Bass Guitar Overdrive Pedals For Sale (2024 Update)

Honestly, the only complaint I have about this pedal is that instead of being constantly on or off, the light blinks, and that's just a personal quirk; it's not cause for a lost star. More importantly, the tone of the pedal is quite good. It preserves the natural warmness of tone already present in my Gretsch, and even adds a bit when tweaked. As well, the high, mid, and low controls are very effective in tweaking sound; each one makes a big difference, so definitely spend some time working with the levels. The range of gain is quite good. I can get a light overdrive from it all the way to a screaming distortion. I usually keep it between 10:00 and 11:00, and that allows me to play softly with a less noticeable drive, and play harder for a dirtier tone that stands out more. More expensive pedals may have more options, but for the price, this pedal is a steal. Seriously, the build quality is good; it's a metal chassis, and feels quite solid. The knobs do feel like a cheaper plastic, but I haven't have any breakage issues, and for the price, it's a nonissue (I mean seriously, even if I have to replace the knobs in the long run, it's still well worth it).rogue_danar

Overall: Over the years I have owned at least a dozen bass overdrive and distortion pedals and this one is the best hands down. It sounds like an Ampeg SVT cranked with lots of warm rich tube saturation without sounding muddy or losing your low end. I was surprised at how well this pedal emulates a high gain tube amp. just like with the real deal if you dial back the volume on your bass and the amount of overdrive dials back with it. The controls are simple and easy to use and give tons of control of your sound. The volume control works to boost or cut your volume without effecting the effect leval. The blend control let's you dial in some of your clean tone to help keep your low end full. I leave the gain cranked with just a little of my clean tone mixed in and it sounds amazing. As an added plus this pedal is dead silent even when switched on. In the past I always needed to use a noise gate for my distortion pedals but this pedal is so quiet I don't need one, which helps free up space on my pedal board.Timothy

Wasn't expecting more than a good D. I. Box. After using it at my band rehearsal it's now become essential. It has made my ashdown drive pedal obsolete, cleaned up the bottom end in my tone and the whole band. I use a Spector Legend 6 Bass. I'm In a band with two bassists, drums and vocals. We both Bi-amp. A bass amp and a guitar amp. Getting these to all work together can be a real headache… But this has improved things so much, that the other bassist has one now. Tone very comparable to an ampeg type- Growly, very tight and controllable bottom end, doesn't "fart out" on Max. Top end can be moved between airy and crunchy. Build quality It is plastic, but I have no worries. I'm sure if I stomped on the 1/4" Jack, it would damage, but I keep mine on the pedal board anyway. Value Beyond comparison. I can't think of a better spent 20. The sansamp it's cloning is at least 8 times more expensive. And although it's better in some areas, (metal casing etc), sound-wise there's little to choose between them. At this price, in the unlikely event it broke, I'd just buy another. I have recorded using this, and it has very little noise, But massive tone. If it sounds good in an amplifier, it really comes into its own recorded. Obviously with Behringer you are likely trying to save some cash instead of getting something "name brand." When I would record DI bass guitar, I used to run it through a distortion or fuzz pedal to get a more natural sounding gain. The V-Tone pedal is very good in that regard. Turn the presence, drive, and blend knobs all the way up and adjust the EQ to your liking and you get a mean crunch while keeping the clack of loose strings. That is about the limit of this pedal's potential, at least for me. Any adjustment to those knobs to turn down the distortion results in a sound nearly identical with just a clean DI with no pedal or preamp at all. It's as if turning them up from 1 to 8 has no effect until you get them to 9 and 10. Another flaw I've found is the high gain settings bring along a high pitched whistle that occurs randomly during playing, though it seems to happen with a lot of string rattle from long, held notes. It doesn't stand out when it's mixed with drums and a wall of guitars, though. I've only used it as a DI for recording, never as a preamp or DI for a PA or anything like that, it's possible it could be really good for those. I am happy with it to record bass for my doom, black metal, and mathcore kind of music, but wouldn't go to it for anything else.Jacob

I recently purchased the guitar version (GDI21) and was quick to get this bass version soon after. I own a rack mount Tech21 Sansamp RBI unit which has been excellent for me thru the years live. Also, their V1 VT Bass pedal has been a mainstay for me in a live setting. This is a very good clone of the BDDI with potential issues if used in a live setting. These are: Cheezy and fragile On/Off foot switch, and Illegible knobs. I have no idea where the knobs are set at any given time. Aside from that, I like this as a desk top companion to my other tone shapers such as the MXR M80 and M81 Bass Preamps. For little money, you can't lose in purchasing this for a home studio bass pre.Reed in CA

