Fender Hot Rod Deluxe 112 80W 1X12 Guitar Extension Cab For Sale (2024 Update)

I bought this cabinet with the intention of beefing up my Hot Rod deluxe which it did. The combination of closed back from this cabinet and the open back of the deluxe resulted in a much more richer sound not to mention that at 4 ohms with the cabinet the amp seems to be more responsive to my playing. It also looks cool sitting under the Hot Rod Deluxe III. It not only sounds great with the Hot Rod but with my 30 watt PRS amp head, a Quilter 200 and boy was I surprised when I plugged in my Mesa Mark IV. Awesome little cabinet for the money. My nomad was a single 12 speaker with an open back cab and needed a little more bass. the sealed fender cabinet was the exact same dimensions and fits nicely under the boogie. Sound was as I expected, bass increase as well as a tight sound from the closed back cabinet. Also raised the nomad to a better overall height. Very happy with my purchase. I did not give it 5 stars for several reasons. 1) made in Mexico which I expected for the price but that is the problem! Speaker jack fell out of the back of the cabinet when I removed the cable. Compared to yesteryear and I have owned a lot of fender equipment construction was much better. To repair the speaker jack and not go through returning the cabinet I opened the back to see what holds the jack in place. Half the screws used to seal the back of the cabinet were to short and already stripped out. There were two different length screws used and none were long enough to do the job properly! They were #6 wood screws so a trip to Lowes for proper hardware about 8 duckets worth of new fasteners (went to #8 wood screws and new finishing washers) took care of the problem. The jack is another issue that will require a large fender washer and a new jack with longer threads. about 6 duckets in hardware to repair properly. The strips of wood that hold the back on are only pressed wood and one side was spilt open from not predrilling holes and forcing the screws to create there own holes when installed. This is a time saver at the factory but poor practice in my opinion! The front baffle that holds the speaker in place was held in with 6 bolts, nuts and washers. All were loose and if I did not retighten these the vibration from the speaker would have caused these all to come apart! So over all construction was less then stellar and about what I expected for the price. Still final quality checks should have caught all of this on the assembly line.Strat Blaster

I bought this to go with a Tone King Gremlin head. I figured a fender speaker would pair well with a fender clone amp. The enclosure is quite nice. The speaker however is not. I did read the poor reviews the celestion 70/80 gets online, they are spot on. This speaker is so shrill I felt like my ears were going to bleed. It has a pronounced mid scoop. Instead of returning I decided I like the fender box enough ( and the reasonable price compared to others ) and bought a different speaker. After swapping the 70/80 with a Eminence Cannabis rex, it really sounds great.Josh B

I love this for the portability factor. I use it with my Benson hot rod amp, or with my '57 deluxe head, or as an extension for my ac15. I normally stack them but they work great for spreading sound on opposite sides of the room.Toneseaker

I've been playing guitar since a kid. My Dad used to own a guitar store where he was an amp technician. I'll always remember sneaking into his room when he wasn't home and playing his salmon pink Strat and Twin reverb amp. There was always a magic in them and they really inspired me. Fast forward 30 years and I've grown up just like him. Been playing professionally for a long time through some pretty nice gear but something in me always wanted to revisit that amp, it just had the perfect sounds I played lots of amps before choosing a Marshall 50w plexi as my amp of choice for gigging and it was good, no doubt a about that, played it for almost 15 years straight until one day buying that Twin I'd always so wished I also had. Found I played it far more than the plexi so actually ended up selling the Marshall and just sticking with the 65' reissue! It does everything the Marshall did and more I think. Playing them side by side before making the final decision to sell set my mind at ease because I couldnl get the same sounds from the Twin. Even did a little A/B recording with overdrive and no one could pick which one was which I play mainly classic rock and this amp is everything I'll ever need. Small wattage Amos always sound and feel small to me so was never interested in them, of it's too loud turn it down, the volume is far better than the plexi because that one sat on a hair trigger, really difficult to get a bedroom volume out of. The Twin is quote easy and pot smooth to use. Plexi goes from 0-almost full volume at half way to 1 on the dial. Love itJez

I received the amp yesterday and have only played it (both the vibrato and normal channel) for about half an hour in my living room, but I was so impressed that I wanted to go ahead and write a review, which I almost never do. I've been playing electric guitar almost 50 years and have owned many different amps, almost all Marshall or Fender, including a late 60s or early 70s 100 watt Marshall (no master volume), a mid 70s silver face Twin Reverb and Dual Showman, a 1987X 50 watt Marshall reissue, a '59 Bassman reissue (before the LTD version), a '65 Super Reverb reissue, a Twinolux, and a standard '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue. The only other amp I have currently is a wine red '65 Deluxe Reverb reissue (DRRI) with a P12Q Jensen speaker. The '65 DRRI has been one of my favorites. I like the 6V6 sound and I think it's hard to get a bad sound out of that amp. I really like the clarity of the 64 Custom Deluxe Reverb compared to my '65 DRRI. It is noticeably brighter than my '65 DRRI, but part of that may be because the '64 has a C12Q speaker while my current '65 DRRI has a P12Q speaker. Since reverb and vibrato work on both channels of this '64 Custom Deluxe Reverb, the vibrato channel is like having the bright switch on (it reminds me of the way my super reverb sounded with the bright switch on) and the normal channel is like having the bright switch off. I like the way both the reverb and vibrato work and sound on this '64 more than the '65 DRRI. The same guitar (a Strat with '69 custom shop pickups) has noticeably longer sustain when I play it through this '64 compared to my '65 DRRI. Some people have mentioned a possible problem with noise (hiss or hum) from this amp, due to the way the channels are connected together, but I hear virtually no noise at all from this amp, not when it is sitting still (with both normal and vibrato channels turned up to 3), and not when I turn any of the knobs. I wish I had bought this amp in the first place instead of the '65 DRRI.Kenneth

