1. Toneshaper Guitar Wiring Kit For Fender Stratocaster Sss1 (Blender Wiring)

Teles allow players to select the neck and bridge pickups together, but stratocasters dont. many players over the years have added switches to stratocasters to allow this combination, and the switch is usually a push/pull pot or a mini-toggle. heres a better idea. but since this control is a variable resistor, rather than merely switch a pickup on or off, it allows the player to blend a pickup into or out of the mix, like a volume control would do. in the full-clockwise position the blender control does absolutely nothing, and in fact makes itself disappear from the circuit so as not to load the circuit (think true bypass). in this position, the 5-way switch functions like a normal strat, with one volume and one tone control. turning the control counter-clockwise in positions 1 and 2 blends in the neck pickup, while turning it in positions 4 and 5 blends in the bridge pickup. the player can get lots of subtle tonal coloration with this control. short-bushing pots, for mounting on a pickguard.

Better than any locking tuner, you just have to measure the string to the second peg above the one you're using, cut it and put it in. When you get to the unwound ones, clip a little shorter (can't tell you how to measure, I figured it out by trial and error. I would estimate 3 wraps by sort of wrapping it loosely, then cut). Perfect match to the vintage F tuners made on the great strats of yore, you can age them to match by fuming the finish with muriatic acid. Place the tuners on an upside down bowl in a piece of tuperware with an inch or so of acid. Seal the lid. Place in a bath of hot water, and the acid will heat and evaporate. After 10 – 15 minutes check the level of chrome removal. You can always do more, but you can't easy put chrome back on. Rinse with cold water when you're done. RAWK ON!!!!ki_jaybones
I love these tuners. They look cool, they hold tune well. I would not upgrade to these for any guitar that doesn't already have them. Use these for repair/replacement only if you have a guitar that comes with these machines (Eric Clapton, 50s reissue strats). American standards, deluxe and mexican strats all use a different mounting method and have a different peg hole size which is why they provide you with those bushings. If you use these to replace the stock Ping tuners you must be able to drill and tap the machine screw mounting holes. The bushings do not set tight in the existing tuning machine peg hole. I used a drop of super glue to hold the bushings in place to the head. I did use these to make a black MN MIM strat look more like Eric's blackie, so it is not impossible to use them, just know you will have to drill new screw holes and tap them for mounting. Be very careful to not drill all the way through the head and with brass mounting screws. There are no extra screws. It is very easy to bur the brass phillip screw heads beyond use. After your holes are drilled use a pick guard screw to thread hole, then use the provided mounting screw for the tuning machine. I drilled and tapped holes to install one machine at a time to more easily manage alignment of machines from one to the other. After I was done it looked factory issue and worked the same. I put a drop of oil between the peg and bushing before stringing to ease peg binding against the bushing.
I build custom Strat/Tele's so this may not apply to all but…. Like others said this peg uses press-fit front bushing style similar to low cost Squire Strat. For standard diecast pegs I drill 10 mm diameter holes on peg head. I use aftermarket necks with 8 mm diameter hole (I remember it is same as low cost Squire). What I do on 8 mm holes for this peg is I drill 4 mm deep 23/64 (9.1 mm??) diameter counterbore holes to accommodate the bushings. I strongly recommend using drill press not hand drill for this. Also for a better support of peg shaft, I made Teflon sleeves to fill the peghead holes of 8 – 10 mm with silicone grease. One minor issue I have is peghead of some aftermarket Tele neck is a little undersized so I need to file the end peg (High E) a bit to fit.Basement Blues

