My 12 year old son has discovered Van Halen, so naturally he wants to play like Eddie. This is his first pedal and he absolutely loves it. A must if you want to emulate the late great EVH.MrStacy

Fantastic quality. The tone is great and although I have other overdrive pedals like Boss, this one has immediately gone on my pedalboard. Love the noise gate button addition and the equalisers mean you can change the feel really easily. Also it’s a little smaller than expected which means it fits great on the board. Front centre! What you don't hear in the demo videos is NOISE, but life is full of compromise. Low budget? No place to open up 50 or 100 watts? It does have nice tone characteristics. I have 3 different to test drive. A Blackstar Stereo 20, Marshall MG10, Carvin SX50 – It definitely adds to the built in varity of the Blackstar; okay with the Carvin; sounds like crap with the Marshall. You can not "overdrive" the amps natural overdrive. You have to run it into a realitivly clean sound. The noise gate peters out the signal on sustained notes, which can be taxing. I have a Charvel So Cal, Fender Tele Player, and a Kramer Beretta: the effect of your guitar's sound is marginal. The difference is in your amp. The Bottom Line: I say, test a floor model, through different amps at the music store. If you like it, buy one USED from SamAshDirect… But if you want THAT EVH SOUND – buy an amp… And keep shredding!icor57-2

This overdrive pedal is used by many pros now in their pedal chain to layer gain stages and I fully understand why now. The noise gate is an excellent addition to my chain, smooth saturation and warm distortion to screaming high gains. Don't be afraid to turn the knobs really low, you will be much more impressed if you do and will likely have better results. This staged with a tube screamer, a TC micro boost and an MXR EQ pedal is a killer setup for stage or studio. Plug in and rock!Gypsy Bones

This is 'that sound.' First some quick background: I've played for over 20 years. I've played SEVERAL flanger pedals looking for the VH sound. I've owned SEVERAL Digitech processors (my mistake). Each processor had between 4 and 8 flangers 'built in' to it. NOTHING I'VE EVER PLAYED CAN HOLD A CANDLE TO THE EVH FLANGER! Seriously. Nothing has came close to this flanger. It's analog and it's great. The beauty of this pedal is, you can dial in your own settings and then simply press the EVH button to acquire the VH flange setting–allowing you to have 'your' setting and Eddie's. I have read from several sources that Eddie only used ONE setting on his flanger for all VH songs…and I believe that! While the EVH button works for Unchained, it also works for On Fire, Hear About it Later, Mean Street, The Seventh Seal, or really any VH song that a flanger was used. Ironically, the knob settings on the Amazon pic are EXACTLY the settings for the Van Halen flange, but without pressing the EVH button. –Trust me, I played with this for hours to figure out what the settings actually are. To my surprise, after having figured it out, they are on several pics of this pedal! Here are the exact VH settings: Manual: 10:00 Width: 10:00-11:00 Speed: 11:00 Regen: 5:00 (Max) I've had a DOD flanger (yeah, remember those?), I've tried Boss, and the countless Digitech flangers built in to my processors… You really need a MXR flanger to replicate that VH flange. However, this is a 'fan's only' type pedal. The regular MXR flanger (117 I think) will do this too, but without the VH button. This is a fantastic analog flanger that will allow you to create your own flange while being able to instantly switch to a VH flange with the press of a button. I've never used a better flanger than this, and HIGHLY recommend this pedal if you are looking for a great analog and/or VH flanger.eruption77

This Flanger hits the bulls-eye in all areas of quality, overall sound and value! The white EVH switch recalls the exact settings of the Van Halen classic "Unchained" perfectly. In fact, I think this product surpasses the original MXR Flanger from the 70's easily in noise reduction! Pair this with the EVH Phase 90(slow setting) and you're off into the stratosphere!*grace1*

