Initially intended to buy an Xotic EP Booster because I wanted to try the Echoplex thing out, but saw this little guy and figured…why not? I like it so much, I don't see the point in ordering the EP Booster anymore! Hits the front end of my Soldano in a way no overdrive has yet, and with no noise. Works equally well in front of my OCD pedal for a lead boost. And to all the people whining about the switch not clicking…whatever. I like that about the TC stuff and wish all pedal companies would make their switches "clickless". Great value, just buy it already! Thanks TC and Sweetwater!
This pedal does exactly what it claims and does it better than other pedals of the same purpose. It is constructed extremely well. For around $50 this pedal's physical casing and switch assembly is made better than pedals I own costing hundreds of dollars more. I don't foresee this pedal ever needing replacement or repair. I'm not particularly fond of the "momentary volume boost" feature but that doesn't change my overall opinion. It's a great item.ethan1957

This is the amazing Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, loved by all who use it. Amazing value at just £55. I won't bore you with stories about how robust it is, because we all know Boss equipment lasts forever. It looks and feels great, but most importantly, sounds incredible. I play punk rock, and with my Gibson SG Special, plugged into my Marshall JCM 900 this delivers exactly the sound I want. I loved that in the manual it gives example sound setting, one of which was British Punk. That just made me smile. I knew instantly it was right up my street. Oh, and if you're into electronics, this thing is made of pin-through-hole components, so it leaves it open for a good bit of modding. There are plenty of guides for that online. Now I don't hate it, but Its not my first go to pedal. I like the more modern BOSS "Metal Core". It is however like all BOSS PEDALS built like a tank, extremely reliable and a great first pedal. For the money, this is a super value. I found that I like it for "Gain Stacking" in combination with the BOSS MD-2"Mega Distortion" and a few other pedals. Even two DS-1 DISTORTION together improve the performance to me. Overall it's not terrible and I see were for some it could really be a price but I lean towards Heavy… Heavy Metal and for that it's more a corvette when you need a Lamborghini. I have a 60w Fender Deville amp. Lovely clean sounds straight from the amp but couldn't really use the overdrive channel without the volume getting to an inconsiderate level at home. This pedal has addressed that issue really well. This pedal now provides me really raunchy distortion while providing a greater control for volume. The pedal also provides a nice boost in changing between a clean channel directly from the amp and then through the pedal. Very pleased with this investment, particularly for the price. The donner yellow fall delay pedal is a cost-efficient and space saving pedal from one of the more well known pedal makers to come out of china in the past few years. along with mooer and joyo, donner is at the forefront of the mini/micro pedal movement that has recently taken hold, and currently offers quite a selection of pedals, many of which are inexpensive homages to well-known, and significantly higher priced, pedals. the donner yellow fall is the company's take on a classic delay circuit. features the donner yellow fall delay features true bypass wiring, and a three knob design with controls for time, echo, and feedback. the pedal's signal path is based around a pt2399 echo/delay processor chip, and provides from 20 ms of delay up to about 620 ms of delay. although on its own, this chip does provide longer delay times than the quite popular bucket brigade device mn3007 analog chip, the pt2399 is still limited to a maximum of 340 ms. however, at the expense of the signal quality, the total delay time of the pt3007 can be stretched to about a full second. as such, the yellow fall delay provides repeats that are clean but not-too-clean, making it a very vintage-y feeling and sounding pedal.

