I use the product for practicing & recording and possibly for gigs. Loud, very clean sound. Works well with the DV MARK 4×12 which has some odd resonant frequencies. Works well with my other cabs too. Takes pedals well. However, I may cover the amp title for gigs. Raw dawg is cool for bars, but maybe not for schools or church. Piece of electrical tape should cover it up fine if needed.Edwin

Not only does this 5 watt lil' monster have enough power to rattle the windows, it also has class! At only 9 lbs. the Bugera T5 Infinium has enough "UMFF" to push your favorite 4X12" cabinet into the stratosphere! It's better having this reverb built into this lil' madman than not having any at all. Just like 9/10 of the other amp heads in its class. The 1 channel, "all tube" head has warm cleans. Push in the PHAT switch and crank the volume and gain and you get saturated distortion that will blow you away! All of that in a 9 lb metal cage like package for only $200! You won't find another 5 W head with all of that for this price. I love my T5 Infinium from Bugera!brmul-8207
What it's not: Not a $1k boutique tube amp. Not a mid-size club amp (unless you have great monitors and a good sound guy). What it is: A well designed, very affordable little monster that will give enough stage volume at 5W for rehearsals in a full rock band or small club, and will also allow you to drive the output stage at that 1W or 1/2W setting for recording at home. The amp sounds best at 5W and driven into either a 4ohm cabinet or two 8ohm cabs. If you use it to drive an 8ohm cab, you are getting only 70% of its potential. I only use el84 based amps. i love their dark, throaty sound, and while this amp doesn't have the punch or snap I get from my 15W custom built el 84 amps, it sounds great for rehearsal or recording. I am a little bit worried about long-term build quality. The input jack is plastic. I have a hard time seeing that surviving a year of rehearsals without breaking. This is a great supplemental amp for rehearsals and recording. Very smartly designed. Good feature set. And if you like the el84 style sound, it delivers it above expectations at this price range. In these days of small solid state, practice amps, this little amp gives you tube tone and more at a very affordable price. A 12ax7 preamp tube and an EL84 power tube provide the tone along with built in reverb, 2 band EQ, gain and a "phat" overdrive switch for added crunch. The three stage attenuator is a nice touch. The stock Bugera tubes are OK but I switched them out with Tung-Sols which provided a rich creamy overdrive more to my liking. Great sound when plugged into my Orange 8" or 12" cab plus headphone jack for late night playing. Great amp for the price!Isom

