Bass Guitar Frequency Range For Sale (2024 Update)

Wasn't expecting more than a good D. I. Box. After using it at my band rehearsal it's now become essential. It has made my ashdown drive pedal obsolete, cleaned up the bottom end in my tone and the whole band. I use a Spector Legend 6 Bass. I'm In a band with two bassists, drums and vocals. We both Bi-amp. A bass amp and a guitar amp. Getting these to all work together can be a real headache… But this has improved things so much, that the other bassist has one now. Tone very comparable to an ampeg type- Growly, very tight and controllable bottom end, doesn't "fart out" on Max. Top end can be moved between airy and crunchy. Build quality It is plastic, but I have no worries. I'm sure if I stomped on the 1/4" Jack, it would damage, but I keep mine on the pedal board anyway. Value Beyond comparison. I can't think of a better spent 20. The sansamp it's cloning is at least 8 times more expensive. And although it's better in some areas, (metal casing etc), sound-wise there's little to choose between them. At this price, in the unlikely event it broke, I'd just buy another. I have recorded using this, and it has very little noise, But massive tone. If it sounds good in an amplifier, it really comes into its own recorded. Save yourself a couple of grandon an svt, and just use this. Yes, really. I would highly recommend this pedal/D.I.snailsetsnail

Obviously with Behringer you are likely trying to save some cash instead of getting something "name brand." When I would record DI bass guitar, I used to run it through a distortion or fuzz pedal to get a more natural sounding gain. The V-Tone pedal is very good in that regard. Turn the presence, drive, and blend knobs all the way up and adjust the EQ to your liking and you get a mean crunch while keeping the clack of loose strings. That is about the limit of this pedal's potential, at least for me. Any adjustment to those knobs to turn down the distortion results in a sound nearly identical with just a clean DI with no pedal or preamp at all. It's as if turning them up from 1 to 8 has no effect until you get them to 9 and 10. Another flaw I've found is the high gain settings bring along a high pitched whistle that occurs randomly during playing, though it seems to happen with a lot of string rattle from long, held notes. It doesn't stand out when it's mixed with drums and a wall of guitars, though. I've only used it as a DI for recording, never as a preamp or DI for a PA or anything like that, it's possible it could be really good for those. I am happy with it to record bass for my doom, black metal, and mathcore kind of music, but wouldn't go to it for anything else.Jacob

I recently purchased the guitar version (GDI21) and was quick to get this bass version soon after. I own a rack mount Tech21 Sansamp RBI unit which has been excellent for me thru the years live. Also, their V1 VT Bass pedal has been a mainstay for me in a live setting. This is a very good clone of the BDDI with potential issues if used in a live setting. These are: Cheezy and fragile On/Off foot switch, and Illegible knobs. I have no idea where the knobs are set at any given time. Aside from that, I like this as a desk top companion to my other tone shapers such as the MXR M80 and M81 Bass Preamps. For little money, you can't lose in purchasing this for a home studio bass pre.Reed in CA

Overall: I have put this preamp in two of my basses now and I absolutely love it. Super easy to install with no issues!!! This preamp has several cool features I love. For me the best part is being able to select the exact mid frequency you want to boost or cut. It’s also super cool that there are four different curves you can choose from on the treble boost/cut. All these features make for a very versatile preamp you can use to dial in any sound you want right on your bass.In response to the other review on here I don’t know what that guys problem was. When you install the knobs you just have to make sure you leave a little space between the knobs and the nut below them. All you have to do is just lift up slightly on the knob while you tighten the set screw.Timothy

