Reviews:
This is a clone of a popular Boss pedal, and it succeeds in replicating the Boss' performance. It is 1/3 the cost of the Boss. Behringer has "copied" many name brand pedals, undercutting their high prices too. They are a German company with a huge music equipment production Chinese factory integrated 'city' that they manage. The engineering is German. Assembly is in China. I don't know where Boss is assembled. Aside: I also have a small Behringer amp that rivals a particular Fender in every way. (I really like Fenders, btw). It's a copy of sorts, but with simulated vacuum tube solid state circuitry. It also sports a 2" larger speaker – a Bugera. This noise reduction pedal's guts are encased in a heavy plastic box. It looks/feels like it will take normal to harsh treatment without any ill effects. Throwing it hard against a wall might dislodge something, of course!vancegarfish
use this behind a high gain distortion to quiet the juicy bits in between your licks. it performed as well as the more expensive 'pig' pedal, so i went with this one. however, i would not recommend this for gigs, the low build quality won't take much abuse. those with busy logistics will be happier with a better, more expensive, rack-mounted solution. remember to read up on how the pros sculpt their sound and don't forget how useful a simple eq can be. 😉R Phillips
This is a great pedal for the price and it does what it was designed for! I was kind of skeptical about buying a product from a brand that gets a lot of bad rep on many reviews I have read about this pedal and a few other products from this brand, but it turns out those rumors aren't so true about this pedal giving them more feed back than what it can take away. It worked just fine for me after having some experience with some noise compressor a while back I had this thing set up and ready to play. I guess those critics of this pedal must not know how to set up a pedal or they have bad luck with getting bad gear. It's a little heavy for plastic, but that's why I don't recommend that you stomp on this pedal. All you have to do is press on it to turn it on and leave it on until you're finished playing. Over all I am proud I've purchased this, quiets my distortion that fizzes on my amp, but it's not to be used on the clean channel. The pedal is supposed to lower noise which the clean channel doesn't have. Thank Behringer!Berry

Reviews:
I should start by telling you all that i play modern metal, not classic rock or anything close. I bought this pedal a few years back hoping to squash out the hiss in my amp due to my use of an overdrive in front of the amp.I used it in front of my amp with a ts9 in its little effects loop. it was very difficult to get the start-stop quick djent style stuff i wanted without a feedback remnant always cutting in. also, there was a noticable amount of cut on any palm-muted notes and really any note played would not sustain naturally. any setting on the decay would not help. but, i had to have the threshold up pretty high to knock out the hiss. you must also know that i am using a horrific amount of gain with a 6505+. I have the post gain maxed out and most other things maxed out as well. After much research and saving, i invested in the isp decimater g-string. this product was on a whole other level. the things that the ns-2 lacked this thing just has. It senses when you are playing, instead of opening a gate when you play loud enough. Even with my extreme gain settings, overdrive in front, booster in the effects loop, and volume all the way up on my guitar, i can start-stop all day long just like periphery and animals as leaders. plus, my palm muted notes fade naturally as do normally fretted notes. Another thing i have recently learned is that the ns-2 manufacturing process uses lead free solder, whereas the ns-1 has lead based solder. This resulted in a big difference in signal integrity, and is very evident if you leave the pedal on bypass and play something, then removeit from the chain, and play something. it darkens the tone alot. In conclusion, if you want play the new styles of metal with all the gain and start-stop, buy the isp decimater g-string or pro rack g.MTloveit
This is a must have if you have a multitude of effects esp. overdrives, distortions at high gains and volume. Any nuance of movement on a string and the cats are climbing the curtains and your pissing off your neighbors 🙂 BUT! with this suppressor your sloppy metal play is crisp and tight full of clarity and your sound is cleaned up. Must have for overdriven metal heads…Azuljay
It's a huge compliment to any pedal board. If your tired of excessive hum, buzzing or just white noise especially when using multiple pedals on a pedal board this is the solution. I mated mine with a BOSS LS-2 Line Selector pedal at the start of my pedal chain so every pedal is covered by it. It allows instant quiet after quick aggressive picking starts and stops while using heavy distortion. It's a "Fire and Forget" pedal for the most part if your running the same gear regularly. It's a must have if you want clarity and certainly worth the space it takes up on your board. It's the magic behind the curtain.kt.precisio-7

All in all a solid bigmuff clone in small package. The tone knob is nice, you can sculpt a grainy treble or just a nice full warm fuzz, I lean towards the middle. I combined this with a golden horseman that has its gain up too, and it creates a nice doomy stoner sound. So for what it does, the price, and amount of space on a pedal board that this takes up this pedal on point.kulturv-13

