Bass Guitar Combo Amps For Sale (2024 Update)

Advertised as 1000 watts, actual output is 200. I knew that before I bought it. The 12 inch speaker model is smaller and output is 250 watts. I didn't know that. The 12 inch weighs about the same but would be easier to transport. Bugera says the 1000 watt claim is peak output and standard in advertising. I think it's misleading. The amp itself sounds great and has many useful features.Daddy G

Let me start off by saying that this is not a review of how the Behringer Bugera BXD15 or BXD12 operates or performs. This is about engineering boasting and incredible claims. 1000 watts output given the input consumption is impossible. There are no amplifiers that are more than 90% efficient no matter what the class. Without getting into specifics and difficult math, remember this easy rule: No instrument manufacturer is going to push more output power to a speaker than it can handle. So if you want to know the true wattage of an amplifier, look at the maximum speaker wattage. It will be less than that. So in the case of the BXD15, it is less than 250 watts output and the BXD12 is less than 200 watts output. Look up the speaker spec.s on the Bugera site. Regardless of the claims and funny math. Do not base your decision to buy these amplifiers on Bugera's wild claim of output power. Also, If the manufacturer hides the max speaker wattage, like Vox does on cheaper amps, I would be highly speculative. But in this case, no matter how much fairy dust they sprinkle on it, the math is not possible.Jobrazen

Ill start out by introducing myself. My name is Mike. I've been playing bass for the last 10 years along with guitar. I've switched to mostly just bass for the last 3 years of that time. I play upright bass in a rockabilly/folkabilly band. I've had to rely mostly on my preamp and the house sound for most of that time. I've played on Orange, Ampeg, Fender, Behringer… Pretty much any amp I could get my hands on. I upgraded to this hoping to get the bottom end that the upright demands. Im using a Vic Victor bridge/neck piezo pickup on my upright. This amp is AMAZING!! I have not bottomed out this amp. It is able to be driven very hard and keep up with any slapping and popping that I do along with the steady grooves. The Onboard compressor smooths out my playing much more than I ever knew I needed! Typically with acoustic instruments, especially big basses, you fight to keep feedback and harmonics in control. I can safely say that it is not nearly an issue with this amp. occasionally you can still run into a feedback situation but, you really have to be pushing it to have it happen. The 15" turbosound speaker is also very musical and accurately defines the big bottom end and the slaps that my bass produces. The amp has plenty of power to be heard over guitars and drums. It is also surprisingly light weight for how much is crammed into it. My old amp with a 12" speaker was close to 38 lbs and was no where near as loud as this one. This amp weighs around 46lbs. Im able to lug it just as easily and have no need for an extension cabinet which of course saves me a ton of room. The EQ is very easy to dial. The additional push buttons for ultra low and ultra high are a very nice touch. The adjustable mid frequency is another huge bonus and helps control over resonant frequency's with my bass. It is super easy to dial in a tone for any style of playing. Im able to get my upright set up in no time for the country gigs. Also I can set it up in no time for my electric bass guitars if im feeling a little more metal! The amp also has a separate foot switch (fsb102b) that you can purchase. I purchased mine with the amp and it is very sturdy and fully built of metal. I do not see myself breaking this anytime soon from stomping it. The controls you get are a "Mute" and a "FX Loop". The Mute is very handy for tuning and the switchable FX loop is something Ive never had but I will start using now. It will make my life so much easier. I run a digital delay/tape/looper pedal along with a chorus pedal for some atmospheric parts of songs. Lastly price… Right now as of this review you can purchase this amp for 265.99. There is nothing close to that price of the same quality as this amp. Ive looked! Another thing to note is that these are refurbs "as of this posting". I personally have no issue purchasing something that has been refurbished, especially if it was done by the manufacturer. I can only speak on my luck but my amp came to me looking brand new! not a single scratch or dent. Ill leave you with my thought process. I researched several amps before my purchase. I could not find to many reviews for this amp. But the videos on youtube and a handful of comments made me believe it would do what I needed it to do. It does SO MUCH more and has proven itself to be such a great value. If you need a big sounding, room filling,feature packed, LOUD amp that can keep up with you!, Give this a shot. Was expecting an average tone and volume from an amp of this size/power. However, I was plesently surprised it packed a much bigger punch than I thought. Build quality and aesthetics are also really nice.Steve B.

