Guitar Amp Sim Pedal For Sale (2024 Update)

It arrived a few days ago from MF. I want to highlight what I like about it without repeating the contents of its manual. Bottom line, for my usage replacing a Fender black panel Deluxe, a spring reverb, and a Tube Screamer, it is excellent. I am using the Vibro King amp model for most of my tweaking, but I also set up the Twin Reverb (super clean), Super Reverb, and Marshall JCM800 (crunch even with the guitar volume relatively low). The Twin model would not distort without a boost included in the "scene" even with my guitar and the model volumes at 10. That was the one anomaly from my expectations. I like the Vibro King model, amplified by my QSC CP8 (on the floor, on its side, backside EQ set to floor monitor), and do not prefer my now sold Tone Master Deluxe. The first thing I did was download the 2022-10-31 Firmware update and install it. Instructions to put the pedal in "DFU" mode to accept the update were missing. A YouTube video found via Google explained to hold both foot switches while powering up. Next, I installed the main NuX App for my Mac. I disabled the third "scene" such that the "scene foot switch" becomes a "scene" toggle (one cleaner, one with the Tube Screamer engaged, both with spring reverb). I then went through the amp models I planned to use (two "scenes" each, which must be done individually) and set all the controls to 12 o'clock. I tweaked the amp, spring reverb, and Tube Screamer to taste. I now have three ways to boost for an overdriven solo starting with the Vibro King as my clean base: turn up the guitar, foot switch to the Tube Screamer "scene", or foot switch to the JCM800 amp model. I explain all this detail because it took about an hour and without this work the pedal is disappointing. The software was almost easy enough to use without the nonexistent manuals (to do it again it would take much less time). Once done, everything can be adjusted via the knobs and optionally saved with the left foot switch. No menus to navigate at a gig. You can see in the pictures that it is quite small (Tube Screamer for reference), weighs exactly 1 lb. (less than that Tube Screamer), and draws only 3 watts. Leaving it run over night only gets it to room temperature. My old HX Stomp would have been hot to the touch and required a 20-watt power supply. Is it a Universal Audio quality Twin Reverb, Super Reverb, JCM800, or Vibro King modeler? Impossible for me to know. But for what I want, a classic black panel 60s Fender amp tone, spring reverb, and foot switchable Tube Screamer, it is a complete solution in a small package. No aspect of IO is missing (XLR, USB-C, ¼", 3.5mm, MIDI over USB). It also has an effects loop, graphic EQ, all the usual reverb types, 1024 IR loader, a selection of boost/overdrive/compression pedal models, and a noise gate which I've not tried. If one of the amp models is acceptably flat response you could use its 1024 IR loader, reverb collection, and compressor collection for your acoustic guitar too. Wow! What's missing? For my usage a master volume not associated or saved with an amp model "scene" would be nice. It does make a click when switching amp models or "scenes". Sometimes when switching amp models there is a noticeable delay.Jon

It's a nice pedal as utility pedal for only needing the one effect. Enjoying the tremolo, reverb, flangers. You can set the effect to a preset (up to 24) and flip through them on the fly. Renaming the effect is a pain, having to use the dials! The distortion effects are weak but can be used with your dirty channel to be usable like using a fuzz otherwise it sounds thin and not usable. I'm not having any grounding issues and I have it powered through a pedal board brick. I have it running in front of an orange tube amps.BJ

About 100 pedals models for less than £100. Some in stereo and can be output in stereo or mono. Straight out of the box some models sound very good to me, I especially like the tremolos, some of the reverbs and delays. Also I quite like one of the chorus models (an effect that does not usually use) and one of the overdrives. Have to try tweaking the uni vibe and phasers but I'm sure there will be useable sounds in there My rating for sounds reflects my view that I find some bad and others excellent. It has plenty of features, is well made with a sturdy metal enclose, comes with its own power supply and is easy to use. All in all I think it is worth the price and worth considering if you want access a wide range of effects. Probably better for recording rather than using live.Reviewed by guitarguitar custome

