I've read other reviews and I understand why a lot of people gave this pedal a poor one. If a pedal says it can do 3 things, it should. Unfortunately, that's not the case. However… it does do ONE thing really, really well. If you're looking for a Chorus effect, the "detune" setting is better than any other Chorus I've tried. I even put it up against the Boss PS-6 and the Mooer sounded better. The Boss sounds very digital and thin. The Mooer sounds analog, rich and fat. I can hear a lot more definition on each string. I'm SUPER picky about sound so this pedal really shocked me for the "detune" setting. I agree the other settings are total garbage so I don't use it for anything else.Kova
I've had the Pitchbox for a few months now and really like it. My review is actually a 4.5 star review, but since you can't do that, I had to put 4. The only thing that takes off the half is the cons I listed above, but they're all minor/reasonable. It does have a little learning curve so you can see what each interval sounds like and how to get the sounds you want. It does glitch every so often, but that happens to any octave effect. I'm still awaiting a perfectly polyphonic octave effect, but I digress. And lastly, EXP capabilities would truly make this a 5 star pedal, but I know that it's a ridiculous request for this type of pedal. This is a SMALL pedal. And that's what I love about it. My pedalboard welcomes it, it sounds very good, the tracking is pretty darn great, and its one of the cheapest pedals of this particular effect. Great pedal, will be looking into more Mooers!NSIL
Not a horrible product IMO. The detune gives a nice chorus effect. I thought the pitch shift was great for dropping or raising your tuning with ease. If those two things were all I wanted it for, I would've kept it. However, I bought mainly it for the Harmony function. Not so great there. Most of the time you feel like there is another guitarist with you that just can't keep his guitar in tune…very annoying. I wanted the Boston, Thin Lizzy, Saxon harmony sound. This pedal won't quite do that like I thought it would, so I decided to return this and go with an intelligent harmony instead by ordering a Boss PS-6. Should've just done that in the first place.MC

I am really impressed with the Behringer VT999. I own one of the original Tube Works BK Butler designed Real Tube Overdrives. For the last 30 years it has been the Standard by which I judge all overdrive effects and I have tried just about everything else out. The VT999 is the only overdrive that I have found to date that matches the tone of the BK Butler. Everything from subtle warmth boost to pure crunch it's in there. Used as a pre amp you can get a Vintage Marshal tone out of a Fender twin. I absolutely love this effect.
Honestly, the only complaint I have about this pedal is that instead of being constantly on or off, the light blinks, and that's just a personal quirk; it's not cause for a lost star. More importantly, the tone of the pedal is quite good. It preserves the natural warmness of tone already present in my Gretsch, and even adds a bit when tweaked. As well, the high, mid, and low controls are very effective in tweaking sound; each one makes a big difference, so definitely spend some time working with the levels. The range of gain is quite good. I can get a light overdrive from it all the way to a screaming distortion. I usually keep it between 10:00 and 11:00, and that allows me to play softly with a less noticeable drive, and play harder for a dirtier tone that stands out more. More expensive pedals may have more options, but for the price, this pedal is a steal. Seriously, the build quality is good; it's a metal chassis, and feels quite solid. The knobs do feel like a cheaper plastic, but I haven't have any breakage issues, and for the price, it's a nonissue (I mean seriously, even if I have to replace the knobs in the long run, it's still well worth it).rogue_danar
This thing takes up a lot of real estate on your pedal board, but all in all, for the price, it is worth it. It's a very good clone to the very old original Marshall guv'ner pedal from the 80's. And it is just as Big! If you are looking for a metal pedal, this is not it. This does a really good job at everything from a little crunchy blues, to heavy 80's style rock and roll overdrive. The very first thing you must do when you order this beast, is also order a quality 12ax7 tube for it. The one that is in it is garbage. It's a Bugera 12ax7C junk from china. Order any of the 12ax7 tubes. it doesn't have to be a C tube.I currently have a 12ax7A in it now. It's very easy to change tubes. There are reviews of it all over youtube and they all say the same thing. Change the tube. But once you do, it's a very very good pedal. When you take the cost of the pedal, plus a replacement tube, you're still way below the price of anything else close