I normally play flamenco guitar and have a very good acoustic amp I use for flamenco. I acquired an electric guitar, and needed a vintage overdrive sound, but I didn't want to buy another guitar amplifier. This unit does exactly what I need, providing a good range of distortion from mild to heavy, transforming my acoustic amp into what sounds more like a vintage tube amp. My wife likes the sound of the acoustic amp and TO800 combo, which surprised me because she usually doesn't care much for the sound of electric guitars. I'm very happy with this unit. I would highly recommend purchasing a power supply with the TO800. I discovered it goes through batteries much faster than I had anticipated.Timothy

I got this pedal to use with a low gain amp at rehearsals. I didn't want to drag out my regular board or take it apart. I was looking for an inexpensive overdrive pedal. I saw this , read the reviews and said what the heck. I actually got the pedal for free as I had enough reward points. I regularly use a Boss Blues Driver which I have had for over ten years. I got the pedal and hooked it up and was pleasantly surprised. It is very comparable to my Blues Driver. It accepts both my Dunlop nine volt adapters and my One Spot power supplies. The case is metal. I may even incorporate it into my regular board for another degree of overdrive. If you are considering trying an OD pedal, you can't go wrong with this. I am a semi professional guitarist with over fifty years of playing experience. I use tube amps and mainly American Fender guitars. I know what I'm talking about. An OD pedal is not the same as a distortion pedal. The purpose of an OD is to push you're amp to a higher gain level than it may be capable of or to give you a little more guts when playing a lead without changing the settings on your amp. I mainly play blues, classic rock and country rock. I don't need the OD when playing through my Marshall.Doctor J

The Good: The sound of this thing is great for grimy, doom metal. It's easy to use, sounds great, and has a decent depth of customization. The Bad: You have to press in the hinges on the pedal itself as the battery is under the pedal. It was scratched up before I even got to play it because of this. There's no reason the manufacturer could not have just put a small door in the bottom of the unit like every other pedal I've ever used. Also, the first time I changed the battery, the negative wire pulled out of the connector. I've decided that since I already bought it and like the way it sounds, I'm going to jury-rig a battery connector outside the main body. It'll look like cr4p, but I'll be able to use it without damaging it further and won't have to spend extra for a 110v adapter. I had read about the difficulty changing the battery, but figured I'd give it a shot because it's got so low-priced. Had I gone to a brink and mortar store and seen it, I would not have purchased this unit. If someone already has an adapter they plan on using with it, by all means do so.Russ G

I'm really digging this pedal. For the last year or two, my setup has involved combining a Klon clone and an MI Audio Crunch Box clone to give myself a few different gain stages from almost perfectly clean up to raunchy roar. But the Crunch Box had way more gain than I needed for that kind of stacking. Turning the gain knob up on it at all almost instantly got me into raunchy roar territory. Not so with the Blues Crab. It definitely can get there and absolutely LOVES being pushed by my Klon. But it's also really happy to just add some simmer by itself with the gain set at noon and the volume down a touch on my guitar. That's exactly what i wanted. It does color my tone just a tiny bit, but in a really nice crisp way. It's not wooly or mid-humpy at all. I'm digging it!CaptPostMod

From slight dirt to full on creamy plexi distortion. It’s all there. Cleans up with the guitar volume knob. Pairs well with other exotic effects. I have two SL drives, one for grit and the other set for lead, as well as an exotic AC booster before to add a bit of boost. I run the EP booster at the end for nice volume boost. I chose the SL Drive from a huge amount of drives on the market as I wanted something that fit on a small pedalboard, could provide a Marshall style sound at all gain levels as an alternative to amp gain, and which could work well with the BB MB pre-amp also by Xotic. This pedal really delivers. Although it takes time to set up and find the best sounds for personal preference, it provides a variety of useful tones across the spectra of volume, gain, and equalisation. The design is just so thoughtful and I like the possibility of running it at 18v, although at the moment 9v is better to my ears. I've had the SL drive for awhile now and try as I might I can't find anything that can kick it off my board. I've tried numerous other amp in a box pedals(Marshall and otherwise),overdrives and distortions but I keep coming back to this little guy. I guess I keep trying because I find it hard to believe that a pedal this small and this inexpensive(relatively) can't be outdone. I use this in conjunction with a standard Tumnus and the 2 together just can't be beat for me and I'm done spending $ trying.mike smith

