I bought a Bugera V 5 5 watt tube amp. From most everything I read on the Internet the original speaker just sounded "too dark" And looking around for any 8 inch speaker with 4 ohms was not too easy.Not too many choices to choose from. The Jensen MOD 20 was available (locally) and the price was real good.I bought the MOD 8-20 for a replacement, I made a GOOD CHOICE it seems to be louder and brighter than the Bugera speaker. Before I had to run my tone knob maxed out on 10…still was too muddy. But the Jensen I can run my tone knob at 4 or 5 if I wanted to. How awesome is that . I replaced both tubes in the amp and did not really notice a difference , but now the speaker…that was different. Thank you Jensen for making such a good speaker replacement.Electric John

Fender Mustang I Speaker Upgrade: The little Fender Mustang I is a great little amp for practice and low volume rehearsals, however, the stock speaker cuts nearly an octave off your lows and highs are tinny, and mids are farty. Again, great little amp for what it is and how low-cost it is. By swapping the stock speaker for the Mod 8-20 it is not only affordable, easy to do, it makes a BIG difference in overall tone and note articulation. I only use this little amp for practice and low volume rehearsals and have been using it for close to 5 years specifically for that purpose and did not want to spend half or more of what the amp costs or is worth. When I first purchased the amp it was obvious the stock speaker was the weak link. The Mod 8-20 will make you happy, or should I say happier. Great little speaker at a great price. Note: make sure that when you do the swap that you connect the RED speaker wire to the PLUS connector and BLACK speaker wire to the MINUS connector tabs on the Mod 8-20 (they are marked on the Mod 8-20). You will also need to ground the Mod 8-20 by snipping the ground wired soldered to the stock speaker and attaching it to the Mod 8-20's metal outer rim (cage) by scratching or sanding a little of the paint off around one of the screw holes that secures the speaker to the soundboard and attaching under the screw. I have a Roland Streetcube Ex that I obtained for busking without AC power. The low end frequency was not satisfactory. I saw on YouTube where someone replaced the stock speakers with these. In my opinion, these did not work for me. The bottom end decreased further with the low mid being magnified far more than acceptable. I use the amp for electric guitar and backing tracks. With these speakers the bass decreased further and out of the blue the kick drum was extremely pronounced. Perhaps as guitar only these would be good. According to the Youtube poster, his backing tracks had a better bass response. My experience did not yield such results. When I reinstalled the stock speakers the backing tracks were back at acceptable EQ levels.Crazystrings

I put these in to replace a set I bought in a thrift store. Wow! The sound they produce is on point! I gave them to my eldest daughter. A really good buy. Now I'm considering a larger set to replace a set of Cerwin Vegas. Looking forward to seeing what they sound like.Claude

Replacement speaker… should drop in RIGHT? NOT! Had to re drill mounting holes to make it fit. 2ed issue, spade connectors were not standard took a little file job to make those fit. I was a little hesitant that this speaker would work for my unique application. I'm not using it for a guitar amp but as a replacement speaker for a 1948 AM/FM/Phono radio that the original 10" speaker was missing. It turns out this speaker works great. I went with the 8" version instead of a bigger one to get a greater frequency range and am glad I did. This thing rocks even though the tube amp is only putting out 5w.Chad

I used two of these speakers (8 ohm in parallel) in a clone of the Magnatone Melodier 109 that I built. They turned out to be a perfect match for the self-split push-pull circuit. They have a rich sound when played clean, and they handle the output-tube distortion that the amp produces beautifully. Absolutely perfect for blues. And the price is right! I needed replacement drivers for the Yamaha Passport 300 speakers, and after trying some alternatives these were PERFECT with superb depth and range! These may have been the originals OEM'd in the first place. Definitely recommend. Note that you will have to change the female terminal on the negative lead wire of the cabinet to the next size up. The original driver had a smaller terminal on that side.jimrn

After simulating many different 10" and 8" drivers on this site I settled on this one, and in my finished box it sounds great. It's in a 40L ported enclosure tuned to around 45 Hz (with an f3 about the same). It mated well with the dayton DC28F tweeter I used, and it is crossed at 1300 Hz but since this woofer is so clear I think I could have crossed it higher. If used in a ported box down to 45-50Hz, it runs out of excursion with less than 20 watts, but that fits what I used it for (even a small 12v amp will drive this speaker to loud levels with a sensitivity of 94dB).J Carl

