Long Neck Acoustic Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

This 79 buck guitar was the biggest surprise ever! I really didn't expect much, and was having second thoughts after I placed the order. I bought the sunburst version on a SDOTD as a total impulse buy. I have several expensive acoustics, and I don't need a cheap guitar. But I have to say, this is a really nice instrument. The fit and finish is above average, with relatively smooth fret ends and a huge sound. The tuners, however inexpensive, work as intended and stay in tune. The sunburst finish is lovely, with only one small thumbnail scratch. The neck joint is well done, and the neck has a comfortable full feeling. Epiphone has improved the "E" symbol on the pickguard, it is made into the plastic, and not glued on and wanting to fall off like on the older Epiphones. The rosette appears to be painted on, but it looks good regardless. The bridge (rosewood) is solidly attached to the top, with no lifting or gaps. The body has a white plastic binding front and back that is well executed. The rosewood fretboard is attractive with nice grain. And the sound! This guitar has a huge, loud sound for a laminate guitar. Tomorrow I plan to replace the original strings with some quality mediums, which can only make it sound even better. One odd feature is a false truss rod cover, held in place with three wood screws. There is nothing under it! The access to the truss rod is inside the sound hole. I did have to remove some glue from around the truss rod adjusting nut inside the guitar. Quite frankly, the quality and sound of the Epiphone just blows me away! If I had to sell all of my other acoustics and only keep this one, I would be content. It's that good!JimmyJ

I bought this guitar to check out a budget friendly offering from Yamaha. I have to say I was not disappointed! Excellent tone and volume, the top really resonates. The guitar was really well setup right out of the box. It needed about 3/4 of a clockwise truss rod adjustment, no prob. Other than that it didn't need any fret dressing whatsoever. That's really impressive for a Chinese guitar. Heck even one of my Mexican Martins needed fret dressing out of the box! Also intonation was spot on and this also is important in your guitar. Very impressed with this guitar, intermediate/advanced feel but priced at a beginner budget. You won't regret picking one up, I assure you!Big Bone Murphy

There is a point of quality when an instrument reaches when it stops being seen as "better or worse" but rather just a different flavor. This Yamaha has reached that point. You can play it alongside a guitar costing 5x more and it stands up well. Yamaha is also one of those rare companies with a long history of top quality across all kinds of products, and guitars are an area Yamaha knows well. This is just a beautiful guitar through and throughout. You can get beautiful uncompromisingly great studio recordings with this guitar. Hitting the low strings hard with strumming gives a nice deep and rich tone. Also, the hardware / tuners are nice.Scott

I've owned many acoustics over the years, MANY, and this Yamaha is one of the best sounding I've ever owned. Went to GC just to check out a few lower end acoustics to pick up for jamming on, and tried almost every one in the room. Picked this one up last just before I was ready to leave, and immediately was blown away by the sound and playability, brought a couple friends to listen and tell me which one they thought sounded the best, and hands down this won over all of them. It has the tone and warmth of a Martin D34, which I have owned a few, and it plays like a dream. The neck is so sliky smooth, easy to fly up and down with no effort. It has amazing sustain and beautiful tone, I fell in love with it and just couldn't put it down. I didn't expect a guitar of this price range to sound as good as it does, got it home and I couldn't put it down. Played for 4 hours straight, and even after trying to put it down to go to bed at 1am I found myself playing a for a few more minutes before I could actually go to sleep. Love this Yamaha more than any guitar I've bought in the last decade. The best thing about it is, It gave me the desire to pick up playing guitar again, after hardly touching any of my other guitars for almost a year it's the one I want to play more than all of them. I purchase this guitar last week Monday and it arrived on Friday. This was an upgrade from my Yamaha FG800 and I must say that as much as I have loved my FG800 the FG830 just blows it away.

I have owned a Martin, Fender, Taylor and Teton. Of all my guitars I have fallen hard for the Yamaha Brand. The FG830 is very easy to play and sounds great right out of the box. The action is lower than the FG800 and the sound is amazing.

