I love this pedal. The option to have one octave up and two down allong with the sry signal is great and creates a full sound. The tone is great, both the poly and classic modes, but the toneprint option is the real winner. Creating sounds and importing pre-created ones is a great way to dial in exactly what you want to sound like.
This pedal takes your playing to new lows! You can play with the settings and achieve amazing effects, the knobs are offering; 1 octave lower, 2 octaves lower, 1 octave higher, and so you blend it at your own taste. But the best part is probably the TonePrint, it is an App that you get for free in your computer then you have access to a wide variety of settings, effects and you can save them to your pedal, this is an amazing feature from TC electronic. I've been looking for something to make my guitar sound like a bass for years. There have been several octave shifters, but mostly monophonic and producing ghastly warbling sounds. This subnup pedal produces a good sounding bass using just the sub1 control, and adding the toneprint smooth bass patch turns it into a really nice punchy bass that reflects the tone of the string you are playing so you can get anything from a bright twang to a deep boom just using your fingers and there is no noticeable delay in the conversion, you play a note and it sounds immediately – older pedals used to have up to a half second gap between playing and hearing the note. This pedal does heaps more than that, several YouTube videos show it off, but I didn't see any that showed it being used to replace a bass when you just need it for a few songs and don't want to bring two guitars with you. I haven't had a chance to play with the tone editor yet, but that promises even more variation. Great pedal at a good price.Robin D.

First off, I am not a pedal person, mainly have played acoustic guitar in bluegrass bands. I will do duty on the electric bass and being I had heard Octave pedals were one tool to use to approximate acoustic bass sounds, I hoped to try this out on the cheap. One glance will tell you the pedal is not durable but it does go one and two octaves lower and the mix from source to effects works great. I can't really tell it makes the bass sound more acoustic but it could easily use a standard electric guitar as a bass if that could be called for sometime during the set. I won't be buying a better quality octave pedal but this has been really fun playing with. The hardest part for me was getting the 9v battery in, had to go to YouTube to see how Behringer pedals are done. What can I say?! This is my 5th purchase from JUNORECORDS , bought it on Tuesday got it Wednesday. Now for the product. It's like all Behringer Pedals , Light and plastic but by no means does that effect whats inside. Ultra Octaver has a fantastic sound , pitch perfect with the option of having the original signal on or off and anywhere in between..You can also change between which tonal area you'd like to effect with Hi , Mid and Low settings switch. Oct 1 increases the amount of signal of the altered sound one octave below and Oct 2 below that. This all gives you a bass accompaniment at you feet!! This is a follow up to a previous review I made back in October. I have used this product on several in-state and out-of-state band gigs, carried it in a case on an airplane, and shipped it back to Texas. It worked flawlessly, and continues to work flawlessly. My buddy, who is the lead guitarist, was very impressed with the tone and volume this pedal achieves, for not a lot of $$. First of all, I already own other Boss pedals and I can say that it is a quality brand. The pedal in question, not cheap but in an average price range, does just what it needs to do! The sound is clear, well finished on all frequencies, the dynamics improve and the overall level of the guitar sound is also raised and leveled. There is a fairly long sustain of the sound. I usually play clean or near-clean through a Fender-ish Carvin SX-100 Combo. Until today, no matter what I did, my thin hollowbody Ibanez AFS-75 always had just a little "crud" in the tone. After reading another review talking about how they used the CS-3, I experimented around and here's what I've done. I've put the CS-3 between the guitar and the amp and run the rest of the effects including EQ through the effects loop setting the CS-3 (from Left to Right) at 1, 1, 10, 11. At these settings, my Flat Wounds have a new sparkle and equal level from string to string. There is no distortion pedal in my effects setup although I do dirty up the signal just a tiny bit using the Carvin Amp Distortion to add just a bit of life to my playing. I'm a Jazz Student (emphasis on student) seeking that organic jazz guitar sound and the CS-3 has improved the tonality and removed the crud. It's actually pretty startling.Ed
I'll directly get down to the Pros & Cons: Pros: *Good sustain *Rich & clear tone *Produce a kind of slapping & sharp tone once you increase the attack knob. *It suppresses the sound of hard strumming & boost the sound of soft strumming & produces a well balanced sound. Cons: *Creates noise, I'm not sure either my order of placing the pedal is not right or is it due to power supply kind of problem which Daisy chain that I was using earlier. But now I've shifted to voodoo lab power supply & I've started using Noise suppressor. So. overall it's a good pedal, but it creates a lot of unwanted noise too & that's the only drawback this has. I think Boss should take this into consideration. Initially intended to buy an Xotic EP Booster because I wanted to try the Echoplex thing out, but saw this little guy and figured…why not? I like it so much, I don't see the point in ordering the EP Booster anymore! Hits the front end of my Soldano in a way no overdrive has yet, and with no noise. Works equally well in front of my OCD pedal for a lead boost. And to all the people whining about the switch not clicking…whatever. I like that about the TC stuff and wish all pedal companies would make their switches "clickless". Great value, just buy it already! Thanks TC and Sweetwater!
