and adjust the EQ to your liking and you get a mean crunch while keeping the clack of loose strings. That is about the limit of this pedal's potential, at least for me. Any adjustment to those knobs to turn down the distortion results in a sound nearly identical with just a clean DI with no pedal or preamp at all. It's as if turning them up from 1 to 8 has no effect until you get them to 9 and 10. Another flaw I've found is the high gain settings bring along a high pitched whistle that occurs randomly during playing, though it seems to happen with a lot of string rattle from long, held notes. It doesn't stand out when it's mixed with drums and a wall of guitars, though. I've only used it as a DI for recording, never as a preamp or DI for a PA or anything like that, it's possible it could be really good for those. I am happy with it to record bass for my doom, black metal, and mathcore kind of music, but wouldn't go to it for anything else.Jacob
I recently purchased the guitar version (GDI21) and was quick to get this bass version soon after. I own a rack mount Tech21 Sansamp RBI unit which has been excellent for me thru the years live. Also, their V1 VT Bass pedal has been a mainstay for me in a live setting. This is a very good clone of the BDDI with potential issues if used in a live setting. These are: Cheezy and fragile On/Off foot switch, and Illegible knobs. I have no idea where the knobs are set at any given time. Aside from that, I like this as a desk top companion to my other tone shapers such as the MXR M80 and M81 Bass Preamps. Very convenient pedal that takes up very little space but does a whole lot. it has a quality preamp and di, so you can go straight to the board and leave the amp at home if you wish. you also get some key effects: chorus, octaver, fuzz/synth, boost, and tuner. for a lot of bass players, this maybe all they need. i bought it because i wanted a small set up for my gigs that i wasn't going to need a lot of effects for or need to drastically change my tone from song to song. it served its purpose well until i bought my helix. once i got that, i just had to bring it to all my gigs. so i haven't been using this pedal anymore and probably won't anytime soon, thus why i'm listing it. it still works great but does have a bit of cosmetic wear on it (as shown in the pics).

This is a great multi effects pedal/DI. Its all I need. Dont let its small size fool you. Its got some weight to it, so I assume its probably well built. All metal. Each effects sections knobs light up a different color. Tuner is accurate. I didnt give a full 5 stars because I wouldve liked a rate knob in the chorus section & maybe some more options in the compressor section. Overall, I recommend this pedal. Pleasantly surprised with the build & sound quality. I doubt Ill use the Dirty Q (envelope filter) much but its there if I need it. I bought this back In 2018, hoping to boost my output tones. I have a Roland electric kit that I run through our PA. The difference is night and day. I don't have to raise the drums main volume or the PA's input level as much to achieve the full sounding drum tones I met get. My bassist even bought one for his rig and has been extremely happy with his pedal as well. It's worth every penny. My only minor complaint is the placement of the AC power input. It's directly alongside the cable input. It's a little crowded there. Placing it top center on back side would be a better location especially if using it in a pedal board. Otherwise, I'd have given it 5 stars.
This pedal is alright. I use it sidechained into my compressor so I can't really comment on the tone. But it is pretty flimsy. I can see it eventually breaking in some way or another. I wish they had maybe used a metal casing instead of plastic. Also there should have been some detents put into the sliders. But for the price I guess I can't complain too much. Bought this equalizer as an experiment to use between my behringer mini mixer and powered monitors. Monitors have no tone control, just volume and sounded a bit harsh in the mid frequencies. Was able to dial in a nice warm tone using this equalizer. No noise. No rack mounted eq to haul around. It was a win win. Perfect for sweetening up a small PA system. Will also use at some point on guitar and electric piano. Although the case is plastic and not metal, the device seems fairly solidly constructed. Have been using with a 9v battery with no issues. I've been playing guitar for several decades, mostly acoustic. I purchased this several weeks ago to add tone shaping through the effects loop of an Orange Micro Dark at home. The equalizer has been great for this application. The 7 sliders provide a near infinite amount of adjustment, allowing you to experiment and fine tune your tone. In addition, it is extremely quiet. The pedal feels heavy enough, but is made of (seemingly tough) plastic. The sliders are effective but I'm not convinced of their ruggedness through live gigs. This is my first Behringer product so have no first hand experience with long term reliability. I am very happy with this equalizer and for the price wonder why I hadn't added it long ago – it really is much more effective than few tone control knobs.C-ville Brent
This is a nice EQ pedal. It worked just fine and was 100% functional when I bought it new. The pedal is relatively quiet when pushing the front end of my Carvin low-gain amp. In the front of my Marshall however it was a little too noisy. The EQ parameters were quite usable and did a nice job shaping my tone. The gain function was less usable, again because of the added noise (hiss). This noise was apparent using the battery or a 9v adapter. The quality of the pedal is fine, but its 100% made of plastic. I had no usability problems with it, but you should be aware that it is in fact all plastic. Overall its worth 4 stars because for $25 its a great deal. However I spent a little more on a used MXR 10-band w a 18 volt power supply that is much more quiet when pushing my Marshall. If you want some EQ shaping and don't want to drop a lot of money, this pedal is probably your best bet. You have to spend about four times as much (or more) to get higher quality, and you have to decide whether that higher quality is worth four times the price.derald75

