Ibanez 7 String Acoustic Guitar For Sale (2024 Update)

There are hundreds of reviews on this guitar, of course some good and some bad. The good reviews (4-5 stars) far out number the rest. Although I’ve read some really, really bad ones. I suppose every guitar maker churns out a turd on occasion when mass producing affordable beginner (read inexpensive) guitars.
I can only tell you about my particular guitar.
It is fantastic, it’s beautiful, sounds amazing (plugged in and acoustic), plays amazingly well, stays in tune, the tuners are smooth and work as you would expect on a much more expensive guitar. The neck is perfect, the action is great (Martin MA540 Authentic Acoustic Light strings 0.054-0.012). I haven’t a single complaint I can’t say whether the quality has gone up or down in the last few years. Mine is an earlier production model about 10 years old. They’re relatively common , You can find a nice used one locally in most cities for under $150. That way you can play and give it a thorough inspection before you buy it. Check your local Guitar Center, try it, return it if you don’t like it, my bet is you will love it.Larry Daniels

I usually don't leave negative reviews. This guitar is beautiful, it sounds amazing. However, I just can't believe that guitar center would let this be shipped. The neck seems fine but every fret divider is razor sharp. It's so uncomfortable that I have quit playing it. Living in a small town it's very expensive to return stuff, so I guess it will just sit for now. To guitar centers credit, I have shopped there for many years and never been disappointed. But gee guys, why wouldn't you be checking this stuff? If I picked it off your wall I would never buy it unless you fixed it for me. Sorry but this sucksJohn

Tried out two of these at the local store looking for a first guitar for my son. Both sounded pretty good for the price point, but both had problems with the neck and really terrible frets. Terrible like not safe for children or unsuspecting adults – they both had sharp edges sticking out the whole length of the neck. Between that, some minor string buzz, a crazy high 9th fret on one, and iffy intonation on the other, it just didn't seem worth getting either of them. What's the point of getting a low priced guitar if you have to spend $100+ getting it worked over to make it playable? I suspect that the neck binding makes it difficult for the factory to really get the frets properly dressed and still pass cosmetic inspection. It may be I just had the bad luck to find the two worst examples of this model in the same store, but I suggest you move up notch in price range and you will be happier with what you get.triple.ratrider

Overall: Normally I don't write reviews unless I stumble upon something exceptional, and this guitar is no doubt something else. I've been doing research over the past year to find my dream acoustic guitar, something that I'll cherish for a lifetime. I'll start off by sharing that I'm not an Ibanez guy per se, although I am a big fan of their craftsmanship for their electric guitars, I've mostly played HSS Stratocaster's before settling down to my Studio Les Paul. Up until now the only acoustics I've had were beater guitars, with the exception of a Luna Acoustic which was a gift I could never quite take to because of the small neck profile and scale. A few months ago I was lucky to run into an Ibanez AW54 Artwood (non electric, no cutaway) at a local guitar shop and was blown away by the sound and tone, it had the same richness and warmth as a mahogany Martin and Taylor (both cost over a grand) but with way better action and feel. At that moment I was sold. I needed to get the AW54CE.This morning I was pumped to find the guitar arrived after 2 days, free shipping. Even though the temp outside was 40 degrees (big concern), the guitar was well-packaged and insulated. Taking it out of the box I felt like a kid on Christmas. The pictures you'll find floating around the internet don't do this thing justice. Not one flaw or blemish anywhere to be found. And the one thing that shocked me the most, the neck and bridge needed absolutely zero adjustment. The action was flawless! There was already a battery inside, so after an hour of letting it acclimate, I just tuned it up and was absolutely floored by the tone. Holy crap. I still can't believe I can rip on this thing like my Les Paul, with no action set up whatsoever! I'm now sold on Ibanez products. The craftsmanship between the setup, the bridge, the special pins, tuning heads, attention to detail with the neck, I could go on forever. But I'll leave you with this. If you're in the market to drop a couple hundred on an acoustic, and you want QUALITY that will hopefully last you a lifetime, look no further. This is the guitar you've been dreaming of.Christopher

