Mitchell Md200 Double Cutaway Electric Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

It's an itty bitty little thing. It's so lightweight it almost floats away! It was perfectly set up out of the box, it arrived with no damage. First, I tuned it. (It was close, whoever set it up musta tuned it before shipping). It's got very accurate tuning pegs, not like a Squier or Glarry, with slack in the pegs. Then I sat down and ran through some scales, and strummed some chords. It's got a fast playing neck. I can play faster on this guitar, than any I've tried, and I've played hundreds of guitars from an American Fender 52 reissue Telecaster, down to the terrible cheap electric guitars of the 1960s. Anyway, I finally got around to plugging into my Blackstar Fly 3 battery amp, and wow those Mitchell humbuckers are HOT! I love this little thing, it's going to be my main axe, and I'm going to order it a new hard shell case, so it stays looking great.The Volkswagen Cowboy

For the most part; this a pretty nice beginner's guitar. It has nice features that aren't usually found on cheaper guitars. I was very impressed with the body contours, pickup arrangement, sealed tuners, & string through body. I purchased this as a Christmas gift for my son. I paid a little extra for expedited shipping & it arrived less than 48hrs after I ordered it! Everything was great until I tuned up the guitar & found that the claims that "every guitar receives a stateside set up" are entirely false. The ends of the fret wire are extremely sharp; there's no way that I'd let a child attempt to play this without first filing down/ dressing the frets to avoid gouging your hands. It seems to stay in tune fairly well; which is rather surprising as the neck is NOT properly bolted to the guitar body. There is a relatively large gap between the neck & body- large enough to see daylight! The gap is likely due to common machine assembly w/ poor quality control. I'm somewhat excited to see how well this guitar will play after I disassemble the neck, drill the body holes 1/16" larger, file the frets, & reassemble w/ some higher quality strings. Even with the additional work that's necessary; it's still a rather nice guitar & definitely cheaper than a project guitar. Last time I checked; it was around $20 or so to have a guitar set up by a Luthier- so it still works out to be a decent buy if you bought it & paid to have it set up. I'm just rather disappointed that the only problem with the entire transaction is a very simple issue that could be avoided w/ a couple tweaks of the CNC machines spitting these out by the 100's…Jonathan

I am quite fond of short scale guitars, and I rate this one quite high on the list of must haves! Frets are adequately dress, it is quite light, finish (walnut satin) is excellent. Playability is quite good, intonation is spot on, even the pickups are ok, though I did change them out on mine, along with putting some shielding paint in the pickup and control cavities and swapping out the potentiometers (none of this was necessary, but you know how us guitarists can be!). The kind of music I like is 70s rock, 80s and 90s metal, I don't play clean much – always some grit coming outta the amp! I got this on sale, so it was well below $100. Not sure what else to say, but if you are on the fence about getting one of these, either for yourself or a young, aspiring rocker, just pull the trigger, I don't think you'll be disappointed. Main thing to keep in mind on this is playability and setup are very good for a guitar in its price point even at full price, maybe even twice the price. Is it perfect? No, but it doesn't need to be, just needs to be good and it is. Just get the darn thing. it's a fun guitar to play, looks and sounds good as well.Scott

I have been playing for 50 years, and have played many electric guitars, some very expensive. This guitar is an amazing value,and plays better than some of the More expensive. The pickup is adequate, and with better strings it frets well. Blow the speaker out on that little amp, after all it's basically free. plug in to a good amp and you can make it sound surprisingly good For 80 bucks, just do it!Dano

Basically, it's a good guitar. I recommend to newbies and intermediate player. The head, neck and body are good. The finish is smooth just like mirror. The amp is good working as well as pick-up. Only one thing that i had been noticed are those fret-wires sharp-edge or burrs (top & bottom). I used small pile with lightly stokes to create chamfer at the edge, it takes me a couple of minutes to do that. It's fun to play this guitar.cyriescoba-0