Overall: Dont even bother with this junk…..Will never EVER buy again. EVER!!!!If I could give this system a 0 instead of 1 star I would. I bought this set close to a year ago and it has been a nightmare the whole time. The biggest problem with this system is the "d" shape shafts on the concentric pots. I tried knobs that I had ordered for this upgrade and they did not work very well because the upper small knob kept dragging on the top of the bottom larger knob. I contacted EMG and they said that they sold knobs on their website so I ordered those knobs. They did the same thing. I contacted them again and they wanted me to send them the set with the plate where the pots were attached to. I sent them the whole thing yet they could not fix the problem and sent it back to me with no solution. They are not willing to give me back my money so a year later and I am still stuck with this useless set from EMG. I have installed many high end preamps and also cheap preamps from China and all the pots are always smooth. EMG should be embarrassed to sell this junk. Right now it is still in its box not being used because when I tried to use it the knobs kept sticking and it was very embarrassing. NEVER AGAIN will I by from EMG. They have really let me down. I am at the process of contacting the commerce department in their area to file a complaint. All this calamity because they want to save a buck.Sotero

This pedal is alright. I use it sidechained into my compressor so I can't really comment on the tone. But it is pretty flimsy. I can see it eventually breaking in some way or another. I wish they had maybe used a metal casing instead of plastic. Also there should have been some detents put into the sliders. But for the price I guess I can't complain too much. If you're looking for something simple this could be beneficial.Midwest Russ

This was a refurbished item It Arrived with a broken power button and a non functioning light on the volume knob. So….. I popped the top, the push on/off power button was an easy fix and since the volume light has no impact on the function of the knob no biggie Everything else works as advertised For the money I'd say it's it's a good deal A lot of bang for the buckjamesjwljrocks

Endless possibilities. Instruction book/manual is terrible. Went on you tube and found a video on basic set up and it helped immensely. Once you get the idea, it is simple and makes sense. Best sounds and Uber customizable. I use it for bass but it can be used for just about any instrument from keyboard to guitar. Looks good in the rack. Can't beat the price!tesummerill

Pairing this with a foot controller, unlocks a lot of features and/or makes them easier to use while playing. There are a lot of tips online, but the major tip is with setting the overall input gain into the unit. When set properly, this thing behaves as it should. For my purposes (generally practice, jamming by myself), it's a great unit. Other uses I would recommend this preamp for are cover bands, studio/session bassists, anything where a variety of tones is necessary. This unit differs from a lot of other preamps, in that you can model different amps with different cabs, or turn that feature completely off, making this a bit less static than other similar preamps. The user interface is a bit of a learning curve, but once you start getting it down, you realize it's pretty intuitive and well thought out.monti2889

I was recommended this bass preamp almost 20 years ago. I've been through a TON of boutique equipment since then, trying to find 'my sound' and figured..what the heck, let me give this pedal a try. It makes EVERYTHING sound better! If you play on other peoples rigs from time to time, bring this!!! You'll be so much happier you did! You can find 'your sound' on almost any rig with this little guy. I'm a gear snob, I like 'my sound', which is clear, clean, and with a little bit of tube breakup while grinding in on my jazz. My sound is a cross between Flea and Marcus Miller. My boutique equipment gives me this on its own. When I'm forced to play a Behringer single 15" cab with no tweeter and no usable EQ because its the backline, the Sans Amp will be definitely utilized that night! Do yourself a favor and grab one of these pedals! Even if you keep it in you bag as a backup DI. It's like having a preamp and/or a DI at your disposal in case you needed to go straight to the house.DT

Bought this to see about going straight to p.a. And monitor. Initial impressions very good. Even with tone controls flat it seems to improve the sound compared to going straight into the desk. More depth and detail? Not sure if they’re the right words but they’ll have to do! It now sits at the end of the line on my tiny pedal board. Here's why I love this thing. First, I prefer passive basses. Second, when gigging I need fast access to three basic tone signatures — a mid-boosted one for a balanced mix with the band, a bottom-heavy grindy one for heavy lifting, and a scooped one for funk and solos. Program those in, and good to go, with the option to tweak them a bit for conditions without permanently altering the setting. Third, after years of lugging heavy, bulky head units I now feed the Sansamp into a 1000W ultralite power amp and have all the headroom I need, without the pain. Fourth, whenever I meet a new sound man at gigs the first thing I hear is "Sweet, a Sansamp DI." Fifth, hand-built like a tank in NYC. I'm sure I can list more, but you get the idea. I've been using it for three years now and won't ever go back to onboard preamps, either on the bass or on the head unit.Casey Ess

