(Guitar there were placed on is a Tom Murphy Painted and Aged Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard w/ Brazilian Fretboard) Back in the day, Ernie Ball strings weren't packaged well; they weren't even sealed. If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. They sound great out of the package, stay balanced, and sound good for longer than I thought possible.MidnightRiderInTX
I have recently come back to playing the guitar, Sax is my primary instrument but I have had my Gibson RD Standard since 1978. I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I love the feel as far as tone, intonation, flexibility ease of bends and how the strings hold up as a whole. I would definitely recommend to a friend or buy this produce again.Antonio
I have been using the Power Slinkys (11s) for a few years now. I had switched from another brand because the Slinkys made my Strat sound more Straty. After watching a few videos on YouTube about string gauge, I thought I would buy the Regular Slinkys (10s) and see what difference that would make. When I got online to buy I saw that Guitar Center had a sale on 12 packs and since there is a pandemic, I thought it prudent to hoard strings. My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard

Have been on a medium-gauge string bender and these baby bubbies were an ear-pleasing discovery. Their tone; in E standard tuning on an Epi LP-100; is very similar to that of GHS GB-LOW Boomers strings (rich and bronze-like). Lacking the thicker core on the wound strings, though, the tension is shared more with the plain steel strings. The result of that shared tension is the 0.011" thick 1st string doesn't feel wimpy and, when drop-tuning, the 0.054" 6th string doesn't feel flubby. Drop tuning's not my bag, but for those who do such things, it's nice to know you won't have five tight strings and a rubber band. The 0.022" 3rd string doesn't feel too thick in real life, either. If the wound strings were thicker cored, I think they would have sounded even better (and they sound darned excellent after a few days of use) and definitely would've felt better, but these are excellent strings.thombrogan
I browsed through a few dozen comments and was surprised a little that nobody mentioned Jaguars. If you play a bag these are what you shoul d have on there or at least give them a good tryout. The shorter scale means lower tension so modern ultra thin strings like the factory .009s just don't balance out the mechanical design of a jaguar. These do. Their higher tension increases downward pressure on the saddles preventing slipping and of course increases pull on the term system making it both more stable and more responsive. Plus you get that punchy thumpy chimey surf sound that thin strings just don't seem to produce.Old guy.

I have been using Stingjoy string on my 3 Ibanez electric guitars and a 5 string Fender Jazz bass bass for a couple years now. I really cannot comment on the bass strings- I just do not change them often enough. The electric guitars on the other hand I change quite frequently. I have found that the Strinjoy strings make more and a broader sound 'acoustically'- that is with the guitar unplugged, and as I use low to medium output PUPS that 'acoustic' sound translates when plugged in. Over the years I have managed to get a handle on Floyd Rose double locking systems which can offer really solid tuning stability once you do learn how to manage them. With the Stringjoy strings the tuning stability on my FR guitars went from very good to ridiculously solid. Once the a new set of strings are settled in, If I stick to whole tone bends or < and nothing environmental intervenes, I can play 6 plus hours a day and be not need to tune, or if I do it is just to sharpen the high E and perhaps B string occasionally. The tuning stability coupled with the great sound and extended time the strings sound good has made Stringjoy strings my electric guitar strings of choice.Shaun F
This FiveStar review is really more of a projected rating. At the time I ordered the super balanced set, I also ordered a set of Broadways. They are beautiful strings – amazing tone and vibracy. Plus they’ve lasted 3 months- a LONG for all the bending I do. This may be partly because I also decided to use the StringJoy string conditioner, a product Ive always stayed away from. Stringjoys formula is awesome and most importantly safe for the guitar wood and finish (I ran a test on a couple beaters). I’m looking forward to trying the Balanced set- I’ve pieced sets together to get that combination- perfect for taming the loud G string on my Strat. Love these strings. Clean, bright, ringing tone and easy to bend. I like the Hybrid gauge for the lighter top end, but sometimes 9's tend to unravel at the ball. The end wrap eliminates this problem, and I haven't lost one since switching to the RPS type. I use these mainly for blues. On a short scale guitar, like an SG or a 335, (I use them on a custom, 24.75", short scale Strat and a '64 Hagstrom H2 with a 24.375" scale), I suggest replacing the 16p "G" string with an Ernie Ball 18w. The heavier gauge wound string compensates for the lower tension of the short scale, and makes for a fuller mid range. If they made this set with a wound "G", it would be perfect. IMHO.Steve
if you have a stop tail peice style guitar and need strings that eliminate the slipping around the ball end, these are the ones. Great strings, overall good tone, stays in tune well. I was having tuning issues with a les paul. Not anymore, these strings eliminate string slipping at the ball end. They stay in tune better than any strings I have used on the guitar. That adds to the overal sound of the strings, which is as good as any other stings out there. excellent no issues at all. these are not overpriced, but somewhat more expensive than the bargin sets. They are worth the extra buck or two a set.
If I had to use one set of strings, I would go with this one. Besides being incredibly reliable and consistent (no disparity between packs) these strings have served well under different weather conditions and on long hauls. I always keep these in reserve when going on the road as the gauges in the pack can work as substitutes for other strings and brands. Meaning, you can mix and match should you break a string on a guitar that's tuned to D. I've always had loyalty to the brand, though I do use a variety of strings for the other instruments I play. The strings make a good pair with the (IMO) amazing Ernie Ball Music Man guitars.Boyan P.

