How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad

I am really impressed with the Behringer VT999. I own one of the original Tube Works BK Butler designed Real Tube Overdrives. For the last 30 years it has been the Standard by which I judge all overdrive effects and I have tried just about everything else out. The VT999 is the only overdrive that I have found to date that matches the tone of the BK Butler. Everything from subtle warmth boost to pure crunch it's in there. Used as a pre amp you can get a Vintage Marshal tone out of a Fender twin. I absolutely love this effect.
Honestly, the only complaint I have about this pedal is that instead of being constantly on or off, the light blinks, and that's just a personal quirk; it's not cause for a lost star. More importantly, the tone of the pedal is quite good. It preserves the natural warmness of tone already present in my Gretsch, and even adds a bit when tweaked. As well, the high, mid, and low controls are very effective in tweaking sound; each one makes a big difference, so definitely spend some time working with the levels. The range of gain is quite good. I can get a light overdrive from it all the way to a screaming distortion. I usually keep it between 10:00 and 11:00, and that allows me to play softly with a less noticeable drive, and play harder for a dirtier tone that stands out more. More expensive pedals may have more options, but for the price, this pedal is a steal. Seriously, the build quality is good; it's a metal chassis, and feels quite solid. The knobs do feel like a cheaper plastic, but I haven't have any breakage issues, and for the price, it's a nonissue (I mean seriously, even if I have to replace the knobs in the long run, it's still well worth it).rogue_danar
This thing takes up a lot of real estate on your pedal board, but all in all, for the price, it is worth it. It's a very good clone to the very old original Marshall guv'ner pedal from the 80's. And it is just as Big! If you are looking for a metal pedal, this is not it. This does a really good job at everything from a little crunchy blues, to heavy 80's style rock and roll overdrive. The very first thing you must do when you order this beast, is also order a quality 12ax7 tube for it. The one that is in it is garbage. It's a Bugera 12ax7C junk from china. Order any of the 12ax7 tubes. it doesn't have to be a C tube.I currently have a 12ax7A in it now. It's very easy to change tubes. There are reviews of it all over youtube and they all say the same thing. Change the tube. But once you do, it's a very very good pedal. When you take the cost of the pedal, plus a replacement tube, you're still way below the price of anything else close to it. And it performs better. It works like an additional preamp to help drive your guitar amp. I've used it on a Fender Super Champ XD combo, and an Orange Micro terror and a Acoustic brand solid state 100 watt head. (Acoustic brand, not an amp for acoustic guitar). It works great in all of them. It also accepts booster pedals in front of it really nice. I have put an Xotic boost in front and also a Soul Food with the gain all the way down and volume up (makes it a boost pedal). They both have worked great. It has a built in switchable noise gate that works great with single coil pickups to knock down the hum. If you have room on your board, I highly recommend this pedal over just about any other drive pedal under 300 euros. Really! It's that good! Dialing it in is about the same as a drive channel of a quality tube amp. A balancing act between gain and volume. It is highly responsive to pick attack. So when you are setting your knobs, pick hard and gentle and find that sweet spot in between. Has bass, treble and mid tone knobs too, just like a quality amp. Not just one single tone knob. What a great pedal. Case is extremely durable powder coated steel. I have been burned by cheap products from Bugera and Behringer in the past, and so I was a little leery of giving them another chance, but I am very glad I did. Youtube reviews is what gave me the courage to give it a shot. I am really glad I did. Order one today, and get an inexpensive JJ tube at the same time. No need to step up for a high end select Mullard or anything. Just something different than the stock tube that comes with it. Stock tube gives it very muddy mids and sounds almost out of tune in the higher frequencies. But with the JJ man this thing really rocks. and the eq knobs are highly responsive. It’s an Ibanez tube screamer, so of course it’s wicked. Easy to use, bombproof, and gives you that extra bit of oomf for a big solo. If you want pure dirty blues then I’d go for the 808, but the TS9 is great for rock, it’s got a slightly brighter more aggressive tone. These things really shine with a Strat, but they sound just as great with whatever guitar you’re using, and they are just loads and loads of fun. The tube screamers are, I think, a foundational building block of getting a good blues tone out of your rig. Obviously, your guitar and amp will have a big impact on your sound, but this pedal can help you find that special sweet spot of tone. Being an overdrive pedal rather than a hard distortion pedal, do not expect the long singing sustains you would get from a traditional distortion pedal, but more of a crunch, an added grit. I think the pedal will interface well with a distortion device like OCD, and spatial pedals like MXR Carbon copy, and TC electronics hall of fame… if you can afford them… they are expensive… the price you pay for quality. If you are into blues, this is the pedal. If you are into hard rock, this pedal is good in front of a layered chain of distortion pedals to over drive some killer tones.Jim in the box

