First off, read the copy. Its a lap steel conversion. Ive seen people say its to high and you cant use the fingerboard for fingered notes. That is exactly what a lap steel is like. If you want to still finger the frets, this is not for you. Other than that statement, this product says exactly what is is. There are no problems with this product.jackbackbone
There are some mixed reviews for this gadget. However, I have found it to be a great help for playing slide. A lot of comments on it being much wider than the guitars neck and, yes, it is a bit wider. At the headstock the strings are about the same width as the neck. I havent found this to be a problem. It is, after all, sold as a lap steel converter. It works well for slide guitar for me. It raises the strings a lot so dont expect to fret chords easily, but this stops the slide clashing with the frets. The metal does seem to make the folk size guitar Im using pretty loud, but I do like the tone. If you just want to use a slide I highly recommend it. Tune to G and away you go!frazermarr
I was pleased when GP1103 Perfect Guitar Extension Nut arrived sooner than expected. This extension nut was easy to install on the guitar. I now have a guitar that can be played with a guitar steel with a pleasing sound. This product offers flexibility for further musical explorations.DEXTER

and replace them with a great new Tusq artificial ivory nut. Plays excellent and transmits tone very well (you can tell the difference if you drop the old one and this one on a hard surface.) It also files down very easily to fit your size neck, and with the raised ridge will fit both curved and flat nut slots. This is also great for converting an inexpensive Affinity strat to standard Strat string spacing so that your fingers can get on the strings better. An amazing improvement.edge12x2

Reviews:
The factory slotting on my J 50 nut did not match those on the zero nut. I replaced the first 3 frets, as they had moderate fretting grooves from playwear. Unfortunately the guitar continued to buzz on the open E and B strings. I suspect the zero fret needs to be a bit taller. I will try raising my saddle before giving up. I like the easy tuning of the zero fret, also like the sound of open strings on the zero fret. At this point, Im thinking the work involved here isnt worth it. I will keep trying.rik4551eb
The nut slot for the low E string on my Epiphone Sheraton was too low causing a buzz at the first fret. Since I had to replace the nut, I decided to try this idea and it worked great. It allows you to easily set the action at the first fret to the right height for your playing style. The result is all of the strings are positioned properly and there are no problems with intonation going out. Unlike a standard nut, with the strings resting on the zero fret, you don't have to worry about the strings working themselves into the nut slots and making it necessary to replace the nut again. When the zero fret does wear down (would take a long time I would think) you can just pop out the worn zero fret and pop in a new one. With proper first fret action, it also makes it much easier to fret bar chords at the top of the neck. Since the nut slots on the zero glide nut are only for string spacing, the strings don't get stuck in the slot when tuning, so tuning is smoother. Lastly, it also adds clarity to open position chords because now all strings are playing against a fret instead of some of them sitting on the nut. If you have to replace a nut, this is a great option. If you don't think that you do, you might want to check! Once I put this on one guitar, I realized that another guitar hadhigh action at the first fret, so I replaced that one, too, with one of these nuts. It does take a bit of careful work to install if you do it yourself – just don't rush it.tjcurtin54
I bought this to replace the plastic nut on a Yamaha LS16 ARE. The idea of a zero fret has always seemed to make sense to me. Strings are vibrating against metal at all times whereas with the usual nut, open strings are vibrating against plastic or bone. I'm no luthier, but happy to do a basic guitar setup so decided to have a go at fitting this myself. Be warned – there is a lot of sanding required. I had to adjust the height, thickness and width (both sides of the neck) using fine wet and dry paper taped to a flat worktop. The zero fret also has to be cut to length, filed and sanded. To get the final finish I used metal polish on the nut and the fret. I am pleased with the result. It looks good. There seems less friction from the nut slots which makes tuning easier. String height at the first fret is at the minimum possible which means holding down chords in the first position is easier. I can't really say if the sound is improved as I added a bone nut and new strings at the same time and the LS16 sounded pretty good to start with. Would I buy another? Maybe – but if I could get a ready to fit bone or Tusq nut cheaper, maybe not.6tringthing