to it. And it performs better. It works like an additional preamp to help drive your guitar amp. I've used it on a Fender Super Champ XD combo, and an Orange Micro terror and a Acoustic brand solid state 100 watt head. (Acoustic brand, not an amp for acoustic guitar). It works great in all of them. It also accepts booster pedals in front of it really nice. I have put an Xotic boost in front and also a Soul Food with the gain all the way down and volume up (makes it a boost pedal). They both have worked great. It has a built in switchable noise gate that works great with single coil pickups to knock down the hum. If you have room on your board, I highly recommend this pedal over just about any other drive pedal under 300 euros. Really! It's that good! Dialing it in is about the same as a drive channel of a quality tube amp. A balancing act between gain and volume. It is highly responsive to pick attack. So when you are setting your knobs, pick hard and gentle and find that sweet spot in between. Has bass, treble and mid tone knobs too, just like a quality amp. Not just one single tone knob. What a great pedal. Case is extremely durable powder coated steel. I have been burned by cheap products from Bugera and Behringer in the past, and so I was a little leery of giving them another chance, but I am very glad I did. Youtube reviews is what gave me the courage to give it a shot. I am really glad I did. Order one today, and get an inexpensive JJ tube at the same time. No need to step up for a high end select Mullard or anything. Just something different than the stock tube that comes with it. Stock tube gives it very muddy mids and sounds almost out of tune in the higher frequencies. But with the JJ man this thing really rocks. and the eq knobs are highly responsive. I own a couple Ernie Ball VP Jr volume pedals, and while these pedals are superior to the Boss FV50 in terms of build quality and feel, they're heavy. I'm putting together a small pedalboard for bus and train travel and so weight is my primary concern. I picked up the FV50H for use with guitar as well as the EV-5 expression pedal. Some unusual advantages here, compared to most passive volume pedals: Weighs < 1 lb. (and feels even lighter); stereo throughput (good for keyboards); and minimal tone suck. Has the same abrupt taper as most volume pedals — active or passive — but its "minimum volume" knob helps you tweak this: You can set the pedal's heel position to provide anything between zero volume and full volume (= no cut from toe position). This simulates a more-gradual taper/response, if you can live with a heel position that doesn't entirely cut out your sound. E.g., set the heel position to your basic rhythm-guitar volume level, then rock forward to the toe position for solos. The Interwebs claim that you can use a TRS cable, plus a standard patch cable, to make any passive volume pedal work with an expression-pedal input. I haven't tried that yet with this one. I am a home use player and wanted to run this in the effects loop of my 40 watt tube amp to get my preamp crunch without blowing out my windows. I quickly noted that the response was smooth and just what i wanted except that as i neared the full heel position to get the volume i wanted, i was getting some very loud popping from my amp which i worried might blow a speaker. I read online that other Ernie Ball vp owners had noted that there were loose solder contacts on the pot. I took a look and sure enough, one of the solder lugs was loose on mine too. The wire was soldered just fine but the lug was loosely crimped to the little board on the pot. I took the pedal apart pulled the pot out, crimped the solder lug better put it back together (which was a real pain to get the string wrapped correctly and back on the spring). With the pedal back together, it worked great and gave me exactly what i wanted with no popping. This is a great product but could really benefit from some better quality control.Jack
This volume pedal has a great, even volume swell. The addition of gain controls makes the volume pedal even more useful, however. When I'm playing bass, I sometimes want to increase volume for certain passages, but without the sudden change in tone that comes from an overdrive or boost pedal. This does that (I use a few different class D amps). Additionally, this allows me to have greater flexibility with my volume without needing to fiddle with my amp or bass' volume knobs while playing. On guitar, this can act as a nice, subtle boost that can push gain-ier amps (I use an Orange) into some sweet saturation. Great pedal.Derek P