This pedal is worth the hype 100%… If you're reading the right hype! It's an awesome pedal for that classic rock crunch, pushing an already hot tube amp over board into perfect leads! Think glam, early punk, and especially britpop like Oasis! One last important note to all the jokers complaining that it's not "transparent" enough… Guess what, it's not supposed to be! Do some research, watch some videos… This is the best of the best of SOFT CLIPPING overdrive pedals. Soft clipping means it adds mid tone grit that isn't there to cut through the mix beautifully. If you want a "transparent" drive pedal that completely keeps the tone of your guitar like an amp being turned up a bit, you want a BLUES BREAKER or a similar clone. Most satisfied with this overdrive unit. With my Tele on wide open volume for solos, along with compression on guitar, the guitar becomes a driving force of sound even if direct thru a channel on your board as opposed to an amplifier. But, the direct location of the amp or pa speaker in relation to the guitar will create a musical feedback response without turning around and trying to shove your guitar face first into the speaker as some do. It does a good job with overdrive and also compresses as well. My foundation is a Schecter semi-hollow that I've gutted and replaced with 50s wiring, vintage taper volume pots and unpotted humbuckers – my amp is Swart with RCA tubes throughout. Plugged straight in to amp, I can roll the volume and tone control on the guitar to get a lot of tonal variations. The tubescreamer colors all the nice things that great tubes produce. I think a more transparent overdrive like a Klon clone would suit my setup better and they can be constantly on all the time – the tubescreamer is different and not in a bad way as it is really cool at what it does. I can see it being well suited to warm and fatten the bridge pickup in a strat when playing leads. It has a nice buffer – just wish the buffer was on all the time. Fantastic quality. The tone is great and although I have other overdrive pedals like Boss, this one has immediately gone on my pedalboard. What you don't hear in the demo videos is NOISE, but life is full of compromise. Low budget? No place to open up 50 or 100 watts? It does have nice tone characteristics. I have 3 different to test drive. A Blackstar Stereo 20, Marshall MG10, Carvin SX50 – It definitely adds to the built in varity of the Blackstar; okay with the Carvin; sounds like crap with the Marshall. You can not "overdrive" the amps natural overdrive. You have to run it into a realitivly clean sound. The noise gate peters out the signal on sustained notes, which can be taxing. This overdrive pedal is used by many pros now in their pedal chain to layer gain stages and I fully understand why now. The noise gate is an excellent addition to my chain, smooth saturation and warm distortion to screaming high gains. Don't be afraid to turn the knobs really low, you will be much more impressed if you do and will likely have better results. This pedal delivers what is promised. Yes it is a tube screamer clone, but it has more gain on tap, and the 3 way selector switch allows for more crunch and compression or to use as a boost as well as the the normal Tubescreamer functions. The down side with this is that I clearly received a pedal that had been opened before and was missing all the inserts, device instruction, warranty slip, sticker etc.. This may not seem like the biggest deal but that means this product isn't new. Just like physical retailers do it should have been sold at a discount and I should have been sent a new pedal because that was what I ordered. I just recently received another pedal from them "new" that didn't even come in a box it was just bubble wrapped which makes me think it was a floor model. Not new at all. Very disappointed.Micah

