Medium Gauge Electric Guitar Strings For Sale (2024 Update)

Strung on a telecaster kit guitar that I've had problems with breaking my G string (on the guitar). These are the same gauge but don't get hung up in the nut when tuning. So far so good. The price is unbeatable.Joey

If you have an electric guitar or a 12 string acoustic, you will want to have a package of .009 extra light loose strings in your drawer. The can break occasionally and with some loose strings available, you can replace the broken .009's with a spare. These are good quality. Don't get caught without spares!gnm109

I've been meaning to give SIT strings a try for awhile now. Finally did and all I can say is I wish I had started using them a long time ago. EXCELLENT strings. Stay in tune better than any other string I've used. I used a well known brand for years and seems a lot of other musicians did as well. I got tired of tuning after every song. Now with SIT if they're out of tune it isn't by much. My intonation is better, tone is great for my tele and stat. I use the 1150 Power Wound and I am recommended them to all my fellow musican brothers.Mike

I was looking for a set of strings for my Telecaster, which has a P90 at neck. The tone I like most is within the range of pop/classic rock/hard rock. Two other sets for my reference are Ernie Ball 2250 Classic Pure Nickel Power Slinky and Ernie Ball Slinky Cobalt in 11s, which I use regularly on my two other guitars. S1150 gives a full, smooth clean sound. It has a stronger mid presence comparing to the Ernie Balls. The high is smoothly rolled off so even the Tele bridge clean tone (which I won't use that often) doesn't have a strong honky character. I guess it's not the best if your pickups are already mid-strong, like a serial humbucker. For distortion, it provides a medium granularity. So it gets into the hard rock territory but not the heavy metal domain. The Ernie Balls sounds finer and the SITs gives a more in your face feeling. In summary, it provides a different tone than the Ernie Balls so I'll associate it with my Tele for a long time. It's probably not the best choice if you are looking for a more angular/aggressive sound, but it's a safe choice for the tone conservatives.immyownpet

I've been using black beauties for years now. Originally bought them for the look they gave me on my black Tele. They really lasted a long time. And they produced good tone on the instrument. Of course some the coating wore off at the picking area after a few hours of use. Everyone expects that. But you could only tell if you get real close. the fingerboard area stays coated real well. And keeps that slick feel. I don't notice any sound degradation, and the intonation remains constant. And hey Kids, a black majic marker fixes the chipped coating! Just kidding ! I really do find that these strings last a long time and I bend them all over the frets. I constantly buy these.J W GUITARS

Overall: I'm really not that tough to please but these strings are a disappointment to me. I do like the black color, BUT – and I kid you not! – within ONE minute of playing the black was already coming off my high E string and I was playing with my fingers, not a pick! I saw what looked like a piece of fuzz on the string so I started wiping it off, only to realize it's the black color coming off further and further. Within five minutes I had about an inch and a half of bare string showing. It comes off so easy it seems lit it's just spray paint. I understand it won't last forever, but one minute?? Come on. The other thing I don't like about these strings is they have an uneven plastic type feel to them. It's not horrible, but they don't feel like "regular" strings. Other than that they sound OK, nothing special, so I'm definitely not buying these again.Tim

These look awesome and have a very smooth nylon feel. They don't sound bad at all. Maybe a little different I'm sure. They will shed the coating eventually, especially if u use a custom plectrum/pick made of metal or some other highly dense material. Metal will remove the coating immediately! The coating may also slow down the corrosion process. They are holding up good so far. I like these strings. I have a set of white strings somewhere. Those seem hard to find.jcfvintage

This is my first time using DR Pure Blues. I put a set on my Tony Iommi Signature Epiphone Blackout edition and they sound fantastic play and feel great. I've never been so in to a type and brand of string before. I've used DR hi beams and fat beams for well over 10 years and I've always considered them to be the best. Even response and touch and a long life are descriptions I would normally think of with DR strings. These have those but with a new twist. They use a different kind of wrap that gives the string the touch and the flexibility of Nickel But also incorporates the sound of stainless steel. So you can play with your fingers and get a round punchy tone or hit it hard with fingers or a pick and get that tough , hard, aggressive sound. Great string!!!!Dave

Like a lot of other Pure Blues purists, I was a longtime player of DR Hi-Beams (an excellent string in it's own right). I loved their long lifespan and the articulation in the harmonics and highs the steel strings offered. However, Hi-Beams are a little aggressive in terms of feel and too harsh sounding out-of-the-box for most; they tend to sound best after a some playing time. Enter Pure Blues. You get the feel of nickel, the articulation of steel, still a near infinity lifespan, and an excellent consistent sound during that duration. Still great for slap and picking, and you can roll the tone back and get some more mellow tones without losing all that rasp you want out of roundwounds. I've used all kinds of strings in my years: Roto, LaBella, D'Addario, Fender, Ernie Ball. These are the best roundwounds you can get, period.Patrick