Having played bass for 28 years I never thought I'd actually enjoy playing an acoustic guitar. I grabbed this as a barley used guitar for my daughters to learn on. Even if they don't follow through and get tired of it, I'll keep it for myself. The wood and finish are what caught my eye, as the mahogany and ovangkol match my 1206E nicely. But I was blown away when I realized how good it sounded both unplugged and amplified. Aside from a minor cosmetic issue (glue in center of book matched top seam) it was WELL worth the price they were giving away this used acoustic. It still had the pickguard wrap on it! I can't wait to reveal it to the girls for Christmas. A beautiful sounding piece of eye candy. As long as I don't ever need the two-year protection plan, I think this might be the second best guitar investment I've ever made.Matthew

This guitar is actually solid. After getting it setup with a bone saddle and bone nut, it sings. The frets were perfect polished and the intonation was spot on. The neck did require less relief, but who cares. That's a simple job. Amazing playability, and once you swap that plastic crap out for bone, I don't know you'd be able to find an acoustic this cheap that plays like this one does.Don

Being a guitarist since 12 I've always had a hard time playing acoustic. Since I've always played electric guitar. Low and behold the Alt30 came into my life! And this guitar has changed everything! This guitar not only looks incredible, but it is so Wonderful…the first time I picked it up I knew…ordered from Musicians Friend, it came packaged perfectly and with no flaws….I didn't know if I would like the sound hole being oblong shaped vs. oval…but I do!!! This is my fourth guitar and the least expensive one I own yet it stand up to much more expensive ones well. I love the feel and the sound and it looks great. I bought it mainly as an acoustic to just play with but plugged in it sounds much better than I expected. Great buySam

Im very pleased with my purchase. Ive been playing for years, ive played hundreds of guitars but this one is the one. It has tone, it stays in tune, the intonation is great, my hand slides nice on it, great harmonics, the fret board is straight , not twisted or bowed in anyway. The cords are crisp. An experienced player friend of mine stated it was a great sounding easy to play practice guitar. Not so pricey that you are nervous to travel with and is a beautiful guitar. I really found no cons for the price of this guitar.Dan S

Great looking, well built, excellent sounding guitar! The workmanship is high-end and the loud sound is what you would expect from an acoustic guitar without a cut-out. I found no imperfection in the stain, shape, or assembly. Everything has been well done. Just an observation, the nut and saddle sat a little high, so some adjustments had to be made. However, adjusting the saddle is typical for a new guitar since each player has personal preference for string height. Even if the guitar is in tune, it may not sound right if the saddle and nut are too high. The sound changes significantly if the strings have to press down too far down to the frets. Sanding the saddle and filing the nut to the right measurements has made this guitar something to keep for many years.Benneth01

Not bad, I bought it for my daughters first guitar. I'm thinking about getting one for myself. I put new strings on it when it arrived , strings from the factory were damaged, not a problem I planned on this anyway. No fret buzz, stays in tune, descent string height on neck, sounds good.Slim jim

Love it. This thing feels really nice out of the box though it would definitely benefit from a good setup. The size makes it really comfortable to play at home on the lounge and holy balls that bevel on the lower bout should be mandatory on all acoustics because it makes it soooo much more comfortable. The smaller neck obviously puts the strings closer together which I imagine would make it more difficult to play if you have larger hands but I have small hands and find it isn't small enough to make it difficult at all. Sounds like a guitar that is a lot more expensive than it is and has a surprising amount of bottom end and volume for its size. I really just have nothing negative to say except I wish it came with a pickup because I would have no qualms with gigging with this little monster, but that's asking a lot for the price.plsbuymystuff