I have been really enjoying adding this pedal to my collection. Great clarity, plenty of gain and volume. A working tone knob is not as common as you would think since it is on most overdrive pedals but this is one that works and has a good usable range unlike some other brands I shouldn't have to mention. First of all let me say I also have the G1ON and bought the G1X Four for the enhanced features and so I'd have one with the expression pedal. I sold all my tube amps when I was laid off, retired and moved to Mexico. My reference point is tweed and blackface era tube amps. I gotta say, once you learn how to dial in the tones you want, these little plastic boxes do a pretty decent job of amp and effects modeling. Like the G1ON, the G1X 4 does a good job of imitating the touch and volume control dynamics of a cranked tube amp at any volume. I really like the Deluxe Reverb, AC30 and DC30 simulations. The G1ON has more vintage style amp types to choose from, and in that regard it is more useful to e. Two kinds of spring reverb, one eats up a lot of memory but really sounds lush like an external unit along with the other types (room, plate, hall, church, etc.). Tremolo is built into the Fender models that have tremolo along with a couple of very configurable trems and rotating speaker effects. The G1 4 does NOT have the Z Organ effect the G1ON does, boo hoo. Beyond that, there are tons of effects to play with and they all sound good to my ears. I currently have 3 small amp setups. 1. Quilter 101 mini docked in their 10" BlockDock cab. 2. Quilter MicroBlock 45 pedal teamed with a 5E3 pine cab with a Emi Legend 12" and 3. an old Carvin SX50 1×12". I can get all three do to do the Deluxe Reverb,Vox AC15/30, E and F series Tweed tones that don't make me miss my tube amps. Wish I would have had the G1ON and the 17.7lb Quilter 1×10" combo back when I was in a blues band and gigging. Interface improvements from the G1ON… Improved display allows for more descriptive/longer patch names. Four pots act as master vol, bass, middle, treble during performance mode for global tone and volume tweeking. The four pots also make adjusting settings easier. For several years now, my pedalboard has had only ONE guitar "FX" pedal. First it was the G1Xon. Now it's the G1Xfour. I play both acoustic AND electric thru the pedal, and they BOTH sound great! Though I've played for over 40 years, I'm not a professional musician and rarely play out; but I do play a lot at home and IMO this is the best VALUE "name brand" guitar multi-FX pedal on the market. I can't speak to it's use in a live setting , that's not what I bought this for but to have at home to record whether bedroom music or demos it's perfect. The effects are great they're easy to use, the older Zoom models were a bit laborious to set up and get sounding right but this has enough knobs to feel like you are just setting up any stand alone pedal. The distortions, the delays, reverbs etc are all good but it's the amp modelling and the EQ options that make it a great little tool to work with. No amp or no room for one in your apartment where your neighbours will pound the walls if you so much as sneeze too loud? No problem !!! this little guy's got you covered. A little tinkering and your demos sound better, a little more and you can get a reasonably good sound for home recordings. The looper is great, its easy to use. The tuner is good. What's not to love ? Plug this into your computer or your four-track or whatever recording devise you've got on with the earphones and you have a decent sounding pedal board and amp which takes up as much space as a box of chocolates. No one will be any the wiser. I'm sure I sound like an absolute shill for Zoom. I don't care I have a bunch of their gear and I love it all. Is it built to survive the apocalypse? No. Most of the stuff I own is plastic. Is it as warm and distinctive as Electro-harmonix or Boss ? No, but it's cheap and it's solid and it works. Is it going to sound perfect through your huge amp? I don't know but it's probably not the point. Me – I make music at home with cheap gear because I have no money or space. Zoom are a gift to home recorders everywhere. And thanks to everyone at DV247 as well. Very helpful during a difficult time to get products shipped efficiently.