I needed a pedal to help me get my volume right at shows….Using the gtr volume control and or a volume pedal in front of my pedal board just changes the drive into the FX. I get everything nicely balanced in the studio or at home, and then each venue has odd sound characteristics and sometimes I am too loud in my rhythm and too soft in my leads & no time to get everything adjusted just right. So I wanted a simple master volume pedal after all the FX and before the amp…(did not want to hassle with more cables needed for the FX loop). I have tried them all…none worked well for me….Well, here is what I learned: This pedal has a min volume control which allows more accurate setting of the pedal to the volume I need mid-song. This control was key, allowed me to zero in on the volume easily as small changes in the pedal position did not produce huge changes in volume. The pedal does not cut the quality, at least not in noisy bars and restaurants. So it's very good. But the real point is after years of not doing the volume thing well with my right foot I discovered that I was much better at the task using my left foot…and I am right handed!! This has changed everything. Turns out, the issue was my right leg is way sturdier to stand on and control the volume with my left foot. If you have a problem with this type of thing, just try your other foot. The pedal and this simple foot change basically solved the issue. I am not perfect, but way better than before and I get better with each gig!!BC 123
Our keyboard player also plays steel guitar. We built a stand that integrates with the keyboard, so she can switch between keyboard and steel very quickly. We now own two of these volume controls. The first one is mounted to the effects pedal attached to our keyboard. The other is a spare. We use channel 1 for keyboard volume control and channel 2 for steel guitar volume control. I appreciate that it could be my bass with no shielding but I have 4 other brands of pedal, all silent except 1 cheap OD pedal and even this has far less noise. So effectively pedal is unusable. I tried to use the Ampeg in all positions – bass direct, in effects loop and various paces in my chain but no difference. Definitely try/consider before you buy.William S.
I had been using the MXR bass DI+ as a preamp/eq setup for about 16 years. I loved that pedal and couldn't imagine my rig without it. It started showing it's age a few months ago so I broke down and bought this thing because well it's Ampeg and on SALE. This pedal was a game changer! It adds so much color to my sound and fattens it up at the same time. Love it.

This MXR covers all of the tones I need. I am playing a passive bass through a PA. I mainly need some boost and some color. This works great. I rarely use the distortion. The pedal really add to the bottom end. I reduces that hollow tone you can get playing live in an acoustical challenging room.
Whenever I turn on this pedal, distortion or not it sounds like someone just woke up a beehive, The actual clean sound is pretty good but when you really dig into the pups it starts to make that pop sound louder which is a big issue for me at least, (shouldn't be due to volume increase) when the distortion is on, there's even more buzz AND it's a very bad distortion. The distortion also doesn't have a wide range of sounds and is only really usable at minimum gain and the blend knob almost all the way back, just get an OD , and an EQ pedal, trust me.Undisclosed
I typically run a clean bass signal with no effects (except for a compressor pedal). I purchased this pedal because of the DI, Equalizer control, Distortion (as needed) and 9v operation. (1) The DI sounds pretty good and records clean. (2) The Equalizer control is a little too sensitive for my taste, but it does shape the sound as expected. I feel that a +/- 12db 4-band Equalizer would have been better with frequency bands of 80Hz, 360Hz, 800Hz and 5kHz. (3) The Distortion is pretty good and fits the bill when needed. Like most distortion pedals, it is slightly thin when "on". But this pedal can balance a clean (low) and distorted tone for a good balance. (4) The pedal operates on the same 9v supply/polarity that virtually all other pedals operate on (center negative). I find this convenient when operating all pedals on my Big Joe Lithium Power Supply. In summary I'm happy with my purchase and it resides in my set-up all of the time.SLoveland