These strings completely changed my perception on lighter gauges. For the last few years, I'd usually go with 11-52 to allow for lower tunings but I decided to take a gamble on a lighter set. The higher strings a so smooth to bend, the lower offer a great clear sound. I haven't tried them lower than Eb standard so far. I'll probably keep the 11-52 on dropC tuning. But I'll drop my usual Cryo Dean Markley for the Ernie Ball again.
Normally I play D'addario 10's but I decided to give these strings a try during my most recent guitar set up at Sam Ash. These give the perfect amount of slack on the higher strings allowing for a bright, punchy tone and huge bends. This is balanced out by the heavier bottom 3 strings which add the extra tension making them great for drop D or other alternate tunings and an excellent twang for finger or hybrid picking.Ezra
Been using Ernie Ball 8-38's, 9-42's, 10-46's for a very long time and I have found that each has their strengths. [10-46} : 46-36-26 strings are great for driving thick rhythm. {9-42} : 11-16 strings are great for solid melody and rhythm. {8-38 : 8-11 strings are great for bending pedal steel licks to radical blues-rock bends. The best the three worlds = 8-11-16-26-36-46. From an economical stand point, the Hybrid Slinky with an .008 is a pretty affordable and fun experience. I've spent a lot of money on strings over the years and during my developmental and experimental phases I've come to enjoy this combination. The 10-46 forced me to be a better rhythm player with blue-jazz origins. The 9-42 turned me on to rock. The 8-38 taught me to create wicked country bends with speed. I hardly ever write reviews, but after changing out my strings, I no longer go out of tune! I have to say this, I have never had new strings go on and not “adjusted” a million times after breaking them in. I tuned these twice! I bashed on my guitar, and played hard to try and knock them out, and they stayed perfectly in tune. Made a believer out of me and I just ordered another set. So although this is asking about strings, (which are great strings,) I bought them for my Epiphone LP. As a lifelong Fender guy, I never thought I’d tangle with the dark side, but a lot of my favorite rock guitarists used some iteration of an HH, and even though Fender makes them, the LP is the king in ny mind. I love the guitar, and CME did a great job of quality checking it. There are some craftsmanship issues I have, and I still prefer my Player Strat, but it is nice. (I will probably change at least the neck pickup though.)