11. Rocktron Guitar Silencer Noise Reduction Effects Pedal
Product Details:
Now you can achieve noise exterminating bliss with rocktron's guitar silencer stompbox that combines patented hush noise-reduction technology with a noise-gating process. this combination of two noise eliminators creates one effective noise-killing device. no matter what style of playing you do, from pop to metalhead madness, the guitar silencer is your swiss army knife for wiping out hiss and silencing awkward changes in your music. the guitar silencer allows you to go from heavy, all-out distortion to complete silence by muting your guitar strings. all without changing your tone one bit. there are times when your music calls for single-ended noise reduction; that softer version of noise elimination that allows your sustain to ring out unaffected, while getting rid of creeping hiss and circuit noise. that is what rocktron's patented hush does so well. then there are times when you want hard noise-gating to chop the ends of your notes while achieving instant noise kill, first achieved in metal by dimebag darrell with the original, rackmount guitar silencer. this stompbox version provides both of these noise-reducing methods in one simple pedal that takes up minimal space on your pedal board. part of the rocktron boutique series of stomp boxes, the guitar silencer comes in a rugged metal chassis with eye-popping, retro, custom-designed laser-etched artwork. true bypass, and as a bonus, you can use it to add true bypass to your favorite distortion pedal using the send/return jacks. controls for the guitar silencer include gate, which is the threshold at which the noise gate portion of the effect will clamp to silence. the hush control determines the threshold of the noise floor you want the hush portion of the effect to reduce. an active led lights up when the gate threshold has been met. the guitar silencer runs on a 9v alkaline battery, or with the optional rocktron dc on tap universal power adapter (product #158004).

This replaced a Boss NS-2 I have had for decades. I like the fact that it has Hush noise reduction as one knob, and a gate as the other. With both of these features it is more useful than the Boss. It is true bypass, and I heard (but did not verify) that Bob Bradshaw has used this pedal on pro boards he has built. it does everything it is supposed to do, and sounds (or doesn't sound!) great.betz7777
I've been trying out different noise suppressors and gates since I finally decided to stop sacrificing tone for quiet operation. I was leery of this particular Rocktron noise reduction product because of a paucity of reviews of it wherever it's sold. But the combination of hush and gate in a stomp box was irresistible. I have not been disappointed! I run it through my effects loop before the reverb and delays. I set the hush just enough to reduce major hiss and hum (too much hush results in a volume drop). Then I set the gate. The gate is exceptional; it neither chokes off the signal nor allows much incidental activity through. I now have a quiet rig with the tone I desire. The hush even cleans up my playing by dampening high frequency finger and palm and pick swipes. And because of the efficiency of the gate, only what I want to resonate and repeat gets into the reverb and delay units. I play late 1960s-early 1970s psychedelic and heavy blues rock primarily (e.g. Pink Floyd, Robin Trower, Jimi Hendrix, Frank Marino), but also early Black Sabbath. I highly recommend this product.PsychedelicDrifter
Have always ran the old original rack mount guitar silencer from the 80's. No difference between the two performance wise. The pedal version is much more versatile with the additional isolation abilities, plus being on the pedal board is nice to say the least. Why it needs a bypass button is beyond me, but, whatever. It's a great unit and a must have.Jackhammer

