I use the volume pedal in my signal chain almost more than the volume knob on my guitar. You can move it around from the effects loop or in front of the amp if your not getting the desired response. Dunlop makes a robust, durable and very responsive volume pedal. The only thing is that it looks exactly like my Dunlop Cry Baby Wah pedal.Chris
When I was a kid, I did not understand subtlety and tonal quality…whatever solid state amp and distortion/chorus set-up I could find was great…this pedal would have bored me to death. What little did I understand…the tone is just full and lush, like increasing your font from 10 to 12. There is a large amount of headroom for a 9v, very usable. The overdrive is very tasty once rolled on. It responds in such a transparent way (I played a clean sample loop through it so I could focus on what the controls actually do). I have a strong preference for a high degree of sag, but it would be usable in other ways, too. Combined with a good compressor and an eq, I have a newfound love of playing…lifelong humbucker/P90 fan and now I am just in love with the clarity and dynamic expression possible with a rich single coil on my strats and teles. It is worth money to make it fun; this pedal definitely makes playing fun for me.coopermatman

I am into classic rock, pop rock and blues, however, in my youth I was totally into Metal (i.e. Judas Priest, Black Sabbath, Scorpions, Iron Maiden) lately I've been having the urge to play some heavy metal tunes I played when I was young, so I decided to purchase a metal distortion pedal for my smaller rigs around the house, I have many overdrives and distortion pedals but other than some of my amps at high volumes I had nothing good for heavy metal at acceptable volume levels. I came across this little Rage, I was not familiar with Mooer, and thought I will give one a try..in the 12 O'clock or greater setting the Rage has outclassed them in the tone department, there is not nasally/tin type noise which the others had, for the price of the Rage I was fully intending to return it thinking I would get the same results, the eq is very responsive and with the gain at noon or higher the pedal cleans up very well. Anyway, money well spent, I have been playing songs I haven't played in years due to not getting a acceptable tone at lower volumes. I was willing to pay much more money for what I was looking for, this little gem flipped the bill at a low cost.themanfromalabam
I have limited experience with compressors but I really like this pedal. I found my boss compressor pedal coloured the sound too much (too thin) and my JOYO dyna compressor far too subtle (and the attack knob seemed to be totally ineffectual). But the Mooer pedal is great – you can really hear the compression working, it is quite transparent as has been suggested in reviews and the tone knob gives a good range from bass to treble. It's small size makes it a bit difficult to affix to my pedal board – not much surface area to apply the Velcro to – but this is only a small niggle (it is a small pedal after all!). At the price I definitely recommend this pedal.Alan
This is my 1st Mooer – so I'm always a bit cautious when I'm laying bread down on a new manufacturer product – it was on Stupid Deal & I was in need of a heavier distortion as all in my arsenal (until this pedal) are "cleaner" types. I must to have pedal for rhythm guitar players. Very fat an saturated sound, perfect for riffs. I use with a vintage style Ibanez trough an clean tube amp channel, and it is amazing. The tubes are roaring with this pedal. I think it best suits for semi-hollow, vintage instruments with warm sound, cause combined with the Muff you will get a fat but enjoyable sound,. but with very a clean and bright instruments it will be more like harsh. The size is much more pleasant than the original Big Muff and its still massive. The tone on/off switch is a good feature, cause when you have your own EQ settings most of the time you dont want to mess it up with your pedals, but if you want, its still an option. Also, I recognized when its the tone off, you get more gain and headroom. The tone wicker give you more high-mids/presence. Useful when play muffed solos and you go higher in the fretboard.