I get a variety of good, useable tones out of this one box. In fact, this has replaced the distortion patches I was using on my trusty DOD Bass 30 entirely. To say that I am happy with any stock stompbox is a big deal, because I have only a few left in my collection that I haven't modified the circuitry in to better suit me. This is one of the few originals, and that says volumes. I step on mine regularly, and haven't had any issues with it. I'm not a bass player, but I play one on my records. I've been playing lead guitar for 20 years, and I know good sounds. I say this to inform you that my credentials are in good order. You can get any sort of growl you want, thick or thin- and as much or little of the clean as you need to retain the punch at the same time. The only thing I would change is the color of the box… Since that has absolutely nothing to do with the sound it makes, I'm fine with it. Seriously, I was skeptical too when I saw the price. I got this a while back to add a some gain to play a bit of metal with a bit of overdrive on top as well as fattening the sound of the bass. Unfortunately this will never give you a "smooth" gain sound like having a guitar amp's gain around 2. Having gain down all the way shuts off all sound to the amp, and having it around 2/10 puts on a harsh brittle overdrive no matter the EQ. Sounds a little better with flatwound strings. This pedal goes all out or nothing. If a "Hysteria" sound is what you're going for, this will do it but not a true amp low/med-gain sound.Fear

I bought this pedal as just simply a way to help some popping and such that goes on within my amp when I decide that it's more important to play rough and loud (having too much fun and getting carried away) than to play sonically correct for a few select songs. First I tested it out and seemed to work as per the reason I got it but then when I went to a jam session. I noticed that this pedal was doing soooo much more than just helping level out all the noises when they peaked or just shot up abruptly. This pedal as I found out is not just for those who like to play hard and/or slap.. This pedal is almost as important to me now as any EQ. Each note when the pedal is off sometimes it's molded together and sounds muddy when playing several notes at once or chords. When you want more than one note to ring at a time this will make ALL the difference in the world. Each note comes out crystal clear. BUY THIS PEDAL! The LMB-3 gave me what I was missing by providing good compression ratio and threshold to create a full and even sound. The unit is very versatile and can be adjusted to fit most playing styles (i.e. finger picking, slap, etc.). I did have to play around with the enhance to reduce line noise (hiss) to an acceptable level. It would probably effect a recording, but for live performances, is less of a factor. The price is very reasonable given the BOSS quality. I would recommend buying an AC adapter to go along with this pedal as well.DanO

Decent bass feeder. You gotta spend time to find settings you like, especially if you are combining this pedal with other effects. If you overdo it, it may sound too beefy and plain, so balance is key. But once you find sweet spot, you are rewarded with fixed and rounded bass sound. Bought this for use with my bass based on the great experience I have had with the Venue DI for my acoustic. Easy to set up and very intuitive. Able to achieve all the tone shaping I need. You can do straight DI OR hit the foot switch and get extra shaping including a moderate OD. Highly recommend for any bassist who can or needs to go straight to the board. I would say it can even be used in recoding situations as well.spotmarker

This is nothing more than and exaggerated bass boost. The unit comes with a dual knob controller with a subsonic filter needed to cut some of the overwhelming boost. I will not recommend this unit again!jasjamz4

I own five Ibanez basses, my first one I bought back in 1982 was the Silver Series P bass. This is a really solid bass, I can get many different sounds out it, it feels good and is comfortable to play, it has nice bottom, growl and sustain. Great value for this price range, go for it!Mike