I have owned one of thses for like 10 years or more and works wonders if you set it up right. I have the old 2 threshold model. if The broke I would buy 2 of these. First thise thing goes after the distortion and noise making pedals and eq. Then to effects like delay and chorus reverb because if the hush is after it will chop off the lower volume modulation effects they create. Also should be in the effects loop becasue it does take the hum out of your amp. I had this in the effects look of my marshall solid state head similar to the mg series out now. It totally cleaned up the hum in the overdrive channels then the second threshold on the old one can be set lower for clean channels that still hum. Another wonderous items that i have the works great in conjunction with this is my Voodoo Lab Pedal Power conditioned power supply to run this and all of the other effects more silently using a regulated power supply.92PRSCE24
I had chosen to Buy a Hush noise suppressor because of a single coil guitar rig I was using for the current band I was in. Due to the nature of the music we were playing, I decided that a little less "hum" in my signal would be helpful during the quieter parts of the music. I had heard good things about the Rocktron Hush pedal, so I had decided to give it a whirl. My overall opinion is that it is a great pedal whenever extreme cases of hum threaten to destroy your sound. If you have an atypical type of single coil rig, the effects of the pedal are not worth the amount of tone coloration that occur whenever the pedal is activated. I was slightly unhappy with my tone when used. I had found that I had to turn the threshold up significantly to get the desired results, and in doing so it effected the sound of the attack on the strings – that's not to say that it doesn't have it's applications (high gain distortion settings – noisy effects in your signal chain). I'm happy that I have the pedal (as I'm sure it will get it's use from time to time), but it is not a regular part of my chain of pedals. I would be cautious in recommending this pedal to someone who is only slightly unhappy with the amount of "hum" in their signal.sotakethisring
I wanted something to quiet down my guitar rig when using a couple of distortion pedals, or fuzz, with the amp fairly loud. It does the trick very well! One should turn the threshold knob from left to right just enough to get rid of your hum and hiss. It is a gate, and gates, reverb and compression should be used just enough to do the job, and no more – unless you want an unnatural sound as an effect.Keyboard-Sax -Guitar Player
13. Rocktron Microhush Guitar Noise Reduction Pedal
Product Details:
With pedal board space at a premium these days, and smaller pedals in demand, rocktron is pleased to provide the microhush to wipe out hiss, unwanted feedback and pickup buzz by providing up to 65db of signal cleanup, while maintaining your music signal integrity. guitar player magazine wrote that a "hush pedal will work for all guitar-related noise problems: it's perfect" and "its potent noise-killing abilities will be fully appreciated." rocktron's microhush pedal is built into a compact yet rugged chassis, minimizing the footprint it has on your pedal board. the microhush is a true bypass pedal; when you turn it off, it is out of your signal path! plug the microhush in after distortion boxes, wahs, noisy vintage effects, or other noisy units and turn the threshold control knob until the noise goes away. it's that easy! unlike noise "gates" that chop off the end of your notes, or ruin your sustain, the microhush (and other rocktron hush products) are actually a form of single-ended noise reduction that tracks your signal all the way and pushes the noise floor down below the point where your ear can hear the noise. the microhush will not alter your sustain or chop the end of your notes. simply use the threshold knob to smooth out your signal while saying goodbye to noise forever! the microhush does not eliminate 60 cycle ground loop hum. the microhush requires a 9v dc power source (sold separately).

Reviews:
Mine came from a friend who was moving away from pedals and effects and switching to a digital rig. I've used it for some time and it has pretty much been always on for my playing with the exception of clean tones. Anything with gain this thing is turned on and for the years I have used it is has been dependable and reliable. Here comes the main issue. It sucks tone like a vampire. I didn't notice it until one night I was lazy and plugged directly into my amp instead of through my board. I was amazed at the clarity and responsiveness of my guitar which even with old strings sounded clear and articulate again. For a while I thought the culprit was my preamp needing new tubes or something. My attention shifted to the volume pedal I added to my board and how they can sap into your high end so I began a quest to try and find a better volume. I borrowed a friends volume and in playing with it decided to do the unthinkable which was touch the gate that had always been on and adjust it a bit. I came to the same conclusion others have. Under 12 O clock you get less tone suck and it mitigates some noise. Above 12 o clock and you're rig is dead quiet but you high end is gone. I found a sweet spot which seems to work for my sound and overall I am happy with it, just not ecstatic. It's better than not having one and dealing with feedback and when I am using a ton of gain pedals it does a good job of keeping them from screeching when I am not playing but I still have some hiss. I may upgrade it later to a TC electronic Sentry right a gate that allows you to have a second loop.Deepstaria
First off the instructions are not the best for this pedal. But at the same time, 5 minutes with this thing and I can see why they didn't write detailed instructions. I plugged it in as the first pedal in the chain. So I have the MXR M-135,an MXR ZW-44, volume at 10, tone 50%, gain 0 to about 3 going into a Blackstar HT-5H with the gain at about 90% into a Randall 2×12 loaded with the Eminence Patriot Swamp Thang and Eminence Patriot Texas Heat. So my home rig is pretty loud and noisy. Prior to the M-135 this thing made more noise than two skeletons fighting on a tin roof. Every time I'd stop playing all you could hear was me trying to not move my hand on the strings unless I kept my pick hand completely still. So I set the gate to full and the Trigger Level to zero with the Hi Trigger Range in the up position and that was it. I did not try in on the hiss mid yet, but that's not what I bought it for complete silence and that's exactly what I got. Now the little rubber thing I presume is for the knob, since that's what if fit on, but inless you want to fight with it for about 20 minutes to get it back off, don't mess with it. To be honest, if I could get one of these for my dog I would! Great pedal for the money and does what it advertises.sevenstring revenge
After having an Engl Ironball for about a month, I decided it was time for a noise gate. This thing works as advertised, that in itself is high praise. Engls can be a bit noisy with such high gain (anywhere from 10:00+ on lead gain channel), but with the Smart Gate I can dime the gain and set the gate to around 10:00 and it clamps down on nearly 100% of the hiss. My only complaint, and it is minor, is that it can be a tone suck on higher settings. If you can turn it on and off with your gain/lead/distortion, it won't affect you one bit. TL;DR If you have a noisy amp or distortion pedal. This will save your life, I guarantee it.
16. Isp Technologies – Decimator G-String Pedal Ii Noise Reduction
Product Details:
This pedal follows the signal directly from the guitar, allowing you to switch from clean to high gain sound without changing the threshold setting. its new design allows you to plug your pedal into an effects loop or after your high gain pedal or preamp. thanks to a mini-jack you can chain 2 decimator pedals (whether ii or ii g string) to obtain 2 noise reduction channels or for a stereo system. this connection allows each pedal to directly follow the instrument like the brand's rack versions. the decimator g string provides a fully independent decimator noise reduction channel that can be inserted into an effects loop in series or after a preamp section, the advantage being that the decimator's level meters will follow the signal. directly. with the g string pedal you can adjust the threshold of the reducer and whatever the noise level the decimator will follow it without any problem. thanks to its complete transparency, you won't have to worry about the threshold being too high or having to turn off the decimator when you go from a high gain guitar sound to a clear sound. it offers an input to connect a guitar directly and a buffer output that can be plugged directly into your amp, as well as a second processed audio output as well. you can connect other pedals between the output of the decimator and the input of your amp, this allows the g string to remove any unwanted noise you may have, even with overdrive pedals located before your amp.