This is a fine unit that has tremendous functionality and given some time and effort there is almost no tone that cannot be extracted from this unit. Unfortunately Line 6 goes out of their way to make it an unpleasant experience. Unless of course your willing to fork over more money for software that other companies would give you for free, or at least substantially less than Line 6 charges. You shouldn't have to shell out hundreds of dollars for a unit followed by hundreds more for some software to get the most out of it. For a nine year old effects floorboard, this is a great value for someone (like me) who wants several effects without spending $100-200 per pedal. Line 6 is generous with this one, Ive only had it two weeks and theres still plenty of sonic discoveries to be had. Cant compare it to Line 6s new units, but this one looks cool, sounds even better. Couldnt care less that it happens to be all modeling, I can plug a bass in, then in the blink of an eye pick up the guitar without unplugging from the bass amp and still get a huge stellar amp tone for ultimate chunder. This is a pretty good bag. The quality is excellent and it looks/feels like it will last quite a while. I bought this for my Line 6 Pod hd500x and it works "ok" for it. The bag could be a bit more snug so the Pod does not flop back and forth when you carry it. Length wise there is extra room and a spacer which allows you to carry some extra cables or a power strip, but I am talking about the snugness on the top and bottom. I may try adding an extra foam pad to see if this helps. I know this bag was not specifically made for the Pod so I can't fault it too much for not fitting 100%. I've got both the GT-1 and the GT-1B units and they are so different. I don't know why, but I find the bass unit much easier to use. The effects shapes that you want are so much easier to dial in. Maybe it's something to do with the distortion types that each unit tries to emulate – you get loads on the GT-1 and only a few on the GT-1B. And the amp emulations too – you get maybe 1/2 – 2/3 on the bass unit. What I would say is that it is well worth spending some time doing a deep-dive of the sounds you can get out of this unit. There's not much help here, you will have to grind to get the sound you want, but it probably will be there somewhere. The Boss Tone sounds lab will only get you so far and there really aren't any shortcuts that I've found to the sort of tone I want for any specific patch. It's worth spending the time noodling around with the unit and at least you can set up a load of blank presets by whatever category you want (I set up amp emulators in 10-set batches). Would I buy it again? Yep, absolutely. If you asked me that about the GT-1, I might not be so sure.Cat F.
The BOSS GT-1B is a really great piece of kit. Was obsessing with synth pedals but couldn't decide which one and then would require an expression pedal etc. The Boss SY-1 doesn't offer presets. I'm pleased with the GT-1B – many many possibilities for designing patches, built in expression pedal & 99 presets. Loads of PROS – Great value. The potential options for combining effects is vast. The build is great, knobs & buttons work easily. I dont use it as a standalone but combine with some analogue pedals, which is a good set up. Still saves plenty of space on pedalboard. CONS – you have to put some graft to get familiar with the software and best usage. There are instructions for the basic operation, using the buttons/dials on the unit but to get the full hang of the software for assigning parameters within patches, BOSS do not supply much info. There are some useful vids online though and chat on talkbass etc – Octave fx doesn't always track brilliantly. Is OK and perfectly usable, but not long sustain. – The Synth fx can be a bit OTT & erratic, if up too high. But great synth type sounds achieved with combining envelope, fuzz, octave, wave etc I haven't used any other effects processor so can't directly compare, but the unit has more than surpassed my main reasons for buying it. True to the many reviews I read online before purchasing, this preamp is very transparent, providing boost and EQ without adding its own color/flavor to the sound. Great for matching a passive instrument's output to that of an active one when switching between. So if boost and a bit of EQ are what you're looking for this may be the pedal for you. If on the other hand you're seeking a massive tonal change beyond boosting what's already there this one will probably leave you wanting.duneindy
I purchased this to compliment my Yamaha BB425x which, for a passive bass, has a hot output. The EQ parameters don't have a wide enough range to be very versatile. I found myself having to run at 3 o'clock just to get much of a difference and at full for a obvious difference. With an active bass I could compensate for that but, I bought it to compensate a bass, not the other way around. On the plus side it is very quiet, and like all MXR products well built.markm13
Perfect for when you want an onboard preamp for your passive jazz bass, but don't want to modify the bass. Really like the voicing of the sweepable miss, wider filter than a lot of eq, great for filling out jazz bass mids. The bass is perfect for adding definition to the lows, salt to taste with the treble. Transparent, low noise, good headroom. Build quality you'd expect from MXR. Distortion/overdrive/fuzz pedals are difficult to get right. There are different "flavors" of dirt, differing amounts available, and there's the issues around EQ coloration and loss of low end. The Aguilar Agro has a nice flavor (kind of retro tube instead of overly modern), a wide range of amount (from none to pretty fuzzy), but best of all what it does and does not do to your overall tone shape. I find that it does not lose my fundamental low frequency and it does not impose a baked-in EQ (such as a mid-scoop) for me to struggle against. It's just my bass, sounding just as it always does, but with a really nice crunch added to it. Simple. But hard to get right. Nice job, Aguilar.scottfeldstein

