When S.I.T. (Stay In Tune) strings first came out years ago, they came shipped straight, not coiled up. That was their thing. I tried some 9's back when I used 9's and they were better than D'Addarios which always broke. They are the best strings I feel I've ever played. I'm a Dunlop convert now, don't change the recipe because you've got a good thing going here! I use the 10's. The tightly wound string offers great tones, awesome bends and smooth transition. I was given these as a "shut me up" gift from Musician's Friend for an issue I had and it's one of the best gifts they could have given me. I put them on my Strat, I will be putting them on my Les Paul and other Strat AND my semi hollow body blues machine. I love these strings. I've tried the Elixir's, DR, D'addario, Ernie Ball, Gibson and Fender strings. The Dunlops are going on every guitar I own and I'm going to be setting up my Taylor acoustic and Epiphone Acoustic-Electric with a set of their acoustic strings to see how they stack up to my Cleartone favorites so I'll respond to that later. These strings are so great I'm telling the bass player in my band about them. He tried them out and was amazed at the quality and feel of them. Check the price versus the competition and you'll realize for the quality and price there is no competition.
I bought these on a whim one day. I can't explain just how great these strings really are. They have a unique voicing that really compliments my guitar's natural tone. I have used many, MANY brands of strings, as well as many gauges, but these strings are by far my favorites to date. For being relatively new to the string-making game, Dunlop nailed it with these. Fantastic tone, strong, long-lasting, and overall great feel. I switched to these after spending too much time and money on the DR High Voltage Dimebag Darrell set. I bought these Super Brights thinking they were Nickels, but i thought I'd give these Steel strings a chance. I put them on my Jazz bass and i was very surprised at how smooth they feel. Usually, Steel strings are too abrasive for me and rip my fingers up. these are slightly rougher than the nickels i usually use but no rougher than a set of standard nickel Rotosounds. Theyre also quite low tension which i prefer so i can perform bends with ease on any string. Soundwise, theyre great!! Plenty of low end warmth and top end brightness that isn't too zingy. A very balanced volume and clarity across each string. I got a lot of compliments on how clear my bass sounded after my last gig. I bought a new fender telecaster and fell in love with the tone of it. I didn’t realize how much of an impact the strings had u til I changed them. I always found the metallic sound of new strings somewhat abrasive and too much. Round core strings don’t have that. There’s a warm, flexible, springiness to them. The tone is full sounding. It’s hard to describe. Anyway I had to go through so many packs of strings to figure out what kind of strings came on that fender. I finally found them after a lot of research and these things I have to say are underrated.Kevin
I’ve used pure nickel strings for many years now. I started using them to get a more vintage Roy Buchanan tone and after trial, error and much research I now use these strings. I used to use this gauge years ago and realised that when I saw them called the Jimi(Hendrix) set that this was the set they used to call the rock and roll 10s set. Unlike modern sets of 10s the G string is only 15 gauge and the bass E is only 38. (Roy Buchanan allegedly used to change the 10 to 9) This along with the pure nickel make the big bends that Jimi. Roy and Danny Gatton did possible. I love the sound of these strings and this gauge. They sound really authentic and can last a couple of months for me.Tom
Like I've stated in my other reviews, these are hands-down the best string I've ever used, and I've used pretty much every string out there. The pure nickel round-core ones really step up the game and you can notice a huge difference in normal hex-core strings, not to mention how these compare to any other string that isn't pure nickel. These are by far superior, and the regular round core nickel-wounds are a less expensive alternative to the pyramid hand-polished ones which are by far the best strings out there. The only difference is they aren't polished and are a tad rougher, as the hand-polished ones are smoother and get rid of a lot of finger noise -even though they're not flat wound!Antonio