All in all a solid bigmuff clone in small package. The tone knob is nice, you can sculpt a grainy treble or just a nice full warm fuzz, I lean towards the middle. I combined this with a golden horseman that has its gain up too, and it creates a nice doomy stoner sound. I should start by telling you all that i play modern metal, not classic rock or anything close. I bought this pedal a few years back hoping to squash out the hiss in my amp due to my use of an overdrive in front of the amp.I used it in front of my amp with a ts9 in its little effects loop. it was very difficult to get the start-stop quick djent style stuff i wanted without a feedback remnant always cutting in. also, there was a noticable amount of cut on any palm-muted notes and really any note played would not sustain naturally. any setting on the decay would not help. but, i had to have the threshold up pretty high to knock out the hiss. you must also know that i am using a horrific amount of gain with a 6505+. I have the post gain maxed out and most other things maxed out as well.After much research and saving, i invested in the isp decimater g-string. this product was on a whole other level. the things that the ns-2 lacked this thing just has. It senses when you are playing, instead of opening a gate when you play loud enough. Even with my extreme gain settings, overdrive in front, booster in the effects loop, and volume all the way up on my guitar, i can start-stop all day long just like periphery and animals as leaders. plus, my palm muted notes fade naturally as do normally fretted notes. Another thing i have recently learned is that the ns-2 manufacturing process uses lead free solder, whereas the ns-1 has lead based solder. This resulted in a big difference in signal integrity, and is very evident if you leave the pedal on bypass and play something, then removeit from the chain, and play something. it darkens the tone alot. It's a huge compliment to any pedal board. If your tired of excessive hum, buzzing or just white noise especially when using multiple pedals on a pedal board this is the solution. I mated mine with a BOSS LS-2 Line Selector pedal at the start of my pedal chain so every pedal is covered by it. It allows instant quiet after quick aggressive picking starts and stops while using heavy distortion. It's a "Fire and Forget" pedal for the most part if your running the same gear regularly. Initially intended to buy an Xotic EP Booster because I wanted to try the Echoplex thing out, but saw this little guy and figured…why not? I like it so much, I don't see the point in ordering the EP Booster anymore! Hits the front end of my Soldano in a way no overdrive has yet, and with no noise. Works equally well in front of my OCD pedal for a lead boost. And to all the people whining about the switch not clicking…whatever. This pedal does exactly what it claims and does it better than other pedals of the same purpose. It is constructed extremely well. For around $50 this pedal's physical casing and switch assembly is made better than pedals I own costing hundreds of dollars more. I don't foresee this pedal ever needing replacement or repair. i wanted to compare this to my boss hm-2 pedal but i can't get to it at this time, so i'll have to do this by itself. this is a very nice distortion pedal. again the plastic casing is durable and inexpensive ,so you're getting a good pedal for the money.the level and distortion controls are sensitive- i consider a plus. i do wish there was more bass in the in the low frequency control. now you might be asking, "why don't i cut back on the high frequency control?". here's why : the high frequency control appears to be a combination high frequency/gain control! the more you turn it up, the more gain. combined with the sensitive dist/level controls this is a nice feature if you want that. i like it . i can always boost the bass on the amp/EQ/whatever. i like to use different dimensions of distortions and if you are like me ,i recommend this.thurstonnalley
I guess I'm more of a roady/studio guy than I am an artist, as I've always got more out of turning knobs then actually playing music lol. I bought this pedal for one reason and one sound only. The Swedish "chainsaw" guitar tone of the 90's that came out of Sunlight Studios that was popularized by bands like Entombed and Dismembered. I think it sounds incredibly good considering I bought it NEW for 25 bones plus shipping! The distortion is sometimes a bit over the top, but cleans up when you roll back the volume knobs on the guitar. I imagine you could really get some interesting tones going if you paired this pedal with a compressor and eq both before and after it in the signal chain (and with Behringer that's actually an affordable option), and of course, a tube amp, as most of the bands with that sound supposedly used Peavey 5150 tube heads. Very nasty distortion pedal, if you could travel back in time to the 90's you could probably sell this to a metal head for absolutely ridiculous amounts of money. If you are not buying this pedal for a certain "Swedish death metal" sound or just metal in general, I would not recommend this pedal, as there