Overall: This thing is great. I have been searching for the right pedal to use with my electric violin that is versatile and gives me strange sounds if I need them. This pedal does it all. I use it with a light rock acoustic type band, a gypsy lounge jazz group (from originals to Kashmir by Zep), and an electronic project that I am working on. Its sturdy (I dropped it a couple times) easy to program with almost an infinite amount of possibilities. Totally worth the price! My next pedal of any sort will be an electro harmonix.PS – when I used the Cathedral Pipe Organ with the mandolin it freaked my family right out. Because the kids are older, rarely do they peek in anymore to see what I'm up to. The Pipe Organ did it. So cool. First, I love this pedal. As a keyboardist, organist & guitarist, from the moment I plugged this in and from the first notes, I fell in love with the sonic possibilities of the multi-octave generators right from the start. After all, that's how the organ can grow to such a monstrous cacophony of tones: simply by stacking octaves. But this pedal goes further by allowing you to set the level for each particular octave. Amazing concept. The attack delay, LPF & detune, and their button controls, also round this pedal out as a fantastic tone shaping tool. Simply put, it is an amazing sounding pedal. Polyphonic tracking is dead on, sans audio glitches (except for that with my noise gate, below). The eight preset slots at first don't seem like enough memory for all the different settings this pedal can handle, but the more I use it, the more that eight become more than enough. Very intuitive. The only sonic downside I noticed was when I had this pedal installed after my preamp and Silencer noise gate, the gate seems to mess with the polyphonic tracking of the POG; this was quickly remedied by placing the POG first in the signal chain before the gate. This is a bit on the pricy side for an EHX pedal, but if you have the cash, it is well worth the money for everything it can do. You will love how it makes your guitar sound.JOHN
Primarily bought this unit to substitute for a bass in home recording. Set all the other octaves and the original signal to zero and the -1 octave to full. With my Strat played through my Fender Rumble 150 the bass sound is ideal for home recording. Not suggesting it would replace a bass at live gigs, although it could possibly in a pinch. With the +1 octave at maximum and the original signal at 3/4 and the others all at zero it emulates a twelve string within limits. By that I mean if you use a jangley strum style and emphasize the third and fourth strings you can get a near twelve string sound. The other settings result in some interesting sounds but nothing I have yet found a practical purpose for. It is a bit pricey but appears to be well built and durable. I said it was mostly what I hoped for because it did exactly as I had hoped as a bass substitute but I was hoping for a more realistic twelve string sound.PMc

It could be a little noisy and unpredictable at times, but overall really cool sounds could come out of this pedal, if you're looking to add some dirty octave sounds to your riffs or leads, you'd really like this one, could dial retro arcade like sounds, could make your guitar sound broken, or just turn it into a noisy octave mayhem. This is probably one of my favorite wah-wah pedals. the classic crybaby sound, but with a controllable q, no switch, and auto-return. i used this wah heavily and only decided to sell it once they announced the new mini auto-return wah, which i needed to make some pedalboard space. if they didn't release that, i'd still be using this wah. it's definitely worth it over the regular crybaby. sounds better and has a significantly better sounding buffer.it's got your usual wear, is missing the battery coveer, and the baseplate is a bit bent in the front, but this doesn't effect the pedal at all. works 100% like a charm.

This is the best version of the crybaby IMHO. It is spring-loaded and to engage the unit you just step on it(no tapping a switch to engage the wah) As described by many musicians it makes a great cocked wah as well I use stacks of picks to get the sound I want. It has a "Q" adjustment for tone and a pushbutton gain boost. You get all the above at a very nice price point. The sound is stellar and very musical. I love it.Greg
Well I have had this pedal for 2 years now so I thinks it's time I can provide a fair review. I play gigs almost daily with this thing on my pedalboard. I use it a lot too! love wahs for funk covers and solo work. I ran into an incident with the spring arm breaking at a gig a few weeks ago (the part that return the pedal to "up" position). It just snaped an fell out from underneath the rocker. Looking at it, it seems pretty solid, it's like 3-ply, just wore the hell out. kinda had some rust on it too from moisture which probably contributed. I like the auto return, but only sometimes. You cannot rock to a tone and leave it there, which ive now found I actually quite enjoy now that my auto return is broken. also, the delay from the time the effect disengages can be noticable & bothersome depending on what you're playing.Its a little overkill on the features though (it's a wah afterall)I don't want this thing adding color to my sound. The Q is something u would only do once to tune the thing to where you like it and then never touch. being exposed with a knob makes it suceptible to getting accidentally adjusted during transit and such.All in all, good pedal I guess. i dont think I would buy this one again for me, its overkill and mine broke(was well used for 2 years though)MudflapKing
I have had this pedal for 20 years, and just pulled it out of a gear bin covered in dust, and untouched for years. I fully expecting to have issues with it, and to my surprise it worked perfectly, and sounds great. The spring action return, and auto-off features are great, and there is none of the squeakiness that my other crybaby wah's develop over time. No idea why I stopped using this, but it's replacing my Kirk Hammett Wah on my board now.Shane Wright