I'm enjoying the Vox VX50 as a practise Amp, it's small, light and quiet but has a nice tone. I can play it anytime without upsetting the neighbours. The only improvement I could suggest is maybe to simplify the controls, bass, mid, treble and volume is enough, spend the extra on speaker quality and power. Overall good though.Jason S.

The Ac-10not only looks the business but it has since real depth and warmth to its tone. Clean – it’s bright and has the chime you’d expect. Turn up the gain and your tone breaks up but still retains clarity. Having the gain wide open and master volume down means you can still have the saturated crunch but not disturb others . Perfect for home use but would not be out of place in a small pub gig. Takes pedals will and with a multi-fix like a GT 100, if you disable the amp sim and use like a conventional pedal board, you don’t lose any quality of the AC10’s natural tone. A masterful amp and it even smells nice with those tubes cooking.Mark R.

Ive been playing 35 years and this is probably the best all around practice amp ive ever heard. Pros- looks great, sounds very good, cleans thump and chime, distortion can wail. Its loud for its size. Seems built well. Have had no bad issues. Cons- clean isnt near as loud as w the gain cranked up. No reverb. In short if this amp was 50-100W and had reverb and an external speaker jack id never play another amp. Good job VOX.jjsrvfan

I use one of these for my nylon string Godin Multiac. I blend the nylon with a GR33 synth and run both signals into this amp on the clean channel. The issue I've always had with amplified nylon string guitars is the 'plucky' or 'plasticy' sound of them through guitar amps. This bass amp solved the problem for me. With the amp's treble and bass rolled off completely I can get a very round clear tone by using the guitar's eq to provide the brightness. Very light and powerful, and an unexpected solution to a long-standing problem I've experienced. The electric violinist in the band tried his setup through my amp with almost identical settings and he bought one also! Works very well for bass also, in a small setting.Jan-Mikael

TLDR: BUY IT! I ordered this amp when I bought my very first bass. For years I was stuck with a school Ampeg Little Stud bass from 1973. The bass itself was 40 pounds, and for all of its vintage appeal, I was not impressed by its condition or playability. The amp was even worse. It was a Backline 112 that weighed 50 pounds, and when I performed with it in a school gymnasium with a capacity of a mere 400 people, nobody heard me playing. When I bought my bass I knew that I needed a new amp. Enter the Rumble 100. If this is your first amp, you might think this is a little pricey, but trust me, it is beyond worth it. I'm only 5'1", and while I could carry the heavy Ampeg bass and amp, it was starting to hurt my back. But this amp is incredibly light. I almost expected it to have zero bottom end. But when I played it, I was shocked. The sound was very well-supported, even if it's played with the bass, low, and mid down and treble all the way up (which I wouldn't recommend… I mean, it's a bass amp…) I've loved this amp ever since. But I'm not a "pro" yet, so let me tell you what some professional musicians thought when they saw my amp. I performed with a popular local brass band that has been together since 1980. Altogether they have 50+ years of touring and gigging experience. They're used to lugging some pretty heavy equipment. When I walked in to the auditorium, I had my bass case slung over my shoulder, my amp in my hands, and all my music nestled under my arm. Of course the stage crew at the door all thought that the tiny chick (me) was about to drop everything, so they rushed over to help me by picking up my amp. They went, "What? We're wondering where the inside went, Is this it?" They thought it would sound awful. But that night, in front of 2,000 people (and there was a bass solo), everybody said they could hear me perfectly. The design is simple, the onboard controls are very effective and not too complex, and it plays loud and proud without hurting you.Bass Clef Kid

