I played this compared to the Fender FA-135CE, the Yamaha FGX800C, and the Ibenez Talman before making a decision. This guitar has a deeper, more bass filled sound compared to those three instruments. It was very playable and setup well from the factory, and the electronics sound great. The only downside is that in the time I've had this guitar is seems fairly easy to dent, I've knocked it against a few things on accident and now I can feel bumps on the neck and on the body of the guitar. I don't know if other acoustics are more or less durable though. Overall, if you can be gentle with your instruments or keep them in a gig bag, case, or on a stand, I highly recommend this guitar. Plugged in it sounds really nice, unplugged it has a lighter tone, definitely accentuates each note very well. Comes with nice strings on it, the preamp works as it should, looks great, fretboard feels real nice. On sale I definitely recommend this guitar for anyone in that beginner to intermediate stage. You will have to adjust the action using the included truss rod if you're someone who does more than just chords though. Overall a really solid guitar.Zack
The guitar looks and feels great, but after a few months of owning it the top started to warp around the bridge causing a buzz on the low e string. If you want to buy this I recommend also buying a guitar humidifier to prevent this issue. I have seen the same issue on other Mitchell guitars while going to guitar center.Thomas Y

In 1973 I bought my first acoustic Epiphone that has a 45mm nut width. My fingers are not big just medium, but any less width and I tend to touch the strings beside the one i want to push down, a little too often. So after 39 years my epiphone needs major reworking that im not in a position to do that just now. I began a search for the same wide nut acoustic for an economic price and took a chance on this Mitchell which compared to others is almost free. I opened it up and inspected it in detail and it was amazingly flawless. Then stretched the strings and tuned it to my boss clip on tuner. Then I lowered the action with the truss rod until it was just right then tuned it again. And its never out of tune any more than the normal shrinkage of the cold nights. Just yesterday my wife walked in as I was playing it and i stopped and said, '' you know i really lucked out on this low price guitar. i can play this at that restaurant if they have live music again. I figured id need to get a more expensive guitar for that next year but this one sounds as good as i could want.'' Thank you Mr. Mitchell for giving us this excellent beautiful guitar.Barry

I just wanted an affordable acoustic to write songs on so I wasn't asking for much. It's very well built but really it doesn't sound very full or even very good, especially for a dreadnought and isn't the most comfortable to play. I have to confess, I set it up myself and I'm sure a pro could do a lot better. Still, it's got this sort of bad muffled sound that cheap dreadnoughts are famous for.Michael
I've been playing guitar for over 40 years and I have to admit that this model is now my favorite Dreadnought acoustic I have ever owned. I have more guitars than viruses, which include vintage and "high end" types. It's not just "a great guitar for beginners" even though the price is a guaranteed good investment. I am experienced and I bought 3. One for each of the different places I travel. I plan on getting more as gifts and another to designate as DADGAD. Do not let the low price deceive you. Try playing this guitar at the store while sitting in the "high end" section. Play a full G on this guitar, and then on one of the popular expensive ones. The action is low with no buzz and very buttery to play scales, especially when a capo is used. The intonation remains accurate all the way to the highest notes. The fretboard is unpolished, so vibrato may be noisy, especially with the stock strings (see below). The neck may need a slight adjustment with the tool after a month, but this is typical with most new out of the box acoustics. I recommend replacing the original strings with Elixir Nanoweb bronze. I use medium, and a beginner should try light. I am not sure why this model is so inexpensive. Whatever the case, the designers did it right.Dadadadeo
