This definitely does something to tone. That will be subjective to your ear, guitar type and if acoustic your wood type. I use this mostly on my acoustics. You can really feel a vibration change in the neck and body while using as opposed to not using it. I must like them, I have 4 of them so I can just leave it on the guitars I like. I think it improves bright guitars the best by mellowing out the harsh of the highs like Maple body guitars and adirondack topped guitars. Sounds really good on my 000-18E Retro which is Mahogany and Sitka Spruce with 80/20 bronze strings.David Seattle
It takes time and experimentation to find most effective placement on headstock. Of my several basses, two need it, two don't. Of the two that do, (one a P-bass, the other a P/J bass, sustain problems occur on the G-string – 5th fret, the other on the D-string 8th/9th fret. The fat finger is installed at the end of the headstock on one, and adjacent to the nut on the other. Sustain is greatly improved on both,…not totally cured. A practicing Nashville luthier has examined each bass and, as I did, proclaimed the fatfinger the best "fix". Much of my music performed on each instrument involves quiet lead-note passages requiring decent sustain and tonal quality. I've seen many blogs that find reason to trash the purpose and effectiveness of this accessory, even to the point of castigating the player. That said, this comes from lack of experience and/or playing style that counts volume as priority, thereby never being able to realize a need that others do. The ONLY bass guitar I know of that exhibits "perfect and unending sustain" is my Kramer with a machined aluminum neck and wood inlay. I bought this after trying out a friend's guitar who is a guitar tech and installed it himself. I was amazed at the unlimited sustain on his guitar and decided to order one after my guitar tech friend said he could put it in a couple of days work. While waiting for it to arrive I had some questions about the product which Musician's Friend couldn't answer so they gave me the phone number for Fernandes. It's not even in service! try the website-no phone number but a contact us link. Try asking them a question- never got a response!??? Sustainer arrives and I learned the answer to my question, which you may want to know. If you have humbucker pickups, you will need to buy a single-coil size pick up, like a Hotrail to put side by side with the single coil sustainer driver. There's a generic humbucker pick up in the kit, which seems like just a waste if you already have a good humbucker you like in the bridge position. (Some people say it's a Fernandes humbucker and you need to use it. Not true, even Fernandes puts Dimarzios in its guitars with sustainers.) My friend went through a couple of routers and a soldering iron, plus we had to make several trips for small stuff like liquid wire insulation, a pickguard to cut and cover the new space in the back of the guitar, paint to cover and protect newly exposed wood. I have the Sustainer kit in my Burney MG140S guitar (Japan only!). The VH401 pickup is probably the best distortion pickup I have ever used. It?s a shame you can only get them with this kit! The sustainer is awesome. You can flip from harmonics to normal note sustain, or do a hybrid of the two. It?s just awesome, and worth every penny for the quality of the item. The notes ring crystal clear infinitely, or. Until your battery dies 🙂 My battery life has been over 2 hours now, so Id says that is pretty good as well.Andrew-mSZ2a
I've owned a Fernandes guitar with a sustainer since 2001 and it blew my mind. If you want to sound like Alex Lifeson, Brian May, Eddie Van Halen, Billy Gibbons, and of course the great David Gilmour then this is what you want to have ( Talent not included!). The only issue I found to be a problem is the battery life. I made a nine volt converter for the guitar when I'm using it a lot with a quarter inch plug into the back of the guitar. I would suggest placing two batteries as their website states. The guitar will not work without batteries. Don't know if the newer models have better battery life or if they turn off when not playing. Might be a good thing for Fernandes to incorporate into this wonderful electronic circuit. I have used the sustainiac installed by its founder and I honestly have not been able to get the same results as Fernandes. I'm flirting with purchasing the new single coil for my next strat project.Ruben

I never could find any videos on these pickups to see sound. Couldn't find any reviews. Nothing at all. So ended up buying them anyway to try them out. Great pickups. Put them in my classic 60s strat. Best idea ever. I think these are basically big dippers. They just don't call them that. The customer shop artist inspired "the black61" play one words of John Mayer's "black1" has these in it. So context clues to me shows its Fenders way of getting prs back. Makes floyd rose tremolo "harder" to manipulate, so there is better tuning stability, and double-stop bends stay in tune. Installation in my schecter guitar was overall not too difficult. If you already know how to set up a floating bridge, or are competent with any guitar maintenance, it's possible. Being able to adjust the tension of the tremsetter means you can have a very solid bridge without blocking it, or you can make it very light again without uninstalling. I did have to file down a section of the mount, however, to make sure there was no way it would hit the spring when moving the tremolo. After that, I much prefer my tremolo with it installed.adpru-80