I get a variety of good, useable tones out of this one box. In fact, this has replaced the distortion patches I was using on my trusty DOD Bass 30 entirely. To say that I am happy with any stock stompbox is a big deal, because I have only a few left in my collection that I haven't modified the circuitry in to better suit me. This is one of the few originals, and that says volumes. I step on mine regularly, and haven't had any issues with it. I'm not a bass player, but I play one on my records. I've been playing lead guitar for 20 years, and I know good sounds. I say this to inform you that my credentials are in good order. You can get any sort of growl you want, thick or thin- and as much or little of the clean as you need to retain the punch at the same time. The only thing I would change is the color of the box… Since that has absolutely nothing to do with the sound it makes, I'm fine with it. Seriously, I was skeptical too when I saw the price. Don't let it, and the silly color fool you- Let your ears be the judge. Being a man with ears, fingers, and experience beyond my years, I highly recommend it to everyone.Shredprodigy

I got this a while back to add a some gain to play a bit of metal with a bit of overdrive on top as well as fattening the sound of the bass. Unfortunately this will never give you a "smooth" gain sound like having a guitar amp's gain around 2. Having gain down all the way shuts off all sound to the amp, and having it around 2/10 puts on a harsh brittle overdrive no matter the EQ. Sounds a little better with flatwound strings. This pedal goes all out or nothing. If a "Hysteria" sound is what you're going for, this will do it but not a true amp low/med-gain sound.Fear

great value; plenty volume on tap; treble and bass very usable; does color tone a bit but in a good thick way; less bass helps clear up the sound a bit. with small toggle switch in down pos perhaps a little more transparent and with toggle up adds a little more girth to the tone. flat response with vol around 1 o'clock, gain at 7 o'clock, bass at around 10 o'clock and treble around 3 o'clock (at least with my circuit…); gain begins to gets very "gainy" adding significant volume at around 10 o'clock and from will continue to increase to an extreme full tone slightly mid scooped distortion. not designed to be a big bumble bee crackly fuzz but like its label states an "overdrive" and will defiantly push your amp into breakup from mild to extreme.baycman

This pedal has gotta be one of the most underrated OD pedals out there…. especially given its price point. I have A,B'd this thing against modded BD-2s, modded OD-3's, and the SD-1W and the Mojomojo is just bigger and less tinty. I dont want it to be, but it is. It is a wonderful sounding OD and is great for OD rhythm sounds. It is in the cranked Marshall class of OD's so not to be confused with the green OD pedal. The only area that some of my modded ODs beat it in is sustain. It does tail off on lead stuff sooner than some more expensive pedals. That is the only area that it doesn't win though. You can also use this as an always on boost as well. All in all this thing always seems to knock more expensive pedals off my board time and time again. Highly recommend this pedal and at it's price point it should be in all OD aficionados collection.KL

Can't say much that hasn't been said already. What I can say after using this pedal for a year is that it is the best bigmuff out there. It's all about the tone wicker. To me it's like a vintage bigmuff switch. you flip it and holy dancing cows instant grit and velcro-like-texture fuzziness. you combo this with the right tube amp and Wallah! Siamese Dream tone. Cool thing is, costs much much less what you'd pay for a vintage (banged-unreliable-overpriced-oversized) V4-V5 bigmuff. Careful with the tonebypass, the thing is a 30db volume boost. good for saturated tubes I guess. in my opinion, it's as useless as it was 30 years ago in the V3 or V5 pedals. it does sement this version as a definitive throwback. both switches are there for a reason, EHX knew it, I know it and now you know it. (funny story: Musiciansfriend sensors the word MxUxFxF. cannot use it in the review or tags, yeah, it's a dirty woord to 'em. They did allow EHX to put it on the title though!)zaiten

very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren't the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus. the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can't really go wrong with the big muff pi. my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead.. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.phatjbp

It's just a different kind of pedal. To me, it feels "amp-like." It gives your amp a new character and sounds great running a TS into it, or an OCD as more of a clean boost. The other thing I like is that it sounds great at lower distortion levels. It's just a different color and feel under the fingers. At high gain, it roars! Very controllable, tho. In my set up, at least, the distortion is beastly but the noise and feedback is tame. The EQ is quite powerful, so knock yourself out tweaking.PedalMania