A lot of the reviews posted here are for Strats, so I'm not sure what's going on. Anyway, I bought the red sparkle Squier Bullet Tele. The finish is gorgeous and that's what prompted me to do a spontaneous purchase. I have only experienced owning USA Teles, but I've played some Squiers that really impressed me. This one? Not so much. I don't detect any finish on the back of the neck although I'm sure it has a sealer of some sort. The body finish is nice, but the bridge hardware is cheaply made and I'll be replacing that for sure. Same goes for the tuners. I'm pretty sure it has some high frets because it goes dead starting at the 10th fret, but some of that was back bow. I loosened the truss and got rid if it, but now when I sight down the neck the forward bow is pretty obvious. I don't notice the frets being sharp on the ends. It now plays plays pretty good after sitting long enough for the truss Rod to settle, but I may need to tighten it just a little to get rid of some of the forward bow. The neck has a very comfortable profile. The body is thinner than my American Teles, but it doesn't bother me – in fact it's lighter which I enjoy. The body is Poplar and that's fine by me. I may leave the back of the neck alone for now because it actually feels pretty good, aesthetics are certainly lacking, but the body makes up for that. I'm sure with a little patience and help from my friends I'll have a nice instrument. All the basics are there. As is, it's not all that great, but still better than my first electric guitar! -!an old Kalamazoo single pickup thing with a bolt on neck back in the mid sixties. Like the title says, this thing has potential. I probably couldn't buy a finished body for what I paid.Ronnie

I bought my black metallic Squier Bullet eight years ago when GC was having a Columbus Day sale. I was looking for a guitar to which I could permanently mount my Roland GR-33 guitar synth's GK2a pickup. Previously I had the pickup mounted on my '96 Strat, and I didn't like this fit because I couldn't close my Strat's case with the pickup installed. I have a gig bag for this Squier, and it fits fine in the bag with pickup installed. Anyway, about the guitar. Right out of the box, it played great, requiring only a minimal amount of action adjustment. I was surprised at how good the pickups sounded, it being a Bullet and all. But the humbucker sounds especially nice when playing the guitar through my Marshall. The neck pickup has a decent sound, but not quite up to the snuff of a good alnico pickup. Still, for what the guitar cost, I really can't complain. If I want to, at some later date, I can always change out the neck pickup to a better alnico model. One thing I especially like about this black Bullet is its looks. The photos here at GC don't show it off all that well, but the guitar body's finish is metallic and the pickguard is a heavy metal flake. It looks spectacular under the lights. And the black hardware does a great job of completing that black look. The Bullet's body is thinner than a typical Strat or Squier Affinity or Classic Vibe body. The result is a light weight guitar, but there is no sacrifice in tone.Michael

I would first like to begin with- I normally would be giving a 5 star rating of this unit/Squier, as I have typically never had problems prior to the recent/earlier this year upset regarding shipping containers/etc being paused/sitting in the ocean/etc, delaying container delivery. PLEASE READ ON FOR FULL EXPLANATION. Two imperative points- 1. The fret ends were so sharp, when I say it was not playable (both sides/neck in its entirety), I mean, it was not playable (THE DATE OF INSPECTION WAS EARLIER THIS YEAR, AND I IMMEDIATELY ASSOCIATED THE FRET ENDS PROBLEM BEING DUE TO THE SHIPS BEING DELAYED/SITTING IN THE OCEAN/ETC- It looked to me like maybe between March and July of this year, although, I couldn't quite make out the stamped month). As well, the serial # of the guitar, of course, was of this year/'22. I maintain/work on most all my guitars, and I normally would've tightened up the fret ends myself, however, there was a hairline crack on the red sparkle finish at the bass side neck joint (which i just couldn't accept, visually), as well as a small tooling gash along the top edge of the headstock. The replacement/reordered guitar arrives tomorrow. 2. THE NEWER UNITS (AS, ONCE AGAIN, THIS IS A 2022-BUILT UNIT) ARE TOP-MOUNT/STRING THROUGH THE BACK OF THE BRIDGE, NOT "STRING-THRU" as the description indicates (and, with Squier bridge mounting, these are 5-screw mount plates, which, if ever you want to upgrade your hardware, particularly, w/the bridge, you must find an aftermarket unit that is "string through the back", along w/the correct string spacing (with Squier, they're 54mm, typically), and you'll typically need to redrill given it's rare to find plates that have Squier mounting dimensions that provided string through the back holes. I'm upgrading to a Babicz, given the results found. Also, there are two string trees (the second being a tree for both the D and G strings), and it looks great, actually, with both. Overall, I was impressed with the finish, as it was nearly flawless (aside from the hairline finish crack mentioned previously). The fretwire/fretwork, felt great….I found maybe two or so "slight" dead spots, which weren't enough of a "ping", or string buzz to be of concern, or critiquing the fretwork negatively. Rather, I was impressed with the fretwork. As well, it's important to note that the mounting of the bridge, along with the neck positioning/etc, was spot-on. No misalignment of the bridge mount/etc (and the same goes for the nut spacing). I've always been impressed with what Fender/Squier/Jackson are putting out. The quality is typically quite high…as for this unit, the quality is high, but the results of the environmental dilemma with either being stuck in a container offshore, or, sitting in a facility for weeks/months/etc, have had quite the impact on this guitar. As an important example, I had purchased a Bullet Tele last year (the unit in Burst color offered here through MF), and it was/is flawless, and I completely upgraded every part. As I own approx'ly 53 guitars ranging primarily from ESP to Jackson (some of which in the better than $2K range), I love to take what's titled as a "beginner" guitar, and totally hotrod it with high end parts (such is the case w/this guitar). As mentioned above, I've reordered the guitar, as MusiciansFriend provided me a generous discount (without having to ask) to accommodate me. Upgrades- 1. Babicz Full Contact Tele "Ashtray" bridge Gold, 2. Genuine Fender Gold control plate, 3. Fender Infinity Gold strap locks, 4. Gold input jack Ferrule, 5. I bought this amp to have a small, cheap portable amp to play harmonica through. For that, it is decent enough. I use a Shure bullet mic and the amp produces good enough tone and is plenty loud for practice or small gigs. When I plug my tele into it the clean channel is decent and clear, but the overdrive channel is junk and hurts my ears. I would rather run the clean channel and use a fuzz or distortion pedal. So that being said it is decent enough to practice licks on and it is tiny so it tucks away easy. If you look around you can find a bigger amp with more features used for the same price but if you want a new amp, this one is probably worth what they charge for it. I would only buy it if you have a specific purpose for it though.Roy

