Really great tone. I was worried the 8-inch wouldn't have enough bass, but it's got more than enough for bedroom volume or jamming with a guitarist. I've even used it at practice with my band. My drummer is quieter than most and it was actually able to keep up. Still, I wouldn't get this if you don't have something for practice/shows. But for playing alone or having something easy to bring to a friend's, this is really great.Mason H

Sound: I bought the Ampeg Microvr Head originaly with one Ampeg 2-10" cabinet as a part of matched set, as most people do – about three months a later I bought another cabinet – so now I'm often running two of the same cabinets and the head together. When you plug in the second cabinet the rig gets noticeably louder in this set up, and also appears to have a much more deeper bass tone(if you want it). Adding the second cabinet added $300 to my rig – but if you can afford it, the sound is far superior to just the single cabinet, and gives you a lot of flexiblity. For smaller indoor venues like playing bass behind people with pugged in acoustic guitars, I run the head with just one cabinet and it sounds fine – both tone and volume wise. When I playing along with a drummer most of the time I opt for using two cabinets rather than just one. At higher volumes – like playing with a drummer it just sound stronger and fuller in every respect than by using just the single 2 10" cabinet. I'm either running a recent custom C.F. Martin Acoustic/ Electric Bass guitar, or a Fender Precession Bass, through the rig – depending on who and what I'm playing on music wise. It works excellent with either instrument and I am very happy with the set up. Even with just one cabinet you won't be dissapointed. Features: Happy with everything that it came with feature wise. Didn't like the stock power cord that came with because it was very stiff and hard to wind up – Ampeg should switch vendors and get a power cord supllier that could offer them a more felxible cord of the same quality that you cound wind up easier. Ease of Use: Tone controls are easy to figure out and use. Rear connections on the amp are simple, straight forward and easy to use, and hook things up. I often use a Martin acoustic bass guitar with this rig – so I use a Fishman DI preamp in between my bass and the amp – this being done basically to help control feedback at higher volumes (especially when playing out door gigs) and to fine tune the tone on the acoustic bass a bit more. My Fender bass sounds fine with out the Fishman preamp and the controls on the amp head work well with it – giving you many mutiple tone combinations depending on how you set them. Also my Fender fretless bass sounds really good through the amp and the matched speaker that you will most likely buy with the head. Quality: Quality seems very high. After about two years of owning and active giging – it is holding up extremely well. Over the last year or so I have taken it out on local gigs about twice a week, So it's been out of my house more than a hundred times so far, and there haven't been any issues so far – all this in all kinds of weather and temperatures. I had black vinyl covers made for the head (from a custom amp cover innernet company)and for both speaker cabinets as soon as I bought everything – so even aften trucking the units all over the place for quite awhile now they still all look fresh and brand new. The power cord that came with it was very stiff and always hard to roll up – so I bought an after market cord on a website cord supplier that was more flexible and easier to wind up. I've used the after market power cord every since. The head has a fan in the back that runs whever the unit is powered up, that when you first get the amp drives you crazy – because it appears to sound so loud. Truth is though while you may hear it running in your house when practing – you never do at gigs. At any gig the room and enviroment background noise easily drown it out right away – you just never hear the fan running at all. When I first got it I though something was wrong with the fan – there wasn't. Its an Ampeg thing – that is the low fan noise in a quiet background setting. Keeps everything cool inside the head – so you can certainly live with it. I got used to it after awhile and don't even notice it anymore. No one has ever commented to me anywhere about any fan noise coming from my amp. So don't think something is wrong with the fan when you first get the head. Value: The original outlay (about $600 for the head and one matching cabinet) is a bit steep compared to several other small bass amps on the market out there – but you get what you pay for I guess. Due to the price saddly – alot of bass players might not be able to buy one and will go with something cheaper out there. Before buying this I looked around for about two months at other rigs on the innernet, at music stores, and at othet musicians' bass rigs when watching them perform. This unit was replacing a Hartke Kickback 12 – which I used for about three years for the same type of smaller gigs – which is for more low volume type of dealsthat I play at – where you don't have to worry about shaking the room and making the paint peel of the walls when you hit your low E string on something like Springsteen's "Pink Cadillac". I still feel that I made the correct choice and am happy with the head and the speakers matched for th
Sound: I own the Microvr amp and 2 210svtav cabs. I bought the second cab after I got the Mircovr set up. The sound sound you get from this things for the money blows anything else out their out of the water. To get the rated 200watts performance you need a 2nd cab as the load with one cab is 8 ohms at 150 watts. Light weight portability and small footprint size are a plus especially if your space chanllenged. This thing rocks. Features: This is a no frills set up. Has what you need to have great sound with a headphone jack to play practice in a low noise enviroment. Ease of Use: It has a 3 band eq section that you can dial in easy to find a sound you like. Its no svtpro 7 but for the money you will not find a better amp in its class. Quality: This amp is made solid. Mimics the old school look of the 70s svt lineup. Value: With anything you purchase you wish you could get it for less thats just the way it is. But for the money you will not find a better sounding and well made rig in this class. The Microvr and 210 svtvr cab set up is da bomb. If you want portability light weight and the best sound get this AMPEG. Manufacturer Support: I have had no issues with this amp. I have owned it for about 2 years now and play on it alot. Its an AMPEG. The Wow Factor: This thing looks great sounds great and its and AMPEG. Overall: I will always have this amp. Its perfect for travel to other locations and has enough head room for small venues and recording situations and the sound is truely amazing.