In regards to PMT’s service they’re 2nd to none! Speedy delivery, parts are always in good condition & well packaged. And with the limited products that I’ve ever had issues with theyre quick to mend & or replace the parts so can’t recommend them enough. In regards to the pedal itself it’s a strong distortion pedal with the added benefit of full EQ giving you the ability to create a range of sound. I've had this pedal for a year and a half. It does exactly what I was craving a distortion pedal to do. Pure sound quality. The distortion and output knobs give a good range of effects. If you turn up the output and drop the distortion, you get a rich, clean overdrive. Upping the distortion and dropping the output delivers that gritty, dirty distortion that you're likely after. And every combination in between produce satisfying variations. You can truly dial in your desired tone. One disclaimer: my pedal runs HOT. For example, if my distortion knob is at 2 o'clock, my output knob will need to be at 7 o'clock, or it's unbearably loud. When I switch to a different pedal after playing this pedal, the next pedal always seem quiet by comparison. But what can I say? This pedal is BA, and it delivers exactly what I wanted. And over time I've gotten a better handle on how to dial in the right amount of heat. I wholeheartedly recommend this pedal.Zaccoon

My oh my. What a rockin' stomp. I'll tell you a story… My wife bought me a Delta Labs "Rock Distortion" pedal for our 1st Anniversary. Totally sweet, right? Being that I already have a $2k+ half stack and an assortment of pedals, I decided I probably didn't need the pedal and returned it after trying it. In all fairness, it did sound pretty good. Very marshally. Deciding to then spend the money on some mic stands or some drum heads, I saw a bright orange MD-2 sitting in the case with a used sign in front of it. I had been curious about this pedal for awhile as some friends had recommended it to me (yah right, I got a Marshall and Mesa/Boogie, I don't need a dirt box!). I plugged it into the Frontman 112 at the store and was pleasantly surprised. It blew me away. Deep, thick. It sounded like I had a Marshall JCM2000 4×12 cranked low right in front of me. How'd they do it? I fiddled with the settings for about a half an hour, I couldn't quit playing through it. I tried it with an H/S/S strat, and while it shined on the humbucker, the singles sounded killer too. Knowing that my own personal want vs. need war was kicking in, I decided to skip the mic stands and the drum heads (needs) and buy the want (MD-2). I brought it home and plugged it into several different amplifiers – a Peavey Classic 30, a Peavey Rage 112, my Mesa Boogie halfstack, my Marshall, and my P.A. system. My results were varied. All of them sounded fair with the pedal in their own right. I found differences though. Through the Classic 30 the pedal sounded like a Boss distortion pedal. Nothing special. Lots of tweaking required and the bottom end sounded like mud so I had to tweak it to sound like a DS-1. Through the old Rage it sounded like a digital replication of a muffled distortion pedal. Through my half stack it was a little more convincing and huge but still sounded like an average Boss/Roland stomp box. Underwhelmed, I plugged the pedal into the P.A. hoping for the best (as this is where I would be using it most). There it was! It sounded as if I was playing my half stack at lower volumes. Your RESULTS WILL VARY with this pedal depending on what you feed it through. But considering that it sounds best through P.A. systems and small clean amps like the Frontman, I can consider it being my portible Rectifier for smaller gigs. OK, so it may not have the stage appeal the stacks do, but the sound is close – and even convincing to most. LISTEN UP! I always keep the BASS and GAIN boosts cranked and adjust the Distortion level to taste. This pedal will react to small knob changes and can do slight break-up while still retaining a Strat's pure tone. The GAIN boost is a warm boosted Overdrive circuit that makes the pedal sound more like a Mesa/Boogie and the Distortion knob is more of an artificial Marshall tone though it is best when it is at noon or lower. If you keep the GAIN BOOST on full at all times, you can get a warm break-up by keeping your Dist between 0 and 9 o'clock. Very versatile! I keep the Treble around 1 o'clock to keep the fizz at a minimum. I recommend it but make sure it works through your gear before you drop the lettuce on it. This pedal can be underwhelming or overwhelming – your results will vary!zippidydoo