I bought the amplifier based on sound clips and others reviews. I love the amps clean channel with OD, Eq and delay in the signal chain for my driven sound. It gets a very articulated, clear, deep throaty sound that is intoxicating for rock sounds. I only have to turn it up to about 4-5 to be clearly heard in the mix. I don't care much for the OD channel as I find it a bit harsh for my taste, even when I dial it back a bit & Eq. it. The only comparisons I have are to my VOX AC 50 and Mesa V mark 25 valve amps. This amp is a great, inexpensive alternative that is ultimately portable – glad I bought it!Dr Crusher
This is a good amp that will give you different results based on your pickups and speaker cab. The tone stack is a bit dark so I like it less with humbuckers than with single coils, but it's still very useable either way. Depending on how you set it, it may or may not have trouble cutting through a band mix. I haven't had that problem, but my amp is always mic'd and we don't play super loud. The dirty channel is – from what I understand – more like an OD pedal overlaid on top of the clean channel. It sounds good and has its own lo/hi EQ and can go from a semi-clean boost to about as much gain as a tubescreamer or the like. Sounds very good, IMO, to the point that it would be possible to use this amp with no pedals for a gig. And it does take pedals well – I haven't run into anything that doesn't sound good. Overall this is an excellent lightweight amp that sounds great and is very giggable. I don't know that it's "better' or "worse" than "a tube amp" (as if tube amps are one generic thing). It just sounds good. I've never felt it lacked anything. I run it through either a 1×10, 1×12 or 1×15 cab and all sound great.Al
Love the clean channel – sparkly without ice pick highs. I don't care for the OD channel, it sounds too harsh for my style. I get the sound I want through an old GenX 2 from Digitech fed into the amp & out to 2 single 12" speakers. I'm blown away by how loud this little amp can get. For many years, I've heard how great the Kemper is, but the price was a bit daunting. So, I went through different rigs, looking for specific tones. When I needed a different tone, I needed to change my rig. So, I decided to try the modeling rigs. The problem with the modeling rigs is that they are software representations of how the developers/programmers "think" the amp is going to react. For the most part, they do a pretty good job. The downside is that when the modeler gets older, and the development stops, you no longer have any updates, or any new amp models. This is NOT the case with the Kemper. The Kemper is not a modeler, it's a profiler. You profile an amp, and you have the sound in your Kemper. The sound is generated from the Kemper's profiling, which means that it is NOT guitar specific. It comes with a ton of built in effects, so that you can get any sound you are looking for. You basically have a unit that is "future-proof". If an amp comes out in a couple of years, you can profile that amp, and have it in your arsenal. If you think about it, it's pretty much the cheapest amp head on the market, because it's essentially EVERY head on the market. The 3rd party vendors, selling profiles is amazing. You can find any amp that you could ever want. This is the best choice I've ever made. The sound quality blows away anything I have played through before. Simply amazing. I played with a $3k pedalboard and a $1200 amp that equaled about 120 lbs of gear. Now I play with $900 worth of pedals (the remote, mission pedal, and a wireless), a $1800 amp at about 35 lbs. The difference now, besides the $$$ saved and weight, is the tone has way more versatility. I am able to play profiles of amps that are worth way more than the kemper and switch guitars without having to tweak much. Its a stellar piece of gear out of the box. I play semi-professional. Recently purchased the Kemper after owning the Axe Fx basic model. Although there are a lot of features the layout is so simple and intuitive that I was able to make adjustments, firmware updates and amp favorites sections in seconds. literally that easy. These types of steps were much more cumbersome if not downright difficult with the Axe Fx. On to the Amp Profiles- well they're not models- each title feels like a breathing reacting amplifier- you literally get 300 to play with right out of the box- but to my amazement, I downloaded the rig manager and was able load into my Kemper another 15 dream amps that the kemper community had posted. By the way, this was 15 out of over 5,500 other amp choices to load! The tones I was able to create in a very short time had me shaking my head. Each amp can be tweaked and the range of tone is amazing. I was able to adjust any amp to a point where i was capturing a great sound and then of course could save that snapshot immediately. I feel that the technology in the Kemper finally has captured what many others have attempted in the amp modeling field. The Kemper is in a class of it's own. overall I really like this amp. the dirty channel has a good crunch. Not a very tainted sound, which I like a lot. Clean channel is not real chimy like some, but nice and clean. the face plate is also black, unlike the 30 watt which is easier to see. The issue is the channel switching. While some amps are known for a load pop, this is quite the opposite, and I am guessing the pop is what they were trying to avoid. this one actually drops in volume and then comes back up between channels. Deal breaker. I can't use this live if it cuts out. Really wanted to have this kicking around for a second amp. But I will be returning this.brian
First one arrived and the overdrive channel sounded awful. Made arrangements to return it and the process went quick, I had a new one a week after sending the bad one back. The second one turned out as advertised. You can dial in a wide range of tones and has that beautiful tube sound. The reverb is just a tad weak but still ok. Also, effects pedals sound great. I had a 50 watt 6L6 guitar head and sold it only to regret it later. I saw this one on sale and I took a chance. Glad I did. Disclaimer: I only use it for a pedal platform, although I have tried the gain channel. It's "ok" (not great) but to use the amp that way you'll really have to work with the both channels to achieve unity volume. As a clean channel pedal platform it's great. Like others have said the reverb is lacking but I usually just leave it on 10:00 for ambience. This amp is LOUD and can easily hang with a large band if needed. As far as reliability, time will tell, but it seems well made IMO.john

I bought this amp on a wim and I'm glad I did. I wanted a light weight little tube amp to lug around to play small gigs with. I'm old and I don't like to bring out amps that are just too loud and bulky. After swapping out the tubes a couple of times to find what my ears liked, it just perfect. I'm not going to tell anything about how it sounds because that would not mean anything. We all search for a individual sound that is on YOUR head. I will day this. The amp is a great platform to mold into that sound we all are looking. I purchased 2 of the single 12" cabs. O opted to do this instead of the 2 x 12" because I wanted to keep the weight down for moving it around. The 18 watts is plenty loud enough to cut through and be heard. I like the amp so much that I use it for every show. I can play small to large gigs with no worries. When we play bigger events I just run into the board but still use the cabs for monitors. So I can hear my rig. The days of having to lug a full 100 watt stack are not needed anymore. So all in all this a great little amp and it will satisfy most everyone with a little adjusting. I also love that tube replacement is just plug and play. It will tell you if your tubes need replacing and it's self biasing.worldtrdex
Classic Hughes and Kettner tones in a little monster of an amp! Plugged it into a 12 x 2 cabinet and DAMN! this thing is beautiful to listen to. Clean or over driven, this amp is a pleasure to play guitar on. However when overdriven the nuanced variances between different guitars are not well appreciated. The overdrive is more muddy and less nuanced in my opinion. Comparing different strat styles here with different pick-up combinations. Tele sounds different. Chambered SG style sounded the same as other strat style guitars with humbuckers. Parker and Ibanez S series with infiniti 2 pickups sounded distinctly different. Have not played neodymium pickups on it yet but I'm hoping that will clear up some of the mud.arcticwynd

