I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. As far as I'm concerned, Peavey doesn't have any customer support.crrkr

The things I like- Lots of presets, mobile app functions, computer interface, and loads of user created effects available. Nice and loud, but no real basis of comparison to say if clarity is better or worse than other comparable amps. Don't likes- The micro-usb interface. I had to get an adapter and it's just not as good a connection as nearly anything else would be. IMHO, micro-usb is far too flimsy. Connecting to PC is far more problematic than just using the spider mobile app. It's probably a little more complicated than it should be for a beginner, but it's feature rich for the money.Nic T
I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. There's enough that if you work at it you can get a decent sound but there could be some better ones. Overall I would recommend the amp. I just bought this amp with the Line 6 FBV short board; they work well together of course. The amp is a lot of fun with the looper and presets and the endless ways you can tweak your tone. I love the amp but there are a few things which could be better. You must use a 2 gig or smaller SD card or it reboots if you try to save to a bigger card. So just get a bunch of small Sd cards before they are unavailable–only a few places still have them–which is kind of a pain. It does record nice but I haven't figured out how to record the mic input and the guitar input at the same time, so I always have to do two tracks. There is a switch which switches the input for recording back and forth from mic input to guitar jack. With the short board you can turn the looper and presets on on the fly, but you must put the foot pedal in the recording mode, and when the FBV is in the record mode you have to switch it back to channel mode to switch different guitar tones. So to switch to a different guitar tone you have to do another track to reset it. Anyway, I just thought these few drawbacks could have been easily figured out and fixed. Hopefully the next generation can take the more available SD cards, record more than one track at a time, and make the FVB do all the functions in one mode. However, it's nice having all the gimmicks for having fun in one package. Even thought I give it four stars instead of five, it "is" worth the low price, and I would buy it again knowing what I know now.Songwritunfool
The Line 6 spider jam changed my life in many ways. First and foremost you can save every idea that you come up with! 2nd it helped me to become a songwriter, it has everything you need so you dont have to rely on other people showing up to practice. Its allowed me to put the time into writing that I never could before, because face it most people dont want to rehearse 7 days a week, or even 5 for that matter! If you are looking for a versatile and fun practice amp that you can record and gig with, this thing Rocks. I am primarily a bassist and just learning how to do leads on guitar and this amp fit the bill perfect. It does not have the warmth of a top of the line tube amp, but I did not need that as an intermidiate player. This thing has pretty awesome effects and tone varieties for about a couple hundred varieties and most I will never use. You can record, you can plug in a mic or a bass, you can jam tithe rhythm tracks, it has headphones so you play without waking the wife or neighbors, and a built-in tuner! That is just what I have discovered so far! The price makes this the perfect amp for practice, recording, and even small venue performances (half way up on the master and it is loud!) the only thing is it takes time to figure out and discover all the tones and capabilities, but that is also half the fun! Have had this amp for about 2 weeks now and so far no issues and everything is working great on it. I bought this amp just as a small bedroom practice amp so I didn't have to fire up my main half stack every time I just wanted to keep it mellow and not wake up the kid. The headphone out jack is great for late night jamming with your iPod plugged into the AUX in!!! I also wanted something light and compact to take to practice once a week again without loading up my half stack and pedal board every time. This amp seems to be built very solid and all the knobs and buttons are pretty basic and don't feel cheap. Some of the pre amp settings sound alright out of the box but if you are an experienced player you will definitely be changing these to your preferred custom settings anyway. But, great for beginners to have something to start with and build their sound from. I like how all effects are built in and with the MKII Express short board, (a must have to switch channels, tune and for wah) I bought it makes packing and taking this thing around with me very easy having no extra cables or batteries to worry about. This little 30W gets pretty loud I must say, not enough to do a medium or outdoor gig with, (unless miced through a PA) but definitely good enough for a small practice room or just jamming along to some tracks with your PA. Our drummer plays very loud and is a hard hitter and in our medium size space this amp can be heard but not way out in front. I play Hard Rock and Metal so when cranking this thing it does alright but obviously not anywhere as good as my 50W Blackstar tube amp. All in all for the money this amp is great with all the features it comes with and I will see how long it lasts before deciding if I would buy another one?Quanah