I'm pretty handy with tools so I tried to install this myself. The good news: it's a non-destructive install. If you screw it up, which I did, the results are easily hidden when you reinstall your factory tremolo springs and claw. I have a USA Strat with a vintage tremolo. I watched the install video several times before doing any work. Followed the instructions carefully. However, I did not align the device properly and consequently the device never worked as it should have. I didn't feel like filling the two small holes and re drilling, so I just put my standard trem back in. So my review is a qualified one: I did use the device and it seemed that was doing what it was supposed to do. But it would not stay in tune, let alone come back to proper pitch after the bar was used. It did eliminate flutter kept other strings in tune while bending. Lets say you play bass guitar and your band has a couple of songs that require Drop D tuning (or even lower). I've played a lot of different Strats over the years and while they all had "that Strat sound" to varying degrees, the Fat '50s achieve seem to be the most authentic. By adding a treble bleed and turning down the volume a bit, I can get those classic chimey tones from the 50s and with the volume all the way up, I can get the bigger sounds from the 60s. The cleans are sparkling, but they sound great running through higher gain amps as well. Compared to pickups like the Texas Specials, these are not harsh to my ears, even in the bridge position. The Fender Mexican made 2017 Stratocaster is a nice guitar and as a standard out of the box guitar is good. One easy way to upgrade the sound is by installing the Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's pickup set. I measured the ones on a custom shop 59 before purchase to be sure of string alignment. I purchased a set and fitted them in about half an hour, fortunately my Mex ST had an Oak type 5 way and full size pots so no more upgrade work needed there. I did change the pot knobs and switch knob to white to match the new pickup covers. I installed a new set of strings, the pickups were test adjusted and sound great, a nice full sound, the front one is very rounded and clear, the middle is a classic sound and the back nice and strong. I was after a Shadows style of sound and these pickups did not disappoint. They give a clear sound and the right sound if you are looking for pure vintage tone.matt66red
I waited 5 months to write this review, I'll try to be unbiased. I replaced the stock ceramic pickups from a Fender Standard MIM. It's my first change of pickups ever, and the first time I play a guitar that sounds so classic, so I can not tell about the difference with a higher end model of Strat or a vintage one, but here goes my opinion: This pickups totally rock, well they don't only do rock, they play everything you want to hear from a instrument called "guitar", that means, 6 strings thru a wood body, they deliver the classic and just necessary electric guitar experience. No gimmicks, just the real thing, classic clean sound, lots of harmonics, dynamic sound, and driven sound wonderful, because they can be strong too, classic surf rock sound here. Took me a couple of days to adjust the proper height, the Alnico V magnets are strong so you have to be delicate to find the right spot for the three PUs, but once you are there, they are marvellous. The three pickups are pretty much the same, states the box, but the three positions are there, and the case with the medium pickup is a great surprise, it sounds very nice, very "middy" usable position, sounds as a custom medium pickup. Going back and forth between the LT25 and LT40s to compare identifical presets, both sounded good and similar even with the differences in cabinet and speaker size. A subjective impression is that the LT25 sounded a bit more distant or maybe dispersed. The LT40s sounded a bit more focused. It was a tough call as the LT25 is less expensive but I walked out of there with the LT40S. For desktop placement and low volume practice, the LT40s sounds great and with plenty of low end. I don't need loud volume but this amp can fill a 16'x24' loft with sound. The USB connection to my laptop was initially a no go. After deleting and then reinstalling the application, it has sinced worked great!Wally

I have to say that I am very impressed with the 30 included presets and I've not even branched out into the additional ones you can add. The quality of the LT25 is fantastic, not super heavy and all the switches feel robust. I've found the sound can vary depending on the preset you choose though that is to be expected with those that have high gain. I mostly play clean and blues and this amp is fantastic for both of those. If you want a more classic rock sound there is a preset for this which I think needs a bit of tweaking. All in all very impressed and as this is my first Fender amp, I will definitely be getting another in the future.Alex G.