I've used many strings over the yrs as most guitarists do. But I always go back to Ernie Ball. They are just simply the best quality and tone wise. I'm mad it took me so long to try these though. I love the slightly heavier bottom while still having the mid gauge on the highs that you normally get from the regular slinky set. They work great for standard tuning but work even better if you tune a half step down (my main tuning). Don't hesitate and get your pack or packs today. You won't be disappointed.Vince, T
Tried this string more for helping out with a slight string buzz on the low E. Thought a heavier low E would help out, which it did. That said, awesome sounds for thumping rhythm playing while leaving a standard 10s on the high end for note bending. Great balance when comparing 9-46 hybrid sets, which seemed more out of whack for me. Can't say yet for longevity but assume similar for Regular Slinky which benefit from a string cleaning after each use.Axel

I was surprised to fine this heavy of a guage of strings. I didn't know they existed. The thing about heavy strings is that you have much more ability to play with dynamic resonance – something you can't really get with light guage strings. With these strings, you can play as softly as you wish but when you really want it to "come out" they don't disappoint. I also only play with the fleshy tip of my fingers which melds into the subtle nuances of chord and solo performance.garycgrieve
The package is for C standard, not Drop C as some people mistakenly think…well, I guess you could use them for Drop C if you like veeeery stiff strings. If you want strings for Drop C, I'd suggest a skinny top/heavy bottom set of strings with an 11 up top and a 54 or so on the bottom so the bottom E tuned to C doesn't get floppy and knocked out of tune easily. Anyway, I've been using these for a long time on my USA core line PRS Custom 24 in C standard. They seem fine for going down a half step to B standard and feel fine even up half a step to C# standard. That's as high as I'd tune these strings up, though. I couldn't recommend these strings more!Josh
I have these strings on my schecter c-1 SLS blackjack tuned all the way down to drop A#, and let me tell you, despite being labeled as optimized for drop C, I don't recommend them for that tuning. 11-52s, 12-54s and 11-56s are better for Drop C, but for Drop B and Drop A#, you will not find a better gauge than these on a 25.5 scale length guitar or a 26.5 baritone. The tension is absolutely perfect! It feels like a 10-52 set in E standard with the E string tuned to D! Like with all D'addarios, they are bright, long lasting, they feel smooth and they absolutely love locking tremolos. I can yank my floyd rose all I want and it still will not go out of tune. Since D'addarios are bright as I stated before, they also remain clear under high gain, which I use my marshall JVM on the red channel with a maxon OD as a boost and a peavey 5150. Between the tuning stability, the tension, the reliability, the playability and the string life, you cannot go wrong with these for baritone tunings!Daniel

I love the feel of these strings. The tone is exactly how I like. My sound is more dynamic than before. Contrary to other reviews, they DO stay in tune (check your intonation and guitar setup in general) and they DO last a long time. I'm not a fan of strings that have windings that work against you. Got these just sampling a few string sets and stuck them on my 2005 Tele Deluxe, they have a fairly decent tone & output compared to my Slinkies and seem to be good quality but my major complaint is the G B and E to me are under much more tension tuned at 440, kinda mixed feelings since some of my guitars are strung with 10's so for me these are 10 feeling 9's ! Strings are the easiest swap for tone chasers so just try a set, you just might like them 🎼Dr.LaRrY

It has a very fundamental tone, good for mahogany guitars. But on rosewood guitars, it may kill off the overtones, which may not be right for some people. Recommended on larger guitars rather than small ones. They do last quite a long time, which helps justify the high price to an extent.J A.
recently asked curt mangan to make me up a custom set of round core monel strings in 12 string configuration. What a great set of strings. I loved monel strings on my maple bodied guitars. But when i saw they had round core available i ordered a set of 6 string strings. They were so good ,i asked about a 12 string set. They dont offer them as of yet, but rep. said they could make me up a set. i askedfor 10- 48,s round core monels, …What a great set of strings. My guild F 412 has always been a stunner tone wise with monel strings. But the round core monels enhanced that 5 x,s .. I put these on my Gibson J-55 and man what a difference over the phosphor bronze that came stock. I have yet to put them on my '29/'31 L3 or Custom Shop martin 0018, but I really adore the sound on my J-55. The J-55 has an Adirondack top, mahogany back/sides and is essentially a Gibson version of a Martin D-18 without the super boomy low end. I love these strings and they really bring out the natural woody tone of the guitar, which is how it should be in my opinion. After using these I really like the sound, and in a weird way I'm closer to that guitar than I ever was before, the phosphor bronze that were on the guitar were just too bright and metallic, I prefer the natural earthy tones. I put this guitar in different tunings and these strings really open it up there and in standard tuning as well. I can't wait to put these on my Martin 000, I just got it so the strings on it are fresh but they're 80/20s and I really don't like them. You can't go wrong with these strings. I'm going to be using them on my acoustics forever. Just vintage, natural, woody earthy tones and I couldn't be happier!Antonio