I ordered this thing to honestly, hold me over until I could get a better amp (decided to pick up the guitar again after a few years of letting work take over my life). I knew I wasn't going to be getting anything immaculate for this price, but I did expect better than this. If you like that shredder, overdone dirty sound, you'll get it with this amp. It seems to me like they spent way too much time putting as many effects as possible on this little guy instead taking that time to put something together that had A MORE QUALITY SOUND. Also, the volume levels never stay the same when turning it on and off (I'm really not imagining this). I'll have it at a comfortable level, turn it off, and the next time it's turned on it will sound maxed out (literally just have to inch one of the volume knobs down and back up a hair and it will go back to the level It was at, not a big deal, but it's annoying and I've never had any amp do that). I don't know where anyone gets off saying this is good for recording or performance…I would be embarassed to show it off anywhere. first off for all the nay sayers over this amp, if you think the sound is bad from this amp, then get a decent guitar cuz this amp sounds awsome. I run my 1989 kramer stagey deluxe 2 through this and man what tones you can get from this amp. my kramer has seymour duncan JB and jazz Pups and its a perfect combination for great tones from this amp. right out of the box i was getting awsome sounds with minimal tweeking, basically 5 minutes after plugging in I had an awsome clean tone and metal tone. after further playing with it I got even more great tones. this is a perfect amp for home practice or band practice. ITS LOUD trust me when i say you can drown out your drummer easily. setting the 4 diffrent channel effects is stupidly easy. ive never looked at the owners manual no need to. amp is very easy to adjust and when you want to save your custom tone its as simple as push and hold for a few seconds the channel button you wish to use. The built in mp3/ipod jack is a great bonus for jamming along with whatever music you want to play along with. I cant say anything about the built in tuner as ive never used it. the one and only con against this amp is that it does not come with the foot controller. thats a seperate purchase add-on. the amp is light weight and can take a beating. its well designed easy to use and most of all it does what its supposed to without making you go rob a bank to afford it. it sounds great and is loud. i typically when in the house practicing never turn the vol up past maybe 25-30% for band practice maybe its turned up 45% yes i have cranked the vol full on and man is it loud. It will wake up your neighborhood. there is a slight distortion at max volume but i dont ever need to go that high except for sh$ts n giggles. run this through a p.a system, mic it and its stage worthy and ready. in smaller clubs you dont even need to mic it. over all im happy as hell over this amp. perfect for about every style of music. i love it! enough said!Kramer_player

I customize them slightly with an 8" speaker that fits in them and do a few other little things. For very little money you can have a killer little tweed looking amp. Wish they hadn't put the Rogue plaque on the front of the grill, and had kept true to the Champ 600 look by putting it on the top of the amp over the speaker. The clean channel is good, wish it had some built in reverb. The distortion channel is good too. I ran my "Bluesdriver" pedal into it and it sounded even better. I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. I have owned several amps in the last 40yrs. Always looking for "that tone" and never quite found it. Peavey's a Marshall and a Carvin. The last being a 100W head. And with all of them and a line 6 floor pod, was never happy. I am so happy with this head on my 4×12 marshall cab that all I have used the floor pod for is the tuner. I'm sure at some point I will probably use the pod for some effects, but for what I mostly play its not really needed. Of course there are many things that can effect this so ill just give a short list of the main guitars I use and the pickups. Gibson Les Paul with Slash Seymour Duncan's, wired 50's and a Gibson 137 all stock. I no longer play out so the 100w Carvin was just not good in my basement. Couldn't push it to the point of natural breakup in a confined space. This amp goes from almost crystal clean to a beautiful natural saturation. And the dirty channel picks up where the clean leaves off and goes to the verge of metal. Throw a overdrive pedal in the mix and there isn't much you couldn't play on the fly.Brad B
I have had it for a week and love it. It goes from super clean to full on metal overdrive. Price was good—delivered quick. Seems well built enough. The only thing I would change is to give the clean / classic channel some crunch so i could go from a light crunch to a heavy lead sound when switching channels because the clean channel is clean even when fully cranked. The DSL100 has a crunch option on the clean channel so it would be nice to have it here as well. But you can use the ultra gain channel and use the guitar volume to clean it up etc. I assume the clean channel would take pedals well from other reviews I have seen. Overall it rocks and gets really loud. Gig-able I think. Highly recommended.Tuckerman