This replaced a TBX pot in my late 80's American Standard Telecaster. I have to admit, I never knew what the TBX was doing, but decided I wanted a simpler wiring arrangement for the 4-way switch I put in. I'm not missing the TBX at all. This has nice smooth operation, and a solid feel at the 10 position where the tone control is bypassed. That gives a bright, Tele twang from the bridge pickup, which may be a bit too twangy for some. My favorite is the neck pup with the tone bypassed, which gives a warm tone, perfect for slow blues solos. At low settings (below about 4 or 5) the neck gets muddy, but this setting certainly tames the bridge brightness. Bear in mind, I don't have a direct before and after comparison with the same pickups. One rainy day I may experiment with another TBX, just to do the back to back comparison, but overall I very happy with the swap.Mike
I tried other brands but trust the Fender Potentiometers to fit right and work. The enclosed cap works fine and have no hesitation in using it but tried and liked an upgrade to Orange Drop as I felt my tone did improve a little. I keep any other capacitor values same as the original Fender as I want to maintain original Fender tone. I have never had an issue and will use these as long as I own Strats or similar guitars needing 250K and shafts that fit the mounting locations. This wiring is called modern because fender began using it in the 1980s as opposed to the 1950s. the original strat had a master volume control a tone control for the neck pickup and a tone control for the middle pickup. there was no tone control for the bridge pickup since it was assumed that a player would preset his two rhythm settings (neck and middle pickups) but the lead setting (bridge pickup) didnt need to be adjustable but would be wide open for maximum treble. remember that during those early years fender never supported a 5-way switch. in later years fender made some changes to the wiring to meet player demands. these included attaching the bridge pickup to the bottom tone control a no-brainer for many players who felt that if any pickup should allow for some treble roll-off it was the bridge pickup. the capacitor value on the tone control was changed to .022f which means that the tone controls provided less extreme tonal shifts than when a heavier cap was used (the earliest strats came with a .1f cap which produced a very substantial tonal shift as the tone controls were adjusted; this value was changed to .047f in the early 1960s).

The bridge has a solid feeling heavy block and nice looking bent steel traditional saddles. Be aware that bent steel saddles do have the potential to develop a buzz from time to time, particularly on the high string. Smoothing the top of the saddle with some very fine wet and dry will usually fix this. The only negative thing I can say about them is that the black and gold models do not come with their corresponding mounting plates. If you get anything other than chrome the included mounting plates will work but they look like garbage. These tuners work better than any locking tuner I've tried. They're easy to install. However, an install on a 2018 Gibson Les Paul BFG Humbucker required a drill to bore out the peg holes to 10mm, no problem. The junk Gibson tuner bushings had to be heated to be removed, no problem. The Gibson tuners *never* kept the guitar in tune, ever. The Graph Tech black tulips worked immediately, done. And, they look sharp too! Thank you! I contacted tech support to get the black plates, no problem. I need new string blocks for my JTV89f on the same phone call, no problem. Graph Tech is a group of guitar players who got the locking tuners right with the Ratios, and get this; the tuners noticeably improved on the clarity, sustain, and resonance over the Gibson tuners. I'm getting a set for each of my guitars. My SG 24 is getting the chrome tulips next! Then, the acoustics. I'd like to see Graph Tech develop a locking tuner system for classical guitars!RCB-CA-USA
Overall: These feel great when turning the buttons. The high E doesn't take ages to get to pitch, the G and low E are actually tune-able, no more slight finger and thumb pressure to coax it sharp to hope gear backlash brings it back down flat and into tune.The low E and G also stay in tune now, only deviating a few cents when using the bar heavily (with Tusq nut). The locking mechanism takes more turns than Sperzels to unlock. This threw me off. I find it to be a good thing. Sperzel's mechanisms always almost came off when unlocking the posts. Now that I have learned the throw of the screw I can quickly finger spin it out making stringing up faster and less cumbersome.The buttons are secured very well, much like Schallers, meaning they do not move. Grover, Sperzel and other cheap brands have buttons that always need retightening and make tuning annoying.The included adapters are unpolished aluminum, but functional. I chose to drill new holes. The included washers have a cupped design that lets you use them on modern or upside down in larger vintage instrument holes, it centers the tuning shaft.The only disappointments are cosmetic: the dot on each tuning peg, which you can see prominently in the pictures makes them seem like cheap tuners. These appear die cast and the edges are rough and very noticeable with gold plating, again making them appear cheap.Great overall. I want to buy these for all of my guitars now. Bought these for a Dave Murray tribute I built. They are literally the only tuners I use unless it has a Floyd. Tuning down or up? No problem, it's the same amount of turns for each tuner. Overall: I bought a set of these locking tuners to upgrade a cheap strat copy guitar that I own that had low cost non-precision tuners. The difference between the old tuners and these new Graph Tech tuners is like night and day! Now, not only is it easy to tune each string quickly and precisely, but my guitar's tuning stays rock solid with each string locked in place with no string wind to stretch out. They were easy to install by the instructions and the included InvisoMatch mounting plates. I'm a 'stickler' for being in, and Staying in tune when playing my guitar and have been since I first started playing in bands way back in 1974. The first thing that I normally do is replace the machine heads on any new guitar that I buy. Over the years I've replaced stock 'tuners' on dozens of guitars, including Les Pauls, Stratocasters, Teles, Ibanezes, etc… When I got my new Fender American Professional Strat last year, it was no different, the stock tuners were 'ok', but not quite up to my satisfaction. This product is of Eddie van halen. It's very popular among guitar players since it's eddie who invented it. I put it on my Sterling AX3 music man axis copy and I have to say it works perfectly. I get drop d tuning by pulling the thing out of the bridge and it goes right back to E when you push it back in. So it's really convenient for switching from drop d playing to regular E tuning. I think it also makes the guitar sound much better since the bridge I put in it is a cheap Floyd rose imitation. The guitar sounds much better now. I have a guitar that is almost 25 years old that my grandmother got me brand new. She passed away and it has a lot of sentimental value. I have other guitars but it means a lot to keep this one going. It is not worth the money to bring to a professional so I do all the work myself. Recently had to put all new pots, switch, capacitor, and put new seymour duncans as well. Works perfectly!Ant
Shame.The site designer forces you to put one star before you can comment.I actually give NO stars to the entire transaction-but have learned a lesson. I waited for months,literally- for this switch to come back into stock on the GC Fender parts rack.I should have written down the lame excuses I got from sales people.I decided to order it myself, but GC customer service said I have to pay shipping,even though it should have been sent to the store,along with other stocking merchandise. Sad fact is,this is NOT the switch inside a Fender Squire affinity Tele.You will have to figure out the wiring yourself- and it is possible when you get that figured out,it is too big for the routing. Epic fail. Lesson learned.Now,to get my cash back. And warning….The site will not submit your comments on Firefox.The button to do so is misconfigured I moved over to Chrome to do this.Larry