I own the OG 6L6 50 Watt Fender EVH 5150, in addition to having owned every single (including all peaveys) variant of the 5150. The 5150 EL34 captures the more british extreme of the 5150 sound and manages to stay brutal and diverse. The concentric knobs were a great addition and the output balancing between channels helps even out channel switching. The amp's features in a 50watt package should be more than enough for semi-pro and professional musicians playing club-sized gigs without pro sound, or just about any venue scale with proper sound (the amp also has a preamp out signal as well). I got it with the matching cab and it's right up there with the OG 6L6 as my go-to amp. You won't regret it.
Got the 6L6 5150 Black Stealth last fall…it is incredible but there was something about this EL34 after watching several demos and deciding it needed to be home with its 6L6 Brother. The EL34 cleans are crystal like and pristine! Channel 2 has that grit, warmth, clarity yet buttery rock goodness! Channel 3 is excellent to round out and take the lead. This amp has been great in inspiration, performance and recording. It was more than I hoped for even with the positive reviews and demos. It is easy to dial in a sweet tone. In fact, I have done so blindly and it just makes each note resonate and stand out. I have it running through a JCM 1960 A cab. Together, they RAWK! Another awesome thing about this amp is the headphone jack for late night practice and you can get sweet tones without shaking the house unlike other amps of this nature. The green (clean) channel on this amp through the 2×12 cabinet is absolutely incredibly. Expressive, responsive, articulate, and full of character. I recently tried out a Divided by 13 LDW amp and was blown away by the clean tone. I had always considered myself a Fender/6V6 person until that point. That amp was already sold, was twice the price, and is impossible to come across. This amp is the only one I could find that has both the EL34s and 12AX7s, and has that same unique clean tone that's somewhere between a Marshall and Fender in all the right ways. I could do without the red channel entirely, and would prefer to have separate eq controls for the green and blue channels, but easy enough to compensate with a tone knob.Faisal

I picked up a 'B Stock' from PMT great condition/product. Fantastic Amp! great with pedal boards. When the revies say its Loud they're not exaggerating! It's Loud! Really Loud! Ar home running a GX100 through the front at half volume I had to set the Amp to 0.6 (not even 1) at 5W, it has 2 more settings 5/15/50. If your looking for a Loud Amp work great tones without spending £000's this is a great choice. I wanted that classic Marshall tone and power, but love the versatility of the modern effects/pedal boards. After reading lots of reviews from various sources all 4.7/5 4.9/5. I'd agree 4.9/5. The 3 volume settings of the attenuator mean you can use it at home, with drums/SML venues. The clean tones are… to behold, warm buttery smooth. Add a pedal board to the front of the amp it handles ot perfectly. Best in class at this price point.
Great amplifier, especially for the money. First of all it is an amazing pedal platform amp with nice bass and mid response. Everything I've run into it sounds really good, and it's near breakup gain is gain on 10 and boost off. It is most like a JTM45, it has a lot more bass and more active tone controls than later Marshall amplifiers like the JCM900 I previously owned. It doesn't overdrive too much on its own, but if you push it with a booster, it does pretty well. It is loud, even in the low power setting, and to really get it to drive, you need to push the power amp. It also doesn't seem to have as much drive as I remember from trying a 50 watt version, but that may have been the guitar more than the amp. Great value, I would recommend it to anyone looking for what I just described. If you want something that sounds like a Super Lead, Super Bass, or JCM800, this is not the right thing to buy. If you want a great pedal platform or early Marshall sound, you can't beat it.Craig
I've had My Marshall Origin for about 6 months and I've been pleasantly surprised. I've been a Les Paul/Marshall guy for 40 years and I have the hearing loss to prove it but this Marshall has it all. This versatile 20 watt head is the perfect combination of versatility and guts.This Amp is perfect for pedals as it great grand daddies were, I use an J Rockett Archer Ikon Klon clone, An OCD a Tone City King of Blues and an original Electro harmonics LPB-1 booster. I can go from crystal clear bell like tones to Ace's plexi grind to the verge of jCM 800 tones or straight in crank the Gain and get that sweet traditional Marshall tone and attack. Unlike the Marshalls of old the EQ section greatly influences the color of this Head and along with the tilt control which replaces the need to jump channels from the Hi and Lo inputs its all there. The addition of the switchable effects loop is a huge plus as is the gain/Boost control which gives you that little extra edge for leads. Running the amp on full and using your guitars volume and tone controls gives you a lot of versatility as well. The adjustable power out put feature is nice for quiet practice but I prefer to use my Bugera PS-1 attenuator and keep my amp volume on 10, just a personal preference. A suggestion, I've used this head with 1×12 and 2×12 cabinets an it sounds good but when i finally plugged it into a 4×12 this amp took on a whole new personality. The 4×12 let this amp breathe and with the EH LPB-1 driving the front end and a little reverb I had ACE's Kiss alive tone dead on by using the gain boost and a little color from various pedals the tone possibilities a vast. All in all this amp would be a great deal at twice the price, marshall once again did it right.Miggs