I was familiar with the Yamaha FG730 and its' favorable reviews as an excellent value solid top guitar. I also tried out an FG730 at a local retailer and found it to be comfortable to play, with a decent and full acoustic tone. I would have purchased the FG730 had I not read about the newly released FG830 … similar in design to the FG730 with the added enhancement of scalloped bracing. I decided to order an FG830, based on what I believed would be an improved tone versus the FG 730 (enhanced bass). My instincts were good. The tone and playability of this guitar exceeded my expectations, and I find myself picking this guitar quite often to play and practice, in spite of having several Martin and Taylor guitars on hand in their cases. The Yamaha doesn't sound or play as well as those other higher end acoustics, but I am pleasantly satisfied overall. This is an excellent beginner's guitar, and not so bad as a backup guitar in a crunch.karby55

The instrument is everything I hoped for. I did break one key string during my first tuning so must learn a new way of mounting strings. I suspect I will need extras of this particular string–the wrapped one. Very much looking forward to playing enchanting traditional turkish music on this saz. This was a good value as a first guitar (with cutaway) for a beginner. Had some difficulty with pressure needed to form chords properly. Took back to GC to see if action needed adjustment. Recommendation was to leave it as is just change to a lighter set of strings. This made considerable difference until I was finally able to toughen up the fingertips after a couple of weeks. I have purchased this guitar about 6 weeks ago, and I am someone who likes to strum almost every day. Within the 6 weeks time frame after replacing the strings with proper bronze acoustics from Dadario, I started to feel and see the changes on the guitar. It is extremely prone to bending and warping on the neck. The Nut also feels very cheep so the strings are carving in a lot faster than they should. I have been modifying the height of the strings (this would be the 5th time in 6 weeks) to a point where my E string is pretty much contacting all frets…. If you are not familiar with readjusting the height of the strings in any shape or form, stay away from this guitar because you will have to throw it out by the second realignment (at a standard store a realignment will cost you around $70-80…)U Can

I swapped a cousin Electric Acoustic Fender that was about $300w/hard-shell case for him to buy me this Jasmine on special sale in 2012, for $99. "Ramona" went through me learning to play; my bf passed away 5 days after I got her on June 4, 2012, and he was impressed with her sound and he was 35 ahead of me playing guitar VERY well; so I grieved 4 years & just never put Ramona down. For the first 5 years she was played 5+ hours a day, she slept next to me in bed. I had already played piano so I taught myself my basic open chords then learned from friends along the way. I already ordered Gotoh locking tuners, a rosewood nut and saddle, strap lock set, yes it will fall off on stage as most do, and this one doesn't have the nut for a strap, you tie it around the neck area and in my opinion that's unnecessary strain on the neck. I use D'Addario custom light phosphorus bronze strings; I love the warm sound they add and I can get a month out of them, two if I'm not playing out. I even use a glass slide and tune to open D, hence the locking tuners. It comes stock with "pro-Line" tuners and sorry but those are cheaply made. My beloved Ramona stayed in tune with the pro-lines 18 months then they started breaking. I bought a set of hand-made lifetime guaranteed 5 wood picks because wood sounds better, to me. I bought a wood pin set too. I have a brass pin set on my more twangy sounding guitar. I wasn't able to get that perfect pitch out of every fret down the neck but you're not going to unless you spend some $! I hope to consider a Taylor. I finger-pick and I know the specs say thin neck but I disagree. I bought a Dean and a Yamaha; strings too close.I learned that fancy inlay along the neck screws up my dots. This will be my first time switching the rosewood nut and saddle but I'm confident it will sound even better. A little sanding and your $100 axe is $400 with not much time; just about $100 in parts.I did have to drill my tuner holes bigger last time but it went smooth.Amanita Bella Dreams