I have been without a wah for a while, I am a fan of my EVH wolfgang special stealth & thought this would be an obvious choice. Well crafted, bullet proof! Great LED's in blue to identify on/off. Comes set very, Very low friction, however, if not a fan of that, it is adjustable with provided tools. Wow – Jim Dunlop and Eddie have done it again! I have played the Steve Vai, Dimebag Darrell, and Zakk Wylde Wahs – and this one is the sweetest of them all. What makes this wha different from a regular Crybaby is the custom "EVH" potentiometer (pot) and custom Fasel inductor. This wha has an extended range and is clear the whole way. No muddy tones at all. Sounds great played through a clean channel or with high distortion. A great example of how this pedal sounds is Eddie's "Poundcake" and "Top of The World" solos – that is exactly it. The quality of this pedal also stands out. Sure, you will pay a lot more for this version than a regular Crybaby, but there is a good reason why. The EVH Crybaby is extremely high quality and has a signature tone that you won't find in a regular pedal. In other words, you are getting for what you paid for. The pedal works as described it would be. Just like eddies holy grail wah wah. It no wonder he loves this pedal. I love it too. It has great response especially for my solos. Bogner is one of the best amplifier makers in the world. This is an excellent OD that can even get to distortion heavy enough for any rock band, perhaps metal, pending the player. Even with the gain a full, one can roll off the volume and have a nye on clean sound. I have had this for a few months and this is the closest way to get a Bogner, or at least a piece of one, still made in the same factory.Mike

The Bogner Blue mini is an excellent pedal for a lot of things, but I'm using it to open up my dark sounding tweed amp (Fender Custom Shop Twinolux). This pedal has a great mild tube breakup sound if you want it and the active EQ allows it to take over my amp in a good way to make my sound more "open" rather than compressed as with many tweed. If you want more gain, there are 3 settings. Want more bite in the EQ, there are 3 EQ settings. This has Bogner's signature refined tone and of course true-bypass. Top quality, will keep for a lifetime due to it's versatility and active EQ.AustinCM

This little green gem has been a great addition to my pedalboard, filling in for potential gaps for various modulation pedals I dont have or occasionally swap out. The Series/Parallel button is a great option: Series using pure effected signal, while Parallel blending dry signal to the effected signal, too. This is especially useful for the vibrato effect; Set it to its slowest speed and minimal sweep and it creates and clean doubler. This also makes the phaser sound less intense. The chorus and flangers are really useful. The rotary effect isnt particularly accurate, but it does make for a good alternative flanger or vibrato effect. Ive always wanted to experiment with Ring Modulation, and this has a lot of control with parameters especially interesting when combined with OD sounds. The Tremolo effect is Mooers simple sine wave option from their Triangolo Trem pedal. Stutter is a square wave tremolo option. The AutoWah effect is a modulated Wah filter. Setting it slow provides a unique sweep character, made more subtle by running it in Parallel. Low Bit tweaked correctly will create a low-fi synth character similar to an old video game. Liquid set to medium-slow sounds similar to an old synth effect that randomly steps through filters (kind of like ELPs Karn Evil9, 1st Impression). The pedal cleverly incorporates two features in the foot switch: it acts as a tap temp, AND when holding it down, it gradually accelerates any selected effects modulation rate, while releasing it gradually returns it to its original modulation tempo (using Tremolo, its like Radioheads Bones when they manually turned the rate knob). Are these the best examples of these effects? No. Are the knobs tiny? Yes. Is it hard to read the yellow lettering? Yes, but I have the options memorized. Most importantly, when I have no room on my board for these effects, its nice to be able to still have access to something thatll work and also have fun with.alonzomachine

Very useful pedal to emulate a realistic range of classic organ sounds. I've used both a Tele and a keyboard as inputs and both work fine to produce the B9 sounds. There's no delay on the signal and the response is immediate. The guitar works best when the bridge pickup is used. Changing between the 9 presets has to be done manually via a rotary switch so I will mount the unit on a short stand rather than on the floor then I can also hit the on/off with my hand. Bought this together with the C9 which gives a different range of sounds. Best new price was from GAK. Useful where a keyboard/organist is not available or as part of a solo setup.Dick p.

