I just got 2 of these 4-panel shields for my church. A GREAT product. Don't waste your time looking for cheaper ones elsewhere. The quality is second to none. They are sturdy and durable, very well put-together and pristine in appearance. I initially tried going a cheaper route with another company, but the company I ordered from got back to me a couple of weeks later saying they didn't carry the product anymore. In my opinion you can't do any better than ClearSonic. 4 panels instead of 3 guarantees good coverage of your amp which means less noise from the stage and better control in the room. The only negative comment I can make is that they took at least a month to ship, but that was stated on the website so I was expecting to wait. Customer service was great in that they kept up on communication every step of the way. I'd highly recommend ClearSonic. Worth the money. Worth the wait.
I love the A2! I use a Matchless Clubman, with a 212 cab. It sounds best when pushed. I play mostly 2-300 seat rooms. If I didn't use the Clearsonic the first 10 rowes of people, and the sound guy would hate me!It keeps that not so pleasant harsh sound that all guitar speakers develop at 10 feet out away from the audience's ears, and I still have a nice full sound on stage! I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. As far as I'm concerned, Peavey doesn't have any customer support.crrkr
Been playing about a year, so my review is from the perspective of a complete newbie. The things I like- Lots of presets, mobile app functions, computer interface, and loads of user created effects available. Nice and loud, but no real basis of comparison to say if clarity is better or worse than other comparable amps. Don't likes- The micro-usb interface. I had to get an adapter and it's just not as good a connection as nearly anything else would be. IMHO, micro-usb is far too flimsy. Connecting to PC is far more problematic than just using the spider mobile app. It's probably a little more complicated than it should be for a beginner, but it's feature rich for the money.Nic T
I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. There's enough that if you work at it you can get a decent sound but there could be some better ones. Overall I would recommend the amp. Don't listen to the naysayers or the amp snobs, it's a quality amp and extremely versatile.Just Plain Joe

I bought this amp to have a small, cheap portable amp to play harmonica through. For that, it is decent enough. I use a Shure bullet mic and the amp produces good enough tone and is plenty loud for practice or small gigs. When I plug my tele into it the clean channel is decent and clear, but the overdrive channel is junk and hurts my ears. I would rather run the clean channel and use a fuzz or distortion pedal. So that being said it is decent enough to practice licks on and it is tiny so it tucks away easy. If you look around you can find a bigger amp with more features used for the same price but if you want a new amp, this one is probably worth what they charge for it. I would only buy it if you have a specific purpose for it though.Roy
It's small, and pretty portable. However, the sound quality is trash, given the speaker is tiny, but the overdrive is just horrible. If you buy this, try returning it. If you can't return it, just get a fuzz pedal and leave it on clean. Imo, just buy the mustang lt25-50Hotdog Games
I actually bought it 4 years ago, but realized I never wrote a review. It's surprising how light it is, almost felt like a toy. That being said, it's sturdily built, just very, very lightweight which is quite nice. I do mostly clean channel playing, not really much into heavy rocking much anymore. For clean channel playing, this little amp has a great sound. It puts out quite a bit of volume. I have used it playing for church and was more than enough volume to be heard with folks singing. The distortion is just okay, which is what kept me from giving the amp a 5-star review. But, most folks who want to rock out, probably aren't going for a 10-watt amp anyway. The distortion is decent enough for use in practice or playing along to your own music collection.