Can't say much that hasn't been said already. What I can say after using this pedal for a year is that it is the best bigmuff out there. It's all about the tone wicker. To me it's like a vintage bigmuff switch. you flip it and holy dancing cows instant grit and velcro-like-texture fuzziness. you combo this with the right tube amp and Wallah! Siamese Dream tone. Cool thing is, costs much much less what you'd pay for a vintage (banged-unreliable-overpriced-oversized) V4-V5 bigmuff. Careful with the tonebypass, the thing is a 30db volume boost. good for saturated tubes I guess. in my opinion, it's as useless as it was 30 years ago in the V3 or V5 pedals. it does sement this version as a definitive throwback. both switches are there for a reason, EHX knew it, I know it and now you know it. (funny story: Musiciansfriend sensors the word MxUxFxF. cannot use it in the review or tags, yeah, it's a dirty woord to 'em. They did allow EHX to put it on the title though!)zaiten
very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren't the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus. the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can't really go wrong with the big muff pi. my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead.. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.phatjbp

It’s an Ibanez tube screamer, so of course it’s wicked. Easy to use, bombproof, and gives you that extra bit of oomf for a big solo. If you want pure dirty blues then I’d go for the 808, but the TS9 is great for rock, it’s got a slightly brighter more aggressive tone. These things really shine with a Strat, but they sound just as great with whatever guitar you’re using, and they are just loads and loads of fun. The tube screamers are, I think, a foundational building block of getting a good blues tone out of your rig. Obviously, your guitar and amp will have a big impact on your sound, but this pedal can help you find that special sweet spot of tone. Being an overdrive pedal rather than a hard distortion pedal, do not expect the long singing sustains you would get from a traditional distortion pedal, but more of a crunch, an added grit. I think the pedal will interface well with a distortion device like OCD, and spatial pedals like MXR Carbon copy, and TC electronics hall of fame… if you can afford them… they are expensive… the price you pay for quality. If you are into blues, this is the pedal. If you are into hard rock, this pedal is good in front of a layered chain of distortion pedals to over drive some killer tones.Jim in the box

Absolutely loving this pedal. It takes a little while to get used to, especially if you're more used to a regular wah however the applications for this are great. It's easy to use and so much fun when used with other effects. You'll really have a great time with this. My only issue was with the fact that the one I bought, inside packaging had been opened and box was a little dented but for the price I couldn't complain. Overall: Here it is, the signature wah from the love him or hate him wah master himself, Kirk Hammett. For this review we'll just exclude Kirk, his playing style….or overuse of the wah itself and stick to the sound and use of this wah. After trying out the Dime wah, and a few others (still going to buy the Slash wah later) I decided on this one in particular for a few reasons. One it handles so well with a lot of gain going on, it does not get thin or cut out or sound like tin. This is great when it comes to that. Secondly, the graphics, while those aren't overall important I love the look of this pedal. Now, the downside is that is does not have that wide of a sweep, but the tone and great construction of the pedal make up for it. If you are in a Metallica cover band I say get it, I play a Gibson Les Paul, Fender Stratocaster through a Marshall Code 100 half stack (classic metal setting is near perfect) and can get those killer, sick wah sounds. I have been wanting to get this pedal for awhile and I am so glad I did. This pedal is amazing, not only the graphics and paint are second to none especially under the lights on stage, the basic design of this pedal is solid and you can customize your solos with this thing. The build of this pedal is sturdy and Dunlop did a year job with this. How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad

While some claim this compressor is an optical compressor, that couldn't be further from the truth. This compressor is an OTA (operational transconductance amplifuer) design, much like a Ross or Dynacomp. That being said it is an improvement in that design. A big one. If you're into great tone does it really matter whether it is OTA, optical, flux capacitor, or glow plug? No. The bottom line is that this compressor is awesome! It can do the Ross/Dynacomp thing where it DOES squash and color your tone, or it can be as transparent as you want it to be. The key is to put that blend knob to use along with the other controls.Guitar74

