I was looking for a set of black tuning heads for my Fender Mexico neck that does not cost more than 100 Euros. The black finish is well done and the construction seem to be tight and stable, as well. No clank or shaking when hit the finger on the machine! I accidently droped these tuning head, but there is no damage visible. Good Job, Musiclily! However, I was hoping that these could be direct replacements for Fender Mexican Necks. It's not the case, but that's okay. Wilkinson and Schaller tuning machines also require new drills. The bushings were too loose for the headstock holes. What I did: Using masking tape to wrap it around the blushing. Old luthier tip, problem solved! Sturdy components for these tuners. They were a bit stiff at first, but if you wipe them clean and use the right lubricant for the gears, they can be of incredible quality. They came with what looks like very cheap gear lubricant, maybe even vegetable oil, I don't know. It was a little messy, but that didn't bother me. I clean any replacement parts I use anyways. These are beautiful and easy to install (installed on a Gibson Les Paul Studio) and the tuners are very smooth and accurate. However, as I have read in several other reviews, the high E and to a lesser extent the B string tuners will not lock properly with lighter gauge strings. If you are using 9's or 10's you will need to wrap those strings in order to get a proper lock. This somewhat defeats the purpose of having locking tuners. If it were not for the fact that these tuners are absolutely gorgeous, I would be hesitant to recommend them. The other issue is that the locking knobs do feel slightly flimsy to me – I say they feel because they may be perfectly robust, but compared to other brands of locking tuners that I use, they just don't seem solid enough. If you can live with these issues, then I think you will be happy with these tuners. They are definitely stunning in appearance – especially the open gear version – but time will tell if they hold up mechanically.greenback44

The tuners have a 10mm sleeve to make sure your guitar has the correct sized headstock or you will be reaming it to size. The included ump system did not work on my Yamaha Pacifica 012. The factory holes in the headstock were too far apart to mount more than 2 tuners at a time. They do come with screws and a mounting hole so that is how I had to attach them. It worked but it required drilling new pilot holes and screwing the tuners down. The tuners were staggered and I was able to remove the factory string tree. They are smooth and very precise so tuning to your desired pitch is easy. The locking pins made my string change a breeze. They hold the strings in tight without pinching the thinner strings like my Fender tuners do. High quality fit and finish as well. Beautiful tuners.bike-fi-guy

I can recommend actual hipshot griplock tuners. Im not sure these were genuine. They were in a different shaped box, smaller than the ones Ive gotten before. The screws are junk. I predrilled like I always do and two broke off before I even got close to tight. Ive literally put hundreds of tuners on guitars so its not like Im just going to randomly forget how tiny those screws are. They were substandard which is the second thing about these which makes them suspect. Tuners seemed ok on cursory look. Like I said, genuine hipshot griplock tuners are the bees knees.shoveljunkie63

Tenth set of these I have installed. As good as anything on the market in terms of quality and value. They work flawlessly and I have had zero issues in the 9 years I've been using them. I have used Grover, Schaller, Sperzel, PRS, and Gotoh tuners in the past- all good quality brands-but, for my money, these are smoother, stable and reliable, and are a better value. The mounting plate system is great and makes installation a breeze (as long as you have 10mm holes to accommodate them). They are lightweight but strong. I am the proud owner of a 1986 Japanese Fender Precision Bass Initially, my problem was getting the right key. Even though my Fender was made in Japan, the Japanese key, (BT-10) if I recall correctly, was not the correct one for my bass. I contacted HIPSHOT after my error of ordering the wrong one and after emailing some pics to them, they quickly notified me that I needed the BT-2. Once received, the key was a snap to put on. It was an enjoyable experience to be able to work on my bass and be able to add hardware to it without worry of not being able to, or the fear of having to take it to someone to professionally install it and dish out money. HIPSHOT EVEN HAS A STEP BY STEP VIDEO ON HOW TO INSTALL IT! Once installed, tuning was simple and made my bass more efficient with Drop D tunings. The BT1 has been the single best improvement for my Stingray. The machine tuner's components are very tight and hold tune extremely well in both E and when dropped to the D setting. The micro adjusting is also very tight and high quality and the entire unit could not be easier to install. If you can turn a screwdriver, you can install the BT1. I've used Hipshot Extender Keys on other basses in the past, and besides the added weight, I LOVE THESE THINGS! It's easy to install with a small Phillip's screwdriver. It expands my lower range nicely. I de-tune to a C#, and it holds it. Note: if you tune down the extender key this low (C# A D G), it will throw off your intonation on the other strings just a bit. Not enough to notice in a live setting though. As well, you may need to raise the action on your E string a tad, and/or choice to use a heavier gauged E string; but I recommend these to any and all 4stringers!!! \m/MikeyOnBass

So this was recommended to me by my guitarist to speed up changes between songs. Installation and set up is very simple. Just follow the included instructions. The "but" in the title is because the tuning post is not chrome! The key is and looks great along my other ones (I have Schallers) but the peg is nickle, not chrome.
