D'addario EJ26 Phosphor Bronze guitar strings are very good. I have played this strings for years. D'addario is a very trusted brand among guitar players. They are always consistent great sound and playability. They are comfortable on the fingers and they last a good while. The longevity of strings all depends on how much and how often you play. I have used various D'Addario strings since the early 80s. I was 'aware' of them in the 70s but I typically used Fender strings on electrics and Martin on acoustics. I have always maintained that D'Addario strings are cheap, plentiful, and get the job done. The argument could be made that there are better strings out there ("boutique" strings) but D'Addarios are available in any music store and they are consistently good. I think I only had one or two sets where the unwound strings were nasty…. they looked 'kinked' and didn't sound right. One or two sets out of how many hundreds of sets?? As to these particular strings, I have a 1947 Gibson L-5 and it just feels more 'right' with caveman strings. I'm not one of those 30s rhythm players that go runka chunka all day long, I play it like any other guitar, and it begs for heavy strings. D'Addario has them available….not everyone does, ya know. I'm happy with the company's products, across the board.ksdaddy
I bought these for a Little Martin, which was recommended to me as the best way to introduce Nashville tuning to my repertoire, as the smaller scale takes better to high-string tunings. Nashville tuning is sort of a studio trick most often used as a doubling of a standard guitar in order to achieve a 12-string or natural chorusing effect with less playing effort, more mixing possibilities, and no worries about having to down-tune to D to avoid neck or bridge issues due to the tension of most 12-strings (other than Guild models). There aren't many choices for pre-configured Nashville sets (many people put theirs together from individual strings), but this set seems the best balanced of what's available, and is especially designed to work well on short-scale guitars like the Little Martin series. I just wish they also made this in an 80/20 formulation, as I am starting to prefer how that metal combination blends with other instruments in the mix vs. the more modern phosphor bronze formulation. But one could always use 80/20 on the main guitar and get an even richer sound when blended with this phosphor bronze set.

This is the 3rd action gauge I've purchased, after returning the first two because they were inaccurate. This gauge is accurate and feels solid. My only gripe is what appears to be a typo on the back of the gauge, 'guitar' is spelt 'giutar' three times. The measurements are also etched into the steel, unlike the other gauges where they were printed on. 10 seems steep for a bit it steel with some measurements etched into it, but after trying to cheap out and getting a faulty gauge twice I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this.axdx9x

I have been using Stingjoy string on my 3 Ibanez electric guitars and a 5 string Fender Jazz bass bass for a couple years now. I really cannot comment on the bass strings- I just do not change them often enough. The electric guitars on the other hand I change quite frequently. I have found that the Strinjoy strings make more and a broader sound 'acoustically'- that is with the guitar unplugged, and as I use low to medium output PUPS that 'acoustic' sound translates when plugged in. Over the years I have managed to get a handle on Floyd Rose double locking systems which can offer really solid tuning stability once you do learn how to manage them. With the Stringjoy strings the tuning stability on my FR guitars went from very good to ridiculously solid. Once the a new set of strings are settled in, If I stick to whole tone bends or < and nothing environmental intervenes, I can play 6 plus hours a day and be not need to tune, or if I do it is just to sharpen the high E and perhaps B string occasionally. The tuning stability coupled with the great sound and extended time the strings sound good has made Stringjoy strings my electric guitar strings of choice.Shaun F
This FiveStar review is really more of a projected rating. At the time I ordered the super balanced set, I also ordered a set of Broadways. They are beautiful strings – amazing tone and vibracy. Plus they’ve lasted 3 months- a LONG for all the bending I do. This may be partly because I also decided to use the StringJoy string conditioner, a product Ive always stayed away from. Stringjoys formula is awesome and most importantly safe for the guitar wood and finish (I ran a test on a couple beaters). I received 2 sets of the extra light bronze acoustic bronze strings. I put one set on my 1940’s era Epiphone arch top F hole acoustic (no electrics installed at the moment) and man what a difference. It brightened it up, greatly improving the sound and ease of play. The other set I installed on my late model Gretsch jumbo acoustic, and it sounds good, just not quite as bright as my Epiphone. I’ll prolly try one of their other strings next time on the Gretsch. For what it’s worth, I’m a finger picker. I do recommend these strings!Kelly H