In mint condition includes all accessories played for about 8 hr total. turns out i m not a fan if the brit sound but i can say its loud for a 20watt amp could definitively play a small gig with it and play over any drummer. i also replaced the power tubes with jj kt77s smoothed out the tone a bit. best part the amp is cathode biased so you can replace the power tubes without manually biasing amp if you choose to go back to reg. el34s or any el34 variant. i also just noticed there is a scratch on the handle but nothing else is cosmetically wrong with it i double checked to make sure .

I have owned several amps in the last 40yrs. Always looking for "that tone" and never quite found it. Peavey's a Marshall and a Carvin. The last being a 100W head. And with all of them and a line 6 floor pod, was never happy. I am so happy with this head on my 4×12 marshall cab that all I have used the floor pod for is the tuner. I'm sure at some point I will probably use the pod for some effects, but for what I mostly play its not really needed. Of course there are many things that can effect this so ill just give a short list of the main guitars I use and the pickups. Gibson Les Paul with Slash Seymour Duncan's, wired 50's and a Gibson 137 all stock. I no longer play out so the 100w Carvin was just not good in my basement. Couldn't push it to the point of natural breakup in a confined space. This amp goes from almost crystal clean to a beautiful natural saturation. And the dirty channel picks up where the clean leaves off and goes to the verge of metal. Throw a overdrive pedal in the mix and there isn't much you couldn't play on the fly.Brad B
I have had it for a week and love it. It goes from super clean to full on metal overdrive. Price was good—delivered quick. Seems well built enough. The only thing I would change is to give the clean / classic channel some crunch so i could go from a light crunch to a heavy lead sound when switching channels because the clean channel is clean even when fully cranked. The DSL100 has a crunch option on the clean channel so it would be nice to have it here as well. But you can use the ultra gain channel and use the guitar volume to clean it up etc. I assume the clean channel would take pedals well from other reviews I have seen. Overall it rocks and gets really loud. Gig-able I think. Highly recommended.Tuckerman
I bought 2 of these heads to drive Marshall MX12 cabinets. I was previously using 2 Marshall DSL40CR combo amps. I thought I could save space by having the small heads instead. I was wrong. FYI, the DSL40CR amps sound great (mine are upgraded with Creamback speakers). First off, the amps both had horrific white noise when you turned up the reverb. 2) one amp made some weird static noise when you moved your hand around the face plate, touching the face plate actually changed the tone. I have never in my almost 30 years of using guitar amps had this. 3) The amps sounded thin and tinny. To the point they were unusable. I returned them for a refund and when both amps arrived at Musicians Friend, they stated that they only received one amp (although both amps arrived the same day). A day later the 2ne amp was marked as received. I received one amps refund on Saturday, and now I guess I have to wait till Monday for the second refund. What a joke. BTY, I also ordered a brand new EHX pedal when I bought the amps and they sent me a used one instead! Musicians Friend is such a joke now a days it's sad.MLM

The marshall jvm410h joe satriani edition 100w head is an addition to the marshall signature series. marshall's r&d engineers worked vefry closely with satriani to craft the jvm410hjs. after much experimentation and an assortment of trials that involved satriani using prototypes during recording and touring, they signed off on the final version and the jvm410hjs went into production. the most notable difference from the original jvm410 is that the reverb pots have been replaced with four nose gates, one for each channel, and each with their own threshold. a mid shift button has been added and can be used with both the od1 and od2 channels. the clean channel is based on the 6100 when on the green mode, with the orange and red modes being hotter variations. the crunch channel takes the original jvm410 crunch and adds some of the popular marshall "afd" circuit to it. the od channels are voiced identically, based on the jvm410 od1 but with the gain scaled back slightly and a smoother transition between modes. the mid shift button determines the difference in mid character between the original jvm410 od1 and od2 tone, moving the mids from around 650khz (mid shift off) to around 500khz (mid shift on). the jvm410hjs is powered by el34 tubes and has two master volumes, the supplied footswitch allows you to switch between channels, modes, master volumes, fx loop and now the noise gates and mid shift as well. there is also a full midi implementation.