It's small, and pretty portable. However, the sound quality is trash, given the speaker is tiny, but the overdrive is just horrible. If you buy this, try returning it. If you can't return it, just get a fuzz pedal and leave it on clean. Imo, just buy the mustang lt25-50Hotdog Games

The 65 SRRI is a very interesting amp that I've had quite a good amount of experience with now, owning a total of 3 of the reissues, 1 from 2001 and 2 from 2017. In my estimation first and foremost, the amp is too loud. If using this for anything but LOUD outdoor/indoor shows, than you're wasting your time and money. The good qualities of this amp are that it handles treble frequencies unlike any way I've ever heard an amp before. Not to be cliche, but it can really only be experienced what "touch-sensitivity" means in this amp. It's a really weird experience because you hear things you don't normally hear, and they're pronounced really articulately. This in my opinion is why Texas Flood sounded the way it did, there's all these harmonics going on that aren't normally produced at low volumes, in a 1×12 cabinet. So now the negatives, this amp is not a jazz amp, it's not a metal or even high-gain amp. It's clean, it's loud, and that's how it works. The 10-inch speakers cut out alot of bottom end that 12 inch speakers give, so you get a very narrow, focused frequency range. I think the speakers themselves and the voicing of the amp in combination give you that sound, but nonetheless the amp doesn't lend itself to anything less than bright, tight, and focused. It doesn't sway from that sound no matter how you EQ it. How I used the amp was in my apartment and it's too loud, too specific of a sound, and is just a real problem unless you need both of the qualities mentioned. If you want loud, clean, and nothing else, this is your amp. I would recommend this product based on it's quality and sound, but only if the person who wanted it needed what it has to offer.Nathan

To preface… I've owned pretty much all the major Fender amps at one point or another. Blues Jrs, Blues Deluxe, Hot Rod Deluxe & Deville, Supersonic, 65 Deluxe Reverb, 65 Princeton, 65 Twin Reverb, 68 custom Princeton Twin & Deluxe and the buck stops here. This is currently the best sounding, most versatile amp that Fender makes, and probably the closest an amp has ever come to being perfect. If you're looking for the world's greatest clean tone/pedal platform/sublime breakup this is it. Period. Save yourself a bunch of money and time and just buy it. One and done. I had a friend recommend me this expensive/heavy beast of an amp years ago and I didn't listen.. turned off by the price and weight. I proceeded to own almost every other Fender but none of them lit me up inside like this one. The reverb is heaven, the tremolo is perfect, it sounds WONDERFUL at 2 on the volume for home practice and WONDERFUL at 3-4 for a gig. Yes it's awkward to carry, yes it's heavy-ish (altho not as much as the twin), but none of that matters because of the sound it produces. It will highlight your playing dynamics, and the true sound of your guitar like no other amp. It will inspire you to play more, it will make you play above your abilities, it gives back. It can handle any kind of music. It sounds great with any guitar you throw at it (although you absolutely must experience it with a strat). It's got tilt back legs which along with the vintage style slot tuners are probably Leo's greatest underappreciated inventions. Don't expect to get this bad boy to break up at home or smaller stage volumes, arm yourself with some good OD pedals. It produces an extremely loud, FULL, 3D sound which spreads across the stage. BONUS- a little known fact… the often neglected normal channel makes a fantastic bass amp. Just try it! If you want an amp you will own for life, an amp to kill your amp GAS once and for all, when only the absolute best will do… the SR is your amp.Strataholic