Unfortunately, I do not have a 7-string axe but if I did, it would be strung out with these babies! I buy them for the 28, 38 & 58 strings for my SRV Strat to get that Texas tone. They play just as smooth & good as any of the other Ernie Ball strings I use. I love the heavy, warm-end tone & the strings do not disappoint AND they're easy on the fingers meaning they're smooth. If you bend strings up a whole step like I do, these strings will toughen you up real fast.. These strings last and never have I experienced any corrosion. I was looking for a perfect set to stay super tight in Eb but also retain enough tension in lower tunings. I had been using the Not Even Slinky set and found the higher strings for be a little too thick and the lower a little too thin. So, I decided to give these a shot. I remove the .28 (Normally the 4th string) and that way, I have regular 11s at the top but super heavy strings at the bottom. When tuned to my signature Eb, they retain a lot of tension and are good for a nice chugging sound. When tuned any lower than Drop C, they start to lose a little tension, but still stay manageable. I'd say the lowest comfortable tuning is Drop A before they get too floppy. Overall great strings, EB is the best!Ryan
Ernie Ball Strings are great. They have a lovely "twang" to them when brand new. However, I DO like their Paradigm Strings the most, as they last for 6 months or more before I need to change them. Those Ernie Ball Paradigm Strings are the best, longest lasting strings that I have ever used. I wish Artist Guitars stocked the EB Paradigms (I'd have given a 5* Rating instead of 4* if they had Paradigm Strings). If/when they DO start to stock them and if their price is right, I'll purchase them for ALL my 7 or 8 guitars! My Mitchell MS450 (single cutaway LP style guitar) came with D'Add's, which sounded decent. When I switched them out, I went with the GHS 10's on a hunch based on things I've heard. Great move! Nice, brilliant tone, rings out for eternity if you let them! I have heard that the GHS 9's are really good on Strat style guitars, so GHS might be my go to on my Squier Strat Classic Vibe next string change.Joe
I used 11's from D'Addario for years and I would break a string consistently for every show that I played. I do not know why I kept with D'Addario for so long. I figured I needed to have a heavier string gauge for durability and better tone. Searched around and came across these strings in the heavy gauge, and I could not be happier with them. These strings have great sustain, are durable, do not corrode as quickly as other brands I have used in my professional career playing music, and, despite their heaviness, are easy to play in standard tuning. Along with playing well with a pick and fingers, these strings also sound terrific when playing slide. You can get the same great tones out of these strings that Warren Haynes and Derek Trucks have with their lighter gauges, as well as channeling the fat tones that you hear from Duane Allman from the Fillmore East show. Great Garcia tones can come from these strings as well. Basically what I am saying is that you can still get those classic guitar sounds on these heavy strings without feeling like your losing tone or playing opportunities utilized by the players that inspire you who may use lighter string gauges. These strings also (as far as I know) have a round core instead of a hex core. I think that might be a reason why these strings have so much sustain, especially when you have some distortion or overdrive keeping them warm while playing lead. If you are on the fence about getting these, I recommend you give them a try just see how they work for you. They are no that expensive and its worth it to figure out what works for you as a player. Feeling confidence in the gear you use is so essential to being comfortable on stage. Buy a pack and see what happens. You might find yourself just what you've been looking for.JFromJUNCO
I used to use Boomers for about 10 years, on all my electrics (9s). Until arthritis started creeping in. Switched to EB slinky 8s, and playing became much easier. Everything still had a huge sound, but previous order added a test set of the Boomer 8.5s for my Gibson Les Paul goldtop with P90s. Took a while to get used to the rougher feel compared with the EB 8s. But will probably order another set for the goldtop, and a set for my ES295.Joe S.

These new M-steel strings are not worth the price. I have been using EB Cobalts for the last year and now have them on all 12 of my electric guitars. Because I have been impressed by Ernie Ball's recent innovations in string making I thought I would give these M-steels a try. First impression is that they do not have the nice silky feel on the fretboard that the Cobalts do. The one thing I can say about the M-steels is they are loud acoustically which means they are also loud going through the pickups and on to your amp. I found this to be a bad thing because my rig is already set up for the cobalts strings output and these were actually so loud that they were overdriveing the front end of my amp and creating a extra unwanted highend fizziness that sounded terrible. Besides this the M-steels break easily, you heard it here first. Specifically the wound strings are prone to breakage because they have a smaller core wire and extra large windings. My guitar has locking tuners and 3 of the 6 strings snapped off at the peg when I tuned to pitch. The wound low E string and D strings did this and the non-would G string also snapped at the peg. I though the non-wound M-steel were supposed to be ultra strong? I have never had this problem with any other string type. I was using a set of M-steel 10-52 btw so they are pretty thick to begin with and should never have this kind of breakage problem. As for how long they last I wouldn't know because I was so mad at myself for paying for this M-steel gimmick that I went and ordered myself another set of cobalts and threw the M-steels in the trash. Let me start by saying that I have been a regular slinky user for years. I wanted to try something different so I picked up a set of these. When I first played my guitar with these on, I thought they were amazing! They sounded great and felt great, for a while. I've had them on for about 3 weeks now (which may be a long time for some)and they sound dead and the string noise is horrible. Every hand movement up or down the neck sounds like a pick slide. The strings also feel more coarse, and no, they are not rusty. If you are a "change your strings every week" guy, then these will work for you. On my way to GC right now to buy something different.
If you use locking tuners and go back and forth from standard to drop D for example, the wrapped strings can't manage that too many times before it breaks. I suggest wrapping the low E string around the post like you do with normal tuning posts. I haven't tried this yet, but I will with my next set, hopefully I can get some extra life out of them. I do have an Evertune bridge, so I'm not worried about the tuning instability associated with wrapping the string around the post. Besides the weakness issues, I flat out love the slinky, less weighted feel and tone of the three coiled strings. I don't notice this difference much on the higher strings. I would rate these 5, if they fix the breakage issue that happen with locking tuners and tuning down to D. I'm not one to lock my tuners using a Herculean effort either, they're just prone to breaking. I would say they'll be completely fine if you just set it and forget it.Justin