This pedal does exactly what it claims and does it better than other pedals of the same purpose. It is constructed extremely well. For around $50 this pedal's physical casing and switch assembly is made better than pedals I own costing hundreds of dollars more. I don't foresee this pedal ever needing replacement or repair. I'm not particularly fond of the "momentary volume boost" feature but that doesn't change my overall opinion. It's a great item.ethan1957

If you can't justify a full-time keyboard player or just plain don't want one but need a keyboard every once in a while this is the box for you. I've been looking for an organ "emulator" for several years but until the C9 (the B9 didn't have what I was looking for) came around about the only thing available was a very expensive synthesizer system that attaches directly to an electric guitar. Even with the expense it would've meant, in addition to my acoustic guitars and an ukulele, I'd have more gear to cart around. Then I found the C9 and an "I need money" deal on eBay and took it. I use the C9 for a couple of Marley songs my band performs and can foresee a lot more fun in the future. I've tried the C9 on electric and acoustic guitars and a solid body electric ukulele and it works great with all of them. The ability to run a dry guitar output directly to an amp or PA or through an effects loop makes for some interesting options while pulling your organ sounds at the same time.gbeckwith

I needed a pedal to help me get my volume right at shows….Using the gtr volume control and or a volume pedal in front of my pedal board just changes the drive into the FX. I get everything nicely balanced in the studio or at home, and then each venue has odd sound characteristics and sometimes I am too loud in my rhythm and too soft in my leads & no time to get everything adjusted just right. So I wanted a simple master volume pedal after all the FX and before the amp…(did not want to hassle with more cables needed for the FX loop). I have tried them all…none worked well for me….Well, here is what I learned: This pedal has a min volume control which allows more accurate setting of the pedal to the volume I need mid-song. This control was key, allowed me to zero in on the volume easily as small changes in the pedal position did not produce huge changes in volume. The pedal does not cut the quality, at least not in noisy bars and restaurants. So it's very good. But the real point is after years of not doing the volume thing well with my right foot I discovered that I was much better at the task using my left foot…and I am right handed!! This has changed everything. Turns out, the issue was my right leg is way sturdier to stand on and control the volume with my left foot. If you have a problem with this type of thing, just try your other foot. The pedal and this simple foot change basically solved the issue. I am not perfect, but way better than before and I get better with each gig!!BC 123
Our keyboard player also plays steel guitar. We built a stand that integrates with the keyboard, so she can switch between keyboard and steel very quickly. We now own two of these volume controls. The first one is mounted to the effects pedal attached to our keyboard. The other is a spare. We use channel 1 for keyboard volume control and channel 2 for steel guitar volume control. It saves us from cluttering our board with two pedals. I wish we could run stereo keyboard, but we forgo that for practicality. We like the overall feel of the FV-500L Stereo Volume Pedal. I’ve been playing a long time and I used to own the Roland Phase II, ‘70’s analogue pedal which, for me was the ultimate phase sound until I foolishly sold it when I took a break in the early 80’s!!. This pedal is very versatile but not quite as good sounding as the Red Witch moon phaser pedal I’d been using until it died very recently. Hopefully though it will turn out to be much more reliable than the Red Witch!! I’ve found the tone prints interesting to experiment with and I’m now using one of the prints beamed to the pedal as the main phaser sound at present..All in all a good pedal for the price I’d say…Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
This is my 2nd TC Electronics pedal. They work great. There is plenty of competition out there and these days most gear is actually quite good compared to what was available in the 70's. Some people swear off any digital FX but I am quite satisfied, Years ago I had a MXR Phase 90 and felt it was a one trick pony. With this you get a lot more flexibility and you really don't give anything up. Is it as good as let's say an Empress Phaser, I cant say for certain, My Empress Chorus is great so the Empress Phaser is probably just as good if not better but honestly, they are not in the same ball park in price or features but this does get high marks as an overachiever in the regular pedals segment by using the tone print app. The Tone Print app lets you "beam" presets to the pedal through your smart phone, dozens of sounds tailored by professional musicians are available to you on demand. There are settings for guitar and bass. In short this is a really great option for a flexible digital Phaser in the standard pedal price segment. It meets my needs and does not break the bank. Bought this mainly for re-creating the original 1970's stereo Mutron Bi-Phase sound for use with my Korg Kronos using a Fender Rhodes voicing. Comes pretty close using the stock Mutron tone print, without the original analog background noise, of course. I'm in process of tweeking the tone print to get