I'm really impressed with the quality of this guitar. I went to guitar center to pick it up. And as soon as I took it out of the box, I was amazed. I couldn't wait to get home and try it out. And sure enough, it sounds just as good as it looks. I've been playing acoustic guitars for over 30 years. My nephew wants to learn to play and he just graduated high school. So I was looking for a reasonable price starter guitar. Came across this one and decided to buy it. And I feel I made the perfect choice after looking at several others. The quality, feel, and sound is awesome for the money. Stays in tune after wailing on it. Would definitely recommend this guitar to anyone getting started. I purchased this grade 3 scratch and, dent. I have purchased a few items this way and, a lot of dinero can be saved. It is just like a new guitar, there was a ding on the edge of the large bout, some of the finish had been broken and, a little bit of wood was gone but, not broken through. Fairly easy repair with some super glue, careful work on the spot, a little scraping of the glue after a few build up coats, some sanding with a very fine grit, polishing and, some buffing yeilded positive results. Well worth the small effort. Great playing and, sounding guitar. The Fishman electronics perform beautifully! Acousticly the Dred body puts out a lush full sound. I have a Breedlove concert with the same electronics, the sound is full, powerful and, comes through my Fishman Artist accurately and, full, no quacky piezo sound. I paid a lot more for my Breedlove but, this Mitchell is right there with it. Both excellent guitars. The main reason I purchased this Mitchell is because I was wanting a decent guitar as a backup that would not break the bank and, have all the goodies I was looking for and, this was it. I won't say what I paid but, it was a great deal and, with a little fixin I have a Great guitar! I would walk out on any stage and, perform with this instrument without any concerns. I will admit the Fishman electronics were a big selling point. I once owned a Taylor and, it was a beautiful guitar but, the electronics were sad. It went back to the store asap, it would not worked for me in a performance. Sorry Taylor. I would recommend this guitar to anyone, it's a tremendous buy and, a really nice guitar. For what it's worth I've been a musician for over 50yrs and, I know when something is good or not, it's just plain experience. I bought this guitar off the wall at GC after playing it and a few others in the < 500 price range. To me, it was the strongest contender in store based on tone, even with well aged strings, and feel. I've made no adjustments to mine other than restringing with D'addario EJ11, and have played it probably a cumulative 4 hours in the week I've had it. It has opened up a little more at this point and the tone is quite satisfying. This is my first exposure to a mahogany top and while I'm sure the effect of that varies from model to model, this one has dispelled my general concern of a lack of clarity and volume that I had based on many demos and reviews characterizing mahogany as being "warm" and "mellow". The size of this guitar makes it well suited for the couch which is where I've played it about half the time so far. I haven't plugged it in so no comment on the electronics. Good design and production. Requires set up/ adjustment due to mass production, shipping and warehousing from Indonesia. It's a GC brand, so their luthier did it for free, including replacing a blown string. Can't afford a Taylor (made here in San Diego). However, I like this guitar and the thousands saved.Darrell
Went into my sort-of local Guitar Center store with a modest budget to add a new acoustic to my collection, and it was a quiet day, so I was able to 'test drive' a number of guitars in the designated price range (and slightly above if there was a noticeable quality jump worth the investment). After sampling about a dozen or so, I was surprised that this Mitchell model remained constantly in the running sound-wise, competing with and surpassing brands and models that I would have preemptively assumed to be front-front-runners for my hard earned dollars. In the end, the sound, the materials/construction of the instrument, and the increasingly important-to-me neck/fret board dimensions that my arthritic hands could navigate more comfortably than my other acoustics won the day. It being an acoustic-electric did not have a huge bearing on my choice, but I have found that those enhancements have won me over after spending some time at home plugged into an amp. It's an itty bitty little thing. It's so lightweight it almost floats away! It was perfectly set up out of the box, it arrived with no damage. First, I tuned it. (It was close, whoever set it up musta tuned it before shipping). It's got very accurate tuning pegs, not like a Squier or Glarry, with slack in the pegs. Then I sat down and ran through some scales, and strummed some chords. It's got a fast playing neck. I can play faster on this guitar, than any I've tried, and I've played hundreds of guitars from an American Fender 52 reissue Telecaster, down to the terrible cheap electric guitars of the 1960s. Anyway, I finally got around to plugging into my Blackstar Fly 3 battery amp, and wow those Mitchell humbuckers are HOT! I love this little thing, it's going to be my main axe, and I'm going to order it a new hard shell case, so it stays looking great.The Volkswagen Cowboy
