Sound: If you're coming in looking for a distinctive amp character sound… this ain't it. This is for clean headroom that allows you to sculpt your sound with pedals if you need to or with modeling… or for seriously hearing what your bass actually sounds like. For me personally, I've really come to enjoy it (and I lusted after the SVT grit sound forever) and I can't believe this does good of a job for the price. Features: The power section on this is just unreal – I'm sure the wattage measure for volume is probably a little relative (then again, so is 1-10 or 11, right?), but I don't ever take it much over the "40W" marker going into a 2 x 12 cab (yeah, you read that right) and I've never had a problem keeping up with two guitarists and a drummer, either on stage or in our practice space. The EQ is a little weird if you're coming from a low/mid/high setup like just about every piece of equipment out there has, but it honestly ends up being more intuitive for adjusting to a room or different bass in front of it. I took a gamble on the line out, which I understand isn't "true DI" in the sense that it isn't an independent signal from the rest of the amp (so if you mess with EQ or volume, your FOH has to adjust on their end), but in the end I ended up pairing this with an MXR Bass DI+ for a FOH signal and to get another distortion sound, so it sort of renders that point moot. I also wish they'd put 2 Speakon jacks instead of 1 Speakon and 2 1/4" outs, but not the end of the world for me. Ease of Use: I think the biggest learning curve on this is the EQ, but as I mentioned, once you understand it, it makes much more sense than your standard 3-band. Quality: For as light as it is, it feels like a tank! The only thing I'd even be a little nervous about is the small mute switch – which just feels light because, well, it's a tiny plastic switch that you just tap, no need for a big ol' mechanical clunker, right? And as silly as it seems, just the basic case is still a great touch. Value: I was very much on the fence between this and the Mesa/Boogie Subway series, and I think if they had been the same price (and both available from zZounds with pay as you play) I would have probably ended up going with the Mesa ONLY because of the name… but I don't at all regret going with this instead. It's done everything I've asked of it. Manufacturer Support: Haven't had to deal with them directly but a big reason I purchased was that it seems like they're extremely good about direct support (including from Pat himself!) The Wow Factor: Would this blow me away as a gotta-have if I had the funds and the means? I mean, tonally, no – alone, it's not tickling my ears, but it does rumble the rump in a rather pleasing way (hey, this is a safe space, don't judge my kinks.) But as someone who needed (fine, WANTED) a physically-smaller bass amp that did the job so I could keep spending my money on rebuilding crappy guitars instead, this 100% does the trick. Overall: I'm not a bassist, I'm a guitarist who just plays one on stage. One of my favorite amps and amp concepts was the Crate Powerblock (which I still use as a travel/audition amp sometimes) – and the Bass Block is what happens if you make the Powerblock 1000 times better an at least 5.33333333 times louder (that's science, baby, I wouldn't lie to you.) Simply put – if you want stellar, clean power that you can put just about anything in front of but also carry around IN A BACKPACK, this is where it's at.Matthew
This amp is a real winner. The power, as with many Class D amps isn't quite as much as the stated wattage, but it is loud and punchy. The amount of grind and kick may seem restrained because I am playing an upright, though I did test her with one of my 5 string electrics with a larger speaker cabinet, and I ran more pre gain on that run. With the upright, all knobs are at 12 0'clock, because uprights love flat sound waves. It is set up to do a great job as a double threat if I ever go back to gigs that require both upright and electric. She's gigged with me a few times and seems to have an intuitive set up with the Active and Passive inputs, Mute button, and the Depth and Contour knobs. I enjoy playing around with my electric because in conjunction with the throttling up or down of Master Volume vs. Gain and varying EQ via Depth and Contour knobs allows for a lot of very handy tone colouring.bill
I have a mixed review. I originally bought this amp because of the great reputation QSC products have had over the years under Pat Quilter's leadership – well-designed, highly-regarded products at a reasonable price, especially in the amplifier category. In the months I've used the Bass Block, it's been reliable and works without strain when I connect two cabinets, one at 4 Ohm and one at 8. That's a load of at least 2.67 Ohm, which is impressive. It never heats up, never shuts down. Bottom line: this amp has been bulletproof. The amp is light – about 15 pounds lighter than the class AB amp Eden Highwayman 500 I'd been using. Before purchasing, I spoke with Pat at the Quilter booth at the 2019 NAMM Show. He explained the tone controls, which are quite different than the usual 4-band passive or semi-parametrics you find on other units. In over 20 gigs with a number of different cab configurations with and without horn tweeters, and both active and passive basses, it has been a challenge to get the tone I need from this amp – it seems skewed toward a bassy/midrangey tone with no ability to juice up the treble. (I play classic rock in a club band, use my fingers mostly, and a pick on a few tunes) For example, when I play my Rick 4003, I can only get that clanky Rick tone if I bypass the amp's preamp section and use an outboard preamp that has more traditional tone controls. With that said, the roundish tones I can get from this unit are good; I'm just disappointed that either the unit is unable to provide the treble definition I want, or I'm unable to figure out how to get it with this amp. On the industrial design side: the amp chassis feels one step from finished – sharp folded edges stick out (versus, say, the smooth packaging you find in a GK or Genzler head.) From a marketing perspective, I wouldn't have applied the graphic of a caution sign (red stripes) to the top of the amp, and the word "block" in the product name, think "verb.Countbassy