I am a home use player and wanted to run this in the effects loop of my 40 watt tube amp to get my preamp crunch without blowing out my windows. I quickly noted that the response was smooth and just what i wanted except that as i neared the full heel position to get the volume i wanted, i was getting some very loud popping from my amp which i worried might blow a speaker. I read online that other Ernie Ball vp owners had noted that there were loose solder contacts on the pot. I took a look and sure enough, one of the solder lugs was loose on mine too. The wire was soldered just fine but the lug was loosely crimped to the little board on the pot. I took the pedal apart pulled the pot out, crimped the solder lug better put it back together (which was a real pain to get the string wrapped correctly and back on the spring). With the pedal back together, it worked great and gave me exactly what i wanted with no popping. This is a great product but could really benefit from some better quality control.Jack
This volume pedal has a great, even volume swell. The addition of gain controls makes the volume pedal even more useful, however. When I'm playing bass, I sometimes want to increase volume for certain passages, but without the sudden change in tone that comes from an overdrive or boost pedal. This does that (I use a few different class D amps). Additionally, this allows me to have greater flexibility with my volume without needing to fiddle with my amp or bass' volume knobs while playing. On guitar, this can act as a nice, subtle boost that can push gain-ier amps (I use an Orange) into some sweet saturation. Great pedal.Derek P

Klar, Metal ist nicht damit machbar, aber das Teil liefert gerade die korrekte Menge Crunch, wobei der Klang immer transparent bleibt. Für Humbucker die Normaleinstellung, für Single Coils die Fat-Stellung und wenn das nicht reicht, muss man halt Gain am Amp aufdrehen. Ich werde das Teil nicht mehr von meinem Pedalbrett entfernen.
Look… this pedal is great. Even without the “fat” switch on it still has the kind of bottom end that most overdrives and distortions lack which makes it a great crossover pedal between guitar, bass, double bass, vocals, a contact mic’d plate of nachos or ukulele. But the real reason I bought this pedal was anti psychotic medication and it has the same name as my cat. Zeus is a ginger bengal x ragdoll. He’s eight years old and exceptionally funny and weird. You never know if you’re getting a nose boomp or a face bite. Though he’s really good with the kids on my street and he’s become somewhat of a local Tempe icon. Was dieses Pedal aber kann ist den Grundklang der Gitarre und des Verstärkers noch etwas aufzuhübschen. Drive ganz runter, Tone je nach Gitarre/Tonabnehmer um die Mittelstellung herum und dann mit Volume den Sound andicken. Funktioniert hervorragend! Besonders zum Tragen kommt das Pedal meines Erachtens nach bei Single-Coils, aber macht euch selbst ein Bild – bei dem Preis kann man wirklich nichts falsch machen.

First impressions. Fast tracking and good options. Well laid out pedal. Would be more useful w/ different scales rather than just major modes, but the modes are a fun way to interact. Tone reproduction seems very synthetic. (Used on sax not guitar). The mash pitch bend is a great idea, however the tone of the harmonised notes is so plastic that it's not worth it for me. The Digitech DHP55 harmoniser i had in the mid 90s killed this. But that was a high end rack mount multiFX unit. Maybe on distorted guitar this would be a lot more effective. This is a well designed user friendly pedal at a great price that I'm sure will be a lot of fun for plenty of players. EDIT: those were first impressions on the day it arrived. After playing around a bit more today I found adding reverb after the Harmonizer really helped. Still sounds plasticy but its a fun effect. The modes setting is actually is a good way to interact. Let me start with… The only good features of this pedal are the esthetics and nothing else. Having tried out other tc electronic models this is a real disappointment. The pedal features C D E F G A B tonal options with # toggle with and mash for infinite tonal possibilities however… When it comes to the scales it offers 10maj, Dorian, Phygian, Lydian, Mixolydian, Aeolian and a custom form if you ever get them to work in the toneprint app. From the harmony perspective it offers -6th, -4th, -3rd, 3rd, 5th, 6th, 3rd and 5th, 3rd and 6th and 3 tone print options if you ever get to make them work. I downloaded the tone print app on my apple Mac and I never got it to work. However the iPhone and iPad apps work only if you invest on a 35$ on a convertor-cable. After careful playing around with then tone print app the toneprints never saved any of my custom presets. The minor thirds never latched on properly, the feel is plastic and not organic, even though it is a versatile pedal it really lacks in quality. The octave does not sound deep and round as other brands, the only good solid song are 5th or dual 5ths. I wanted to use this pedal for harmonizing either Iron Maiden or Queen riffs but I would suggest to jam it out with a buddy because this will definitely provide that sweet double guitar harmonized tone.Rickingo