closer. All in all, a good deal, given that a good used stereo Mutron now goes for $1500. Should have kept mine. I find that the Helix and the Hall of Fame Reverb are studio quality effects in a pedal format. I regularly run the Hall of Fame in my analog mixer's effects loop. I've read other reviews and I understand why a lot of people gave this pedal a poor one. If a pedal says it can do 3 things, it should. Unfortunately, that's not the case. However… it does do ONE thing really, really well. If you're looking for a Chorus effect, the "detune" setting is better than any other Chorus I've tried. I even put it up against the Boss PS-6 and the Mooer sounded better. The Boss sounds very digital and thin. The Mooer sounds analog, rich and fat. I can hear a lot more definition on each string. I'm SUPER picky about sound so this pedal really shocked me for the "detune" setting. I agree the other settings are total garbage so I don't use it for anything else.Kova
I've had the Pitchbox for a few months now and really like it. My review is actually a 4.5 star review, but since you can't do that, I had to put 4. The only thing that takes off the half is the cons I listed above, but they're all minor/reasonable. It does have a little learning curve so you can see what each interval sounds like and how to get the sounds you want. It does glitch every so often, but that happens to any octave effect. I'm still awaiting a perfectly polyphonic octave effect, but I digress. And lastly, EXP capabilities would truly make this a 5 star pedal, but I know that it's a ridiculous request for this type of pedal. This is a SMALL pedal. And that's what I love about it. Not a horrible product IMO. The detune gives a nice chorus effect. I thought the pitch shift was great for dropping or raising your tuning with ease. If those two things were all I wanted it for, I would've kept it. However, I bought mainly it for the Harmony function. Not so great there. Most of the time you feel like there is another guitarist with you that just can't keep his guitar in tune…very annoying. I wanted the Boston, Thin Lizzy, Saxon harmony sound. This pedal won't quite do that like I thought it would, so I decided to return this and go with an intelligent harmony instead by ordering a Boss PS-6. Should've just done that in the first place.MC

Overall: First off, THIS ISN'T A PEDAL FOR EVERYBODY. The Blue Box is an ancient design – from around 1974. It's glitchy and works best on the A, D & G strings in the upper registers (above the 10th fret or so). And it isn't polyphonic – single notes only.Now, having said that, the sound it produces is truly unique to this pedal. Thick and wooly! I had the Boss OC-3 Super Octave and HATED IT. (It's best function is as a paperweight.) The biggest complaint I have with this pedal is that it isn't very loud, the volume drop when you engage the pedal is quite hard to miss. I solved that problem by running the pedal into an MXR Classic Overdrive. If you want to blow up a small guitar amp, this may be your ticket. I find it's best to palm mute the strings. Any extraneous noises interfere with the signal processing. I would indeed recommend this to a friend but with warnings. It may not work too well in a live setting but it's a great studio toy. Jimmy Page's solo in 'Fool In The Rain' is probably the best known use of this pedal but Wings guitarist Jimmy McCullough put one to good use on 'Wino Junko' from the 'At the Speed of Sound' album.Mark
If you're interested in a fuzz pedal with a lot of range, you should look somewhere else. If you want a pedal that makes fat sounding low-end buzzing noises, than this is the pedal for you. With the blend knob at 0 it has a very bland gentle fuzz that isn't very interesting on it's own. I can definitely say, if you're interested in this for a normal fuzz pedal, don't get it. The blend knob at half will get you a mixture of the normal fuzz with a mixture of the pedal's signature -1 octave buzz. I find having both octaves audible to be a bit distracting because the low end is very unwieldy and usually just sounds like mush underneath the conventional normal fuzz. With the blend knob at full you get the pedal in all it's glory, an 8-bit Nintendo deep bass buzz. Anything you play lower than the 12th fret on this setting will sound like static. Above 12, you can get some fantastic deep sounds that will really raise eyebrows among people who never thought a guitar could achieve those type of sounds. On it's own the volume and fuzz is pretty low, and I would recommend putting it though either an overdrive pedal or a distortion pedal to really make it pop. Don't get me wrong, it's a great pedal to have in your arsenal. It's essentially a bass pedal (something almost akin to the bass-line of Nirvana's "Breed"). It's limitations however make it a one song pedal (hence Jimmy Page's usage of it for one song and then throwing it aside). 70 isn't a whole lot to ask for a great song though. I don't regret buying it, but I'm not exactly overjoyed with it either. I usually bust it out to friends and they get a chuckle when I play the Super Mario Bros. "Underworld" theme. If you're tight on money, you're much better off looking at other fuzz pedals that for 10 extra will get you 10 times as many sounds. If you've got the scratch, I would recommend seeking out the DOD "Buzz Box". It was a custom pedal that DOD made for Buzz from The Melvins that basically takes the Blue Box and mixes it with a nasty distortion. They don't make it anymore and it's expensive, but it's a forgotten classic that blows this pedal away.