It's no wonder Gibson is having financial difficulties, this guitar is a prime example of why. Purchased and delivered for around $75? Are you kidding me? Delivered? Gibson's main line guitars are priced beyond value these days. The other line they own, Epiphone, now makes some higher end guitars considered Gibson's near equal, while they are practically paying me to buy this. Subtract the costs of final delivery to my door, shipping from China to US, the extras like the flimsy gig bag, strings, DVD and the adorable amp(with KICKSTAND), they probably have about $30 in this guitar as it leaves the factory. Considering that, there is no better guitar made anywhere than this beautiful but awful guitar. Beautiful finish, solid feel and… well it is pretty. After a couple hours of filing away at frets that were sharp enough to cut skin on the edges and as level as a gently rolling MOUNTAIN RANGE, a restring with better strings, setting the action, tightening tuners and bridges and trying with almost no success to intonate it, I have a guitar that plays way outside it's price range. I'd say it plays more like a $100 guitar than the $30 guitar that Gibson sent. Sadly some may stumble upon this guitar kit as a starter, a way to learn guitar. In that respect, I hope it doesn'tstymie and stifle young potential talent who may not realize that the guitar can be improved upon, as the way it came out of the box would likely do. It sounded horrible, with good reason. Loose tuning pegs and bridges not being snugged along with crappy strings and a downright dangerous fretboard will do that. On the other hand, now it looks pretty AND sounds pretty… well OK, prettier. It's not a Gibson, it's not even an Epiphone, it's a Maestro. For the price, this guitar is awesome. The overall feel and look is outstanding, and the bridge pickup is clear and articulate (the neck is ok). The split coil sounds are chimey but not harsh and brittle which was surprising. No high frets, the nut is cut well for the strings, the tuners are pretty stable. Cosmetically the finish and general build quality is very good with some exceptions. Mine came with a crack in the veneer at the heel of the neck near the pickup. There are some pretty gnarly tool marks on the fret board and frets, but mostly on the higher ones which is pretty typical on something at this price point. there are some chips and what looks to be excess glue to where the nut is installed. Cosmetic stuff isn't THAT important to me, especially for lower priced instruments, although the crack in the veneer bummed me out so that contributes to taking away one star. What also is keeping it from being 5/5 is that the saddles could be a little more rounded off because the low E saddle has it's corner digging into your palm when muting, not painful just uncomfortable. Then finally I needed to add a shim because the angle of the neck was far too steep for me to get the action I wantedRuss

First off I was surprised with the overall quality although the tuners are it's weak point and should probably be changed unless the nut is causing the issue. Everything looks amazing and the sound is very impressive. The alnico neck pickup sounds beautiful. The bridge pickup does what you want to without a problem and overall sounds surprisingly great for rock and metal. The neck is very comfy thanks to those rolled edges and smooth roasted maple satin type finish and makes a big difference in the feel and comfort of the neck. This is a Fender Strat Killer. You get way more for the money and the overall attention to detail you just don't get with Fender unless you do it yourself. A little heavier than I would l would like it but an above average guitar in this price range.Doug

I’ll start with it out of the box. Please keep in mind this isn’t every guitar, just the one I paid for. The set up was pretty dreadful to be honest. I’m not sure if it was set up like that ready to ship, if it was sat in a warehouse like that before hand or if the shipment itself caused the major back bow. In either case, that caused a lot of fret buzz. A simple fix. I can’t fault it for being out of tune out of the box. The finish is great! A lovely, deep red that’s kinda sparkly. Very pretty… Apart from the tone knob which has dug into the guitar causing a scratch in the shape of a ring. The tone knob itself fell off after a day of having it (I think it’s quite funny as that happened to my 2015 ML1 after a few years). I imagine this being another issue caused by shipping. Fairly minor things for a guitar but not what I was expecting from one purchased brand new. I was really looking forward to loving this guitar but it seems somebody somewhere along the way didn’t put the care in to it. Next I want to talk about feel because that’s the thing you can’t understand until you’ve got it in your hands. It’s incredibly resonant and you can feel the guitar vibrate through your hands just like my Korean ML1. The neck is fairly thick, I like that. Some people don’t but that’s not the guitars fault. It feels like the Korean ML1 I mentioned earlier, just a little longer because of the scale length. The neck itself could do with being 5mm wider across to accommodate for the over crowned fret ends, leaving almost no room for the low B string to be fretted. Thus making it far too easy to pull (what would be the high and low E strings) off from the fretboard. I think that may be a flaw in the overall design of this guitar, particularly if you think about the floppiness of the strings even if they weren’t horribly down tuned. The fretboard looks much better in person and feels like an ebony fretboard [insert happy face] The frets are slightly dull and more importantly, heavily over crowned which makes it difficult to play those thick chuggy riffs we all know and love. Functionality: The locking tuners would’ve been a great addition to this guitar if they kept the guitar in tune. I might be going a little hard on this point but staying in tune is a vital part of any guitar and this one isn’t great at keep itself in tune. The pickups are ok, I love the ability to coil split and get some lighter tones out of a guitar. I’ve found myself spending more time with the coil split and it’s lovely. The full humbuckers just don’t have the bollocks they need. I would’ve preferred a HS or HSS set up but that’s a me thing and no fault of the guitar.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

