The milkman was first mentioned in a conversation between josh scott and tim marcus of milkman sound. tim wanted a pedal that could perfectly match the tremolo and reverb of his amps. the milkman has 2 completely independent effects with a boost on the right and a short delay on the left. the clean boost is fantastic for bringing your amp to natural overdrive or it can be activated all the time as a preamp. the short delay ranges from 0ms to create a doubling effect to 350ms to get just the right amount of echo for spacious sounds.

I mainly play rockabilly guitar and over the years have owned most available delay pedals and tape echo machines. A friend let me use his JHS Milkman at a jam a while back and I was blown away! It's rockabilly in a box and I've been praying for a pedal like this for 40 years! Robust, but light and easy to use and the boost function means that I dont need any other boost of overdrive pedals. I bought this thing because it's simple and sounds good. I've got a memory man deluxe which is great but too complicated for me. Delay is awesome but I'm just not a good enough player to use it properly and take advantage of all the cool sounds you can get from delay. I bought this just to try out and it's great. It only echoes for I think 30 or 60 ms so you get an awesome slap back sound. I use it for cool country style solos and sometimes I leave it on to get a reverb sound with it. I also really like it to fatten my guitars. I play mostly single coils so this pedal really makes them sound good. The boost is good too, and it's aloud me to take my mxr micro amp off my board and save some room for other pedals. If you just want to add a simple echo without all the knobs and crazy sounds of a delay this pedal is the way to go.Nik
Very well made. All metal, buttons feel like they will last forever. I had just got a Gretsch Hollow body, and wanted that slap back sound of the 50's. Milk Man delivered. And then some. You can pretty much dial in any slap back tone you want. I have a Peavey Bandit 112 silver and little Peavey 258 Rage. That boost button can make that Rage talk like it's my bandit. Nice clean sound and tone, then towards the max, it's starts to break up and give that crunchy sound. I was not expecting that good of boost, wasn't even looking for it, but man it really pushes. Very happy especially with that bonus I wasn't looking for. Plus this was a lot cheaper than another brand that was around $350-$400. If you want that old 50's push, this is a great take on it. The Gretsch already had that rock a billy sound, but this puts the icing on the cake. AMS has awesome options on paying, plus their shipping is top notch! 4. Jhs Crayon Pedal

Plugging a guitar directly into a console to create that live distortion sound (direct-in distortion) is one of the most typical guitar sounds of the past 60 years and one of the inspiration behind the color box. the crayon is a simplified effect for a more focused overdrive pedal use, so no xlr function, no 3-band eq but just 4 settings. master manages the general volume. pre works like a drive or fuzz setting, i.e. as if you turn up the pre-volume of a preamp to make it saturate, it will begin to cut the sound beyond 75% of its travel if you attack your strings more. tilt acts as an active control which will boost bass and cut treble simultaneously below 50% of its travel and vice versa above. the hi-pass selector allows you to set the frequency of the high-pass filter to 200hz or 750hz.

Overall: Shame on you if you don’t have this pedal. I just got it and it’s everything I wanted it to be. I have the the color box v2 pedal and I wanted that sound just for guitar and this is it. Sometimes the difference between ok and great is a little bit. This is that little bit. I rated features at 5 but there really isn’t any other then what you need. Am I wrong?

The crayon is super fun to play around with, you can get awesome fuzz Lo-Fi tones very easy. It's sensitive to picking dynamics, so slamming it's input with an overdrive / distortion gets it real distorted all the time…. Knobs have drastic range. So many tones to find. I love this pedal!sorrow-8