It was a great deal, and so far has been a real ear opener onto sonic tapestries hitherto unexplored. The interface seems to be built like a tank (time will tell), was straightforward to set up and the neighbours enjoy the results so much they bang on the wall with enthusiastic glee. It's not the greatest amp ever but the sound is absolutely amazing and, most importantly, versatile. You can get so many sounds out of this thing that you realistically wouldn't need any other amp for gigs or recording unless you're an audiophile/perfectionist. Almost any band sound that you'd like is just a community created patch away, it's truly incredible, as long as you have a PC/Mac/Android device plugged into it. The sounds that are built in are still amazing, just a little limited and require some learning to use the effects. Still, you won't find anything near this price that gets you the same quality sound, volume, or variety of uses. The learning curve is nothing compared to the thought and cost of trying/buying dozens of guitar effect pedals – which you can still do, or even use this as an amplified cab for your preamp of choice. If you have a few hundred dollars to try something new then it's worth it. Also worth it if you're looking to upgrade from a practice amp, or need an amp to gig, or don't have the money for pedals, or need to record on your computer, or many other situations. BOSS created the product like a boss, and confirms it's the boss on this market. I own the old 50 watt Katana and the Katana Mini. Both are great. Just bought the Katana 100 mk2, and yes, after whole day spent on setting and playing – I love it. Whatever you need – crispy or warm cleans, crunch or hi-gain sounds you will get it from this amp. Plus – lot of BOSS stomp boxes available as plugins (7 at a time, where 5 manageable by additional GA-FC foot switch). Bit ugly, but fully working BOSS Tone Studio software for setting each aspect of this amp and available effects). Total 9 presets (channel Ax4, channel Bx4 plus "Panel"). Combined with switchable effects quite ok to play a gig. Considering the price/value ratio this amp is an unbeatable champion on the market. I bought a week ago KATAlist from some multi-Line company, and I am sending it back. That thing is good only for couch, while Katana is great for practicing, recording and life shows (assuming you will buy the foot controller). To summarize: – great sounding – very flexible – very nicely priced – relatively small and lightweight You can't go wrong buying it.
Paired this head with my Zilla Cabs 2 x 12 and the sound quality and versatility is excellent. I have 4 well known valve amps, but I find that the Katana is more useful for home playing and practice, mainly because it's easier to get good tones from it at home volumes. It's handy having the Boss effects built in, certainly some of my dedicated pedals sound better but for home practice and recording, the Katana is a simpler plug and play solution. This is a great example of something that conforms to the 80/20 rule, if it does 80% of what I need, why waste time chasing down that other 20%? In fact, I'd say it's more like 90/10 in this case, the Katana MkII is a a great Swiss Army Knife of an amp.

Bought this as a upgrade from the pod xt. With an effects loop, balanced line in and ability to run two amps at a time is what attracted me to it. I really like the dr z, fender and Mesa models and when it worked recorded well. Works in the front of amps and also 4 cable method. Decent passable tone if you want that. Issue is the line 6 monkey and updates. These include firmware patches that will lock the footboard and delete your stored custom patches. There is a way to do a factory reset and I did 6 times over two months. Now my board can't reset and is stuck on one channel. Line 6 has terrible online support and a number of listed service centers that either went out of business or non longer service line 6 products. I have went back to my pod xt while not as good sounding will still work with my daw.503roofdesign
After much consideration I chose the Boss GT-100 over the HD500. The HD500 dominates the Boss counterpart in the direct in/recording… the I/O on the HD500 is far better than the GT-100. However, i rely on amplitube for preliminary recording and reamping for the real thing. I needed to find a floor unit that could run good sounding amp models out of a tube amplifier. I ran a GT-10 into the return section of my 6505+ for a couple of years. For those who don't know this literally bypasses the amplifiers preamp section and is now fully controlled by the GT-100. This is where the GT-100 shines, my live sound unparalleled, most guys with ENGL and mesa mark series amps are asking where I got my 6505+ modded. I don't bother with the four cable method, but regardless the GT is miles past the HD500 when you add a tube amp to the mix. I almost thought about getting one of the new HD PODS anyway, just to have for when i visit other studios and lay down tracks that I do not have the time to sit there fidgeting with my tone, because it really is that good for direct recording. But now that Fractal Audio has released the AX-8 I think I will do a little more saving.Ricktalyf