are probably much better pedals out there for what you need. Its made out of plastic which I personally don't mind, as I'm not a touring or gigging musician. If I stomped on it several times a night for half a year I dunno how that would work out. Not a big fan of the color, but then again, I didn't buy this pedal for aesthetic value. This is the amazing Boss DS-1 distortion pedal, loved by all who use it. Amazing value at just £55. I won't bore you with stories about how robust it is, because we all know Boss equipment lasts forever. It looks and feels great, but most importantly, sounds incredible. I play punk rock, and with my Gibson SG Special, plugged into my Marshall JCM 900 this delivers exactly the sound I want. I loved that in the manual it gives example sound setting, one of which was British Punk. That just made me smile. I knew instantly it was right up my street. Oh, and if you're into electronics, this thing is made of pin-through-hole components, so it leaves it open for a good bit of modding. There are plenty of guides for that online. Now I don't hate it, but Its not my first go to pedal. I like the more modern BOSS "Metal Core". It is however like all BOSS PEDALS built like a tank, extremely reliable and a great first pedal. For the money, this is a super value. I found that I like it for "Gain Stacking" in combination with the BOSS MD-2"Mega Distortion" and a few other pedals. Even two DS-1 DISTORTION together improve the performance to me. Overall it's not terrible and I see were for some it could really be a price but I lean towards Heavy… Heavy Metal and for that it's more a corvette when you need a Lamborghini. I have a 60w Fender Deville amp. Lovely clean sounds straight from the amp but couldn't really use the overdrive channel without the volume getting to an inconsiderate level at home. This pedal has addressed that issue really well. This pedal now provides me really raunchy distortion while providing a greater control for volume. The pedal also provides a nice boost in changing between a clean channel directly from the amp and then through the pedal. Very pleased with this investment, particularly for the price. Does exactly what I wanted it to do (subtle pitch correction with virtually undetectable latency) and so very pleased with it. Gender and robotic don’t sound that great to my ears but what I’m not too bothered. Unit is solid and looks road worthy so absolutely no complaints there. Main main (minor) issue with this unit is that phantom power us always on and there’s no way to turn it off (ok for condenser mics but not ideal for normal mics). This seems to cause 2 issues for me – firstly hum/noise with very cheap mics that some backing singers own and secondly PA crack each time you connect/disconnect a mic (not what punters want to hear when you are setting up/packing up) even with normal shure sm58 mics. In my opinion this Unit would benefit from a discreet phantom power switch to overcome this slight design flaw especially as most people would want this for live use where dynamic mics are the norm.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
The device is useful but is not a cure-all. You should be a decent singer to start with. If you are not within a half of a semi tone of the target pitch, it will jump to the wrong note. Having said that, it works nicely for simple beatles type harmonies and can really sweeten them up. Using it in a small performance area will produce a chorus effect–your voice mixed with the output of the voice tone. That feels pretty weird and can be distracting. I think running dry monitors and outputting the processed voice only over the mains might be a good way to go but I have not tried it. To do that the mic signal must be tapped before the effect and sent to the monitor mix. A bit of a pain to do. If the voice tone had a "dry" output jack it would be a lot easier. I bought three of these boxes. One per singer. After going back and forth about it I decided keep them. I can see where they would be useful for recording. I did notice some artifacts (faint bump sounds) when running a female voice through it. Probably not loud enough to be noticeable during performance, however. And it not unique to voice tone. Other pitch correction devices can produce artifacts, too. My settings were CH, Off/hard at 9 o'clock and gender at center. The output is very hot and I had to turn the knob down to 8:30 to have any level of control. The general tone seems slightly less clear even with the auto tune turned off…or maybe it is just a bit more compressed. The gender knob is a riot. We could not stop laughing!Swampy