For the most part; this a pretty nice beginner's guitar. It has nice features that aren't usually found on cheaper guitars. I was very impressed with the body contours, pickup arrangement, sealed tuners, & string through body. I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son. I paid a little extra for expedited shipping & it arrived less than 48hrs after I ordered it! Everything was great until I tuned up the guitar & found that the claims that "every guitar receives a stateside set up" are entirely false. The ends of the fret wire are extremely sharp; there's no way that I'd let a child attempt to play this without first filing down/ dressing the frets to avoid gouging your hands. It seems to stay in tune fairly well; which is rather surprising as the neck is NOT properly bolted to the guitar body. There is a relatively large gap between the neck & body- large enough to see daylight! The gap is likely due to common machine assembly w/ poor quality control. I'm somewhat excited to see how well this guitar will play after I disassemble the neck, drill the body holes 1/16" larger, file the frets, & reassemble w/ some higher quality strings. Even with the additional work that's necessary; it's still a rather nice guitar & definitely cheaper than a project guitar. Last time I checked; it was around $20 or so to have a guitar set up by a Luthier- so it still works out to be a decent buy if you bought it & paid to have it set up. I'm just rather disappointed that the only problem with the entire transaction is a very simple issue that could be avoided w/ a couple tweaks of the CNC machines spitting these out by the 100's…Jonathan
I am quite fond of short scale guitars, and I rate this one quite high on the list of must haves! Frets are adequately dress, it is quite light, finish (walnut satin) is excellent. Playability is quite good, intonation is spot on, even the pickups are ok, though I did change them out on mine, along with putting some shielding paint in the pickup and control cavities and swapping out the potentiometers (none of this was necessary, but you know how us guitarists can be!). The kind of music I like is 70s rock, 80s and 90s metal, I don't play clean much – always some grit coming outta the amp! I got this on sale, so it was well below $100. Not sure what else to say, but if you are on the fence about getting one of these, either for yourself or a young, aspiring rocker, just pull the trigger, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Main thing to keep in mind on this is playability and setup are very good for a guitar in its price point even at full price, maybe even twice the price. Is it perfect? No, but it doesn't need to be, just needs to be good and it is. Just get the darn thing. it's a fun guitar to play, looks and sounds good as well.Scott

A lot of value, especially at the discounted sale price. Handsome design. But… Where is the quality control? Sharp fret ends, action set waayyy to low. major fret buzzing. several of the tuners were sticking. Rough edges on wooden bridge, strings are "rough" and lifeless. Pre-amp works well, but the tuner is inconsistent. Fretboard wood was really dry… did they store it dry storage? If you are willing to invest some time and effort like I did, filing the fret ends, raising the bridge, conditioning the wood, etc. it can serve as a first beginner guitar or a beater that I wanted. I'm no expert, but one can't expect a novice to take care of these issues. Getting a luthier to fix things properly, and you've doubled the price of the guitar. I've been spoiled. My other 4 guitars are medium to entry-level Yamahas, and none had these type of issues. BTW. the finish is not black, it is a charcoal grey and is distinctive. The neck is easy to play, but the sound and resonance is typical for a thin-bodied guitar. But, with a built-in tuner pre-amp, it's a decent value.Lawrence
Sounds good so far. First impressions: the "metallic black" is more metallic than black. It's really more of a shimmery dark grey than black; the pick guard which IS basically black contrasts more than product images suggest. Frets are a bit sharp at the ends, but otherwise, no major complaints.Jeff
The electronics didn't work well at all. I was able to sporadically interface with my Tonewood Amp, but it was hit-or-miss. I know it wasn't my TWA or cable that was the problem. I liked the sound of this guitar, and it was comfortable for my frame. The action was perfect for me out of the box…about as low as you can get without fret buzzing. However, all of the fret ends we're sticking out and would have needed filing. The fretboard and bridge wood seemed soft and rough. I suspect neither would wear well. There was a spot near the sound hole where it looked like glue had been smeared when the pick guard was placed on. That would not rub off. Gooey streaks elsewhere did clean off. There were some ripples in the finish around the sound hole. The color was more grey/gunmetal than black, and spray marks were visible in the paint. I got this guitar on sale at 40% off: $127.19, delivered. For that price I probably would have kept it had the electronics worked properly. I returned it.Regina

