The Córdoba GK Studio Negra is a rare gem among acoustic classical guitars. Once you hold it and hear the incredible tones it offers your ears, you not want to put it down. Pure ear candy that plays like soft golden butter as you easily slide your fingers on the fretboard and bend the strings. After playing many other acoustic and classical guitars over the years as a professional musician, the GK Studio Negra was ‘the one’ I’d been searching for. It just feels good and the woods are so well balanced not only in tones but beautifully designed. It’s truly a work of art and has much character. The value is unbelievable for what you get because this remarkable guitar plays and has the appearance of one three times it’s cost. There’s no other way to say it except that you will fall in love with it. I did. For classical, jazz, folk or blues it’s a wonderful companion on or off the stage plugged in or not. With dynamic rich low end and gorgeous sustain, you will be inspired to play this versatile guitar for many years. This was my upgrade from a Lucero 150se and what a difference it made. In terms of playability there's no comparison, the Cordoba is superior in every way. Start with the tuners/nut which are perfectly smooth allowing you to make small adjustments even on steel strings. Playing the Cordoba is simply easier and there were things I could not do well on the Lucero due to the thickness of the wood neck. Mind you I'm not talking about the nut width which is 50mm on both, I'm talking the actual thickness of the wood neck itself below the fret board. The slimmer profile of the Cordoba meant reaching certain chords easier, changing chords faster, and giving my hands the ability to put pressure when needed. The factory strings on the Cordoba appear to be superior as well although I would still upgrade them if you can afford it; the steel strings on the Lucero wore out at about 85hrs. No fret noise of any kind on the Cordoba (so long as you play the chord right) whereas on the Lucero I would get buzzing on frets 5 & 6 from both 5th and 4th strings with anything other than light strumming, even with perfect finger placement. The sound of the Cordoba is more sharp, crisp, and clear than the Lucero. My only con is that the shallower body does create a slightly more "twangy" sound than I'm used to but its a negligible difference I quickly settled with in exchange for the other qualities. You get what you pay for. This is a very solid guitar for the price. I would recommend nothing less for serious beginners.Joe T
This guitar is great. I've had no real qualms with it so far, albeit I've only had it since April 1st. I used to play about a decade ago, but life happened and I stopped playing consistently. I bought a Jasmine S34-C about a month back to start up playing again, but it didn't revitalize my love for guitar quite like this one did. I had only played an acoustic before up until I picked up this GK Studio. As soon as I saw it I knew I had to have it. The ebony/gold tuning keys look very refined and the guitars "negra" or black style looks sooooo good. The contrast between the lighter and darker colors does a lot for me. The sound(for me) is just right. Not too soft, but not excessively punchy. I am not someone to perform at gigs as I've only ever played at home, but this guitar definitely has made me want to give it my all and try new things! When things finally get back to 100% here in the states I'll be giving this guitar a shot at a few spots. I've seen a few reviews online that suggest that this is a great gig guitar as well and has a great sound when plugged in so I can't wait to try that out even more so! The only (minor)thing I can think of that I would call a "con" is the Fishman tuner built onto the side of the guitar. I have not had a chance to test out the different options when it is plugged into an amp, but the on-hand guitar tuner setting can be a bit fidgety at times. Its not anything severe as I usually just tune by ear, but I personally only use it for a guide to get back to standard when I'm done messing about with other alt. tunings. I wouldn't say it docks a star from this review, but its just something to look out for if anyone is wondering about it.Ruben S

I mostly play rock/popular music gigs but wanted a classical nylon guitar for that particular sound on home recording projects. I researched intermediate level guitars and thought I'd found what I wanted when I chanced on a review of the Cordoba C7 and decided to spend a little more and go with that. I haven't been disappointed. The build quality and tone have been worth that little extra. It would have been nice if a gig bag was included to give it some protection but it wasn't a deal breaker.David