This is my Long Term Review. I have had this guitar for a bit over two years now and can give a more complete picture of it. First, the good. This is a very well made guitar. Under the pros, you will notice I mentioned Good Construction. This is particularly important in a 12 string. The biggest issue with all 12's is that they tend to come apart very quickly. You will have bowing, warping, separation of glueing, etc. All this is because of the tremendous extra pressure 12's suffer. After 2+ years, this guitar is still solid as a rock, and I leave it strung all the time. So I would say construction and bracing are very good on this instrument. Along with this is the fact that it Stays In Tune. This is another major issue with all 12's. Again, that extra force tends to make them go out of tune quickly. This one holds tune very well, and that is important as tuning a 12 takes some time. As for sound, I would say Not too Bad overall, and Really Good for an budget level guitar. It is a little thin for my taste, but there are ways around that. First, throw on a set of decent strings. I prefer Martin Marquise on mine, but personal choice. Second, I like to play through an acoustic amp, and I put a Seymour Ducan Woody on mine. When adjusted correctly, I can get a really decent, full bass sound, lots of body and still keep a nice jangle expected from a 12. Will it sound like a Martin or Gibson, no, but it gives a really nice sound for such a low price. As for the negatives, very few. First, keep in mind when Epiphone says "Select Spruce Top," they really mean laminated, not solid. But I suppose there varying qualities of laminated woods as well, and this one is great – really good resonance and sustain. It could maybe do with a better set of tuners, but as said before, it holds tune exceptionally well. Overall, for the price, Epiphone makes a really nice and playable guitar. Now am just praying they come out with a Masterbilt version of it.kdw

I was pleasantly surprised at the quality of this value brand guitar. The action was actually low and playable after tuning it out of the box. I was wanting to try my hand at a 12 string and found some used ones for more money that were basically unplayable. Then I found this new Oscar Schmidt on e-bay, and figured for the money, it's better than paying double for an unplayable wooden box. I will detension the strings for when I store it so it doesn't bow the sound board.willi-tiso

The bridge saddle, super Treble Saddle, guitarneck nut, and super treble nut are made of to soft of a material. No amplification for Bass or Super Treble. The fret job was superb, as well as the action. The finish of the fingerboard was very nice but not oiled a good coat of lemoil did wonders. The strings were horribly oxidized with black spots and pitting, very bad for a new instrument. Over all nice for the price. Also no tuner for the Super Trebles.jstmsnu123

Needs complete setup. Only After adjusting the neck. lowering the saddle and after removing the nut and properly seating it was it playable. It now plays reasonably well and I can enjoy it. It is a fine looking instrument. I would recommend it only to those who can do the setup process themselves or are willing to pay a tech to do it for them.bobcat420_0

Open Box / Blemish – still can't find any blemish, maybe two tiny smudges on the back of the body, but with the satin finish they're hard to spot. The NEX body is comfortable and it really projects the sound. The action was way too high, even for a factory setup. But it was easy to get it lower and lock in the harmonics.Mike

The Takamine GN20 is a great guitar. The natural wood matte finish is handsome. It's a baby jumbo that gives you full quality projection, with beautifully balanced tone. The cedar top and mahagony back and sides provide a depth of tone, that makes the instrument sound wonderful in performance. Your hand fits easily around the slim neck and makes playing a real pleasure. To me, it feels like a vintage Ovation guitar. I've had mine for two years, and perform with it on weekends on a regular basis. It still looks like new. The price was easy to handle. Wait for the sale price, then buy this guitar. Bought this over Black Friday sale, and loved it from the second I played it. This instrument has all the warmth, resonance, and sustain you'd expect from a solid cedar top, but doesn't sound dull or dark like other cedar top guitars commanding twice the price. The neck is comfortable with terrific action right out of the box, and the zebrawood back and sides are also particularly attractive. My ONLY gripes with this model is the sharp fret edges (requiring a fret and dress from the start), and the oddball 49mm neck width. Seriously, why make a phenomenal guitar, only to ruin it by not sticking to the standard 50mm classical, OR a 48mm fusion widths? Not only are a replacement nut and saddle hard to find, but this 1mm difference makes it really hard to smoothly go between my Cordoba C5-CE and this without an annoying adjustment period.Steve

This guitar is absolutely beautiful! Exceptionally so–however, it is not a thin line as I believed it was so I had to return it and was met with marvelously willing and helpful assistance in our local store. I chose another guitar which was advertised as a thin-line guitar (same brand) and got it home only to find it is not thin-line as described; therefore, I have another trip back to return again and hope they do not lose patience with me. I think the incorrect description is probably from the manufacturer rather than Guitar Center so I would just say be careful with the descriptions, although I do not know of anything to be done about this except to go to another brand.Betsy

