Anyways to my surprise, it was smooth, I didn't hear any scratchy sound coming from the amp and it grounds well to eliminate the usual hum when soldered correctly, and the solder 60/40 stuck to the back of the pot well. While Bourns makes clearly the best mini-pot in the business with it's hydraulic-feel and beautiful taper functionality, these standard sized pots lack the same feel. They're great in practice and overall function, but the feel of the pot when turning them is one of an almost scratchy-scrape feel which unfortunately isn't at the same quality-level as their mini-pots. I've purchased these now on several separate occasions, and all have the same scrape-feel, so while the mini-pots are always my first choice, these would definitely be a second choice if no other option was available. Actually I was shocked. Normally I have to add a capacitor in the wiring harness line to achieve volume or treble bleed in my bass guitar upgrades but that is not necessary with these posts as it is already built in. I put two of these in a gibson SG classic, volume positions, that I also put seymoure duncan stacked p90 pickups in. I changed the tone pots with fender 500 ohm replacements. Wired to SD spec they work well and the short shaft is correct size. Being used to regular pots, these are a little strange since they turn down fast. 10 to 8 is a big difference and below 5 is really low volume. I am getting better sound than with the original 300 ohm pots that were stock.Brain

For the price, these are great pots. If you own an older Historic, you will notice a HUGE difference in how your guitar sounds and feels. For the price, for a set of four, you can't go wrong. Gibson really outdid themselves on this. For years, all the boutique parts companies have been touting their "improved" Audio Taper pots made by CTS, who are basically one of only a handful of companies left making pots like these. BUT, and this is a big but, no one ever got the taper or the feel of the pot correct. These new pots were always a hybrid taper that endeavored to combine a linear and audio taper. Well, I'm sure they succeded, but they didn't work like the old ones. The old ones had an 80:20 ratio in what's known as a "straight-line" audio taper. This means that you get 80% of the volume in the first 20% of the rotation. A staight line drop off right at 8 on the knob. This allowed you to clean up your tone with a tiny twist of your knob and still have plenty of volume for a great clean tone. None of this turning down to 2 before anything happened. Why didn't any of these boutique people do it the right way? Because CTS wanted a PILE of money to retool to do it. Yielding to overwhelming pressure, Gibson forked over the cash and had CTS duplicate that old Centralab taper. They also had them use the lowest friction setting on the shaft, so these turn really easily and will get even more loose over time–just like the old ones. Great job Gibson!

The price was good so I thought, what ta heck right! I was expecting scratchy sounding, buzzy pot that a solder can't stick to. Anyways to my surprise, it was smooth, I didn't hear any scratchy sound coming from the amp and it grounds well to eliminate the usual hum when soldered correctly, and the solder 60/40 stuck to the back of the pot well. CTS IS A JOKE, ITS OVERPRICED AND QUALITY ISN'T AS GOOD ANYMORE.yerkool

While Bourns makes clearly the best mini-pot in the business with it's hydraulic-feel and beautiful taper functionality, these standard sized pots lack the same feel. They're great in practice and overall function, but the feel of the pot when turning them is one of an almost scratchy-scrape feel which unfortunately isn't at the same quality-level as their mini-pots. I've purchased these now on several separate occasions, and all have the same scrape-feel, so while the mini-pots are always my first choice, these would definitely be a second choice if no other option was available.