I bought this pedal about a week ago from American Musical to give my new Blackstar Artisan 10AE a little more Dirt. It achieves this really well… having both treble and bass knobs really opens up the tonal possibilities unlike a lot of overdrive boxes that only have a tone knob… it makes my 10 watt Blackstar Artisan go from a low gain amp into a medium to high gain amp… I can’t stop playing my new amp and the Crayon is the reason why! If you’re on the fence about buying another overdrive pedal don’t be! It’s a great deal here too at $62 bucks! I like EHX products very much. They are unique, have quality and made right here in good ol USA! I bought the Crayon searching for a sound in my head. Although this is a fine pedal it didn't work with what I was going for and ended up with the EHX Glove. I was looking for a touch higher gain and a more marshally sound. This box has many different sounds from >almost< a fuzz to medium gain clip. It definitely is a tinker-er's pedal for people who need powerful tone shaping. The knobs are extremely sensitive to the slightest of adjustment. The fit and finish is excellent and they come with a pre-installed 9V battery. I think this would be a great pedal for single coil players because it's quiet and you can add the bass back into the signal with the bass knob. If I was going to use this pedal it would be in an amp that was slightly overdriven and with the pedal by itself, no other OD pedals. I'm a set it and use it kinda guy. I'm not much into twisting knobs all the time. I find my sound and leave it, for all my guitars. Long painful road to find that sound in my head but it's part of my fun. I have as many as 4 OD pedals on my board at a time for different flavors and stacking gain. Overall: I wish I had about 20 EHX guitar and bass pedals! I sure dig the many options and love that the build quality is always a lesson in USA spec deluxe. Durability counts and these pedals are exactly that. Having said all that, The Crayon is one of my fave overdrive pedals, regardless of cost. Place in front of clean tube amp, set as basically a clean boost. Then slowly start adding in some drive, be amazed, play all enthused awhile, then add a bit more overdrive, become a whole 'nuther guitar hero, play crazy enthusiastic guitar riffs, then crank a bit more. It goes on and on, very rich harmonics from the Crayon, really shines up other drive and fuzz pedals into mojo tone bliss. No bad settings with this pedal. Even though I've only had the Dual Expression for a short time it seems to fill the bill for which I intend to use it. This expression pedal is very flexible and functional for the price! The sensitivity dial on the side lets you fine tune the amount of wah/fx sensitivity with little effort. The pedal itself is balanced really well, meaning it is easy to get a feel for it quickly. The quality is pretty good. The only minor downside I see with this pedal is it is a little loose. Overall: Considering the price, the flexibility and quality is excellent. Although made of a plastic material it feels rugged. I stomp back and forth on this thing constantly to throw analog delays out of whack in conjunction with pitch shifting, so I've put this pedal through its paces and Im very impressed, especially for the price. The ability to tweak each expression individually so they work together is an excellent and intuitive feature. IF they made a model with the ability to A/B/both the expressions, that would be only thing I would find superior to this expression pedal. I will be buying more of these. At first I tried to toss it into a daisy chain with my hi-gain distortion, compressor, and wah pedal. I was dismayed to discover that in this configuration, it made an excellent AM radio. There was a whining, squealy, ghostly tone accompanying the voice of someone reading the weather report. Activating the pedal made this impromptu sampling jump in volume. A few internet searches later, I re-hooked the pedals up to my actual power brick, and the problem disappeared. Great boost, nice crunch into mid-level distortion, and I like the subtle yet noticeable difference between the normal/fat settings. It's a lovely middle ground for a blues voice, and can dial up into some more bitey and chewy rockabilly tones. It taught me the valuable lesson of avoiding cheap, flimsy power sources.Matthias