What can I say?! This is my 5th purchase from JUNORECORDS , bought it on Tuesday got it Wednesday. Now for the product. It's like all Behringer Pedals , Light and plastic but by no means does that effect whats inside. Ultra Octaver has a fantastic sound , pitch perfect with the option of having the original signal on or off and anywhere in between..You can also change between which tonal area you'd like to effect with Hi , Mid and Low settings switch. Oct 1 increases the amount of signal of the altered sound one octave below and Oct 2 below that. This all gives you a bass accompaniment at you feet!! I wanted a bass guitar, but this is way cheaper. If youve already got a looper pedal, just stomp on this bad boy with your neck pickup, roll down the tone and youve got a fat bass sound for a fraction of the price. If youre looking for anything more than that, fair warning this pedal warbles a little depending on the guitar frequency. I have been playing guitar 35 years or so. I've had the Boss Chorus Ensemble, Rotosphere, other imitations, and finally a full size vintage Leslie. The new Leslie pedal is the best next to the real cab. The overdrive is not as good as the Rotosphere, unless you run a drive/boost in front of it. The unit is stereo but the input requires an adapter if you want your signal to go to two amps when plugged in with mono 1/4 inch plug. If you don't do this you go back to mono (signal to only one amp) when you bypass the pedal. Hammond should have made it so you can have full spectrum over rotor speed. This can be achieved by plugging a expression or volume pedal into the jack for the remote organ switch. This will disengage the break, but you can really get better rotor speed control. Sound is 5 stars. Design is 4 stars.Jazzin
I bought this pedal for our live gigs. We play SRV, Gov't Mule, Warren Haynes etc. The first pedal that I received was extremely noisy. I called MF to ask about a replacement. Due to the short timeframe of the upcoming gig, I purchased a second pedal with intentions of returning the first one. The second pedal was just as noisy. I've configured the link several ways i.e., direct to the amp and through the effects loop, all of which didn't work on either pedal. Without the pedal connected, my rig, (Marshall JCM 800 stack, 74' Les Paul setup), is completely quiet. The pedal is quiet on bypass mode but when you engage the rotor effect, the humming noise is completely overbearing and very loud. It's a great idea for a pedal but they've got to work on the sound quality. The pedal is not functional the way it is.
Easy to set up and use, sturdy construction, minimal signal & tone loss. The pedal comes with a remote speed switch jack, however, an affordable switch is not listed or easy to obtain. (I play pedal steel, using an organ effect with the Leslie rotary effect, a remote hand operated speed control switch would be a plus as I am already very busy with foot pedals and knee levers).Half-Fast Steel Picker

How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad

I must to have pedal for rhythm guitar players. Very fat an saturated sound, perfect for riffs. I use with a vintage style Ibanez trough an clean tube amp channel, and it is amazing. The tubes are roaring with this pedal. I think it best suits for semi-hollow, vintage instruments with warm sound, cause combined with the Muff you will get a fat but enjoyable sound,. but with very a clean and bright instruments it will be more like harsh. The size is much more pleasant than the original Big Muff and its still massive. The tone on/off switch is a good feature, cause when you have your own EQ settings most of the time you dont want to mess it up with your pedals, but if you want, its still an option. Also, I recognized when its the tone off, you get more gain and headroom. The tone wicker give you more high-mids/presence. Useful when play muffed solos and you go higher in the fretboard.