I bought this guitar to check out a budget friendly offering from Yamaha. I have to say I was not disappointed! Excellent tone and volume, the top really resonates. The guitar was really well setup right out of the box. It needed about 3/4 of a clockwise truss rod adjustment, no prob. Other than that it didn't need any fret dressing whatsoever. That's really impressive for a Chinese guitar. Heck even one of my Mexican Martins needed fret dressing out of the box! Also intonation was spot on and this also is important in your guitar. There is a point of quality when an instrument reaches when it stops being seen as "better or worse" but rather just a different flavor. This Yamaha has reached that point. You can play it alongside a guitar costing 5x more and it stands up well. Yamaha is also one of those rare companies with a long history of top quality across all kinds of products, and guitars are an area Yamaha knows well. This is just a beautiful guitar through and throughout. You can get beautiful uncompromisingly great studio recordings with this guitar. Hitting the low strings hard with strumming gives a nice deep and rich tone. Also, the hardware / tuners are nice.Scott
I've owned many acoustics over the years, MANY, and this Yamaha is one of the best sounding I've ever owned. Went to GC just to check out a few lower end acoustics to pick up for jamming on, and tried almost every one in the room. Picked this one up last just before I was ready to leave, and immediately was blown away by the sound and playability, brought a couple friends to listen and tell me which one they thought sounded the best, and hands down this won over all of them. It has the tone and warmth of a Martin D34, which I have owned a few, and it plays like a dream. The neck is so sliky smooth, easy to fly up and down with no effort. It has amazing sustain and beautiful tone, I fell in love with it and just couldn't put it down. I didn't expect a guitar of this price range to sound as good as it does, got it home and I couldn't put it down. Played for 4 hours straight, and even after trying to put it down to go to bed at 1am I found myself playing a for a few more minutes before I could actually go to sleep. Love this Yamaha more than any guitar I've bought in the last decade. The best thing about it is, It gave me the desire to pick up playing guitar again, after hardly touching any of my other guitars for almost a year it's the one I want to play more than all of them. Im really digging this guitar. I needed a travel guitar for some upcoming trips and went through the rungs. Tried the martin backpacker and traveler rm sp, but neither met my needs. The martin limits you to 15 frets and the rm sp wasnt that much smaller than my Taylor GS mini. Weve got a young one and traveling with him brings a whole slew of extra things that have to be included in a trip. My wife was not having us give up one of our carry-ons for a guitar and case. The ultra-light is perfect, and I can throw it in my back pack (in its case) with just a little of the neck hanging out. Thus, not having to give up a carry-on. Its perfect. Went with the electric too over the acoustic/electric version because of the tune-o-matic type bridge and saddles. Stellar product. Lastly, the size and sound unplugged are perfection for playing around on with others in the room and not bothering them. It actually makes me play more now.
I never knew why some guitarists have a favorite guitar and even name them. (I own several higher-end guitars and to me, they're just tools.) I purchased a black Traveler Ultra-Light some time in 2019 thinking it was a "cheapie" but good enough to stuff in an overhead bin of an airliner whenever I traveled. I was certainly impressed at how the guitar played and how well it was made, despite the low price. Since then it's been with me everywhere. But that's not how it came to be my favorite guitar. Last November I was hospitalized for 4 days. Because of Covid going around, I couldn't have visitors so I asked my wife to bring me my Traveler so I wouldn't be bored to death. That's when I fell in love with this little guitar. Because I had my own room and because my vitals were checked every hour, I spent a LOT of time playing. And because of its size and how light it was, I could play it in bed. AND it kept my mind off of what I was going through… a big plus for the road to recovery. Today, I purchased my second one in Torino Red and ordered some blacked-out locking tuners so I can keep it at my other place out of state. As for the black one, I'm not leaving that anywhere…. it's staying here with me!