To my surprise this amp gets quite loud, I suspect it will hold its own in a jam session or even a small gig. This is a great little combo at a terrific price! It gets quite loud without unintentional distortion, the SGT gives a nice, warm distortion effect, and the features include a balanced XLR output (for easy connection to a mixing board), plus 1/8" headphone output and aux input, so you can play along with music in your headphones and not disturb others. This is a great practice and small gigging amp for the price range. Built well as only to be expected by Ampeg. To be honest though, I think my Fender Rumble 40 has better tone with same size speaker and lighter in weight for a lesser price. I love the option of having both amps because I keep one at church and one in the spare bedroom for private quiet practice as both have that feature..not to take away from this Ampeg at all, I love the looks of the checkered tolex and color better than the silvery Fender grill. I am very happy with this practice amp. Newer bassists will want something with more punch to jam with in the garage. Those of us that either have a separate gigging amp or a simple need for portability and in-home use will find that this is a great buy. The tone is great and the rhythms are essential for practice. If you play slap or with a full range or bright sound, this is an amazing practice amp. It will provide plenty of bedroom level volume, with amazing effects and amp emulations. In the Roland tradition, it is solidly built without a single rattle or vibration. It is all you need to practice bass. However, it is NOT for the deep, no treble player. If this is you, go elsewhere. You simply cannot produce a deep, bass-heavy sound (at any usable volume) with 5 watts, without the kind of high end processing that is used on studio mastered recordings. If you doubt this, try playing your bass through the MP3 input on a portable or bookshelf audio system that you think has killer bass. You'll see my point as soon as you boost the bass. Great little amp. I like to go dry camping in my RV, and I like to practice my bass lines when I am out like this. Perfect for practicing. It is battery powered and the batteries last about 10 hours. As a bassist who plays steadily in restaurants and in house jams I have appreciated the light cabinet of the GK above all. At a foot and a half wide, 2 feet tall, the cabinet fits the cramped spaces in which I often play. Happily, it even fits in the front seat of the Miata MX-5. The sound is widely adjustable. I can get go from a hard, contemporary sound to the old school vibe, as needed. Controls are not complicated, which I like. I have broken things twice in these active 5 years. Fixed without sending it to factory both times. Once I stupidly tilted it back against a wall without any bracing. When it fell on its back it cracked the power cable input port. Pulling it out I got a big spark and a powder burn on the aluminum back. But I youtubed how to pull the amp and ordered the plastic port from the factory. A GK tech gave me a run-down of what to do via a phone call. Repaired it, reconnected it and have not had a moment's issue since. Recently a lightning strike extremely close to my house knocked out the wifi and an entire house circuit. The GK was plugged in during the strike. Afterwards it was not dead but wouldn't play – no sound. Took it to an amp repairman in Shreveport who found one of the op amps was dead. He replaced it for a hundred and I have not had a moment's issue. I'm entirely happy with it. I play a Hofner made in China, which is a beauty, and a Squier Jaguar SS, also a rock solid axe.trudeau
Purchased the MB210-II around a year ago. I was between this amplifier and the Ampeg Ba-210 and actually ordered the latter as an open box product. Well, luckily for me the Ampeg arrived nonfunctional, so I went with the GK for its extra power, and was introduced to a fantastic amp. Since I've played it at rehearsals and gigs, tossed in trunks and trucks, and it holds up beautifully. Its small design and 35 pound weight has my guitar players envious, and I've used this outside with no external amplification and filled up a park with clear sound. Honestly however, it does seem a bit sterile sounding and doesn't seem to have that "classic" tone or "vibe". But in terms of versatility, and portability, I wouldn't have any other amp behind me. I had been playing out of an swr working man 400w with the working man 4×10 for 10 years. The swr is def the king of low end tones but it wasn't very versatile and didn't give me the good active aggressive flea like sound that I wanted. On top of that my old cab weighs 97 pounds and the head is heavy af too. The gk 210 gave me exactly what I wanted. Nice low end but real clear punchy in your face treble and high mid. Sound: I bought the Ampeg Microvr Head originaly with one Ampeg 2-10" cabinet as a part of matched set, as most people do – about three months a later I bought another cabinet – so now I'm often running two of the same cabinets and the head together. When you plug in the second cabinet the rig gets noticeably louder in this set up, and also appears to have a much more deeper bass tone(if you want it). Adding the second cabinet added $300 to my rig – but if you can afford it, the sound is far superior to just the single cabinet, and gives you a lot of flexiblity. For smaller indoor venues like playing bass behind people with pugged in acoustic guitars, I run the head with just one cabinet and it sounds fine – both tone and volume wise. When I playing along with a drummer most of the time I opt for using two cabinets rather than just one. At higher volumes – like playing with a drummer it just sound stronger and fuller in every respect than by using just the single 2 10" cabinet. I'm either running a recent custom C.F. Martin Acoustic/ Electric Bass guitar, or a Fender Precession Bass, through the rig – depending on who and what I'm playing on music wise. It works excellent with either instrument and I am very happy with the set up. Even with just one cabinet you won't be dissapointed. Features: Happy with everything that it came with feature wise. Didn't like the stock power cord that came with because it was very stiff and hard to wind up – Ampeg should switch vendors and get a power cord supllier that could offer them a more felxible cord of the same quality that you cound wind up easier. Ease of Use: Tone controls are easy to figure out and use. Rear connections on the amp are simple, straight forward and easy to use, and hook things up. I often use a Martin acoustic bass guitar with this rig – so I use a Fishman DI preamp in between my bass and the amp – this being done basically to help control feedback at higher volumes (especially when playing out door gigs) and to fine tune the tone on the acoustic bass a bit more. My Fender bass sounds fine with out the Fishman preamp and the controls on the amp head work well with it – giving you many mutiple tone combinations depending on how you set them. Also my Fender fretless bass sounds really good through the amp and the matched speaker that you will most likely buy with the head. Quality: Quality seems very high. After about two years of owning and active giging – it is holding up extremely well. Over the last year or so I have taken it out on local gigs about twice a week, So it's