I got this to play at gigs and fill in to gaps for 60s and 70s classic rock numbers. It sounded great mic's with just enough stage sound for sustain. I especially liked the foot switch layout to flip between clean and dirty numbers when covering Stones, Bowie, Mott The Hoople, Doobie Bros and stuff, but needed help with a pedal with early metal sounds. Still, found it a very flexible amp overall. About eight months in it got a hissing sound and was useless as a mic'd amp through the PA. It was still under warranty, and – long story short – they repaired the hiss by replacing some circuit components, but after a few weeks it came back. The is the one time I wished I got the replacement warranty. I ended up giving it away to a friend who tinkers in electronics. Do and internet search and you'll see this amp has a long history of hiss and other noise problems that are hard to isolate. That said, I know of some players who liked this amp very much and it never let them down, so I'm not hating on Fender. I like the Fender sound and own a very reliable 65' Twin two Blues Deluxe Issues. If you really must have this amp, I'd recommend getting the full replacement warranty.RJ

Just purchased this beautiful blond amp. The clean channel is perfect. Decent gain. Reverb is adequate. Highly recommend purchasing the amp head and the 2X12 cab because you get two Clesetion Vintage 30's vise the single Eminence in the combo. Sound great out of the box even before the tubes are burned in and the speakers broken in. I'll say this again, the clean channel is perfect, Les Paul, Strat, Tele, ES 195 with P90's and effects never sounded better. Gives this bad boy a test drive, you wont be disappointed. If you have never used a tube amp, 22 watts is quite a bit of power compared to solid state, possibly two to three time the power. Yes! this amp can get quite loud. Perfect for small gigs. Highly portable and easy to move and transport.Karl

Purchased this at the recommendation of a sales associate when I was looking at the Fender Champ 50xl. The GTX50 had great mod settings, I appreciated the on board tuning and the app customization but had a fatal flaw. The bluetooth and wireless function intermittently. While you can still use any programmed setting you will have to dial through possibly 100 settings to find it. Also the save feature in the menu would not allow me to save a new bluetooth name. I am highly capable with electronics and computers and this in my impression was either a firmware or hardware issue. I found that I am not the only one that came across this connectivity problem and there is no 100% fix as of yet that I could find online nor with Fender. Sound was good overall and i had fun when it worked but it was a hassle to connect. Exchanged for the Fender Champ 50xl which I now love, sounds great and the functions all work. Fender has a great product on their hands in the GTX50 if they correct the connectivity issues. I just dont want to wait and hope.Matt

This amp has all the great Fender amp models and while I have never owned or had time with the originals, I am extremely happy with the sound that comes from of all the Fender models. With the guitar plugged in, the tones are very pleasing, from the crispy clean tones of the Twin Reverb to the warm tones of the Deluxe to the crunchy tones of Champ. Very little dialing in required to get a great tone. The non-Fender models did not sound as good to me. I probably use the M/B Mark IIC the most rather than any other model. However, with a GFX unit plugged in, you have to be careful not to overdrive the input or the tones become brittle with an unpleasant buzz and harmonic. I expect this is true for any digital amp modeller, but is more noticeable in this one due to the great tones this amp already gives without any FX units in front. Without the right input signal and tweaking of the FX unit, the tone will only get worse. Functionally, things are not as great. I encountered some issues such as 1. Bluetooth connection to phone app will not discover the amp and requires me to switch on the amp twice for some reason. It always seems to find the amp after the second time. 2. The Master volume knob is digital. Thus, it increases the volume in increments rather than a smooth ramp. This is a problem if you are trying to get very low volumes. It jumps from a level of too quiet to just a bit louder than you need as you tweak the knob. 3. Bluetooth can interfere with a digital wireless system. Either the mobile app wont work or the wireless system wont work. None of these are deal breakers. And for the Fender amp tone modelling it does provide, I am happy with it. If they provided the digital brains of this amp as a GFX foot unit or even a rack unit, I'd sell all my other gear to buy it. I do wish they would continue with more updates, but it seems there is no further development being done on this. The last firmware update was in May 5th 2020.Arjun

I've been looking for a great, clean amp that would really accent my guitar's natural sound. I first tried the Blues Junior which was nice but didn't have quite enough warmth and power behind it, I needed something more. I did my research and landed on this beautiful Princeton. It has everything that I was looking for. I am an experienced player but also prefer not to have a super complicated setup with switches and pedals and knobs; this Princeton keeps the focus solely on the tone and sound. Yes, there is a reverb knob which can add a little more, but I usually keep that off. What's great about getting an amp like this is you really get CLEAN, crisp open/clean channels and can really hear your axe sing. Because of that, it also allows your pedals to shine without being bogged down with too much of this or that, or in my opinion not having enough power behind the amplification. This amp is perfect for those who just want a clean guitar sound, or who want to throw in an effect here and there and still get everything you want in the sound. 1000% recommend.GuitarGuy911