First off, I am the biggest Van Halen fan you'll ever find and have nothing but respect for the Brown Sound. That said, you won't find it in these strings. They're awful. They're constantly at odds with my Floyd Rose and I've yet to keep them all in tune without the Low E flopping all over the fretboard. And the strings that do stay in tune produce a tinny, whiny sound through the same settings that were cranking out near-Van Halen tone from Ernie Balls. This is my first experience with the EVH equipment line and I must say I'm not impressed. The only connection to Van Halen I see here is that only Eddie himself could make these things sound good.Lee

So I ordered a five pack and so far two of the packs had strange issues. Pack number one had a missing high E string then pack number two had an extra G string. This was my first purchase of 5150 strings and probably my last.dkgetz

If and when you find these for a reasonable price BUY THEM!! Since Eddy died anything with his name on it skyrockets in price. I don't play as often as I'd like, but when I do I play hard. These strings are some of very few that stay in tune, don't corrode or flatten out on the fret side. ALL strings should be thoroughly wiped down after use. GHS Fast fret is a great choice, rubbing alcohol followed by mineral oil is another.blue-mike

Overall: I put these on my Strat 4 hours ago and without hesitation I can say that these are 5 star strings. There is definitely more sustain and volume and I really like the feel. Strange “grey” winding actually matches my brushed nickel hardware. Quite an inexpensive way to make my amazing Jeff Beck Strat even better. These are now my “go to” strings which says a lot since I’ve actually been using Super Slinky strings since I was introduced to them in a music store in San Francisco in 1969.Buy these!John

Paid over 10 put all strings on not overwound and then wiped finger marks from guitar and b string 0.13 gauge just broke for no reason??. So dissatisfied and disappointed had to fit a cheaper 0.11 gauge which are for nines not the tens I purchased. Wont buy again just wasted 10 plus now have ten strings mixed with a nine b string. Well, I guess for some, these would be great strings, but not for me. On the plus side, the sound is great, no doubt about that. Nice bright tone. Sounds sweet with distortion or clean. When I play clean and kick on the chorus they sound perfect. Same with distortion. And they look good, too. But, and this is a big but, as some others have said they are thick. For me, it's just the low strings that I have a problem with the thickness. Like when I play on the low E string, I feel like I'm playing bass. This isn't really a problem sometimes, like if I'm strumming or playing chords, but if I'm shredding, it just doesn't work out for me. I'm used to playing GHS xtra light Boomers. So this was a BIG difference. Luckily, I got some GBXL's too. I mean, I know they make Progressives in lighter gauges, but I can't find them anywhere. These strings are good, just too heavy of a gauge for my tastes.In conclusion, if you just play power chords and breakdowns, these strings are great. But if you're doing a lot of sweeping or legato, I wouldn't recommend these. I'm not the best guitar player, so they may be perfect for other people, but for me, they are just way too thick.The Jester

I am a drummer. My son needed strings. He took a few lessons years ago, and recently decided to try again. Guitar needed strings. I put on a full set and tuned it up. Seem to be functional. I've used many strings over the yrs as most guitarists do. But I always go back to Ernie Ball. They are just simply the best quality and tone wise. I'm mad it took me so long to try these though. I love the slightly heavier bottom while still having the mid gauge on the highs that you normally get from the regular slinky set. They work great for standard tuning but work even better if you tune a half step down (my main tuning). Don't hesitate and get your pack or packs today. You won't be disappointed.Vince, T

Tried this string more for helping out with a slight string buzz on the low E. Thought a heavier low E would help out, which it did. That said, awesome sounds for thumping rhythm playing while leaving a standard 10s on the high end for note bending. Great balance when comparing 9-46 hybrid sets, which seemed more out of whack for me. Can't say yet for longevity but assume similar for Regular Slinky which benefit from a string cleaning after each use.Axel

Bought these on a recommendation from a guy on YouTube and have not had any issues at all. I used Dean Markley Blue Steels for nearly 20 years, but due to lack of availability, was looking for an alternative. The individual who recommended them is a touring professional guitarist. I've tried many string brands out there and have come back to Ernie Ball in the last couple of years. They sound and feel great, stay in tune (assuming you have a guitar that stays in tune), and are durable (no strings last forever). You can simply depend on them.Frank

I have used Ernie Ball Slinkys since I started playing guitar (time that can be measured in decades, that's all I say). I have been through other top brands, and just don't like them. I have gotten to know EB strings to the point where I can nearly predict when they'll break. That's good in my book. The lively tone and intonation stays for a LONG time. And they're good enough to scrape clean and, in the word of Billy Idol, Start Again. Well, that beats boiling them (RIP EVH). BB King famously convinced Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top to switch to lighter strings and Billy never looked back. Tone can be shaped so much by the amp so the primary function of strings is feel and playability. Lighter strings like these mean you can play harder for longer. I also find I'm playing more accurately because my movements needs to be more delicate.Jack C.

