I bought this back In 2018, hoping to boost my output tones. I have a Roland electric kit that I run through our PA. The difference is night and day. I don't have to raise the drums main volume or the PA's input level as much to achieve the full sounding drum tones I met get. My bassist even bought one for his rig and has been extremely happy with his pedal as well. It's worth every penny. My only minor complaint is the placement of the AC power input. It's directly alongside the cable input. It's a little crowded there. Placing it top center on back side would be a better location especially if using it in a pedal board. Otherwise, I'd have given it 5 stars.
This pedal is alright. I use it sidechained into my compressor so I can't really comment on the tone. But it is pretty flimsy. I can see it eventually breaking in some way or another. I wish they had maybe used a metal casing instead of plastic. Also there should have been some detents put into the sliders. But for the price I guess I can't complain too much. They have gotten expensive over the years (along with everything else) but it's history and reputation speaks for itself. I've had various Boss pedals over the course of 30 years and I have never, ever, not once had one that failed or malfunctioned. I wanted a cheaper alternative but what made me commit to this pedal, once again, was it's true bypass/buffer capabilities. I'm using this one differently than I've customarily have used them in the past. This is to be used in a pedalboard dedicated to an electrified Kalimba (pictured below). I'll be wiring it up soon. Perhaps EQ is not the most exciting of pedals compared to other effects, but this really does make an enormous difference to your sound and help you get the best from the rest of your gear. Boost the mids to stand out from bass. Scoop the mids and boost bass/treble to sound like Metallica. Use the independent Level control as an overall volume boost (or limit – but who wants that?!) Brilliant on-the-spot tone-shaping tool. Opens up virtually infinite sound possibilities, very handy when stacking overdrives with some or a lot of overlap in their tonal voicings. Also great for approximating the tones of completely different styles of pickups. Small adjustments tend to work best, a subtle nudge of the slider in the problematic frequency band is often all you need. Equally, you can throw that out and morph the tonal profile to something incredibly different. After my tuner it's hands-down the most indispensable pedal on my board. Allows me to shape the one tone control on the Pro Junior IV into even more harmonic/percussive/airy/creamy/bell-like territory. After long research and a round of tips from pros, I decided an EQ could help me refining the tones and finding the "sweet spot" for my rig. This unit has several advantages over the alternatives, mostly the number of frequency sliders and the 4 slot memory (+ the manual, which allows for 5 EQ setups to be reached quickly). It responds perfectly, to every slight change. The LCD screen shows the curve interactively, which is very helpful for the configuration. The main use I will initially have for it includes: tweaking the sound of humbuckers (to single coilish) an P90s. To play around, basically… As a booster, with a memory patch adjusted for that purpose. Lastly, it is not exclusive for guitar, as the the spectrum includes lower and higher cuts. I own the Ibanez SR 305 for two years now. I have noticed that the pick ups arnt the greatest and when I played with my band I couldn't hear the high notes well. So I was looking into getting the SR505, which I still want more then anything, until I came across this beauty, I actually read it in a review and so with my budget I new spending this much instead would be better. I bought it and when i plugged it in andset it up how I wanted it it is omg! It makes your notes soo much clear, And now i can hear ever string I play equally. It's just wow. I have always looked to get a warmer, more open tone from most of my basses, but I never realized how much precise control over the different frequencies can make. I am not into distortion for bass at all, so a few people suggested this unit. I am so glad I bought it! It enables you to custom tailor the sound of your bass more than you could imagine. One of my basses is an Epiphone Jack Casady, which is a warm, woody-sounding bass to begin with, but run through the Boss GEB-7, you can make it sound even warmer and open. I have found that boosting the lowest slider control just a little, and then boosting the mids to taste gives me the sound I like. I also use it with a custom Jazz bass and an Ibanez BTB. You have to experiment with the unit, because it responds a little differently to different pickups and between passive and active instruments, but it always helps. I use it to get a warmer sound, but it will also give you a harder, in-your-face metal tone. You just have to experiment with it a little. I never realized such a simple, inexpensive unit would due so much to change a bass' tone. It can also boost your signal, so it's the first step towards distortion if you want that. I have the MXR 10 Band. It has more control. It has lots of lights. Its good for acoustic but for live bass, more is not really better. This gets you close enough for live without a lot of fiddlin and diddlin. More intuitive than a parametric. Its solid. It has indents at the 0. Put it on top of your amp (not on the floor) to tweek as needed during sound check or later when you need to add more mids because the keyboard player/drummer drown you out.Go_Pats