Pod HD 500x is an upgrade for me of pod XT live. Id had that for ten years and maybe I had the focus to learn learn learnt. Right now I have teens and life is busy, however tho I haven't out the time in with pod hd500x you can make stereo rigs (one amp on ear panned ear/side of the stage thru PA or two amps) and if you put some slight milliseconds of delay on one side of that it widens the sounds completely. It is loaded with amps, like pod XT was, and effects and more effects in the case of 500x AND it has greater sound quality throughout as well as a looper – a short looper and useful extra, tho definately not a replacement for a real looper AND when you learn how, using the stereo amp setup you can set up two guitars (one needs to be a variax and one a quarter inch input, or an xl mic and guitar, or a variax and guitar AND they can have DIFFERENT rigs each, that is, different amps or preamp plus effects for each instrument. Therefore POD HD 500x is like having 2 pod XT lives AND a looper AND better sound quality and diverse output options. However, if you don't want to read manuals OR tweak much, watch videos on how to make patches and read the manual to see if you want something so complicated and deep. In my opinion it's worth the work, though I am only starting to realise what I can do, but I don't think you need to understand everything in this tool box to get value. This was a surprise. I was sure this would sound decent but I was pleasantly surprised at the control & versatility. With a Stratacoustic, very clean & crisp, nice body. I tried all the normal dang Shure's everyone uses but this was great with a Blue Encore 100. Decided to try my daughters Roland Aerophone, very good tone overall. This would work for a little gig or practice of course, but for recording it would work well & of course you can mic this in a larger club/venue. Overall a fun, quality & versatile little amp. I was a little hesitant on buying this amp because of the size, but I decided to take a shot at it. I was very surprised at the power this thing puts out. I use it on my Fender Malibu acoustic electric and also on my Alesis Nitro Mesh Drumkit. It packs plenty of power for both. Highly satisfied with the amplifier. First off I'm an old school Sound Engineer. This little Amp does it all. It has so many uses even though it is so simple. It will teach you to learn to use the controls on your guitar better. Unlike several modeling amps this little piggy takes most stomp boxes GREAT!! Maybe he best feature is its Pre Amp Out which allows you a line into the PA or it will blow you away going into the input of your tube amp giving you a realist boost over any stomp box. At low volumes using the proper guitars pickups sparkling cleans. and this Piggy was made to be dirty. Best tool to have as a back up. Great traveling amp. Battery Life is goes a long way just get rechargeable and carry a small battery recharger in its little closed stash compartment. I don't recommend using the power cord. I'm sure there are some youngsters that differ with me but the old schoolers that like it raw and understand how to dial in their tone without playing with mods will dig this amp/fuzz box. If you have a nice clean tube amp but want some growl and extra volume pre amp this baby into your amp. I have several pedals and over drives and most all become thin bringing up the volume compared to this. it just gets thicker and more meaty as you increase the vol. I have the tweed covered version of the legendary 7-100, so it sounds the same as the leatherette covered version. I was very surprised at the rich tone of this amp. I am using it with 6 AA's not the power supply (dont know what difference that makes tonally) and it sounds like a tweed champ. You can get clean tones that have just a touch of twang with single coils or weaker humbuckers (gretsch) at a lower volume and form 1/4 of the way up you get progressively more and more tweedish ( let's face it-tweed breakup is basically distortion that fuzzes up as the gain increases) type distortion. With a tele you are in rolling stones territory, and with a humbucker equipped guitar you are in Neil Young land. It is awesome for recording, just stick your mic in front and go! It takes pedals well also. I love the simplicity-no time spent tweaking controls, plug in and rock. That said; this is not an ideal amp for a young beginner guitar player. A young kid will not appreciate what this amp gives. But for experienced players who like a "tweed' tone at a dirt cheap price this cannot be beat. Also, dont listen to the nonsense from guys who own one of the "original" ones that these new ones are no good-that's crap. The circuit has not changed regardless of who constructs it.padraic9143