I had a svt 4 pro in the past and don’t need that type of power any more So I got this svt 3 pro and it has the sound I was looking for plenty of power and I can run it straight to the PA with out having to lug around a speaker cab. The sound is great! I would definitely recommend Danny BDanny B
I originally had this SVT 3 Pro amp paired up with the SVT 6×10 HLF cabinet. Quickly I noticed a buzzing in the mid range tones and some of the low tones. I thought the cabinet had a blown speaker or a bad horn, well I was wrong. I brought both units back so the bass tech could figure out what was wrong. After about an hour and a half of pairing other SVT 3 Pros into different cabinets we figured out that the buzz was only present when it was powering a cabinet 600watt RMS and above, which is the 6x10HLf, and the 8x10E, rated at 800watt RMS. The only cabinet that it seemed to power clearly was the 4x10Hlf which is rated at 500watt RMS. Now don't be discouraged, the SVT 3 Pro is a very loud and powerful 450 watt amp. It has clean tone ranging to fit any musical style and hands down the best sounding amp in its class. I still rate this amp 4 stars, it just underpowers anything larger that a 4×10 cab, otherwise, 5 stars.Bassaxe

It'll never fail you Overall: I absolutely love this Amp… The 450 watts is VERY warm and full….Recently did a Sorority party with about 700-800 people in large hotel ballroom with EASE. Didn't even plug into the PA. It was actually too loud. The only complaint I could ever have is that wish it was more than 275 W at 8 ohms maybe 350…but Hey even that is loud and warm as well for a lot of places….I'm completely satisfied with either 8 or 4 ohms ratingEddie