Within minutes of setting it up it already showed me that my system was having feedback from the input sorce and showed me exactly what dB was affected the most by the feedback. Wasn't expecting more than a good D. I. Box. After using it at my band rehearsal it's now become essential. It has made my ashdown drive pedal obsolete, cleaned up the bottom end in my tone and the whole band. I use a Spector Legend 6 Bass. I'm In a band with two bassists, drums and vocals. We both Bi-amp. A bass amp and a guitar amp. Getting these to all work together can be a real headache… But this has improved things so much, that the other bassist has one now. Tone very comparable to an ampeg type- Growly, very tight and controllable bottom end, doesn't "fart out" on Max. Top end can be moved between airy and crunchy. Build quality It is plastic, but I have no worries. I'm sure if I stomped on the 1/4" Jack, it would damage, but I keep mine on the pedal board anyway. Value Beyond comparison. I can't think of a better spent 20. The sansamp it's cloning is at least 8 times more expensive. And although it's better in some areas, (metal casing etc), sound-wise there's little to choose between them. At this price, in the unlikely event it broke, I'd just buy another. I have recorded using this, and it has very little noise, But massive tone. If it sounds good in an amplifier, it really comes into its own recorded. Obviously with Behringer you are likely trying to save some cash instead of getting something "name brand." When I would record DI bass guitar, I used to run it through a distortion or fuzz pedal to get a more natural sounding gain. The V-Tone pedal is very good in that regard. Turn the presence, drive, and blend knobs all the way up and adjust the EQ to your liking and you get a mean crunch while keeping the clack of loose strings. That is about the limit of this pedal's potential, at least for me. Any adjustment to those knobs to turn down the distortion results in a sound nearly identical with just a clean DI with no pedal or preamp at all. It's as if turning them up from 1 to 8 has no effect until you get them to 9 and 10. Another flaw I've found is the high gain settings bring along a high pitched whistle that occurs randomly during playing, though it seems to happen with a lot of string rattle from long, held notes. It doesn't stand out when it's mixed with drums and a wall of guitars, though. I've only used it as a DI for recording, never as a preamp or DI for a PA or anything like that, it's possible it could be really good for those. I am happy with it to record bass for my doom, black metal, and mathcore kind of music, but wouldn't go to it for anything else.Jacob
I recently purchased the guitar version (GDI21) and was quick to get this bass version soon after. I own a rack mount Tech21 Sansamp RBI unit which has been excellent for me thru the years live. Also, their V1 VT Bass pedal has been a mainstay for me in a live setting. This is a very good clone of the BDDI with potential issues if used in a live setting. These are: Cheezy and fragile On/Off foot switch, and Illegible knobs. I have no idea where the knobs are set at any given time. Aside from that, I like this as a desk top companion to my other tone shapers such as the MXR M80 and M81 Bass Preamps. For little money, you can't lose in purchasing this for a home studio bass pre.Reed in CA

Bought this equalizer as an experiment to use between my behringer mini mixer and powered monitors. Monitors have no tone control, just volume and sounded a bit harsh in the mid frequencies. Was able to dial in a nice warm tone using this equalizer. No noise. No rack mounted eq to haul around. It was a win win. Perfect for sweetening up a small PA system. Will also use at some point on guitar and electric piano. Although the case is plastic and not metal, the device seems fairly solidly constructed. Have been using with a 9v battery with no issues. I've been playing guitar for several decades, mostly acoustic. I purchased this several weeks ago to add tone shaping through the effects loop of an Orange Micro Dark at home. The equalizer has been great for this application. The 7 sliders provide a near infinite amount of adjustment, allowing you to experiment and fine tune your tone. In addition, it is extremely quiet. The pedal feels heavy enough, but is made of (seemingly tough) plastic. The sliders are effective but I'm not convinced of their ruggedness through live gigs. This is my first Behringer product so have no first hand experience with long term reliability. I am very happy with this equalizer and for the price wonder why I hadn't added it long ago – it really is much more effective than few tone control knobs.C-ville Brent
This is a nice EQ pedal. It worked just fine and was 100% functional when I bought it new. The pedal is relatively quiet when pushing the front end of my Carvin low-gain amp. In the front of my Marshall however it was a little too noisy. The EQ parameters were quite usable and did a nice job shaping my tone. The gain function was less usable, again because of the added noise (hiss). This noise was apparent using the battery or a 9v adapter. The quality of the pedal is fine, but its 100% made of plastic. I had no usability problems with it, but you should be aware that it is in fact all plastic. Overall its worth 4 stars because for $25 its a great deal. However I spent a little more on a used MXR 10-band w a 18 volt power supply that is much more quiet when pushing my Marshall. If you want some EQ shaping and don't want to drop a lot of money, this pedal is probably your best bet. You have to spend about four times as much (or more) to get higher quality, and you have to decide whether that higher quality is worth four times the price.derald75