You have to try these strings for yourself. No matter what anyone reviews or says, this is a matter of preference. So I say spend the money and try them. I will relate my personal review now. First off Ernie Ball strings are very good strings. I would say that about Curt Magnum, DR, GHS pure Nickels and Fender pure Nickels also. I play pure Nickel strings which are mellow strings btw. I normally use .10s and .11s. This was an experiment for me because I went down a rathole one night on the internet reading about what strings "the stars" use. I read what people said and honestly it is entertainment in itself!!! If you use 10s or heavier, you will have to adjust your neck, action and intonation. These no getting around that. The tension is very different. If you re-adjust your tone settings on your pedals and amplifiers, you'll get a usable tone with these strings. You'll have to play with your pickups also since they respond differently. Don't use these strings if you have a heavy picking hand like SRV. If you have a light hand or can switch it up and play softly, try them. DON'T go out and play a gig if you haven't spent some time with them, especially if you are dropping down from 10s or 11s. If you use 9s, you'll probably be ok. I am all for playing without tiring and playing without hurting my tendons. Maybe I will stick with these OR NOT. I have them on a PRS Custom 22 SE. I use 2mm V-picks. You had better use light picks with these strings. I switched to a Fender medium. So I use 11s when tuned down a half step. 10s up to pitch. If you have tendonitis from playing guitar 3 or 4 hours a day for 50 something years, these will be a refreshing change and you may not have any pain whatsoever. These are certainly the strings to use on a guitar that has a neck issue where the truss rod won't handle 11s or 10s. Nowadays, necks don't seem to be made to handle the medium or heavy gauge strings that I grew up with. Whatever I say doesn't matter. When it comes to strings, you will have to try them yourself and decide if they work for you or not. I purchased four sets to try on numerous guitars. I may get up enough nerve to use them at a gig. These may be strings to put on student guitars so they don't get discouraged.Rick

Ernie Ball has always been a high quality guitar string. Used by beginners, every day pickers, and professional musicians. They provide great sound and a great feel when played on a cheap guitar, or high dollar instrument. Im no professional guitarist , but I do know The Ernie Ball Slinky series string should be your number one choice when looking for a great all around string. There on all my guitars. (Guitar there were placed on is a Tom Murphy Painted and Aged Gibson Custom Shop 1959 Les Paul Standard w/ Brazilian Fretboard) Back in the day, Ernie Ball strings weren't packaged well; they weren't even sealed. If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. They sound great out of the package, stay balanced, and sound good for longer than I thought possible.MidnightRiderInTX

I have recently come back to playing the guitar, Sax is my primary instrument but I have had my Gibson RD Standard since 1978. I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I love the feel as far as tone, intonation, flexibility ease of bends and how the strings hold up as a whole. I would definitely recommend to a friend or buy this produce again.Antonio

I have been using the Power Slinkys (11s) for a few years now. I had switched from another brand because the Slinkys made my Strat sound more Straty. After watching a few videos on YouTube about string gauge, I thought I would buy the Regular Slinkys (10s) and see what difference that would make. When I got online to buy I saw that Guitar Center had a sale on 12 packs and since there is a pandemic, I thought it prudent to hoard strings. My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard

I've been using Dean Markley Blue Steel strings for years but now I'm searching for alternatives because the Blue Steel strings are always out of stock. I ordered Pyramid strings because that's what Wolf Hoffman of Accept uses. However, I ordered the stainless steel strings because I'm allergic to nickel. These strings are great…very nice feel and the tone is very bright which I love. I've tried the strings on my Gibson Les Paul, Gibson Explorer and Jackson Soloist and the results have been great. I tried multiple gauges with good results. In addition, the strings have lasted a long time – took a long time to tarnish and the wound strings kept their tone. I'll definitely continue to use these strings.Stephen

Pure and even tone from string to string. Edgy. Tight lows and sparkling highs. Bright, clean, clear. But not shrill. Just a bright, clean tone. Chords ring with authority. Leads drill holes into your brain. String noise is a minimum but yet the string amazingly retains special harmonic quality. These strings seem to be high quality and well-made. Can't tune these to open G. The low G string broke the tuning peg gear on my guitar trying to get from A to D, it was old so I replace all pegs, then it even broke the new peg. The high G string just snapped. The D string was the only one to not have a problem. Maybe it's me, but this is the 2nd time I've tried these over the last 5 years and both sets gave me problems.1stbaseman

Thank you very much for the strings. No problem with the quality but im new at this and the strings, when in tune are loose. I think i need thicker strings. The neck is 450mm long and from where the strings touch the 2 ends is 650mm. Could you please tell me an epic set of strings to buy and ill get them. Cheers guys Robert….