This is really interesting. I have always kept plenty of strings around and been waiting for the previous strings to be used before I use the StringJoy strings. Today I decided to restring my 50 year old Ventura Bruno, a D28 copy. I was just tuning the last string when this email popped up. My first thought was, wow if this company knows so much about it's customers that they know when they are putting strings on, they are going to be really great at crafting the strings I need to be playing. The second I touched these string I knew they were special, the quality materials and quality workmanship just jumped right out at me. The way they unwound right out of the packed screamed of quality in both workmanship and material. I do not think I have gotten any better at tuning new strings but these strings were the easiest I have ever tuned. Each string was off only about four steps. The sound is impressive and really don't know what to think. There is so much sound this six string guitar sounds like a 12 string. Used Martin marquis strings for decades. They quit making them and I decided it was time to try something else. Saw that Stringjoy's are made in Nashville and figured "Music City", must be good. I was surprised by the lackluster brightness of the 80/20 strings. Nowhere near what I’m accustomed to with other brands. I realize in production at times an inferior batch can pass through. I may give them another shot someday. I already put the second set on my Gibson maple advanced jumbo and it was the same as the first set. I have no idea what happened unless the strings were improperly packaged as 80/20 when in fact they might have been recorded lain phosphor bronze? There was no bell like brightness to them which is surprising for a quality maple guitar.David K
The strings sound amazing! But I have serious trouble getting and keeping them in tune. In all fairness I only played my guitar maybe 3 times in the first week after putting them on and I keep it on a stand in my home. But the strings I had used in the same way had stayed tuned for weeks. Even in the same playing I found myself constantly retuning between songs and key changes, capo use and the like. OK, since you asked, I'll be candid. I had high hopes for handmade-in-America strings, but honestly I didn't like their sound at all. It's hard to describe, but I thought they sounded lifeless. Maybe too tinny, with weak bass. Didn't seem to have much depth. I played them at a rehearsal right after putting them on, and I didn't like the sound. In fact, a woman commented out of the blue that my guitar didn't sound very good. I play a 1971 Martin D-28. By the time we played the next night, I had taken them off and put on a new set of my usual Martin strings, and she commented, again unprompted, that my guitar sounded a lot better, which was just what I was thinking. I try out lots of guitar strings – phosphor, 80/20, monel, hexagon, octagon, coated, uncoated, famous brands, not famous, and I usually go back to Martin 80/20 uncoated between trying new ones. I like a bright sound, but I also want depth and rich bass. I'm sorry to be so negative about these, but I didn't like the sound. recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio

I have been a Stringjoy customer now for 4-5 years(I think?) and they are the best strings I’ve ever used on my electric guitars! Love the feel of them and the tone. You guys have an amazing thing going. I would love to try them on my resonator guitar(it’s a square-neck). Beard Guitars makes the strings I currently use on it. They’re a little peculiar as far as the gauge goes though. .18-.20-.29W-.36-.45-.56 but I love the tone of that gauge and like Ariel Posen, I like a fight from my strings. I almost ordered a custom set to try when I was ordering my previous sets of electric strings but didn’t see a .29W in bronze. Anyways, I’m very thankful I discovered you guys! I turned to Stringjoy because I wanted a 9-72 8-string set, for which there aren't many options ot there, unless you go for a custom set. I was tempted by the stellar reviews, so I decided to give these a go. Firstly, these are the clearest sounding strings I've ever tried. They're not excessively bright, but their articulation is amazing, which really helps that low F# string ring true. They are almost clear to a fault, because they emphasise every little bit of fret buzz and string rattle, so you have to watch your technique. Secondly, these are the longest lasting uncoated strings I've ever used. After a month of use, they have shown minimal aging. I don't play my 8-string every day, but still, this is impressive. Also, they don't rust, flake or turn black. They just gradually become duller, while still remaining playable. One bit of criticism I have is the tuning stability. These strings seem to need a certain amount of tension to stay in tune. They were fine on my 27" scale 8-string, but when I tried the equivalent set on my 25.5" scale 7-string, bending made them go out of tune very easily. I need to try the 10-60 set and see if it's any better. Overall, I'm very happy with this set for my 8-string, and I have already purchased more. Oh, and one more thing! Normally, whenever I use gauge 72 or higher, I have to partially unwrap the winding to fit the string into its tuning peg. With this set, the lowest string was somehow able to go in as it is. I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH). I played D'addario strings for the first 10 years I played guitar, then about 4 years ago I decided to take a shot at making a custom gauge set specifically for my guitar. Ernie ball strings are easier to find individually so I changed brands. I can't even begin to describe how much of a difference it makes having consistently ascending string tensions across the fretboard on my 7-string (~21 lbs at low end to ~13 lbs at high end) especially for fast players. Sweeps and arpeggios immediately feel more natural. My 7-string is currently tuned to drop G (d,A,F,C,g,D,G). With a 25.5" scale the best gauges are .010,.014,.019,.028,.039,.056, and .074 if you want a good middle ground between tight strings and bendability. Give it a shot, you won't be disappointed.Cameron
I have a Jackson that has single-coil pickups in the middle/neck position. The guitar is in standard D and I use the 10-52 Ernie Ball set. The 17 gauge G string always sounded a bit weird on the neck pickup. After hours of googling and youtubing I found out that this is rather common on unwound strings (esp. the G). Switching to the wound 18-gauge string was all I needed to cure this problem. It makes it quite a bit harder to bend the string though.Mike

At first I didn't like the jingly sound as it was my first time using extra light strings. Best strings i have come across in this price, great natural sound and lasted me a long time(about 5 months). Really can feel the difference after switching back to light gauge. I don't recommend these strings for gigs with an amplified acoustic guitar. Should be fine for practice at home. First let me say I am a LOYAL Ernie Ball user – I have used them on my electric guitars for over 35 years. I have tried others and always go back to my Ernie Balls. One of my bands has me playing more acoustic guitar now than before, and I wanted to try some extra light gauge strings so that (a) I could play leads better and (b) my fingers wouldn't be so torn up after a five hour bar gig. So I tried the Ernie Ball Earthwood extra light acoustic strings on my Fender acoustic, equipped with a nice Fishman internal pickup. They are wonderful to play, easy on the hands and very bendable. Unfortunately they sound terrible. My band mates yelled at me the first gig, what happened to your guitar? The strings sounded tinny and distorted terribly. No tone, no volume, no projection. I don't think it is entirely because of the lightness of the gauge. I replaced them with Fender light gauge acoustic strings (11 – 52), barely bigger than the EBs (10 – 50), and the tone is back to what it should be. I still love Ernie Ball – but these Extra Light Acoustic strings just didn't work for me. Nice to play but they don't sound good. Priced right.tbalek

And here's why. We all know Ernie Ball strings sound great. For me, they've always had the most clarity. Take what I say with a grain of salt, I'm just going by my own experience. D'addarios break on me, DR's sound muddy and have also broken on me, GHS sound good but once again, they've broken on me. You may be thinking "Breaking a string is common for any brand, it happens" That may be true, but I have noticed that ever since I've switched to Ernie Ball, I've never broken a string. Unless I'm doing a setup, cleanup job or something like that, I rarely ever change strings, and I play for at least 2 hours a day. I've had a guitar with the same set of Ernie Ball strings on it for well over a year and still no breaking occurred. Simply put, these rock!