This pedal is perfect for anyone who is running their complex delay/reverb/ambience stuff in an effects loop, but needs a 'swiss army knife' pedal for effects that need to go in front of the amp (distortion, wah, phaser, etc.). I was playing in the pit for our local HS musical last fall (they haven't had any electric guitarists…or bassists or drummers for that matter… in the student population for the last 7-8 years…I blame vocalist-centric reality TV shows….but I digress). The show was "Sister Act" and, unlike the R&B tinged '92 movie, the (2006) stage musical is all late 70's disco style. Needless to say, I needed a wah-wah pedal. Instead of shelling out the same amount for a decent 'one-trick-pony' wah pedal, I opted for this unit, as I have been looking for a multi-function 'in-front-of-the-amp' pedal for a while, and I already had an expression pedal for my keyboard. My expression pedal was the dirt cheap M-Audio plastic one that, according to Line6's own website, shouldn't work with this unit…except it did. Yes, even when toggling the "M-Audio/Other" switch on the underside of the pedal, at first It either didn't work at all, or worked backwards. But then, I discovered the genius programming built into this little gem. If you rock the EXP pedal either fullup or full down, you can manually set the heel/toe values for ANY of the 5 adjustable parameters in a given effect. SO…….In the tube/tape delay effect, for example, I have it set so the repeats, drive/gain, and "wow/flutter" all increase (each by individually set amounts) when I rock the EXP pedal from heel to toe. Add to that the fact that this is a dual stomp switch pedal with a dedicated tap-tempo switch, and you have an ultra-controlable delay unit. My only niggle is in the auto-wah/'tron' department. While they have a few dynamics-based filter effects models, only one is a dedicated Mu-Tron/envelope-filter type effect. What's more, since they only have the one model, and only 5 adjustable parameters, they decided to allot some of those 5 precious parameter knobs to things like "high-/low-/band-pass filter" and left out the crucial "sensitivity" setting. My rig is old-school; vintage non-master-volume amp + tube screamer + THD Hotplate. All my gain/distortion is controlled via my guitar's volume knob. The problem is, with no 'sensitivity' setting on the 'Tron' effect model, you only get decent results if your guitar volume is full up on or near 10. Unfortunately, most of the situations where you want to use this type of effect are with a relatively clean tone. But, since I can only get said cleaner tone by rolling back my guitar's volume, I don't have enough signal to trigger the wah effect. Instead of including some of the 'cool-but-of-limited-usefulness' models like "Comet Trails" in this section of the pedal, I wish Line6 would have had multiple 'Tron' models (high-/low-/band-pass) with sensitivity parameter adjustments all 'round. Full disclosure; what with my fore mentioned rig, I have not at all explored the distortion section of this pedal, and thus cannot comment on it's quality or lack thereof. I have at least dabbled in the modulation section, and done extensive exploration in the filter, delay, and Reverb sections, and found them all adequate to superior in tone and 'controlability' (OK, maybe not a real word…yet). These cabinet simulators are okay when it comes to recording low to medium gain tone. The problem starts when you compare what these IR's give you compared with a high gain amp recorded at high volume. I've yet to hear an IR that captures the elusive loud quality of a cranked speaker cabinet. It's a bit like comparing an mp3 with an analogue recording. They sound fine until you do a side by side with the original. That's when you hear what's missing. A cheap, usable solution, but not them same.neil.the.hippy

Ive never used sims before. I record the old fashion way. Eventually I came to my senses and tried it out. I get really convincing amp tones now direct recording without bothering anybody. I use a tube preamp to give it some organicness and the radar really handle speaker types and power tube arrangements and eq settings . Ive loaded other irs into it with great results. I get a slight latency but doesnt bother me to the point of playing out of time. Ive tried out of pedal board to radar than a powered speaker and could use like an amp in a pinch, very convincing amp tones. Super happy with this product, glad I finally entered the modern world.cdoch8789_ncltfoyxr

There are 2 things about this pedal that make me feel it's pointless. Firstly the interface makes it near impossible to edit. You need to download the software and edit it with a pc. If you have a pc, you don't need to store your IR's on this pedal. If the software was available as an app, it would help. But it isn't. 2nd. I can understand the logic behind miniaturizing the pedal, but miniaturizing the manual so its near unreadable is just stupid. The PDF is a far better option. On the whole, an expensive way to store your IR's. Not a product I'd recommend.neil.the.hippy