NYXL's best strings ever. SINGLES are the way to go! last's long but not coated, gets into tune quickly with little stretching. use the 24ga for my D string on a normal-ish 10s set, I use a 14ga for my G string too… so 10-12-14-24-36-48 really helps with my medium sized hands.justin

These strings sound different, in a good way. They are warm sounding with no hint of piercing harmonics and they stay in tune for days. Normally I have to tune every day on the strat but not these. They feel super comfortable on the fingers. I've tried several brands and these will be my choice from now on. Next I'll have to try the acoustics. These strings sound about as good as any pure nickel set can, and at a great price for the quality you receive. Most importantly to me, they feel great. The wound strings are not too stiff even though they are larger than a regular 10 gauge set. I've always preferred a wound g string and these manage to have that in a comfortable sized set for me. For years I've been trying numerous gauges and brands of strings for playing in Drop C. I currently play 25.5 scale guitars, but used to play 24.75 which made finding the right strings difficult. I thought I found the right set when I started using the 10-52 set and replacing the 52 for a 56, but I started wearing out the 10s on top so I went for this set. The lower strings are beefy enough to handle riffs, but the .42 (A) and .30 (D) strings still give and breath enough for smoother playing. The 11s on top feel like 10s in standard which make them great for soloing or playing fuller chords. Definitely recommend this gauge.Justin_lee2014

I have been using Ernie Ball strings for quite some time. I've gone through most of the gauges and I was set on the Mega Slinkys. Then I saw that EB came out with the lightest strings available called Zippy Slinky. I was way excited to try these out. My guitar center carried the strings and I bought 3 sets. As I was putting the strings on my guitar, I couldn't believe how thin they were especially the high E string. I played my tele after tuning the strings and I was amazed at how awesome they played and sounded! They are extremely easy to play and stay in tune and not one string broke. You don't have to play soft or delicate with these strings. I play surf and these strings really do the job. I'll be sticking with Zippys for now on.Dan

There was a point in time when I used ernie ball's set like this one. The problem with those is that, for me at least, the high strings are too skinny. With the dunlops it feels like they're supposed to be this way. I don't have to change my pick attack when going back and forth between the low and high strings. Wonderful.Properpat
First off, I'll admit I didn't take perfect care of these strings. Right after putting them on, I had to leave for a week and all together, I've had them on for around a month now. I cloth down my strings usually a few times a week, or whenever I pick up my instrument. However, these strings are about ready to have their goodbye. My three highest strings are showing some major rusting and something like that distracts me a lot, sadly. I can't give a better review than three because I am very disappointed with the string life I've just seen with this pack. Putting the bad aside, if you don't mind replacing these more often than you may be used to, it could be something worth looking at. The top gauge feels very smooth at first and gives some great tones. The bottom end also has a wonderful output and has not faced too many similarities for me as my rusting issues with my top half. I would say that these strings could help out a dedicated rhythm player or someone just looking to try something new. As for me, I haven't given up on this gauge of strings and will soon be buying D'addarios of the same specsVinneh