Overall: I have an old Fender Rumble 15 bass practice amp, the older "non-v3" model. When playing at any kind of volume, the speaker would "fart" (I swear it wasn't me). I replaced it with this speaker, now the amp sounds much better, and can be played louder, and with more bass. It can still fart if you try, but hardly like it used to.Allen

Love my Fender 15, got it a Thrift store for much less than a new one, it was in great shape and sounds awesome, with rich deep sound. Alot louder than I figured on before I got home to try it out. Its very well Builth box and high-end knobs with a vintage Fender look. I highly recommend this little amp for convenient practice or when on the go to jam with friends. The separate Mic input and volume knobs are nice when you want to sing and play at the same time. I have a huge 4 speaker Yamaha Amp that is huge, but this little amp rivals it when both are set at lower volumes. Purchased as Xmas present for my teenage daughter who is a budding acoustic guitar player but also plays electric occasionally with clean tones only (no use or need for distortion or overdrive). Small size and ample volume for her needs make it great addition to her room. Lovely clean sound for her Yamaha electro-acoustic and my Fender Strat (which she has stolen!!). Built in chorus is nice addition but nowhere near as nice a sound as a dedicated pedal. Sufficient tone control and option for mic as well plus headphones out if desired. I had been hesitant to buy this product, but the most recent sale swayed me. Now keep in mind that this style subwoofer will not outperform a similar sized sub with a corresponding box. However, for those with limited space (two seater convertibles such as my Toyota MR2 Spyder), it fills that low-end void that the two 6.5 speakers and two 1 tweeters lacked. The JBL BassPro SL2 gives full and robust bass without overpowering the mid and high frequencies.Eric

This JBL subwoofer is very well built with plenty of adjustments. Keep in mind that it may not fit under your seat and it really will not replace a dedicated subwoofer box with a high powered amp. I needed to still have a usable trunk in my Mustang GT convertible and the solution was to create a small port to have some of the woofer inside the boot area. I don;t need a big booming bass box, just some bottom end to fill in on some songs and send some waves to be felt in my seat. This also allowed the installer to adjust cutoffs for the interior JBL speakers because some songs were really pushing those speakers too hard with distortion. Now the Sony/JBL system plays much louder and distortion free with the top down and I can hear more bass details on many songs. RCA inputs and very adjustable . Get a qulaity amp install kit because the power is going to the battery and you don't want hum, noise or issues .Sparky

After running my power wire, ground wire, and remote wire, this subwoofer did not turn on. The led power indicator flickered a couple times, but that’s it. I realize a bad unit can happen occasionally. JBL has authorized a replacement and I’m waiting for my warranty replacement. I’m looking forward to hearing what this sub can do…after I receive a working unit. I appreciate JBL honoring their warrantee, although I’m waiting on the replacement.ScoopedMids

Surprisingly good in a pair of Infinity reference 1 boxes, tweeters and crossover removed of course. The pair is being driven with only a 6 watt EL84 single ended tube amp but still attains good bass and volume levels. I do not have measurements for the following but it seems that the high frequency response improved somewhat after attaching an extra alnico magnet to the top (or back) of of the existing magnet.Jcarr76

Got a set of these for a bedroom speaker rebuild, a year and a half ago. So far I have found them to be completely impossible to inflict any damage to these. They are in cabinets with soft dome tweeters, but the GRS have no low pass, wired wide open, and handling a 100w per/ch amp. You'll run out of eardrum , before you run out of volume knob. But what floors me, is how good they sound at normal levels. Even after some hard abuse. Now as it goes, I was in the market for a set of bookshelf speakers for the living room. For just one amp, and random tunes, so I don't have to fire the whole rig up. Bought a set…… Won't bring up any brand names, to protect the guilty. Any how, the new ones are now in the bedroom, and my GRS projects are in the living room. Because they totally out out class the brand name boxes in every way. Granted, the're not pretty to look at, almost a military grade look to them, but seem to be built to that level too. But I'll take the sound over the shiny bits, and a trade mark.Paul

Great value, I used these as television speakers and got rid of those tiny tv speakers. Now I can hear the dialogue over all the other crap. I never had trouble hearing the tv until hollywood got crazy about sound, and now it sucks. I've tried to pump Rare Earth, Rush & Zeppelin through them, they're clearly not the answer for rock at high volume, but work great as patio speakers for background music.Charles