Utterly staggering! My band has advertised for a keyboard player for a long time and we've found absolutely no one capable of meeting our needs. The B9 has completely transformed our sound. Such songs as A Whiter Shade of Pale, I'll Put a Spell on You, Gimme Some Loving and many more sixties songs that require the keyboard sound are now easily played on guitar with amazing authenticity. My one criticism is that the 9 volt transformer lead is very flimsy and the plug insufficiently robust for hard gigging wear where reliability is essential, so a more robust power source would be an improvement. I'll find a way round that though. Although Electroharmonix also do a C9 and also a Key9, for piano-type sounds, it's a pity they haven't captured the harpsichord sound for a song like For Your Love. I'm sure it will happen, though. A superb product!John D.

I've owned and used both the EarthQuaker Devices Organizer Polyphonic Organ Emulator Guitar Effects Pedal and the Electro-Harmonix B9 Organ Machine Guitar Effects Pedal. I like both pedals. Each has pros and cons. Electro Harmonix's B9 pedal has two big pros: a greater overall variety of sounds (presets) and much more volume on tap to get the organ sound to be as loud or louder in output than the guitar sound. You can dial the B9 in just to get the organ sound with no guitar in the mix, and without using any kind of volume boost to make the organ sound as loud in the overall band mix as your guitar did before switching tones. The con is, while all of the B9's organ/key sounds are very, very good, it's hard to individually sculpt any one of the tones. You find the one you like best and go with it, and there are 9 different ones to choose from. You also can then dial in some modulation and/or the sound of the organ's keys to the sound. With the Earthquaker Devices Oganizer, there's really just one organ tone, but you can sculpt that sound more. You can add in a lower octave, a higher octave, and some chorus to the sound to get a really consistent and full effect. The Organizer has a much smaller footprint with top mounted jacks for the guitar cables, so it takes up about half as much space on your pedalboard. This may seem like an irrelevant detail, but on a pedal board as crowded as mine, I really like the smaller size of the Organizer. The Organizer's big con (and the reason I kept with the B9) is the Organizer works better to just add organ tone to the guitar tone. Getting just an organ tone alone (mixing the guitar out completely) requires a substantial volume drop. You can make up for the volume drop with boost pedals and other tweaks, but it's more of a challenge. Conversely, the B9, while it's easy to get "organ tone only," also easily allows you to dial guitar tone back in. Bottom line: I'd recommend either. The Organizer will be cheaper (and much easier to find used for even cheaper still) than the B9. If you want an organ sound blended in with your guitar tone, and lots of control over that tone the Organizer is definitely the way to go. If you want to have a straight organ sound, completely subbing the organ sound for the guitar tone, the B9 is the way to go.AlterIan

I purchased this product a couple of years back to increase my soloing volume to help cut through the mix of my band. It did this very well but it also added a little distortion while doing so. I was running this through the front of my amp ( Marshall TSL 100) and causing it to break up prematurely. After a lot of different combinations on my pedalboard I finally achieved what I had been after. I split the signal on my effects and sent the overdrive and the distortion into the front of the amp and LPB-1 with my time based effects through the effects loop. Wow!!! I keep the LPB-1 on at all times set at a lower volume (about 10 o'clock). This fattened and tightened up everything on my amps without any effects. The result is a full rich sound on any channel. Now I use my overdrive pedal as a boost and have learned how to properly use the volume control on my guitars. My time based effects line is made up of 1) Noise suppressor, 2) Tremolo, 3) Phaser, 4) Vibrato, 5) Flanger, 6) LPB-1, 7) Lexicon MX 200 for delay and reverb. My distortion, overdrive, compressor and wah go to the front of the amp. I also play this setup on a Fender Hot Rod Deluxe for the smaller venues and and it is just as impressive. My amps have come alive my tone is phenomenal. The best money I have ever spent. No problem cutting through the mix! Be patient, experiment and find the combination that works for you. When it comes to gear, stompboxes included, sometimes simpler is better. It doesn't get much simpler than the LPB-1. Yet, even with just one knob, this pedal is extremely versatile. If you need a clean boost for solos or parts that need to cut through the mix, this little box will do it. You can also use it to overdrive a tube amp to create a meaty, saturated tone that is more responsive and natural sounding than using a distortion pedal. Or, use it after a good sounding overdrive pedal for added depth, harmonic texture and sustain. My favorite use for this pedal is to set the LPB-1's volume at around 1- 2 O'Clock and kick it on over an already moderately overdriven tube amp (like, for example, my Marshall JMP 50). That way I can go from a nice grindy rhythm tone to a fat, throaty lead tone for solos. Compared to the equally awesome MXR Micro Amp, I hear more of a midrange emphasis when the LPB-1 is engaged. Even at cleaner settings, there is some added midrange coloration there that fattens up the tone a bit. I happen to dig it. However, if you are looking for something a bit more neutral sounding, you might want to go with the MXR or another brand. One non tone-related advantage the Micro Amp has over the LPB-1 is that its metal case is much heavier and, therefore, is less likely to move around on stage. Obviously, this is a non-issue if you have one securely attached to your pedalboard. Finally, I had a hard time believing that a pedal priced this low (and made in the USA, no less) could actually be true-bypass. However, once I took off the bottom plate and saw the 3PDT foot switch inside, I was happily able to confirm it is! Every guitarist should own one of these little gems!Tubehed