Works just fine. Until now Ive used a computer with Ableton live and a free plugin (GSnap) to achieve the same thing to do subtle pitch correction on live vocals (which can do up to 8 channels simultaneously i.e. for backing singers). The reason I wanted a pedal was for playing in a different band and who are still on an analogue setup thus no facility for a computer connection. Works just fine. I wasnt after robotic effects so dont use those and knew from reading other reviews than the Gender knob is amusing but thats about all. Just use chromatic and I dont use automatic key detection either as I wouldnt trust it at a gig otherwise very happy with it.sharms*nick

I have owned one of thses for like 10 years or more and works wonders if you set it up right. I have the old 2 threshold model. if The broke I would buy 2 of these. First thise thing goes after the distortion and noise making pedals and eq. Then to effects like delay and chorus reverb because if the hush is after it will chop off the lower volume modulation effects they create. Also should be in the effects loop becasue it does take the hum out of your amp. I had this in the effects look of my marshall solid state head similar to the mg series out now. It totally cleaned up the hum in the overdrive channels then the second threshold on the old one can be set lower for clean channels that still hum. Another wonderous items that i have the works great in conjunction with this is my Voodoo Lab Pedal Power conditioned power supply to run this and all of the other effects more silently using a regulated power supply.92PRSCE24
I had chosen to Buy a Hush noise suppressor because of a single coil guitar rig I was using for the current band I was in. Due to the nature of the music we were playing, I decided that a little less "hum" in my signal would be helpful during the quieter parts of the music. I had heard good things about the Rocktron Hush pedal, so I had decided to give it a whirl. My overall opinion is that it is a great pedal whenever extreme cases of hum threaten to destroy your sound. If you have an atypical type of single coil rig, the effects of the pedal are not worth the amount of tone coloration that occur whenever the pedal is activated. I was slightly unhappy with my tone when used. I had found that I had to turn the threshold up significantly to get the desired results, and in doing so it effected the sound of the attack on the strings – that's not to say that it doesn't have it's applications (high gain distortion settings – noisy effects in your signal chain). I'm happy that I have the pedal (as I'm sure it will get it's use from time to time), but it is not a regular part of my chain of pedals. I would be cautious in recommending this pedal to someone who is only slightly unhappy with the amount of "hum" in their signal.sotakethisring

I'm not a guitar guy so I can't speak to its abilities in that respect, but with this pedal as a new resident in my synths effects loop I think I will be keeping it plugged in indefinitely. The POG has an excellent ability to fatten up whatever you put through it, or work it almost like a filter and turn a synth loop anemic by sending it all through the octaver, only to reintroduce the sub and dry later on for a great effect. I could go on and on, but it'll be more fun if you buy one yourself and see what I am talking about first hand.
Dry signal integrity is good but as soon as you bring in the octave up or down, the sound becomes very synthetic, it takes all the punch out of the guitar. I don't think it sounds good with open or barre chords, the most you can get away with is a power chord. If you want to make video game music this could be cool, or for some limited effects when you are recording. It sounds like a synthesizer or an organ. It has a very good buffered bypass if you're worried about that. I tried it clean and with some OD and fuzz and I don't think it enhances the tone, it is much more of a special effect than anything, and its too expensive to be so limited. Overall: Finally got another Whammy V after missing my prior one in a "stupid-sell all-great new multi unit dumb idea". Not sure what to say about this pedal as it would seem of the many vids I have seen on it, I cast doubt if anyone really can understand how to use it without having one for a time. I constantly hear this "weeeeoooo" thing and really that might be of use now and then but what nails this pedal for me is the harmonizer mode section. 