I bought 2 of these heads to drive Marshall MX12 cabinets. I was previously using 2 Marshall DSL40CR combo amps. I thought I could save space by having the small heads instead. I was wrong. FYI, the DSL40CR amps sound great (mine are upgraded with Creamback speakers). First off, the amps both had horrific white noise when you turned up the reverb. 2) one amp made some weird static noise when you moved your hand around the face plate, touching the face plate actually changed the tone. I have never in my almost 30 years of using guitar amps had this. 3) The amps sounded thin and tinny. To the point they were unusable. I returned them for a refund and when both amps arrived at Musicians Friend, they stated that they only received one amp (although both amps arrived the same day). A day later the 2ne amp was marked as received. I received one amps refund on Saturday, and now I guess I have to wait till Monday for the second refund. What a joke. BTY, I also ordered a brand new EHX pedal when I bought the amps and they sent me a used one instead! Musicians Friend is such a joke now a days it's sad.MLM

I got one open box so the price was very nice. Cheaper than any effects pedal I could buy. Works perfectly with the Line 6 viper. This one just has the four pedals so you can set up 4 channels for use with the tap of the foot. I don't think the instructions mention it but basically, just hit a pedal, dial in the sound you want on the amp, then hold the channel button for that pedal down on the amp for a few seconds and it programs it in. Move to the next pedal rinse repeat… The Wah is pretty good. More like a Morley than a Dunlop. Maybe too much high end on the wah but you quickly get a feel for it and just don't stomp down all the way like you might on other wahs.Sandfarmer
This is my first line 6 product and I have to say it’s very cool. I bought this to go with the line 6 spider 15 classic. I didn’t need a big amp and figured if I need to upgrade this pedal would work for other line 6 amps. There is a learning curve to this pedal and it will require additional internet research to use it to its full capabilities however out of the box it is worth the money. There are 4 pedals to control the affects of the amp (depending on which one you buy) as well as a way/volume pedal. If you are just starting out this is a great buy until you find a specific sound that you want (like a crybaby way). If you are playing on stage this is also a great buy because it only requires one cable (that reminds me of an Ethernet cable) that comes with it. The cable is very long and provides power as well so don’t freak out when you don’t see a power supply in the box it’s all good.Tim
Sound: Not applicable. Features: Although I own several Line 6 amps, I'm rating the product for its other application, which is to send MIDI to a computer over USB. There are very few alternatives in the way of bus-powered USB pedals that send MIDI to a virtual port. (I've been waiting for years for one, actually.) The good news is that this one works. It's also small and light (while still feeling solid and stable once it's placed) and very inexpensive. If you're running a PC in your live set up, this is just ideal. It can be easily programmed to send Program Change, CC, MIDI Machine Control, Mackie Control… pretty much anything on any channel, etc. The software to configure this is straightforward and works really well. Especially nice for guitarists who are accustomed to a switch at the toe-end of the expression pedal to toggle wah, etc. It's all there and works easily. The only downside is that the pedal isn't expandable at all. It would have been nice, since all the brains are in place, if Line 6 had added a couple of 1/4" jacks for additional switches and or an additional expression pedal, though of course this would have brought the price up a bit. And I'm not sure about reliabilty. As I said the pedal is light-weight, and it won't surprise me if I *eventually* stomp it to death, but at this price I'm sure I will have gotten my money's worth first. (I just hope this product is popular enough that I can find a replacement when the time comes!) Ease of Use: Plugged it in. Downloaded the software. The software was totally intuitive and everything worked perfectly. (This is *not* commonplace with MIDI controllers…) Quality: I really like the feel of the switches, the economy of scale, the choice of features, etc. It's a cool product IMO, and more or less unique. Other players might find the lightweight construction and materials to be a bit "flimsy". Value: $99 bucks for the MIDI controller *and* the MIDI interface, and if you use a Line 6 amp it doubles as your onstage tuner. Size makes it suitable for small gigs and small rigs. It's a good solution for very reasonable money. Manufacturer Support: Line 6 is a big company now, but they've been good to work with in my experience, and their website is pretty comprehensive, so high marks. I haven't had to contact them about this product, and that's a good thing. The Wow Factor: Well, it's sexy to me, but I'm a total geek. 🙂 It made my PC/Ableton/Guitar Rig set up nice and portable. I'm probably the only person on earth who equates that with "sex appeal" LOL. Overall: There is no other single product (that I'm aware of) that would replace this, and yes, it's a big help for me in realizing my musical goals. So, 10 overall.

