Best Electric Guitar Headphones (2024 Update)

The sound quality isn`t the best, but really good considering no amp is required. It`s great being able to play tracks through the headphones. It has been very useful, as I often work away from home and can practice silently in the hotel room, without having to take my practice amp.Dave T.

Had my reservations about buying this, a cheap headphone amp, as I have had others in the past and the o/d or distortion always sound awful. Don't get me wrong it isn't replacing my Marshall amp, but for a really portable and handy headphone amp it is great. I can use this, and move, whilst the kids are in bed, no more having to be 2 mtrs from my big amp….. As a practice and experimenting tool I love this!gastall1978

It's better than expected, though the design might not compatible with some guitar models. It requires an AAA battery. Works pretty well with any headphone. It also has an AUX port so that you can plug and play any songs you like and jam along. Thumbs up from me!wamin0

I just bought a couple of these on sale price to add to my early-stage home studio. Overall, I'm pleased with these. I think they're great to throw on each of my band members to lay down tracks. Plenty of low end to keep the drummer and bassist happy, high freqs don't offend, and mids sound good. In fact, I'm not really sure what my issue is with these. However, when I'm mixing and think I have a good sound, I'll compare with a pair of Skull Candy Aviators and Apple Ear pods and find different issues with each. Not huge issues, but usually something to do with the mid to mid-high range. It SEEMS like these color their mid freqs. a tad. I know all headphones are different and it is good practice to often switch between different sets for reference, and it could totally be inexperience on my part as a mixer, but these are the issues I've come across after 20+ hours of use. It is not something that would discourage me from recommending these to fellow home studio dudes and dudettes. Probably not for audiophiles, but if you are one, you're probably not even shopping in this price range to begin with. Meh … but, shoot, what should one expect for such a low price? While these cans are fairly lightweight, they are fairly well built, overall. Comfortable, with little or no "microphonic" distractions (meaning one does not hear noise from the cable or headband or earphone receiver cups – as occurs so often on inexpensive headphones.) Cable is lightweight and does not feel as durable as the rest of the unit. Headband copies many other headphones, such as the venerable SONY 7506 and some Audio-Technica studio monitors – and is just OK (no complaint, but nothing special,either). Sound signature is dark, muffled, and lacking detail. Mid range and treble frequencies are subdued and dull. Bass is muddy and lacks punch, and disappointing overall. But, this is what one USUALLY expects and gets at this price point. In contrast, the similarly priced Takstar HD-2000 has a far cleaner, more open, and detailed audio profile, and Superlux HD-661 andHD-672 for an additional ten to fifteen buckaroos are WAY more open, clear, clean, punchy, and neutral – i.e., accurate – and represent a huge bargain among affordable headphones. Similarly the JVC HRA-R700 are a much more substantial product with far superior sound, close to the Superlux, (which I think are the current performance value leaders in this market segment. Therefore, while the Musician's Gear headphones are … um … just OK … they ARE, ultimately, worth what you pay for them. I guess. I will probably give these away to someone without any headphones. I rate them 3 stars because they are just average, ordinary cans for the price – as I think there are better alternatives for the same or just a little more of your hard earned brass. And this is just MY take – your mileage may vary.TT