Extremely versatile amp. I play a lot of electric blues but I grew up on hard rock/metal. Today I also play a little bluegrass, country, classical, pop and whatever suits my mood at the time. But at the end of the day, I usually revert to a heavier sound. Now the Marshall has a nice clean sound, although not as clean as my old Fender Pro Reverb. You can't have everything. Where this amp really shines is in its ability to generate anything from mild overdrive to extreme high gain. With this amp I can get high gain harmonics that I could not get from other amps, even with heavy gain effects. The only negative really is that the amp is quite physically heavy.Fuzzy
Firstly, I am in a bar/party cover band of older (>30 years to nearly 60) musicians with day jobs. We are not all Recent Hits, but do mostly songs people have heard of in all years from mid 60s to this year. The flexibility of this head is its big feature for someone like me. This is not a prescriptive review — this is just how I use it. Some of the skeptics have wondered why you would need 4 channels with 3 tones each. They have a good point, but not one that applies to a cover band. If I had to have one amplifier, it would have to produce the tones that this amp can do on channel 2 (crunch) green and orange, and channel 3 (OD1) green and orange. Crunch orange and OD1 green are quite similar and are the tones of the classic plexis and old Marshalls. Crunch green is what you would want for "clean" tone with a Marshall level of compression and just a little breakup for an electric guitar. OD1 at orange is what you would do for distorted classic rock — adding an overdrive in front of a plexi or a very saturated pickup, for example. For every song I really like, and everything I would do if I wasn't doing covers, those two channels at those two colors would cover it. For gigs, I can set channel 1 (clean) and Channel 4 (OD2) to be more extreme. The clean channel is actually what i use to be my acoustic guitar and occasionally as my hollow body electric emulating an acoustic. It is not perfect, nor is as good as having a specialized acoustic amp or clean tone jazz amp. However, it is good enough, and it simplifies the signal path to not have separate amps, and there is enough separate EQ to make it work. Channel 4 can be used for dirtier, more distorted stuff, and the weird thing is that now I use it entirely for country. My band doesn't do any metal, and the heaviest guitar sounds we do are the likes of Carrie Underwood. Getting the hiss to go away is not that big of a deal — put an MXR Smart Gate or any other gate I've tried into the _serial_loop_ and twist the knobs — it will take care of the problem. The JS head might be better and I haven't tried it. I do appreciate that you can't use the OD channels on this without a noise gate, but it isn't a big dial to fix. The reverb is good but nothing special. Reading this review before submitting, I realize that the oddest thing is that I personally have no use for any of the red versions of the four channels. That is probably a classic rock attitude — this thing has a lot more metal tone than I will ever use, so you should use other reviews if you want that.Iceandsnow
This is just and amazing head… I can't complement it enough. I wanted so many of the iconic Marshall tones but couldn't afford to go out and buy a JCM 800, 900, Plexi…etc. This head truly does a great job of getting all the tones your looking for. It does take a little dialing in with all the different modes in each channel to find what they all do… but once you have it kind of figured out its a tone machine. the included foot switch is a pleasant surprise also. It's programmable and works like a charm with just a normal guitar cable. I have also used the midi switching capabilities and they are also wonderful, though not as easy to use as the foot switch. If you are a gigging musician or just want a lot of options…..get one of these!Tony