Now I don't hate it, but Its not my first go to pedal. I like the more modern BOSS "Metal Core". It is however like all BOSS PEDALS built like a tank, extremely reliable and a great first pedal. For the money, this is a super value. I found that I like it for "Gain Stacking" in combination with the BOSS MD-2"Mega Distortion" and a few other pedals. Even two DS-1 DISTORTION together improve the performance to me. Overall it's not terrible and I see were for some it could really be a price but I lean towards Heavy… Heavy Metal and for that it's more a corvette when you need a Lamborghini. I had one of these racks for well over 5 years. My original got pretty dingy so I decided to buy a new one because the first one served me well. I bought this Christmas of 2019. After 6 months of use, the rack is beginning to rust. Try to find the product using description and model number on KitchenAid website so I can contact them about it for possible replacement but got "product not found". Other than the metal rack, it's a great product. The rack should be stainless steel. I generally love KitchenAid products but I recommend against this one.randy_san
Highly Underrated! Many people think this is a low-grade Boss effect pedal, but with proper settings and usage, it stands up to the quality and fidelity you have come to expect from Boss "Built like a Tank" pedals. The reason many people give this pedal low marks is because the Tone Knob is crazy! Similar to the Fender Reverb Tanks, this knob goes from just about right to way out of control in a hurry! – lol. Set fully left/counter-clockwise (7 o'clock), it is dark and muddy, around 8 o'clock it will sound good for a Strat lead tone, around 9 o'clock and a little beyond is good for fat Gibson humbuckers to cut through any mix, and anything beyond that is way too thin, harsh and God knows what you would use it for outside of a specialized high freq-type notch filter effect or laying heavy on a low string. This is what people don't like about this pedal…the Tone control is too wide – lol. Find the right spot and you are there tone-wise. This is Distortion, not Overdrive and it is made to provide searing lead tones and carefully voiced rock chords. It holds a strong distortion without going into feedback as easily as other pedals. There is even a video on YouTube that shows one coupled up with a Boss OD-3 Overdrive…I do it too. It's nice to have one set for crunchy rock and the other set for searing leads and sustain…but I am also guilty of engaging both of them at the same time! As with just about any distortion pedal out there, the higher the gain, the more the noise, but all in all, this pedal holds the noise level down while keeping a strong tone that if need be, any noise gate could easily manage…I don't use one. The Level control can act as a lead boost if you cut back on the Drive. You really can't get rid of the distortion effect, but you can minimize it to a point that it will behave like a boost with a little grit behind it and most times this works just fine, especially live. As of July 2012 the average price for the Boss DS-1, used, in good condition is nineteen to thirty dollars. The higher being free shipping and original factory box. The other factor are the older models made in Japan go for a significantly higher price (sixty to one hundred dollars) to people who collect vintage gear or have discriminating tastes. With the abundance and affordability of these pedals I say, "Why not have it in your arsenal?" If you set your unity gain and tone to be "seamless", it is worth twenty bucks to have it there & ready to kick in when you need to hold a high note (or any note) extra long without worry…and if nasty is your thing, this pedal can get really nasty set to anything past 11 o'clock. (Which is only 1/3rd of the way "up".) This pedal also doubles as a great little gift for a budding rock star. It is cheap and it provides good distortion, which is what they are most likely looking for, until they get good enough to deserve a two hundred & fifty dollar pedal. I, myself have many expensive pedals, play professionally (26 years) through a large rig and have this pedal at home in my "Boss Chain." I picked up one of these beauties after trying a bunch of units at my local GC. It was the last one I tried and I stopped right there. At the lower settings it gives me that great tube growl without having to turn my Amp up to earsplitting volumes. At higher settings the depth and saturation increase without becoming muddy or loosing definition. If you are a metal head you'll probably not want this one, but if heavy blues, rock, or covers are your thing you will love it. The crunch button adds a nice boost overall especially in the upper ranges without adding the harshness of other units. Built like a tank with battery or AC power and at this price it's a steal. I've even used it with my acoustic/electric with interesting results. Go get one!Donald