Monoprice again did not disappoint! I have purchased many items from them and every single item has been of superior quality. My first purchase was their Indio guitar, at the time it was $99 dollars. I changed the strings, lowered the action, and eventually changed the pickups to Alnico 5. This is without a doubt the most playable guitar I own, even slightly better than my Epi Les Paul Standard. Now to this pedal. At this price, just like the guitar, I could not believe the quality. It does what it is supposed to do and does it very well. And their cables are exceptional also. As other reviews have stated, this is more of a distortion pedal than an overdrive. There are definitely some usable tones to be had but using this as a main overdrive/gain/distortion pedal would not be the best use for it. I placed it after my overdrive (Fulltone OCD) and set it to lift the overdrive into a more spiky distortion. It's definitely a pedal that yields it's best results by investing time in the placement order in your pedalboard. It's not one of those plug & play miracle pedals. You need to coax tones out of it, but at a sale price of under $30, that journey is worth taking…New User

The Boss OD-3 Overdrive sounds great through my '65 Fender Blackface Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue Ltd. Edition Wine Red with Wheat Grill Cloth. My amplifier has the Jensen P-12Q speaker as opposed to the Jensen C-12K speaker that comes in the stock '65 Fender Deluxe Reverb Re-Issues. My amplifier sounds awesome but does not have a gain or drive channel, so the Boss OD-3 Overdrive gives me a gain/drive channel. It sounds perfect with the reverb turned on to 4. I think this is the sound the Mad Professor #1 Guitar Pedal tries to emulate. Anyway, I experimented with an Ibanez Jet Driver, Pro Co RAT 2, Xotic BB Pre-Amp, Boss DS-1 Distortion, and Boss SD-1 Super Overdrive finally achieving a great tone with the Boss OD-3 Overdrive. I play Gibson Guitars with humbucking pickups (3 Les Pauls & 3 SG's)and can honestly say this pedal is the sound of "classic rock" to my ears. I have been playing guitar for over 34 years. I own a 1979 Marshall JMP 100 watt 2203 single channel head, a Marshall 4×12 slant cabinet, and a Marshall 4×12 straight cabinet which I don't really use that much anymore. The Boss OD-3 Overdrive through my '65 Fender Deluxe Reverb Re-Issue reminds me of the tone of my Marshall stack cranked up. Not the same, but similar enough that I am very happy with my tone.
I'm not sure why the first time I hooked up this pedal it didn't seem to have any drive to it no matter how much I cranked it, but a few months later I plugged it back in and gave it another try and it works great. There's more than enough overdrive and it sounds great! I've ran it thru it's paces with p-99's , hum buckets and different single coils and it's awesome with every type of pickup and amp I use it with and I've got a lot of options to play with. I'm not sure if something wasn't plugged in completely or what the deal was the first time I tried the pedal, it just didn't seem to have any drive at all no matter how much I opened it up,just got louder. Now I use it constantly and I love it. Glad I didn't get around to returning it or selling it cause it's great!Sean

It is like the difference of a very inexpensive set of pick ups and the most expensive due to quality. It gives you the genuine sound of what an electric guitar sounds like plugged in and driven – whether playing easy or hard. Stays right with it and does not fade out. Continual signal. Sound: OK, so the pre-set programs are hit and miss for me. But that had to be expected, as I am not plugging a guitar into it, but rather a Korg RK100-S2 keytar. For obvious reasons, the cleaner patches, and patches designed around arpeggios sound decent, while the shredding metal patches sound like ass. I'm sure they would both sound good if I was hooked up with an actual 6 string. Features: The most useful feature as far as I'm concerned, are all of those knobs all over the front of the unit. They make it so easy to dial in the sound. Especially when compared to the all digital products like the GT-1. I had a GT-1B last year, and it was aggravating to modify sounds on the fly. The other most useful feature is the Tone Central app. OMG!!! Last month, I trashed Korg's design decision in their app for modifying the keytar's sounds. The window can't be resized, the lines of text are nearly microscopic, it isn't REMOTELY intuitive to figure out how to re-write the patches. Boss' Tone Central app is the EXACT OPPOSITE of all of that. Full screen, each effect section is on screen alone and has 3 different ways to modify the settings. Get things the way you want, name your patch, and click "write," then choose where you want it saved, and click "OK." It couldn't be simpler. Ease of Use: If