I picked this up to use predominantly as a low wattage gigging head. I've since found myself using it for almost everything. PRS doesn't load a bunch of features into this amp. It is simply a guitar amp which is why it's as good as it is. This is a two channel footswitchable (included) amp. It has no effects or reverb. The clean channel is one of the best and most usable clean channels I have played on. It has its on eq and a treble boost. It would probably make a great pedal platform but I prefer to use it simply as a clean. The dirty channel can deliver anything you ask it to from classic 70's to modern metal. It has more gain available than anyone probably needs. If you know how to use the volume knob on your guitar you will find this amp to be very responsive. I keep the gain at about 10 o'clock and dual in what I need with the volume knob on my guitar. Both channels play extremely well with pedals. I've had the best results using the effects loop for time based and modulation type effects. Frequency and drive work great through the front end. I waited to review this until I got some rehearsals and gigs under its wings. This thing is built like a tank and travels quite well. For rehearsals I run it through a 4/12 with equipped with Celestion 70/80s. It's more than loud enough to get over a live drummer. It sounds louder than a 50 watt head I was using for rehearsals. Live I run it through a 2/12 and mic the cabinet with a 57. It sounds great and is very consistent. It's convenient size, durability, and overall sound have resulted in it becoming the first head I reach for in almost every situation now. This is a really great practical amp for any performing guitarist.Michael
Not a bedroom playing amp. Crazy loud! Huge gain! Sounds like a beast. More like 50 watts. At low levels it's sounds poor. But turned up it can't be played in a bedroom. Had the cops called twice on me and I live in a house with decent amount of space between the homes. Best metal amp out.Todd

The first thing was that this amp throws a lot of low-end. But it is not unusable in any way. It is just full. The only way to really experience this is by playing is I guess.The boost also worked amazingly. I do wish that is is footswitch-controlled because it throws a lot more gain.Then there is the lead channel. After experiencing the clean volume, I started with volume off and gradually brought it in. The highest I could get it without causing pain was 9:00. This amp is loud as hell! The lead sounded every bit as good as my Mesa Tremoverb and Road King , so I wasn’t missing anything in the gain department. Reverb would have been great, but I have pedals I guess.At the end of the day, this is the happiest I’ve ever been with an amplifier. I look forward to years of incredible sounds in a small package. The cleans on this amp are beautiful, which is crazy for just one volume and a presents knob. I like to use my UA Ox Box with this so I can crank the clean channel to 11 and get that pure tube distortion. Speaking of distortion, the dirt channel is where this baby really shines. Hard to explain, like a JCM 800 and a plexi had a baby, and that’s just first gear on this channel, hit the switch and WOW. You have to try this amp out. You will fall in love with it.
I accidentally ordered this amp instead of the 50 watt as originally intended. I discovered the mistake only after it shipped. I intended to exchange it for the 50 Watt at my local Guitar Center. A few days later it arrived at my doorstep and I decided what the heck, I would take it for a test drive. I'm absolutely blown away by this little 20 watt and have decided to keep it. I'm pushing a Friedman vintage 412 cabinet with ease. This small amp is portable, lightweight, extremely feature friendly and has a huge variety of tone. This 20 watt amp can push my 412 cabinet with adequate stage volume with ease. I use a combination of 412 cabinets along with another EVH 5150 amp via ABY switch and will often bounce between the 2 half stacks. I've had numerous Fender Marshall and other Boutique setups in my 45 years of playing but never a Friedman setup until now. The Friedman lineup seems to be popular for a reason. I'm absolutely blown away by this little Powerhouse amp. It's also at a very friendly price tag for what you get. Lots of tone in this little guy. Great way to get the 5150/6505 style on a budget. Amp tones are usable as is but, I really love hitting the front end with a BOSS SD1 as a boost. Adding 10 band eq into effects loop shapes the tone even more. Sounds great through Celestion V30 and GT75 2×12. 1/4 power switch helps for home volume levels, but I still use a reactive load attenuator.Dave
Dude !! This thing is extremely loud. I play through a 100 watt Marshall TSL100 and this 80 watt head blows it away as far as power goes..I couldn't get it past 4 without it hurting my ears seriously. I returned it because of that reason. It is a very large head too..pretty good sound though and easy to use. You want loud…get this head if not get the combo but you better have a good back !Mike

You will not sound like Eddie using this amp. it is very big and did I say LOUD !? at full power I couldn't get it past 4 playing through my Marshall with VIN30s – 4×12 cabinet. for the money a good LOUD amp a bit sterile sounding playing clean..It went back though so you can decide yourself…oh it has tons of GAIN too…TONS !! almost too much reallyMike