Mr. Chatter is a great. The Pignose sounds line a vintage amp that gives you vintage guitar sounds from the 60s and 70s. This is a real analog amplifier not digital modeling The. Pignose is hand made and a quality piece of gear that will give many years of enjoyment with its rugged construction and quality components. The Pignose is surprisingly loud and versatile. The output jack allows you to send the Pignose to an amp or power amp/PA. I recommend getting the wall wart to save battery usage for outside use. Even the adapter fits inside of the Pignose. I got the original brown and it goes with home decor very easily. The Pignose can do cleans, overdrive and fuzz tones and does well with single coil pickups. I picked this up for my son so he could practice around the house. Killer stocking stuffer! When the son is away the dad will now play. I started playing my Mustang Bass through this and it did the job. It's a small amp, not a practice amp. This is perfect for camping trips, rocking at the office or kicking it in the backyard. Took a chance on this and purchased it without every playing it. Watched video reviews on it and gave it a shot. Yes, I know that it's small in size, smaller than a kids lunchbox but I hoped it'd produce quality sound and what I got was muddy sounds at increased volumes. It's not clear sounding and my goal to play through an amp is to sound good and I felt if I actually played this in front of people, the muddyness would make me sound amateurish. So, for what you pay for this, yes, you get amplified but it's not real great quality, unless you're a metal player because you don't get a clean sound from this. The Heli Talk box at first will seem overwhelming, but after figuring out how to hook it up, and making sure you have everything you need to make it work. I went with the PRO set up. This is what you need,(ABY Switch) and a low out put amp (I recommend 40 Watts/ 8 ohms), a good stereo/speaker 1/4" wire, and a mic. It becomes something that I can't put into words. A great tool, and add on. This has added another instrument to my rig and I love using it for leads and making a song I am writing unique. If you want a challenge and different sound this is for you. I've been looking for this for years and I didn't even know it. Putting this in your effects loop let's you heat up the preamp tubes without shaking the walls. Being in a band with three guitarists, it's really helped my tone cut through the mix, hitting that natural break up by running my hot rod at about 2 o'clock, the sweet spot in my opinion. There's lots of options out there, or you can make a single pot volume box, but I love JHS' stuff and it's inexpensive. Buy it.Chris
Overall: I could have built a passive effects loop attenuator for about $20 less, however, this would be with an unpainted, low-quality enclosure. The box is flawless, the potentiometer is very smooth, etc. Based on how cranked my amp's volume and gain are the first 20% of the pot is the max i can go on full settings. If the volume/gain are at noon for example, the JHS Little Black Amp Box is about as exact ast you can get for volume increase/decrease (1/4 is about 1/4 volume, 1/2 is 1/2, etc all the way up to 100% / 100%). Overall, knowing what I could build for the cost, it was only a few dollars more for a top-quality unit and it's well worth it. The painted enclosure has a very nice feel and finish to it with no "bubbling" like you see on some budget units. This was my first JHS "pedal" but if they put this kind of care into all their pedals I will be seeking a few more from them.
This box is perfect for managing your stage volume on any amp with an effects loop. I use several different guitars during a gig. These guitars do not have the same output, but I manage my volume with the box … it also allows me to make overall volume changes without having to make adjustments to my amp. The Vox AC30 G2 headphone amp is a fun piece of equipment. It is quite versatile in the sense that it has a line out, so you can record though your software, analog equipment or whatever you are using to record guitar. There are half a dozen built in guitar effects, which can be activated by pressing the FX button. The LED will light up a different color based on which effect is activated. This amp is powered by 2 AAA batteries. This amp sounds like the classic Vox AC30; it has a classic 60's and 70's British rock sound. So it's not gonna sound like an overdriven Marshall stack with that heavy mid guitar sound. It will get kind of a Brian May type of sound. This is a fun amp, and it is perfect for practicing quietly . The durability seems weak, it's lightweight plastic, so it will take time to evaluate the longevity of this headphone amp. But so far so good.tom
First off, I'm a dabbler and not a professional. I bought this so I could practice on my electric guitar without disturbing everyone else. For that purpose it is excellent. The package comes with a small instruction pamphlet which is tucked into the folded cardboard backing. It's easy to miss it. You need the instructions because it's not obvious how to operate the device without them. But the instructions are easy to download as a PDF from the manufacturer's website. You're not going to replace all your pedals with this inexpensive device but it does include an impressive array of built-in features such as tremolo, reverb, distortion, tone and (I haven't tried it) Rhythm. It does a great job of mixing the AUX input with the input from the instrument. I use it with my laptop and Band in a Box. Adjust the AUX level at its source (the laptop or player) to an acceptable level and then use the controls on the amPlug to adjust the volume of the instrument to your taste. If you want the straight up Brit Grit of the VOX AC30 this little device delivers great sounding tones.It