I wanted a smaller acoustic electric thats a little better than a starter guitar, something I could enjoy as my skills grow, and keep for years; something I can play by the campfire on weekend trips and not worry about having to pamper it. I read many, many reviews and listened to experts on YouTube play and compare. I bought this Ibanez and have been really pleased. All the reviews were on target and there were no surprises. The factory strings arent terrific but deliver a decent sound; there is no manual or even a gig case that comes with the guitar, but I found the perfect sized used hard case on Letgo for $20 and a used starter amp as well. I am all set up for under $360. Dont spend good $ on new cases and accessories. There is a huge local market to tap into through Letgo and OfferUp. I didnt want to buy the guitar used since Im still a beginner and wanted to play right away and be able to return if not satisfied. I think I made a good choice. The sound is good, better than expected for a thin instrument on the non-amplified setting, and think it will only improve with usage and better strings, which is what many experts say. Amplified, the sound is crisp, clear and delivers as promised. Its a lovely guitar; the dark finish is deep and beautiful, not atall a factory look like the ubiquitous blonde Yamaha starter guitar of my youth. I am not crazy about the gold-look hardware, which I think cheapens the otherwise excellent quality of the build… but that can be upgraded to chrome if I still dislike it next year. (Ill make it a goal reward for myself when I reach my next skill level). I noticed, while shopping for this guitar, that there are a number of very similar models out there. Most were more expensive, with different woods and very subtle differences. But, what kept me coming back to the Ibanez was the sound plugged in. Nothing else, regardless of cost, sounded as realistic as this does. I wanted a guitar that sounded "classical" amplified. and this did just that. Throw in the excellent fit and finish, this thing is beautiful, and you have a winner all the way around.D.Munson

Light weight guitar that sounds pretty darn good with an amp. It boasts a rich beautiful color in the light with really nice detail. Pretty decent sound for a streamline guitar. Your not going to get a deep sound but this a great piece to travel and practice with. Having a built in tuner is awesome! Also has bass and treble controls. I hooked it up to my home stereo through the stereo's amp and it really sounded sweet. I would highly recommend this guitar for anyone at this great price!TRACY

Overall: I read some of these negative reviews and can't understand what they're talking about. This guitar is probably the best guitar for $200 I ever played , right out of the box it was setup perfectly. All I did was tune it , I've even got the same strings it came with. Which I normally change whenever I get a new guitar. The tuners are unbelievably tight , this guitar barely goes out of tune even if it has been sitting for weeks. Also I never attached the whammy bar , so I can't speak on that throwing it out of tune. Since I have over a dozen guitars I don't usually play it daily , but when I do it always makes me glad I purchased it. This is a very versatile guitar , I play mostly metal and this thing shreds. But I also play blues and it sounds just as good as my custom strat. I bought an Epiphone SG special in the same price range and let's just say the setup is night and day , the tuners absolutely sucked , "already replaced them" and the intonation was off. It was a mess , I've already put it on Craig's list and bought a G400 Pro instead , 10x better quality and setup , but I digress. I've got many high priced guitars but always go back to the GRX , the playability and neck feels so comfortable to play. The only thing I'm going to do eventually is throw in a Seymour Duncan humbucker and I'm definitely keeping this guitar. I don't know how Ibanez can sell this for $200 and keep the quality , but I'm certainly not going to complain. Whether you're a beginner or experienced this guitar delivers. Definitely will be purchasing another Ibanez down the road.Mike

I read a lot of reviews on this guitar before purchasing. Most common complaints revolved around tuning stability. I was expecting mine to go out of tune every 2 minutes. Not my experience at all. It seems to be strung with 10's, and holds tuning very well. Pick ups sound warm and tight. When I eventually upgrade I'll probably do the nut and tuners, but those are by no means urgent. There are so minor finish flaws, but i bought this guitar to play, not to stare at it. For less than £200, you really can't go wrong. Delivery was on time and without hassle.Ben A.

Sound: Does not have the cleanest sound due to the picks. Putting the right pedals and effects in line and cranking up the distortion makes it an awesome beginner / intermediate metal guitar. Features: For the price the materials feel great. Ease of Use: It sounds great on my Fender Champion 20 or Positive Grid Spark amp. Not the cleanest tone but a great metal sound and extremely easy to play. Quality: It feels made well, especially in the $200 range. I feel like this is one I'll have for years and once I get better definitely see this is a good platform for future mods. Value: This guitar is excellent value and at this price an amazing guitar. Manufacturer Support: I have not dealt with Ibanez. The Wow Factor: I must admit the aesthetic. It's extremely hard to find good looking purple color-based guitars. If I could dream up what I want a guitar to look like this is it. It helps that its quality is awesome. Overall: I love this guitar. Purple is my favorite color and a hard one to find good guitars in. It looks great. It feels great and I have yet to find any significant issues with it. No problems with the frets or fret buzz. Action is easy and low. It sounds great with my Positive Grid Spark amp. The pickups sound great. The HSH setup is very versatile. Not the greatest with clean tones like my Stratocaster, but amazing with the right effects.Josh

