I'm not a guitar guy so I can't speak to its abilities in that respect, but with this pedal as a new resident in my synths effects loop I think I will be keeping it plugged in indefinitely. The POG has an excellent ability to fatten up whatever you put through it, or work it almost like a filter and turn a synth loop anemic by sending it all through the octaver, only to reintroduce the sub and dry later on for a great effect. I could go on and on, but it'll be more fun if you buy one yourself and see what I am talking about first hand.
Dry signal integrity is good but as soon as you bring in the octave up or down, the sound becomes very synthetic, it takes all the punch out of the guitar. I don't think it sounds good with open or barre chords, the most you can get away with is a power chord. If you want to make video game music this could be cool, or for some limited effects when you are recording. It sounds like a synthesizer or an organ. It has a very good buffered bypass if you're worried about that. I tried it clean and with some OD and fuzz and I don't think it enhances the tone, it is much more of a special effect than anything, and its too expensive to be so limited. Gets 2 stars because EHX is quality and doesn't deserve 1.Adam

Overall: This thing is great. I have been searching for the right pedal to use with my electric violin that is versatile and gives me strange sounds if I need them. This pedal does it all. I use it with a light rock acoustic type band, a gypsy lounge jazz group (from originals to Kashmir by Zep), and an electronic project that I am working on. Its sturdy (I dropped it a couple times) easy to program with almost an infinite amount of possibilities. Totally worth the price! My next pedal of any sort will be an electro harmonix.PS – when I used the Cathedral Pipe Organ with the mandolin it freaked my family right out. Because the kids are older, rarely do they peek in anymore to see what I'm up to. The Pipe Organ did it. So cool. First, I love this pedal. As a keyboardist, organist & guitarist, from the moment I plugged this in and from the first notes, I fell in love with the sonic possibilities of the multi-octave generators right from the start. After all, that's how the organ can grow to such a monstrous cacophony of tones: simply by stacking octaves. But this pedal goes further by allowing you to set the level for each particular octave. Amazing concept. The attack delay, LPF & detune, and their button controls, also round this pedal out as a fantastic tone shaping tool. Simply put, it is an amazing sounding pedal. Polyphonic tracking is dead on, sans audio glitches (except for that with my noise gate, below). The eight preset slots at first don't seem like enough memory for all the different settings this pedal can handle, but the more I use it, the more that eight become more than enough. Very intuitive. The only sonic downside I noticed was when I had this pedal installed after my preamp and Silencer noise gate, the gate seems to mess with the polyphonic tracking of the POG; this was quickly remedied by placing the POG first in the signal chain before the gate. This is a bit on the pricy side for an EHX pedal, but if you have the cash, it is well worth the money for everything it can do. You will love how it makes your guitar sound.JOHN
Primarily bought this unit to substitute for a bass in home recording. Set all the other octaves and the original signal to zero and the -1 octave to full. With my Strat played through my Fender Rumble 150 the bass sound is ideal for home recording. Not suggesting it would replace a bass at live gigs, although it could possibly in a pinch. With the +1 octave at maximum and the original signal at 3/4 and the others all at zero it emulates a twelve string within limits. By that I mean if you use a jangley strum style and emphasize the third and fourth strings you can get a near twelve string sound. The other settings result in some interesting sounds but nothing I have yet found a practical purpose for. It is a bit pricey but appears to be well built and durable. I said it was mostly what I hoped for because it did exactly as I had hoped as a bass substitute but I was hoping for a more realistic twelve string sound.PMc