Like the rest of the bass players out there I've used all of the major brands. From old-school Acoustic Control heads and cabs from the '70's, to Ampegs etc etc etc…Well I've reached the point where that level of stage volume isn't needed for what I'm doing now; I shopped around, and despite some of the amazing combos available, I landed on this one. Actually the guitar player in our band mentioned that he had bought the 50watt version of this. I played through it and was impressed. For me it's the ideal unit for what I'm doing now – I still play some heavy rock (Mountain, Cream, Cactus, Trower), but when volume is required we of course use the FOH and good monitors for stage support. Having the onboard direct out is the best as it allows me to go direct into whatever board is being used, whether live or recording. Don't be fooled by the small size; the size is a real asset in terms of portability. The head is where it all starts, and the tonal range is wide so you can dial in your sound. In a live situation there's plenty of lows, highs and depth of tone. Playing in various size venues is no problem – this will carry without going through FOH in churches, smaller bars & clubs (50-100 capacity). Larger venues or live situations where stage volume is needed for impact or performance, then my personal recommendation is to use this as a personal monitoring device and go through the PA & stage monitor as a direct through the board. One last thing; the amp sounds as good on 3 as it does on 7. Any more than than 7 and it starts pushing the speaker, and not in a good way. But I've had this for several months now, use it gigging and recording regularly and overall am simply satisfied with the purchase. Like everything, this amp has limitations. You're not going to get the punch or volume of a high powered rig, and you really shouldn't be using a combo for something like that. But whether you're a beginner, novice, or weekend warrior or pro this amp, as well as the rest of this product line, is a tremendous option.jb

I bought a Fender Champion XL 50 for a small light weight amp to bring to local jam sessions. I have to say I am not disappointed. I know there's no comparing solid state to tubesl when it comes to filling up a room with sound but this little amp cranks. It's closest competition is the Boss Katana and those are really nice. I like the ones I've played, but I'm really into that clean Fender sound and this amp has it in spades. You get the full range of cleans, from black or silver faces to tweeds. There's overdrive and high gain models in there too but as I said it's the cleans that sold me. It is a two channel amp, but I'm not sure why anyone would use the first channel as tall the digital goodies are on the second. That being said, the digital reverb in this amp has a bit of a whistle I don't like. Instead I used the chorus on the amp and a Boss Fender Reverb pedal. If your playing on a stage lugging around a forty pound tube amp may be the thing to do, but for sitting around a garage with friends this amp will save your back and please your ears.ADarkBard

I usually don't leave comments, but feel I must let the frustrated AMP user know, yes Jessica there IS a Santa Claus! Was looking for an AMP that was "SIMPLE" – On channel 1 ONLY the volume is usable, I didn't check but probably the Bass & treble too! On Channel 1 the gain control is set and turning the knob does nothing, and none of the FX are accessible! I was so busy checking out Channel 2 that I didn't check to see if Treble & Bass could be adjusted. You have 12 "Voice Settings" and 13 FX Selections. So I checked out all 12 Voice Settings combined with all 13FX settings – add this to checking these out with a single coil Strat and a Jazz/Full Shred Charvel DK24. I feel this is one of the BEST choices I have made in electric guitar choices! The AMP sound CLEAN!!!! I Imagine Channel 1 would be great with an Accoustic as well! Don't have one though! Channel 2 is GREAT and I don't need any more than it has to offer. It is so uncomplicated & stress free! If you are an expert guitar player and can concentrate more on AMP settings, rather than playing, then go for the Katana 50 MKII, or the VOX Cambridge. I was thinking hard on all three. When I got to GC I had pretty much decided on the Fender Champion 50XL. The VOX Cambridge is $150 to $160 more, with only $10 between the Fender & Katana. Since what is on the AMP is all my mind can handle, I decided to go with the Fender 50XL. It has to be on of the simplest AMPS to operate. I do have an Ibanez Tube Screamer, and if I have a need I can look at other pedals down the road. I do plan on getting a Cry Baby! Latter down the road I might get more pedals, but for right now this AMP has all I need. The Celestion Speaker sound GREAT! I couldn't be happier – it is as loud as I need – It's EASY to learn – NONE of the settings sounded muddy, muffled, or shrill. If I was going to get an AMP that needs a lot of downloading, I would have gone with the VOX Cambride. Glad I traded in my old AMP!Karl, M