This thing is fantastic. I was in the market for a practice amp, since I didn't want to lug around my bigger rig to and from practice. This beauty, pushing 100 watts, surpassed the sound quality I was hoping for significantly. The only major downside I can find if that it doesn't have it's own Direct Input, which makes it a little difficult to simulate my main tone. It doesn't respond as warmly to my Low-B as much as I'd like. But realistically for the price paid, I can't complain. The tone is as fantastic as anything you'd hear from ampeg. You get an overkill of volume for full band practice and plenty for smaller gigs. A nice plus is the head makes for a great backup in the event that your main rig fails. If you need a loud portable rig for practice or small venues that pushes a good tone, I'd highly recommend weighing in on this.VinnyVee
I was so happy to bring this home and expected it would be the perfect amp. Lightweight and cost effective. Tried it out at GC with my Boss DR 880 drum machine. Both drums & bass sounded very good, so I bought it. When I got it home I expected that my keyboards would be fair to good as well. Wrong, the Casio Cdp 100 was terrible. My Roland FP-5 was better but only about half way there compared to my Roland KC 350 keyboard amp. It was totally my fault to expect my keyboard to sound good on something made for bass. I guess I have learned my lesson. Guitar Center was gracious about taking it back and refunded my money less a small restocking fee because I ordered it rather than taking the floor demo amp. Save your boxes for full refunds.
Overall: When I got this amp I was surprised at how loud it is. I thought 100w wasn’t going to be enough until I read it is 100w RMS… thus meaning it’s actually a 200w peak amp. I run the amp flat, and get the tones I want from my Fender Jazz Active Deluxe with the 3 band eq built in. It’s excellent for getting 70s clean Ampeg bass tone I was looking for through without it costing me my back or too much money. If you’re looking for a versatile amp with modern tech and old school tones, this is it. I run the amp and a DI for church without the cab, but at home I barely have it under “2” for volume. The aux plug is great but a little muddy for songs that have a wide range. It’s very well built and it has some weight to it. Definitely good for gospel, funk, r&b and rock. I recently grew tired of my peavey TNT combo and wanted a bass amp with tubes. After doing a little research, I was almost set on an Orange hybrid of some kind (I forget the exact model but it was a similar power rating and also a tube hybrid). I went to the local guitar center (I can say that here, right? Musician's friend has been owned by the same company for years) to try one out and they didn't have one in stock. I instead tried out a few other hybrid bass heads, all 500-1000 watts, all tube-class D hybrids. This beat out the Markbass head, the GK, and the Hartke I compared it to, all using the same speaker cabs (acoustic 115 and ampeg 410). I admit that I didn't do a side by side against the orange, but I felt the ampeg was so far ahead of the pack and at such a better deal that I didn't need to hear the Orange. This head has a very warm, growling distortion, which is what I was looking for. It also has plenty of headroom as well as a built-in compressor, which cleans up very nicely. It also has, for the most part, very simple and straight-forward controls, which are very responsive and feel solid. I do wish it had more than a 3-band eq though, as my band plays in drop C# or B and it's difficult to cut through the mix on the mids and highs. I suppose the (IMO useless) "mid frequency" switch might remedy that issue, but I preferred to simply add an outboard eq to my effects loop and now it sounds great no matter what key or tuning I'm in. The construction feels sturdy. The rackmount ears hold up just fine and the chassis feels rugged enough. I have read reviews that complain about this model overheating, especially when mounted in a rack case, so I might recommend mounting an extra fan in your case or leaving the space above it empty. There have also been complaints that a design flaw in the circuitry has been blowing out peoples' preamp tubes. I've also heard that Ampeg has corrected the problem on recent models, so I feel good about mine still. I've only owned this unit for a couple weeks and haven't even gigged with it yet, so I don't really have much to say first-hand about reliability. I will say however that I immediately bought a rackmount case for it just in case, as well as a power conditioner. This amp is almost perfect. The mid frequency knob is kind of weird but other than that, it's an incredible piece of gear. 99/100. Heck, 99.9/100. (For those wondering, the speakers I use are an acoustic 115 and an acoustic 810. I use an Art 351 eq in the effects loop and mainline an electro-harmonics bass big muph pi. The SVT pro series seems to me to be an excellent trade off between that classic SVT sound and portability. Due to lockdown I’ve not taken mine out live yet but I have cranked it in my home studio and used it to record and it’s a straight up SVT. You know what you’re getting with those three letters. I’ve read reviews about components cutting out and going silent during shows but I believe that issue was rectified some time ago. I’ve had no issues to note. It’s a lick heavy and less portable than some of its competitors but I wanted an Ampeg and that’s a price I was willing to pay from the start. I recommend mounting it into a rack anyway and that becomes more of a non-issue. TLDR: authentic SVT sound, smaller than a classic, cheaper than a classic, not as light as you’d think.Robert G.
I picked mine up last week and played two weekend shows with it. It has the best sound I have ever heard through any amp. Very versatile. I had been playing through a 600 watt acoustic amp, and there is no comparison in the tone. I am running through a single 8 ohm cabinet with one 15. The reason is because I have heard these amps will flame out, and probably sooner than later. Therefore hopefully cutting the load in half will delay the inevitable. Also, nothing wrong with having plenty of head room. At any rate I got the two year warranty and I have an active bass di for when it happens as it did at a large concert three weeks ago with my Acoustic amp. The di output is awesome. We run a large PA and I play wireless, so I was able to go out front during sound check and feel the thunder. WOW! No more wimpy bass tones as long as this monster holds it together. If you play on a professional level, you will want this amp.