Does exactly what I wanted it to do (subtle pitch correction with virtually undetectable latency) and so very pleased with it. Gender and robotic don’t sound that great to my ears but what I’m not too bothered. Unit is solid and looks road worthy so absolutely no complaints there. Main main (minor) issue with this unit is that phantom power us always on and there’s no way to turn it off (ok for condenser mics but not ideal for normal mics). This seems to cause 2 issues for me – firstly hum/noise with very cheap mics that some backing singers own and secondly PA crack each time you connect/disconnect a mic (not what punters want to hear when you are setting up/packing up) even with normal shure sm58 mics. In my opinion this Unit would benefit from a discreet phantom power switch to overcome this slight design flaw especially as most people would want this for live use where dynamic mics are the norm.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
The device is useful but is not a cure-all. You should be a decent singer to start with. If you are not within a half of a semi tone of the target pitch, it will jump to the wrong note. Having said that, it works nicely for simple beatles type harmonies and can really sweeten them up. Using it in a small performance area will produce a chorus effect–your voice mixed with the output of the voice tone. That feels pretty weird and can be distracting. I think running dry monitors and outputting the processed voice only over the mains might be a good way to go but I have not tried it. To do that the mic signal must be tapped before the effect and sent to the monitor mix. A bit of a pain to do. If the voice tone had a "dry" output jack it would be a lot easier. I bought three of these boxes. One per singer. After going back and forth about it I decided keep them. I can see where they would be useful for recording. I did notice some artifacts (faint bump sounds) when running a female voice through it. Probably not loud enough to be noticeable during performance, however. And it not unique to voice tone. Other pitch correction devices can produce artifacts, too. My settings were CH, Off/hard at 9 o'clock and gender at center. The output is very hot and I had to turn the knob down to 8:30 to have any level of control. The general tone seems slightly less clear even with the auto tune turned off…or maybe it is just a bit more compressed. The gender knob is a riot. We could not stop laughing!Swampy
Works just fine. Until now Ive used a computer with Ableton live and a free plugin (GSnap) to achieve the same thing to do subtle pitch correction on live vocals (which can do up to 8 channels simultaneously i.e. for backing singers). The reason I wanted a pedal was for playing in a different band and who are still on an analogue setup thus no facility for a computer connection. Works just fine. I wasnt after robotic effects so dont use those and knew from reading other reviews than the Gender knob is amusing but thats about all. Just use chromatic and I dont use automatic key detection either as I wouldnt trust it at a gig otherwise very happy with it.sharms*nick