This pedal manages to deliver in every application. Vintage mode is my favorite, and the tracking is excellent (but also delightfully glitchy as was the OC-2). Poly mode with the adjustable lower octave is very useful as well. Unlike other octave pedals this thing sounds incredibly fat, with a nice mid-heavy octave sound that really cuts through a mix. The tracking it pretty amazing and the option to dial in how many strings you want to have affected in the Poly mode is a great addition to it's multiple options. I`m using this effect on bass just to have another trick in the bag, to me it sounds better on the D & G strings. It doesn`t come with a power supply and it is very picky about it. I`m using it with rechargeable 9 V batteries in order to avoid another cable on the floor and it will last me for about 10 hours. With batteries pay attention to the LED, the moment you see it dim replace the battery or it will stop sounding in no time.If that happen performing, you can remove the output cable and plug it into the "direct out" jack until you can replace the battery. And yes, it will drain out the battery if you have the cable connected to the pedal even if the pedal is "off" that`s why I replace the battery before a performance or practice with the band.Or you can use a power supply and avoid all this.Made in Malaysia. I admit that I'm fairly new to fuzz & octave fx. I've had a hard time finding and Octavia that works with a variety of guitars and pickup combos. I plugged this in, set everything at "noon" and played. It immediately responded with a useable tone. With minimal tweaking, I found a tone that worked on both my clean channel and on my dirty channel. It responds nicely to singles & p90's, and I only have to touch the volume on my LP to get a good tone. As a bass player in a fusion band playing in a small bar weekly, I find myself getting buried in the sound during my soloing. If you're looking for a killer octave pedal in a small enclosure, it doesn't get any better than this! The tracking is top notch and the feature set includes everything you want, but nothing that you don't need. I was able to quickly dial in great tones on both my active & passive basses — the clean blend knob & mids button are extremely helpful in terms of compensating for different bass pickups. Nothing will top the Foxrox Octron2 on my big board, but for a compact board this bests all of the small octave pedals I've tried (Boss, EBS, Original MXR, Aguilar). It would have been helpful to have included the level trimmer on the exterior of the pedal (in the form of a 4th knob); additionally, I would have preferred that Dunlop spare the wall wart adapter & drop the price somewhat, since the vast majority of users will utilize a micro pedal like this on a powered board. Chances are you need this for bass tones in the poly mode.. sounds great on some things, and not so much on others. The bass frequency sounds a bit artificial. You'll find that it also degrades the output volume of your signal as well, so a boost or eq pedal is a nice addition with it, it seems. I did use this in a Bose house surround system and it sounded absolutely stunning. A nice addition on the right song.William
Great pedal with the polyphonic mode and ability to limit the range of effect enabled only low note on the guitar to be taken to the lower octave. Great to have your own bass player under your thumb on the low strings. Highly recommended for solo players wanting to expand their tones into the lower octaves with good tracking of the original signal. The Boss OC-3 Super Octave is a fantastic guitar pedal for creating unique/different/interesting lead tones. I personally like mine set Level 04:00, Oct Level 1 03:00, Oct Level 2 (dimed) full on, and mode set to Drive. This works with my Gibson Les Paul Standard to achieve that Led Zepplin/Jimmy Page "Fool in the Rain" solo tone. If you are looking for a different sound this is a good choice. The OC-3 is capable of so much more too. Boss pedals really are the best. I have been playing guitar for over 34 years and have been through tons of gear. Boss pedals sound great, are reliable, and are easy to replace especially if you travel as every music store carries them. Please remember this is just my opinion as sound is very subjective.

There are a lot of full-featured reverb pedals on the market today, most of them with some sort of shimmer/octave/pitch-shifting mode. A few things set this pedal apart from its counterparts. First off is just the amount of control you get over the processed signal. Being able to mix the signal heading into the reverb circuit, the reverb unit itself, and then the final blend, lets you get sounds that are just not possible on 4-knob units. Everything from subtle to watery to full-on church-organ psychedelia. Next, you get three memory banks to save your creations. You could use Red for no-frills reverb, blue for slight modulation, and red for the crazy stuff. Or just save different flavors of crazy stuff in all three, it's up to you. Lastly, you've also got the option of running it in stereo if you'd like (which really amplifies the effect), plugging in an expression pedal for realtime control of the reverb, and also plugging in a two-button controller to make the buttons more accessible if the Descent finds a home at the back of your pedalboard. Overall: I have become an even bigger fan of Slash since his work with Myles Kennedy. I feel like he is one of the most melodic rock leads out there at the moment (just my opinion).I was really surprised by how much I actually like this pedal. It is really easy to get some awesome sounding riffs with this pedal, the tone is beautiful on this with the octaves. The build quality is superb as expected from MXR. I got this pedal because I’m a slash fan, this pedal is great at getting close to the lead tones for solos on paradise city. It is also just a great octa fuzz to cover all needs. I heard the demos online and liked the tones. I tried it at the store, played around for about 5 minutes, liked it and bought it. At home, i plugged it in and fell in love. I have a POG pedal which I love. I run one of my distortion/od/fuzz pedals into it and love the sounds. I thought the slash fuzz would be similar, but it has a totally unique sound. By playing with the fuzz,tone,octave up and octave down knobs, you can really get some cool, fun tones. I write original music, so was instantly inspired to write some cool riffs. Leads sound great too. It's got some interesting characteristics. For example, when you turn down the volume on your guitar, it doesn't seem to trigger the octaves as much. But, when you turn it up and bang on it, it gets fat. I love that about it. It's like it has personality and is moody. The pog + od has a metallic, chimy sound at lower volumes. This one doesn't. You can strum a chord lightly and it will sound somewhat clean. Then you hit it hard and it summons octave goodness. I also experimented with turning the "Sub octave into fuzz" off and hitting one of my dist/od/fuzz pedals. Even more tone options. The "Up" button is cool cause you turn on/off the upper octave. This is killer for some sonic variation within a song or to switch to a solo. I'll definitely be adding this sound to my stuff.