I tour with this guitar and it has so much character and I fell in love with the tone right away. Rosewood fretboards are not in style anymore so a maple fretboard on a bass is a major plus. Everyone loves it. It was hard choosing the warm yellow or cool mint green. I went with the mint green to go with our beachy image.Kayla

This fretless bass is a great value! This bass is about 1/3 the price of the next cheapest fretless. The sound is very good with a wide range of tonal possibilities. Exactly what I was hoping for. The flat wound strings have amazing treble, similar to round wounds. I was able to lower the action quite a bit by adjusting the bridge with the provided Allen wrench. On the downside, while the A, D, and G strings were flawless, the E string was dead. It was totally mismatched to the sound of the other strings; thumpy without any treble. I guessed that the outer wrapping around the core had unwound at the factory and was not tight. Removing the E from the tuning peg and twisting it to tighten the wrap around the core improved the sound dramatically. Endemic to this model is a design flaw (I tried 3 of these basses previous) wherein the two tone controls are wired in series rather than in parallel. Either tone control can control the tone of either the bridge or neck pick-up, so that it is impossible to control the tone of the two pickups independent of the other. Consequently, you can roll off the treble fully with one tone control and then roll it off again with the other for an insanely deep bass sound. You can easily re-wire this unforgivable defect in a few minutes, if you own a soldering iron. You can Google this slip-up and get a correct wiring diagram online. I may leave it for now, as I am getting into the tonal possibilities of the "extended bassy" sound. Finally, the fret board is unmarked. Being a visual player, I found it helpful to pencil in fret lines. The side markers provided on the neck are not so helpful, as they are in the traditional fretted positions, one half fret back from the place where you need to finger. These drawbacks are not a deal breaker in my opinion. The bass is a blast to play and the tone is completely different than my fretted basses. GET THIS BASS! I STRONGLY RECOMMEND IT!Lenny

To be honest, I bought this bass mostly because of a great discount offered by Musician's Friend. I didn't want to spend a lot on the bass since I only wanted to experiment with fretless playing. However, this bass was a pleasant surprise. It looks great, plays great and has provided me with a bass sound I always wanted but could never get with my fretted basses. I was concerned that I would play out of tune without the frets, but it was easy to get used to finding the correct notes. The pickups are excellent! I've recorded several tunes with it now and honestly love the results. I'm impressed by Rogue basses, which many of my bass-playing friends shrug off as being "cheap" and not a brand name. They don't know what they are missing! I intend to buy a fretted version ASAP. It is lighter than my Fender Jazz basses and the smaller neck is easier to play. In conclusion, I'll never be a bass 'snob' again. Rogue products are an excellent bargain and not just for "beginner" bass players.lcad1953

I am mainly a guitarist but have always had an interest in a fretless bass. It sounds surprisingly good. To get intonation right I had to replace the bridge adjustment screws with longer 3X50 mm screws. Without that fix it is unplayable. Another fix would be to move the bridge plate 1/2" towards neck.Tom

I brought this for a signature book for our wedding, we wanted a playable momento, but didn't want to spend a lot of money. It's a great $88 guitar, we have guitars upwards of $500 so of course it would not be as good. Well built, tunes easily, buy needs frequent tuning. I think if we replace with high quality strings we would definitely take this guitar up a notch. Good for beginners and will definitely teach them tuning skills.Tasha S.

I purchase this bass being motivated by its price and rave reviews. Let me just say that when I received my bass today I was blown over at the fit and finish on this bass. It looks like a $500.00+ guitar! I've been playing it for hours and the deep bass is so sweet. The action is a tad high but I kind of like it that way. The great sound projection from this bass made me chuckle while I was playing because the bass made a silver cup I have on a wall mounted shelf rattle! Now that's impressive sound projection! I can't wait to plug in this bass to my friend's Ampeg that's a 1X15 ported bass amp. It should be wild! For the money this Best Choice acoustic had got to be the deal of a lifetime if you're in the market for an acoustic bass guitar.Jason