This was my first UniVibe style pedal. I found the my guitar tone became noticeably brighter (more treble) when the the pedal was engaged. I reached out on some guitar chat rooms and other have noticed this as well. Some say they adjust the tone knobs on their guitar to compensate. I tried that but was never able to quite dial in my unaffected guitar tone while the pedal was engaged. I found another UniVibe pedal that did not have this issue. This pedal actually does have a great effect. And some guitarists seem to prefer this brighter sound as it can cut through a live mix better than a guitar tone with more low end. The CB is performing several audio tasks in my home recording/composing studio. I'm primarily using as an EQ stage run into the FX loop of one of my amps. It's also taking the my guitar's direct preamp signal into my DAW for use with speaker IRs. Single track vocal overdubs and bass tracks are getting similar treatment with great results. I have yet to put it on drum machine tracks since I record those in stereo. At this rate there may be a second unit in my future for that specific purpose. I like the ability to go from clean to mean on almost anything. Having a high quality EQ with lots of gain is another cool feature. Definitely a winner!Iboughtit
My only complaint is that I didn't buy this two or three years ago when Lucas originally recommended it. I'm just a closet player and probably not even using it to its full potential. Very clean signal path. Fantastic sounds. Really boosted my princeton reissue, especially in conjunction with my existing overdrive pedals. Super easy to dial in your eq preference with sweepable high, mid, and bass. I've got a Taylor acoustic that I've never been happy with the amplified sound, even when using my Fishman loudbox performer, and I know this pedal is gonna cure that anemic tone situation. And it accepts XLR inputs so I can finally use that expensive 1/4" to XLR instrument cable that I bought. I'll probably end up getting a second one for utility situations. Got it with the Christmas sale price, and I don't think I've ever been happier with a pedal purchase
After having owned the JHS Crayon and absolutley loving how it stacked with overdrives and getting punchy, percussive cleans I found I was wanting more out of the crayon then it was capable of. I wanted more headroom for bass and more eq options for a standalone dirtbox. I heard the V1 color box had relatively low headroom and a fixed eq, while the 500 series had exactly what I wanted but no way for me to easily apply it in a live rig without buying more equipment. Then, V2 comes out of no where, checking every box I wanted in it! Buying it was a no brainer. I immediately ordered it when it was available and AMS had to me in two days. Top notch service! I've had it for a few weeks now and couldn't live without it. Having the high/low headroom switch has come in handy for using both guitar and bass. The rotary and hi/low switch for gain staging is great for setting your headroom exactly where you want it and it's a very wide range. Crystal clear cleans to some of the filthiest fuzz I've ever heard. The low cut switch is great for biamping the bass through 2 amps, in a crossover style fashion. It really cleans up the muddiness you get from a multi amp system. The absolute best part of the V2,in my opinion is the eq section. Instead of just boosting or cutting a set range of bass, treble, mids, you can sweep the eq range and fine tune exactly what you want boosted or cut. I use it at the end of my drive chain before delay and reverb. It really brings drive pedals to life and helps muff style fuzz to cut in a live situation. Added bonuses are that I can use it as a DI at the same time or a fantastic mic pre for recording. Can't say enough good things about it. Ive have a few tremolos and none come close to the sound and features of this gem! All 4 trem types rock! The tap in is feature that takes this trem over the top. You can even set the divisions up 4 ways. Ive had the zvex sonar and even though the artwork was way cooler and it sounded amazing it was nothing compared to this jhs trem! This pedal makes great tones easy and on the fly other trems ive had you really gotta fiddle with the knobs to get a good tone. The square wave makes distorted sounds super choppy in a good way and the ramp sounds weird in a good way. JHS hits it outta the park again all their tap tempo in pedals are wonderful! I've had mine for a little less than a week. This AT + has the sound and feel that I love about my Angry Charlie with cool extras. The mini-toggle switch changes the character of the drive to emulate 25, 50 and 100-watt output. The "Air" control is perfect for helping you find the sweet spot with any rig. This latest edition now includes a nice sounding boost integrated with the circuit. What's really cool about this boost is that it can be used independently of the drive. Nice. Love Andy Timmons tone and music. the pedal is wonderful..much better than just a Tube Screamer or any distortion pedal. Obviously, unless you use Andy Timmons exact setup i.e. Ibanez guitar w/ Special PUPS, and his amplifier plus some other gadgets you won't get Andy's exact sound. Nice peddle and good rock tones. For the price, my $40 Golden Brownie sounds just as good. also, for my preference, the boost would be better suited on the back end. almost a keeper for me but the price to tone ratio just didn't cut it. After buying and selling a few more expensive vocal processors, I decided on this one. The doubling effects seem so much more reliable than the harmony effects on any of the vocal processors! All the settings, other than Shout, on this pedal seem viable for my middle of the road vocal needs. I was even surprised that the various settings other than Unison were so good. So I highly recommend this product. I wish it had a remote control so I could change the setting without bending down since they can be hard to see on stage. But, other than that, it is the only vocal effect I use besides the wonderful Mic Mechanic. I prefer the older Mic Mechanic over the Mic Mechanic 2 due to its simplicity, good basic reverb setting, voice tone, AND I get a lot of use out of the mic gain control. It's great but for me it takes a lot of tweaking to obtain a real healthy sounding doubling – probably because I use a couple of other effects boxes and run it all into an older hard-disk digital machine. For me – the thing that deletes one star is its tendency to sound like "auto-tune" when one hits a certain volume and frequency. Am just interested in simple vocal doubling to reinforce the sound, which I eventually get (although it seems to need to be set differently, depending on what I'm singing).James