I could spend all day yapping about this pedal…In my travels i've tried countless pedals, but got tired of having 'too many' pedals. The weight, the time it took to hook it all up. I also busk, or play where electricity isn't available, and wanted a setup where i could make one trip with everything, and keep the weight down. I've always been a fan of ZOOM products, so trying out the Multistomp series was a no-brainer for me. The 50G met all my requirements, and exceed them all after i got one and started using it. Tones that are as good as any higher priced pedal, the versatility is second to none, and the price is killer for what this pedal can do. I would say the the Bluetooth version was my favorite, then the 70CDR, then the 50G, with the 50G's new 3.0 update, the 50 G is now my favorite pedal…period. The 50G started with maybe 50 patches, now it has 172, and best of all it has the Exciter patch, which to me is required on any pedal board. All i can suggest is watch the countless demo videos of this pedal. I would recommend this pedal for any level of guitarist, i would also recommend the MS-70CDR, watch the demo videos of the 70-CDR vs Strymons…amazing I cant say enough good things about the 50G, i believe it's near the perfect all around pedal. The MS-50G pedal is first class. It is every bit as clean, quiet, and well built as the Boss pedals. It is not a replacement for the Boss line. Zoom pedals have a character of their own. Personally, I like the Zoom tone. But I'm not a guitar player. There is a great ~15 minute YouTube instructional video for the MS-50G. I got over the learning curve for writing and storing effects by watching this video, then I bought pedal. It replaces several pieces of my high quality studio gear when I need fast results that are of high level audio quality. Zoom delivers with this product. After I watched this video I purchased the pedal. I also like my G1X as a companion to this pedal. The G1X has a nice volume/expression pedal.Sean
I needed something for my living room and practicing while watching TV late at night without a full pedal board or multi-effects box. This along with a Boss RC-3 and a mini mixer for my wireless headphones provides everything I have in my studio at a mini level. The sounds are good enough. There are enough options in sound to play most anything. Eventually I'll try this little beast as a sub for my full pedal board and see how it works in a live jam. One pedal to do everything. It's not perfect but it is great. I wish Zoom would provide updates to it and a better manager. It's pretty old by today's standards and if Zoom provided updated files they would sell even more if these great little boxes. Sound: The sound on this board is amazing, I fee it’s also very responsive to your playing and you get that responsive feedback. Makes me feel like it’s easier and more joyful to play my guitar. I will say this you have to tweak settings to get your sound typically the pre made ones aren’t the best. Overall: Ok so first off I’m new to this thing, I never thought I get away from tube amps, but….this headrush caught my attention and I love it! I like the simplicity of it and it produces great models plus sounds really authentic for what it does. I will recommend pairing with headrush frfr108 or frfr 12 or a frfr (Full range flat response) speaker instead of an amp. That way you get the absolute most out of this. I got the headrush frfr108 and it’s sounds amazing! too. As far as the headrush’s competition I haven’t used them yet. But end of the day it’s all personal preference. First off, DO NOT judge the tones of this pedalboard by the preset rigs, they're pretty bad. Build new rigs from scratch and you will discover what this unit is capable of producing. It's not overloaded with every effect pedal out there, but there is more than enough to get any tone you want from Jazz, Country, Rock, Metal, and Blues. For overdriven and distorted tones, it may seem like you only have a few pedals to choose from, but once you combine them with all the various amps, cabs, mics, and impulse responses, you have hundreds of tones in your sound pallet. As for modulation and delay effects, it has all you need to produce any tone. Real Amps and FX Loop – In addition, you can use any of your favorite effects in the FX loop of the pedalboard. It also works great with tube amps and can work in a "four wire" setup with your modulation and delay effects going through the amplifiers FX loop. You can also run into the PA and to a stage tube amp simultaneously. Virtual Amps and IR's – The amps and impulse responses sound fantastic. I have several vintage tube amps and I am able to reproduce the same tones of mic'ing up those amps from this pedalboard directly to the PA or a recording desk. It has the easiest user interface of any of the pedalboards out there. If you can use a smartphone or tablet, this will be very easy to learn. One of the best features is the ability to assign the footswitches to any pedal or multiple pedals (scene function), or do either toggle or momentary mode. In addition, the mini screens for each footswitch change when you assign it to different pedals so it's easy to see what effects you are turning on and off in live performance. In addition, you can name a scene footswitch anything you want (e.g. Clean, Crunch, Solo, etc.). Makes live performance very