been out of my house more than a hundred times so far, and there haven't been any issues so far – all this in all kinds of weather and temperatures. I had black vinyl covers made for the head (from a custom amp cover innernet company)and for both speaker cabinets as soon as I bought everything – so even aften trucking the units all over the place for quite awhile now they still all look fresh and brand new. The power cord that came with it was very stiff and always hard to roll up – so I bought an after market cord on a website cord supplier that was more flexible and easier to wind up. I've used the after market power cord every since. The head has a fan in the back that runs whever the unit is powered up, that when you first get the amp drives you crazy – because it appears to sound so loud. Truth is though while you may hear it running in your house when practing – you never do at gigs. At any gig the room and enviroment background noise easily drown it out right away – you just never hear the fan running at all. When I first got it I though something was wrong with the fan – there wasn't. Its an Ampeg thing – that is the low fan noise in a quiet background setting. Keeps everything cool inside the head – so you can certainly live with it. I got used to it after awhile and don't even notice it anymore. No one has ever commented to me anywhere about any fan noise coming from my amp. So don't think something is wrong with the fan when you first get the head. Value: The original outlay (about $600 for the head and one matching cabinet) is a bit steep compared to several other small bass amps on the market out there – but you get what you pay for I guess. Due to the price saddly – alot of bass players might not be able to buy one and will go with something cheaper out there. Before buying this I looked around for about two months at other rigs on the innernet, at music stores, and at othet musicians' bass rigs when watching them perform. This unit was replacing a Hartke Kickback 12 – which I used for about three years for the same type of smaller gigs – which is for more low volume type of dealsthat I play at – where you don't have to worry about shaking the room and making the paint peel of the walls when you hit your low E string on something like Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac". Sound: I own the Microvr amp and 2 210svtav cabs. I bought the second cab after I got the Mircovr set up. The sound sound you get from this things for the money blows anything else out their out of the water. To get the rated 200watts performance you need a 2nd cab as the load with one cab is 8 ohms at 150 watts. Light weight portability and small footprint size are a plus especially if your space chanllenged. This thing rocks. Features: This is a no frills set up. Has what you need to have great sound with a headphone jack to play practice in a low noise enviroment. Ease of Use: It has a 3 band eq section that you can dial in easy to find a sound you like. Its no svtpro 7 but for the money you will not find a better amp in its class. Quality: This amp is made solid. Mimics the old school look of the 70s svt lineup. Value: With anything you purchase you wish you could get it for less thats just the way it is. But for the money you will not find a better sounding and well made rig in this class. The Microvr and 210 svtvr cab set up is da bomb. If you want portability light weight and the best sound get this AMPEG. Manufacturer Support: I have had no issues with this amp. I recently grew tired of my peavey TNT combo and wanted a bass amp with tubes. After doing a little research, I was almost set on an Orange hybrid of some kind (I forget the exact model but it was a similar power rating and also a tube hybrid). I went to the local guitar center (I can say that here, right? Musician's friend has been owned by the same company for years) to try one out and they didn't have one in stock. I instead tried out a few other hybrid bass heads, all 500-1000 watts, all tube-class D hybrids. This beat out the Markbass head, the GK, and the Hartke I compared it to, all using the same speaker cabs (acoustic 115 and ampeg 410). I admit that I didn't do a side by side against the orange, but I felt the ampeg was so far ahead of the pack and at such a better deal that I didn't need to hear the Orange. This head has a very warm, growling distortion, which is what I was looking for. It also has plenty of headroom as well as a built-in compressor, which cleans up very nicely. It also has, for the most part, very simple and straight-forward controls, which are very responsive and feel solid. I do wish it had more than a 3-band eq though, as my band plays in drop C# or B and it's difficult to cut through the mix on the mids and highs. I suppose the (IMO useless) "mid frequency" switch might remedy that issue, but I preferred to simply add an outboard eq to my effects loop and now it sounds great no matter what key or tuning I'm in. The construction feels sturdy. The rackmount ears hold up just fine and the chassis feels rugged enough. I have read reviews that complain about this model overheating, especially when mounted in a rack case, so I might recommend mounting an extra fan in your case or leaving the space above it empty. There have also been complaints that a design flaw in the circuitry has been blowing out peoples' preamp tubes. I've also heard that Ampeg has corrected the problem on recent models, so I feel good about mine still. I've only owned this unit for a couple weeks and haven't even gigged with it yet, so I don't really have much to say first-hand about reliability. I will say however that I immediately bought a rackmount case for it just in case, as well as a power conditioner. This amp is almost perfect. The mid frequency knob is kind of weird but other than that, it's an incredible piece of gear. 99/100. Heck, 99.9/100. (For those wondering, the speakers I use are an acoustic 115 and an acoustic 810. I use an Art 351 eq in the effects loop and mainline an electro-harmonics bass big muph pi. The SVT pro series seems to me to be an excellent trade off between that classic SVT sound and portability. Due to lockdown I’ve not taken mine out live yet but I have cranked it in my home studio and used it to record and it’s a straight up SVT. You know what you’re getting with those three letters. I’ve read reviews about components cutting out and going silent during shows but I believe that issue was rectified some time ago. I’ve had no issues to note. It’s a lick heavy and less portable than some of its competitors but I wanted an Ampeg and that’s a price I was willing to pay from the start. I recommend mounting it into a rack anyway and that becomes more of a non-issue. TLDR: authentic SVT sound, smaller than a classic, cheaper than a classic, not as light as you’d think.Robert G.