You can get a little more out of some of the filters with 6 or 8 controls. But for effective simplicity this pedal is fantastic. You can get a modest variety of albeit similar sounds, but nearly every setting is usable. This alone is more rare than it should be in pedals. The twin filter is incredibly well tuned. And generally easy and pleasurable to use. The only issue I have is with its price. I design audio electronics professionally and can guess at the cost to produce. And the main circuit they sadly chose to pot. Someone looking to "steal" this non-patentable design could still do so but it makes modification and repair near impossible. They should ditch the potting and set a lower price because they should be selling more of these very good pedals.Marty McFlurr

Build quality on this pedal is great, tone control is super. Paired up with a big muff bass pi and you've got a great sound. The crossover switch is a great addition but not one I use as I'm running a clean amp and a dirty one, so the more effects the better on the latter! Worth noting, there's no battery. This probably won't be a problem as if you are considering it you probably have a power bank or some other wired power already. I am very happy with this pedal. Looking forward to using it through the P.A. My mark bass mini CMD combo 12 sounds great . Very close to my real 64 Bassman. Thinking about adding a 15 inch speaker but probably not necessary. Being an old school bass player this really is great for the songs my band plays.
Easy to work with, has a great soundstage to it and to my ears sounds better than Radial DI and plug-ins. Does have a little ‘woofy’ sound to it that a little post eq cut ( in the box) would help. But a great product to get that vintage bass sound. My go to bass sound for recordings! Recommend!
In my opinion, as a bass player since 1967, and a luthier/tube amp tech since 1973 Simon Keats at Origin Effects designs the best sounding pedals (reproductions of vintage amps & compressors) and are the highest quality pedals on the planet. I bought both Bassrig versions which duplicate their respective amps ( the '64, a Fender blackface Showman and the Super Vintage, an Ampeg SVT) which reproduce very accurately these amps from the input to the output jack, and both even have a cab sim on the XLR output. I couldn't be happier with them. Yes, they're pretty expensive, but you always get what you pay for with Origin Effects.johnk

I was recommended this bass preamp almost 20 years ago. I've been through a TON of boutique equipment since then, trying to find 'my sound' and figured..what the heck, let me give this pedal a try. It makes EVERYTHING sound better! If you play on other peoples rigs from time to time, bring this!!! You'll be so much happier you did! You can find 'your sound' on almost any rig with this little guy. I'm a gear snob, I like 'my sound', which is clear, clean, and with a little bit of tube breakup while grinding in on my jazz. My sound is a cross between Flea and Marcus Miller. My boutique equipment gives me this on its own. When I'm forced to play a Behringer single 15" cab with no tweeter and no usable EQ because its the backline, the Sans Amp will be definitely utilized that night! Do yourself a favor and grab one of these pedals! Even if you keep it in you bag as a backup DI. It's like having a preamp and/or a DI at your disposal in case you needed to go straight to the house.DT

Here's why I love this thing. First, I prefer passive basses. Second, when gigging I need fast access to three basic tone signatures — a mid-boosted one for a balanced mix with the band, a bottom-heavy grindy one for heavy lifting, and a scooped one for funk and solos. Program those in, and good to go, with the option to tweak them a bit for conditions without permanently altering the setting. Third, after years of lugging heavy, bulky head units I now feed the Sansamp into a 1000W ultralite power amp and have all the headroom I need, without the pain. Fourth, whenever I meet a new sound man at gigs the first thing I hear is "Sweet, a Sansamp DI." Fifth, hand-built like a tank in NYC. I'm sure I can list more, but you get the idea. I've been using it for three years now and won't ever go back to onboard preamps, either on the bass or on the head unit.Casey Ess