I've had this guitar for about 10 months, and it's great! It's everything you'd come to expect from the ESP LTD line. But the big question is, "How's that bridge?" My motivation for buying this specific guitar was my unending frustration with the floating tremolo on my previous guitar. We started jumping back and forth between standard and dropped D in our set, and making that work with a FR was a nightmare. With that, I had set out on finding a non-FR or fixed bridge, since I rarely used the trem' anyway. I had always wanted an ESP and the idea of each saddle being independent of one another was compelling. It can take a little to get used to, though. Tuning is done at the bridge, and the tension on the strings is adjusted by the tuning pegs. Once the string has the right amount of tension, that saddle will be "activated" in what is referred to as "zone 2". Here, the springs will counter any additional tension applied to that string up to a given point. This means that you cannot do bends or change the pitch in any real or easy way. Some people may like this, but it feels very odd, and the people at Evertune know that most people don't play like this. So, to get the best of both worlds, you will need to apply enough tension on the saddle to bring it right up to the edge of zone 2 by turning the tuning pegs. What I found to be helpful here is to not just listen for the note to change, but to pull on the string and visually inspect movement in the saddle. Once this is set, it feels like a normal guitar with just a tad more tension on the strings. The guitar will come with 10-gauge strings. I gave that a shot for a while. Only recently did I switch them out for some 9s. I think it feels a lot better with a lighter gauge string, especially considering that tad bit of tension. A tip I learned regarding Dropped D was to tune the guitar down by default. Then tune up the low E, which puts that saddle into "zone 3". This is far easier than the reverse and stiJohn Q. The guitar itself seems to be built fairly well, the action seems good on it also. The outer edges of the frets seem a little sharp to me, which can be filed/sanded down to remove that. The guitar was packaged good and no visible damage has been noticed. The thing that I have noticed is, the amp is cheesy and has alot of reverb in it, which can be annoying. The one item that was not included is any documentation on the guitar itself, nothing, nada. I guess they expect people to know what the strings are, how to adjust the tone controls, and care for the item blindly.balance

Very nice guitar and amp. Amp sounds really good for size. Junk the strings and replace. Frets need to have ends sanded off a little. Stick out a little. Annoying. Other than that it sounds great. Very nice finish. I would buy a case if I traveled with it. Bag gives little protection. Its definitely a 4 star guitar combo. Would buy again. The electronic tuner is a good place to get started. On paper, a pink strat style guitar with humbuckers would be the last guitar I'd want to play. However seeing this Charvel Pro-Mod Dk24 on the wall in it's sort of darker pink (burgundy mist) just caught my eye so I played it. I knew I found a real player's guitar. The color grew on me even more and the functionality was great. Humbuckers you can run as single coils with the 5 way switch is very practical. I didn't want to put it down. Super strats have always been very versatile but I've never dreamed of buying one just because I always found the styling to be extreme. However the color is kind of soothing. The neck didn't leave much of an impression but I think that there's something nice about not having to think about the neck. If it works and I don't have to think about it, so be it. Played rock through a little orange amp well yet it also sounded beautiful with a lush clean sound through a Fender Princeton. I think super strat type guitars are starting to come around to the market. Between the Silver Sky the PRS Fiore I think the more mellow color/designs with the versatility they've always had are making super strats more desirable to new guitarists. This one's a great one.G

Just have always assumed, because of the prices, the brand was just a junky starter guitar for kids. I've been playing guitar for over 30 years now, I wasn't even going to lower myself to bother with this "no name" guitar. Then these went on sale. I looked at the features. Set neck, all solid "mahogany" guitar. Alnico pickups, coil tap, locking tuners, even an actual tusq brand nut. I really liked the look of the guitar too. I took a chance. What a great axe! Plays fantastic. Sounds terrific. Looks beautiful. You COULD nit pick a few little finish flaws here and there but for what you get for the price, would be almost criminal. A LOT of guitar for the money. Quite a "Starter Guitar" I WISH starter guitars were this nice when I first started playing. For comparison, My first guitar cost about exactly what this mitchell guitar did, and that's back in the late 1980's. And it was a plywood body, strat copy with a jackson type headstock. Cheaply made basic trem, 3 ceramic single coils, trapezoid junk tuners, super high action, super rough frets. You get the picture. But it was a guitar, and at the time I didn't know any better and I loved it. Looking back, what a piece of junk!! hahahaha. This guitar could EASILY be an experienced player's main guitar and do perfectly fine. It's really that good. At least mine is!Jason