I picked mine up last week and played two weekend shows with it. It has the best sound I have ever heard through any amp. Very versatile. I had been playing through a 600 watt acoustic amp, and there is no comparison in the tone. I am running through a single 8 ohm cabinet with one 15. The reason is because I have heard these amps will flame out, and probably sooner than later. Therefore hopefully cutting the load in half will delay the inevitable. Also, nothing wrong with having plenty of head room. At any rate I got the two year warranty and I have an active bass di for when it happens as it did at a large concert three weeks ago with my Acoustic amp. The di output is awesome. We run a large PA and I play wireless, so I was able to go out front during sound check and feel the thunder. WOW! No more wimpy bass tones as long as this monster holds it together. If you play on a professional level, you will want this amp.

I ordered a positive grid 600W head it arrived defective and I returned it the next day I then ordered and paid for a second one because I didn't want to miss out on the deal. Well today I called them because the second head was not being shipped and I was told that I would not be getting the second amp because they were out. They are refunding all my money that's not the problem the problem is I was told they had another to sell me which I was find with even though they should have set one aside because they knew the first one was being shipped back. I was not even offered a deal a a rack one which they have in stock I think I should have been offered a deal on one of the other positive grid. This amp is incredible. Having pretty much any sound at my fingertips, in a unit which can go from whisper quiet (but still great sounding) to stage volume is awesome. The knobs/switches etc all feel like very high quality, and the added software licence is a nice bonus. It may seem pricey, but it is way, way cheaper than buying all those classic amps, and the sounds are indistinguishable. Can't recommend highly enough.malediction99
I was very excited to get the Bias head after many reviews online. To my disappointment, it seems that this amounts to a midi controller for the Bias Amp software and pretty much nothing else. Unfortunately, I was not able to get any kind of usable tone out of this (possibly due to my own lack of understanding or maybe it needs to be run out of a cab) but, the thing that made me give it a two star rating is that I found out the Bias FX software cannot also be used with this head. There is so much more that could have been done with this thing. I am very disappointed with the execution of this product and had hoped for something more than the bare minimum amount of functionality.NICK

This amp is fantastic. For someone that is so used to having different modellers, tube amps, multi fx and stompboxes this is now all I need. I've been meddling with allsorts kf gear for 17 years in my search for tone. I feel I am now at the end. Managed to dial in 4 very usable great sounding patches in minutes just using the front panel, something I've not been able to do with any amp or modeller in a while. It djents, it can do blues crunch, it can do straight rock grit, chimey clean, and just big standard chuggy metal very well. It's quite light, but when you turn up the volume you can feel air moving, like you can with a much bigger cab or with a valve amp. For a 1×12 it isn't boxy at all, very open sounding. The Waza speaker is very harsh in the top and highs to begin with when you first switch it on, but after a few hours use the speaker breaks in and the harsh highs all disappear. For someone that has always used Celestion V30's this Waza speaker is just amazing and I'm definitely leaving it as is! The dynamic response to picking and rolling your volume knob down is just how a valve amp responds – light picking = cleaner tones. Dig in with your pick and the amp comes alive. Fantastic all round amp, Boss really have nailed it with this one.