This is a fantastic amp after owning it for 5 months. I constantly wonder about getting rid of other amps and just playing this one all the time. It's a "just right" amp. It's extremely easy to get along with. It sounds good in any room, is less sensitive to placement in the room than other amps I've owned, it's easy to dial in with different guitars. The Reverb & Tremolo always seem just right and easy to adjust. It seemingly gets along with just about any pedal/effect you run into it, but you don't need any FX or pedals with this amp either if you don't want them. If I had to think of a negative it's the vintage style food switch that comes with it. You can't mount it on a pedal board because the back is just press fit and the cable doesn't detach. I usually just wrap up the cable and put the foot switch in the amp for transport. It's no surprise these have been popular for decades.Ben

I went back and forth between the Princeton Custom 68 and the 65 Reissue, and settled on the 65 as I will make better use of the clean headroom and 'pure' clean Fender tone (compared to the darker, snarlier sound of the 68). The amp is fairly light (compared to other Fender amps) and a compact size for transporting to gigs, it has plenty of headroom for small to medium-sized shows but is quiet enough for home recording. The tone is beautiful, clear and sparkling, with a very characterful spring reverb and a subtle but warm vibrato. This is a great little amp with good amp type selection, I especially like the 65 twin reverb selection, and a good bevy of effects. This amp matches up well with the Fender Telecasters I play predominantly. Brings out that good Tele bite that I like. I play mostly jam sessions in small to medium size halls and the 40 watts are plenty and then some for those venues. This thing is also very light and easy to carry and set up. Give me 5 minutes to hook up my echo/delay and volume pedals and I'm ready to gig. I've owned and still own, several small amps and this is the one I go to 95% of the time. Enough said!n/a

I wanted to get an amp cover for my '65 Princeton Reverb 1×12 amp, which has a tweed front that cats love to use as a scratching post. I specifically emailed Guitar Center asking if this was the right case for my specific amp. I even provided a link to my exact amp from their website. I got a simple "yes" response so I bought the amp. Turns out the cover was designed for a completely different amp. I mean this cover does cover my amp fully; the cover drapes over the sides and is clearly too big for my amp. I had a previous Fender amp with an appropriate cover that was designed for the specific amp I had; I bought that cover from GC previously. It isn't worth the trouble of returning because it's so cheap, and because it does technically cover my amp. I was expecting a more well designed fitted case for my amp.Nigel M

When I was researching for a good tube amp, I loved what I read and heard about this amp on YouTube and review sites. It was everything I wanted: excellent tone, quiet enough for home but enough punch to gig with, and prdal friendly. However, there was one glaring review that jumped out at me: several people reported recieving an amp that wouldn't work out of the box. But it was only a few people, right? Coincidence maybe. Allow me to introduce myself. My name us Mark and if anything bad can possibly happen, it'll happen to me. When the amp arrived it was a late day from work and i only had time to unpack and visually inspect. Everything looked good and I placed it among my gear. But when the weekend rolled around, I plugged it in and nada. Lights came on, but not a single sound from the amp. I reviewed the manual and checked the fuse but we were dead in the water. This is the point where you write a bad review, correct? Well, I contacted Musicians Friend and they went above and beyond to help me send the amp back at no cost and had a replacement on the way immediately. When it arrived I have to admit that I was pretty nervous opening it and plugging it up. But with the first notes played, I was elated. The amp was everything as advertised, and sounds amazing. I'll never know for sure what was wrong with the original amp but tubes can be a fickle thing when being shipped. My story was an adventure, but it has a happy ending. These are my initial impressions and I've been playing for fun for about 25 years, but haven't played electric guitar for about 7 years mainly because my Gibson goldtone head and cab are just so loud that I preferred playing acoustic guitar. I finally decided I needed a usable amp and first got a positive grid spark. That's still an impressive amp, but it got me really wanting a great tube amp that was more appropriate for my situation. I looked at boutique amps and really liked some black star stuff, blues Jr, and several others. A buddy who had gone through similar struggles, but actually bought some amps and used them and with my experiments with the modeling amp as much as I could and my experience back when I was in bands and playing around with a bunch of different setups, decided to go with the bassbreaker. Wow. It's so versatile and so easy to get good tones from. I was honestly thinking of swapping speakers or something else but I can just simply get so many great tones. It really reminds me a lot of most tweed amps, some Marshall amps, some mesa amps and a bit of the reverbs and the bassmans (I haven't played these in a long time though). It doesn't mimic my Gibson Goldtone with 1×12 and 1×15, but at this point I don't care and actually found that I don't really want to emulate that amp. I will admit I didn't use that cab with this combo nor have I done any recording with it. I know this is all completely subjective garbage, but that's mostly the nuances we face in music. Go play it in person or trust me that it's got a great versatility for maybe a gritty jazz guy to metal recording (most metal guitarists use more gain and fuzz than make it to a recording).Joe R

After trying many different amps in this price range I found this one used. I was instantly impressed by the tone. The updated tolex, knobs, and speaker cloth were a definite improvement visually. Mine came with a greenback speaker. Swapped it for a g12H30 and sounded even better. Left it on over night by accident one evening and experienced the redplate issue others have reported. The way the amp head is designed makes it virtually unserviceable. Several circuit boards crammed into a tiny space. The back plate is wired into these boards. Some tech's won't even touch it. Check youtube. Even using today's technology Leo Fender would have never designed it this way. Fender corporation is a disgrace!Chuck