"I got a ROCK!" – Charlie Brown This pedal is an awesome JTM45 emulator. It can get those nice Marshall sparkles, and it is more than capable of driving your amp through a wall. This pedal is super articulate and can give any amp that classic brown sound. I have AB'd this pedal and a 1990's Marshall Drivemaster. Both the JHS and Marshall are copies of the 1990's Marshall Guv'nor pedal. There is almost no difference between the pedals (which is a great thing) and the Charlie Brown is quite a bit quieter. If you dig the sounds of Angus Young and classic Marshall models, give this guy a chance. JHS Pedals are crazy sturdy, so you never have to worry about some blockhead damaging or breaking it. This is the best overdrive pedal ever!! I am a tone snob and have had or tried pretty much everything over the years (at least once!). I was a HUGE Marshall fan throughout the years. I have always been very leery of distortion pedals as most never really sounded that good. In fact, when I played out, I always A/B/Y'd at least two Marshall half stacks for rhythm/boost to get that true tube tone. After turning 50 I sold everything and retired. The only thing I kept was my 1965 original Fender Princeton to noodle on. I got the itch to start playing again and heard about JHS pedals. I bought the Angry Charlie as it promised "Marshall tones." Came a few days ago and I fired it up. Holy moly!! This pedal is PHENOMINAL!!! Very responsive and the tone/volume/drive knobs are very sensitive and responsive!! I played it with my Firebird V and Music Man Albert Lee. This gosh darn little Princeton truly sounds like an old school Marshall!! This pedal is worth EVERY PENNY!! I love this thing! I wanted a pedal that would be a great hi gain option for my pedal board, and this won my pedal shoot out. I think this thing is perfectly balanced for what it is. While the distortion sound my hearken to an 80's or 90's tone more instead of a modern metal tone, the range of distortion you can get can go from hard rock all the way to metal. The EQ controls make it especially versatile. I also like how you could really hear all of the notes when you play a chord, but it still maintained that grit you get from a Marhsall's distortion. Plenty of low end; again, the EQ on this thing is great. This has to be one of the best distortion pedals on the market. Throughout my playing career I've always wanted a Marshall Shredmaster, but they are harder and harder to come by in good condition. I think this pedal fills that void particularly well. Hi gain, Marshall goodness. I run this pedal through clean tube amps, which I think is the best use for it. Excellent transparent Overdrive. I have literally purchased over 50 overdrive pedals trying to find the “just right“ sound. Crystalline, transparent, but still with a little bit of mid range girth and “Voxey-ness.” This pedal does that. I wanted a high-quality transparent OD and have tried a few different varieties. I had seen a ton of good reviews and watched Josh's YouTube vids about this many times, so I decided to try it out. I tested this with some random Tele + Marshall combo amp in the store and I thought it was pretty nice. I got it home and tested with my own Tele and Fender Bassbreaker 007 (my main recording amp, which they did not have in the store) and it was…awful. It had gritty, annoying tone, even with the high-cut filter on. I tried tweaking the controls for a what seemed like hours and simply could not get a good tone out of it. I A/B'd this with my current favorite OD, an old (vintage?) Danelectro Daddy-O, and much preferred the Daddy-O. Frankly, I never use it for anything other than very low gain grit, because it's all I ever really need from it. And although the higher gain settings sound perfectly palatable, I would usually rather use another overdrive with more effective tone sculpting and keep the morning glory on underneath. So I love the thing. It's great, but it appears that JHS may have a slight quality assurance consistency issue with their powder coating process – or whatever is used for the finish of this pedal enclosure. In photos, the morning glory looks like it be a rather brilliant, almost flaky gold. And on my pedal, the backplate is, but the bulk of the enclosure is a more disappointing, somewhat muddy brown color. Which wouldn't be so bad if at least the two pieces were consistent with each other. At least then, I wouldn't have to know that the front could have looked cleaner. But it's just aesthetic and I can't imagine every pedal is like this. Otherwise, it sounds fantastic and that's what's important.