sounds very good clean, and GREAT with gain added. The distortion from the gain is tight, very bluesy, and provides the crunch for classic rock. I have played an Epiphone 335, a Gibson SG, and Fender Strat through the device and each instruments sounded good. But, the amp really brings out the blues tomes on the Gibson and Fender. The amp gets LOUD, maybe too loud if you care about damaging your hearing. I like my music loud enough to hear it, feel it, and be inspired by it, and I can accomplish this with a minimal volume adjustment. There are three effect settings; tremolo, reverb, and delay, but they are basically useless to me because i don't use effects, and the effects cannot be adjusted to serve any useful, or musically desirable purpose. For example, a little bit of delay can be cool, but the delay on this device is enough to make you dizzy, and the same can be said for the tremolo function. Reverb too… who uses reverb anymore? I am a hard core blues and classic rock guy and I think reverb is dated… I am spoiled though, I play through Fender tube amps and bells and whistles are not really my thing. All i need is myself, my guitar and red hot tube amp and I am good to go. And the from this standpoint the VOX AC30 gets the job done very well. (It) is fragile and one must be careful handling (it) and the guitar while (it) is attached to avoid breaking (it), but if you are careful (it) is just fine. By the way, (it) connected to the guitars I mentioned earlier without any problems. If you want to jam like a mad man without bothering anyone, this is the device to get. What a great sounding mini amp. I've had to use headphone mini amps for the last 15 years due to time constraints and location of practice area. I didn't want to use the precious practice time I had just to set up full size amp for only an hour or so and then return everything back to storage area. It was so much simpler and convenient just to plug a mini amp into my guitar, put on head set and play. Down side was always the quality of the mini amps I was using. I was getting them for around half of what a vox cost.. I always wanted a vox but they were expensive. After joining mf rewards club and making several purchases I bought my vox for about half price by applying my points to the purchase. I should have never waited. This vox is 10 times better than the cheaper brands. As soon as I opened the packaging and held it in my hand I could feel the quality. When I first plugged it in and started playing I got really upset. Not at the mini amp but at myself for waiting so long. I highly recommend buying this mini amp. Trust me. I have enjoyed playing with this headphone amp quite a bit. It is lightweight, has a lot of features for the price and is easy to use. The one set back I have experienced, is that the plug in jack does not lock in a position, it has loosened with use. I can reccomend this type of amp for anyone who wants to practice with volume and effects that should not disturb others. I will likely purchase other styles of this headphone amp in the future.
Cannot praise this device highly enough. It sounds great, and is ridiculously versatile for such a small device, comprising not only Gain, Tone and Volume controls, together with three levels each of effects options Chorus, Delay and Reverb, but also Clean, Crunch and Lead. Two AAA batteries are required (included), and give hours of usage. Just plug it into your guitar, attach headphones (decent pair of over-ear type are best, but don't need to be expensive) and, if wishing to practice over a track by your favourite band, simply attach an appropriate device such as a tablet or 'phone. If you require to free your amPlug2 sound from the confines of headphones, Vox also offer a mini, 2 watt, amPlug2 amp/speaker to which you attach your amPlug2 and play out loud (but not loud enough to annoy the neighbours. The wonderful Vox 50 watt amp/cab stack Mini Superbeetle Audio blue tooth speaker also doubles as a guitar amp, complete with amPlug2 compatibility, but at full volume, this would definitely annoy the next door neighbours, and possibly those further afield. The amPlug has given me new found freedom to play and practice without needing to wait for opportunities where it can be done without audibly intruding on the personal space of others in the household. I have subsequently invested in the equally good Classic Rock amPlug2 (and which, on balance, I prefer), together with both the aforementioned Vox Mini amPlug2 cab/speaker and Superbeetle Audio blue tooth amp/speaker stack. So I am writing this review after using it for a week straight and my conclusion is this: great sound for your buck. I've been reading some of these negative reviews and it's unbelievable that these reviews leave you thinking that this device should sound and act like a $500 amp but in all reality it is not. It's a practice amp used for those situations where noise level is an issue. It has great tones and great effects. Yes it's very limited, but you're not locked in to any one tone. Roll of on the gain and you have some Texas blues tones. As for the effects, they are good. Not the best, but good. If you're looking to jam out and practice your chops just get it. Don't listen to those negative reviews.