Bought this as an Open Box item in Mint Condition, and all though the boxes were torn and tattered, the Amp Head was in perfect shape. Not sure why someone had to return the head, but the foot pedal was crushed a little, so there may have been some damage at one point. Anyway, the Thrasher 120W is working just fine, and I'm very pleased with the sounds I'm getting with different pedal configurations. Someone said it was hard to dial in the sound they wanted, but it took me very little time to dial in some great tones. It is a versatile amp that can range from a rich clean tone, to an ear blowing distorted Monster. I've been playing a long time, and I'm kicking my self for never getting a Stack like this! My Fender Blues Deville 212 is going to be cold and lonely for a while, because I can dial in the tones I've always been looking for with this Thrasher and a few pedals.Hubie
As a guy that’s owned almost every high gain head and still owns a Fortin Cali, a KSR Gemini, Diezel Herbert MK3, a Monomyth Skeleton Key, a Omega Granophyre and a Ultra Lead it holds its own. Does it sound better than those? No I wouldn’t say that but it really isn’t a bad sounding amp and is real close to the satan in terms of tone. My biggest complaint would be it’s made in China and you can definitely tell the quality difference when it’s cracked open. Not a bad amp for the money thoughJason Quick
Overall: Bias your amp as soon as you get it otherwise the amp is underwhelming out of the box. Set the bias correctly even and the amp sounds the best. The stock ruby tubes are actually pretty good out of the box, I did swap the stock tubes for Tung-sols and it definitely gave alot more sound to the amp that i perfered. (You can mix and match the power tubes to different types than just the stock 6l6, i find the 6l6 the best for this amp, but el34 are good as well depending on what flavor you want)I use this amp primarily for studio use and it kills 5150 type of amps in versatility. You can get a plethora of different sounds. This amp does not need a overdrive but it can handle boosts and or overdrives very well. My favorite feature is the gain shaping options to really dial in the distortion character and the boost function is great for adding in a little more saturation focused on the higher mids.The clean channel is not over looked and delivers the goods.This amp isn't for everyone some perfer 5150 sounds, this gives you a hot rodded Marshall sounds met with Mesa type sounds and it's own 5150 type of sounds (but not exactly close but in the ballpark of 5150 style amps).After putting in the work with a tube swap and a bias, this amp is a monster and has plenty of gain necessary especially when it's biased even.This amp is assembled in China, but don't let that steer you away from it.. (Although my footswitch that came with the amp however came defective with a short in the cable where it meets the houseing and would not function without disconnecting the signal from the amp. I didn't want to return the whole amp after falling for its sounds compared to other amps i have had in my studio. I contacted zZounds customer service and they were able to reimburse me with a gift certificate to replace the defective footswitch, that's awesome customer service.)I will say this amp isn't made for everyone, especially if you perfer straight forward classic 5150 sounds (you may perfer the Randall Diavlo that costs less than this) If you want a Fortin Natas this amp is the closest you'll get to it with a little over 1/4th of the cost. I may contact Mike Fortin in the future in the interests of modding it personally to get it closer to the Natas in terms of transformers/chokes etc., till then this monster of an amp delivers the goods in terms of heavy music live or in the studio. Definitely made for someone who wants go have the options to tweak their sound and tone. I have yet to have a problem with the amp, my band mates are very impressed with quality of the sound when used at rehearsals compared to their 6505 and mesa rectifier they are used to hearing, and both my guitarists want one for themselves for live applications. With C19 I was looking for a good home tube amp and the Revv D20 way exceeded my expectations. The sound is terrific. Works well with my hx effects + pedal board. Attenuates onboard from 20w to 4w. Great sounding amp and the built in two notes cab sim is great. Great metal tones but you’ll need an overdrive pedal to really get the most out of it. Clean tones are gorgeous. MIDI is simple to use to change the channel and various other parameters too. What a fantastic amplifier this is. Worth every penny. The High and Low power settings both give different sounds and are equally usable. For more gain I use a Korg Nu:Tekt Over Drive pedal, they go very well together. I use beyerdynamic DT770 Pro headphones with the cab sim output every day! Have not stopped playing this amp since it arrived and I would say to anyone looking for an amplifier like this that if they are in a position to do so, then buy it without hesitation. My Shergold guitar and my Gordon Smith guitar go so well with this amp- both guitars have Humbucker pick ups and definitely give me the kind of tone that I have been looking for since I first heard JoyDivision more than 40 years ago. The amp works well with my Gibson ES330 guitar too which has P90 pick ups and is sort of an upmarket Casino. If anyone knows the sounds of Bernard Sumner with both the Shergold Masquerader and the ES330 then this amp sounds a lot like his setup without the punishing volume of his Vox. I have also been able to get the Neil Young Cortez the Killer tone pretty convincingly too. No regret at all in buying this amplifier and if it breaks would buy another without hesitation. I should perhaps add that this is the first Valve Amp that I have ever bought after many years of building my own Valve Amps.David C.