I actually bought this to replace the Tidewater Tremelo because I was looking for more usable range in the intensity. This delivered that and so much more. I didn't anticipate how good the harmonic term would sound. That, and I can make it as subtle as I'd like. My only "always on" pedal is the Boss EQ, but this harmonic term is working it's way up to that status.
You can't beat the 3-Series for value and tone. This one displaced my other (much more expensive) JHS tremolo which has tap tempo. On this one the light flashes according to the rate of the tempo and it's brighter or dimmer depending on the depth control, brilliant feedback. I found from years of use that I don't really need tap tempo on tremolo but I love the tempo light to help me set it. WORTH THE PRICE! Good music to you!
I have a Boss TR-2 which modulates volume and sounds ok. Band mate has a Strymon Flint with harmonic tremolo which sounds better (smoother, less choppy, more lush). I was looking for a cheaper option as I already have a reverb pedal. This pedal has two modes – harmonic and standard tremolo. The harmonic is good, better than the standard. I'm not sure if it matches the Flint, but it's close. The standard mode modulates volume like a Boss TR-2.Sav B.

I've had mine for a little less than a week. This AT + has the sound and feel that I love about my Angry Charlie with cool extras. The mini-toggle switch changes the character of the drive to emulate 25, 50 and 100-watt output. The "Air" control is perfect for helping you find the sweet spot with any rig. This latest edition now includes a nice sounding boost integrated with the circuit. What's really cool about this boost is that it can be used independently of the drive. Nice. Nice peddle and good rock tones. For the price, my $40 Golden Brownie sounds just as good. also, for my preference, the boost would be better suited on the back end. almost a keeper for me but the price to tone ratio just didn't cut it. After 30+ years, I finally found THE sound I've been hearing in my head. This pedal is so good, I got rid of all my other pedals. And like a lot of guitarists, I've spent a ton of money searching for THAT magical pedal. The boost is a great feature to have too! I use the Andy Timmons Plus with the JHS Morning Glory and it is all I need. Both pedals are very versatile, in my opinion. I would definitely recommend this one!Randy

Believe the hype. This is the first gain stage in my chain and gives the wonderful chime and sparkle transparency it's known for regardless of what amp I'm using. I more or less have the MG's controls all set at 12 o'clock and I always like to have my amps set of the edge of breakup. I stack the pedal into my RYRA Klone (set as a clean boost) and the tone is amazing, and the MG is especially versatile when I use the red remote to switch between it's two gain settings. It can achieve some searing lead tones/nice saturated heft for chords while still retaining definition and clarity in this context – ideal for my uses. I'm currently waiting on an EQD Plumes to arrive and I can't wait to stack it with the MG and see what tones I can dial in, but I image the MG will work extremely well with any drive/distortion/fuzz you care to mention. 10/10Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

This pedal seemed to be basically modeled as a rocking stomp to use as your channel 2 distortion. It's certainly loud and tweakable enough but, it lacks girth as a distortion. The push just seems to mush the front end and the low frequencies are really weak. I understand that in the mix lack of bass response can be pretty acceptable but, we're talking nothing. The bright side is it's make a great overdrive to push the front end of an already dirty amp or pedal. The ability to tweak the mids and input (push) are all practical solutions for this type of thing.Trev

The Morning Glory is a must-have pedal, this includes the Moonshine pedal in a compact enclosure that only requires 1 power connection (great for a small board). You can run either of these on its own, both together in either order, and you're got the additional gain stage (switch or red-remote enabled) – you can do so much with just those options, and the sweep of each control gives you so much to work with. It might be a little more expensive than the average pedal, but you get so much control and color to your sound. I know it is fun to buy and try all the OD pedals out there, but you really won't need another once you try this one. Highly Recommended.Todd
This is in my opinion hands down one of the best distortion pedals out there for worship. Grab the red remote like I did and you get three stages of distortion. I love the morning Glory for worship. This pedal is just a no brainier. It sounds excellent and is super easy to dial in great tone. Love it on my board. It will stay there!