Can't say much that hasn't been said already. What I can say after using this pedal for a year is that it is the best bigmuff out there. It's all about the tone wicker. To me it's like a vintage bigmuff switch. you flip it and holy dancing cows instant grit and velcro-like-texture fuzziness. you combo this with the right tube amp and Wallah! Siamese Dream tone. Cool thing is, costs much much less what you'd pay for a vintage (banged-unreliable-overpriced-oversized) V4-V5 bigmuff. Careful with the tonebypass, the thing is a 30db volume boost. good for saturated tubes I guess. in my opinion, it's as useless as it was 30 years ago in the V3 or V5 pedals. it does sement this version as a definitive throwback. both switches are there for a reason, EHX knew it, I know it and now you know it. (funny story: Musiciansfriend sensors the word MxUxFxF. cannot use it in the review or tags, yeah, it's a dirty woord to 'em. They did allow EHX to put it on the title though!)zaiten
very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren't the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus. the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can't really go wrong with the big muff pi. my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead.. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.phatjbp

Sound: I’m really happy with the sound pallet available on the SY-1. You can get Metheny style saw wave/string style leads, several organ sounds, Bladerunner basses etc. It’s got a lot of 80’s synth vibe to it. The sound editing is somewhat limited yes, but that’s exactly why I went back to the SY1 from the other synth pedals I tried. Sound for sound, I found the SY1 had the most usable sounds for my style. Pair it up with some chorus, delay, and long decay reverb and it is capable of sounding incredible. Features: By far the best feature to me is that everything you need to make/change sounds is on the top. No PC editor required. While it does limit the capabilities it’s also much easier for an old guy like me to get musical sounds out of it without breaking out a manual or re-learning everything I have forgotten about synths LFO’s and filters from the '80s. Ease of Use: Very easy to use. Plug it in, turn some knobs until you smile. Pair it with an expression pedal for even more fun things to do. Quality: It’s Boss. It’s built like a tank. If zombies rush the stage it could be used as a weapon. Clean it up, plug it back in, and keep playing. Value: When compared to similar offerings from Source Audio, Meris, EHX, I think the SY1 is a fair value. A bit less functionality but what you get instead is easy access to usable sounds for a few bucks less. Manufacturer Support: In the 40 years I’ve been using Boss I’ve only contacted them once. No issues. The Wow Factor: Synth pedals aren’t for everyone, sure. But for that occasional something different on a lead or just for tooling around over ambient soundscapes they can be a lot of fun. Overall: I would consider myself your garden variety guitar player. I play rhythm and lead in a rock cover band and do some ambient and prog stuff on my own and this fits right in with the rest of the gear on my pedalboard. I’ve tried a few other guitar synth pedals from Boss, Meris, and Source Audio and ended up going back to this one because it fits my style and needs the best. The tracking is very, very good. In my humble opinion it tracks better than the C4. I’m not Alex Hutchings but I can play moderately fast and it keeps up with no issues. Compared to other synth pedals this is much more straightforward but also much more limited in sounds. It’s very 80’s vs some of the more experimental sounds you can get out of the others, but that’s what I was looking for. If you are looking for bleeps and boops sounds or want deep editing, this pedal probably isn’t for you. If you are looking for a more traditional GR style sounding synth then this is definitely worth checking out.Allan
This is a very enjoyable pedal. Would I recommend it, and is it good value? That depends on your expectations. It benefits from being used in conjunction with other pedals as on there own some of the synth tones are very dry and digital. I feed an overdrive into it, and a light reverb after. Adding fuzz to the effects loop also adds to make the overall effect more massive. That being said, I have struggled to find tones that I can use with my (rock) band in a live setting, and I was hoping it would enhance/thicken up my sound. Build. It’s a Boss so it will probaat still be around when our sun has gone supernova. Sound. Nothing short of amazing when you consider you do not need to screw some kind of special pick-up on your guitar. And there are sounds galore, 11 types that have 11 subtypes each. That’s 121 in totaal! And all your favorites are there, Lead, Organ, Pad, you name it. Use. As straightforward as it could be. Choise your mail type, select a subtype, dial in tone and debt, adjust the mix with the original signal and you are good to go. Features. On the upside this pedal has it’s own effect loop, the sound of the unit can be manipulated with an external expression pedal, for driving the effect up an octave for instance and the front of the pedal (next to the powerinput) has a little switch where you can determine whether you are using the unit with a guitar or a bassguitar. Possible concerns are the facts that there is no MIDI compatibility, sound can’t be restored or recalled and, suprisingly enough, the unit is mono. Bang for the buck? For days! With these possabilities, features and sounds it is basicalky a steal, not to mention how little real estate this unit takes up on your pedalboard.