These are the best strings I've ever used. GORE has been trying to discontinue and keeps pushing the Nanoweb version: but the difference is huge! No match at all! The Elixir Polyweb maintain their tone, brightness and tension over 10 times what a Nanoweb does and probably twice that number over un-coated strings. I play every day and I've had guitars with over 6-7-8 months using the same set of strings with no issues. The're that good! BTW, my main guitars are Gibson Les Paul (TonePros Nashville and Tune-O-Matic Locking Bridge, Tusq Nut) and PRS Custom 24 (Tremolo version with Bronze Saddles and a Tusq Nut). These strings feel so good… no such thing as a strange feel because they're coated. You actually feel like playing with a very familiar and comfy feel. These Elixir Polyweb keep outperforming their competitors easily: D'Addario EXP, DR Extra, Fender DuraTone, Dean Markley Blue Steel, Earnie Ball Coated Slinky or the latest Earnie Ball Cobalt. Again: by far! In over 30 years playing and recording, I've never encountered a product of such quality in what comes to strings… and trust me: I've tried them all! This was a great price on my favorite strings. Shipping was very fast too. Unfortunately, "new" does not mean the same as"fresh" and I have now learned the difference. These do seem to be genuine Elixers, but a few problems which led to broken strings may indicate that these were either sitting on a shelf for a very long time or else exposed to moisture. Normally, brand new strings will be very springy when you first take them out of the sleeve. They generally will uncoil into a straight line, but every single one of these maintained a strong curl or twist in it. But that alone was not a problem for me. The strings installed normally and tuned well, but the tonal quality seemed a little sub-par compared to what I was used too. Still, it's possible I was just imagining that. The strings were fine for a month. Held there notes as well as any, and the tone was at least decent, though I still felt it was missing something. But after one month I had the B string break. I usually keep Elixer strings for 6 months before they finally lose their great tone and I replace them, and because I wind plenty of extra string around the posts, I haven't had a string break on me in over 8 years. Breaking one now pretty much confirmed my earlier suspicions. I went ahead and replaced all 6 strings with the next set, but 2 weeks later and the high E string broke on me. For now I'm borrowing the high E from the final set, but the first chance I get I will be replacing every string with a new, fresh set from a local music store. I don't think I'll buy strings online again because of this apparent problem of freshness.jaredlang85
Long lasting, great sound. I went to my girlfriends sisters home for Xmas and a few guys got a some guitars out and we played some rock, country and bluegrass on Elixers strung on acoustic instruments. They claimed the strings were three years old. They sounded quite good for their age. After seeing a John Paul Jones interview where he said Elixers were all he used. I already used them but his opinion completely sold me. I even bought an Elixer tee shirt. I use them on all my guitars and mandolins. I won't settle for anything else. I just bought a FX5 that had Addario's on it. No pause, I replaced them with Elixers. Great sound. Long lasting. Stay good looking too. Buy multiple set bundles and save money.easymedicine1