Just picked one of these and it's been a joy to play. Pretty easy to use with quite a few options. Was able to dial in some tones that sound like my $800-1k tube amps. Honestly this amp is the best bang for your buck amp available imo. I really love the Waza Craft Greenback speaker. I love the .5, 50,100 watt options. Haven't even explored the software yet but I'm confident enough in this amp to give it a 5 star already. This of course is keeping in mind the fact it's essentially a budget amp price. Sound: Right out of the box? I didn’t even adjust EQs. Set volume and gain, and started playing. Took 0 effort to get 98% of the way to my live tone that is an Orange Rockerverb 100W MK2 and Marshall 212 with V30s. Features: I love the Tone Studio. I did have to pull a star from Ease Of Use because it may be confusing if you’re not good with computers. Ease of Use: If you can’t get a good sound out of this amp, return it, sell your guitars, and find a new hobby. That’s how easy getting a good sound out of this is. Quality: Seems pretty decent. I wouldn’t call it robust, but it doesn’t FEEL as cheap as the price would suggest. Value: 100% worth the price. I’d have paid $100 more for it if I’d have known how good it would sound. Manufacturer Support: I’ve dealt with Roland/Boss in the past, and they’ve always been wonderful. The Wow Factor: Looks good, sounds good, price is good. A perfect practice amp, that could stand in for a small venue in a pinch. Naturally my live rig is a bit much for my apartment, but this is just what the doctor ordered. Overall: Solid state amps have come a long way. A REALLY long way. I’ll be honest, being a tube snob, I had very low expectations. Not only does this 5 watt lil' monster have enough power to rattle the windows, it also has class! At only 9 lbs. the Bugera T5 Infinium has enough "UMFF" to push your favorite 4X12" cabinet into the stratosphere! It's better having this reverb built into this lil' madman than not having any at all. Just like 9/10 of the other amp heads in its class. The 1 channel, "all tube" head has warm cleans. Push in the PHAT switch and crank the volume and gain and you get saturated distortion that will blow you away! All of that in a 9 lb metal cage like package for only $200! You won't find another 5 W head with all of that for this price. I love my T5 Infinium from Bugera!brmul-8207
Bought this head for 162 ChF and combined with the Vox BC108 (85,-) it is a fantastic value. I should say, it is my first all-valve amp so I can't make many comparisons, but here is my general review. The amp reacts very nicely to changes in my guitar's output. Turning down the guitar volume or playing very softly gives me a clean sound even with lots of gain. The distortion is generally very harmonic and fuzzy. You can absolutely get a metal tone from this with a set of (higher output) humbuckers. You will need the "Phat" switch for anything high-gain, which will bypass the EQ, but to me it sounds great. The reverb sounds quite good and is very useful. The build quality and looks seem top-notch. There are three minor drawbacks. Firstly, even at 0,1 Watt it's fairly loud. Absolutely fine for lower gain tones, but late night metal in an apartment will be tough. Secondly, with headphones plugged in, the attenuator (wattage setting) is bypassed, so depending on the headphones high gain tones might deafen you. Thirdly (and this is a very minor nitpick), the Bass and Treble knobs don't have as much range as I'm used to. TLDR: Overall if you're looking for a simple old-school head with a fantastic value, this surely has to be it. All of my (admittedly nitpicky) issues with it can be fixed with an overdrive pedal.
First impression: On unboxing, the T5 did not make a great first impression. I thought it was B stock! It was literally covered in fingerprints! That greasy fingerprint look just doesn’t go well on black and chrome. It also had what looked like a tape glue mark near the logo. I got a good clean with a dry cloth. What a beautiful looking piece of gear this is, a vintage look that is to die for. The Bugera T5 Infinium Tube Amplifier is well built. It is heavy, certainly but well supported by a sturdy leather vintage style handle that makes it super portable. Tall rubber feet gave the T5 plenty of clearance to avoid cab handles. The front panel: The front panel sports a standard input jack socket, 5 Knobs, a “Phat” switch, a jeweled power light and a power switch. There is no “standby” switch. A matching chrome and black Bugera logo fronts the chrome cage. The controls: The Gain control increasingly pushes the amp into saturation as it is rotated clockwise producing a very usable overdrive. The treble and bass controls work as one expects – nothing unexpected there. The reverb was something of a surprise. Sounding rather “springy”, especially when added tastefully. A super reverberant wash is available beyond the 12 O’clock position. The Volume knob, perversely, does not seem to add volume. There is hardly and noticeable difference at all between the 11 o’clock position and when fully clockwise. Where the REAL volume push lies, is with the Phat switch. The Phat switch boosts the volume while bypassing the EQ. It certainly does make a huge difference – when engaged, one never wants to switch it off! The Back Panel: Power is via 3 pin IEC “kettle” plug. Also here are two quarter inch jacks. The first is for a 4 ohm speaker, although this is labeled as a minimum load, you can use 8 or 16 ohm cabs. The second jack is for headphones. Extra points to Bugera for not using a mini jack here! Bugera eliminate bias issues using what they call their “infinium” system. LED indicators show when a tube needs replacing. The T5’s is next to the phones jack socket. Inside: Under the hood things also look great but you will only really get to see this if you are curious or wish to swop out or replace tubes. Removing the cage reveals the transformers, tubes and a screen printed Bugera logo – it’s like an art piece! The tubes are very secure and it takes some determination to remove them – a good thing as secure is better. The inside of a T5 chassis reveals considerable digital circuitry – probably the reverb. Performance: For 5 Watts the T5 is certainly much louder than one expects. If your personal history is primarily solid state amps, this amplifier will be a wake up call as to why guitarists everywhere have refused to abandon tubes for so long. Blues tones from the T5 are beautiful – everything from almost clean to great crunch – everything a blues player looks for. Let down: I REALLY wanted this amp but it was let down by one thing. The amp I was using had an unpleasant "fuzzyness" when trying to get the cleanest possible sound out of it. This "fuzzyness" hung in the dying tail of a note and sounded exactly like a crossover problem in a push pull amp – but this is a Class A amp so how could that be?! When playing power chords it sounded like intermodulation – something didn’t sound right to me. Ironically, "digital noise" in my digital practice amp is WHY I wanted a tube amp in the first place! This was a different type of noise but just as distracting. I had no EL84’s so couldn't test that – but I did have a lower gain 12AU7 tube so was able to swop that with the 12AX7 hoping like crazy that it was a tube issue and that the problem would vanish (because I really DID like this amp) but it did not help. In the end, I reluctantly packed up the T5 and returned it. If you do get a chance, try one, I recommend this simply because if I just got a dud or damaged B stoc

I'm enjoying the Vox VX50 as a practise Amp, it's small, light and quiet but has a nice tone. I can play it anytime without upsetting the neighbours. The only improvement I could suggest is maybe to simplify the controls, bass, mid, treble and volume is enough, spend the extra on speaker quality and power. Overall good though.Jason S.