This is my first amp and as a beginner guitarist it has everything I need. Initial set up is as easy as pulling it out of the box and plugging it in. The built in presets all sound amazing and are easy to switch between, if you arent super techy and dont want to fiddle with the online fender tone aspect of it all the provided presets are enough to give you just about any tone you could want. It gets pretty loud for its size I dont think Ive cranked it higher than 1/2 way in respect for my neighbors. The headphone jack is also great because it always me to play silently into the night without disturbing those around me. Its super light as well and has a handle on the top of the amp so its easy to move around. It seems pretty durable, I obviously havent gone kicking it off a stage or anything but it should withstand a curious puppy or rambunctious child tripping over it a few times. Overall its a great option that doesnt break the bank if you just need something a little more travel friendly or are a first time player like me. My favorite thing about it is how many sound options it has laid out built in or online because I didn't immediately have to dump $1000 on pedals to get the sound that I wanted. (For reference I've been playing my Ibanez Gio GRX70QA with this amp just attached by a Fender original series 10ft cable)

Better than any locking tuner, you just have to measure the string to the second peg above the one you're using, cut it and put it in. When you get to the unwound ones, clip a little shorter (can't tell you how to measure, I figured it out by trial and error. I would estimate 3 wraps by sort of wrapping it loosely, then cut). Perfect match to the vintage F tuners made on the great strats of yore, you can age them to match by fuming the finish with muriatic acid. Place the tuners on an upside down bowl in a piece of tuperware with an inch or so of acid. Seal the lid. Place in a bath of hot water, and the acid will heat and evaporate. After 10 – 15 minutes check the level of chrome removal. You can always do more, but you can't easy put chrome back on. Rinse with cold water when you're done. RAWK ON!!!!ki_jaybones
I love these tuners. They look cool, they hold tune well. I would not upgrade to these for any guitar that doesn't already have them. Use these for repair/replacement only if you have a guitar that comes with these machines (Eric Clapton, 50s reissue strats). American standards, deluxe and mexican strats all use a different mounting method and have a different peg hole size which is why they provide you with those bushings. If you use these to replace the stock Ping tuners you must be able to drill and tap the machine screw mounting holes. The bushings do not set tight in the existing tuning machine peg hole. I used a drop of super glue to hold the bushings in place to the head. I did use these to make a black MN MIM strat look more like Eric's blackie, so it is not impossible to use them, just know you will have to drill new screw holes and tap them for mounting. Be very careful to not drill all the way through the head and with brass mounting screws. There are no extra screws. It is very easy to bur the brass phillip screw heads beyond use. After your holes are drilled use a pick guard screw to thread hole, then use the provided mounting screw for the tuning machine. I drilled and tapped holes to install one machine at a time to more easily manage alignment of machines from one to the other. After I was done it looked factory issue and worked the same. I put a drop of oil between the peg and bushing before stringing to ease peg binding against the bushing.
I build custom Strat/Tele's so this may not apply to all but…. Like others said this peg uses press-fit front bushing style similar to low cost Squire Strat. For standard diecast pegs I drill 10 mm diameter holes on peg head. I use aftermarket necks with 8 mm diameter hole (I remember it is same as low cost Squire). What I do on 8 mm holes for this peg is I drill 4 mm deep 23/64 (9.1 mm??) diameter counterbore holes to accommodate the bushings. I strongly recommend using drill press not hand drill for this. Also for a better support of peg shaft, I made Teflon sleeves to fill the peghead holes of 8 – 10 mm with silicone grease. One minor issue I have is peghead of some aftermarket Tele neck is a little undersized so I need to file the end peg (High E) a bit to fit.Basement Blues

This new actual Fender neck was a drastic change in quality and performance. Here's just a quick Pros and Con of this product. PROS: Real Fender Product – Because this is an official Fender product, the neck replacement on my Squier was seamless and very simple. Modern C – Makes a better feeling guitar when playing compared to the normal C shape neck. Satin Neck Finish on back – The neck is very smooth feeling when playing. The finish on the back of the neck doesn't get in the way of you playing fast. This helps if you have sweaty hands when playing. Gloss fretboard – This makes a difference because if doesn't feel like your fingers are sticking to the fretboard. Medium Jumbo Frets – Just feels nice when moving around the fretboard. Bending strings feel nicer than my old Squier frets. Pre Drilled Holes for Tuners – I already had Fender locking tuners. So it was a simple swap with no mods needed. I upgraded my pickups in MIM strat and wanted to go black from the existing white. I lost a humbucker for a single coil in the process and needed a new pickguard. My strat was the midnight wine color (dark) and the black looks absolutely awesome on it compared to the white. Everything fit perfect. No mis aligned screws etc as often occurs when changing out parts on some MIM strats. The strat is year model 2006. The only complaint and it is notable band the reason the rating is a bit lower: I understand black loves scratches but come on, the instant I wiped the pick guard with a very soft cloth, massive scratches. It is brand new and very scratched. Even micro fiber cloth marks it. I know it will get scratched but I wanted the shine at least until playing it caused scratches. I would prefer to pay a little more and Fender make the plastic more scratch resistant. That can be done very easily in the polymers/chemistry chosen. Other than the scratching gripe, typical good quality OEM Fender, looks sharp, fits good. Change your color and personalize your strat easily. I am glad I did.