I got this guitar for it's frequently advertised nearly 50% discount. The original finish I ordered was back-ordered. I waited 3 months and when I called, I was told it would be a further 7 months. The salesperson then offered me another colour at the same price and verified some were in stock. This time the guitar arrived quickly. It does have some minor cosmetic flaws, the flame maple binding doesn't meet up near the rear strap button. The jack well is not sanded (very rough wood fibres clear coated over and full of polishing compound), The string ferrules are not evenly set in the back, and there are fibres trapped in the binding at the base of the fret board. It was also clearly a return due to pick marks in the top. Now for the good things about this guitar: The neck is fast, and the guitar is beautiful. It was set up well out of the box, and the frets are fine (need only a minor polish). The pickups are good, the tone control is very responsive, It has coil taps and locking tuners. the nut is well cut. All in all it sounds great! If I'd have paid full price, I'd have returned it for the flaws, but at half price, It's a keeper.Trevor

They never sent a tracking # tho, I had to email them. On unboxing day I was sad to see a generic guitar box- no Mitchell labels. No manual or "case candy" whatsoever. Not even a wrench. Upon a once over I found a big ding in the 2nd fret over the G string, so that playing something like the bend in "Back in Black" was not possible. The guitar was not in new condition which was not cool because I purchased a new guitar. The guitar itself would be pretty nice if it were brand new. It came setup nicely. The fretboard is comfortable and fast. Features like push pull coil splitting and locking tuners don't usually come standard in this price range. The pickups were good enough for a wide range of styles. The toggle switch looks unfinished lacking the poker chip most Les Paul style guitars. The finish on the sunburst model is just ok, not the prettiest I've seen but not ugly either. This will be the 3rd time I've posted a review for this particular guitar. Hopefully it goes through this time though I'm losing faith in Guitar Center all the time.Ethan

Was a bit dubious about Vintage to be honest. I was looking for a tele with maple neck with a 10 or 12” radius. And a satin finish body. Unless you go for the really expensive Fenders, all necks are 7.25 or 9.5. Richard put my mind at ease with the live chat which pops up whilst on the website. So I received the guitar not sure what to expect. I’ve own several Fender Strats and Teles so I can directly compare. The neck feels really good and was pleasantly surprised. One piece maple. I like the satin finish. The aging is silly but I like it. Within an hr I changed the pickguard screws as they looked to big. I then removed the control plate and bridge so I could remove the ridiculous sprayed aged finish. Took 20 minutes. The difference was instant. This was just my personal preference as I’ve aged a number of guitars. I’m not interested in some peoples snobbery with regard to relic guitars. A few visual tweaks and this Tele is as good as any Fender I’ve played. In fact I’d say that concidering Fenders huge range of guitars, they are totally limited to top end spec by never giving neck radius options on Mexican or Squiers. Ignoring the aging this guitar is good enough for beginners or any level. I like relic guitars personally so I’ll be adding my bit over time to make it look more realistic. It’s called character. I’ll be going for the strat next so Richard I hope you can give me a good deal. Lol. So my final thought. If you want a Fender you can’t beat these Vintage models for price. Especially with the set up. And if your really picky you can reshape the headstock which let’s face it, isn’t difficult. I took one star off because it took a little longer to get to me. Not an issue, I’m just impatient. My next guitar will be from Richards guitars.Andrew C.

To be honest I was a bit disappointed when I first saw this guitar. I've never wanted a falsely "relic'ed" guitar but the price Richard offered on this ex-demo item was irresistible. I realise now that it was just the relic look that put me off. As soon as I played this instrument I feel in love with it. The great set up is a big part of it but the tones and the sustain are phenomenal. This is my first Telecaster, my third Vintage brand guitar and my second from Richards Guitars. The very first sound I had it of this was the neck pickup with (I didn't realise at first) the tone control halfway down. Fantastic jazz tone! I won't go on, suffice it to say that this Telecaster-style guitar has all the tonal versatility and no-nonsense playability of a very good Telecaster. In 1973 I bought my first acoustic Epiphone that has a 45mm nut width. My fingers are not big just medium, but any less width and I tend to touch the strings beside the one i want to push down, a little too often. So after 39 years my epiphone needs major reworking that im not in a position to do that just now. I began a search for the same wide nut acoustic for an economic price and took a chance on this Mitchell which compared to others is almost free. I opened it up and inspected it in detail and it was amazingly flawless. Then stretched the strings and tuned it to my boss clip on tuner. Then I lowered the action with the truss rod until it was just right then tuned it again. And its never out of tune any more than the normal shrinkage of the cold nights. Just yesterday my wife walked in as I was playing it and i stopped and said, '' you know i really lucked out on this low price guitar. i can play this at that restaurant if they have live music again. I figured id need to get a more expensive guitar for that next year but this one sounds as good as i could want.'' Thank you Mr. Mitchell for giving us this excellent beautiful guitar.Barry