I had a misconception regarding this brand. The only Cordoba's I noticed in stock at the store were inexpensive ukuleles. So when I began the search for a proper classical guitar, Cordoba was nowhere on my list. I ordered a used european built guitar by a reputable brand. It arrived with a bad up-bow in the neck. That's when I learned that traditional classical guitars have no truss rod. (Just my opinion, but wood isn't what it used to be, and you aren't going to get an instrument built with old growth timber under several thousand dollars.) So began my search for a "traditional classical guitar", but with a truss rod. That google search led straight to Cordoba. (All their models have truss rods.) I ordered a C7 (built in China) and a 45CO (built in Spain) to see what this brand was about. It would be a battle royale for build and sound quality. The loser is… my bank account, because I'd like to keep both. The two have a different build and likewise a different feel and sound. (see Cordoba's website for details.) Fit and finish is impeccable on both guitars. The C7 projects more, while the 45CO has perhaps a slightly more refined tone. My past experience has been that nylon string guitars are difficult to play, have poor intonation and need to be tuned more than played. None of that is the case with these two. My steel string acoustic and electrics are collecting dust while I obsess over this genre of guitar. My conclusion is… classical guitars are awesome, and Cordoba should definitely be on your test drive list. What I received are well priced instruments that are not only well made but intoxicatingly fun to play.JRH

As soon as I picked up this guitar, it felt like it had been my guitar my whole life! The narrow neck and quality craftsmanship make it probably the most playable guitar I've ever gotten my hands on. The materials and look of the guitar are absolutely beautiful, and it sounds even more gorgeous. The pickup and microphone blend option is amazing, so you can play percussion or really capture rhythmic slaps and plucks of your fingerstyle. The cut away gives you that extra freedom near that wonderful area past the 12th fret, and arrived out of the box with perfect intonation across the entire fret board. Cut away doesn't effect the quality of the sound, and also just looks very good. The gig bag is as nice as it gets. I could not be more pleased with this purchase.Colin O
This guitar is really excellent, plenty loud and round sound from the tight-grained cedar top. The saddle and nut are high quality, and the craftsmanship across the rest of the instrument is great! The headstock especially is beautiful. I purchased a scratch and dent instrument, there were several marks in the finish in seemingly random spots, hard to tell exactly what caused them. There were also a few pin-sized bubbles in the finish (specifically near the edges on the body) that easily scratched off, leaving a hole directly to the wood itself. Very minor, but unsure of it was a factory flaw or just the finish being naturally delicate. Of course, it doesn't really affect the sound or playability of this wonderful instrument!Dan
I just received my Solea SA-C guitar in the mail and I could not be happier with how beautiful this instrument is! I am quite literally blown away by the beautiful wood grain of the cocobola back and sides! The fit and finish seems very good although there are a few small imperfections that you can find if you look close but overall this guitar is a gem. I've never owned a classical guitar before and ordered this one after doing some research. I did not want a Chinese made guitar and I wanted all solid wood. I first ordered a Cordoba Solista but it was back ordered so I cancelled and ordered this Solea and I'm happy I did because it's simply gorgeous and sounds exactly how I had imagined it would. This was my upgrade from a Lucero 150se and what a difference it made. In terms of playability there's no comparison, the Cordoba is superior in every way. Start with the tuners/nut which are perfectly smooth allowing you to make small adjustments even on steel strings. Playing the Cordoba is simply easier and there were things I could not do well on the Lucero due to the thickness of the wood neck. Mind you I'm not talking about the nut width which is 50mm on both, I'm talking the actual thickness of the wood neck itself below the fret board. The slimmer profile of the Cordoba meant reaching certain chords easier, changing chords faster, and giving my hands the ability to put pressure when needed. The factory strings on the Cordoba appear to be superior as well although I would still upgrade them if you can afford it; the steel strings on the Lucero wore out at about 85hrs. No fret noise of any kind on the Cordoba (so long as you play the chord right) whereas on the Lucero I would get buzzing on frets 5 & 6 from both 5th and 4th strings with anything other than light strumming, even with perfect finger placement. The sound of the Cordoba is more sharp, crisp, and clear than the Lucero. My only con is that the shallower body does create a slightly more "twangy" sound than I'm used to but its a negligible difference I quickly settled with in exchange for the other qualities. You get what you pay for. This is a very solid guitar for the price. I would recommend nothing less for serious beginners.Joe T