easy, no more stomp pedal dancing. Overall: First of all, I am pretty sold school when it comes to amps and effects. A simple tube amp pushed with a couple of tube screamers, the on board reverb from the amp itself, and some modulation like delay and chorus. I joined a band a few years back that was about to go into the studio to record an album the year before covid struck. As a result, I ended up buying a Pod HD500X as a way to try to consolidate the effects that I might need all in one unit. I used it mainly as a "pedal board" in front of the [tube] amp as if it were my old analog board full of individual pedals. Needless to say, the recording project got pushed back because of the pandemic, and I was stuck at home, with a lot of time to play around with the processor. It was "good" but it left me wanting an easier to use option. As you could imagine, what that kind of time on my hands, I did a lot of floating around the internet just looking at possible modelers. All of the names. Kemper, Helix, Axe FX, Fractal, and this HeadRush board. Out of everything that was out there, the HeadRush board seemed to be VASTLY easier to try to figure out. Pushing my late 40s now, I don't really 'enjoy' learning new technology the way I did in my teens and twenties, so I didn't want a steep learning curve just to be able to use this thing. I spent a day while it was being shipped looking over youtube tutorials as to how to use it. Only took me a few hours of messing around with it once it got here to dial in the tone that I had on the HD500X. If you can use your cell phone, you can figure this board out. The effects sound convincing and the amp models really seem as good as the competition's offerings (even if this board doesn't have quite as many jammed into it). We are about three weeks out from going in to start laying down the guide tracks for this LP [finally], and this will make things much easier to navigate when each little tone will be more heavily scrutinized. The ability to tweak it on the fly will save time (and thus MONEY) in that studio environment. No deep dives into large menus to try to make a minor adjustment. Gives me a lot more freedom to just try to play my parts instead of worrying about the setup itself. I think this board is a bit underrated as far as the amps and cabs as well. I still will be running it to my amplifier and mic-ing it up as I do still like the "feel" that tubes give when playing. But who knows, I may use some of the sims as well. Built like a tank. A bit heavier than I had expected. Should hold up well under live applications (though that was actually not a problem with the 500X either). I highly recommend this unit if you want to get something that doesn't take a degree from Berklee in sound engineering to get started making music.Kenneth

i cant believe Musicians Friend is restricting a word that is used in a product they sell. Replace ** with ff The Metal Mu** gave me the sound I was looking for. I have a Marshall DSl40c and an LTD EC401 and they rock. However, when the pedal is disengaged, there was little to no volume, so if I wanted a clean sound, I had to unplug my guitar from the pedal and plug it into the amp directly. I emailed EHX about the issue, they said it was a sensor issue and to return it to MF. I have returned the unit and I am waiting on my replacement. The return was painless, as I expected it would be, can't wait to get my replacement.Kyle E
Great for a pedal into a decent clean. Settings are touchy tho; makes it a little tricky to dial it in at first, but once you get a feel for it, it's not so bad. Go against your intuition to crank it; it seems to prefer being restrained. Otherwise, lots of different tones; very versatile. Seems to prefer passive pickups; my active's get a little screechy and bring out that "pedal-ly" tone, whereas the passives give a more organic sound. It's not as good as plugging straight into a Peavy, Randall or Boogie or something. A pedal never will be. But as far as a pedal into a clean amp goes.. you can get some pretty satisfying "high gain but still natural sounding" tones. Without the price tag of a high gain stack. Basically it's the sweetest pedal distortion i've played. Such a range of sounds that you can dial into nearly any amp, guitar or situation. But yeah, don't expect it to sound like you're plugged into a satan. It's more for an all purpose rig that you want to get some brutal metal out of. Also, I got some cool stuff out of it by plugging it into my FX loop.. but i usually keep it in front of the amp as it's a more versatile position. On my H&K you can use it as a boost into the lead channel, but it breaks up pretty easily, gets real noisy, and actually sounds way more brutal into the clean channel. My eq pedal works better as a boost into the amp distortion. By the way, a noise gate comes in handy. Also a Wah after the pedal.. makes things interesting.Kenny