Great tone, amazing sound, louder than expected, great quality, while being extremely portable! I am 44 years old, and wanted something easier to pack around. I play in two different bands. In one we play bluegrass, with a lot of outdoor fairs and festivals. The other is a gospel group at churches with anywhere from 50-200 people. For bigger churches, I plug into the PA system, but this amp has outperformed and completely exceeded my expectations. I have the MB112 circa 2011, which is exactly the same except mines got the silver metal grille, which I prefer for protection over the cloth front (although I sure like the look of the black grille cloth). Anyway… this amp is the living end. I've gone from shlepping a 68 lb. Kustom KBA100x around (great amp by the way) to this 200 watt 30 lb. dynamo. Where the Kustom has more EQ options and built-in effects (which aren't half bad used in moderation), the GK MB112 has less than half the weight, twice the power and that unmistakable GK tone. I recently played an outside gig with it, and at a little less than 3/4 volume it kept up with the rest of the band playing to around 150 people without going through the PA. Could have gone through the PA with the XLR out on the GK, but didn't need it. Just a few years ago this type of performance was unheard of in this weight class. Plenty of power, great tone and very gig friendly. No more trying to carry heavy bass amps in the dark at 2 AM!
This amp is amazing. I was looking for a lightweight powerhouse, and this it. Definitely loud enough for rehearsals and small to medium gigs. Large gigs need a PA system anyway – I'm glad the days of spine-crunching bass amps just to be heard are behind me. The tones I can dial in with this amp are heaven – clear – and organic sounding (so many bass amps just sound blah and artificial). This amp sounds like an extension of your bass. I purchased This Gnome for my 110 Custom SSB studio cab to help keep the load light, I love it! It has a smaller footprint than my Stomplab2b and has more than enough headroom. The cab is loaded with an eminence b102 8 ohm. So I'm getting about 120watts from it and it's plenty to jam at home with or in a Practice Session/studio time.Isaac
Just been using it in my house. I have a Hardke Hy-Drive 12 inch cab and it sounds great.I have not played with a drummer yet so I cant say how it holds up to gig levels of sound. It feels like it will be fine. I bought it mainly to go direct to computer and to have a small amp for portability. I wish these were available back in the eighties when I turned pro. I can’t say enough positive things about this amp. Starting with the sleek look, the small size of this amp is super convenient. I live in NYC so I travel by foot/train with the amp a lot and it’s nice to not have to lug around a 50 pound amp. The beautiful thing is that no power and no sound is sacrificed by the size of this amp. I play in a technical death metal band tuned to G# and this thing produces those low notes extremely well. After 5 years and hundreds of bar gigs together my trusty Rumble 500 head started acting up. I would turn it on and nothing, unless I popped a string, then it would pop on and pretty much stay on so I still gigged with it but in the world of GAS this is more than enough reason to get a new amp. Am I wrong? So I sold my backup rig which was a 77 Ampeg V4 and set out both TB and YouTube on the dreaded amp comparison ride. At the end, I was about to buy a Mesa Boogie WD-800 but then some reviews of the EBS Reidmar 750 swayed me at the last minute. I ended up returning that amp right away, out of the box the power light worked in the morning trial but was non working at the evening trial. That and I could not get a sound out of it that I liked. It also felt like the master volume pot had an unusual audio taper to it so it was too loud at 2! Also the on board compressor was a bit weak to me. Im sure its a great amp as many have said but not for me. So the search continued and I ended up on an unlikely choice. Unlikely in that if you told me I was going to be all giggly about how awesome my new PEAVEY bass amp was I would have maybe been a little disappointed as I have just a trace amount of brand snobbery. I played through a Demeter prior to the Rumble, Ill have you know! Snort..Snort So I ended up getting the MiniMega. Just from last nights show alone Im sold and in love with this beefy little gem. I went straight from the PO to the gig