Seems as well built as the other options I've seen. Better tonal range than Vox and better than having to buy 2 or three devices. First impressions were not that good but as I've used it a bit more I can see me getting more used to it. I probably expected to much and was basing my hopes on the FLY amps. I think the effects are too limited to be worthwhile and would prefer Blackstar to focus on better amp tone. Still, I'm happy with it and for the type of device this is I know of nothing that sounds better. If I lost it I would probably look at the latest options but as it stands this is still the one I would buy. I think all of this type of device are over priced when you consider what a small amp costs but for portable practice in a small space it can't be beaten. Amazing bit of kit for the price! Clean, over drive and distortion channels in a small box the amps to headphones perfectly! Can’t really comment on the effects as not really tried them out! But if you need a tiny portable amp that connects to your headphone for practice i would throughly recommend! I use a Korg Pandora Mini multi effects processing unit to achieve a large spectrum of sounds. That is another unit that I recommend guitar players to use to compliment the sound and functionality of this Pignose Hog 20 amplifier. The Hog handles pedals very well, as I also unit a Biyang Compressor Unit and an Electro Harmonix Linear Boost Unit (both seperately). I have not tried a Distortion or High Gain pedal unit to achieve METAL-esk sounds but I am very sure (almost to a certainty) that this amplifier can handle it. I hope that my review has helped guitarists make an informed decision about this product. It is a very practical and inspiring product that EVERY guitarist should have as a practice aid. The Pignose Hog 20 is a RECHARGEABLE amplification unit that does what it is supposed to do; produces a clean sound. This sound is very clear and articulate. I will be yet another reviewer that mentions this amp's strong suit is it's CLEAN setting. The amplifier also has a TONE knob to adjust the brightness of the sound, as well as a SQUEAL knob to add an OVERDRIVE voice to the sound. This SQUEAL knob IS NOT a distortion knob. It is best used as a clean boost or to add a small amount of GRIT to the sound. If you are looking for a GAIN suited amplifier, this unit is NOT for you. If you are looking for an amplifier that inspires you to create and play than look no further. This amp is for you! This amplifier is 100% portable. Once the unit is fully charged one can easily take it to a park, garden, school, play ground, lake, beach, or ANY place that does not have an electrically input. Be warned; the juice on this unit only lasts for 8 hours so plan accordingly. The amplifier is very sturdy. Though it is small and compact, and can easily fit into the trunk of a car, it is somewhat heavy (weighing at about 15-20 pounds; maybe less). I can not attest to it's long term functionality for I have only owned it for a week. This amplifier is a STEAL! Its value and practical use far exceeds its cost. My only criticism of this product is that it takes 4-5 hours to charge in the wall before use. This is not an overwhelming disadvantage, only a point worth mentioning to potential buyers.
This product does exactly what I wanted it to. I have to play a wedding with my acoustic at an outdoor event this week where there is no electricity. With an acoustic guitar, you do have to watch where you place it because it will feedback if you're not positioned correctly, but that's no problem because I'm outside. The squeal knob is pretty much worthless to me, but maybe it's better with a solid body electric. I purchased a battery operated ZOOM MS-50G pedal, just to add some eq, compression, chorus, delay and reverb to the Pignose and I couldn't be happier with the results — especially when you consider that this is a battery operated amp.inthesticks53
Don't think this amps 20 watts will be loud. My Jca22h 20w will bury this amp on less than 1. Most 15w and some 10w amps will out do the pig by a long shot[even a 5 watt tube amp] The pig does'nt have a lot of clean headroom either but it's enough for what it's for. It has a decent crunch and distorts easily with humbuckers at higher volume. I don't personally care for the "squeal" knob.Too much "odd" harmonics. What its good for is that it's rechargeable, super portable, and the charge lasts a good bit with the dual beefy battery packs in the back. You can take this anywhere and play. No electric….no problem. And that's a good thing. The best feature is the built in battery packs that can be recharged. Lasts quite a while on a charge too. Well built. Feels and looks solid. You can buy a Fender champion 600 tube amp for the same money or a Fender frontman 25 for less but they're either much larger and you have to have juice to run them. I bought this to record audio in the field as I had no access to a studio. I needed something quick and inexpensive. The box did prevent ambient sound from getting into the recording and the audio worked well enough for the project. However, the sound proof foam was hard to work with because it's too flimsy to stand on its own. The box include a tape like substance for the top edge but it didn't hold the foam. The foam for the side would also fall over. I tried using two-sided tape but it wouldn't stick to the foam. I even tried Gaffer's tape but it also would not stick to the foam. I ended up holding the foam up while the audio was being recorded. In the end it worked fine but dealing with the foam was not fun.Dan B.