I bought this product not expecting much. I've previously purchased a DS-1 and was fairly happy with it, but that pedal has virtually no bottom end. Seeing as I play sharp and clean with Danelectros and Strats, I not only needed a bit of bass with my guitar, but a bit of extra gain too. This pedal is exactly what I was looking for. This beauty manages to keep a very focused sound regardless of how much gain you have dialed in, yet maintains a very natural tone and a decent high end. I had previously heard that it sounded very digital, but I managed to get a great deal of tube-style break up along with some cold, near metal tones with a single coil guitar. This pedal is perfect for what I play (alternative and power pop, among many other genres) and I'd recommend this pedal to any guitarist looking for a distortion stomp box with some variation.broach1991

This pedal was made with low frequencies in mind; it sounds great when used with low tuned guitars or a bass guitar. Needs a mid boost beforehand to sound good at standard tuning.Timothy

I was looking for a boost pedal to drive an old Gibson GA-25 with a Strat. The Archer sounds above and beyond. It has plenty of volume to drive the amp and setting the gain between 10 and 2 and rolling off the treble smooths out the crunch while still maintaining it character. Used it with a Plexi 100 and a Twin Reverb as well as a Rickenbacker, Tele, and Les Paul with the same result. The Archer sounds fantastic and each amp and guitar sounds like that amp or guitar. Worked the same on other pedals. Used it to drive an OCD and it the perfect bump without having to use an amp with complicated switching. No noise from the pedal while toggling on or off. Treble knob is super useful to smooth out or add clarity. It was really easy to dial it in and there's a pretty wide sweet spot. It's super responsive to picking and fingering. I kinda want to buy another to have an Archer drive an Archer. Would that be weird?Nickname

The pedal is small and therefore pedalboard-friendly but is still built like a tank. The knobs and switch feel totally quality stuff, the chassis is rock-solid and good looking. This pedal can be used, just like a Klon Centaur, as a clean boost up to a mild unique sounding overdrive. It gives you plenty of volume and headroom (you generally have to keep the volume knob close to zero if you want to match the bypass volume) and the Gain control is very accurate and allows you to shape your tone just as you desire. It is a great blues or rock pedal and gives its best if put on top of a tube amp that's almost breaking up but you can still use it, as a regular drive pedal, in front of a clean amp and it's guaranteed to sound better than most of the amplifiers' internal gain stages. Not a cheap pedal, in line with its main competitors, but definitely worth the price. If you want a Klon-like quality pedal that really gives you the Klon feeling without destroying your wallet, the Archer is a perfect choice.reptile_breath

I used heavy fuzzes for many years, I decided a few years ago to switch to something different. Been switching between the germanium ocd and the Xotic BB preamp last few years. The Archer does what I was looking for. Sounds great with my guitar volume slightly turned down. I've never used one of those real klons. But I now can understand why everyone likes em. Put a good compression pedal in front of it and it will almost sing.Duane

This is the great Ibanez Tube Screamer at its most cost-saving incarnation. Do what you have to do, but I would recommend at least trying this thing out. It's a legend, and if you hate it, at least you will know. Better to at least have a frame of reference on the TS9 because things are going to get compared to it an awful lot.If you are looking for a Distortion/Booster, and you haven't developed a certain pickiness yet, this will be a great buy. The Distortion tone of the TS9 will make for a nice overdriven EL34 lead sound, when used on the clean channel. Also, if you do want to boost the dirty channel of a tube amp, this thing can do wonders. Slide the gain down to zero and max the volume. You will get a huge, loud tube overdrive. Why I like the TS9DX so much is that you can now dial in Four Levels of gain for this booster setting. You should be able to get some serious metal OD out of even the shyest tube amp. TS9+ being my favorite booster setting.If this thing has any drawbacks, it's that it's a little bit midrangey. Of course, that is the exact reason a lot of people prefer it. Also, I wouldn't call it flimsy by any means, but I can't quite give it a perfect score on quality. That's just based on comparison to EHX pedals, which are tanks. If you can't buy this pedal, try one out today. If you end up with a favorite overdrive elsewhere, at least you can compare it to a Tube Screamer, which most people are familiar with.srinivassa