Well not to do a life story I am the lead guitarist, in a giging punk band. for the last year and a half been trying to find a good tone at such a loud volume. So I settled on a mxr full bore metal pedal. And a lbr boost from electro hanmonix. Now the mxr is a good pedal, however when combined with the boos thats where trouble began. when i hit the boost for very short modest solos, it is punk, it would take all the bottom end out with a huge shot of mid range. I tweeked and turned till the cows cane home nothin. now with the metal miff, with the top boost saved the day. I was worried it would just flood me with treble and sound very bad not so. Also it eliminates have to get a boost pedal all together. GET ONE!!Drew

I replaced my BOSS GT8 with this unit about 2 years ago. I loved the ipad control and effects management and it performed well for awhile. I keep the unit covered with a bath mat when not in use so I was very surprised to find 2 of the footswitches dead upon return from long vacation. Assuming it was software related, I reset to factory settings and updated the driver as suggested on the Line 6 website. I found nothing on the issue in the forums and the website says contact a service center for footswitch issues. That's not effective customer support in my view. So I opened her up to see if the footswitch contacts were fouled and cleaned the boards and contacts with electrical parts cleaner to no avail. The switches are soldered to the mother boards and they are not the quality I would expect in a footswitch. Parts not available from Line 6 (strike 2) and the service center was not helpful either as their diagnostic fee was 25% of the purchase cost just to get started(strike 3). I have seen posts about lengthy repair times (even service centers have a tough time getting parts). Bottom line. If you're OK with a short lifespan and unsupported hardware, the sonics and ease of use of use really are quite good and I enjoyed using it before it failed. However I'm not interested in throwing good money away again on what is clearly a disposable product. Just ordered a BOSS GT-100. We shall see.Mark
I started using a PODxt LIVE and Variax 300 ten years ago. It was a great solution for playing stylistically diverse music in a low volume setting. I upgraded to the POD X3 Live when that became available, and that was even better. However, some of the amps were either too muddy or too harsh and some of the effects (especially overdrive and distortion) destroyed the tone of the better amp models. Those shortcomings are now virtually eliminated. The HD amp models REALLY sound better – and they respond better to playing technique. The HD overdrives and distortions now add to the tone – the Screamer and Tube Driver are very good now. The HD reverbs are a huge improvement, too – especially Octo and Cave (I tend to use reverb as a special effect on swells or as a guitar pad, and these are excellent tools). Bottom line: I'm MUCH happier with my tone now. The app based editing is the single greatest improvement, though. Being able to quickly tweak and name patches with an intuitive editor has made life much easier. Plus, the app lets you easily control Variax tunings. The bright blue LED display and the colored LEDs around the switches are good, practical improvements, too. So, not only is my tone better, the ease of use and efficiency have improved drastically. It's too soon to tell about reliability, but I've been using a Line 6 setup for 10 years with no problems.blewis333
When I first got the FHFX in Oct of 2015 I really liked it, the sounds were usable and the ease of editing was second to none. However as Murphy's law goes, "Whatever can break down will break down". Back in Aug. it stared to act up, the mix level for the delay was changing all on it's own, going from 27%ish to 40%+ making the repeats jump out so loud that people were looking at me like I farted or something. Called L6 and was told they haven't had any reports of this happing from other FHFX owners and was told to try a reboot, but it's a hardware issue not a software issue and to send it in there's a bench fee to analyze the unit that's 1/3 the cost of the unit and that doesn't cover the repair cost. Started a thread on L6 FHFX page to see if other's were having this problem and some were starting to have the same thing happen. If I step on the footswitch for the patch it resets the level, but shortly after it goes back up, so now I use the FX knob and match the level that was set too, I can still see it changing on the main knob (LED's change to white) but it stays at where I put it, it's a real hassle to keep bending over to correct it. That said I'm most likely going to buy another one since the price is right compared to other processors out there. Just wanted to give a heads-up.Sonny6string