I mostly play rock/popular music gigs but wanted a classical nylon guitar for that particular sound on home recording projects. I researched intermediate level guitars and thought I'd found what I wanted when I chanced on a review of the Cordoba C7 and decided to spend a little more and go with that. I had a misconception regarding this brand. The only Cordoba's I noticed in stock at the store were inexpensive ukuleles. So when I began the search for a proper classical guitar, Cordoba was nowhere on my list. I ordered a used european built guitar by a reputable brand. It arrived with a bad up-bow in the neck. That's when I learned that traditional classical guitars have no truss rod. (Just my opinion, but wood isn't what it used to be, and you aren't going to get an instrument built with old growth timber under several thousand dollars.) So began my search for a "traditional classical guitar", but with a truss rod. That google search led straight to Cordoba. (All their models have truss rods.) I ordered a C7 (built in China) and a 45CO (built in Spain) to see what this brand was about. It would be a battle royale for build and sound quality. The loser is… my bank account, because I'd like to keep both. The two have a different build and likewise a different feel and sound. (see Cordoba's website for details.) Fit and finish is impeccable on both guitars. The C7 projects more, while the 45CO has perhaps a slightly more refined tone. My past experience has been that nylon string guitars are difficult to play, have poor intonation and need to be tuned more than played. None of that is the case with these two. My steel string acoustic and electrics are collecting dust while I obsess over this genre of guitar. My conclusion is… classical guitars are awesome, and Cordoba should definitely be on your test drive list. Selbst als Anfänger musste ich schnell feststellen, dass man doch etwas tiefer in die Tasche greifen muss, damit man Spass hat. An extraordinarily well designed and made guitar. The scale is a bit shorter than most guitars so it's easier to play, the bevel on the body makes it more comfortable to play, the fit and finish is perfect. It sounds good acoustically and plugged in. Really nice for finger style, and surprisingly good with a light pick. The back and sides are layered Sapele wood, the top is solid Sitka. The neck is maple. The tuners keep it in tune. I've played quite a few smaller body guitars in my 4 decades of playing, and this one is right at the top of the list along with Martin 00 and 000 models. I've been playing guitar for more than 45 years. I played hundreds of gigs with various bands in my younger years and still perform on rare occasions. I still play and practice every day and play many informal get togethers for small crowds. I own a Taylor NS42ce, 514ce, 312ce, 812ce 1st edition and a 914ce. I purchased this guitar for settings I wouldn't want to risk my more expensive guitars doing such as outdoors, campfire gigs or when I just wanted to throw it in the car in case of an impromptu party or get together jam. I can't tell you how surprised I was when I tuned up and started playing this guitar. I'm not going to try to tell you it plays or sounds like my 914ce, but I am going to tell you it plays and sounds amazing for a guitar twice it's price or more. This guitar now sets on a stand next to my desk in my office and gets played every day. It's a price point I don't worry about it setting out or getting a ding here or there and it truly is a pleasure to practice on and play. Thanks to this guitar I play more than I have in years and it's saving daily wear and tear on my more expensive guitars. This is hands down the best acoustic every made for a beginner's skill set and budget, but I will tell you first hand, it will put a smile on a seasoned player's face as well. I had been looking for a reasonably priced mid-range acoustic guitar. In most of the reviews I read they said that the Taylor Academy was a great "beginners" guitar. I have to say this is an incredible guitar all around and works well for any level of guitar player. Absolutely loved being able to go into the Sam Ash store and look at the guitar. Ich hatte diese Gitarre aus Neugierde erworben, zum Vergleich mit einer etwas teureren Ortega, einer R131. Ich muß bei beiden sagen, daß sie sich auch für den E-Gitarristen sehr angenehm spielen lassen. Ich empfinde die Breite des Halses als gut spielbar. Da er recht flach ist, geht es auch für allerlei Arten von Händen gut. Diese hier, wiewohl eine offizielle qualitative Kategorie geringer als eine R131, also "nur"mit laminierter Decke, gefällt mir besser. Sie ist fast makellos verarbeitet, besser als die (eigentlich gute) R131, und sie klingt – das ist ganz sicher Geschmackssache – für mich "voller" oder "wärmer" als die für mein Ohr leicht blecherne R131. Sicher ist sie keine Hanika, aber da ich nicht auf der Bühne stehe, sondern für mich spiele, ist sie mehr als ausreichend. Der Gigbag von Ortega ist gewohnt klasse. Allenfalls die (für unsereins recht hohe) Saitenlage werde ich nach eigenem Gusto verändern, ggf. eine andere Satteleinlage einfügen. Ein schönes Teil, auch optisch.