Bought this as a toy to mess about with as for this price I wasnt expecting it to be any good. My expectations dropped even more when it arrived and I saw the size of it. It is TINY!. Plugged it in to a 15w valve head and my god what a surprise. It sounds HUGE which I am still baffled by as it is a very small closed back cab. Cranked the amp expecting the speaker to collapse but nope, easily handled everything I could throw at it. Sounds really nice clean too. I am just blown away by how good this is. I've used this for about a year now with a Micro Terror Dark and I'm not that happy with it. It's primarily for home studio and recording . I should have gone with the 1×12. This one sounds a bit tinny and thin. It also cracks up a bit in anything past mid level volumes. I knew that going into the purchase as I gave away a large performance Peavy amp in leu of something where I am not keeping the neighbors up (or my kids and wife) at night. But that said – get the 1×12 – its a bit more – but I think worth it, unless you are really strapped for cash.Adamo

All I can say is "wow". I used this as my FRFR speaker for my Line 6 Pod ago. I just recently downsized to the digital age and man I am not disappointed. This thing is tiny, but with the right impulse response packs a massive punch. I play rhythm guitar for my heavy alt band and always get compliments for my tone with my Marshall paired with my Orange 212, but was honestly scared to replicate the same tone. I now use the Pod Go Revv Red with the IR I made from ML Sound Labs Mikko plug in and it sounds massive. The convenience of not having to lug my heavy gear is amazing. Only real gear snobs will tell you that it's not exact, but who cares. If it sounds good to you and your audience be satisfied. Eventually will get a second one when I start gigging again.Jason

Overall: I have been using the CP8 since they have come out. For me it’s been the perfect speaker I’ve used other brands However the sound and the articulation as well as the volume and tonality that is thrown to the audience in my opinion surpasses the others. I’ve use the single microphone like the DPA 4099 clipped onto my guitar into a TouchMix eight and then out to 2QSC CP8 speakers and the sound is absolutely fabulous. There’s a very crystal clear articulation that takes place and there’s no ear fatigue when listening to the sound that’s being produced and thrown to the audience. This provides a much more enjoyable experience to the listener. The speakers are so easy to travel with and fit in just about any trunk. I’ve been playing Winery’s, corporate events, private parties and I’m constantly getting compliments on my tone in the set up. If you’re in Acoustic Musician and serious about your tone this may be the speaker that you were looking for. I’ve also use the speaker with just my paddleboard and amazing results . Because the Stage Right 5-watt tube amp (#611705) has control knobs only for Volume and Tone, I found that I get the best-to-my-ears guitar sound when I put an equalizer pedal between the guitar and amp and then adjust the equalizer to the tone that I'm looking for. On the guitar the Volume and Tone knobs are set fully open and on the 5-watt tube amp the Tone knob is fully closed and the Volume knob is set to the volume level acceptable to the environment (for home practice the Volume knob is set to level 3 at full 5-watts). The Stage Right 5-watt tube amp is my first tube amp after having used modeling amps for at least five years. I had heard that tube amps more often than not sound better than modeling amps. After now having experienced using a tube amp I agree that tube amps (at least the Stage Right 5-watt amp) sounds better than the modeling amps I've used (which to me sound great too). For the price (I got it when priced $119) it is fantastic. It's simple, straightforward and sounds good. Nice warm tones. If you're a fantastic guitar player, this amp will sound fantastic. If you're an okay guitarist, you might want to invest in some pedals (or just keep practicing). I only say that because it is very clean and bright and it really shows off what you're playing. (I've been known to hide my sloppiness with reverb, distortion, etc.) BUT It does take pedals well – thankfully! Adding a good reverb pedal, delay and an overdrive to go along with this little guy is a good idea. The Pros: Value to Price ratio. Looks well built. Warm tube sound. The handle (yes I am talking about the amp's handle) is nice! Better than I expected. In fact, everything looks pretty good (except the cheap control knobs). 5 watts is plenty loud for home/recording use. The Cons: Good sounding, but there are better sounding. Please don't buy this thinking that this is a $500 amp. It is not. But sub $200 it is a good one. The chickenhead knobs are cheap looking. I took them off and painted them. But that's a dollar or two easy fix (if it bothers you at all). Overall: I totally recommend for $150 or less. Probably for $200. If the prices climb too much beyond that, I think there are other options. If you want to jam at home and record with it, I think you'll be happy.Brad