I love this little guitar. I bought mine from the GC store. I have Taylor GS mini for my RV, but it's still too big and too loud in a small rv with others. I saw the Traveller guitars and thought I'd go to a GC and try it out. I'm too new at this so got the GC sales person to play so I could hear the difference using a big amp. The ones with the pickups were hot and a little bitey for me as I only really play acoustic. The Piezo pickup acoustic sounded mellow and it was on the guitarathon sale for 100 dollars off. That tipped it for me. It's small, extremely light and when unplugged, extremely quite quiet. It's so small, I'm finding that I pick up this one more than the regular guitars. Bear in mind, it's not acoustic or electric, so it's not going to sound like anything else. I bought a headphone amp and also use a regular amp when I can be loud. When practicing unplugged at night, it's loud enough for me, but nobody else can hear it. Also, I've found that if I press it tightly to my side, the lower notes reverberate in my chest. With the acoustic pickup there is no tone or volume controls, so everything has to be done through the amp. I'm getting used to that. With no body and only the wire bottom, it takes a little time before it begins to feel normal. The only negative is if I don't hit the notes perfect, I can get some fret buzz. All in all, it's so different from any other guitar, I would suggest trying it in person first. You will either love it or hate it. And remember it's a small travel guitar you can also use regularly. Play it both amplified and unplugged and see if you think it will work for you.Mike

I typically play steel string acoustics. I wanted a quality nylon string guitar without the wide flat neck of a standard classical guitar. This is it. Extremely well made with quality woods (no laminates) that has a great sound (both amplified and unplugged). It does not have a large body and projection is somewhat limited when playing unplugged but has incredible sound both amplified and not amplified. Can be played quietly when everyone else has gone to sleep, or can flood the house with music if they're awake. The action and intonation on this guitar was fabulous right out of the box and I didn't have to make any setup adjustments. This is an awesome guitar and I would recommend it to anyone looking for a nylon string acoustic.John
In 1981 I had three guitars, two of them acoustics, and one of those was an Ovation Country Artist–a nylon-string guitar with a 14 fret, comparatively narrow neck. It was my first good guitar, but when I left for grad school, I kept only a Martin OO-18, and sold the Ovation. In the 30 years since, I have been trying to find a replacement, I tried various Ibanez and Yamaha guitars, but they didn't have what it took. Then, a couple of months ago, needing a brain break, I left work and took myself to the acoustic room at Sam Ash. There was another guy in there playing, so I looked for a quiet instrument, and took this one down off the wall. Immediately, I knew that it was special. The clarity of the tone, and the richness of the bass, it was all there. The other guy liked the sound too, and soon we were jamming and telling stories. Both of us tried other neoclassical guitars, and agreed that this one was best. I loved the guitar at first note, but when I looked at the price tag, I knew I could never own it. So I bought (online) a similar guitar, but it lacked the feel and sound of this one. My wife heard me playing, asked what I thought about the similar guitar I'd bought, and I explained that it wasn't the same. Then she told me to buy this one. So I did, And I have been playing it daily since then. The OO-18 is still with me and still gets some time, but right now my fingers itch to play and hear this one. Did it replace my long-gone Country Artist? Not exactly–this Takamine is significantly superiod to the Country Artist in all respects. Even if I don't play it plugged in 🙂Andy M_S

Great intermediate acoustic. Thinner, lightweight body that makes it very comfortable. Neck design more like an electric with rolled fingerboard edges and smooth frets. Cutaway enables a surprising amount of high end fret access. Piezo amplifier is really deep and rich sounding. Colours and design features convey nice 1950s vibe: well made and very good finish. Action a little high, but badly so, just that it could be lower – but a set up would rectify this. Overall a fear guitar at a superb price and inspiring to look at and play.Chazz
This Fender guitar is awesome. Out of the box it is almost perfectly set up. The intonation is off just by a little bit and only with 2 or 3 strings. The sound seems a little washed while playing chords, but single notes are loud and clear. All the frets have edge treatment, nice and smooth. The synthetic bone used for the nut and bridge are way better than plastic, allowing for a long sustain. The guitar could use better tuning keys, but the guitar stays in tune good enough. Over all my guitar was built well, and I'm glad it sounds good, too. I would recommend this guitar for all beginner guitar players because of the sound quality, and anyone else who don't have the money for their dream guitar.Tim