GREAT HEADPHONES for GREAT PRICE! ~ Took a little bit of time to arrive, but well worth the wait. – IMPORTANT NOTE: I destroyed my headphones by trying to splice the wire in-order to shorten them, the cord is quite long…, but, when I cut the cord, it was Impossible to re-connect they barely have any insulation between the wires, I ended up buying another pair. For decades I have used MDR 7506, 7509, 7510, and 7520 headphones from Sony. Sony discontinued all but the 7506, and it's too bad because the 7520s were spectacularly accurate, detailed, and reliable in all ways. (I have been a location sound guy for film, a producer, director, and editor for same, and now I record audiobooks. I have spent much time with headphones.) 7506 are a bit of a professional default in broadcasting and film; good price point, dependably rugged to a point, and a sound that you know. (A little like Yamaha NS-10 near field speakers…in other words, nothing stellar, but you know what you are getting.) Having recently been on a hunt for cans to replace my 7520s, (and currently using Beyerdynamic DT770 Pro), and I picked up a set of 7506s after years of not having them, and I have to say they are fine-ish but do not excel in any way. They are good for location sound, they are even good for general music listening and TV viewing, but they are in no way mastering headphones, nor are they good for hours-long voiceover work. I find them reasonably balanced, if a little bass-heavy (good for location work because you can year your problems better), but the upper mids, where your speech is, is super harsh. Like a knife in your ears harsh. There is a really peculiar resonance that just makes it impossible to not be distracted, and to really depend on what you are hearing. While they are, again, a defacto standard in the pro world, they leave a ton to be desired in terms of true accuracy and long term use. I recently tried a series of cans from AKG, Austrian Audio, Sonys I imported from Japan, and 7506s, and they all performed way below the DT770 Pro in accuracy, balance, comfort, and all around performance. Also, over the years, the 7506 ear pads have gotten lower in comfort, so I replaced them right away with other, deeper pads. This does affect the sound, if you choose to go this route. Doesn't make it better or worse, but does make it different and you have to recalibrate your ears and brain to get used to it. So if you buy these knowing what you are getting into, they are a good value, but that is about it.Stephen

Not for listening to music, but for accurately monitoring recordings. The frequency response is as flat as possible, ensuring you are hearing what you recorded with no added low end. However, I still listen to music with them and they suit the purpose perfectly. Overall a solid, classic design. Does exactly what it claims. The only flaw is one that can be avoided – don't rip them off your head and clap the cans together or the foam from the earpieces will wear out and become disconnected from the glue holding them to the cans, and you'll have to reglue them after trying to precisely fit it back. Just be responsible and they will take care of you for many years. I swear by them to the point that I've bought them 3 times, and keep the boxes in my mic cabinet.rgdood12345

I've been using the MDR-7506 Headphones for the last 25+ years, I really love the way they sound. I use them for studio and live applications and they always deliver a clear sound with great definition. I never get tired of their sound. During the last 4 months, I bought the 3 sets of headphones from another brand, the first time it was their 250 ohms version, then I tried the 80, and last the 32 ohms version. I returned all of them within a day of purchase, I guess I really wanted to have those headphones because they look cool and I think I gave them a fair chance (maybe because of their tight isolation of external noise/sound and great soft feel on my ears), but I ended up buying more MDR-7506 instead, maybe I'm an addict to their sound as I used to be to my old Yamaha NS-10 (I had 3 pairs of those). But, since this is a review for the Sony 7506, all I can say is that I will stick to them. I've produced at least 15 albums and 2000+ jingles using them, maybe that's the reason why I love them so much.Hedras Roderico

When I bought these headphones I had been looking around for a replacement for some cheap ones I had had beforehand that had broken. After shopping around I found these to be a really good balance between high quality and still not too expensive. I do think they are a little lacking in bass but overall they sound fantastic with a really good balance of sounds. Every sound is most clear. For those that are looking for casual headphones to use around everyday or on travel, these may not be suitable since they are studio headphones, are quite large and bulky. They cannot be worn around the neck comfortably either. But for those that are looking for well rounded headphones with strong sound for computer work, sound or music work or for use in an actual studio, they are perfect since they are comfortable and have little to no external noise. Great for tracking. Especially backup vocals. I bought them at a 50% off sale. But after hearing them, I could see myself paying full price if I were too wear these out. I got exposed to the AKG K271s when I was tracking my first album in 5 different studios. One of the studios, where I spent the bulk of my tracking time [200 hrs] had these. I was sold in the first session. These you could keep on for hours without major ear irritation and, for folks that wear glasses like me, they don't grind your glasses ear stems into your head or at least way less than other headphones. The K271s also have a great feature in that you can peel off one ear and the audio to that ear stops. That's great for tracking string players who typically want to track with only one ear in the phones; the same is true for choir members. These work wonderfully for those applications. I also keep a pair plugged into my Roland XV-88 keyboard when playing it. It almost goes without saying how great they sound. Frequency spectrum is hugely wide, bass is solid and fat, and highs are crisp and clean. I have 8 pairs of these in my little home studio for tracking small choir groups and I even keep a couple as safety spares but that is probably pointless since they aren't likely to go out anytime soon. If you are particular about the country of manufacture [some are some aren't], the K271s come in two issues: the original issue was simply called "K271 Studio" and they were Made in Austria, the subsequent issue are what we have now the "K271 MKII" which is actually Made in China. I, personally, have no issues with the people of China but I do have issues with their government. That being said, BOTH issues are outstanding in quality. Functionally, I also love that the pads are easily replaceable and they come in two textures: plastic/leatherette and felt. I have found the felt to be better for very long sessions as they don't retain as much heat. These phones are also light feeling and don't weigh down your head after long periods of usage. The headstrap is very comfortable and it allows for easy auto-adjustment when you put them on. You don't have to fidget with getting them just right on your ears and head. They do that for you. Brilliant, elegant, functional design. It doesn't get much better. I wish all pro audio equipment was as functional, affordable, and well-designed as these phones.whitehorse64