5. Graph Tech Pt-6642-00 Black Tusq 6 String Nut
Product Details:
Black tusq xl nut 6 stringg electric nut 42 x 6 the pt-6642-00 is a great option to replace or upgrade the nut on your six string acoustic or electric guitar. it has a flat bottom and is pre-slotted for a quick and simple install. black tusq xl is designed to boost guitar tone and performance. this precision engineered nut is made with a specially formulated material which couples the strings' vibrations to the neck and brings out the hidden harmonics and richness in every note. it is based on the highly resonant tusq man made ivory, but is impregnated with ptfe to improve the tuning performance of the guitar.
Reviews:
In terms of tone, the Tusk XL is a dramatic improvement over a plastic OEM nut. I am amazed at the tonal/response difference. If you have upgraded the pickups/electronics in your guitar, swapping out the plastic nut with a tusk will raise the bar overall on the tone of your instrument and you will really hear those upgrades. A black PT 6642 XL nut, though, appears to be the closest fit to an Ibanez SA series electric nut replacement. The PT6642 is the perfect length and string spacing. It is, though, a few .0 MM too narrow and too short, but can work well with a shim of .040mm. If you order a nut that is a touch higher, the options available get even more narrow and the string spacing too wide. If you search for a nut with a width you could sand to fit, the height drops significantly in the options available, and you are seriously pushing the strings too wide on the board. So, I made a shim: it looks great and the upgrade in tone is more than worth that extra effort.Jim L.

Just as described and really great price(fraction of price of local music stores), very minimal adjusting to fit my Strat perfectly. Also came several days earlier than expected. I seriously thought I was buying a cheap plastic product and that's what I expected but that wasn't the case here. Locally I would have paid same price for inferior product, that would have probably broken while filing slots or slots would have already been cut to deep. I could have actually left nut as is(with no filing or sanding) but wanting to fine tune for my own personal preference. Very pleased and will definitely order from dealer again.rah5252012

The perfect replacement for a wore-out, vintage 7 1/4 inch radius Strat neck. Will work for a vintage Tele neck too. If you run 9-42s, theres no need to widen the nut slots, just a little light smoothing with 400 grit sandpaper, then hit it with a mechanical pencil to get some graphite in the slots…SCHMOOOTH! (Fender also has a different nut for the more modern 9 1/2 inch radius necks).mudvillian
Great Fender product. String notches were perfect for my '93 American Strat. However, straight out of the pack it is too high for most players and keep in mind it is curved. I came up with the idea to use one of those thick nail files you can flex to fit the curve. Take your time and check it often. Easier to get it right rather than trying to build it back up!kwhitwor11

14. Fender Guitar Nut
Reviews:
Requires a slight offset towards bridge. About 80 thousands of an inch on my strat. Thought I'd try this out on my Floyd equipped guitar instead of a locking nut. It does actually stay in tune well with moderate use of the wammy bar. Recommend using a couple of roller string trees as well. Nice addition if, like me, you don't like having to loosen the nut clamping screws to get more adjustment dialed into the Floyd bridge fine tuning adjustment screws.wayne451
The Fender LSR Roller nut is a great piece of gear ( yes, gear) for any guitar with a trem system. A long time ago when I was working in a little guitar shop in Venice, CA a fairly well known player of the time told me he always soldered the ball end of his strings whenever he put a new set of strings on his guitar. He said it helped keep is guitar in tune because the ball end is where most of the stretching occurs. So I took him up on his idea and it works great!. I'll put a set of locking tuners (my preference are Sperzels, they're a great company to do business with and they are all American Made) on, too. I've been soldering my strings at the ball end for years now. And with locking tuners and the help of the LSR Nut I have a great locking trem system that needs very little maintenance or repair.clean1too
I just installed this on a Fender Showmaster. Same first as a Strat. Not too bad too install if you plan it out and take your time. The sizes of drill bit and philips driver are critical as noted in instructions. Came out great for me, but unless you have a lot of patience, I'd recommend a luthier installing it. As far as performance, I noticed the problem string I always had with knocking out of tune (G) was only slightly improved. Could be other setup issues that I'll have to look into, but overall I think I had the bridge set up fairly well. Looks pretty spiffy on the guitar though!corvettenlc