Great little device. Different to a looper. Great for creating background washes of tonal color on-the-fly. If you got adept at it, you could use it to great effect in live performance. Personally, I use it to practice scales and arpeggios. Very effective and easy to use. I don't know how different or similar the electronics are, but it would be great to see this device combined with a looper. They're similar in concept. It's a nice pedal it's like a sustain pedal for the piano but for the guitar. Really fun to use. Been using it on my gigs ever since I got it. Works great for ballads and intros. The only issue is the foot button makes a loud click. Seems that they would have put a silent one in over the loud clicking one. Also wondering why they couldn't have made it more like an actual pedal like a wah or volume pedal… I've never seen one for the guitar so I imagine it has something to do with capturing the sound. But electro-harmonix if you're reading there's an idea for you. I know a lot of guitarists that would love a pedal that you can work like a true sustain pedal.Marco

I was looking for a boost pedal to drive an old Gibson GA-25 with a Strat. The Archer sounds above and beyond. It has plenty of volume to drive the amp and setting the gain between 10 and 2 and rolling off the treble smooths out the crunch while still maintaining it character. Used it with a Plexi 100 and a Twin Reverb as well as a Rickenbacker, Tele, and Les Paul with the same result. The Archer sounds fantastic and each amp and guitar sounds like that amp or guitar. Worked the same on other pedals. Used it to drive an OCD and it the perfect bump without having to use an amp with complicated switching. No noise from the pedal while toggling on or off. Treble knob is super useful to smooth out or add clarity. It was really easy to dial it in and there's a pretty wide sweet spot. It's super responsive to picking and fingering. I kinda want to buy another to have an Archer drive an Archer. Would that be weird?Nickname
The pedal is small and therefore pedalboard-friendly but is still built like a tank. The knobs and switch feel totally quality stuff, the chassis is rock-solid and good looking. This pedal can be used, just like a Klon Centaur, as a clean boost up to a mild unique sounding overdrive. It gives you plenty of volume and headroom (you generally have to keep the volume knob close to zero if you want to match the bypass volume) and the Gain control is very accurate and allows you to shape your tone just as you desire. It is a great blues or rock pedal and gives its best if put on top of a tube amp that's almost breaking up but you can still use it, as a regular drive pedal, in front of a clean amp and it's guaranteed to sound better than most of the amplifiers' internal gain stages. Not a cheap pedal, in line with its main competitors, but definitely worth the price. If you want a Klon-like quality pedal that really gives you the Klon feeling without destroying your wallet, the Archer is a perfect choice.reptile_breath
I used heavy fuzzes for many years, I decided a few years ago to switch to something different. Been switching between the germanium ocd and the Xotic BB preamp last few years. The Archer does what I was looking for. Sounds great with my guitar volume slightly turned down. I've never used one of those real klons. But I now can understand why everyone likes em. I tried both configurations (in front of preamp/amp head and into FX loop return), and it really only worked well for me into the FX loop return bypassing the Amp head preamp, which is the way it was probably intended to be used. It sounds great for everything from Tool to Metallica and even got some pretty killer Sludge/Stoner sounds out of it with an OD in front (which is what I was buying it for hence the 5 stars). Dialing back the gain was able to produce some nice dirty blues sounds. As far as modern extreme metal sounds, I couldn't quite dial in anything like say Fit for an Autopsy or Whitechapel. I think you need to stick to 5150's and 6505's for that sound. Otherwise it can really cover the gamut for hard rock, punk, metal. Great preamp overallCosky
This is the overdrive pedal you want for anything 90's and heavy to even more modern sounds. I imagine it would be capable of pulling off Djent as well. Very versatile for heavy sounds. The gain is fat and saturated. The VH4 channel 3 gain is very distinct and this pedal gets you very close to that soubd at a fraction of the price. I run mine straight into a 6watt tube amp, and it gives me all the distortion i need. It also has killer tone, and the eq knobs are very reaponsive. It's more like having an extra amp channel than a pedal. It's really incredibleEric