After a couple of visits to the Cheltenham store I decided to buy them and I am so glad I did. In store I used my phone to audition them but it wasn't until I bought them and plugged them into my Naim separates at home that I realised why they had such good reviews everywhere. Sound quality is fantastic, I would describe them as well balanced and natural. They don't emphasize bass or treble, they are very detailed and easy to listen to for hours on end without fatigue. Build quality is first class, they are so light and comfortable and do not cause any discomfort, even over long periods of listening. The isolation is first class enabling listening without bothering others in the room. Nice that Shure have included a spare set of pads and a spare cable. I've noticed an improvement in sound as they are now starting to get run in. I highly recommend them!Eagle 1

Hi All, I use these without an amp through my iphone se 2020 with apple dongle dac and with a schitt heresy to similar results. Obviously the heresy is better but not a paradigm shift. Been listening for about a month. Have tried over 40 hp's to get here. Finally found my all rounders! I stream through hifi streaming mostly and am particularly impressed by the versatility of these headphones. Electronic genres sound deep, full bodied, clean; vocals are detailed, present, centered (so important to me, i prefer a slightly vocal forward sound stage (i dont like the hifiman sundaras presentation of vocals for reference, 6xx sounds maybe a bit too forward but lovely for david crosby etc. singer acoustic music), and the 1540s sound very nice even compared to 6xx for this genre, but quite different actually. Vocals have more texture on 1540, more detail, but less area, i.e. a bit less spread out, less enveloping. I attribute this to the closed back design. Best closed back soundstage for the price imo. DCA aeon RT are another option, and akg k553 mkii for a cheaper option, but k553 mkii lack comfort and highs can be harsh, no good. However, on the 1540, even horns/strings sound so good! Not DT 880 level but surprisingly good, for closed back a real achievment tbh, this is the key part of why I'm keeping them forever. Rock guitars sound very nice, instrument separation is natural. There is a slight echo in the closed back design, but it's kind of nice too, gives snares a little more snap and whack. Compared to srh 840, the 1540s are flatter and much more comfortable. Bass sounds better, highs are maybe dull in comparison but pump it loud and you'll be excited, trust me. Normally, i like vocals center, at medium volume, bass is beautifully present too, at high volumes these become so much fun, yet smooth! and the high pressure of the accentuated bass and closed back design feels good with metal and dub. This headphone are a giant step up from my Sony MDR-7506's in terms of sound. I used the Sony's mainly for tracking/editing voice over and I will probably still use them for that. The Shure's are tonally quite different. The Sony's emphasize mids to an unnatural degree but make them great for finding and revealing mistakes in audio. I am not sure I would use the Shure's for reference as they do have a boost in the upper bass area away from the Harmon Target. Otherwise they are spot on and sound great with most music. There have been a few occasions where this bass boost can muddy up some songs but this is fairly rare with what I listen to. At first they clamped my head pretty tight but with some use they are becoming very comfortable. For a closed back design I think these are one of the best options for price/sound quality. These headphones. Where do I start? I am not new to the game of 'audiophile' headphones. My everyday pair are Sennheiser HD650s. And for traveling I use a wonderful pair of Sennheiser Momentums. Grados are not a 'neutral' sound signature that you will use to mix audio. But, if you want to ENJOY your music? I cannot think of a better option at this price point. Everything I've put through these has renewed my love for them. Classical, rock, metal, alternative. I cannot find something that these present poorly. Maybe edm? They don't have skull crushing bass. But The bass is full bodied and not lacking in any way. Just doesn't punch since they're open back. Simply put, everyone needs to try these Grados. The build quality makes you think they're from the 80s, which was my initial draw to them. I guess I'm a hipster but I think they look awesome. Paired to my Fiio BTR5? I just love music again. They've also replaced my HD650s as my gaming headphones. Halo Infinite through these makes you think you are the master chief. So do I recommend these? Well it should be obvious by now lol. I bought these heaphones recently as I wanted to do some music listening later on at night whilst not disturbing others and I didn't want to spend a fortune in case my late night listening didn't go to plan. Well, I have to say these are perfect. I use them with a Creek headphone amp and they sound absolutely amazing. I would describe the sound overrall as very natural, there is a nicely extended base, lots of detail in recordings I hadn't heard before, sweet treble and mids, everything just sounds so musical. I have heard a £ 3,500 pair of Focal Labs and whilst these don't reach the same heights, on a cost basis these are absolutely stunning phones for the money…and I got them on a nice Richer Sounds price match deal. They do leak a bit of sound but that is to be expected with open back headphone design but the comfort and sound quality more than make up for this in my view. if you want a superb quality headphone with natural unforced music without spending silly money , I highly recommend these Grados. And when shopping around, the Richer Sounds price deal was the best I could find…once again. !Alex89