We now have 3 Sawtooth guitars. We are extremely pleased with all of them. We have an acoustic, electric, and now this beginner's electric guitar pack. Our youngest son won't put this guitar down. The black is a cool see through gloss. You can see the wood grain through the gloss finish. The guitar is of good quality. Much better than I thought it would be.The amp is portable, and can be used for headphones. Take note, that this is an amp that takes batteries (9 volt), or you can get an adapter for it. I went into my local big chain store to buy a jackson dinky and the sales person sold me on this ESP LTD MH-200QM and gave me 15% off msrp and i'm glad he did I love this guitar. the guitar looks grate in black cherry. it has a good solid feel and is fun to play. with a good set of strings it stays in tune. this is a grate affordable guitar. I still consider myself to be a beginner and like to play rock and metal. this guitar will play all styles well but if you like playing rock and metal i highly recommend looking into this guitar. I purchased this guitar when it was $95 off full price. So that kind of makes it a worthwhile purchase. Definitely not worth full price in my opinion. Poorly packed with insufficient padding in the box allowed two of the strings to be bent during shipping. I assume this happened during shipping. They wouldnt send bent strings right? Thankfully they provided back up strings… The nut is very poorly crafted. You can visibly see burrs and imperfections in the nut that cause the strings to ring out of tune on certain parts of the fret board even after tuning. The pick-up selector nob fell right off first time I adjusted it. I will have to glue it myself. When the notes do play out true the triple pick ups sound better than the Peavy beginner guitar I used to have– Which only had two pickups and came in a similar starter package but was about half the price as this guitar. I think if I research how to fix some of the issues I can make it playable. But this guitar is far from playable out of the box. Fairly poor quality control.Cody

I was looking forward to ordering this as my first guitar after taking some classes a couple years back. The shipping was remarkably fast–however, when the product arrived the amp was completely broken. Upon plugging the guitar into the amp and strumming, it would make a horrendous scratching, broken sound. Plucking strings has the exact same effect, and occasionally the amp will cut off after a second of playing. I've tried adjusting the dials, turning overdrive on and off, I even bought a new cord thinking that was the issue to no avail. To make matters worse I have called the customer support number multiple times asking if I could recieve a partial refund, or ship back the amp for a functioning replacement–every time I'm left on hold before the call disconnects, if I can even get through to begin with. The only reason this isn't a one star review is that the guitar itself works fine and looks beautiful! I wouldn't reccomend buying the full set if they don't bother to make sure one of the most essential parts is functioning before shipping however.James B.

I worked outside for my father for a good many weeks while the guitar was on sale, and when I got it, I had mixed emotions. After a few days, the gig bag started to rip and now theres a big hole in it. Its still usable, but it isnt really well made. Also the bag isnt really protective. Its more decorative. The strings on it and the other ones were both junk, my local guitar shop guy told me that himself, but strings are moderately priced, and most of the time they last a while, so thats not much of a deal. The amp is lower end, and the cable that plugs into the amp and the guitar started to show copper wire around 2 weeks after purchase. It still works, but it should have lasted longer. And the stand on the amp didnt hold up at all, the plastic on it broke and now it wont angle so the sound comes at your face. But other than that its a good purchase, i would just suggest to just buy the guitar alone, and buy the amp separately, instead of the kit, but that may get expensive, so check out those options and compare them to this product and decide for yourself. My local guitar shop guy told me that the guitar itself is great quality though, but there are more expensive guitars out there, its a great guitar to start out with. Another side note, not relating to the quality of the guitar, but for beginners, how to learn how to play it fast. I suggest buying Rocksmith 2014 with this for PC, Xbox 360, PS3, PS4, Xbox One and other game consoles. Although it is expensive, the cable that comes with it counts as $20 dollars of it, and it actually surprisingly works! I started playing the game in late june or early july this year and I learned pretty quickly, to the point where I am now thinking about combining lessons and the game together to speed up the learning process even faster. Now it wont turn you into Guns N Roses overnight, but its pretty effective.TheVanillaMiner