I bought this one on a lark about 5 years ago, even though I already had all their others. This particular model can be a bit tricky to use. For one thing, each setting from Turbo to TS9, requires some tweaking of the other knobs when changing from one to the other, as volume levels change when switched. The payoff comes from the fact that there are truly about a dozen overdrive pedals in there — from an exact copy of the current-issue TS9 to something that is more akin to a booster pedal. I often use this pedal next to another Screamer, so the variety of overdrive sounds at my toe tips is enormous. I can not decide if I like the "Hot" or the "Plus" setting the best, these being the two middle choices of the four. Funny, but the one called "Plus" — marked "TS9+" — should actually be named "TS9 minus." I think of the "Turbo" setting as sort of a specialty rock, booster, or "old" rock setting. You have to play with this box a lot to really find your personal favorite sounds, but once you do, that's it. I should mention that the three other knobs function just like any other Screamer, so if you already know Screamers, you're half-way home already. Of the many, many overdrives I can use, the TS9DX has a couple of sounds that I simply can not copy with any other gadget, including my high-end pro modeling units. Weird, huh? This is my favorite OD in this price range.Anonymous

Well there good and bad with this one. I like it overall, decent buy i guess, not exactly what i wanted or expected. The TS9 setting is exactly that, sounds just like the stock reissue ts9. The + setting has more low end response and a little less gain while clearer-ish tone and more volume. the Hot setting is crunchy, with about the same amount of gain and still a little more bass response and a little more volume than +. The last setting has the most bass response and even a little less gain, thus a little clearer-ish tone and again a little more volume than HOT setting.I use the Plus (+) setting for a few reasons. I already have a stock TS9 (soon to be modded to 808 specs) second, the other settings have toooo much bass for my amp (fender deville) even with the bright switch on and bass down, too much. The tone is a little clearer and there is more volume than my ts9 so i use it as rhythm and boost with my ts9. With compression (MXR dyna) sounds great, great great tone, great great sustain, very happy with comp. Overall, good little pedal. Unless you want more bass response than a TS9 i would suggest getting a TS9 and get either an Analogman Mod or Keeley Mod depending on what kind of sound you want. If you want smooth overdrive, more gain, more vol., less mid hump; go with Analogman (silver or brown, silver is better) if you want crunchy/lots of gain, more volume, less mids; go with Keeley (Baked has lots of gain) Hope this helps.Anonymous

Overall: The pedal is not just a foundation OD that makes you sound like a SL or SB Marshall. I loved the demos by the company which showed those sound, and I chose the pedal, and in large part my new Princeton RI because of those demos. You can certainly do what the demos show you, and I am thrilled with it. But home playing demos , (I am not performing anymore) and sounds in the Catalinbread demos are just part of it. The controls on the guitar, pedal, and amp adjusted in so many possible ways means you can find a tiny amount of boost, mild but harder push, classic cleaner blues and rock tones all the way up to AC/DC crunch and lead sounds, or the highest drive levels of Allman Brothers’ most overdriven sounds. The master, and gain knobs control a wide range of each, so from subtle to raucous Page or Beck. I don’t know when but I am going to open it and try the super bass mode, but I imagine it sounds killer too. If you play it through a tube amp like a 15 watt at home, you can put the amp on 1 and hear your kickin’ sound very quiet, or lower, and not bother anyone. Or you can put it on 1, or 2 and get pretty darn loud for volume on one or two. If you have a sound in mind, you can’t put all the knobs at 5, and sound that way. For it to sound great in your ear, and at the volume you need, simply take a minute to adjust your pedal and guitar etc and I promise this pedal can do what you want, and if you set it to change with your volume on your guitar, you can also kick on a boost, run a fuzz into it, and it operates just as they intended as foundation. But it is so much more than a Marshall in a box. I see now I don’t need a different pedal for every song. With one this versatile and that sounds glorious I can get it all, except the numetal type stuff. But I am not into that. Love this pedal!J

Take my review with a bit of insight please as i am a pedal-holic and not just for the sake of having them but looking for that one that does it better than the last one. That being said , no pedal is perfect for any and every rig setup but will rather shine in the right chemistry of gear and player ability. So, the DLS (Dirty Little Secret) is a magic bullet for my rig giving me closer than before Marshall tones and feel from a pedal. It pairs very nicely with my Wampler Plexi Drive and i recommend these two together. Now my experience with this pedal is boosted by the fact my amp runs EL-34 tubes (a classic Marshall staple tube) and that i set the amp to a very clean setting as my clean tone – which happens to be mostly Marshall in its inherent voicing and circuit design. I prefer distortion from a box more than from the amp to gain a tighter more focused tone / feel … not a fan of heavy tube amp compression when pushing an amp hard. Add the fact that my cabinet is loaded with Celestion G12-30's and you can see why my experience is even better. So, if your rig has some Marshall basic ingredients already , this pedal should do wonders for you … the brilliant EQ section is done nicely on this pedal also. I think of this pedal as a wannabe Marshall helping out a wannabeMarshall rig … together combined to make a believer out of the listener.groovinist