Main issue, foam constantly falls and droops. I suppose they could be used in a pinch but they are falling apart from day one. It doesn't even make sense how the foam is supposed to stay in there. Something simple like Velcro or a binder clip could greatly improve the foam attachment.Demetrious
For anyone on a budget, needing sound-proofing to reduce background noise while recording, this portable booth box may be just what you are looking for. I live in an apartment and I have limited space for a recording studio, so my recording facility must be compact. And because I live in an apartment — a studio to be specific — background noise and ambient sound is ever-present. The PSIB27 effectively creates a sound barrier around my MIC, cutting noise substantially. However, this sound-proof box alone, will not eliminate background noise entirely for me and my situation. To further increase noise reduction, I have to use the "noise reduction" feature in either Cool Edit or Audacity — the recording/editing software I use to make my recordings. Of course, if you live in a quieter area or have a room that is better isolated from background noise, the PSIB27 may shield background noise even more … maybe even 90 to 100 percent. But I will not make the claim that this item will absolutely eliminate your background noise. Your results, like mine, will vary. Sound: I’m very happy with the sound quality. It may not sound identical to the original speakers modeled but honestly I don’t have that good of an ear to know the difference. I do know my high gain and crunch patches with the Vintage or Green sound just like I want, and for clean-ish tones the Essex with a Vox amp does the job quite nicely. Whether it has the mythical “amp in the room” sound or not is going to be up to each user’s own ears. I will say it sounds more organic and amp-like than any FRFR I’ve used and leave it at that. Features: This has so many features it’s hard to list what I find most useful. Physical features like being fairly lightweight and having tiltback legs are certainly helpful to an old guy like me. The tiltback seems extreme but it works well and I don’t feel the need for an amp stand. MIDI or L6 link to remotely change cabinets with each patch is great, and with the L6 link it can easily be done within each patch. I also like that the L6 link runs audio and data. Why use 2 cables when you can to it all with one? The ability to use it as a standard FRFR to run IR is another cool feature and I like that if I need to I can go direct to FOH via through the PC+ and use a separate IR to FOH and speaker modeling in the cab. Lastly, this can be used with any modeler. You can send MIDI messages via standard 5 pin MIDI cable to change speakers and IR within patches from just about any modeling product. If something ever trumps the Helix, I’ll still have a great cab to pair it with. Ease of Use: It’s incredibly easy to get good sounds. Turn the knob on the top until you get a speaker you like. The speaker modeling sounds great. I’ve dabbled with some of the IR’s and they sound great too. Some folks have complained that it doesn’t have enough volume but that’s not been the case with me. You will need to make sure the output levels on your modeler are properly set to get the most volume and avoid clipping. If you aren’t familiar with how to do this, I would suggest checking out YouTube videos by Jason Sadites or Steve Sterlacci on how to properly set patch levels. It’s super easy and mostly common sense, but something a lot of folks overlook. And don’t forget to include your solo boosts when setting levels!! Quality: By all appearances it seems very well built and sturdy and has a quality feel. I know there are people using these on the road and that also says a lot about the build quality. It’s been tossed in and out of my trunk a few times now with minimal wear and tear showing. It would be nice if it was made of birch and covered with Tolex, but that would only add to the cost and weight. As it is the box is solid. Value: At first glance $799 seems expensive for a 1×12 cab. However, when you consider what it can do that others can’t and then compare it to other 1×12 FRFR that are $1,000 and up it starts becoming a better and better value. If you don’t need MIDI or remote speaker switching, then there’s also the standard Powercab that’s a couple hundred less. Sounds the same just not as many