and just plugged it in, did minimal EQing and loved it from start to finish. The on board compressor works very well and seems to be designed to affect the highs more than the lows which is really nice, seems to be weighted just right for bass. I play American Standard Ps only for the record. Today I played with it at home and its really about perfect for what I do (rock cover bands) and is so flexible I cant imagine a situation where it wouldnt fully deliver. The EQ is super powerful but with the right frequencies so theres a wide variety of GOOD sounds. . Ive had very powerful eqs on amps before but they gave me a huge array of not so great or just so so sounds. Im sure many of you know what Im talking about. The KOSMOS knobs are cool too. The outer is a sub harmonic synth and the inner one I would describe as make my neck sound like a stand up knob. Probably not what Im going to find in the manual if I ever look but thats what it sounds like to me. Very cool indeed. Seriously, I turn the knob and my neck gets extra woody sounding, like an upright. Im not kidding about there being a lot of cool and useful tones in this thing. The extra power over the Rumble 500 was noticeable and nice. Then the guitar player chimed in on the first break, dude, that amp blows your old one away by far! I would highly recommend you try one of these if you are shopping for that perfect all around bass head. You can always return it if you dont like it but youll likely be blown away like me. From the start, the packaging is very attractive when it arrives. Head comes with a hand bag style carrying case, which is a nice bonus. Form factor is nice and compact and weight is at 7-10 lbs at most. This unit is perfect for easy travel. Sound wise, this head is clean and powerful. The lows can be a bit overbearing and when you dial it back to tame, it seems the taper off and thin out a little too soon so it can be hard to dial in the sweet spot at times. I found it best to dial in with the punch button disengaged. If you have a bass with an active EQ, this slight issue can be resolved much more easier. Otherwise, this amp has a wide range of tones and is well worth the price of admission. The Kosmos feature is cool but was not useful for my primary purposes of playing live. It was cool to hook up via D.I. to my interface, jam on my 7" computer monitors and shake the house!Henry

Holy cow, how the Rumble series have come into their own! Back when I last played music the Rumble series was kind of naff but this has really grown up! I'm told the 40w is the lowest power Rumble to get Class D amplification. I don't if that's true or not (Class D is still solid state), but the difference in tone between this and the 10-25w practice amps is remarkable. This one just has that something extra and finally "sounds like a bass" vs smaller amps. And it's not volume, it's tone. I chose this over other amps for the 4 band EQ and having control over the mids; having knobs for low and high mids feels like better tone shaping for my purposes than a mids and a contour knob. YMMV. The only thing I would add to the Rumble 40 would be a built-in tuner. I would rather have a tuner than the rather weak drive Fender included. I would ignore the drive and use a pedal if you want that sound. But that's small potatoes because the clean signal is so, SO good. If you're looking for a home amp, stretch the budget a little and get the Rumble 40; the difference in tone from a 10-25w FAR outpaces the difference in price. This amp is one of the best bargains in bass playing.Eric

Even with these issues, the sounds alone are the selling point of this amp. It's pretty amazing.

This Vox amp is my first introduction into the world of tube amps as they can be quite expensive! The quality for the price is right on point. Living in NYC, I’ve never had the space to keep a large amp in my apartment, so the size in my opinion is just right. This amp can get pretty loud, so don’t let the size fool you. I play guitar for a worship team so I use this both at home for practice and at church for live performances. I usually mic the cab when using it for performances. There aren’t any built in effects, so keep that in mind. From my experience, this amp takes pedals very well. I like the tone of a naturally overdriven amp, so I usually set the gain and volume right below breakup and use my pedals to push the amp. I highly recommend this, especially for being a genuine Vox Tube amp.