the preset patches are hit and miss, the "manual mode" is why I bought this board. The keytar really needs some effects to come alive. This board is simply a placeholder until I can build a quality keytar/synth specific pedal board. Compression, delay, and/or phasers can add a lot of depth to my sound depending on what I'm currently using. Those dials make it super easy to get the sound right quickly. It does sort of suck that they are on the floor, but how could that have been avoided without bluetooth and a phone app? And, if that was the case, I wouldn't have bought it in the first place! Quality: I bought this "blemished." My guess, based on the condition of the box that the factory shipped to zZounds, is that this took a fall off of a shelf in the warehouse. One end of the box was mangled badly! Thanks to Boss' attention to detail in packaging, and legendary build quality, I got this product without a scuff, scratch, or dent for 20% off. I like that build quality. (Feel free to play football with some of those synth specific stomp boxes guys! *wink-wink*) Value: Before my fretting hand got too badly damaged to play bass anymore, I wanted the bass version of this product. I believe that it was discontinued, and I missed my chance. I got the GT-1B but didn't like working with it. When I saw that this was available, I didn't hesitate to put it into my cart. Only then, after the fact, did I realize that it was in "blemished" condition. I almost went back and put a new, full priced one in my cart simply because I didn't want the hassle of potentially returning a broken product. So, yes, I do believe this is worth the normal retail price. Manufacturer Support: In the 12 years I've been playing, I've owned several Boss products from tuners to metronomes to multi effects pedals and I have NEVER had to reach out for support. In my estimation, that's the BEST form of customer service! The Wow Factor: G.A.S.! I can't play guitar a lick. But I've bought guitars in the past simply to hang them on the wall. I can't say that I would ever buy THIS product if I didn't need it. But I'm sure that it will still find some place in my home studio, even after the actual pedal board is complete Overall: An easy recommendation for the guitarist on a budget. Depending on one's needs, stomp boxes and pedal boards can become quite pricey. Between this, the Tone Central app, and the hundreds of additional patches available there, if you can't get the sound you're looking for, the problem lies mostly with you.
I have been buying and selling multi effects for many years. I loved them all, even the silly ones such as the RP50, 505, ME30..too many. I guess my favorites were the Korg AX3000G(which I thought was ahead of its time) and the Digitech RP500(awesome reverbs, mods and filters),and even some Pods for their amp sims too. Yes yes.. they all had their short comings in different avenues.. Boss reliability is were a part of Ny early playing days since the 80s..and to this day, I use Boss single pedals almost exclusively as my main rig. I just love the simplicity of their individual pedals and this unit is the only one that comes close in terms of the logic of its settings. I love KNOBS, and the ME80 has plenty to go around with. SIMPLICITY is the key . No more scrolling up n down a screen on the floor which I can hardly see. Now is the ME80 the best sounding multi-effect out there? No sir! With all the current technologies which can produce units such as The Kemper, Fractals, Boss GT1000, and other high res IR capable units from Zoom and Line 6(including some very capable Chinese newcomers), the ME80 can be seen as kind of outdated to some, The ME80 is certainly not what the top guns use these days, especially when occupying an arena concert stages I'm sure(but I bet they still use one or two boss pedals in their rig lol)..Also, Let's not forget that the ME80 initial introduction day to the world was just about eight years ago.. shall we? But guess what, it's still alive and kicking! And that is exactly why you still see it here for sake in 2022 ar least until Boss comes out with some new monster that can handle the GT1000 chipsets and adding more KNOBS to its chassis. The ME80 is gorgeous, it sounds good, and it has a personality. It also has more to offer than its predecessors such as the ME50/70..I mean, the addition of a separate footswitch for reverb,EQ and a simple patch recall?? I would recommend this unit for any small club or a tight rehearsal space for a quick setup and a speedy wrap-up after a show, when it's finally time to go home, no patch cables required.I AM KEEPING THIS ONE FOR MYSELF! Till I get to warm up for Bruno Mars(not happening soon lol),My main Boss rig is staying home, and that goes to my crybaby and the Budda volume pedal with all them patch cables entourage.James