Awesome valve preamp pedal. So much more than an overdrive/distortion pedal. Running it 4CM with my Boss GT100 and 100W Marshall JCM900. Even my neighbours think it sounds awesome and asked me to crank it up louder so they can hear it in their garden! I added this to my Orange Dark Terror amp and it sounds great. The Dark Terror by itself is amazing, but it only has one channel. This pedal effectively adds two more channels, But I’m not here to talk about the Orange. This preamp pedal gives you all kinds of options from barely breaking up, to screaming, full metal high gain sounds, and even with the gain cranked, keeps individual note definition for extended chords if that’s your thing. I use mine with the amp through mode (connected through the effects loop) and in my opinion, that’s where it really shines. I’ve tried it between guitar and amp like a regular overdrive pedal and it sounds pretty great that way too. The bright switch seems to help dial in the pedal to the amp, but I’ve only tried it with the one amp. I have no complaints at all. Would buy again for sure.lackhand

I bought one for my live rig and one for my home rig. The live rig one works well however the home rig one died. When it works it works well but the lightly used of the two didn't hold up.Joe

I have used countless pedals in my time and I can recommend a few brilliant ones But I have to say this is a revelation!! Its the best most versatile pedal I have ever used and the combinations are exceptional and incredibly authentic. The sampling used to produce the various guitar microphone cabinet simulation are. Truly exceptional and for this kind of money you would never need another guitar pedal and you can eliminate dozens of pedals on your board one good amp and you have almost every combination of different amps and setting you will ever need I have it going through a pre amp and doesnt matter if you run it into an amp or a desk it has every amp etc you could ever wish for at a click INCREDIBLE !! Good amp sim pedal. Nice variety of amp & I like the cab sim pairings (although the CAB module expands those choices immensely). Main issue with this pedal: VERY NOISY, even by itself. Gets even noisier when trying to stack it with another drive pedal. Most of the effects seem to be the harder-clipping distortion or even metal style, although the cleaner amp sims seem like they cut down on the noise significantly (but still not low enough to stack drive or dirt pedals). JMHO thus far. Still haven't found the right combination of noise gating or silencing to quiet this one down yet, but my experimentation is still ongoing. YMMV.John

great value; plenty volume on tap; treble and bass very usable; does color tone a bit but in a good thick way; less bass helps clear up the sound a bit. with small toggle switch in down pos perhaps a little more transparent and with toggle up adds a little more girth to the tone. flat response with vol around 1 o'clock, gain at 7 o'clock, bass at around 10 o'clock and treble around 3 o'clock (at least with my circuit…); gain begins to gets very "gainy" adding significant volume at around 10 o'clock and from will continue to increase to an extreme full tone slightly mid scooped distortion. not designed to be a big bumble bee crackly fuzz but like its label states an "overdrive" and will defiantly push your amp into breakup from mild to extreme.baycman

This pedal has gotta be one of the most underrated OD pedals out there…. especially given its price point. I have A,B'd this thing against modded BD-2s, modded OD-3's, and the SD-1W and the Mojomojo is just bigger and less tinty. I dont want it to be, but it is. It is a wonderful sounding OD and is great for OD rhythm sounds. It is in the cranked Marshall class of OD's so not to be confused with the green OD pedal. The only area that some of my modded ODs beat it in is sustain. It does tail off on lead stuff sooner than some more expensive pedals. That is the only area that it doesn't win though. You can also use this as an always on boost as well. All in all this thing always seems to knock more expensive pedals off my board time and time again. Highly recommend this pedal and at it's price point it should be in all OD aficionados collection.KL

I was reluctant to buy this pedal because of it's simplicity. It is now on the top of my list of pedals. I was using it at first for parts of songs that need a punch. It works great for that, but now I find myself using it all the time. I have dialed it in with a Blues Driver pedal and a delay with some reverb and it is the sound I have been looking for. This pedal is so simple but so awesome. I highly recommend it.Mark C

I've had this pedal for about maybe 5 months, great pedal. The best thing to do is to always read your manual because this particular pedal shuts off. That feature is to save you battery power, or just being on too long when you walk away. I hadn't gotten use to that at first. It pays to read the manual to figure out how to do it. But the Selections in where the layout is for the different tones, for rock and roll, blues, heavy metal, and R&B is it great pedal.astringmusic

It' easy to blow an afternoon exploring the wide variety of sounds this pedal can produce. While many of the effects are great there are quite a few duds mixed in there. You just have to play. There doesn't seem to be that much logic as to how the effects are grouped. You really need to write down your favorites. Out of 100 effects I think almost anyone can find 20 that they really like. I was looking at purchasing a Helix LT and upon researching I came across the Pod Go Wireless. It does everything I required from the Helix but at less than half the price, size and weight. You can dial in some great tones, I use it through an 80w Marshall combi straight into the FX return (turning off the cab sim on the Pod) and it sounds very impressive. The amount of effects to choose from is incredible and you can tweak so many variables to get that perfect tone. The wah treadle is very good but it’s not so great when used as a volume pedal as it doesn’t seem to gradually increase/decrease the volume, it’s almost on/off. The wireless feature is very good, I’ve not had any connection issues and don’t have to worry about treading on my cable, which I’m very prone to. Overall, for what I need in a jamming/garage band capacity it is perfect and I’m very, very pleased with the purchase. PMT delivered the next day, it was very well packaged and was the best price I found on the internet.Martin M.