Great overall amp. The obvious comparison is the Boss Katana 50. I tried both and I found I could dial in a sound I like from the Champion easier than the Katana. The Katana has way more features and the connect-ability. I prefer just plug in and playing which was far easier with the Champion. One of the largest selling points for me was the headphone jack feature for silent playing. The Champion has it right in front of the control panel and it's a 3.5mm jack. The Katana has one but its on the back and it's a 1/4inch jack which would require an adapter to 3.5mm. The location and the fact that it's 1/4in jack gave the Champion the edge. I also preferred that taller design of the Champion. It made it more comfortable to reach and adjust. Some of the cons are the knobs. especially for the "voice" and the "fx-select". A rotary knob would make it far easier to select the presets. Fender does provide a 3 color LED light that changes when you reach the next model or effect. However, a rotary knob that stops at the preset would be a better. Another con is that the reverb effect is combined with chorus and delay. I would much prefer it to be on it's own rather than combined. This is something that the Katana has. Overall the Champion is great for home use and I would recommend it to someone that wants a good amp that is easy to just plug and play. If you want more effects and enjoy experimenting then the Boss Katana would be a better choice.E. Bran

I recently purchased an Orange rocker 15 from AMS after returning another brand. The one I returned was a highly rated hand wired tube amp. All reviews said said it was unbelievable and the holy grail of small tube amps. Well I am no expert but to me it wasn't worth the $ 1000.0 price tag. I saw a you-tube video on The Orange rocker 15 and thought Id give it a try. Everybody says get a good clean amp and use a pedal for distortion. No pedal can sound as good as this amp when it breaks up. And man it can break up. From classic rock thud to heavy saturation it does it all. You know that feel you get from that thick distortion. This amp can get LOUD at full power but can still sound great on the headroom/bedroom settings. Sorry no Fender can sound like this. The rocker 15 has a really good full sounding clean channel that isn't over the top sparkly, but I don't use that sound anyway. Give it a try, It grows on you really quick. First I'll start with the Pro's of this amp 1. Fantastic Clean Tone. It is very dynamic and sensitive to pick attack. It really lets the sound of your guitar shine through, and with the tone knob and pickup selector I have not found any more EQ on the clean channel necessary. Turn it up and pick hard, you get a very nice break up, lay low and it shimmers. 2. Built solid. Birch plywood, heavy duty tolex, heavy duty chassis, good components, ceramic tube sockets, JJ tubes. A lot of places other amps cheap out, the Orange does not. 3. Adjustable power levels. Very bedroom and apartment friendly on .5 and 1 watt settings. 4. Volume and Portability. Enough volume to gig (I always mic my amps, but if needed it could still stay pretty clean over a drummer),easy to transport, and great weight and size. 5. Classic Rock and Modern Sounds. While I would not consider this a metal amp, it will still do a pretty good high gain modern sound and also classic rock crunch. 6. Tube effects loop. It sounds amazing with some chorus and delay in the loop. Now for the Cons 1. Mine arrived with tube rattle. I thought about sending it back but had an extra set of JJ EL84's and fixed the issue. I think it had more to do with the fact the UPS man threw the amp on my porch like a sack of potatoes. There was even a hole in the box from it hitting my rocking chair. It gave me chance to inspect the amps components and guts though. I also got a good deal on it, so it didn't bother me that much. 2. Low power modes (.5 and 1 watt) sound fizzy. It's nice being able to crank it up and play quietly, but the break up can sound fizzy. This goes away on the 7.5 and 15 watt modes. Honestly I think a headphone jack would have been a better idea. 3. Price. I think this amp may get looked over because you can get other 15 watt tube amps for less that even have reverb and some other desirable features 4. No footswitch. I will probably re review after 6 months of gigging abuse. But happy with my purchase.schwebel