Incredible value for money all tube head… Fantastic on stage as just quiet enough to crank the master past halfway and retain the full valve tone whilst being mic'd. Strangely bass heavy for a Laney… The VC30 and Lionheart I own have both been treble monsters, so I was really surprised to be dialling the bass off here and winding the treble right up. Fantastic sounding amplifier in both 1w and 15w modes. Spring reverb and boost are excellent additions and the tone from the speaker is outstanding. I upgraded from a HT-1R and am certainly not disappointed. My strat and tele sound awesome! We have 5 Marshall’s in our studio 800.900, 2000, silver jubilee, plexi. We also have a Vox and a orange TH. Our first Laney and it sounds fantastic….what a sleeper company…. The sound is all British but it really has great rich smooth harmonics… It compares to our Friedman but at a fraction of the price. Thank you, Nick at SxFlls Guitar Center! Having told me that he has heard nothing but good things about this amp, I ordered it on the spot. upon receiving, I noticed the quality of build. With a humbucker in the neck position Tele, I immediately dialed in a gorgeous lush attack.. Rolled back the volume, and amplifier responded with a delicious and spacious rhythm tone. Single coil bridge pickup kicked in a spank and yet round full on Tele attack. But the middle position, it was so full of bottom end beef and top end sparkle, thanks to the amps internally bridged channels. For a 20 watt amp, this thing has tons of headroom, and can fill any stage, anywhere. Thank you, Nick. Thank you Guitar Center, and thank you Paul Reed Smith. This a beast of an amp in a small(ish) frame and a great price point for what is delivered in quality and pure TONE.Brian

This is an incredible amp!!! I have never played a more versatile Head. Beautiful cleans and powerful gain tones. All the other reviews will give you more detail on the tones. I find that so subjective its hard to tell others what I like without you being me. The only thing to knock is there are some things you NEED to know about the amp that are not clearly laid out. Even the GC salesperson wasn't aware of it. When I first got the amp I compared it to the EVH 5150. I almost returned the VHT because I couldn't get enough headroom for clean tones. I called them and it was explained to me that if you want plenty of headroom you need to dime the master. Have the OD toggle in the back above the footswitch down. The Mid toggle is down and the other toggle in the front is on Jazz. After that I got ALL of the cleans I wanted. I then used a Tube screamer and didn't need to change things up for some nice tasting gain tones when I wanted them. The OD toggle in the back, The mid toggle in front, Jazz/Rock, drive dial, all to do with the pre amp. When wanting gain and distortion playing with them you can create all types of different tones. Get to know the amp and you will LOVE it. Oh, I returned the EVH in favor of this.Ham
Great amp. It takes a while to dial in. The clean channel can take pedals the overdrive not so much. Gets in the Dumble sound for jazz/fusion but also can nail a rock tone. Overdrive has a lot of oomph. Can get bell tones on the clean channel. It does take a while to dial in though and every guitar needs tweaked. I would recommend this amp. It is easily modified to suit the taste of your ears and sounds great as is.Rick
I got a hold of this amp from a dealer who picked it up at the NAMM Show and overall I am pretty thrilled with it. It's incredibly versatile, has that creamy gain with tons of sustain when cranked and has the mid punch that this type of amp is famous for. The clean sound is very nice and will sit in a mix really well but isn't that bottomless fender clean crazy round sound you can get. It's close but not quite meant to do that, it's designed to shine where a guitar does the work, in the mids. The boost channel has a very nice sustained sound for leads and also has a phenomenal crunch. You can dial in some very SRV and Gilmour like tones with this amp. The 3 way bright switch, rock and jazz and mid are very effective and do give you a great tone shaping palette. The only cons so far are a lack of built in reverb and the preamp controls are tied to the clean volume as well so if you want a totally clean sound and super high gain setting the clean channel will be loud. For moderate gain and super clean sounds its very easy to balance the volume. Tons of versatility and an extremely gigable amp right out of the box. The pre-amp boost button makes it feel like you have an extra channel as doing this drives the volume and gain up a bit to the ear. We'll see it holds up, but a point to point amp with components on eyelet boards at this price point is pretty incredible. There may be a better D style amp out there but you can always mod to taste with this layout so it's an incredible platform that starts off in a really good place. I would love to a – b it with a Ceriatone or an actual overdrive special. Also I goat a vht cabinet with the chromeback speaker, I changed it out to a mesa boogie black shadow immediately, the stock chromeback speaker was very treble heavy and piercing. I have a few other cabinets and liked playing this amp through my 1×12 with a cannibus rex the most. The build quality of the cabinet is excellent though.JMatch