Although it took about an hour of concerned and initially disappointed fiddling with the various settings and 4 amps I had before I got it to sound the way I wanted (like Tool), once I got there, whoa! Yes, this pedal makes the single biggest difference to sound like Adam Jones from Tool than any other item in the chain. I already had Mesa Boogie and Marshall valve amps, lots of pedals, a Gibson Les Paul Custom Silverburst, drop D tuning, heavy strings, and had always wondered about getting the actual VH4 amp. When I found this VH4 pedal I was sceptical initially, read some reviews, then took the chance, was initially disappointed for the first hour, but then bingo! This really does get you in the right place, and once the sound was right I was playing away for hours getting more and more pleased at how good it sounded. I realise that Tool use multiple amps, can play far better than I can, everything is recorded immaculately, blah blah blah, but for someone who wants to get close to the sound in a home environment for personal pleasure and to see what other things I can improvise sound like with a similar Tool sound, this pedal is perfect. So I would thoroughly recommend it, but just be patient initially – for the first hour I was getting that sinking feeling that I had wasted my money on chasing the impossible, as I tried plugged into this amp then that. In the end my best sound was plugging the pedal straight into the power amp of the Sub Zero 60 amp using the VH4 power amp output. That sounded better than going into the front end of the Mesa Boogie Nomad 45 and Marshall SL5. It really does sound like Tool, given all the caveats. Habe das Pedal zu Hause probiert, gibt das Signal unverfälscht weiter. Habe einen Auftritt damit gespielt, und der Tontechniker konnte das Gitarrensignal problemlos und in guter Qualität verstärken. Gut ist, dass zwei Ausgänge vorhanden sind. Also neben XLR für PA/Monitor kann man noch einen Verstärker betreiben, wenn nötig. EQ ist eher dezent, reicht aber völlig aus, um das Signal deutlich zu färben.

Oops… Almost gave this a negative review: Watch out, the thing comes with headphones/console optimized output as factory default. So if you hook this up to an amp, first go to the System settings and change them. This makes a very big difference (from "what the.." to "wow!"). Also note that this is an analog type synth sound: Pat Metheney, John McLaughlin (80's Mahavishnu), etc. So, if you're looking for something like that, this is gold. If you're looking for real Steinway sampled sounds, etc. go for the ones with the MIDI pickup. You won't get Scott Henderson's flute-type sounds exactly (those are digital), but you will get sounds which are at least equally great (but analog). As far as John McLaughlin-type sounds, you'll be jamming all day long on this thing. The complement software (not required, but handy) works as advertised so far on a MacBook Air.Alex
I love the fullness that it adds to my sound. I love the ambience it adds to my acoustic guitar. I can not use all the samples it contains but Tone Central has bunches of usable configurations to download. A lot of the tonalities are special effects phrases that you can use to add to recordings. I run some of the calmer effects under my guitar to fatten up its tone. You know something is there but it is not overwhelming. I have had the earlier synth version pedals and they also contained the spatial sounds of a keyboard. Those are not necessarily useful for live performances. This pedal has more practical sounds to edit and gain controls of. The ambient sounds worked well for electric guitars too. Being old school I want my tone on top and not be smothered by effects. Used tastefully this pedal works live and in the studio.
Alert: As a highly experienced musician and highly experienced audio engineer, this box is deep and wide and I keep diving in! For the guitarist who wants to plug and play, this box has great sounds but you can spend less and edit less and play comfortably. The synth section is mind blowing and even conventional effects like limiters delays, reverbs, etc are rich! The SY-300 speaks to me in tongues! It's incredible. – The only thing that is missing is a stereo effects loop but it does everything else so well that it gets 5 Stars.bgl

The deco is many effects in one pedal. it has a wonderful sounding overdrive, achieved by pushing the saturation. you can also do echo, flange, chorus and modulated echo sounds. on the tape saturation side, you can add a little bit of very natural sounding push from your guitar, or turn up the saturation for warm overdrive. on the doubletracker side is where you can dial in various effects. you can get a classic country slapback echo or a wobbly, washy, '80s-inspired echo. each knob has a secondary function, adding high trim, low trim, doubletracker boost/cut, auto-flange time, and wide stereo mode controls. the pedal features a single 1/4" input and a pair of 1/4" outputs for stereo operation. there is also a separate input for either an expression pedal, a tap switch, or a favorite switch to save and recall presets.