The Monoprice 5 watt guitar amp arrived just a few days after ordering, and arrived in good shape, due in part to the excellent shipping carton. Upon taking it out and inspecting it, I could find no flaws in the cabinet, and due to the cream color of the covering, it seemed a little bigger than I was expecting. I plugged it in, let it warm up for almost an hour, and then plugged in an ES339, using no pedals. At first, I wasn't all that pleased with the sound I was getting, but it was my fault. I had it adjusted as I do with my Albion Hybrid, but that wasn't the way. I found the best sound came from turning the Monoprice all the way up, and then use the guitar controls for volume instead. That did it, and the little amp came a alive in a big way! Sounding very similar to a Fender champ, it could go from nice clear tones to crunchy heaven with the ES339's humbuckers. I plugged in a Strat with an HSH configuration, and the single coil really made it sound Fenderish. Sweet. The only thing I found one might improve on the amp, is the speaker. As such, I plugged into the built-in external speaker jack on the back, a little Randall 8" cabinet. That really did it for me. The sound was fantastic through the entire spectrum, and was loud enough to be heard down the block. I then bi-amped it with the Albion, and the sound had all the creamy goodness I've been seeking, and that is how I now have it setup for daily use. That said, there's nothing wrong with the stock speaker on the Monoprice, and I suspect it will satisfy most users. Am very happy with this purchase, and glad I bought it for such a great price. I have two pair of Allison IV's that needed woofers, since Allison has been out of business for some time, replacements are not easy to come by. These matched the OEM woofers pretty well, in size and performance. Rubber surrounds instead of treated cloth o the OEM's, but sonic-ally they seem to be a very good match. Heavy magnets, seem to be very well made (in China). Four stars instead of five because the binding posts don't accept the speaker push clips (they do banana plugs), I needed to remove those and use bare wire. Would have been nice to have posts for those as well.Mike

I was looking to replace a blown woofer from a JBL set of bookshelf speakers. The look almost matched perfectly and installed into the existing screw holes of the cabinet. The sound of the speaker was good, but did not completely match the other speaker. This woofer takes much more power, but it it a little less efficient than the factory JBL. Overall, I am happy with the purchase and would do it again. I would recommend replacing both woofers so they would match better sound wise.LYLE

This little beaut is a real champ. I have it connected to a new Bugera T5 tube head and it couldn't be a better match. It has beautiful chiming clear tones but the lower headroom on my amp combined w this speaker cab makes a wonderful "British crunch" that I've been chasing. Can't say enough about this cab. It also comes w a short speaker cable, which I didn't know before I opened up the box. The staff at GC were accommodating in helping me test it out before I left the store (ordered the cab and had it delivered to my local GC).ADAM

I am using this driver as a center channel in my HT system. No tweeter incorporated yet, but the voices are reproduced very accurately. The enclosure is a short transmission line tuned to ~70Hz, for use as a "small" (bass limited) speaker. The efficiency is very high and should be considered when matching with other speakers. I've just completed a pair of Dallas II horns loaded with these drivers. I'm crossing them on the low end at 80hz with a 48db/octave roll-off. On the high end, I'm rolling them off at 1K, 24db/octave.At low volume, they purr right along as one would expect. After a few minutes of break-in I cranked the volume control–it was like opening a soundproof door and walking into a party! They carried their load with stunning realism, acting as if they had endured no stress what-so-ever.Smooth, sweet, and powerful, that's how I'd describe the sound.I can't see myself using any other driver for this portion of the audio spectrum. These seem to be a solid build. I have them in a sealed 3 way larger box. Paired a Dayton 12" and a JBL Tweeter. More of a budget build than a posh one. The mid sounds pretty much as you would expect at this price point. Certainly loud enough, sort of overpowered the woofer. I have run them for a few months now and they seem to of settled down. The sound is pretty good, a bit thin, level frequency respond is good. sound stage is so so. I plan to upgrade these drivers at some point. Don't feel like spending $300 a speaker though.Greg