…this amp absolutely nails the classic Top Boost overdrive tone, just in a smaller package. I use this amp in church, and it's great in that role because it's loud enough that it allows me to hear what I play without needing a monitor (which reduces overall stage volume). I found the stock speaker to be serviceable, but there's plenty of room in the cabinet for a speaker upgrade, just be sure to do some measurements first. I upgraded to a Celestion G12H30, and due its wide magnet, I had to reposition the output transformer a couple of inches. Depending on how you want to use this amp, I would recommend replacing V1 with a lower gain tube (like a 5751 or 12AU7) if your intent is to turn it into a pedal platform (especially because there is no FX loop). I've also found that cranking the Volume produces a fair amount of gain as well, so if you want to tame the (characteristically VOX) fizz for recording purposes, a lower gain V1 would help in that regard too. If mic'd up with a PA system or paired with a 2×12 cabinet, this amp could easily be used as your #1 gigging amp… but it would probably be more economical just to get a used AC30C2/CC2 or AC15C2 Twin.Gordon
This is a great little amp and has been my main gigging amp for the past couple years. It does a good job at keeping up with my band at smaller venues, but I usually mic it anyways. I would definitely recommend giving it a mic anywhere bigger than a small club, unless you play in a more mellow band. I've always been a fan of smaller, low wattage, tube amps with minimal controls and this definitely fits the bill. I wouldn't really recommend it for bedroom/apartment practicing because it's still pretty loud and it sounds best when you can really push it. It's definitely a very bright amp, maybe a little too bright with some guitars, but there's also mods you can do to it to change that. I plan on changing the speaker someday, just haven't gotten around to it yet and the speaker it comes with is decent enough, just a little stale in my opinion. It's a pretty rugged little amp, it has spent some good miles rattling around in the back of cars/vans/trailers and i haven't had any problems with it. Overall a great amp for anyone looking for a simple, portable, low wattage tube amp that will give them that classic Vox sound at an affordable price!Gandalf

I was a bit skeptical when I purchased but due to all the positive reviews I was swayed. I have had this amp for around a month now and I am amazed at how many different types of sounds I can get out of the EQ section. With the drive you can get massive dirt, crunchy sound, all the way to that "Marcus Miller" type sound. I use a Fender American Deluxe Jazz 5 with this set-up. I have been using this head with a Fender Rumble V3 1x 15 and an Ampeg bxt 4×10. Super warm, round sound all the way to biting rock tones. I also have a Fender Rumble V3 500 watt amp and the quality of this Aguilar is better. I can also get very pleasing sounds out of the Rumble amp as well though. I also play an Eden WT 800 and sometimes it's just to clinical sounding. The Eden is nice but over priced. I think if your budget is limited go for the Fender Rumble V3 500, but if you can pony up more money, go for the Aguilar. My only 2 complaints would be the need to purchase a case separately and the fact that there isn't an aux input. Other than that, I have really taken to the clarity , punch and tone of this little sucker. Mostly I play R & B, funk, gospel, Jazz, and some rock. At first I had trouble finding a way to get "my sound" which tends to lean towards that fat Marcus Miller sound, but I had to learn how to use the EQ a bit. Took some time to figure out but now I LOVE IT! This amp really has tons of power and sounds louder than 500 watts to be sure. I am satisfied with my purchase. If you have never owned a class D amp, I highly suggest paying attention to this review. I bought this amp solely on reviews as none were available in the local GC. If you DO NOT like to FEEL the sound of your bass…then this amp is for you. This amp lacks GIRTH! It is weak and feeble. I bought this amp to take place of my older Ampeg B2R. My ampeg is not even a higher dollar SVT series head…just a B2R and it wipes the floor with this measly class D amp. I highly suggest you not waste your money like I did…..I am extremely disappointed in this amp (It's going back) and the reviews it gets cause these class D amps are weak…go ahead and try one head to head and you will see a BIG difference. I will not sacrifice tone for weight and if you heard them next to each other you would not either. Keep shopping! Better yet, demand companies stop selling these class D junk amps…..the weight is not worth the tone. I now see why so many reviews show little to no EQ adjustment on this amp ( usually reviewing flat)….cause it don't have much to speak of. Little bottom end and lacks high end. The Drive knob goes from not enough to too much …no sweet spot and not very practical sound-wise….just a gimmick in my opinion. Do not let others persuade you into believing this amp or even the 500 watt version is loud because it has NO headroom what-so-ever! Do not get me wrong here…I am not against just Aguilar here…I tried an Ampeg Portaflex 500 watt head and it sounded about the same…weak, with NO Girth!MakroBass

This thing is fantastic. I was in the market for a practice amp, since I didn't want to lug around my bigger rig to and from practice. This beauty, pushing 100 watts, surpassed the sound quality I was hoping for significantly. The only major downside I can find if that it doesn't have it's own Direct Input, which makes it a little difficult to simulate my main tone. It doesn't respond as warmly to my Low-B as much as I'd like. But realistically for the price paid, I can't complain. The tone is as fantastic as anything you'd hear from ampeg. You get an overkill of volume for full band practice and plenty for smaller gigs. A nice plus is the head makes for a great backup in the event that your main rig fails. If you need a loud portable rig for practice or small venues that pushes a good tone, I'd highly recommend weighing in on this.VinnyVee
I was so happy to bring this home and expected it would be the perfect amp. Lightweight and cost effective. Tried it out at GC with my Boss DR 880 drum machine. Both drums & bass sounded very good, so I bought it. When I got it home I expected that my keyboards would be fair to good as well. Wrong, the Casio Cdp 100 was terrible. My Roland FP-5 was better but only about half way there compared to my Roland KC 350 keyboard amp. It was totally my fault to expect my keyboard to sound good on something made for bass. I guess I have learned my lesson. Guitar Center was gracious about taking it back and refunded my money less a small restocking fee because I ordered it rather than taking the floor demo amp. Save your boxes for full refunds.
Overall: When I got this amp I was surprised at how loud it is. I thought 100w wasn’t going to be enough until I read it is 100w RMS… thus meaning it’s actually a 200w peak amp. I run the amp flat, and get the tones I want from my Fender Jazz Active Deluxe with the 3 band eq built in. It’s excellent for getting 70s clean Ampeg bass tone I was looking for through without it costing me my back or too much money. If you’re looking for a versatile amp with modern tech and old school tones, this is it. I run the amp and a DI for church without the cab, but at home I barely have it under “2” for volume. The aux plug is great but a little muddy for songs that have a wide range. It’s very well built and it has some weight to it. Definitely good for gospel, funk, r&b and rock.