I love the aged look of the pickup covers and knobs. I have ordered many over the years. The tremolo cover does not match at all and usually has a mint green color. That part of the kit is a waste. I have piles of them which I cannot use. The best look for your Strat is a W/B/W pickguard with matching tremolo cover and these pickup covers and knobs. I will continue to buy the kit. I have tried several others and they are always lacking.lawellness

Purchased this at the recommendation of a sales associate when I was looking at the Fender Champ 50xl. The GTX50 had great mod settings, I appreciated the on board tuning and the app customization but had a fatal flaw. The bluetooth and wireless function intermittently. While you can still use any programmed setting you will have to dial through possibly 100 settings to find it. Also the save feature in the menu would not allow me to save a new bluetooth name. I am highly capable with electronics and computers and this in my impression was either a firmware or hardware issue. I found that I am not the only one that came across this connectivity problem and there is no 100% fix as of yet that I could find online nor with Fender. Sound was good overall and i had fun when it worked but it was a hassle to connect. Exchanged for the Fender Champ 50xl which I now love, sounds great and the functions all work. Fender has a great product on their hands in the GTX50 if they correct the connectivity issues. I just dont want to wait and hope.Matt
This amp has all the great Fender amp models and while I have never owned or had time with the originals, I am extremely happy with the sound that comes from of all the Fender models. With the guitar plugged in, the tones are very pleasing, from the crispy clean tones of the Twin Reverb to the warm tones of the Deluxe to the crunchy tones of Champ. Very little dialing in required to get a great tone. The non-Fender models did not sound as good to me. I probably use the M/B Mark IIC the most rather than any other model. However, with a GFX unit plugged in, you have to be careful not to overdrive the input or the tones become brittle with an unpleasant buzz and harmonic. I expect this is true for any digital amp modeller, but is more noticeable in this one due to the great tones this amp already gives without any FX units in front. Without the right input signal and tweaking of the FX unit, the tone will only get worse. Functionally, things are not as great. I encountered some issues such as 1. Bluetooth connection to phone app will not discover the amp and requires me to switch on the amp twice for some reason. It always seems to find the amp after the second time. 2. The Master volume knob is digital. Thus, it increases the volume in increments rather than a smooth ramp. This is a problem if you are trying to get very low volumes. It jumps from a level of too quiet to just a bit louder than you need as you tweak the knob. 3. Bluetooth can interfere with a digital wireless system. Either the mobile app wont work or the wireless system wont work. None of these are deal breakers. And for the Fender amp tone modelling it does provide, I am happy with it. If they provided the digital brains of this amp as a GFX foot unit or even a rack unit, I'd sell all my other gear to buy it. I do wish they would continue with more updates, but it seems there is no further development being done on this. The last firmware update was in May 5th 2020.Arjun
Overall: So I bought this due to the convenience of it. I wanted to stop with having a dozen pedals and modelling amps seem to have come a long way. And for a bedroom player, the volume and sound aren't much to complain about. [and sound of all the effects and multiple amp/cab combos aren't that bad either]. I can definitely get a decent tone from the combinations I choose or the presets already made.BUTI hate this amplifier. Without the tone app, it is NOT easy to use/customize your own presets, and even altering presets is not intuitive at all. And Tone app NEVER connects to the amp. I got it updated [huge pain in itself to accomplish], and the Bluetooth connectivity is absolutely horrendous.It says on the app to maintain a distance of 3ft from the amp for connectivity [ridiculous in itself to be hovering over the amp constantly when you're adjusting or creating effects], but it takes 10 minutes of trial and error WITH MY PHONE SITTING ON THE AMP, for it to finally connect. But God forbid I forget to maintain 3ft of distance