features. Manufacturer Support: Over the years I’ve purchased quite a bit of Line6 gear and they have always provided me with great support. They have a very good user forum with plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people and Line6 also has reps in some of the larger gear forums. Line6 has a good history of product updates as well. The PC+ has already received an update with some additional features and I expect they will continue to update as needed. They seem to do a pretty good job of listening to their customers when it comes to requesting features etc. The Wow Factor: Speaker modeling, FRFR, and IR all in one cab that sounds really good. That’s pretty wow to me! I think this will appeal to players like myself who use modeling and are looking for the best sound without a lot of fussing, or just plain don’t like the sound of an FRFR as much as a normal amp and cab. Overall: I just went back to Helix after using Mesa MKV and Friedman JJ amps. The band doesn’t play a lot of gigs that require miking up the guitars or using direct FOH, so the speaker I chose had to sound great on its own and not just something to monitor myself with. The last time I went down the FRFR road it didn’t work out very well. I know it’s not the boxes it’s me, but regardless I got tired of constantly trying to find the right IR or thinking I found one that sounded good at home only to have it sound like crap at band volume yada yada. When I was researching speakers for the Helix I heard a lot of great things about the Powercab so I thought I’d give it a shot. The speaker modeling is somewhat unique, and I thought it might be the shorter path to better tone for me. It arrived 2 days after I ordered and the set up was very easy. I had already decided to use L6 link instead of XLR because I wanted to remotely control the cab via the Helix and not have to set up MIDI. Everything I expected from Line 6. This Power Cab Plus 112 is blowing my mind right now. I usually never go with solid state amps. I've been playing through Fender Deluxe Reverbs, Hot Rod Deluxe' and my latest Fender Princeton Reverb. These are for sure amazing go to amps. However, to my ears, with the HELIX LT that I play through, I'm getting similar tones and even more using the built-in speaker models that come with stock with the Power Cab Plus 112. I've never had this much versatility in a rig before. I love it. I also use the genuine Line 6 L6 Link cable (witch is just a good quality AES/EBU cable) connected between my HELIX LT and the Power Cab Plus 112 so that I can change speaker models on the fly with my presets. I really can't ask for more. Simple, light weight, professional sounding tones, all at my toe tips. This is good times for sure.FELIX
I had high hopes, when I saw that Line 6 was offering powered speaker cabs, I thought wow ! Like the Tech 21 Power Engine but better !!!! Wrong… I sold my pair of Tech 21 Power Engines when I purchased a pair of these cabs… wrong move. I unpacked the Power Cabs and thought .. BEAUTIFUL !!! Sturdy, stylish… when I plugged in my HELIX…. I literally could not get a usable sound out of it, I fiddled for hours. After a few days of fiddling with new presets I was able to get a decent basic sound so I thought I was golden. I took it out for on gig doing a outdoor surf meet event… OUCH ! Fizzy, treble ridden, buzz saw city. I could not even get a decent volume from it, the tone because it was so "HIFI" was so buried in the mix I could barely hear myself. Besides the lack of volume, I could not believe the absolute atrocious tone I was getting(think BUZZSAW). This is not a good match for a helix or any floor processors or modelers. I regret getting rid of my Tech 21's they were a tad noisy but they sounded 100% better than these. I keep hearing and seeing the reviews for the Plus version, but seems odd that for something that is supposed to simply amplify the sound you get from your Helix would do such a poor job. WIth the covers and the shipping I paid mucho dinero so saying I am unhappy is an understatement. I've been told with tweaking you can get the cab to sound good, I've spent hours doing this. I don't think its possible. Avoid this… I have been using my cabs as vocal monitors, just because I would get smashed if I tried to sell them. I've used this for one gig, maybe 6 times at rehearsal, sadly they are horrible, giving it 2 stars is quite generous….Guitar Kahuna