This amp is built for the performing rock musician. It's all about gain and rock tones. Oh want some clean, just back off your guitar's volume knob in channel one and hit the reverb button on the foot switch and you got clean ! The build is one of the best I have seen in my 50 years of playing and building amps and electronics. Anything Ed builds is the best. The new stacked pots to control the first two channel's gain and volume is a real help. The 2×12 combo also provides free weight training as you move from job to job and an added health benefit often overlooked. Ya it's heavy cause it's built so well. If you dare go to channel 3 then better fasten your seat belt but C3 can be easily tamed by turning down the gain. In my music room I set the power level to 1 watt and can still drive and countersink a 16 common nail. Great amp and I love the ivory color.Doc Montana

best pure rock metal amp ive heard/played. just incredible gain that really holds together well. this amp just roars. tons of headroom. you will never be drown out by a heavy handed drummer with this. tried a marshall jvm and this thing blows that out of the water. power attenuator works great. clean sound not as good as say a fender twin but it is pretty good. i play mostly classic rock and blues and got this to indulge my occasional 80s metal itch but it is more versatile than i thought. only reason i gave 4 stars is ch1 and ch 2 shared eq. fyi this is BIG. heavy as heck but wheels make it a bit easier. other than that its greatthe cheese

Overall: This is an old-school tube amp that has the best gain I've ever heard. It is incredibly loud, with all the balls a stack would have, and because of the Celestians, it sounds classic and gorgeous. But wait! It has a power leveler dial so you can sound like a stack at ONE WATT! Pretty cool.You should probably (definitely) grab a noise gate as well. Seriously, you turn this thing on and it sounds like my folk's old Zenith floor model TV lol…but the sound of that gain is worth the hassle of a little noise.I'm currently playing in a country/rock/southern rock band and cut my teeth on classic rock and 80's metal…this amp will handle all with ease.The best amp I've ever owned.RIP EddieDavid

I am one of those guitarists who does not use distortion; mainly playing 50's, 60's, and country. Having done my research the '59 Bassman seemed to be the ideal amp for me with it's clean and full-sounding tones when used with my Fender and Gretsch guitars. Previously, I had used modern-spec amps and simply ignored the high-gain options, but they usually sound too mellow and a bit muddy when used clean, presumably so that when switched to distortion mode, they aren't too "fizzy" sounding. This amp is hands down the best amp I have ever used; no frills, just Normal and Bright channels with common bass, mid, treble and presence controls. Good for humbucker-equipped guitars, too: simply add pedals if you must, but your starting point will always be good tone, which puts this amp ahead of most others. Higher volume settings are likely to induce a little overload (think early Kinks hits), but it all sounds natural and not contrived or OTT.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

This is well known as a preferred amp for Lap Steel and Pedal Steel players, and that's why I bought it primarily. Also for Baritone Guitar (B to B tuning). SO no surprise that it excels on those duties. The big surprise was that this is now my preferred amp for P-Bass with Flatwound strings, vs. my modern Mesa bass amp. Perfect tonal balance, versatile across all playing styles, warm, and plenty of headroom (I only turn it up to 3 at small club gigs). It also excels on Hollow Body Guitars and Telecasters, giving a very even sound across the registers, with warmth, depth, openness, and room for expression. The only thing I don't like it on is Strats.mhschmieder

After 30+ year of playing… I have seen them come and go…from big AMPEG power to my current GK MB212. I have long come to appreciate the 12" speaker My current gear is made up of GK 1000RB and Agulair 12". The MB212 has tremendous sound and quality with a very solid construction but light weight (41lb's) the quality and finish are what I expected from a US made amp. The GK MB 212 has the POWER and sound to support any musical venue I currently play. The MB212 has the clarity and growl for Latin Jazz, Salsa and Rock & Roll. It handles my 1979 Fender Jazz bass with ease as well as my 2000 Carvin LB2000 5 string bass. Overall I have used it in 2 gigs with very positive results and comments from fellow musicians.Musicojazz

Playing in bands for 25+ years. Currently in a trio playing covers and doubling on upright and electric. I was gigging with two PJB Briefcases daisy-chained together; but changing EQs and cords a couple of times each set was getting to be a drag. This amp solved all my problems; I'm carrying one less amp, there is EQ with plenty of travel, gain, and a mute switch on each channel, and I don't have to swap cords. Actually, this may be the only 2-channel bass amp on the market that is a true dual-channel amp. It sounds great on both electric (80's P-bass) and upright (60s Kay w/ Underwood pickup). The input impedance does not seem to be as high as the Briefcase; I had to go back to using a preamp on the upright. I made a "Y" 1/4" speaker cable and actually tried it with the two Briefcases set up as a 4×5 bottom cabinet. This was fantastic! I'm getting the extension cab as soon as I pay off the Suitcase. 🙂Reiney