and it disconnects, only for me to restart the process.Also, the effects are a terrible rabbit hole, more of a con than a pro for me. I found myself playing with effects more than actually playing the guitar and I'm generally just dissatisfied at the end of every "session" I try having with it.Quality is getting 2 stars because the amp itself it up to standard, but the almost necessary connectivity to the Tone app is basically a failure on Quality Control. There shouldn't be a [useless] FAQ section for connectivity issues the same day the amp is released.It's sort of like this video game comparison: play western RPG games for a few months [Skyrim, Witcher 3, Dragon's Dogma, etc], and then switch to playing japanse RPG games.. the difference is insane; you get flooded with all kinds of things you can do pretty much right away, but your direction is constantly being thrown off due to exactly that.Great idea, terrible execution. I'm going back to a traditional set up – a simple but nicer tube combo amp and a pedal board. You can't beat it for an enthusiastic bedroom player.

Bought this as the finishing touch to my Telecaster project. I was given the original guitar which had been left out in torrential rain in someone's garden years ago. Having refinished the body, replaced the neck and upgraded the hardware I decided to increase the tonal range by replacing the neck pick up with a Humbucker pickup. This involved some careful surgery to accommodate the new, bigger unit and a replacement, purpose made scratchplate ( customising the original didn't go well!) The new pickup is a genuine Fender part, substantial and well made. It's done exactly what I was hoping to achieve and I now have my perfect electric guitar with a fat, dirty sound option as well as a clean traditional Tele sound.jo_611328

I got one of these in the Burgundy Mist color. It's a beautiful guitar! I was very interested in a Strat-style guitar with only humbuckers. I must say, that for the price, the pickups sound very good. I'm guessing swapping them out for Seymour Duncans or DiMarzios would be an improvement, but probably not a big one. So I'll keep the stock pickups. Unfortunately, out of the box, the action was WAY too high, the intonation wasn't even close and the tuners were unreliable, at best. I ended up getting a pro setup and swapping out the tuners for Fender locking tuners. That cost another $180. So the total price of this guitar ended up being around $460. But it's still a pretty good deal, compared to what you'd pay for a Fender version of this (around $1,900). This guitar, with the new locking tuners and pro setup, plays and sound very nice.Russell
The guitar I purchased passed my own multi-point inspection (weight, neck joint tightness with no gaps, action, vibrato functionality, smoothness, etc) with a much better subjective score than all the other much more expensive guitars that I had been auditioning for months and months before deciding what to buy, including some from prestigious brands . Not a fan of high output humbuckers, tonally, therefore I was already foreseeing changing pickups and pots/electronics any way. Tuners will also be upgraded. Regardless, this is an excellent chassis from which to build an excellent guitar that really works, and this is very cost-effective. To me this is much, much better than buying a vintage or boutique guitar, no matter the model, that is going to be undeniably overpriced simply because it unavoidably will need to be changed to suit my taste in different areas. Must say that I am not the typical guitarist who is constantly changing components due to perpetual dissatisfaction, but I know very well what I want in an electric guitar, long before i begin shopping for it. Pretty great guitar overall, especially for the price. The only issue I've had is some ringing on the G string when muting after strumming forcefully. It seems to be happening because of the angle of the strings going from the nut to the pegs, which is preventing the string from muting properly in that region. Changing the strings might fix it, but I just tied a ribbon around the G string upwards of the nut to attenuate the vibration. A good guitar for beginners, although I have 15 years of experience, but I had to bring it to mind to make it easier to play. For an electro-acoustic guitar, the neck is quite thick and the strings are far from the fret. I came with a chipped varnish, but they did not change it, because my son tore the box.Gennadij