I don't want to program guitar effects. I don't want to read cheesy names for effects that I can't immediately recognize or understand. The young people like that stuff but I am old and old school. The ME-80 gives me my old stomp boxes but grouped on a modern platform. It is basically foot pedal controlled with a very nice expression pedal and 8 on-off pedals. The foot pedals work flawlessly. But the thing that makes this unit awesome is the knobs. You can turn a knob, set a value and get instant feedback on what you did and look at it anytime to see what it is set at. If you know stomp boxes then you know exactly how this thing works. It has by my estimation about $4K worth of stomp box effects and amp emulations. Whether you want an old Tube Screamer or a Big Muff Fuzz. This thing has it. And it has many new stomp box effects like the amazing Tera Echo, Harmonist, Freeze and a Looper. It has just about every effect you could want and you can play multiple effects at the same time. As far as I am concerned this is the greatest thing since sliced bread. And I am an original POD user. I still plug into the POD now and then. But the POD is history. The ME-80 is what I like today. I even commissioned a guy to build me an angled stand to boost up the knobs and pedal to make it easier for me to dial in changes. I had it painted orange to match my Orange Crush 35RT amp where I port the ME-80 output. Lastly, if you insist on being a programmer, they let you do that as well and offer a ton of presets online. You can hook up by USB to your computer and program away. Brilliant. The one down side… you have to buy an AC/DC adaptor for $30 or use up a lot of batteries. Overall: I've been playing through a Headrush gigboard and needed something different that was just as easy to use, had plenty of tones that were inspiring, that didn't cost as much. I've owned a few Line 6 products over the 30 years of playing music and decided to buy the Pod Go. So worth it! The tones were better than expected, and if you can't afford the Helix series, this is the best choice for a floor unit under $500. The built in expression pedal with toe switch is perfect. You can switch between volume and wah wah or other parameters just by pressing the toe switch in the expression pedal. Basically you don't have to have another expression pedal. The built in pedal can do what you need. I am not tech savvy, I bought the Headrush gigboard last year because of how easy it is to use. I didn't think a floor unit could be. Then comes the Pod Go. It's actually much easier to use than the Headrush. Granted the two have different features but I found making your own sounds easier with the Pod Go. It seems I make them in a shorter time. The color display along with color footswitches make organizing sounds easier than making coffee. If you need a floor unit under 500 the Pod Go is the best choice on the market. If you're a metal head or a traditional Jazz player or love the complexity of Fusion, the Pod Go has your sound.
I was looking at purchasing a Helix LT and upon researching I came across the Pod Go Wireless. It does everything I required from the Helix but at less than half the price, size and weight. You can dial in some great tones, I use it through an 80w Marshall combi straight into the FX return (turning off the cab sim on the Pod) and it sounds very impressive. The amount of effects to choose from is incredible and you can tweak so many variables to get that perfect tone. The wah treadle is very good but it’s not so great when used as a volume pedal as it doesn’t seem to gradually increase/decrease the volume, it’s almost on/off. The wireless feature is very good, I’ve not had any connection issues and don’t have to worry about treading on my cable, which I’m very prone to. Overall, for what I need in a jamming/garage band capacity it is perfect and I’m very, very pleased with the purchase. PMT delivered the next day, it was very well packaged and was the best price I found on the internet.Martin M.
Overall: I wish I could say something positive about this unit. Although it does have some great sounds and features, the fact that it is constantly having to be rebooted because it freezes up or shuts down on its own make it pretty much worthless (Yes I’ve done all the updates and other futile suggestions from the support folks at line 6). Add to that a power supply that is a complete piece of crap. It’s cheap, fragile and generally a bad design. It is almost impossible to find a replacement because line 6 wanted it that way. Simply using a Standard, generic replacement (9v 2500 mA) Is tricky and not guaranteed to work. My review for this product: Look for something else better from a company who is not obsessed with nickel and diming their customers to death over some ridiculous accessory.