I received my Phil Jones BG-400 about 1 week ago and have played (2) basses through it. This little amp handles my Schechter Stiletto Studio 5 with absolutely zero effort, big fat B's, high-fi mids & sparkling highs with no clipping or distortion. The active electronics in this bass are so consistent and balanced and the BG-400 really showed up and cranked out those groves. My Michael Kelley fretless dragonfly w/ D'Addario chrome flatwounds sounds as smooth and buttery as you would expect however Low B string really seems to drop off. I have not noticed this drop off when playing through my usual SansAmp to board or conventional stack. I'm really wondering if an extension cabinet would fix this. I chose the BG-400 as a practice amp that I could drag out to jam sessions and small gigs without having to rent a moving truck to move my mismatched Hartke/Crate/Altek "stack". As is the BG-400 has exceeded my expectations! Already saving my $ to buy the extension cab and sell my stack.Chris C.

Compact 300 Watts Bass Amplifier. Two Channels active and passive. Four 5 inch Pirranha speakers great low and high sounds. Works great for my Warwick Infinity 5 string and passive Jazz Bass and P Bass. Only small drawback is that it is super heavy but that is how you get the great tone.pausull_k9nzjsue

This is a total disappointment. Poor quality! Got my first one. Played 2 times before cracking and buzzing by itself. Guitar center returned no questions asked after a test. Got the second one. It was even worse. Gave it back and bought a Fender. Very unfortunate. Love the size and setup. Just poorly made.Jesse Baker

I wasn't expecting much when I purchased this Micro Bass Amp for my practice area. Once I opened the box and set it up my view quickly changed. I love the sound, I might be able to use this for playing some smaller venues. I have only had it for over week but I fell in LOVE with it. My favorite part is plugging in my laptop with the Aux line in, putting on headphones and jamming along to songs I find online. I can tune out the world and focus on playing and practicing waiting for the day I can play out again once the corona virus covid 19 slows down. Take care of each otherMickey

I’m a new player,starting late 58 and this is what I call my first real big time amp… I’ve been using a small Blackstar fly 3 bass amp and a 15 watt fender rumble,both which are great but only so loud..I wanted something louder but not break the bank. I been checking reviews on amps and everything was coming back to either a Ampeg or a Fender… I chose the Ampeg and I couldn’t be more happier. I like the idea of the Ampeg being in two pieces which cuts down on the weight for carrying around.. The sound is fantastic, with the lows rattling the floors and the high’s nice and crisp,the added separate volume control for the MP3 player is a great Feature Also. The classic Ampeg sound can not be beat. I’ve have not had it over 3 on volume but at 3 it’s loud. If you’re looking for a good sounding amp and don’t want to play around with a bunch of knobs to get a great sound and don’t want to break the bank or your back check out this amazing little amp..Propanemike

This thing is fantastic. I was in the market for a practice amp, since I didn't want to lug around my bigger rig to and from practice. This beauty, pushing 100 watts, surpassed the sound quality I was hoping for significantly. The only major downside I can find if that it doesn't have it's own Direct Input, which makes it a little difficult to simulate my main tone. It doesn't respond as warmly to my Low-B as much as I'd like. But realistically for the price paid, I can't complain. The tone is as fantastic as anything you'd hear from ampeg. You get an overkill of volume for full band practice and plenty for smaller gigs. A nice plus is the head makes for a great backup in the event that your main rig fails. Overall: When I got this amp I was surprised at how loud it is. I thought 100w wasn’t going to be enough until I read it is 100w RMS… thus meaning it’s actually a 200w peak amp. I run the amp flat, and get the tones I want from my Fender Jazz Active Deluxe with the 3 band eq built in. It’s excellent for getting 70s clean Ampeg bass tone I was looking for through without it costing me my back or too much money. If you’re looking for a versatile amp with modern tech and old school tones, this is it. I run the amp and a DI for church without the cab, but at home I barely have it under “2” for volume. The aux plug is great but a little muddy for songs that have a wide range. It’s very well built and it has some weight to it. Definitely good for gospel, funk, r&b and rock.