Hey you music hounds out there! Give Guitar Center a shot at setting you up with some gear! I also asked if they traded used pedals towards a new pedal and, yes I walked out with a new distortion pedal!! Strings are the lowest around town and in stock. These 3250 nickel plated steel wound fender strings really sound good with the bullet ends (more surface touching the tremolo) and steel is stronger and less likely to break on a large bend and the sound is a little stronger on the pickup I've been playing 30 plus years and tried many string types and this is what I buy!!! I like regular gauge .10-.46 but the choice is yours =JamMan= play till I drop……
The reason I tried these strings (3150R) was because i bought a Telecaster (Baja) in 2007. I read about fret wear being less because it matches the alloy in the frets of new Fender guitars, in comparison to steel strings. Therefore there is the hope it offers less wear and tear on the frets. I had also had problems with the Telecaster 'icepick' sound on the bridge pickup. These strings softened the icepick sound I was getting with steel strings. They last for up to 4-6 months. I think the Tele and nickel string combo is a winner for me. My attitude towards Fender strings changed after this, so I tried the bullets on my Strats. Guess what they were even better with tremelo dives and resistance to detuning. But I thought the pure nickel really affected the sound I got. I like the biting sound from steel strings (GHS Boomers, 10-46) on both a 1970 Stratocaster and a Lace sensor stock equipped 1990 Strat Ultra, so I choose the nickel-plated (3250R) steel strings. Pure joy of sound from both. I had to get a refret on the '70 Strat in 2010, so it was a good move to use these strings to avoid fret wear.

I put a set on a les paul and was pretty stunned that they sustained well and had a much more pleasing mid range and the highs were only down a little. Loved the balance. And no sqweekin with high gain!! So i put a set on a tele and started hearing some of the classic big fat tele tones. Those were all lighter sets. I've been using these strings for years… no one seems to know about them. I showed the salesperson at the cash register – tore the package open and he was amazed what "half-round" meant. These are the most flexible (style of playing and tone) and durable strings on the market! I can play Jazz, Country, Blues and Rock with them and sound top-notch. They don't have the "zip" sound of round-wounds, and are more lively than flat-wounds. They don't ever seem to corrode! Get 'em!FRANK
I bought some of these just because I was getting irritated by string squeak. Didn't fancy full flat wound. These strings are really great to play. They feel fantastic under the fingers and still have a great tone. I also love the wound g string as it has tweaked the intonation, making it much more accurate on the lower frets, in fact, all strings are more in tune on the lower frets (thicker strings I think). I used to use 10-48s on my telecaster style guitar but these 12-52s give a much better sound. If you're heavy on the bends then they will take a bit of adjustment and hardening of your fingertips! For the price I'm hoping they will last me well but so far… love em!Stefan

I have Ernie Ball Music Man Artisan Majesty guitar and I first purchased the "2623 Super Slinky 7-String Electric Guitar Strings" first from here and they sounded horrible on this guitar(very twangy) and the B string was dead. I would assume these size strings don't belong on this guitar. I purchased these Paradigm strings and they sound great. Time will tell how long they last. The packaging was very nice. This product gets a 4 due to how quick they seemed to fade. I bought the Ibanez FRIX7 and purchased 3 packs of these to try them out. At first I thought they were amazing, then after about a week I was kind of hearing less tone and it sort of kept declining from there. FYI I have extremely acidic fingers so it’s no surprise that I had this issue. It definitely last 2-3 times longer than a D Adarios so the tech does work. That said, I ended up buying heavy Elixers and using the low string from the packs of EBalls. Sounds awesome and works the way I need. Hope this helps! SamPSamuelPlayzon

I subtract a star because the first set of Paradigms I ever bought literally snapped on me the first time I used them. But since then I've had a couple of sets and their ability to stave off rust is definitely noticeable. I'd say there's possibly the smallest bit of tonal loss, but so little it makes me question whether it's just me, so I'm ultimately impressed. These strings sound different, in a good way. They are warm sounding with no hint of piercing harmonics and they stay in tune for days. Normally I have to tune every day on the strat but not these. They feel super comfortable on the fingers. I've tried several brands and these will be my choice from now on. Next I'll have to try the acoustics. Usually when I discover a product that I like, they discontinue it. I hope that doesn't happen with the Curt Mangans.NCT
These strings sound about as good as any pure nickel set can, and at a great price for the quality you receive. Most importantly to me, they feel great. The wound strings are not too stiff even though they are larger than a regular 10 gauge set. I've always preferred a wound g string and these manage to have that in a comfortable sized set for me. Some pure nickel sets have trouble lasting but these have lasted me about as long as nyxl have. I highly recommendKaleb