I have rarely relied on a loop machine in my 33+ years of performing music. I've had a DigiTec JamMan for a long time but found it too difficult to co-ordinate short phrases into a piece. I used it more with sampling of ambient sound than musical phrases. I've only had the Boss RC-500 for a short time but already find it much easier to use. I haven't even experimented with the percussion aspects but I can see great possibilities. I'm a great fan of Boss and Roland. They make quality , well thought out, aids for musical expression. Have not used it live yet. Still getting friendly with it. There are a lot of rhythm patterns to choose from but many of them are very similar. Some of the functions I would have thought would be accessible through MIDI are not, but there are ways to work around most of them. Overall it seems like a great unit for a moderate price. The sound quality is very good. One disappointment is that I had the impression you could download rhythm patterns to replace the ones you don't care to use – you can't download them as rhythms, only as backing tracks. Look for the reference manual (not the owners manual) and study it before you buy if you have specific expectations.Glenn K
I decided to buy a looper last year to use primarily for practice, and for easily capturing ideas and riffs. I settled on the Boss RC-1 and it performed great. The biggest limitation was only being able to capture one idea at a time. I started looking around for something with more memory locations and I found the RC-5 as an upgrade. I am blown away by the included drums and the device's ability to determine the tempo. As a tool for capturing multiple ideas and being able to back them up to a PC, this is perfect. I haven't tested the midi capability yet. I could easily see using this in an actual performance in the future. It's pedalboard-friendly size makes it very easy to carry around.Joe G

I am jazz guitar player , thus clean sounds most of the time , very few space to effects , NO WAY for distortion. However this pedal adds a modern and vintage grit to the sound. Modern, because some overdrive adds some nuances to the jazz clean sound , vintage because of the old blues and the contamination and color that offers to jazz in any form. Excellent pedal. I had never owned an original BD2 before i bought this so I couldn't truly compare but from what I understand the only real difference is the switch above the tone knob. Standard voicing(BD2) or custom voicing. I prefer the custom and leave it set on that always. The difference is relatively subtle but I find the custom sound to be just a little bit brighter. Also seems to me that it gives just a tad more sustain and has just a little bit more crunch at high gain settings. I pretty much never turn this pedal off when I'm playing. I use it for all of my so-called clean tones. I put a compressor in front of it and I keep the gain rolled back and it adds a very subtle but amazing coloration to the tone. And then I also use it for 90 percent of my high-gain tones. Paired with a fuzz in front and an EQ and reverb after I can get a variety of tones that I love from heavy doom sludgey stoner rock to classic fender tube amp tones to Clapton sounding fuzziness to massive walls of shoegazey thickness ala my bloody valentine. It works fantastic with both single coils and humbuckers. I use it with my les paul and telecaster and it reacts perfectly to both of them. I even use it with my bass sometimes it works surprisingly well just doesn't exactly fit with a bass cuts out some of the low end but good for some stuff. In short this an awesome pedal I love it. It interacts wonderfully with every other effect I use therefore is extremely versatile and it's a boss pedal so it's extremely durable.They call me the butcher
This is the go to pedal my blues guitar tutor in the US uses and I wanted to emulate his sound, and I have achieved that. I bought the BD2 rather than the BD1 in order to obtain the improved sound quality over the original pedal and I am very content that I did. It has a much richer sound. But for me the stand out characteristic is the extra sustain which I find fantastic. Once you have tuned your ear, paying more for quality becomes part of the journey. Is it value for the money? I found one cheap and used and bought it with no preconceived notions. This pedal chugs and grinds in its own unique way. Not like a Bogner Red, Wampler Triple Wreck, or HK Warp Drive (all great pedals). You can play dissonant chords and it will evenly drive each note (A Vox Satchurator does this too, but the Metal Core has INSANE amounts of usable bass). I play through two 4×12's with V30's and G12T100's and it THUMPS! Turn down the gain and it backs down and lightens up. Works great with delay/time based effects.DaveMan
You can get every pedal in the world and BOSS is just going to tear them up and be the ones you want to go back to. The BOSS ml-2 is simply that distortion pedal you are looking for to carry you over the top in sustaining notes feeling like you're playing on butter, yet ripping that growling crunching chug you want to push thru the mix. Try using it also with a overdrive pedal and turning the ml2 distortion level down to about 7.5. Then use the overdrive to kick it back in for your leads. It's a very modern sound that's very defined yet clean enough to enjoy. I'm probably one of just a few who happen to own every distortion and medal pedal made by Boss. Each were designed for specific tones in the search for that perfect sound. While some are lacking to be honest numerous are very good. The ML-2 "Metalcore" is great. If you like the MT-2 "Metal Zone", you'll love this Beast! It's the sound I always wanted but couldn't quite dial in. If you're into Hard & Heavy hitting metal music, it's certainly worth checking out. I like it so much I own 3 to have on all my pedal boards. I used a Boss SD-9 until it broke, and I have an 80's ProCo Rat that doesn't quite work as the edge that I was looking for. I was using a Chinese T'Screamer clone pedal, and it was good…but I thought, wouldn't the real thing be better? I weighed price against quality and quality won out, and I went with the Maxon instead of the Ibanez TS simply because the reviews overall were better. I'm not disappointed; the OD-9 is exactly the rocket fuel I was needing to get into the cosmos. Running the 50's Classic Strat through the OD-9 into a Deluxe Reverb is like finding gold. It sounds like a beautiful, buxom angel is sitting on top of your amp and singing Glory Glory Hallelujah. It is the sound you wanted all along and never, until this moment, could you get. For additional fire, to invoke an angry, but still buxom, angel, I run the Rat after the OD-9 to dial in a little bit more divine wrath. This is the pedal you want. This pedal, IS the pedal. So it is written, so it shall be done.