This will cover anything from AC/DC style crunch sounds (in "smooth" mode) to the most saturated modern metal (in "edge mode"). After searching high and low for a Marshall'esque dirt box to go in front of my Mesa Rectoverb, I found this beautiful box of filth. I was looking for something to not only give me a different sound from the Mesa, but it had to be responsive and amp-like. I checked out offerings from JHS, EVH, MXR, Wampler, earthquaker devices, Full-tone etc. I thought I was going to dig the higher gain Friedman BE-OD, but THIS was exactly what I was looking for! I looked at a lot of videos on YouTube to decide what I wanted for an overdrive distortion pedal almost made a couple of choices I'm very glad I did not. Pedal is awesome, as others have said I think it goes kind of right up to the point of being good for metal, probably better for old school metal and glam Hard Rock. Freddy thing heavier the beod will do the trick. That said you can adjust the gain on this pedal which is awesome it is very touch responsive I have been using it first day with the game that about 1 to 3 p.m. since the game on the pedals set to about halfway or so it feels good and sounds really good going right from soloing and playing single notes right back the chords sounds great for the kind of music I do which is not metal but I do rock out. For the money it is very much worth it I would say to look at comparison videos between this one and the beod to figure out which one you want more. If you doing really heavy music you probably want the other one if you're doing everything else this will be perfect and with the payment plans AMG comes through again great people great service thanks again!Jared J
I'm using this with a Tele or Les Paul into clean tube amps run loud. It's been in my rig for maybe 4 months now. One stop shopping for higher medium to high gain rock tones. Full & natural sounding. Mid knob is boost only. Mids on zero is actually flat. If you want the scoopy scoop (I don't) look else where. If you're using a clean or cleanish amp & want touch sensitive, natural sounding, amplike dirt in the hot rodded Marshall camp, this is for you. Easiest way to dial it in is to set everything at noon & the mids at zero. bring up the mids to taste then fine tune the rest a bit. An internal trimpot offers further control of the gain range. The JHS Emperor is by all means a fine chorus/vibrato pedal that should satisfy most players. That being said, I personally found it to be a tad timid in the depth department and a little bit too much on the "dry" side. It is said to have been designed after the Arion SCH-1, revered in some corners as a studio secret weapon, one supposedly inspired by the Boss CE-2. Somehow, I fail at distinguishing the resemblance between the two, but that isn't necessarily an issue. Overall, the Emperor is a beautifully made pedal that is guaranteed to deliver. Overall: That baby would be born a black and orange stomp box. Ok we all now how most of us are going to use this pedal, straight chainsaw mode. Many of us want that early entombed sound. The cool thing bout this pedal is it can be used for so much more. You can get slightly broken up tones, a nice Gilmour sound, and everything in between. Custom mode adds more bottom end making this thing sound huge. If you are running everything on ten and roll the low end completely off you go from sweden to norway circa 88-93 (church burning and murderous bandmates not included) seriously, this pedal is everything dirty and heavy that I could have asked for. I FINALLY found the sound in my head. Now if you'll excuse me, I have neighbors to annoy.
This recreation of a iconic pedal is amazing. They have captured the original hm2 perfectly but with modern clarity and custom settings. It’s getting increasingly harder to obtain a original in great condition and with reliability. I highly recommend this pedal it’s a great addition to anybody's board. I use this pedal to nail the David Gilmour tone to boost a fuzz but is highly versatile. I give this pedal 5 starsPaul M.

I have playing guitar for over 20 years. This is a totally new distortion for me. I have tried several others that were excellent, like some MXRs, this is even better I think. I have had the DS-1 in the past but then I upgraded to the Boss Metalzone MT2 and the Boss MetalCore ML2. Both excellent buy more metal. You can play rock, metal, blues, almost anything with the Boss DS-1X. The high and low have a wide range. The Distortion control changes the contour also adds more treble/high as it goes up. At lower values you can use it with split humbuckers or two single coils for very crunchy TS9 boosted over drive SRV type tones. This is what I like about this. Great sound with neck and brigde humbuckers and split coils. In my setup i use Evolution7, Deactivator pickups. As you play up to higher frets, the sound stays thick very smooth. On low strings it stays relevant, without being boomy. the sound morphs in sutbtle ways if you play to very low strings. it is a totally new effect, not just a distortion.NoNickName1
As I transition from PODs to stomp boxes, this is the first distortion I buy. The online reviews are good. I recommend Pete Thorn's sound test as it's a demonstration in detail. After trying it out myself I cannot but agree with everyone. It's NOT a improvement of the old DS-1. It's a whole new beast! Sounds great, responsive, good dynamics, clear low end (not muddy) and sweet high end (not screaming). What more could you want? It makes me wanna buy the OD-1X too!Rickrock