18. Rocktron Reaction Hush Noise Reduction Pedal
Product Details:
Noise reduction effect pedal for electric guitar from reaction series that, when used correctly, will wipe out hiss, unwanted feedback and pickup buzz. it delivers 65db of signal cleanup, while the music signal integrity remains unaffected. unlike noise ''gates'' that chop off the end of the notes, or ruin the sustain, this pedal is actually a form of single-ended noise reduction that tracks the signal all the way and pushes the noise floor down below the point where the ear can hear the noise. the threshold knob can be simply used to smooth out the signal. for maximum noise reduction results, place the pedal after the distortion and modulation effects (chorus, flanger, phaser, etc.) but before any delay or reverb effects. the footswitch on the pedal controls on/off status as shown by the led indicator. this unit features a rugged metal slim form factor chassis and runs on a 9v alkaline battery, or may also be powered by rocktron’s dc ontap universal power supply adaptor. it is also a true bypass pedal. dimensions: 125 x 78 x 61 mm. weight: 0.7 kg.

I have this pedal located in the effects loop of my amp. If you have it located before the amp input, it'll do a great job decreasing the noise generated by your guitar & pedals but will not stop the noise your amp makes. The amp's effect loop (if you have one) is the best way to place this pedal as far downstream as possible. In my setup, delay and reverb occur AFTER the noise reduction, which is generally recommended.I am very happy with this pedal. With my particular setup, I have to turn up the threshold almost all the way in order get sufficient noise reduction, but it works perfectly. I highly recommend it.gravydb

I bought this pedal on a gamble because I like tc electronics ditto looper and wanted to get away from the boss ns I have on my other pedal board. For half the cost of your standard this baby get the job done and I have a fairly complicated setup! It's very responsive and is easy to assess adjustments so your suppressor doesn't deter your notes. The only drawback is it is a little larger than your standard pedal, about the size of a deluxe mxr. But I think the bulk and the name make it retro, so I like it! If you want an excellent noise suppressor on a budget, get this! Five stars!Erik
The Iron Curtain works as intended and lets me come right to the edge of overloading the front end of my amp with overdrive boots pedals without all the noise and feedback. That said i don't believe any pedal of this kind is a cure-all. you still may have to cut the gain down on your pedals quite a bit if you are running a high gain amp to not get the hiss and distortion.supermanny
I bought this to quiet my Mesa Boogie Nomad 100 amplifier. It does a great job and pleased that it was an affordable pedal that is built like a tank. It is a simple Noise Gate, no loop involved. Input and Output jacks are on top! Great color and design. More affordable than the TC Electronics SENTRY. That pedal is more advanced in comparison. I like the larger knobs and the simplicity of the overall design. It is built like a tank.jrp3mc

This pedal is a great buy, specially if having a noisy pedal set up, it cuts decibels so no hissing nose is heard when not playing, or when set up to almost have the gate close all the time might act as a sound suppressor, but there is one thing that I haven't figure out yet, when opening the gate is makes a click sound specialy with the B string of my Bass, there must be a way to solve this so ill keep playing with it.jaimesilva_076