I didn't have high hopes for a guitar in this price point, but it has had rave reviews so I ordered one. When I unboxed it after about 5 hours, the very first thing that I noticed was the build quality. The neck set is absolutely perfect and the guitar is very nicely playable right out of the box. The finish on this guitar is superb. It is a Plain Jane but it's pleasing to the eye as a solid, well built guitar. It tuned up well and I played a couple of sets on it, and after one retune, it sang out quite nicely. The only change I will make to this guitar is changing the nut and the bridge to bone, since the plastic polymer just doesn't sustain like this guitar is capable of doing. The additional 50 dollar investment is well worth it, I would be comfortable playing this guitar anywhere, it's well worth the money, and it's easy to see why the reviews have been so good on it.Taylor W.

I’m impressed by the build and sound quality of this acoustic guitar! Easy to tune and play. I used to play on a Taylor GS mini (Koa) but couldn’t bring it with me when I moved to the UK. I was thinking about buying the same model here but they’re quite expensive and paying for international shipping to bring mine from my home country wouldn’t be cheaper as well. This Yamaha instrument is well made. Especially for the price point of just under $200.00. I have purchased many Yamaha acoustics over the years and this guitar will not disappoint. No cosmetic flaws on this instrument, with a nice finish and worth checking out. I have been playing for over 40 years and am now retired, and I rate this guitar at 9.5 out of ten. Perfect for my finger style playing. Very full sounding board and visually appealing. Truss adjustment was made to tighten the action a bit to my personal preferred. The frets could use some polishing, as do most of acoustics at this price. I had purchased an identical instrument not too long ago and it also was a gem right out of the box, and decided to keep only one. Very comparable to an Ibanez Artwood instrument. OK, I got mine 5 or 6 years ago, because my arthritis was making steel string acoustics too difficult. The slightly wider neck and nylon strings have extended my career. I use it two ways, first, it's great for solo work, fingerstyle. I also play it with a pick, for jazzy and Willie Nelson country style. There's little feedback at normal volume, and it has a great tone. Just played out with it, and got many compliments on the sound.TGB

The picture on the AMS website doesn’t do the guitar justice, as it’s much more beautiful than that! The tuners are typical Godin proprietary, as they look good, and are smooth and stable in operation. I play with many alternative tunings, and am very happy with their smooth use. When running straight through my Roland Jazz Chorus 40, I can get any sound I expect from it. Hopefully, I’ll be able to get a GR-55 soon to experiment with all the synth sounds! With the exception of the heavy total weight, this guitar is perfect for my use.John K.

I've been Jonesin' for a nylon string guitar to add to my arsenal. I tried several, but the thing that I kept coming back to was the intonation issues inherent in a traditional design. So, I started looking for a nylon string that had different compensation on the saddle pieces. I came across this Godin, and since I already have two 13-pin synth access guitars, this seemed like a perfect match. When it arrived, I was surprised to find that it's actually a solid body guitar with some chambering. I mean, I knew it was a slim body, but I thought it was a slim hollow body. In retrospect, this has some advantages and some disadvantages… First of all, this is NOT the guitar that you're going to grab to sit around the campfire with your friends. It's as loud as a normal electric guitar that's not plugged in. The advantage, of course, is that you can jack this up as loud as you please in performance without worrying about body howl type feedback.Doug

An absolutely beautiful instrument, this is my second SA360 and although they are no longer. Made in Japan, be assured they have not lost any of the build quality or attention to detail. The guitar was really well set up, is great to play, feels good in the hand and sounds the bee’s knee’s. If you are looking to start out in guitar playing get yourself an Ibanez Gio to start as a first upgrade from that, then the SA series is where you want to be at.Timbo