This pedal manages to deliver in every application. Vintage mode is my favorite, and the tracking is excellent (but also delightfully glitchy as was the OC-2). Poly mode with the adjustable lower octave is very useful as well. Unlike other octave pedals this thing sounds incredibly fat, with a nice mid-heavy octave sound that really cuts through a mix. Still doing some tweaking since I've only had it a week. The tracking it pretty amazing and the option to dial in how many strings you want to have affected in the Poly mode is a great addition to it's multiple options. So far I've gotten some some very desireable sounds and expect to get many more out of this built like a tank great Boss pedal. If you want a great octave pedal, this is it IMO. I`m using this effect on bass just to have another trick in the bag, to me it sounds better on the D & G strings. It doesn`t come with a power supply and it is very picky about it. I`m using it with rechargeable 9 V batteries in order to avoid another cable on the floor and it will last me for about 10 hours. With batteries pay attention to the LED, the moment you see it dim replace the battery or it will stop sounding in no time.If that happen performing, you can remove the output cable and plug it into the "direct out" jack until you can replace the battery. And yes, it will drain out the battery if you have the cable connected to the pedal even if the pedal is "off" that`s why I replace the battery before a performance or practice with the band.Or you can use a power supply and avoid all this.Made in Malaysia. Does exactly what it claims to. The upper fifth and octave sounds a bit synth-like when played clean, but when fed through an overdrive definately delivers the desired effect of a crazy, beefy sound. However, if playing clean and accompanying a distorted guitar, the octave up helps to solidify harmony lines without the synth sound being too noticeable at all. I am an analog octave up (AOU) fiend. So when the this pedal came out, I had to try it. I tested it against a Green Ringer clone. Unfortunately, the Tentacle has an inherently harsh quality. You really have to adjust your rig's EQ to remove its ice pick sound. Other AOU pedals have a softer quality to them. While this pedal, with a fuzz, is bearable, I judge an AOU as a stand alone effect. Decent Green Ringer clones give more warmth, musicality, and overall practical use at about half the price.Sidewalk Sally

It could be a little noisy and unpredictable at times, but overall really cool sounds could come out of this pedal, if you're looking to add some dirty octave sounds to your riffs or leads, you'd really like this one, could dial retro arcade like sounds, could make your guitar sound broken, or just turn it into a noisy octave mayhem. This pedal arrived with me last Friday, I was really keen to use it having seen the demos online, the following 2 days turned our to be the most frustrating of my life. I suspect the demo people are given a fully programmed device to portray a seeming ease of use. In reality after 2 days of struggling with sluggish and in some cases non responsive buttons and really poor tutorial, even with the help of online programmes, I was not able to store a single usable setting. Now it may be that I was supplied with a faulty unit or the pedal requires far more time and patience than I can throw at it. In a performance environment, utmost simplicity is key and I feel this unit is not that simple, or as I said earlier. could be defective. In either case it isn't for me and the end result is a return for refund or exchange for a different brand. If some-one could mail me in this regard as soon as possible I would be very grateful. kind regards Chris

