I love this product. It saves a lot of time and it gives you a professional looking job by winding the strings evenly. Some of the other reviewers complained about it winding the strings too tightly and breaking them. Obviously you don't use this product for the final tuning. Just snug them up and then turn the tuning machines by hand to do that. It winds fairly fast but not to the point that you can't release the trigger before it snaps the string. As far as battery use, I've only used it one time. So I couldn't say how long the batteries will last. I've threatened to replace my manual string winder for a couple of years and finally did it. I have five guitars and baby sit a friend's 12 string and I hate dead strings on a guitar. I got this and changed strings on 3 guitars in about 20 minutes. The next day I did my electric in about ten minutes. Here's my only complaint: The latch on the battery compartment is flimsy and keeps popping open. I scotch taped it so I could get on with my work without this irritation. This winder does what it's supposed to do, sort of. It unwinds and rewinds the strings as I'd hoped for…….however unlike what it's described… It was stated on the web page and on the factory packing box as going "UP TO" 200 RPM. However, it runs ONLY at 200 rpm. No way to make it run any slower, like a variable speed, electric screwdriver. To me, "UP TO" means "including means EVERYTHING up to and including 200 RPM. This is not the end of the world, but it is misleading. Having Parkinson's Disease, I realize that I have special needs that others are not affected by, so I don't expect things to be custom made just for me, but a bit more "Truth In Advertising" would have been appreciated. I have owned a few of these. They are inexpensive, do what they are supposed to, and are handy to have around but… a few of them have an issue with the screw falling off after minimal use. I have tried tightening the screw back on, but it only falls off again shortly. For example, I just opened a new one, started winding strings and the screw fell off while changing the third of six string. I then opened another new package: that one held up for the remaining strings, and changing all 6 strings of another guitar. I recommend better quality control!ecsongs

Works great! No problem on both the large, thin tuning knobs, and the smaller, thicker ones. Much better than their guitar winder worked on my basses. The only grumble I can think of is that it gets squeaky when in the middle of winding each string. No problem- even sort of an enjoyable funny sounding squeak, if you are at home. Overall this is a really good product for un-stringing and restringing a bass. The cutter snips the wire quick and clean with little effort, and the winder speeds up the process. the only draw back is depending on the size of your tuning keys it is a bit wobbly so you have to pay attention and move slower then you may initially want to to keep from banging it against other tuning keys or the head stock itself, thus would be nice if it had something to give a bit more grip on the key that reduced the wobble.More Bass

I really like this tool. It's rubber coated so it can't scratch your headstock, and not so big that an adjacent tuning peg will interfere with it. I paired this tool up with a black & decker cordless screw driver from walmart ( on-line only ) the turns at 120 rpm ( others turn at 200 rpm ) and it is an absolutely perfect combination. I've been using these string winders since they came with the name Scotty's on them. Their virtually identical in every way except for the plastic colors and name. They work great and their very affordable. There's no reason why a guitar player can't have several of these around. I occasionally give one out to new guitar player's who are just starting to take lessons. I keep at least two in my guitar tool box and one in every case. I never had one break but I did get one where the handle didn't want to swivel. A little spray lube cured that. I highly recommend this product to all guitar players. Restringing or replacing a guitar string can be somewhat time consuming and even frustrating. This all-in-one restringing tool has a sniper, bridge pin puller, and fast crank winder to make things go easier… and is compact enough to keep in your pocket. It eliminates the need for at least two other large tools. The "grip" appears awkward but in fact is quite comfortable and allows one to effortlessly spool up the strings. I rated this at 4 stars because I have no idea how well it will hold up, especially the crank handle and the screw that keeps it together. I had to "tune" the screw for the right amount of friction as it was too tight coming from the factory. I don't know how it will wear or hold up after many uses. MADE IN USA! Nice to see!1923ModelT

The quality is sturdy, and I have no doubt it'll last. It's easy to use and was built with ergonomics in mind. I've always had to use a handful of tools before, so it's nice to finally have a "catch-all." The D'Addario Guitar Pro Winder not Only cuts the strings on your guitar. It's actually a Three in One tool. It shipped in a very timely manner. The packaging it came in was tied securely to a piece of cardboard. The winder did fit the pegs. However, the fit wasn't entirely secure. The peg shifted considerably while trying to wind making it a little difficult to to turn. The bridge pin puller worked perfectly and smoothly, easily pulling all the bridge pins neatly off. The tool itself is Extremely lightweight which is always a bonus. However, when opening the handles to be able to cut the guitar string they stuck together and made it rather difficult to fully open and extend. It did cut through the guitar string, although it did take a little more force then I would have liked it to. It sent the guitar sing flying across my counter. I didn't like the fact that there was a little piece of metal shaving left on the counter after cutting the string. Overall, the Guitar Pro- Winder did do exactly as it claimed. I don't think it would hold up to constant use. However, for occasional use and at it's asking price I believe it's a good deal.Kay