As I transitioned from my first guitar to this one, I found it to be so comfortable. As I do not use much, if any, amplification, it is nice for large rooms like church buildings or recitals. The tuners (particularly the low E) have withstood routine changes to drop D a few times while playing, without obvious sign of wear. When I first started gigging I used another great sounding guitar but then changed to the Ibanez to protect the other(s) from bumps, weather, people, and other hazards. I have owned this Guitar for almost 2 years and I was very impressed with the finish on this Guitar the moment I took it out of the box. The gig bag and other accessories that come with this Guitar make it an exceptional value. I knew Nothing about Guitars when I bought it and All of my seasoned Guitar playing friends have played it and everyone has commented how nice it plays and sounds. I couldn't be happier. The tuner that came with it bit the dust within a few months and was really finicky when tuning the A string but I went and got the SNARK tuner and its been awesome.Pete

a lot of brands come with these starter kits that offer most of the accessories required to start playing..but its Ibanez that I chose because of its brand value and good reviews. the product was delivered within a few days and was packed well. The package also includes an electronic tuner for fast and accurate tuning, a gig bag, a guitar strap and a pouch for accessories. the guitar itself which obviously is the main product offers excellent value for money and has a great tone and feel which has kept me playing it for a few hours daily as I enjoy practicing on it.Varun R.

I dont often review products I buy on eBay and I buy things on here every month. I have never heard of this Parlor Style until recently and I Started playing heavily before the Internet was really a thing so maybe thats why because I just stumbled across them accidentally. I wouldve bought one of these a long time ago if I knew they existed and its budget price absolutely dirt cheap, for an extremely premium guitar and Im not exaggerating this in any way. The smaller size of everything makes it so its not work to play it, plus its got a really Unique set of sounds that Ive never really heard from another acoustic. The great low price on top of the quality, it feels like this guitar is built more solid then the typical Dreadnought and it was delivered like two or three days earlier than it was supposed to and Im going to definitely get another guitar soon. I like the smaller body styles now that Ive kind of discovered them I want to look into owning some. Im going to hopefully go through the same seller. I had some questions and they were very prompt in responding they had good customer service and I look forward to working with the seller again and I highly recommend this seller and this instrument, weather your a pro or beginner and anything in between its an amazing guitar Id give it 10 stars if I could!!! I bought this guitar for taking on road trips to save space primarily for family sing-alongs and practicing. Obviously, I didn't expect it to have as deep and rich a tone as a dreadnaught, but the tone does seem a little "tinny," which may just be an artifact of the small sound box. Fine for small venues or practice. The finish around the sound hole was a little rough, but otherwise the finish was very nice and smooth with a high gloss finish. Once it was acclimated to the temperature and humidity in my home, it stayed in tune. No problems "out of the box" with string-to-fretboard spacing and no luthier adjustment was needed.The Professor

for the money and the price it is a gr8 couch guitar. run some scales, practice some chords or just play them. it has good playability and action. the tone of the sound is good for this price range & one could say, not bad in general. only critique is that the g,b & e strings sound a bit thin. the other ones are fine. very happy with the guitar for a cheap, more then decent couch ax. oh, gr8 inlay & binding went into the guitar as well.prestame

I hate to be negative but….Here we go. I love the electronics (SST Technology) on some of the Ibanez brand Acoustic Guitars because it eliminates the need for an EQ and delivers a fuller, fatter sound than most acoustic guitars. That being said, I have to be able to play it first and foremost. Upon receiving the well packed and shipped guitar, I took it out of the box and fretted a Gadd9 and noticed a disastrous buzz on the high E at the 3rd Fret. Figured it just needs a set up and took it to my guitar guy who told me after adjusting the truss rod with no fix that the fret would probably have to be filed. This is a brand new guitar, the frets shouldn't need to be filed out of the box. American Musical was very helpful w/ trying to expedite me one last minute for Monday on a Friday afternoon (since I have to play on Monday) but we'll see what happens. This is the 2nd Ibanez Guitar in 3 months that I went through this with. I'm slowly getting turned off.JR Huffsmith