The looper, even with updated firmware, is way to short to use practically…I use my 75.00 dollar pedal with 3 hrs of loop time. The volume on mine does wonky things, starts out pretty good…then jumps loud…tried it in recording situation….good god no….sounds like a diesel truck… worth about 1/4 the cost….scott monthony

It has been really fun to try the different presets. The harmonies are very nice and clean. To my ear they sound great. I haven't played a gig with it yet….so we will see. There are some basic things that I wish i had known about the interface. Some fundamental orientation videos would be good. I had the most basic problem with not understanding that the buttons were so sensitive. It is almost comical! I would PRESS the button and nothing would happen! But i finally discovered just to TAP the button and everything worked fine. Seriously. Holding the button firmly down did nothing. Just tapping it though… .and it worked as it should. 🙂 Really weird to me! But overall, I think the guitar effects and voice are very good. i'll enjoy this thing I am sure.mhs9417

this pedal may be a bit too refined for fuzz nuts. it's a distortion. it beats out the fuzz face reissue for sure and beats out anything boss is putting out. does not stand up in sound to my dwarfcraft devices, copilotfx, and noisemaker effects fuzzes. oddly enough, this pedal reminds me of my boss hyper fuzz, a sound somewhere between the mode 1 and mode 2 on certain settings. it's more distortion than fuzz with a smooth breakup, no gate or splattery bit sounds here. i bought this when it first came out 'cause i needed a cheap octave up for covering blitz's "someone's gonna die" on guitar. but now that I play bass only, this pedal will still give me cheap nice grit with single coils and a pick with the eq set at 12 o'clock, octave turned off and distortion set at 0. keep the knob protector on it and it will last. i broke a knob off on my dano reverse delay accidently, wish that it had a foot guard on it!
This is a fantastic little fuzz box. I cannot comment on how it plays and sounds at gig-level volumes, as I have only ran it through my 5 watt tube amp at moderate volume levels. I didn't know what to expect from this baby when I plugged it in, but wow. Completely transforms your tone into a low end growly fuzz, or a shrieking startling high pitched swell of distortion and static, or anything in between. From watching videos online I wasn't entirely sold on the effectiveness of the octave effect, but it works wonderfully and can easily get those cool sounding jack white tones when you are playing notes higher than the twelfth fret. Strumming more than three notes at once doesn't play well with the octave activated, and turns into a mesh of static. But that is how most octave effects pedals sound, especially when paired with any kind of fuzzy gain. If you are searching for that "perfect", smooth, boring, tone look elsewhere. This pedal is disgusting and noisy and beautiful. This is my favorite pedal hands down.Jac
This pedal is simply amazing. Although you can drive the distortion and EQ to create an almost electricity-surging sound, I choose to keep them both low to get a deep, warm, HUGE fuzz sound. Flip on the octave switch for that Hendrix tone with the same settings and your guitar will literally scream through your amp, simply amazing. If you look at my Cons bar, you'll notice I said "Almost too much insanity." To clarify – The pedal has such an outrageous range of distortion and tone that when you flip on the octave switch, chords become undistinguishable static. However, that is not ENTIRELY bad. Personally, I could see myself using that noise for experimental parts in the studio, but not live shows. The octave switch is a very powerful poison, one that must be used strictly for one note at a time solos or riffs. Unless you're playing octaves, two harmonies will completely clash because the extra octave the pedal adds almost sounds like a ring modulator at that point. Regardless of this fact, the octave switch has proven to be one of the best features on this pedal and I adore it all the same. It says distortion, but trust me, it's a fuzz, and a great one at that. Put the EQ at about 9 o' clock, as well as the distortion level, put the level knob up to about 2 or 3 o'clock, turn your volume knob down on your guitar to about 7 and be amazed at the warm crossroads-esque fuzz. Literally, this is my favorite pedal I have ever owned. I've been eyeballing it for quite a few months, but I finally paid the money and bought it and it has literally exceeded all the expectations I had prior to listening to it in person. I heard a few recordings and demos of it, but none of them did this pedal justice. Simply put – it's a gem. Definitely keeping this one for as long as it survives the road, and I may even consider putting it in a metal case, but the seafoam green is almost too gorgeous to not use.