I've paired this with a Spider V 60 Mk2. Really easy to set up, simply connect one RJ45 cable to the amp. Allows easy control of the "Presets" and "Effects" in the amp, and easier access to the Spider looper and tuner. Instruction manual is not very good, but the important thing to remember is that this is a foot pedal for controlling the features built into the amplifier, so you still need to set up your sounds via the amp or the app, and then you can access them via the foot pedal.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I recently bought and returned a Line 6 Pod HD500x pedalboard. The reason for returning was because you either had complete control over your patch assignments or your effects… You didn't have control over both at the same time. YET….. with this pedalboard controller for the spider v series you have control over both effects and patch/bank assignments all at the same time which is what I was really looking for. Also, instead of using my existing amp that I was going to use with the Pod, I now have a new Line 6 spider v mk2 240 watt amp which has numerous patches to use that are twweakable and you can assign them to a bank of your choice for easy access. I'm totally happy with both the pedalboard and my new spider v amp. Broke them both in at a gig last night. cut right through the mix and the amp also had an xlr out to go right into the PA system. great. I would def recommend this to any gigging musician.The Madman
This makes using my Spider V120 so much easier! I can clock through my presets, change effects, record and launch loops and alter the volume or do some wah-ing – all without a break from playing. Caution – if you try this out sitting down first time you might feel you can switch between volume and wah – it just needs a firm push, probably from a standing position. I've been playing night clubs, Casinos, Hot Rod Runs, Bike Runs, weddings, parties, and everything since 1979. I used to use 2 Fender Twin Reverbs with Celestian G-12-65's and a rack of effects processors (to run STEREO), with a octopus of wiring to set up at every gig, plus an octopus of switches and stomp boxes and wall warts on power sttrips on the floor. Set up time and tear down time took hours. Sometimes all that wiring maze would pick up the 60 cycle hum, and what a mess locating the buzz! After a gig I had to set all that stuff up again at my home studio to practice. Sometimes there was no time… In 1996 I bought a Line 6 Flextone 2-12 (stereo) and that changed everything. It ended all the major problems and electrical buzzes. I programmed the Flextone right next to my Fender Twins and matched the tones exactly on the Flextone. WOW! No more Octopus Monster and Heavy Gear! I have since had a Spider III HD 120 with 412 bottom, 2 Spider III 210 combo's a Spider Valve 100 head, and recently a Spider IV 120 210. I Use the Spider iii 120 210 and Spider IV 120 210 amps on stage exclusively, with an FBV floorboard. Very Simple for stage and Awesome Sound everywhere I play! But again, many times my gear is loaded in a trailer, or at the venue and I need something that sounds like my Spider IV,,, so I got a Spider IV 15 watt. I quickly dialed in my 6o's Fender Reverb Tone for Country and Surf Tone on Ch 1, my StevieRay Vaughan "Little Wing" tone on Ch 2, The Stevie Ray Vaughan Roto-Vibe Tone on Ch 3, and a Van Halen tone on the Insane CH 4. I'm good to go! The only thing missing, is that the larger Spider Amps have a separate Reverb knob and the Spider 15 shares either the Echo Delay or reverb on the same knob, so you can't have both to smooth out the delay. It's one or the other on the Delay or the Reverb, but that's not a big deal on a great practice amp, that i could use onstage if I had a mishap with my other amps. Sounds best when you aren't pushing the master all the way to the max. Crank it up, dial in your tones, then back it off about 7 on the Channel Volumes, match them, and run the master at about 6 or 7. I can switch the channels with my FBV Floorboard and use it for practicing in real small rooms with a band. If it's not loud enough…Mic it! The tones I use are there and I can pack this amp in 2 minutes and walk out with my guitar without breaking my back with the heavier stuff. Fits right on my front seat. Done Deal! If it's your first amp, it's probably the best starter amp for the money, and for me, I have my tones dialed in for practice anywhere with no hassles.Kenny
Ups dropped it off yesterday, and it is everything I hoped, but better. The metal and insane channels are perfect. The clean is gorgeous, for a sort of metal clean tone. If you want to play a lot of Zeppelin or Pink Floyd, you might be better off with a Vypyr. but if you want Mettallica and Crue, to A7X, back to AC/DC and Aerosmith, youll love it. The metal channel is heavy as hell, and can still get up and throw piercing highs and mids. Everything is tight and punchy as hell. The biggest thing that shocked me was the clarity at seemingly stupid volumes for such a small amp. MF was out of stock when I ordered it, and I still had it in 7 days with free shipping. Very satisfied with this guitar amp. It has a lot of great effects, like flanger, reverb, tremolo, and tape echoes (to name a few). It's very fun to mess around with settings to create great