It is a great amp. Very good sound and options for the price. It is not heavy which is a big deal to someone who has had back surgery. I gave it a 5 in spite of one big complaint. When you turn it off you hear a loud "POP!" Wow, is that loud is what I thought the first time I heard it. I read about it online and there is a simple fix. Find an old set of ear phones or ear buds that you would use on a cassette player or a Sony Walkman. (Yes, these are ancient electronic relics from the past for you younger people. You might ask your parents if they have a cassette player and borrow the ear plugs.) Just plug that earphone jack into the "PHONES" input BEFORE you turn it off. THEN you only hear a little blip when you turn it off. THEN just pull the jack out of the "PHONES" input before you start it next time.chasmigu

This amp is better than I thought. I've had it for over a year. I use it for practice sessions (classic rock mostly), and I haven't gone over '4 1/2' on the volume (it does give good feedback if you want it). I did upgrade the speaker to a 12" 'Celestion' Vintage 30 and am absolutely happy! This could easily be mic'd for larger venues. Lightweight, powerful enough, and the effects are a good assortment. One small glitch…when using the footswitch, there is a short, instantaneous volume boost when the pedal is pressed for distortion. Could possibly be a problem for recording. Besides that, 5 stars for me.Myk

After playing acoustic guitar for 15+ years and rarely plugging in, I finally decided to make the plunge and try out an electric. I was advised by a buddy to not buy too big, that 15W-20W would be plenty to practice with. So, I found this little Champion at Sam Ash, and so far it's been great! Where do I start? Well, how about, this is the best tube amp I have ever played! 62 years with many guitars and many amps, some owned, some borrowed, and some tested in music shops, might give me a little credibility. I have loved a Fender Twin Reverb, made in the 50s that my uncle Keith, and my guitar mentor, loaned me for a while. It just sounded so good. Never could seem to find cash, or justification to buy a tube amp, but have owned a hal a dozen solid states. THEN THIS LITTLE BEAUTY! Having played the Twin for a couple of years, and others such as a Mesa Boogie, VOX's, and too many others to recall, THIS monster sounds like most of them with just little tweaks of the knobs and my guitar switches. I have played country, 60s and 70s rock, blues, finger-style instrumentals, gospel, etc. I believe this is the PERFECT combo, with the correct (JJ) tubes, a sweet (and dirty when desired) Seventy/80 speaker, and an amazing diversity of sounds, which works in every genre I play! I do not know how anyone can find reason to bad mouth this. I had it for 2 weeks, was asked to fill an absent, guitarist's spot at an outdoor venue, I took this little amp. We played to an area the size of a football field. I set the amp on 1 Watt, until I could hear it cleanly (behind me on stage), let the sound man mic and mix me in. Never had to turn it above about 4, with gain between 1 and 4, and many complemented me on my sound, and musicians asked me WHAT IS THAT LITTLE AMP? Those are the good points. I can only think of two piddly things I would like to see changed, and one would be a standby switch, and the second being a way to run the external speaker WITHOUT cutting off the amp speaker. Until then, I will just keep playing this sweetheart amp, and enjoy the statements about "my sound," and the question of WHAT IS THAT LITTLE AMP? Keep playing everybody…and maybe buy one of these. These amps are fantastic, and at these bargain prices you simply can't go wrong. I upgraded the reverb tank in mine to a Mod and changed the speaker for a Warehouse GC12. OMG, this thing is a beast! Another WGS option I've seen people use is the ET65 for a more British tone, also with good results. The stock speaker is not too bad, but this one simple upgrade of swapping the speaker takes the amp to the next level. It just sounds awesome. The upgraded reverb tank is also an improvement, but not as much as I thought it would be. If I had to do it over again I would just take out the stock tank and use a pedal for reverb and make the amp even lighter to haul around. The more important upgrade imo is the speaker. It really makes a world of difference. Grab one reasonably while you still can, the price keeps creeping up and up and up… !Jeff

After a number of FEDEX issues, I received my amp about 5 days later than estimated. It did arrive in excellent condition and was worth the wait. The Stage Right 611815 has a really sweet tone that sounds particularly good with the single coil pickups on my Fender Sratocaster Player. It breaks up nicely! The reverb works perfectly, and is fine for most playing but you might want an external reverb unit if you are playing Dick Dale tunes. A really nice feature for home playing is the 15W/1W switch, where you can limit the amp to 1 W (be aware that with sound, you have to increase the wattage by 10 times to double the perceived volume, so the 1W setting is a lot more than 1/15th as loud as the 15W setting). It is a bit unusual to have a tone control along with the more common bass, middle and treble controls. Personally, I would have labeled the Tone control as Presence, because that is what it seems to be. I have mostly been playing in the 1W mode with all the controls (including reverb) at 12 o clock, and that is working out great. As far as construction, the amp looks fantastic and gives a vintage look that hints at its tone! The dark grill cloth provides a nice contrast with the blonde tolex, giving a true vintage appearance. The retro red, jeweled pilot light and metal toggle switch complement the vintage styling Keeping with the vintage look, the control panel is chrome with retro chicken head knobs. As others have mentioned, the control names are a little bit difficult to read on the chrome panel. After you use the controls once, you know where they are, so does it really matter (I noticed the blonde version of the Fender Blues Jr also uses a chrome control panel…probably where Monoprice got the idea)? The tolex is neatly installed and glued, at least the parts that are exposed. The leather handle is also reminiscent of old school amps. And I really like the metal corner protectors…very nice. As proudly announced by a badge on the front panel, the amp is equipped with a Celestion speaker…a Seventy 80 The only criticism of the construction, and it is minor, is that the 8 external screws are not chamfered properly to mesh with the finishing washers, which result in the screw heads protruding above the washers. The amp has a jack for an external speaker. When you plug in an external speaker, the internal speaker is shut off, as is common with guitar amps. The reason is if you plug in an external 8 ohm speaker and the internal speaker would still be on, a (combined) 4 ohm load would be presented to the amplifier, which it is not designed to handle. The back is open. The line cord is not detachable, but can be conveniently stowed in the back of the amp. The amp has an effects loop, which I have not tried yet. The amp is now equipped with JJ brand tubes and a metal, two spring, reverb tank, which are upgrades from the original issue I wish I could find a nice, economical (i.e. $20) dust cover for the amp. The only ones I can find are priced at $50 or more, a bit much for protecting an inexpensive amp. In conclusion, the Stage Right 611815 amp looks great and sounds great, and I highly recommend it.Chris