I bought these on the stupid deal of the day. They were very inexpensive, and I got what I paid for it. I have a much higher end pair of AKG headphones, and there's no comparison. These sound thin, and have a mid-range honk in them. Four basic listening to music, they would be okay. They don't measure up to my Sony 7506's at all. For the average listener just wanting a pair of headphones to listen to music, they're okay. However, if I were to use them in a studio application, they would be useless. I've been recording for more years than I can remember, and while my 7506 headphones have been my go-to, my upper intake AG's have a different sound, but they're very neutral. They have a great balance. I kind of thought this would be similar, but I should have known for the price I paid, which was less than 1/10 of my good ones, that they wouldn't measure up. Astonishing sound for the price. If you want low cost, quality materials, light, comfortable and a transparent sound go no further. The cable is thicker, longer and more durable than most in this price range. The cunning headband results in a set of headphones that will not squeeze your head until your eyes pop out so very comfortable for long listening sessions. I am surprised at the transparency of the sound, using my classic NAD and Sony amplifiers the sound stage is good, bass is thick and detailed, the highs are crisp but not sibilant. Mids are perhaps slightly muted but a little EQ sorts that out. These are closed back and leakage is minimal, but they don't suffer the boxy sound that often comes with low cost closed back headphones. Overall the sound is vibrant, detailed and agile. There is no mushiness, boomy bass or shrill highs. If you drive these with a decent source they will deliver a good approximation of what you put in. Highly recommended, for the price these are excellent value.radiomarko

I bought these headphones about a year ago, so I can tell you a lot about it. First of all, I like this large size. There is no pressure on the ears. Secondly, it is a long and flexible wire, which is a big plus for me. And most importantly, the sound that is the BEST for the money. Perhaps the sound in these headphones is the most detailed and lightest of all that I have heard. As for the disadvantages, I want to say that it is impossible to replace the wire if you damaged it. When it comes time to buy new headphones, I will choose from AKG. Thanks a lot!Rodion