BUT, if you need something that sounds somewhat acoustic-like in a band mix and don't want to carry an extra (not to mention fragile) instrument, then this will work just fine. Not authentic, not great, not amazingly life-like, just FINE. With realistic expectations this pedal is as good as any for what it intends to do. I use this in an A/B/Y rig. Tha A side goes to my regular pedalboard and amps. The B side goes to this pedal and a volume pedal direct to FOH via a direct box. I get the "acoustic" sound fed back to me through my monitor (or ears if that applies occasionally). I can have straight electric, straight "acoustic", or use the Y option to blend the two to my liking. Works for me, YMMV. I play "for-hire" mostly and my clients love the versatility of my setup. Also, DO NOT run this pedal through a tube amp if you want the best results. It will definitely work best either run straight to FOH or through a clean solid-state amp. Have read many reviews both positive and negative about this pedal. The negatives were not specific but didn't hear their guitar and amp give an acoustic sound with this pedal. The positives were sometimes vague but they liked it. Then some went on to say they liked it not through a tube amp but through an acoustic amp or a PA system. I HOOKED IT up through a very small practice amp set clean and used the emulation out into a mixer then into a low power full range PA type system. Sounded excellent with neck single coil. Didn't try it with the middle single coil nor the bridge humbucker. I am very happy to have this pedal.Kenmorek

If you are looking for a good practice amp modeler that is compact and has quite an array of effects and amps than the Pocket Pod should do the trick. I gig regularly and felt the Pocket Pod would be ideal for gigs where I didn't want to haul my tube amp around. Sound wise I'm not disappointed in hooking my pocket pod up to a sound board. However, where this product ultimately fails is there is NO On/Off switch! To activate the pod you plug your guitar directly into the input jack and it comes on. Once on you pretty much have to leave the guitar plugged in for your entire set or risk getting a loud pop through the PA system. And leaving the pod plugged in makes the pod get very warm and drains your batteries. I have a circuit breaker guitar cable so I can switch guitars without getting the dreaded pop in the PA system. I'm sure the people at Line 6 cut out the On/Off feature to save room. But I've never seen any piece of equipment that can't be turned off with a button. Satisfactory sounds but more headaches than it's worth for gigging musicians.O'neil Blues

Its great i love how it has all kinds of sffects and i can use both my guitar and phone as i play along. Great for portable playing so i dont have to bring the big head amp everywhere i want to take my guitar. Also the battery life is amazing if there's a new version of this i would so buy it.Hector

I imagine a lot of guys are like me. They can't practice at home at gig levels. This Rock Bug lets me do just that. I can practice at gig levels. Plus, I can take it anywhere. That's what I bought it for!!Uncle Dude

The Rock Bug sounded like a very promising addition to my pedal board so I could stop dragging an amp back and forth to gigs. However, it was so noisy that the sound guy had to cut my 10-15kHz by -12db just to make it tolerable.This does not and can not replace an amp. You are better off getting a cheap combo amp with a direct out or invest 10 times more to get a full multi-effects modeling processor.Winzlo-CSa5U

I got the C.A.B M+ to go with my Laney Lionheart L5 Studio which replace a Strymon Iridium. The Cab sims in the M+ are really good, but the addition of the noise gate, EQ, Enhancer and Reverb raised it above the competition. Simple on devise editing and selection of presets makes it feel more like a traditional effects pedal, but the ability to connect wirelessly to my iPad for easier editing is just brilliant. Honestly better than I could have imagined. The app is easy to use and loaded with so many great abs and speakers I just could never afford to buy if not for digital. It’s the perfect fix for front of house sends. No worry of mic placement on the cab. Or kicking the mic over. The IRs are insane. Great product. I own Helix, Headrush and fractal and I find myself using this the most with tube amps and cabs . Perfect blend of tubes and digital.Brian