There are hundreds of reviews on this guitar, of course some good and some bad. The good reviews (4-5 stars) far out number the rest. Although I’ve read some really, really bad ones. I suppose every guitar maker churns out a turd on occasion when mass producing affordable beginner (read inexpensive) guitars.
I can only tell you about my particular guitar.
It is fantastic, it’s beautiful, sounds amazing (plugged in and acoustic), plays amazingly well, stays in tune, the tuners are smooth and work as you would expect on a much more expensive guitar. The neck is perfect, the action is great (Martin MA540 Authentic Acoustic Light strings 0.054-0.012). I haven’t a single complaint I can’t say whether the quality has gone up or down in the last few years. Mine is an earlier production model about 10 years old. They’re relatively common , You can find a nice used one locally in most cities for under $150. That way you can play and give it a thorough inspection before you buy it. Check your local Guitar Center, try it, return it if you don’t like it, my bet is you will love it.Larry Daniels

I usually don't leave negative reviews. This guitar is beautiful, it sounds amazing. However, I just can't believe that guitar center would let this be shipped. The neck seems fine but every fret divider is razor sharp. It's so uncomfortable that I have quit playing it. Living in a small town it's very expensive to return stuff, so I guess it will just sit for now. To guitar centers credit, I have shopped there for many years and never been disappointed. But gee guys, why wouldn't you be checking this stuff? If I picked it off your wall I would never buy it unless you fixed it for me. Sorry but this sucksJohn

Tried out two of these at the local store looking for a first guitar for my son. Both sounded pretty good for the price point, but both had problems with the neck and really terrible frets. Terrible like not safe for children or unsuspecting adults – they both had sharp edges sticking out the whole length of the neck. Between that, some minor string buzz, a crazy high 9th fret on one, and iffy intonation on the other, it just didn't seem worth getting either of them. What's the point of getting a low priced guitar if you have to spend $100+ getting it worked over to make it playable? I suspect that the neck binding makes it difficult for the factory to really get the frets properly dressed and still pass cosmetic inspection. It may be I just had the bad luck to find the two worst examples of this model in the same store, but I suggest you move up notch in price range and you will be happier with what you get.triple.ratrider

First off, while chatting live with the agent, I was offered the guitar for $40 less than the advertised price. Great bonus. Then I got fast free shipping on a guitar that was basically set up to play out of the factory sealed box. Other stores, Like the Guitar Center conglomerate, send you guitars that have been hanging on their wall. I own Martin, Gibson, Fender and several vintage imports from the 60’s and 70’s. I wanted another acoustic to write songs with, play outdoors and just beat on in general, saving the frets on my higher end guitars. So I didn’t want to spend much. I picked this guitar first and formally by the specs rather than by reviews. Out of the box this guitar looks beautiful. I removed the “E” immediately with no trouble without any adhesive sticking to the pick guard. This made the guitar look much better IMHO. My guitar sounded great to me the second I started getting it tuned to pitch. Plays very easy, zero fret buzz and spot on intonation. The sound of this guitar is somewhat unique and I believe it will open up and resonate more soon since the woods used seem very decent. You can’t go wrong for the price. Mine was the sunburst by the way. I own higher end guitars like I said, so I don’t want to compare this to those, but my friend has one of those Martin imports that are “cheaper” like $799ish and this Epiphone guitar is better.Mountain Rock