What is there to say? It's the LPB1, the pedal that put EHX on the map. I use two, one to boost, and the second to cascade into the first for a sweet sounding overdrive in a "Pre-opamp" rig. One caveat, it claims to be transparent…it is NOT. The LPB1 has a pronounced low/mid bump.Doc Stormcrow

I got a great deal on my copy on ebay and love it for that fact. I have been an RockBand fanatic from the get-go and actually bought Guitar Hero: World Tour with very dissappointing results. However, THIS game was something I really wanted to have. With the RockBand / GH cross compatibility with equipment, made this purchase an easy one and something that was cheap enough not to require an entire switchover to a whole other game franchise and their gear. I had been initially worried since this game had been given away as a 'promotional copy' for free along with advance purchases of GH5. So I had always been eyeing auctions to find a copy for about half the cost of the GH5 purchase price (assuming the person wasn't a VH fan). I knew that I was going to try and spend around $30. I ended up winning a full copy and can verify that there is no difference, other than a lack of case and booklet in the promo version. Like many reviewers have mentioned, the game lacks a few things, like even using 'younger' versions of the VH members and the exclusion of some select songs. But all in all, I have to admit, for the master tracks and the ability to play along with some of what I consider the absolute classics of VH, it is well worth the price of admission. I love drumming 'Jump' and 'Ice Cream Man' is pretty sweet… I certainly wouldn't reccommend running out and buying a full copy of it off the shelves, for like $60-70, but securing a copy for under $30, regardless of whether it is a promo version or not, will not affect your enjoyment of the game. One word of advice I might throw out though is if you ARE a GH fan and own most fo the game. Do make sure you ask the seller if they've used the import code or not, if you plan on merging this VH library into your existing main game (GH5? GHWT?) Only because, most might've done this and are dumping the game for cheap, forcing you to play this as a stand-alone. I didn't care either way, as this is the only GH game I own or will play. But if it were an RB game, I'd want to import it for sure. Something to keep in mind! Rock on! Akamikazei

Don't waste you money on the PS2 version, it is a piece of junk! Bought this game brand new and it keeps freezing up. I can play a few songs in quickplay mode, but after a few songs it freezes up when trying to load another song. I could not play career mode because it freezes up when trying to load it. Activision(the maker of the game) claims that my PS2 is in need of repair, but I don't have any problems playing any of my other hundred games. Also, if you check out the reviews of this game on Walmart.com you will see that many others have had the same problem I've had! Their PS2s work fine except for when trying to play this game. Activision is just like all the other big companies – let's blame someone else so we make a profit on a piece of junk. Don't waste your time or your money on the PS2 version!!!!!!!!!!!!!!bolts89

There is a reason why Activision was giving this game away for free for people who bought Guitar Hero 5. It's not a good game! First of all, it's missing two vital people who at one time were in Van Halen, namely Sammy Hagar and Michael Anthony. The fact that they aren't even mentioned in the game is a slap in the face to them. Instead Eddie's 16 year old son, Wolfgang, takes over on bass guitar, even when you progress in the game and play as the classic Van Halen with Dave's long hair and Eddie's flowing locks as well. And then you look over and there's Wolfie who evidentally discovered time travel and went back to play with them. I guess Michael was sick that night. Another is that you can only create one band at a time in career mode, that's right, ONE band. Not two, not four like you could in Guitar Hero 5. And one more flaw is the choices in songs. I think I could have done without "Stacy's Mom" and another song that sounds weird to be included with Guitar Hero Van Halen. And can someone explain to me why I have to play the keyboards to "Jump" on the guitar?dodgerman5150