Love my SG but it's a short jump from dark to muddy and this eq makes all the difference. The volume and gain controls allow you to get the exact tone/volume/presence/sound you want. Is the only pedal i use for rhythm and it stays on all the time. I'd never used an eq before and while you probably will spend some time getting it just right it's pretty simple once you see how it works. The settings in the instruction manual are fine but i think the best thing to do is set everything at zero and adjust from there. Left side is lows, right side is highs and you just bring out whatever is lacking in your tone now. You won't regret getting one of these.JP
This pedal is badass!! It works really well in the effects loop of my Blackstar HT-5RS. Putting it in the effects loop helps dramatically with the unwanted noise this pedal can produce. If you use it in the front of your amp, you will probably have to use a noise suppressor at high gain/volume levels. It really adds a new dimension to your guitar sound, though. If you have a warm sounding amp, this pedal can add a lot of high end to your sound. Also, used in conjunction with a British, high-gain amp, you can nail the Randy Rhoads sound. Built very solid, this pedal really does do what it says it will do. I like the fact that besides the 10 bands it also has a Volume slider and a Gain slider. This makes this one very versatile pedal. Easy to operate, Simple to understand, Very quiet signal processing and it comes with it's own power supply rather than sold separately. I can see why they hold their resale value on ebay. I put mine on top of the amp and run it through one of my loops so it is much more convenient than having it on the pedal board. But, either way works just fine. It's great for room shaping when moving from one venue to another and tweaks my guitar tone perfectly every time. Very little movement on the sliders produce quite a bit of adjustment so there is always plenty of headroom in all frequencies. Would buy it again. Would recommend it highly. You will be happy with it. I also like the way the sliders light up making it much easier to use in a dark environment. Plus the lights on the frequency sliders switch on and off with the foot switch so you can tell if it's on or not. The Volume and Gain sliders are always lit so you can see there is power to the unit weather in use or not.mycle812

Overall: I have put this preamp in two of my basses now and I absolutely love it. Super easy to install with no issues!!! This preamp has several cool features I love. For me the best part is being able to select the exact mid frequency you want to boost or cut. It’s also super cool that there are four different curves you can choose from on the treble boost/cut. All these features make for a very versatile preamp you can use to dial in any sound you want right on your bass.In response to the other review on here I don’t know what that guys problem was. When you install the knobs you just have to make sure you leave a little space between the knobs and the nut below them. Overall: Dont even bother with this junk…..Will never EVER buy again. EVER!!!!If I could give this system a 0 instead of 1 star I would. I bought this set close to a year ago and it has been a nightmare the whole time. The biggest problem with this system is the "d" shape shafts on the concentric pots. I tried knobs that I had ordered for this upgrade and they did not work very well because the upper small knob kept dragging on the top of the bottom larger knob. I contacted EMG and they said that they sold knobs on their website so I ordered those knobs. They did the same thing. I contacted them again and they wanted me to send them the set with the plate where the pots were attached to. I sent them the whole thing yet they could not fix the problem and sent it back to me with no solution. They are not willing to give me back my money so a year later and I am still stuck with this useless set from EMG. I have installed many high end preamps and also cheap preamps from China and all the pots are always smooth. EMG should be embarrassed to sell this junk. Right now it is still in its box not being used because when I tried to use it the knobs kept sticking and it was very embarrassing. NEVER AGAIN will I by from EMG. They have really let me down. I am at the process of contacting the commerce department in their area to file a complaint. All this calamity because they want to save a buck.Sotero

I use this as a preamp for my Telecaster into a high powered steel guitar amp. The pedal steel amp which can be a little sterile with the 2nd instrument. The Q-Strip sounds great for the Tele.