Finally I enjoyed music how I wanted. Using Flat EQ settings. If highly professional sound engineers mastered the sound of for example Pink Floyd album, Why you need to listen it with some bass boosted or treble boosted headphones? They are already fine tuned it for you. Just take the flat monitor headphones and enjoy. Do not forget to use FLAC files and proper sound source. Don't use it with phone with 128kb mp3 and say that it is not sound good. And please note that headphone has a long 3 metres cable so it would be great if used indoors only. Fully satisfied. But to the point: After quite a long time I have to say that I have gotten used to the proximity of the buttons and while I still think that Audio-Technica should consider re-enginerring them, I don't think now that they are as onerous as I felt during my first review. I have upped my rating to 5 stars: I am even more sold on the quality and sound of these headphones and one extra plus! As a person to whom specs are of little help, I needed headphones for listening to music and my playlists (which a mostly classical) on my pc. I already am happy with my Sennheiser phones for optimum listening, so I was looking for some less critical (and frankly) and cheaper phones. I was surprised by the powerful bass. Music and videos I listen to on YouTube sound great, and my own CDs sound good enough (I attribute that to the player). So this is a real bargain without too much of a compromise.Andrew

Never used noise canceling headphones before. Price was right to try on recent flight. Comfortable over my ears. Could not hear buzzing airplane noises usually hear when wearing earbuds. Also could not hear my husband unless he tapped me on my shoulder. Did occasionally hear a crying baby. Normally am a nervous flyer but was able to fall asleep wearing these while listening to a meditation podcast! Liked how they folded up flat into my purse leaving plenty of room for other items. Dont be fooled but these kids sized headphones,they pack enough punch to rival many $20-40 competitors. Great value for the price,on sale for $10. Can turn the volume up all the way on my s9plus phone, since my actual s22 ultra doesnt have 3.5 mm jack, without distortion. Built in amps are made so people dont blow them up.These headphones dont have extreme bass nor ear piercing tweeters. Nor does it sound like the more expensive,garbage turtle beach brand,that closely resemble a cup with a string attached to another cup. Exceptional balance focused around mid tones,not too high,not too low,while bass lower frequencies are clear and present. It has decent noise canceling cushions,being not able to hear someone in a quiet room 5 ft away with only %50 volume up with any genre of songs,is pretty good.Super lightweight,and they fold up,but need much care,that skimpy cable wont last long if it keeps being bent in ways its not supposed to. First things first, the description for these headphones lists them as being "over-the-ear" but they are not! These are on-ear, meaning that they will not envelop your ear the way a larger headphone would; they sit on top of the ear. They have an "L-Shaped" jack, and the cable is unique…it is very pliable but remains to be seen how well it will hold up over time. The pros: They are super lightweight, headband tension not too strong, and have decent sound quality for the casual listener. I also like the way they fold up. Cons: They feel cheaply-made, and padding is extremely minimal, so not very comfotable for extended periods of wear. Also, as mentioned, the product description is a bit misleading. Due to this, they also are not great at blocking out background noise. The smaller 30mm drivers also keep these from delivering a lot of bass, but hit mid-tones pretty well. Bottom Line: These are a pretty great sounding headphone for $20, and would work well for casual listeners. I am happy with the purchase so far. However, build quality is a bit of a concern, so I'd recommend those with active lifestyles to search out something a bit more durable/comfortable.Joshua

I've had my K361-BT headphones for about a month now. The sound quality is good, fit is fairly good. There were numerous items that I'm not pleased with. The mic is either not working or the default output volume is too low. Even when I have the mic volume turn to maximum level on my PC or phone, the mic only registers 2% sound level. There are no adjustment features for the mic on the headphones that I've found. The touch / slide controls don't work well. The require heavy pressure and multiple attempts to adjust. They headphone do feel quite warm when worn for extended periods of 3 hours or more. Overall I'm quite disappointed with the product.Mike303