These strings are okay for the price, but I've had several problems with them. 1) This is not a sealed pack, so when I bought it the .010 had rusty patches right out of the pack and maybe the .013 too. They're in individual folded paper sleeves all together in an open-air fold-over plastic sheath. 2) They're NOT for your standard extended-range/long scale 8-string. Short scale guitars only. These fit my 25.5" guitar nicely, but when I tried putting these on my Agile Interceptor 30" scale guitar, they were probably 5"+ too short. Didn't even reach the nut, much less the peg (partly because it's a string-through, tune-o-matic, long scale, and reverse-inline, so lots of extra string is needed. Also, on the paper sleeve, it tells you that it's a 30" taper, which means that the string gets narrow after 30" to fit through the tuning peg. On many extended-rang/long scale guitars, the taper will begin before the nut, which you do NOT want. You want the string to be the same diameter along the entire vibrating length. 3) The tension balance is all out of whack. The gauges are okay on the last 6 strings for 25.5" scale. A little too tight from the .054 down (I can imagine on your typical long-scale 8-string they'd be way too tight), but I drop-tune the low strings to E and A, and the .074 is totally floppy and smacking the frets and the 0.64 could definitely be thicker.The Kev
I wrote a review earlier about these strings, but I have definitely changed my mind. I do have an eight string, and I used these for it and wow…they were not very good. The most obvious thing was the .74 string gets smaller WAY before the tuners, even for my seven string. So playing the first fret feels extremely awkward. Second, palm muting on these things sounds hideously dirty compared my old strings or even the stock strings. I also have to agree that a .54 for the E string is very ridiculous. The only thing I'd recommend these for is softer playing or if you never play chords. Otherwise, get the D'Addario or any other 8-string set.Brian Dice
Ernie Ball completely failed on this one! Ernie Ball is my usual brand of string, but whoever put this set together knows absoultely nothing about string tension or 8 string guitars. 8 string guitars are extended scale instruments from 27-30", so why are they putting a .054 for the E and a .064 on the B? In their 7 string sets they put a .052 or .056 on their low B, and that's for a normal 25.5" scale. Do you see any logic in this? Then they put a .074 on the 8th string. It's actually a good choice for the 8th string tension-wise (if the rest of the strings were balanced), but it has WAY too little tension compared to the low E and B. Compared to the other incredibly heavy strings in the pack it makes no sense. If you want a nice, balanced set look into LaBella Crazy 8's, or just buy a 7 string set and add on the appropriate 8th string.

I really like these strings. They are warm, and give what I believe to be the best tone on my Stratocaster's and Telecaster. I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. Once I get to play the 11's, I will give a review on that product page. As far as Fender Pure Nickel strings go…you can't go wrong on the tonal quality. Rock on!!!White Dog
For years I've played flatwound strings, but when I bought my new Fender American Professional Jaguar I was taken by how lively and expressive the strings were! I left them on. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. BUY THESE ! I hadn't used Fender strings for 30 years . A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I went to a local music store and bought a pack of Fender's . as an experiment I wasted to see how long before one would break . SIX WEEKS ! .. THEY LASTED 6 WEEKS ! .. Better than expected. Solid tone. Easy to play. Just right. Not too bright, just clean and tight, as a well made set should sound. Lows still great, even at the slightly lighter gauge. Don't get me wrong, they can get plenty bright if you want that. Just that they didn't seem as extra bright as some kinds try to be because they can with all the "super nano ultra special coated infused …but still hand crafted somehow" type stuff. Was never happy with previous sets on my 5 string. With these, I was able to set up with slightly lower action. This alone is worth it on my instrument. Finally, it's the bass it should've always been. Waited way too long to find these. I hope they keep making them. Probably going to order a few extra sets and try to keep a few on hand. As others point out, I'm not sure there's another set with these gauges for 5 strings. To me these are just right in a lot of ways.Person
Overall: Don't pay any attention to the low price these are great strings. Have used Fender 7250's on all kinds of bass guitars they always sound great and feel good. Been using the 8250-5M set for awhile. Wanted to try a lighter gauge. I get more guitar tones out of these. I was concerned I might overpower them since I'd used medium gauge for a couple of years. These are literally perfect on my Modern Player Jazz Bass V and 2 1993 Jazz Plus Vs. I bought the Modern Player new from Musiciansfriend. I think this light set is the set that it had on it. I use a pick, single and double thumb as well as two finger picking techniques. The E and B strings give a nice low end. The A, D and G strings have a growl and bright tone and respond well to picking or plucking. I'll be using these strings for some timegeorgesguitars