spacey sounds and heavy, sludgy tones. It's also very easy to use. The amplifier also has very useful features, like a built-in tuner and a "save" feature, where the amp can save and remember four different settings at the push (and hold) of a button. It has great tone, volume, and variety, and it picks up things like pinch harmonics extremely well on the Metal and Insane tones. It's also pretty light to carry. Because the Stage Right 5-watt tube amp (#611705) has control knobs only for Volume and Tone, I found that I get the best-to-my-ears guitar sound when I put an equalizer pedal between the guitar and amp and then adjust the equalizer to the tone that I'm looking for. On the guitar the Volume and Tone knobs are set fully open and on the 5-watt tube amp the Tone knob is fully closed and the Volume knob is set to the volume level acceptable to the environment (for home practice the Volume knob is set to level 3 at full 5-watts). The Stage Right 5-watt tube amp is my first tube amp after having used modeling amps for at least five years. I had heard that tube amps more often than not sound better than modeling amps. After now having experienced using a tube amp I agree that tube amps (at least the Stage Right 5-watt amp) sounds better than the modeling amps I've used (which to me sound great too). If you're looking for your first tube amp (like I was) or you are looking for a low-watt tube amp for home use then I highly recommend the Monoprice Stage Right 5-watt tube amp #611705. Review about Monoprice customer support: The 5-watt tube amp that I initially received had a cosmetic defect (a hole) on the textured surface on the front side of the amp. The Volume knob when set to fully opened level 10 produced normal speaking level sound instead of the noise-complaint loud volume that I expected. Monoprice customer service was great and easy to work with in submitting an amp replacement request. I described the problems, sent pictures of the cosmetic defect and a video demonstrating the Volume problem. After Monoprice customer service reviewed the pics and video they sent me a free shipping return label, a RMA label, and they ordered me a replacement amp which arrived within 7 days after I submitted the replacement request. The replacement amp that I received had no cosmetic defects and the Volume knob set to max level 10 is loud enough to generate noise-complaints from neighbors, though I normally use the amp at Volume level 3 for home use.New User
For the price (I got it when priced $119) it is fantastic. It's simple, straightforward and sounds good. Nice warm tones. If you're a fantastic guitar player, this amp will sound fantastic. If you're an okay guitarist, you might want to invest in some pedals (or just keep practicing). I only say that because it is very clean and bright and it really shows off what you're playing. (I've been known to hide my sloppiness with reverb, distortion, etc.) BUT It does take pedals well – thankfully! Adding a good reverb pedal, delay and an overdrive to go along with this little guy is a good idea. The Pros: Value to Price ratio. Looks well built. Warm tube sound. The handle (yes I am talking about the amp's handle) is nice! Better than I expected. In fact, everything looks pretty good (except the cheap control knobs). 5 watts is plenty loud for home/recording use. The Cons: Good sounding, but there are better sounding. Please don't buy this thinking that this is a $500 amp. It is not. But sub $200 it is a good one. The chickenhead knobs are cheap looking. I took them off and painted them. But that's a dollar or two easy fix (if it bothers you at all). Overall: I totally recommend for $150 or less. Probably for $200. If the prices climb too much beyond that, I think there are other options. If you want to jam at home and record with it, I think you'll be happy.Brad
The Monoprice 5 watt guitar amp arrived just a few days after ordering, and arrived in good shape, due in part to the excellent shipping carton. Upon taking it out and inspecting it, I could find no flaws in the cabinet, and due to the cream color of the covering, it seemed a little bigger than I was expecting. I plugged it in, let it warm up for almost an hour, and then plugged in an ES339, using no pedals. At first, I wasn't all that pleased with the sound I was getting, but it was my fault. I had it adjusted as I do with my Albion Hybrid, but that wasn't the way. I found the best sound came from turning the Monoprice all the way up, and then use the guitar controls for volume instead. That did it, and the little amp came a alive in a big way! Sounding very similar to a Fender champ, it could go from nice clear tones to crunchy heaven with the ES339's humbuckers. I plugged in a Strat with an HSH configuration, and the single coil really made it sound Fenderish. Sweet. The only thing I found one might improve on the amp, is the speaker. As such, I plugged into the built-in external speaker jack on the back, a little Randall 8" cabinet. That really did it for me. The sound was fantastic through the entire spectrum, and was loud enough to be heard down the block. I then bi-amped it with the Albion, and the sound had all the creamy goodness I've been seeking, and that is how I now have it setup for daily use. That said, there's nothing wrong with the stock speaker on the Monoprice, and I suspect it will satisfy most users. Am very happy with this purchase, and glad I bought it for such a great price. Almost every electric guitar player could find a use for this amp. Buy before the price goes up, or they quit making them!T