I read a lot of positive reviews about these headphones. Turns out they were pretty accurate. As far as I can tell, they produce a pretty flat response for all frequencies. The detail is good. They're very comfortable They're excellent for my main reason in getting them (I.e., making new music — hearing my stuff as close to how I made it as possible with no embellishment for any frequency range), as well as also being mostly the way I like headphones to be for general casual listening of just about any music. Probably the best headphones I've owned in quite a while. Also, they were delivered earlier than expected, and the price wasn't jacked up like they do with a lot of stuff. ZReviews on YouTube tested the AKG K371 More$ …. and the K361. Zeos raved about the K361 over the more expensive big brother. I conquer. These are clear and right there. The sound isn't too far away like you're listening to sound coming out of a Cup … over there a bit. High efficiency is a great plus. They sound great with my Laptop AND the Cambridge DAC MAGIC Plus as a headphone amp. Only downside is the fit doesn't quite cover my big ears, some rearranging in long sessions was needed. They come with a long and shorter cable that snaps into place on the phones. Thanks to Parts-EXPRESS for getting them here so fast too! The AKG K361 are a YES. Great price for a great product. Pros: Comfortable, good for listening to things while jogging, cycling, walking and doing things around the house while keeping situational awareness. I feel safer using these than noise cancelling headphones. Well built quality product. Cons: The sound quality is nowhere near as good as it is with noise cancelling or over ear headphones but this is what I expected. If you want to really enjoy sound quality use different headphones. If you want to safely listen to things while keeping situational awareness user these.I would have preferred the multi-function button to be on the right side but I am getting used to it.Cathal

I had never heard of bone conducting headphones until recently and thought they may be some sort of scam. But they are real, they aren't expensive and they work well. I use them for my morning walks and I'm able to hear my surrounding sounds such as approaching cars and other walkers and push bike people which I couldn't do before with inner ear headphones. I find the sound quality for spoken media such as podcasts and audiobooks to be fine but I found music lacks base. But that is a fair trade off for the safety of hearing my surrounds and I'm not looking for high quality sound on my walk as long as there is a bit of music or a podcast to keep me occupied. I found them to be lightweight and fit over the top of my glasses easily and comfortably. They're also handy for if I'm driving in a car that does not have Bluetooth. I can listen to my stuff and yet here other vehicles around me. Pairing was simple and pain-free. They get a big thumbs up from me.mardy

TL,DR: Good pair of headphones for its purpose, good curbside pickup process I'm a first time user of bone conduction headphones. I had been looking for headphones that allow me to hear my surroundings just to be safe on runs/rides. Overall, I'm happy with the headphones. I was a bit unsure of the sound quality so didn't want to spring for the top-of-the-line Aeropex model so settled on these. Fit: I have a fairly large head and these headphones fit pretty well. No excessive pressure. The band is non-adjustable so it doesn't sit particularly flush but it's only a small gap. Doesn't bother me but I can see if someone has a smaller head, it may feel like it gets in the way. No issues with wearing them with glasses or a bike helmet. Headphones stay on during fairly strenuous activity (olympic lifting) as well. NOTE: I have managed to get them under some tuques during the winter provided they weren't particularly tight. Took a bit of repositioning. YMMV. Sound: Better than expected sound, good for podcasts/audiobooks. Music quality is good but don't expect audiophile quality. Volume feels sufficient for me but if you are in a loud area (eg beside heavy traffic), you will likely need to turn the volume way up. If you are constantly in loud areas and/or need perfectly clear high quality audio, I would look elsewhere. Battery/Charging: Charging via USB-C is fantastic. No proprietary cables needed. Battery life seems to be as advertised so far. Calls: Haven't used it for calls so can't comment. Purchasing/Pickup: Great curbside pickup process. No issues with service. I recieved my live500BT headphones a few weeks ago. I decided to trust JBL since I have the charge 4 speaker and I love it. My phone isn't in the best shape, but I can leave my phone on the wireless charger and stay connected to my headphones through the entire house! If you're like me and don't care for earbuds, then these are for you. Much lighter, but with a better sound quality than other over the ear headphones I've used. Great for the gym. I bought these headphones when my old ones broke. I was excited at first as the audio quality when listening to music is outstanding. Then Monday rolled around and I needed to use these headphones for their main purpose- online meetings. These bluetooth headphones come with a mic and a hands-free mode intended for using the mic and earphones at the same time. However, the audio quality is abysmal, quite literally impossible to understand anything that is said, as it really is little more than distorted static. After much research online, I have found that this is a known problem with this model of jbl headphones. I did not buy a dud pair, the model is a dud. From what I have seen online, JBL has known about this issue since 2016 and have decided to do absolutely nothing about it. Hopefully, I can get a refund for these useless headphones, otherwise I've wasted a lot of money on a brand that I used to regard as high quality. Very dissapointed.craine