The pick guard is just a cheap adhesive sticker thingy and it was already damaged and peeling off when I opened the box. Not a great first impression. But I chose to take it off completely and thankfully, the glossy finish that's all over the body of this guitar is also underneath the pick guard, so it doesn't look too bad at all and I can always replace it if I want to. The "champagne" color looks champagne in the right light, but appears khaki or even greenish the rest of the time. I do love the shape though. It's smaller, lighter, and sleeker than most guitars I've handled, awesome for a more petite person like me. I'm 5 feet tall and 90lbs, so a lot of guitars have been too bulky and awkward for me. In that respect, the Newporter has made me a better player since you naturally do better when you're more comfortable. I also love the neck/head with the electric style shape and inline strings. I like the strings it came with a lot. It didn't come properly tuned, but that was a quick fix, especially since the tuner works so nicely. The sound is surprisingly rich. Great volume, especially with a pick. Overall, it's a really nice option at a really nice price, I just wish the quality control was better. Getting a new instrument with peeling parts is really disappointing, feels like I got it used or something 🙁 but if you're lucky and get a unit that is perfectly intact, you'll love this rich, beautiful, comfortable guitar. But if you can afford to spend about double, then I would suggest you do that so you won't be gambling with the quality as much.Trudy G

I played everything I could get my hands on up to $1000. I was simply blown away with this Mitchell guitar's sound and playability. I have found that less expensive 12 strings can be pretty glassy sounding and typically lack low end. Not this guitar. It has a very pleasing airy sound that is warm and articulate. It is well balanced across all the frequencies to my ears. Most tops are sitka spruce, this is mahagony and seems to be what really helps set it apart. I had to ignore the "brand" name and just go with my ears and instinct The strings were broken in and it stays in tune very well. It was set up very nicely with low action and just easy to play and inspiring. The bridge was still fairly flat and not pulling up much at all, as can be typical with cheaper guitars that use young wood that still needs to dry out and settle. I have tried this guitar in 2 Guitar Centers (Manchester, CT and New London, CT) when shopping for other reasons but I like to try the goods while I'm there. Point being, I keep going back to it. I've been thinking about adding a 12string to my arsenal. After trying other brands in higher price ranges I find myself enjoying the playability and sound more while in disbelief if its price point. As I read other people's reviews I have come to the conclusion that it's a must have. There is a sale right now on the thing so I'll be owning it within a couple hours. For practice, trying something new, playing out… I believe we have a winner. Nice job, Mitchell. P.s. I couldn't bring myself to add an official Con, honestly. This is my first 12 string after 36 yrs of playing. There are no issues to speak of with the guitar I received. Sounds and plays excellent. Looks are better in person. Honestly couldn't be more happy about this guitar. I mainly playing electric guitar, rock to metal, and not that big into acoustic. If you get one, I sincerely hope it's as nice as mine. This guitar was affordable. I shaved off 2mm from the bridge to make it closer to the height I'm used to. It plays easy, it sounds good and it looks great. My Alvarez sounds better only because it is bigger. This is one solid guitar. I will have another one. I admit I was a little hesitant to purchase online without having the ability to play it first. I have extremely small hands an this fits like a glove. In all honest it has taken be a bit to write this because I was having to much fun with my guitar. The service was fast and efficient. I plan on purchasing more items from this individuals. For the money, I couldn't find a better acoustic guitar (A new one anyways). I've owned many high end Martins, but I wanted something that was easy to travel with and I wouldn't worry about if it got scratched/dented. Out of the box the action and intonation were very close to perfect. I adjusted the truss rod myself to fit my playing preference, and the intonation was so close I doubt anyone will notice when playing further up the neck. The building materials are not great, but once again, "for the money"… My only con is they don't have a hard shell case for this particular model. The included soft shell case is still convenient, but I kind of wish they'd make a HSC like they did for the dreadnaught model.Garrett G.