Still getting to know this pedal and trying it in different orders on my pedal board but so far so good. I wouldn't normally shell out this kind of money for a pedal since there are so many good pedals out there for under a hundred but the demos on Youtube sounded so good I had to give it a try. I am so glad I did. I had been running a Visual Sound Open Road as my always on pedal and a VS Drivetrain as a boost with an Electro-Harmonix Big Mu**-tone wicker (with guitar volume rolled back) for added dynamics through a Peavey Delta Blues 115. The DLS sounds better by itself than my other three pedals do stacked. It has all the warm, blooming dynamics of the Big Mu** Pi but with a tighter and more defined bass. Chords sound full and articulate through the DLS and there seems to be a hint of voltage sag when the master is run up around the 10:00 position and you dig into the strings. I keep it on the super lead setting as the VS Open Road covers the low mid character of the super bass mode on the DLS. When I run the VS Drivetrain into the DLS I can get a good 70's – 80's era hard rock/metal tone. I run the Open Road pedal after the DLS for a fat, lead boost. I really couldn't be more pleased with this pedal and I wouldn't trade it and my Peavey DB for a vintage Marshall Bluesbreaker. If I had one small gripe it would be that the switches for the super bass/super lead modes and the presence switch are located inside the pedal and I hate having to open up a pedal to adjust things. However it isn't a big deal as I leave it on the SL mode all the time and I haven't felt the need to mess with the presence control.Stulanger

This pedal sounds great. I got it because I'm a huge fan of Sabbath and Iommis sound. This thing really cooks, but calling it a drive pedal is a bit misleading. This pedal won't clean up all the way and you will always have some fuzz or distortion. I don't mind but it would be nice if it had a clean drive included. This is basically a high gain fuzzy treble booster. You can get some really biting drive with the gain down, or full on fuzzbucket with gain up. The range and presence knobs put the treble into another stratosphere, and can also help this pedal to provide a really nice distortion to some other pedals. I tried it with a catalin echorec and an eathquaker afterneath and it sounded great. All in all fun pedal and the Sabbath riffs really just start pouring out when you plug in. They really captured the spirit of Tony Iommi's style.thegoodsoldier216

I bought this in June of 2015 and I love it for not only Sabbath tones but just a general overdrive pedal with or without a tubescreamer before it, boosting it. I like the gain low & the Range & Presence high! The Range control is where the magic is! Crank up the Range knob to get Tony Iommi to come out of this pedal & show you how it's done! He used a Dallas Rangemaster treble booster to get that fuzzy, pointy, almost uncontrollable loud and in your face tone that we've all tried to emulate forever! And this pedal has that treble booster circuit under the "Range" knob! It's so loud that I keep the pedal's volume knob around a quarter of the way up, and the volume knob is labeled VOL.4 ,how awesome is that? Use this pedal at your own risk!Dalton

I've had many OD pedals. Some good, some not so good. I purchased this pedal after reading a few reviews. Also knowing that Wampler pedals overall are excellent build and they pay attention to details. This pedal is no exception. It is very versatile but the things I like most are: It has great range of controls. My amp is dark to begin with but no issues in adding presence without sacrificing tone. I can feel the girth in the bottom end. It has plenty of drive on tap. Some overdrives are more of a one trick pony but, not this one. I highly recommend the Pantheon because you can find your own sound in here somewhere.Ken M Boston

Fantastic blues breaker/prince of tone style pedal. Very versatile with all the switching options Wampler give you. Can go from light breakup all the way to full rock. Built extremely well with a nice silent switch. Brian Wampler really knows how to do drive pedals brilliantly and this didn't disappoint. I was in love from the moment I strummed my first notes. However this is a lot of pedal with a while lot of different tones of the same nature. Very subtle most settings. Completely different voice with my strat than with my lp. I'm definitely a wampler fan now. The man is an overdrive wizard. Kind of expensive until you check the price of an analogna k.o.t. these days!Dwight