This switch works great with my new Champion 40 Amp. The LEDs work perfectly and the switch does an excellent job. I have not been able to find the actual footswitch that is specified for the New Fender Champion 40, so I purchased this one from Musician's Friend. This dual purpose foot switch requires just a regular 2 conductor guitar cord (not a special 3 conductor stereo cord), so the lack of a 12' cord in the box was not a problem for me. I believe that the design uses the light emitting diodes to separate the tasks between the channel switch and the on/off effects switch. Any regular guitar cord should work (my 25' cord works fine). I was shopping around for a foot pedal for my Super Champ X2 that I just came into and I saw off brands for about the same price as this. The off brands listed that they included a cable where as this listing does not state that. I opted to go for the Fender brand and I am glad that I did. Got this pedal after owing my Super-Champ XD for a few months. This Fender pedal isn't simply a channel switcher, as it allows you to cycle the effects on and off. That really makes a big difference in terms of the number of tones/sounds you can get out of this amp. Clean to dirty to effects, with just one footswitch. The only downside I've found is that it's a little awkward to get this footswitch on a pedal board, if that's what you'd like to do. It's possible, but the bottom isn't flush, as the side rims keep the metal base about an eighth of an inch off the ground. If you just put this on the ground, though, the side rims keep the pedal from sliding, which is nice. Overall, it was worth the money for me, as it allowed me to change channels and tones without having to walk over to the amp and push buttons/turn knobs in the middle of a song.danielecrowe

Sound: I’m very happy with the sound quality. It may not sound identical to the original speakers modeled but honestly I don’t have that good of an ear to know the difference. I do know my high gain and crunch patches with the Vintage or Green sound just like I want, and for clean-ish tones the Essex with a Vox amp does the job quite nicely. Whether it has the mythical “amp in the room” sound or not is going to be up to each user’s own ears. I will say it sounds more organic and amp-like than any FRFR I’ve used and leave it at that. Features: This has so many features it’s hard to list what I find most useful. Physical features like being fairly lightweight and having tiltback legs are certainly helpful to an old guy like me. The tiltback seems extreme but it works well and I don’t feel the need for an amp stand. MIDI or L6 link to remotely change cabinets with each patch is great, and with the L6 link it can easily be done within each patch. I also like that the L6 link runs audio and data. Why use 2 cables when you can to it all with one? The ability to use it as a standard FRFR to run IR is another cool feature and I like that if I need to I can go direct to FOH via through the PC+ and use a separate IR to FOH and speaker modeling in the cab. Lastly, this can be used with any modeler. You can send MIDI messages via standard 5 pin MIDI cable to change speakers and IR within patches from just about any modeling product. If something ever trumps the Helix, I’ll still have a great cab to pair it with. Ease of Use: It’s incredibly easy to get good sounds. Turn the knob on the top until you get a speaker you like. The speaker modeling sounds great. I’ve dabbled with some of the IR’s and they sound great too. Some folks have complained that it doesn’t have enough volume but that’s not been the case with me. You will need to make sure the output levels on your modeler are properly set to get the most volume and avoid clipping. If you aren’t familiar with how to do this, I would suggest checking out YouTube videos by Jason Sadites or Steve Sterlacci on how to properly set patch levels. It’s super easy and mostly common sense, but something a lot of folks overlook. And don’t forget to include your solo boosts when setting levels!! Quality: By all appearances it seems very well built and sturdy and has a quality feel. I know there are people using these on the road and that also says a lot about the build quality. It’s been tossed in and out of my trunk a few times now with minimal wear and tear showing. It would be nice if it was made of birch and covered with Tolex, but that would only add to the cost and weight. As it is the box is solid. Value: At first glance $799 seems expensive for a 1×12 cab. However, when you consider what it can do that others can’t and then compare it to other 1×12 FRFR that are $1,000 and up it starts becoming a better and better value. If you don’t need MIDI or remote speaker switching, then there’s also the standard Powercab that’s a couple hundred less. Sounds the same just not as many features. Manufacturer Support: Over the years I’ve purchased quite a bit of Line6 gear and they have always provided me with great support. They have a very good user forum with plenty of knowledgeable and helpful people and Line6 also has reps in some of the larger gear forums. Line6 has a good history of product updates as well. The PC+ has already received an update with some additional features and I expect they will continue to update as needed. They seem to do a pretty good job of listening to their customers when it comes to requesting features etc. The Wow Factor: Speaker modeling, FRFR, and IR all in one cab that sounds really good. That’s pretty wow to me! I think this will appeal to players like myself who use modeling and are looking for the best sound without a lot of fussing, or just plain don’t like the sound of an FRFR as much as a normal amp and cab. Overall: I just went back to Helix after using Mesa MKV and Friedman JJ amps. The band doesn’t play a lot of gigs that require miking up the guitars or using direct FOH, so the speaker I chose had to sound great on its own and not just something to monitor myself with. The last time I went down the FRFR road it didn’t work out very well. I know it’s not the boxes it’s me, but regardless I got tired of constantly trying to find the right IR or thinking I found one that sounded good at home only to have it sound like crap at band volume yada yada. When I was researching speakers for the Helix I heard a lot of great things about the Powercab so I thought I’d give it a shot. The speaker modeling is somewhat unique, and I thought it might be the shorter path to better tone for me. It arrived 2 days after I ordered and the set up was very easy. I had already decided to use L6 link instead of XLR because I wanted to remotely control the cab via the Helix and not have to set up MIDI. Everything I expected from Line 6. This Power Cab Plus 112 is blowing my mind right now. I usually never go with solid state amps. I've been playing through Fender Deluxe Reverbs, Hot Rod Deluxe' and my latest Fender Princeton Reverb. These are for sure amazing go to amps. However, to my ears, with the HELIX LT that I play through, I'm getting similar tones and even more using the built-in speaker models that come with stock with the Power Cab Plus 112. I've never had this much versatility in a rig before. I love it. I also use the genuine Line 6 L6 Link cable (witch is just a good quality AES/EBU cable) connected between my HELIX LT and the Power Cab Plus 112 so that I can change speaker models on the fly with my presets. I really can't ask for more. Simple, light weight, professional sounding tones, all at my toe tips. This is good times for sure.FELIX