was on a trip needed a pair of headphones cause I lost my AirPods and passed by Walmart and got these. These headphones are the way to go. Not overpriced and my favorite part is the battery life. Thing never died on me. I was on the trip for 3 days with the headphones barely charged them. Some days I didn’t charge it and it didn’t die until after a few days I got home . Charges super super fast, battery life super super long. Sound quality is great. Love the thing so much. Had a great time with it until I gave it to my sister after finding my AirPods and my brother bought it off her for 40$ smh could’ve made easy bank it’s whatever thoxenic

These headphones are very comfortable, they're lightweight and have a light clamp force but a nice texture on the earpads which helps them stay on very well. Overall I thought they would be more 'open' but that it only because I have come from a pair of Sony MDR MA-900 which literally have a slit in the rear of the earcup and you can't really beat that level of openness. So how's the sound quality? It's not bad by any margin but it has a slightly veiled sound in comparison to the Sony's just mentioned. I do enjoy the colour of them though and they're good enough for me to use for my gaming setup. I run these through a Yamaha AG03 and there is plenty of volume! In short I can't really say these are better in any way than my favourite pair of cans, the aforementined Sony MA-900, except for the velour covered memory foam earpads which are just superb. You know what though? These do feel less rickety but I put that down the to fact that they're fresh out of the box.tohex89

Great headphones if you want a flat response. Very good for piano because it accurately captures the whole dynamic range. Depending on the piano, you may want something that bumps the bass a bit (or use eq), but the treble is lovely. The open back means you can hear everything happening around you as well. Works surprisingly well with devices such as phone or iPod considering the impedance. For the odd occasion a dedicated headphone amplifier is not needed, but of course suggested if you want the best sound. The best sounding headphones I've ever owned. After recieving these headphones I initially thought they sounded flat and airy, however this was due to being used to lower grade drivers which are muddy at the lower end and tinny at the higher. Still however I prefer a boost to my lower frequencies which is easily done by most media players or amps. The headphones are rated at around 62 Ohms; thus they should be driveable by most devices, yet they sound much better when paired with an amp/dac combination. For any of you worried about not having a microphone, it pairs amazingly with the Antlion ModMic, there is no set position for said mic however I have placed one under and behind the removable input for the headphones, this allows the modmic to rotate up out of the way and down into a perfect position. Closing thoughts: Wish I knew about these earlier, amazing pair and one of the best purchases I have ever made.worn_aurie

Headphones that I use with my smart phone and iPod. I had an old pair of this model and needed to update when the wires on the old pair frayed, I like the head phones but some updates to the design I am not crazy about, For instance the ear pieces are smaller, the cord is my longer, and the plug piece is thicker, making it more difficult to use when I am charging the phone. overall I am happy with the headphones and will consider buy Shure products in the future #sweepstakesJim G

The SRH240As are great for studio use as well as practice and general listening. They give on the whole a very transparent and clear representation of the mix, with a very slight "warming" of the signal compared to a set of dedicated studio monitors. I think you'd be very, very hard pushed to find a better pair of headphones at this price-point.Michael S.