This guitar seems to be well built and has a nice deep sound. I’ve only had it for about 30 days, but I play it frequently for hours each time. I am excited everyday to play it during my breaks or when I am at home. The tuner is convenient, the controls are clear and the glossy finish is attractive. I took the guitar to GC for a truss rod adjustment which lowered the action. Frets and fingerboard are all up to par. Not much else to say. This is a good mid-level beginner’s guitar. Guitar is the third instrument that I am learning, after piano and drums. I look forward to playing this guitar during my breaks, at work, and when I come home. Most cordoba acoustic electric models are smaller than the standard 2 inch nut width. I teach music at a school who has the non-electric version, so it took a bit of time getting used to this. Overall, I am pleased with my purchase. I know that I can grow into this guitar, and if necessary I can “upgrade” if I become really good and dedicated. But in the meantime, I am content with enjoying the journey.Brian
I have had this guitar over 5 years. The Suarez high tension strings give it a clean sound. Warm bass string and higher treble strings. The guitar looks great and holds sound longer then some of the guitars I own in this price range. Plan to stick with Cordoba is I ever upgrade. Also enjoy the cutout and pickup. After you change your strings it does take 1-2 days before your strings tighten and settle. This is due to the high tension.Eloy

The frets are smooth, and overall this guitar seems better-constructed than some more expensive nylon-string models that were available at my local GC. This is my first nylon-string guitar, though I have played acoustics for nearly 20 years. Dies ist bereits die zweite dieser Gitarren für meine Tochter (die erste war eine halbe). Der Klang ist wirklich gut und die Verarbeitung einfach Top. Meine Tochter ist begeistert und auch der Gitarrenlehrer findet die Gitarre gut. Kann ich bedenkenlos empfehlen, würde die Gitarre selber auch wieder kaufen. Die halbe Gitarre war gut 4 Jahre im Einsatz, ohne dass sich irgendwelche Mängel gezeigt hätten. Von der aktuellen erwarte ich das gleiche. Da diese optisch bis auf die Größe fast identisch sind, wird das wohl werden 🙂
Ich habe die Ortega R122L in 3/4 Größe Linkshänderausführung für meine Kinder bestellt. Die Lieferung erfolgte schnell und mit stabiler, das Instrument gut schützender Verpackung. Die Gitarre ist für diese Preisklasse sehr gut verarbeitet und hat einen vollen Klang. Das Stimmen mit dem Stimmgerät war auch für uns Anfänger unproblematisch, der Transport zum Gitarrenunterricht dank der mitgelieferten Tasche sofort möglich. Ein wirklich schönes und hochwertiges Produkt, das ich nur empfehlen kann.

Having relatively recently started learning guitar on an electric stratocaster-style guitar this was a great transition to the acoustic segment. The thinner body makes it much more comfortable to play than say a dreadnought and the neck is comfortable to transition too, yet the guitar doesn't seem to sacrifice as much sound as you'd expect from a thinner guitar. The finish of the guitar is that of a more expensive guitar for example the rosewood finger board. On arrival I actually thought the guitar looked better than the pictures on the website suggest but do note that because of the finish it is prone to showing finger marks which would need cleaning time to time. After suffering a permanent back injury I could no longer play my elictric guitar as it was too heavy or my acoustic electric guitar because it felt like it was twice it's normal size because I could no longer find a comfortable position for myself to play it. The only thing I'm not entirely happy with is the action. It's just a little too high. Other than that, I love it. It's a very nice looking acoustic for the money. It stays in tune extremely well and I was shocked at how full the sound was even with such a thin body. Sounds even better plugged in. The thinner body is super comfortable to handle and hold. It makes the transition from electric to acoustic very easy. The built in tuner is one of my favorite features. It works great and seems to be as accurate as any other tuner I've ever used. Overall, I would recommend this acoustic to anyone on a budget looking for a great sounding and feeling acoustic who doesn't mind the action a little on the higher side. (Side Note – I might be too critical on the action since I'm used to my electrics set up for such low action.)