I got this as my first real guitar. It's an amazing guitar, the sound is really nice, more of a soft tone for finger picking. Plugged in it sounds pretty nice, I like the options with the fishman preamp. The tuner works pretty well. Now for complaints, it came in a brown color, which I didn't mind, the tuner for the G string is suuuuuupppper hard to turn, either it's too tight to turn, or way too loose, when I first got it it had an awful buzz, but when I got it in tune and played it some it sounded fine. I am very happy with this purchase! It was sold as a factory second because of a minor flaw with the finish. To actually see the "flaw" you need to angle it just right in the light. It is NOT seen without close inspection. The pictures are not of good quality (they look splotchy). It is nice and easy to play as the strings are close to the neck (as I have seen with other Ibanz guitars). It sounded very good and I got compliments when I played it for a worship service. I had priced this exact model at musiciansfriend and it was $100 more expensive (with free shipping). So this is a very nice sounding, good looking guitar for a good price! I was looking for a travel guitar that sounded half way decent. I saw the Ibanez and checked out some clips on You Tube of folks playing it. Sounded pretty good. The thing is well built, has clean bracing and a rosewood neck and bridge. One piece back with false center purfling (painted on). Bound top and bottom. Ogonkol wood, likely a laminate. But pretty darn decent tone and sustain. Mine came with very low action, and very light gauge strings. So I plan to shim the bridge saddle. Likely not capable of handling strings of anything but a light gauge. Tuners are OK, some have reported trouble with them. But that is probably more to do with string gauge than the mechanics. The neck is small for those who have played a full size guitar and are now switching. I play mandolin, too. So its an easy change to this size of neck. Tuned a fourth up from standard, and as was pointed out previously, essentially a requinto tuning. Overall as very decent little travel instrument for an extremely reasonable price. I was looking for a tiny guitar because of pain in my right shoulder even from playing my Taylor GS Mini guitar. I chose this instrument because it's so small, I like the sound of steel strings, my fingers on the left hand are already calloused, and especially because the neck is much more narrow than that of the many nylon string models – less cause for pain in the left hand. At first, the neck was so narrow that I couldn't fit my fingers to form chords and thought I'd have to return it. With continued practice, however, it became easy to play. Now, it's so much fun to play, I can't stop. I thought I'd retune it to E to E like a guitar because it would be too much trouble to transpose all my songs to a different key, also that it would be too hard to play with other people. Now I realize, it's no big deal. If, for example, they play in C, I play in G, always 5 notes up. I've fallen in love with the unique sound – sort of like an autoharp or banjo. The people that I play guitar with love that it adds another quality of sound. It's not just another guitar. It's also a pretty little instrument. I highly recommend it.jeannie7is

This thing is really excellent. I was totally surprised at how much I liked it, given my bad experience with the EP9. I loved the EP7, but had to part with it. This is my favorite of the three, with one exception: The strong paint smell, which I have noticed on several Chinese guitars lately. Well, if the guitar is going to kill me with chemicals, then at least I'll enjoy the heck out of playing it. (My EP7 smelled really good… kind of like a cedar chest, Don't know if it was because of the guitar or the previous owner, but a smelly guitar can be a buzz kill… or in the case of the EP10, practically give you a buzz! I'm sure that the smell will eventually go away, which is why I am still giving it 5 stars.John

Overall: My Ibanez EP5 Steve Vai Acoustic Guitar, is my first grab when jamming or writing. I've played simultaneously against 3 other acoustics with larger bodies and the tone & projection cuts though with clarity. Unplugged you will not get a big boom bass, but solos come through loud & clear. This guitar replaced an Ovation which was much louder but not as bright. The thin line body is very comfortable and neck perfect for fast solos. It is an incredible value for the price. The black finish shows wear easy. I take it to beach parties and events without a case and does not need to be babied.Louis