This amp is versatile and easy to use stand-alone. It has a great selection of amp models built-in, along with enough effect and delays so that you can find something that you like fairly quickly. I like the clean and boutique models with some reverb. Then I played around with the other models, adjusting settings and effects. You can adjust everything on the amp, not necessary to connect a computer. I did find it confusing initially due to all the different methods required, i.e. "press a button", "press and hold", "press for 2 seconds", etc. That's why I read the manual a few times! Line6 puts a nice 2-sided "cheat sheet" on top of the amp around the carrying handle which is a lot easier than flipping through small pieces of paper staring at small font printing. So don't remove the amp-topper sheet and toss it in the box with the rest of the packing material :-). The best feature of the Catalyst amp is the manual channel. This is WYSIWYG. Adjust the knobs and controls just like a "regular"amp. You can then save the settings once you get something you like. In the future I will connect the amp to the computer and see what else you can do. Right now I am quite happy with the Catalyst amp and I highly recommend it. Go get one!Gene
After suffering a disabling back injury I needed an amp that was easier and lighter to move and set up than the tube amp combos I was used to playing through. I never cared much for the solid state amps as they could never duplicate the warmth a tube amp provided and was considering retiring from live performance altogether. Then I heard about the Catalyst series of amps and decided to try them out and was amazed! My bandmates were as well, telling me how much more clean and clear my sound was. Programming channels was a snap ( just follow the "cheat sheet on top of the amp and read the manual) and the manual button provides the familiarity of a regular amp, and at a third of the weight of my Blackstar 40 watt tube combo I can continue to perform without dealing with debilitating back pain from moving a 70 pound amp. I was so impressed I went back to GC and got the 60 watt Catalyst as well for home and playing at open mic and jams. I have a few amps that I'm selling and a couple that need work – I picked up this Catalyst 60 on a whim so I'd have something reliable and portable while I'm moving amps around my local used market – but I'm super impressed with this amp and am probably going to upgrade to the 100w model! (In fact, I'll get two because I play in stereo!) I found it impossible to get a bad sound out of this, I plugged in direct with my Vox Virage DC and tried all the possible pickup combinations and did not want to stop playing. Great cleans, great crunch. The higher gain amp settings had me revisiting the metal riffs of my youth, haha. I haven't dived into the software editor because: I haven't needed to. I use this amp with an Orange 4-12 slant clone that I built. I don't remember which Celestions I put in but they are an older mismatched, on purpose, twin set….two of one type, two of another. I do this a lot for a fuller sound. With the OR-15 set at its full 15 watts, there is no 'room level'. It is very loud and full. I set it at 7 watts, there is no 'room level'….still very loud and full. On stage it easily can cover the drummer at his loudest. Sooooo….. I bought a power soak for it, kept it at 15 watts, and I can use it onstage OR at home. By recording the 4-12 with the mic at distance, about 5-6 feet, I get the same full sound I like. Onstage I also far mic it. I just don't like the 'hanging mic' sound I get with close mic P.A. or recording. Buy the optional switch pedal….if you don't, you'll just want it later. May as well get it now. Also the black cover is cool. I don't spend much time playing with tube exchanging anymore……it became way too time consuming for a little difference. I could have bought a bigger Orange amp but I like the low power amps because I have more control over the headroom and where I can 'edge' it….just before breakup and just after breakup. This amp does that very well, without the edge being over 130db…… I also have a Micro Terror, and my bass rig is an Orange 4-10 cab and the Orange OB500 for the amplifier NymsNyms
Had it for a few months, absolutely love it. It’s my first British voiced amp and it’s definitely different. (I think it’s like looking at distortion pedals versus fuzz pedals in a way.) With the gain up, single notes are super thick and it makes you want to play riffs all day. I’ve noticed that I move away from more complex chords and use simpler lines, just because it makes the quality of the notes so good, that’s all you need to play. Sounds good with pedals, but I don’t really use them with this amp, just don’t really need’m. Can do some clean stuff, but it’s not got a lot of head room. I mostly just roll back the volume on the guitar and it cleans up really well. Definitely an amazing plug and play amp, maybe wouldn’t be my first choice for a pedal platform.Isaac