This is an excellent guitar even for twice the price IMO if you’re looking for a song writing guitar this a perfect choice . It sounds well balanced sustains well is loud and has some gutsy low end and clear treble side overall excellent playability and value. Mine made in Indonesia is exceptional in its finish which is a rival to way more expensive guitars. I decided to wait until the honeymoon period was over (4 mos) to write a review. I've now come to the realization that it's not going to end. I've been playing for about 50 years, and over the past 10 or so have thoroughly enjoyed splitting time between my Taylor and Washburn. No more! This Martin is easily the most amazing guitar I've ever played. The combination of sound, size, and playability make it very hard to put down. I have been wanting this model for a few years. I knew what I wanted from playing these in stores. I finally bought one from MF. When it arrived I unboxed it and opened the case. Wow these are beautiful guitars. As soon as I started playing I was disappointed. The guitar did not sound like the ones I had played in stores. This on had a muddy small sound. This is not what I expect from spruce and rosewood. Now I am out the shipping cost to return the item. I think I learned a few good lessons here. Always play the guitar you are buying in person. At first I was going to say it's a great guitar for the price, but that really doesn't do this thing justice. It's just a great guitar. It has a great sound, it feels good in your hands, it's easy to hold and to play. I can't fault this guitar at all. The action was a bit high out of the box, but the tech at Guitar Center gave it a great set-up and now it's very easy to play. There is a place in my project studio for FS800: 48 years ago I sold Yamaha Guitars and found them excellent. When the group "America" presented a acoustic sound (Horse with No Name; Ventura Highway; Tin Man . . . et al) the solid rhythms of Yamaha solid top guitars proved Ideal. Through the years I have experimented with various genres as a singer songwriter; now a days I have returned to folk and "heavy on" acoustic guitar sounds. To complement my more expensive guitars I needed something that could deliver the solid rhythms I fondly recall. Now the Yamaha FS800 excels for finger styles as well: I layer tracks this guitar is a breeze to play and its character naturally stands out in the mix. Perfect couch and campfire guitar. Sustains and project very well with a surprisingly round warm sound. Gorgeous burst finish much nicer in person. String spacing is slightly narrower than standard, make note. Bridge saddle needed to be shaved down for lower action. Neck and frets were perfect otherwise. Tuning very stable. A set of 11-52 will be next string change. Love playing this thing, and exploring alternate tunings! It seems Yamaha's reputation is true.Greg

After allowing the guitar few weeks to adjust and giving it a good set up including new strings and a neck adjustment (tightening the rod), Conditioning the fret board and a good polish, The guitar is easy to play and has great sound for an inexpensive guitar. I like the So Cal green color others may not as it is a vintage vibe. Tuners are price point but even price point tuners these days are decent. A little sticking from the nut, I think I can lightly file that out and add some nut sauce. The fret ends were not too sharp but I conditioned them to a nice smooth finish useing 500 grit sponge. Very little cost to make improvements and the guitar is fun to play. The sustain is probably the biggest suprise and I am satified to practice with this guitar every day. Very pleased for the cost. This guitar has a decent sound for the price. A good starter guitar for someone who hasn't played in a long time. The first unit I was sent had a small issue. The looks of the instrument are gorgeous. When I was buying there were very few reviews for this instrument on internet. I took a leap…. This guitar will not give you real classical sound unplugged. When you plug it in you can play with the sound settings depending on what you have available. I play classical guitar in an ensamble and can add some reverb and even a bit chorus. Being a classical musician I wanted depth and warmth, so you need a good EQ. I use just a bit of piezo and a lot of inside mic but right off the bet with such set up you have feedback issues with volume on the guitar all the way down. So there is the need for anti feedback feature. During live concert I had no choice but to bring the Low frequency down and it was very uncomfortable. The guitar is hot. Despite all of it I like the guitar and I suspect there is a lot of potential with this instrument. When you finally set the sound to your liking it's very rewarding! This combo of under the bridge Pic up and inside mic gives you a lot of room to explore the sound. I took the guitar to my Luther to try to eliminate some bazz especially on 4th string, he was able to somewhat do it via bridge and he said that the freeboard is done quite good and does not need adjustment. I like the playability as well. I have another Yamaha trans acoustic that is absolutely amazing and deep but wanted to expand the range of sound variations. My first guitar was a nylon-string classical guitar made in Spain. The neck was wide as expected, but that wasn't an issue for me when I was 11 years old. However, this guitar's neck is thinner and that's one of the reasons I went with this model. The action is also low right out of the box which I like. It is a joy to play. The sound when unplugged it's good, but the guitar really comes alive when using an amplifier. The built quality is great. And the case that comes with it is very, very good as well. If you want that nylon-string guitar sound with a friendly neck profile and low action, then this is a great choice.Carlos

Excellent instrument . It takes a while to get used again to a wide fingerboard but very good for finger style. I particularly liked the strap button near the heel and first class protective gigbag.. Very good tone and upper sring accessibility with cutaway. Refined appearance and a relief that batteries are easy to fit.John C.