I recently went to my local GC and bought pickups, pots, knobs, and an output jack for my 1981 SG Firebrand. While I was taking the strings off, I realized I should have bought tuners, too. These are the exact same tuners I had on the guitar, so I didn't have to do any drilling. They were a snap to install and since they're not 29 years old (have I really been playing guitar that long?) they look FANTASTIC. Best of all, like one of the other reviewers said, they hold their tune as well as more expensive machine heads. If you have a Gibson with Grovers (that's what these are) and you need to replace them, forgo the pricey models and keep your guitar "stock" with these.
Grover tuners have rocked for years, and this set is no different. The fact I did not need a drill, or a trip to repair shop, plus the rock solid performance of the Grover design makes this the ideal choice for anyone looking to upgrade. I would not choose anything else. I must also mention these things look killer on the guitar. These tuning machines are direct replacements for the Gibson deluxe plastic tulip style machines. These tuners bolt right up using the existing bottom hole for the deluxe tuners so no drilling is required. The top hole is nearly covered up but still visible, However the improvement in tuning is well worth it. The washers, threaded inserts, and mounting screws are all identical to the deluxe, this set defines "direct replacement". This set is made by Grover for Gibson, They are stamped Grover on the tuner. The tension is adjustable and they are absolutely rock solid. Same tuner as the original Grovers with the "kidney style" button, but with metal "tulip deluxe style" buttons. Fantastic price, and easy for anyone to install. No trip to the repair shop needed.

Without a doubt the best machine heads I've ever used. Easy to install, incredibly accurate tuning. The only negative thing I can say about them is that the black and gold models do not come with their corresponding mounting plates. If you get anything other than chrome the included mounting plates will work but they look like garbage. If you buy gold or black just know you're going to have to spend an extra few bucks to complete the installation properly.Dahrothgar

These tuners work better than any locking tuner I've tried. They're easy to install. However, an install on a 2018 Gibson Les Paul BFG Humbucker required a drill to bore out the peg holes to 10mm, no problem. The junk Gibson tuner bushings had to be heated to be removed, no problem. The Gibson tuners *never* kept the guitar in tune, ever. The Graph Tech black tulips worked immediately, done. And, they look sharp too! Thank you! I contacted tech support to get the black plates, no problem. I need new string blocks for my JTV89f on the same phone call, no problem. Graph Tech is a group of guitar players who got the locking tuners right with the Ratios, and get this; the tuners noticeably improved on the clarity, sustain, and resonance over the Gibson tuners. I'm getting a set for each of my guitars. My SG 24 is getting the chrome tulips next! Then, the acoustics. I'd like to see Graph Tech develop a locking tuner system for classical guitars!RCB-CA-USA

By far the best upgrade you can do to your SG for the money. The tone and clarity are dramatically improved and eliminate a lot of the muffled characteristics of the original pods and capacitors. Very easy to install, even with limited soldering experience. I later added a Dimarzio DP100 to the bridge and it completely transformed the guitar; I don't think the full benefits of adding a replacement humbucker or pickup would be possible without the Emerson kit. I would definitely, highly recommend this product to anyone!theguybuyingstuff