This is a great acoustic-electric bass. I originally purchased it to use as an alternative to plugging in my electric bass. I instantly fell in love with it. It stays in tune. The nut is of appropriate measurements and the frets are greatly positioned. I changed the factory installed strings with some acoustic bass strings and it sounded so nice! I bought this bass because a friend had one that worked great and played great and I loved it. When I purchased mine I had it sent to my house. 5 days later and it comes in with busted knobs and I had to take it in for a refund. They had another in stock and I took it home. As a relative newbie to bass playing I thought I'd invest in something a bit better than my basic P bass. As soon as I picked it up it felt light and comfortable. I like compactness of the guitar and how easily could find the strings and frets when practicing . . which makes my learning process quite a bit easier. The sound quality is both good and varied with Hofners pick up set up. The bass just looks good too, which I know doesn't influence the playing experience etc but it makes you want to just pick it up and play. Overall I'm very pleased with my purchase and look forward to many an hour practicing . . . and maybe even making some progress too.Duncan S.

I got this exact bass in green here from Musician's Friend (stupid deal of the day). I have played about 20 or more live shows with it send it definitely holds up.. it has a very big sound and is extremely lightweight, which is fantastic because we move around a lot. The craftsmanship is pretty good, probably adequate to that of the Epiphone viola, but with a cooler color. I constantly get compliments on the color. The only thing I'd say I would have liked better is if they had put a little more quality or craftsmanship into the control panel. It's not horrible at all, it definitely does the trick, it just kind of looks plain Jane. I would suggest switching out the volume and tone knobs with the vintage style tea cup knobs. That's what I did, and it really helps dress the bass up.Arrow

I'm a keyboard player getting back into playing bass after decades away, so I did a fair amount of research before this purchase, and I'm glad I did. There is a very really difference in quality between the 'Contemporary' and 'Ignition' Hofners, both in terms of finish and sound – The contemporary has better sustain and more 'richness' in the bass end. If you are wanting either something approaching an 'electric upright' or a classic McCartney sound, then the Contemporary will get you nearer than the Ignition – it's not in the 'German Made' class but unless you've got 2 grand to spend… Mine arrived on time and well set up. I have always looked to get a warmer, more open tone from most of my basses, but I never realized how much precise control over the different frequencies can make. I am not into distortion for bass at all, so a few people suggested this unit. I am so glad I bought it! It enables you to custom tailor the sound of your bass more than you could imagine. One of my basses is an Epiphone Jack Casady, which is a warm, woody-sounding bass to begin with, but run through the Boss GEB-7, you can make it sound even warmer and open. I have found that boosting the lowest slider control just a little, and then boosting the mids to taste gives me the sound I like. I also use it with a custom Jazz bass and an Ibanez BTB. You have to experiment with the unit, because it responds a little differently to different pickups and between passive and active instruments, but it always helps. I use it to get a warmer sound, but it will also give you a harder, in-your-face metal tone. You just have to experiment with it a little. I never realized such a simple, inexpensive unit would due so much to change a bass' tone. It can also boost your signal, so it's the first step towards distortion if you want that. I have the MXR 10 Band. It has more control. It has lots of lights. Its good for acoustic but for live bass, more is not really better. This gets you close enough for live without a lot of fiddlin and diddlin. More intuitive than a parametric. Its solid. It has indents at the 0. Put it on top of your amp (not on the floor) to tweek as needed during sound check or later when you need to add more mids because the keyboard player/drummer drown you out.Go_Pats

I ordered this to replace the malfunctioning preamp in my Peavey Cirrus USA 5 string bass. Had to do some modification with the wiring since the factory pickups aren't EMGs. Sounds amazing! This is actually the third one that I've purchased (I installed one in my Spector Legend 5 Custom, one in my Peavey Cirrus USA 5, and THIS one that I'm going to install into my Cirrus USA 6).