I bought the PF500 with hopes of having a lightweight and powerful gig-ready amp as a replacement for my SVT Classic. After doing a few years of research I had been hearing of all of the issues with the early models of PF500's with their Fault Indicator Light activating, basically making the head unusable. Having a dedication to Ampeg products I had hoped that these issues had been resolved and went ahead with what I felt was a good purchase as I have seen and played through a few different heads of the same model without issue. Unfortunately, right out of the box during my first rehearsal I ran into the known issue and my heart broke immediately, believing that I had received a faulty product. Over the next two weeks I ran my own tests at home without my Ampeg 4X10 HLF and didn't run into the issue again until my next rehearsal when the problems surfaced again. Just this week I brought my entire rig down to my equipment tech's office to try to recreate the issue and find out which piece of equipment was giving the fault, initially believing that it could have been my speaker cabinet. With the PF500 through 4X10 HLF I recreated the issue, so I started to run the PF500 through different cabinets in order to rule out the head. After about 10-15 minutes of playing with gorgeous tone, we felt it was sufficient enough to rule the head out and began taking the cabinet apart to assess the electronics inside. Everything came out smooth, and so I began playing the PF500 through different cabinets again, and after another 20 minutes the head became unplayable due to the Fault Indicator cutting the sound out. I'm devastated because I really wanted to have one of these beauties work long term for me, but I have since returned the product for a more reliable make and model.JP
The PF500 had all of the power, features at the price point that I was looking for. I was also wanting something with the classic Ampeg sound. I read many reviews before purchasing from different sources, but most being at least 3 or more years old. There were some complaints in the past about the fan being excessively loud, others saying it wasn't a problem. I thought since not everyone was complaing and if it was an production issue that it would have been corrected by now so I took a chance. Well the problem is still there. I was so dissapointed when I turned the power on. The amp sounds with the loud fan more like a network server than a bass amp. It was just too annoying. As I said this was a real dissapointed since the amps tone itself sounded great, at least for the one day I owned it. I took it back to Guitar Center and they were great about taking it back, no hassles at all. They gave me a store credit because I still wanted a new head. I went ahead and spent another hundred bucks and ordered a Markbass Little Mark III. Now waiting for it to come in. Ampeg what are you thinking?RonC
Soundwise, the amp does an amazing job for the price. Really portable and light as a feather. BUT the head itself has a fault system to "protect" itself and it just dies on you no matter how you set it up, once you reach a quarter of the full volume or more it enters in this fault state and basically dies there. For what I see, I am not the only one with this problem. I tried everything, spent 500+ getting it fixed, the problem remained. Ampeg customer service is horrible, do not buy this. Simple.Yash

I sampled this amp in the fall with a back to back gigging weekend. Simple setup. Plug in and go. Classic tone and plenty of headroom. For the first time ever I got reviews from 2 different sound guys that my tone was awesome. The 2nd one even told me not to to return the amp! I was heartbroken to let it go, but I pulled the trigger and got one of my own! Extremely happy and well worth the wait.
I'm not a gigging musician so I'm not worried about volume. I do a lot of home recording and my main concern is tone and recording ability. I really love what this amp can do. I have it paired with a pf210HE and can mic it and use the pre amp out but the transformer out is where it gets the 5 stars!! I also have a Fender rumble and a Hartke HD75 and this amp is the best for what I need. If you're a home or studio recording musician I don't think that you would be disappointed with this amp. Oh and you can get a really nice tone when you turn the volume down and the gain up and you still want piss off everyone in the house. I choose the 50watt for the extra EQ but if you're running a pedal that has an EQ section you probably can get by with the 20w.Carroll

I have wanted an ampeg svt for a long time..I threw down and got one (traded in a 300 watt fender head..older solid state model)..I have it rack mounted..in the rack with it..I have a tech 21 rpm preamp..a korg tuner..and a livewire power conditioner/surge suppressor..and a line 6 relay G90 wireless system..needless to say..this is the king kong of bass systems..I am playing through 2 svt 4×10 hlf cabinets (4 ohm cabinets)..I am running the system dual mono..1250 watts (2 x 625 watts @ 4 ohms)..what a sound..!!..and so much head room..everyone really likes my rig..its the monster on stage when it shows up..the other bass players jaws drop when they hear and see this rig..I should charge admission just to look at it..ha..ha..!!..I am so pleased with the entire setup..thank you ampeg..Herb Knee

Really great tone. I was worried the 8-inch wouldn't have enough bass, but it's got more than enough for bedroom volume or jamming with a guitarist. I've even used it at practice with my band. My drummer is quieter than most and it was actually able to keep up. Still, I wouldn't get this if you don't have something for practice/shows. But for playing alone or having something easy to bring to a friend's, this is really great.Mason H