I was looking for a good beginner's guitar, and I wanted something with nylon strings. I did a pretty extensive search in order to find an instrument that was relatively inexpensive yet had some degree of quality. I read reviews on this particular model, and most seemed to be pleased. I was able to purchase one that, I'm guessing, had been returned, and I was very pleased with both the reduced price and the condition/quality of the guitar. The guitar itself has a very beautiful and mellow tone. It stays in tune, only requiring minor adjustments from time-to-time. I would not recommend this for young people or those adults with smaller hands, as the neck is somewhat wider than one might expect. All-in-all a very fine instrument for the price.Swewpa
This is the best beginner/student classical guitar there is bar none. It's full size and the intonation is spot on, the tuners (whilst basic) are fully functional and consistent. The bridge saddle has 3rd string compensation and is set to a low-ish action. Putting a new set of EJ45's opens up the sound considerably (don't play with the crappy strings that are on it). Great second or studio guitar for the experienced player. Stick it in a half decent case and you'll have a fantastic holiday guitar for around £150. The spruce soundboard already sounds good and will improve with age. Buy, play it – chuck it about. – it's very well made and robust. Finish is shiny and cleans with a wipe. Buy it today.Warwick M.

I haven't played in a few years but the pandemic had me searching for something to get my mind off working crazy hours. There would be few guitars I'd buy sight unseen but I rolled the dice because I'd played Martin's first backpacking incarnation and was familiar with their quality. This little guitar wouldn't disappoint! It is a smaller scale but my fingers fit on the fret board and it's easy to just leave out and pick up when you need it. The sound is really good for the size and it's easy to strum or pick. It was exactly what I was looking for but a little more. I honestly didn't expect to be this happy with how much guitar I got for the price. If you need something to stick by the desk or play by the fire, this is a good optionBob
it arrived yesterday to romania, from music store germany (thanks for handling it with so much care!) and i laid my hands for the first time on this loveable tiny beauty. it looks amazing and feels amazing, in every aspect. excellent playability all thourghout the neck, right out of the box… i wanted a travel buddy — small, sturdy, light and playable… and here she is. there are a lot reviews on the net, i will let here my own subjective opinion, after one day of having it (shipped from music store, germany). – i'm a tall guy (6 feet 3 / 190 cm), but the smallness of martin lx1 is not a hindrance in playing. my wife is a mongolian petite, so perhaps I'm used with handling small beauties 🙂 – i have big hands, but not thick fingers. if i stretch my fingers i can cover this guitar's neck from the net to the 10th fret (from pinky to thumb stretched out) — so you can have a clue; however, i feel comfortable playing all over the neck, even past the 14th fret. so no problem with that… and the transition back and forth to my normal-sized acoustic fender pm1 or to my electric squier affinity tele feels smooth, adjusting in no time. – the guitar is neck heavy, but it doesn't bother me at all; you see, it sits comfortably in my lap. – well, of course, the sound is not of a normal-sized guitar — one has to live with that. it is somehow a boxy sound, but martin has a lot of character, so i'm quite pleased with the sound. the guitar seems to suit better for fingerpicking or strumming with bare fingers; when i use my pick it's too noisy, especially the d string is sooo loud, taking over the other strings. in know, it's a new guitar, freshly out of its box, so perhaps it needs time to shape its sound. if this will not happen (due to hpl back and sides) i will still be pleased, the sound is good enough and i can work my way around. – the machine heads are of excellent quality (like every aspect of this guitar, actually): i tuned the guitar yesterday, after taking it out of the box, then forgot about it… summing up: craftmanship — state of the art sound — boxy, you may like it or not (martin has character, a distinct voice, above all) optic — beautiful as it gets, simply perfect price/performance — well, i would have loved to pay less… in the states, it was 399 USD until recently, now it's more expensive and perhaps the price will rise as well in the current covid situation; so buy know, don't postpone if you consider having one.