This guitar is good for the money. Neck straight. All workmanship is precise. Light and not overly heavy from clear coat gunk. Neck is short but wide. Strings that came on it went in trash in 5 min. Use Lixrs on these small guitars. Nuff said…Not too small like Martin mini where you fight it not to be a uke and it really is. Quality is near perfect. Case is the good one like the minis. Doesnt feel like a GS mini which feels too small. This guitar feels good but smaller that normal. Set up fine out of box (which is more than I can say for the USA models). Ready to play. I will prob change out stock pickup for DTar syemour duncan wavelength solo later. Not that the stock pickup is bad; just like seymour better for acoustic under saddle "non-quack" pickup. If you know how to use an eq then dnot need that extra tone button anyway, plus fihsman is kind of not great stuff. After about 10yrs needed something better. Buy one before Martin decides not to make them anymore…Kokbloock
Overall: I purchased this guitar for practice, and to record licks for quick pre-production ideas. My Taylor GS Mini does not have electronics and I wanted to add a Martin to my collection anyway. When plugged in the Martin sounds very rich and there is almost no sound degradation between plugged and mic’d, very impressive! The fingerboard is wider than the one on my Taylor GS and as a result is much easier to play for me. This guitar is not as rich sounding or as comfortable as my Washburn 55 Comfort Series but the sound, the cut-away, and the small size makes this my choice for those quick pre-productions or gigs.Installation of an onboard tuner would make this guitar perfect in my opinion.

Ke kulatým narozeninám jsem si chtěl koupit elektroakustickou kytaru do 10.000 Kč. V pražské prodejně jsem strávil tři hodiny pobíháním od jedné kytary ke druhé a zkoušením, která hraje nejlíp. Stále dokola, tři hodiny… Vyzkoušel jsem všechny obecně známé značky, ale zvuk žádné mě neuspokojoval. Většinou byl "plechový". A ty co hrály opravdu dobře, byly v cenové kategorii 20.000 Kč a výš. Jenže já měl jen 10 tisíc… Ale jedna kytara do deseti tisíc tam hrála krásně, podle mých představ. Měla plný zvuk, pro folkovou doprovodnou kytaru nádherný – Washburn HD 10SCEB. Jenže byla černá… A já černou nechtěl. Připadala mi "pohřební". Ale krásně hrála. A tak jsem ji vždy odložil a zase se k ní pokorně vrátil, od světlých kolegyň jiných značek, protože ten zvuk byl opravdu slyšitelně lepší, plnější a zvonivější než u ostatních kytar v této cenové kategorii. A tak jsem si ji nakonec koupil. A dnes jsem šťastný, že ji mám. Zvukově skvělá. A dokonce i ten černý lak, který se mi nelíbil, mám dnes rád, protože i vzhledově je vyjímečná a nezapadne mezi standardními blonďatými kytarami okolo. Používám bronzové struny Elixir 12/56 (přechodová sada). Jsou hodně, hodně tvrdé, ale mají skvělý zvuk – zvonivé výšky, výrazné basy. Na akustické kytary Wasburn nedám dopustit, protože v naší kapele se sešly hned tři kytary Wasburn – HD7, můj HD10 a HD100 , takže mi věřte, že kytary Washburn jsou opravdu skvělé a jednoznačně předčí svým zvukem kteroukoli kytaru světových výrobců ve stejné cenové kategorii. A až budu slavit další kulaté narozeniny tak si koupím dvakrát dražší Washburn HD100 🙂Luděk

Bought this 2013 model in late 2018 in like new pre-owned condition with Original Taylor hardshell for $600 shipped. It was listed at $1200 msrp in 2013 but available elsewhere new for $999. The 214ce replaced this discontinued model. Looks like it was played twice and stored until sold. More impressed with the aesthetics than I thought Id be. The rosewood layers are lovely, the top is crisp and the binding is solid. The neck is perfect for my smaller hands and the cutaway offers excellent access to squeeze out some extra notes. The electronics seem okay. I had lots of feedback on my first plugin but some adjustments will fix that, or maybe a soundhole plug. Other than that the sound and intonation is excellent, though the non-ampd volume isnt as loud as a GS or GA model. Fresh strings and a heavier primetone pick should help that. The original Taylor HS case was a nice surprise, $200 retail.copydoc
Overall: This is my 4th Taylor. Have to say , was disappointed with the set up. Super high action. I have bought (400, Guild and 500 Takamine with much better set up. Guild had just as nice soft case. Im still a Taylor guy, but this is not a 900 guitar. Maybe like 700. (My other Taylor's are 1993 410, 256ce, 814,ce and this one.