I'm a big fan of the AKG 700 series headphones. I also own the K701, K702 & Q701 all of which sound very similar. These K712's are an updated version with slightly fuller base but have the same sound signature. They are brutally honest and revealing. Well recorded albums from Miles Davies, Jack Johnston and Daft Punk for example sound amazing. However poor recordings sound bad as these headphones make no effort to hide such deficiencies. They also are quite insensitive despite having an impedance of only 62ohms and require a good headphone amp with low output impedance to sound their best. The soundstage is very wide which makes them great for gaming. The "attack" of these headphones are the sharpest I've ever heard which makes gunfire and explosions in games particularly impressive. I highly recommend them.magrrr

I have only had for a few weeks so little burn in time. They are playing classical music very well with excellent soundstage (an AKG quality) and neutral and uncoloured response without exaggerated base – ideal for this type of music. The pads are very comfortable though quite large and a little loose – out of interest I might look at aftermarket replacement pads though no real concerns about the pads as they are. the headband is a little stiff intially though now very comfortable (a vast improvement on the older AKGs!). The headphone is light and though predominantly plastic looks stylish and seems robust. I like the orange accents and the orange cable. The cable inserts into a very stable XLR 3 pin connector and is secure. I have several headphones (Focal, Beyerdynamic, Meze and Audioquest) and I rank the AKGs as good as any of these and less fatiguing and with a more neutral signature than some – probably closest in terms of sound is the Beyerdynamic DT880 or Amiron). They are open ear so no sound isolation of course though this is the price paid for such airy sound. I can't speak for other music types however they will not disappoint unless you need extended and upfront base. The service and price from Manny's was excellent too!Grant

I've had many sets of headphones. Read about these ages ago and finally picked up a pair on sale. I must admit that for the price there is nothing comes remotely close. I've had several twice this price that don't come close. These are professional's pair of cans – they are remarkably light and flexible, the ear cups are huge with great feeling felt covering and soft memory foam. I can wear these all day. I did add two Dakoni nuggets at either edge of the headband to distribute where it makes contact with my head a bit more, but mostly in order for these to fit my wife's much smaller head. For me it was not necessary but doesn't hurt. But more than all that is the signature of these which is an absolutely beautiful balance between flat and sculpted…. a very natural response curve that frankly works for every type of music I throw at it. It is exciting enough to be very nice for simple listening sessions, but more importantly it is accurate and unbiased enough that I can actually effectively mix and master with these. The bass extension is excellent and hugely detailed and refined – all textures of bass are revealed. The highs detail is excellent as well and never, ever quite *too* much which is even better. The soundstage is *naturally* wide, not intimate, not overdone or unnaturally expanded. Listening to this set is as close as I can come to a pair of near field monitors. That is as it should be. They perform amazingly well as lower volumes, another bonus, but do not fall apart at high volumes either. There are times these sound just a touch too technical and I will reach for something more dynamic, wider or just more "fun" (a word used too often but it's fitting for some cans)… But I reach for these more often than I expected to for a "work" set of phones. Look Hyperx has undoubtedly put the best headsets for gamers with all budgets and made each pair really phenomenal but this new selling of the company has me questioning what's happened. I've owned both the cloud core and cloud 2 wireless headsets only to return both. The legendary comfort and build quality are there for endless gaming sessions but they both lack a high enough volume to actually hear what's going on around you in chaotic game environments. Look the sound is clean, thumping bass, highs/mids truly compliment one another and is probably the best I've heard for all around entertainment. I just don't get where the decibels are to really be able to turn these up and really hear all they have to offer. Call of duty is clear but footsteps and tactic sounds aren't easily picked up because they're quite. Look, a little more volume and these would be headset of the year for $100 and I would get rid of my Steele series Arctis 7p. I returned these for the cloud flight and boom, way better product. They need that little umph to get betterWilliam

The headsets are decent. I have had other headsets from Hyperx before these honestly get the job done. Dont expect to get blown out of your mind. Also i have been getting a weird static sound from these once in a while. I assume its the pair that i have. I may exchange for another or return them completely to get the set up versions.OSA20

Comes fully charged out of the box. Is very comfortable for long periods, amazing sound, good Mic, the auto turn off feature when no sound is played for extended periods really help the battery last well over the 23 hours listed on their specs.