I preordered this on AMS without, obviously, trying it out. I had only seen some clips from NAMM, etc. I wanted a ‘noisemaker’ more than anything…a little secret weapon with another flavor on my board. It’s a lot of fun so far. It mentions that it’s not intended for chords like several times in the manual. But honestly, that’s where it gets cool & weird. Like, seriously science fiction stuff. Try it with an expression pedal! I have one for my EQD Avalanche Run so I tried it out on the Mono Synth for kicks and it opened up a whole new level. This pedal is not for everyone but it’s definitely worth checking out.suede

An excellent pedal. Cool synth sounds with a reasonable amount of variation for each. Not perfect. Being monophonic, some of the sounds require you to be very deliberate when playing as even a slight slurring of notes can cause the pedal to have a little mental breakdown. Overall excellent. I suppose for a specific type of sound for someone this could suffice. I have other options and have used other inexpensive distortion units for decades. Just lacks Sonic character, dynamics and didn't add anything positive to my sound. I DO really like their volume/wah mini pedal…they are all well-made and terrific. The Sonicake Shark is a versatile, meaty, mini distortion pedal that punches way above its price! It is built like a tank. It has a nice thick rubber pad on the bottom and comes with a form cut piece of Velcro for mounting to a pedal board. Perfect for rock or metal.drew-bo

I'm a studio engineer and have 7 different chorus pedals most name brand and are expensive but for the price.., this pedal cannot be beaten. Put this together with a couple of other pedals and you will never look back. Lush Setting is absolutely killer. Good quality construction and noise free. I really wanted and expected to like this pedal, given Bogner's great amps and this high price tag. I was so disappointed. The distortion tone is good, but nothing very special. What really turned me off was the way the dynamics are totally squashed. I have played less expensive pedals by Wampler, Fulltone, Hermida, etc. that have gorgeous tone and are much more responsive to picking dynamics. I used it on a couple of gigs and found that this is not a pedal that cuts through a live mix very well. That's probably why they had to build in that fancy boost footswitch with the variable gain and output – you will need the volume boost if you want your solos to be heard at all. Also, the YouTube demos are somewhat misleading about the amount of boost adjustment – you can only add a little bit of gain and/or output volume. I ended up returning this pedal and trying the Wampler Pinnacle, which I find much more impressive.FinalGuitarist

Tone wise, it sounds like a boutique Marshall or Soldano. Really great sound. Incredibly tube-like tone and response. I would be hard-pressed to tell the difference between this and a tube head at anything other than concert decibels. Great sound at bedroom practice levels, but it still gets LOUD if you crank the volume. Utterly perfect for anything ranging from rock to modern metal. No doubt it can do blues too. It even stacks great with traditional Tubescreamer style overdrives. Again, very tube-like response when you boost it for metal. Great response on the EQ. Scooped sounds really decent, but dialing in a "frown" gets really creamy.J

Comparing the Bogner Red Ecstacy to the Pinnacle is misleading. Which Pinnacle version? I've owned them both in various release configurations (with or without the boost) and found the Pinnacle to be one trick pony. Why buy a Bogner pedal (which never mentions EVH) if looking for the "brown sound"? The Pinnacle or the Mad Professor should have looked at first. And yes, the stripped down Pinnacle is still the same cost as the Brown. If you add the boost to the Pinnacle, you're gonna pay more still. A lot of pesos to cover one guy LOL. I've watched the PGS clip and I really like what I hear. I can't wait until mine comes next week. I currently own a C. Martin Plexitone, an AMT O2 Orange dist/preamp and a Plextortion so I'm not biased against Wampler products. My Micro Terror and Traynor 12" cab prove very flexible with the pedals I have. With the addition of the Ecstacy, I feel I have my bases covered for my set list. I don't need a Mesa pedal although I love 'em 'cause I don't play death or thrash. Bogner is awesome.TempleTantrum