This is a nice little amp that's easy on your back. You can get a merriade of tones and it is powerful enough to support a gig. Speaker/cabinet choice will determine its flexibility. You can go old school rock with a greenback loaded cab (open back for combo sound, closed for the classic stack) or something modern for todays in-your-face articulation. Effects loop adds extra dimension and possibilites plus it takes pedals well. I pair mine with an Orange PPC112. Played with the original CelestionV30 in it, Celestion G12M Greenback and currently a Peavey JSX 16 ohm which, to me, gives the mini stack girth. I play a Gibson Les Paul and utilize a Dunlop Wah, MXR Corbon Copy (in loop), MXR Script 90 and at times a Boss SD1 (to boost for leads v other guitarist with a dsl15 212 rig). My sound is an amalgam of Allman Bros/Thin Lizzy/Judas Priest and this head hits it in spades, plus you can get the tubes cooking at a gig without having the sound man complaining or front end unbalanced. This thing is in my opinion the loudest practice amp I've ever heard. I love this thing. I was going to get a 10" or 12" amp but I'm glad I got this 8" speaker amp because it is almost as loud as those bigger amps. I was really surprised at how good this amp sounds. Years ago I tried Line 6 and was not at all happy with the tone; but this is another story. It does take me awhile to dial in a specific classic rock tone, but when I do, it sounds better than any other amp that I've tried. I have tried the Marshall Code, Blackstar id Core, Vox Valvetronix, Boss Katana; as well as some all tube amps. The only other amp that is a close 2nd is the Fender Mustang GTX; also a great amp. The Spider V is fairly easy to operate. It offers lots of choices for amp models and cabinets. I like that it has variations of a mic'd cabinet. The parametric eq is a plus. I haven't played around too much with the effects yet, so I can't comment on that. The only negative thing I could say is that when you're editing a preset and want to hear how it sounds before you save it, you only have a short time before it goes back to the Home Screen. This really is a small price to pay for the quality of the amp and all the versatility it has. I like the App too. Musicians Friend got me a great on this as well; and their agent is following up making sure that I'm satisfied. The funny thing is that I came across this by accident. I placed an order for a Peavey amp that was on back order. I called Peavey multiple times, but they never returned my call. I also emailed them, but they didn't respond to that either. As far as I'm concerned, Peavey doesn't have any customer support.crrkr
Been playing about a year, so my review is from the perspective of a complete newbie. The things I like- Lots of presets, mobile app functions, computer interface, and loads of user created effects available. Nice and loud, but no real basis of comparison to say if clarity is better or worse than other comparable amps. Don't likes- The micro-usb interface. I had to get an adapter and it's just not as good a connection as nearly anything else would be. IMHO, micro-usb is far too flimsy. Connecting to PC is far more problematic than just using the spider mobile app. It's probably a little more complicated than it should be for a beginner, but it's feature rich for the money.Nic T
I had a Line 6 120w amp for years that I regrettably sold a while ago and was looking for another amp. I looked at all the amp reviews I could find and decided that the new Katana was the way to go. I got the Katana home and absolutely loved it but the second day I had it it started a really loud buzzing that I couldn't stop. It probably was an easy fix but the fact is the amp was way too powerful for my purposes and their software wasn't compatible with the new Catalina OS. I returned and started looking again. I saw the 60w Spider V and the price was excellent so I made an on the spot decision to buy another Line 6 and I'm really glad I did. The tones this amp can get are incredible. There are so many amp models and cabs that you can dial in pretty much any tone you want from a crispy snapback country clean to the most vicious heavy metal and everything in between. You can use the presets as they are or you can use them as a baseline and tweak to your own liking or you can start from scratch and build your own rig from the ground up. The controls are intuitive and easy to use but there are some features where you'd have to be a professional to really know how to use or even care to use. The software and the mobile app are so easy to use and give you all the options at your fingertips. The amp comes with a lot of presets that I find are completely useless but there are a lot that are excellent as I already talked about. There are only four empty slots for your own custom presets and I wish there were more but if you use the mobile app you can have your own tone library on there. I bought the FBV3 foot controller so that gives me a lot of flexibility to have various effects. One of the limitations is the lack of good effects though. There's enough that if you work at it you can get a decent sound but there could be some better ones. Overall I would recommend the amp. Don't listen to the naysayers or the amp snobs, it's a quality amp and extremely versatile.Just Plain Joe