I played a friend's dreadnaught sized Martin and fell in love. I already owned two other guitars at the time (Samick and a Fender Redondo Player acoustic) and I didn't want to spend the money in a Martin at this time. This happened to pop up as a stupid deal of the day and so I bought. I wasn't sure about the laminate at first, but it feels and plays like a well made guitar. It sounds bright and it is a tone I enjoy hearing. If someone had given me advice as a new player I would have wished they told me about this guitar. It is concert size so it is a little smaller than a dreadnaught. It is easier for me to practice barring chords and doesn't feel as awkward on my body as my dreadnaught. I love both guitars, but I definitely still use this one as I advance as a player. I noodle on it when I am watching tv, take it when I go way for the weekend, and bring it to play for my friends. I have been playing classical since age 12, I am now 72. I have found this instrument to be most comfortable and responsive to my needs. I still have my first guitar that was purchased by my parents in 1954. As I play for my own pleasure and an occasional recital, I have found much satisfaction with this product. My son gave it to me 2 years ago for a birthday present. This instrument "fits" me perfectly. The neck is of perfect dimension for my left hand and fingers. As I transitioned from my first guitar to this one, I found it to be so comfortable. As I do not use much, if any, amplification, it is nice for large rooms like church buildings or recitals. The most expensive is not necessarily the best. The instrument must compliment the human body. Thank you for allowing me to comment on this instrument.Sounds of the past
Overall: This was my first time ordering from zZounds. I wanted a cheap nylon string to play around the house and Ibanez makes decent low cost guitars. The guitar showed up and the box looked to be opened previously, the tape was cut. I immediate noticed the fretboard was extremely dry, to the point that the radius of the fretboard was concave, not flat, it had cracks, and all of the fret ends on low E side and high E side were sticking way out. I boxed it right back up and sent it back the next day. I'm no stranger to working on guitars but this was not worth the effort. Too bad, the guitar itself sounded decent but I highly suspect this guitar was stored in a poor environment hence why the fretboard was severely dried out and the radius of the board literally changed shape.Customer service etiquette was lacking as well but I got a refund. If you buy anything from this place, a bit of advice, use PayPal, as I did. The refund process seems to move faster if you report an issue via PayPal.
I have several classical guitars, and this was the least expensive. It has become my go-to guitar for gigging, including a few spots for TV. At home, this Ibanez is the one that was always out of the case on a stand, ready to pick up whenever. So it became comfortable, but then noticeably reliable. It stays in tune. The electronics sound better than the Fishman on another that I have, particularly the bass response. The tuners (particularly the low E) have withstood routine changes to drop D a few times while playing, without obvious sign of wear. When I first started gigging I used another great sounding guitar but then changed to the Ibanez to protect the other(s) from bumps, weather, people, and other hazards. If something terrible happened to my guitar collection, probably the first replacement might be this Ibanez.Tim - ATL

I bought this for my friend that wants to learn how to play the guitar. I chose this for him because it's a nylon string so it wouldn't hurt his fingers which I noticed that most beginners easily gets frustrated when the steel strings hurts their fingers and then stops learning how to play the guitar. This Yamaha classical guitar is sold as a 'student' guitar but it's also a great travel size instrument. It's affordable, stays in tune, intonates well and has a great full body sound even though its a 3/4 size guitar. The nylon strings are easier on the fingers than steel strings and are great for someone just starting out. This one arrived with smooth fret ends and played perfectly right out of the box. This is a well made, nice sounding guitar. Lefty instruments aren't as prolific as righties in general and more esoteric styles like 12-strings are even less likely to be in a shop. Having an inexpensive yet good sounding instrument like this is a relatively economical way to try it out. My guitar instructor is very impressed with how it sounds, especially for 3 c-notes below a grand. well made surprisingly the back maple is pretty it sounds like my Cole Clark almost lol I bought a left handed 1500 dollar Cole Clark and didnt like leaving it leaning up against my chair so i bought this beater and its nice i like it. I started my left handed journey. The quality card was stamped 2009 so i guess it was sitting for awhile in the wharehouse all the better.wg
I wanted to surprise my husband with a guitar for our one year wedding anniversary. I had no clue about guitars, did a lot of research and that's when I came across the Sawtooth brand while looking for a decent and reasonably priced guitar. This guitar is beautiful and well built. For that price it is a bargain. The details and design were not skimped on. It is solid, sturdy and has a rich look and feel to it. I gave 4 stars because while Walmart has the item listed as a 6 string guitar, it is actually a 12 string. I have contacted Wal-Mart about this issue and after reordering the item for a 3rd time, I finally gave up because it does not appear to be available in a 6 string even though that is currently the only option showing on the website. They kept sending me a 12 string. They have assured me every time I reordered that the issue has been fixed but clearly that is not the case. My husband will just have to learn how to play the 12 string, he loves the guitar that much! By the way, it sounds amazing. You won't be disappointed, just be prepared to get a 12 string and not a 6 string.Karen