I had high hopes, when I saw that Line 6 was offering powered speaker cabs, I thought wow ! Like the Tech 21 Power Engine but better !!!! Wrong… I sold my pair of Tech 21 Power Engines when I purchased a pair of these cabs… wrong move. I unpacked the Power Cabs and thought .. BEAUTIFUL !!! Sturdy, stylish… when I plugged in my HELIX…. I literally could not get a usable sound out of it, I fiddled for hours. After a few days of fiddling with new presets I was able to get a decent basic sound so I thought I was golden. I took it out for on gig doing a outdoor surf meet event… OUCH ! Fizzy, treble ridden, buzz saw city. I could not even get a decent volume from it, the tone because it was so "HIFI" was so buried in the mix I could barely hear myself. Besides the lack of volume, I could not believe the absolute atrocious tone I was getting(think BUZZSAW). This is not a good match for a helix or any floor processors or modelers. I regret getting rid of my Tech 21's they were a tad noisy but they sounded 100% better than these. I keep hearing and seeing the reviews for the Plus version, but seems odd that for something that is supposed to simply amplify the sound you get from your Helix would do such a poor job. WIth the covers and the shipping I paid mucho dinero so saying I am unhappy is an understatement. I've been told with tweaking you can get the cab to sound good, I've spent hours doing this. I don't think its possible. Avoid this… I have been using my cabs as vocal monitors, just because I would get smashed if I tried to sell them. I've used this for one gig, maybe 6 times at rehearsal, sadly they are horrible, giving it 2 stars is quite generous….Guitar Kahuna

These have made such a drastic improvement in my little super champ x2. Bought this amp used and seemed to be microfonic so bought this nice set of tubes. The amp now sounds like it was intended, sweet. Loved how these guys match the tubes and sell as a set so easy to replace. Very inexpensive for a complete return. I purchased an old Rivera amplifier from an old friend. I immediately fell in love with it. The response was instant. No need of fiddling around with presets here and simulations there. Just plain, simple and straight forward as they used to make 'em. It didn't take long before I jumped into an ad here at Bay saying there were vacuum tubes specially made for that old amp. Since I want things to be operating as well as possible I became interested. I bought The Rudolf Schenker pack for my Rivera TBR-1. As you can see on the picture, there are eight ECC83S tubes but at least in my TBR-1 there are only seven sockets. So I'm left with a spare tube here. Anyway, after playing I noticed a positive difference. The guys offered me some support but I would have wanted to know more about adjusting the bias. Guess it's too old since even the folks at Rivera amps doesn't have a clue and regard it as an antique. Be that as it may, old 60's Fender Bassman are sold for thousands of dollars so old doesn't mean dull or bad. I'll keep on playing with it, and now that I have fresh tubes it will be immensely fun!inkagustavsson

This is the best deal you will find for an extended speaker cab of this quality hands down! The Vintage 30 speaker on its own is nearly $150 at most places, making the cabinet so cheap for this unit that you cannot even build your own for less money. The cabinet is gig worthy and is wired for a parallel speaker extension…however the soft vinyl covering, which looks nice, could possibly damage easy over time (*one and only complaint). I am extremely happy with the build quality and the sound of this 12" speaker with the open back cab perfectly fills out a missing niche in my speaker stack. At this price point you will not find a better value anywhere. Highly recommended!Stephen