I use this pedal for solo boost, 3 band eq is nice. There is much more going on with this pedal. I keep tinkering with it on its own to push my tube amps. Get this pedal if you aren't cutting through the band during your solos. Find your rhythm sound and then when it comes solo time, stomp on the tank and you will cut right through! I'm looking at other Fender pedals as well I think they are the under dog hidden gem of pedals out there. My advise get it!! If u don't like it, you will easily find someone who does!!Greg R

Zvex channel 2 boost. channel 2 has two knobs, one controlling master volume and the other controlling gain, which sweeps from unity to +24db. connect a music equipment power supply of 9vdc, center negative, to the power jack for use. there is no battery in your channel 2. the gain control adjusts both the gain and dc bias on the mosfet transistor at the same time, causing a rushing noise when adjusted. this is normal. at low gains, your channel 2 has an input impedance of 5 million ohms, giving your guitar a very sparkly texture when plugging directly in, with no other pedals or tuner between. this will clear up even the longest, dullest-sounding guitar cord.with the master turned up, the channel 2 is exactly the same as our famous super hard-on pedal! with the master volume turned down, the gain can be used to create clear, natural sounding distortion. or, if you prefer to overdrive your favorite amp, leave the master up and let er rip!

Overall great little pedal for the money. I found it really responsive to picking dynamics and EXTREMELY responsive to the guitar's tone control. You can go from snarling nasal distortion to thick chucking crunch just by turning your tone knob down. I bought this to use almost like two distortion pedals. I recently joined a 50s & 60s cover band. So I needed something that would clean up and play nice on stuff like "Johnny B. Goode," (single Muff) but also be able to fuzz it up for some "White Rabbit," and "Purple Haze," action (double muff). This distortion isn't exactly dynamic and nuanced but put a clean boost in front of it and you can get some satisfying sustain on it. This sucker pairs up very well with my wah pedal too. Someday I'll probably drop serious coin on something a little more "elegant" but for now this pedal will scratch the itch. It's simple to operate and you can get a lot of variety out of it based on how you play, but you have to know what you're doing. If you're a "set everything to 11" kinda guy this pedal's not gonna do it for you. I like the two Muff circuits. That is a cool idea. Not a lot of bells and whistles, but that's what I want… simplicity. I'm not the kind of guy who needs to be able to surf the web and file my tax returns on my effects pedals. I just want decent sound without breaking the bank. I also dig the smaller "nano" size, fits easily on even the most cluttered pedal board. Seems to be rock solid so in that aspect it gets hight remarks. There are some things that could be beefier, like the switch to select between single and double Muff circuits for example. I like to switch this with my toes. Looks like it won't stand up to much abuse. The pedal also makes an audible "thud" noise when you switch it on. If you time it correctly it actually sounds really cool. But it's not exactly "smooth" in operation. There is also a bit of hiss or noise but nothing you can't work around. I found that rolling the guitar's tone knob down a bit does a LOT to reduce this. The price is right!!! This is plenty of distortion at an easy price tag.veryhappy
I really didn't this was a big deal. Then I got a Green Russian BigMuff. It didn't sound so great on my Vox. For kicks I ran this pedal in to the Russian. Suddenly it sounded right. It gave the BigMuff exactly what is always missing on a BigMuff…mids. Then I tried this infront of all kinds of drives. The same thing every time. It just seemed like the pedal sounded right. I challenge you. Get one and drop it in front of a BigMuff and you'll finally have the mids you always needed in the mix with a band.DudeMan
I use this with a fender champ II (18watts, similar to a Princeton but without reverb and trem) set to a medium overdrive, and the pedal (set to single) at about three-o'clock, back off the guitars volume a bit and it's a wonderful driving rhythm sound, back off the guitars volume a lot and it's sparkly clean, push the guitars volume up all the way and it's absolute sonic joyful mayhem!