I love this guitar. The sound is bright and clear and it's so much fun to play. Excellent quality as well. Taylor make quality guitars at every price. I had a Martin D-18 and I liked this more. I know…sounds crazy, but it's true. I bought a Taylor 414ce because I liked this Taylor so much, but again…the 210ce was more fun to play. Go try this guitar. GC as always is on the ball! This is an enormous value for sure. I've owned, and still own many fine guitars, Gibson, Martin, and Taylor and others… and this Blueridge plays neck to neck with any of them. The volume is quite loud, thick, rich, deep yet bright, penetrating, and balanced with rich lows, and crystal clear high trebs. I find this guitar to play and feel, and sound very much like a $2500 Martin D-18…which I almost bought….till I tried this BR-140. …it fully cured my D-18 GAS! ..I now have my Martin D-18, and for $2000 less. Save yourself two grand…get this Blueridge BR-140. All solid honduran mahogany, back and sides, beautiful, and solid sitka top..rosewood fret board and bridge..genuine bone nut and saddle. Frets were dressed well, no glue slop inside like Gibsons. The poly finish is beautiful and durable, it will NEVER cloud up and deteriorate like nitro finishes or become sticky on the neck when playing and sweating…never…..that is one of the things I absolutely LOVE about this guitar. And it has the rich CLARITY and VOLUME in get in a D-18 for thousands less. I love the unique Dalmation pick guard…and I especially love the genuine mother of pearl inlays on the head stock..they are intricate and flawless, and it makes the D-18 look drab and uninteresting campared to this guitar. I would imagine Martin has a lot of heartburn over this $500 Chinese made D-18….and they should..it's real good with new strings and a nice set up. Bottom line…Does the Martin D-18 play and sound better? ..maybe just a TINY bit…Is the Martin D-18 worth $2000 more…that's just rediculous. Get this guitar if you want a D-18. You won't regret it. It is a real steal, and a real deal, and probably the best kept secret in the guitar industry. The secret is out! Get it TODAY!!!
Excellent sound for the price. It's certainly no Martin, but it's pretty close for it's price range. Surprisingly close. It's loud. The mahogany back and sides give the nice vintage sound. It's light and resonant. Can't wait to hear what it sounds like years down the road, after the wood has really "opened up." Perfect for flatpicking and strumming. I wanted a guitar that had nice bassy lows and shimmering trebly highs. This guitar fit the bill perfectly after I changed the light strings that came on it and put some mediums. I've had mine for about 3 weeks now and I love it.Kev
This is my third Blueridge guitar. Musician's Friend consistently sends me flawless, first quality instruments. If anyone has any doubt, Blueridge guitars are first rate, beautifully crafted, beautiful looking, great playing as well as sonically wonderful instruments. For those researching and conflicted over their purchase, I also own a Martin MMV dreadnaught and have played D18s, D28s, HD28s and am amazed at what beautifully crafted, perfect and awesome sounding guitars they all are. I feel the exact same way about my Blueridge guitars. As a patriotic American I wish all my guitars were American made, but I have to live within my means and my desire to play the very best I can afford. This is a great guitar, comparable to the very best and most expensive. Go for it. I also own a Blueridge BR-140A and BR-160 and this review would also describe them accurately. They all have rich warm bass, perfect mid-range and bright, even, and sparkling highs. I've learned that for my tastes medium gauge strings are best on dreadnaughts and the thickness of your picks determine the warmth and/or brightness of your sound. Experiment with different strings and picks till you find which combinations you like. I believe you are sure to like your new Blueridge BR-140.Guitarzan