I ordered in store and was told I'd get it 3-5 days. I ended up getting it after almost 2 weeks. Had the run around with fed ex. Fed Ex made the the entire thing a headache with their signature required delivery. I'm never home as I'm always working so it took 2 days to get it delivered after the initial day it was suppose to. Also, I ordered the original GREEN Maxon 808 and the order I got delivered to me was the new version of the pedal which is the Maxon 808X which is a red pedal. If it wasn't for the excellent updates on this pedal vs the original green id of returned and asked for my money back.JOE
Why 4 starts and not 5? If you know what a tube screamer does, then this does the business – 5 stars. It really feels like it's built to last, but this ‘80s style design means the pedal feels very heavy and ‘oversized’ compared to modern designs. Underneath it has built in rubber seating which means it is a bit difficult to attach velcro to fix to a pedal board. All this means that if you use it on the floor (‘80s) style then 5 stars, on a pedal board though 4 stars. Sound wise you might be shocked if all you do is compare the sound from a solo guitar with the pedal on and off – it sculptures the sound so that you notice a roll off of bass and treble … but in a mix or on stage the pedal is superb at highlighting the guitar. Just step on it for a solo and you get this wonderful midrange boost and suddenly your guitar just pop’s out of the mix for all to hear. All in all if this is your only pedal and you don’t play with a cranked tube amp you might be a bit disappointed. If you are combining with other overdrives and/or overdriven amps it can really bring out a clarity in the sound and is a great tool.David B.

Sturdy unit full of good quality effects. This is the first "cheap" unit that has impressed me with its pre amps. It even manages a passable vox sound that others at this price point fail to achieve. My favourite things about this unit are as follows : 1. The amount of usable presets out the box. Even the more whacky ones can generally be quickly tweaked into something usable. Other brands tend to fill their presets with ridiculous over the top high gain, and what I would call low budget sci-fi sound effects. Boss have done a good job with the GT1. 2. Ease of editing. While you can access the effects chain easily through the menu system, the buttons along the top physically represent a typical effects chain. Press and hold for a second on any one and you are straight into the effect behind it for easy editing or changing to a different effect. Negatives: lack of an on/off switch. It switches on by plugging in an instrument cable – minor annoyance but that's just me. Only other thing is no battery indicator, and I seriously doubt the 7hr battery life claim. The supplied ones died after about 2-3 hrs and the duracells I replaced them with haven't fared much better. I do have a power supply but wanted to see how the battery's would hold up if I had to do a gig on them. Probably wouldn't trust them and would carry two sets as backup rather than one.David B.
This is overall a great pedal. This will give you a wide variety of tones and effects that you can personalize for whatever music you play. Other pedals will offer maybe one tone and you may have to try different ones and might not be happy with them or have to buy multiple ones and spend lots of money to have a well set up pedal board. You can literally spend all day picking out distortion pedals and feel lost on where to go. With this you can go through a wide variety and set it up however you want and save the settings. This isn't some plug and play kinda pedal. You will need to spend time with it and get to know it. It is kinda confusing and there are YouTube videos that help as well. I got more e set up with a clean tone and then a click over to distortion and and anther click on and of for a wha effectErik
The sounds are decent for the price. I downloaded all three pdfs are they are basically useless when it comes to setting up patches, adding an external pedal and the overall operation. I gave up on trying to assign functions to the FS-6 I bought with it. There are no real explications how to use the 6 assignment functions. I think the headphone output is mono as I can only hear in one ear. You can get some decent patches off of tone exchange I'll probably sell it .Kenneth