I mated a pair of these to the Morel CAT378 (same sensitivity)and shifted the woofer forward 3/4" for better time alignment with 2kHz. 24 db LR crossover. These are by far my best sounding speakers to date. They do not go very deep so you will need a separate sub. My design was intended to allow me to use mine as Stage monitors or stand mount. I prefer the sound of these monitors using this driver over my churches older and long ago discontinued RCF ART300A's. I recently used this setup at and outdoor wedding and an coffee shop gig. Using this set up with a Sub using the B&C 12PS100 I'd say is the best small venue sound system I've heard to date. I credit this 8" driver for the very smooth midrange I've not had in other speakers and setups. The efficiency is less than most Pro stuff but the quality I got from this exceeds that of any pro stuff I've been able to use to date. These are the drivers used in the QSC I H28 speakers. I bought a pair three months ago and have been amazed and delighted ever since. They handle 200 watts at 8 ohms without a hint of distortion. In conjunction with the compression drivers they make a fantastic combination. Detailed, flat, nuanced, smooth, clear, LOUD! One of the best combo amps I have ever played or heard. Playing for 55 yrs and have owned or played almost every American and Brit amp in that time from Marshall Matchless and Orange, to Hiwatt to Fender and Two Rock. This amp is right up there in the top 10. The cleans are beautiful and full of nuance the distortion goes from tweed- like to almost full on metal. I have read the reviews from detractors of this amp claiming the cleans are dull or the distortion is fizzy. I don't get it. Perhaps they need their hearing checked? These are the same people that claim a pure hand wired amp has the best tone ever and then slam the front end with pedals containing op amps and digital components and claim the distortion is fantastic! Go figure… I have replaced the speaker with a WGS ET90 (cream back clone) and the tubes with nos: V1:RCA, V2: RFT, Power: Siemens EL34. It is simply STUNNING.Keith Morrison

I've owned a Peavey 5150 212 combo back in the day, a H&K 20 watt tube, and used everything from Marshall to Mesa, Vox and Fender, and everything in between. This amp is simply the best tone I've ever heard out of an amp, period. I originally owned the first rendition of the HT series, with the smaller 20 watt amp, which was great but lacked the "super saturated lead" voicing on the HT40. I exchanged the 20 for the 40, and enjoyed the power, incredible tones, and durability of the original HT40 for years. Fast forward to recent times, when I was trying to go smaller, and tried out many modeling amps, as I didn't think I needed the full blown power of a 40 watt valve amp anymore. Needless to say, modelling amps still sound weak, harsh, and digital to my ears, and probably always will. I ended up buying the MK2, and they actually managed to improve my favorite amp of all time. This amp has stunning clean tones, and wonderful options for a modern or more boutique voicing, and two different reverb styles. Really, the cleans I get from this Blackstar from my tele are simply incredible, maybe not Fender level, but darn close. This is the one amp I've tried that has absolutely stunning clean tones AND brutal crunch and overdrive. This amp can play ANYTHING you throw at it, from metal to country, jazz and punk, and everything you can imagine. There an emulated out for recording, a switch that outputs only 10% of the wattage and turns it into a 4watt amp, giving you incredible saturation and warmth even at low volumes. I truly cannot say enough good things about it, I am a Blackstar customer for life after my first HT40, as they truly blew me away with the tone and features. The ISF is essential to me, and can transform the tone of this amp significantly. IMO, the high gain of this amp is miles ahead of even the Peavey 6505.B. Free Productions

As many have stated, if any amp could be a "swiss army knife" of tone, this would be it. The clean channel is fantastic, and has a lot of tone shaping ability between eq settings and changing between bright and dark reverb. The drive channel has a lot of variance as well, and can cover tons of ground – anything from blues, classic rock, to flat out metal.

Where it falls flat is the PCB assembly. Flux was still all over the board, and solder joints had voids in areas and were very poorly done. I believe many of the reliability issues others have reported are due to the poor PCB assembly. It's a fairly easy fix that shouldn't cost much more than $100 by a local reputable amp guy to redo bad/cold solder joints and strip the flux off the board. Despite this handicap, it is undoubtedly worth every penny. If you play through one and love it, don't let this scare you away.David Moore

Bought this to pair with my Orange Micro Terror and Micro Dark. I did a lot of research before buying this and I had high expectations based on what i read and heard. I am actually blown away by the quality and sound of this. These little amps can get pretty loud and this cab takes it and can be pushed even more. It has a surprisingly round full sound, doesn’t get fizzy when the gain is cranked. I definitively recommend this, especially if pairing with one of those little Orange Micros. They sound great running through it and they fit perfectly on top.BDub

I paired this up with a Vox BC108 cabinet for a full range sound spectrum and 50watts at 4ohms capacity into a Quilter Interblock 45watt amp. The sound is nothing short of magnificent! warm, deep, rich bass to nice, tight, clear highs that sound like angelic voices. You would not believe the sound was coming from two 8" speaker cabinets. Pair this with a few favorite pedals once in a while and I can practice guitar, 4 string Bass and acoustic guitar all with one rig and very minimal space taken up I my bedroom.