Very hard year to find, lots of later years on the market for sale but the 1st year is truly hard to come by. The 6146b tubes used in the first run of amps sound warmer to me then the subsequent 6550 tubes used in later production years. This early run of SVT's stands the test of time, nothing built like them on the market today.bigroy56
WOW! That about sums up my thoughts and feelings about this wonderful head. I first played this head (original 70s Blue Line) at a gig, the whole "using someone elses equipment thing"… you know how that goes. I was a little worried about this monster. It sounded great. I had never heard my bass sound so good, even with the EMGhz pickups and Aguliar OBP3. I had to get one. I have used (and own) SWR, Carvin BX1200, Kustom, and Hartke. I liked the SWR sound, but it seemed to be missing something. I like the power of the Carvin BX1200, but it was missing something… same with the Hartke and Kustom. Well, I have to say… everything that was missing I finally found with my Ampeg SVT-VR head. I plugged it in and set everything to flat. I run it through my Ampeg 8×10 cab. Now I know what bass is supposed to sound like. I realize this head is very expensive, but hey… if it was any cheaper then EVERYONE would own it! After using the SVT-3PRO for a few years, I decided to step up to the big leagues & purchase my first all-tube Ampeg. Nothing beats the pure, meaty tone that this head, coupled with an Ampeg 410-HLF cab, provides.BUT!!!! Buyer beware! The Tubes are made overseas and are very very low quality. I have had mine for almost 2 years, and they just crapped out finally. The buyer guide recommends you retubing your amp every year, but if you get it done by someone who really knows what they're doing, you can get away with every two years. Back in the day I played through a 90's Ampeg SVT-2 with an 8×10 cab and have always loved that Ampeg tone. A year ago I got back into music and purchased the V4B and the matching SVT 2×12 cab. I love both the tone and portability. While the V4B is obviously not the same, it's every bit as versatile and sounds great at low volumes while keeping the hum almost non-existant. Whether playing through a RIC 4003 or a P-bass, I can get booming lows, mid range grind grind, and/or clear cutting highs. The build quality is great and the price reasonable. My only complaint is at $1200, I wish it would have shipped with an amp cover. I was able to buy one separately…but it would have been nice not to.Chris
Without a doubt it is the most fun in an amp I have ever had! I've gone through them all: 60's Bassman, Marshall MKII Super Bass, Gallien Kreuger and an Ampeg B15 – the V4b has the power of the Marshall and the tone shaping of the GK in one amp. I prefer the crunch (grit) of the V4B to my old Marshall (which was an unreliable, noisy one trick amp). The V4B's tonal variations are really impressive. All in all this is my favorite amp in a long succession of amps.GORGO
Played SVT’s for years, until I finally decided the weight was enough. So for the past 10 years it’s been lightweight class d amps to save my back. Got to play one of these in a medium 450 seat club through a 6×10. Boom?? I was blown away. Got home after the tour and ordered one of these and cannot say how impressed I am by the sure volume you get out of 100 watts, and of course the classic AMPEG tone. Thanks Ampeg and American Music for making the transaction a breeze.

I went through two of these things. First one had a loose screw floating around inside the chassis and the fan wasn't plugged in. Called Ampeg and they told me to return it. The second one also had loose screws and washers inside the bag. I put them back but there was screeching and bursts of static with a terrible hum. Absolutely unusable.Chris

I bought this amp to use for practice at home, and to do some recording into an audio interface. To my surprise this amp gets quite loud, I suspect it will hold its own in a jam session or even a small gig. Tone on both the clean channel and with SGT engaged is excellent, SGT level goes from very low (slightly dirty, warmer tone) all the way up to full distortion – can't wait to play a rock solo with this.Isaac D
This is a great little combo at a terrific price! It gets quite loud without unintentional distortion, the SGT gives a nice, warm distortion effect, and the features include a balanced XLR output (for easy connection to a mixing board), plus 1/8" headphone output and aux input, so you can play along with music in your headphones and not disturb others. It's solidly built, but still very lightweight.Darren S.
This is a great practice and small gigging amp for the price range. Built well as only to be expected by Ampeg. To be honest though, I think my Fender Rumble 40 has better tone with same size speaker and lighter in weight for a lesser price. I love the option of having both amps because I keep one at church and one in the spare bedroom for private quiet practice as both have that feature..not to take away from this Ampeg at all, I love the looks of the checkered tolex and color better than the silvery Fender grill. Another Great amp added to my other two Ampeg, Hartke and Fender rigs.ampfreak-m.r.