After years of frustration from trying amps with combinations of mods/speakers and OD pedals I finally heard a guitarist using a Vox AC15 in a pub gig and THAT was the sound I'd been looking for and since purchasing it I've never looked back. I can get sparkly cleans to perfect crunch and then great distortion (if needed) from this amp. I play a lot of Beatles, Stone Roses, Blur and Oasis so its a very Brit influenced sound that I'm after and this amp along with my Gibson Les Paul with P90's does the job perfectly. One thing I've read is that this amp doesn't take pedals well but I disagree. At low bedroom levels any tube amp won't sound too great with pedals but if you can open this up at the volume it was designed to play at then it sounds great with anything you put through it. Other reviews have said about the lack of an effects loop on this amp being an issue but honestly, once you plug an AC15 in you just get lost in the playing without worrying about anything else because their super clear sound cuts straight through in a band mix and sounds superb on its own. Oh, WOW! High quality manufacture, terrific sound and volume, excellently and safely packaged and arrived as promised. Beautiful, archetypal Vox chime – crunches and drives spectacularly when cranked up. Lovely reverb and tremolo. Quite a substantial thing and heavy with it, but I'm over the moon with this amp and if you're thinking about getting the same because you like the Vox sound – don't hesitate, it's everything people say it is and more when you're actually standing beside it. It might say 15 watts on the back but boy is it loud when you crank it up. Separate channel and master volume control means you CAN get it to work at lower volume levels. Awesome 🙂Ade
I have wanted one of these amps for a long time. I owned the ac10 and that was a good amp for the money but couldn't compare to the warmth and power of a tube amp. I don't gig out anymore so my fender blues junior has been a great little companion for the living room and does a great job for an inexpensive little tube amp. I've had it for over twelve years and it's all stock and still sounds as good as the day I bought it. I finally decided to upgrade to the vox AC15 today. I have to say that I really missed that vintage British sound that vox seems to so easily capture. This amp sounds so good it's almost unbelievable and at a price that's more than reasonable in my opinion. You could easily spend twice as much for half the tonal quality and build quality that you get with this combo amp. These AC15s are legendary work horses and are known for years of reliable service even under the harshest conditions. I got mine brand new today and wasn't able to put it down for hours. It will never leave my house so I'm sure it will provide me with years of trouble free enjoyment. It will definitely be the last amp I will ever need or want to buyStrummer

Other reviews have said about the lack of an effects loop on this amp being an issue but honestly, once you plug an AC15 in you just get lost in the playing without worrying about anything else because their super clear sound cuts straight through in a band mix and sounds superb on its own. All in all I'm really impressed with the Vox AC15c1 and can happily say that I won't be looking for another amp anytime soon, except maybe to upgrade to the hand wired version…Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Oh, WOW! High quality manufacture, terrific sound and volume, excellently and safely packaged and arrived as promised. Beautiful, archetypal Vox chime – crunches and drives spectacularly when cranked up. Lovely reverb and tremolo. Quite a substantial thing and heavy with it, but I'm over the moon with this amp and if you're thinking about getting the same because you like the Vox sound – don't hesitate, it's everything people say it is and more when you're actually standing beside it. It might say 15 watts on the back but boy is it loud when you crank it up. Separate channel and master volume control means you CAN get it to work at lower volume levels. Awesome 🙂Ade
I have wanted one of these amps for a long time. I owned the ac10 and that was a good amp for the money but couldn't compare to the warmth and power of a tube amp. I don't gig out anymore so my fender blues junior has been a great little companion for the living room and does a great job for an inexpensive little tube amp. I've had it for over twelve years and it's all stock and still sounds as good as the day I bought it. I finally decided to upgrade to the vox AC15 today. I have to say that I really missed that vintage British sound that vox seems to so easily capture. This amp sounds so good it's almost unbelievable and at a price that's more than reasonable in my opinion. You could easily spend twice as much for half the tonal quality and build quality that you get with this combo amp. These AC15s are legendary work horses and are known for years of reliable service even under the harshest conditions. I got mine brand new today and wasn't able to put it down for hours. It will never leave my house so I'm sure it will provide me with years of trouble free enjoyment. It will definitely be the last amp I will ever need or want to buyStrummer