8va's and 4ths,5ths, utterly amazing. This is not so much a moving the pedal thing as everyone seems to want to do. Most of th etime mine is parked up or dwn for a specific harmony or maybe a sweep of low to high octave, play a version of Dazed and Confused using this and you may just never be the same. The lowered 5th harmonizer mode on this puppy is probably one of the best all time tones I have ever had the pleasure of playing. A harmonizer, with no set key or scale restriction, polyphonic tracking, true bypass, I'd pay more just for that. The DT model is cool but I am not really doing step tuning variants. Anyway, this pedal is sooooo much better than what you will hear being done on typical vids. Mastering this puppy will afford you a range of really cool tone possibilities nothing else can muster. Those who hate this pedal suffer from the terrible videos of it or the old models that glitch and burble from only being monophonic tracking. I love how certain players use this pedal. Bucketed is the absolute master of the Digitech Whammy. I like Buckethead and got a whammy to try for myself. The only time I actually use it during performance as a ad-lib bit. The problem is that when its engaged it sucks the life out of your tone. Its like going from an all tube amp to using an iRig to play your guitar through your cell phones speakers. The effects are crazy awesome though. People that don't know gear that hear you play, bug out when they are trying to figure out how in the world you are getting those crazy sounds. The pedal needs recalibrate all the time. For no reason, even when you have the pedal on heel down, when you engage the unit the pitch will shift. The dive bomb effects are crazy for weird rumbling effects. Bought this in a heartbeat to replace my Digitech Whammy IV, which is a fantastic pedal but lacks the sound quality and additional features of this latest version: the Whammy V. For the uninitiated: The Digitech Whammy is a versatile pitch-shifting, harmonizer, octave, drop-tune, and chorus pedal used extensively by at least one of your favorite pro guitarists: Johnny Greenwood, Tom Morello, Jack White, Matt Bellamy, Buckethead, and countless others. I use it not just to replicate parts of their songs–Johnny's +2-octave riff in "Just", the solo in "Like a Stone", the "bass" line in "Seven Nation Army"–but in plenty of my own songs, both live and in the studio. The construction is solid and designed for both touring and in-studio use–durable but not too heavy, big but not obnoxious. Next, the upgrades: This new Whammy comes with two huge improvements. The first is true-bypass switching. Previous models are well known for being tone-sucking beasts, and although there is still a noticeable change in your sound when this latest version is on, when it's off it's off. The other massive upgrade is polyphonic tracking while pitch-shifting, which means it can shift entire chords up or down without sounding glitchy or garbled (e.g., "My Iron Lung"). For people who like that glitchy Whammy IV sound and want the option to use it, there's now a Classic/Chords switch which lets you do just that. On the cosmetic side, Digitech renamed a few modes, reorganized the layout, and brought back the Whammy logo on the expression pedal. All of these upgrades are godsends for long-time users. I was looking for a boost pedal to drive an old Gibson GA-25 with a Strat. The Archer sounds above and beyond. It has plenty of volume to drive the amp and setting the gain between 10 and 2 and rolling off the treble smooths out the crunch while still maintaining it character. Used it with a Plexi 100 and a Twin Reverb as well as a Rickenbacker, Tele, and Les Paul with the same result. The Archer sounds fantastic and each amp and guitar sounds like that amp or guitar. Worked the same on other pedals. Used it to drive an OCD and it the perfect bump without having to use an amp with complicated switching. No noise from the pedal while toggling on or off. Treble knob is super useful to smooth out or add clarity. It was really easy to dial it in and there's a pretty wide sweet spot. It's super responsive to picking and fingering. I kinda want to buy another to have an Archer drive an Archer. Would that be weird?Nickname
The pedal is small and therefore pedalboard-friendly but is still built like a tank. The knobs and switch feel totally quality stuff, the chassis is rock-solid and good looking. This pedal can be used, just like a Klon Centaur, as a clean boost up to a mild unique sounding overdrive. It gives you plenty of volume and headroom (you generally have to keep the volume knob close to zero if you want to match the bypass volume) and the Gain control is very accurate and allows you to shape your tone just as you desire. It is a great blues or rock pedal and gives its best if put on top of a tube amp that's almost breaking up but you can still use it, as a regular drive pedal, in front of a clean amp and it's guaranteed to sound better than most of the amplifiers' internal gain stages. Not a cheap pedal, in line with its main competitors, but definitely worth the price. I used heavy fuzzes for many years, I decided a few years ago to switch to something different. Been switching between the germanium ocd and the Xotic BB preamp last few years. The Archer does what I was looking for. Sounds great with my guitar volume slightly turned down. I've never used one of those real klons. But I now can understand why everyone likes em. Put a good compression pedal in front of it and it will almost sing.Duane
