These are the best strings I've ever used. GORE has been trying to discontinue and keeps pushing the Nanoweb version: but the difference is huge! No match at all! The Elixir Polyweb maintain their tone, brightness and tension over 10 times what a Nanoweb does and probably twice that number over un-coated strings. I play every day and I've had guitars with over 6-7-8 months using the same set of strings with no issues. The're that good! BTW, my main guitars are Gibson Les Paul (TonePros Nashville and Tune-O-Matic Locking Bridge, Tusq Nut) and PRS Custom 24 (Tremolo version with Bronze Saddles and a Tusq Nut). These strings feel so good… no such thing as a strange feel because they're coated. You actually feel like playing with a very familiar and comfy feel. These Elixir Polyweb keep outperforming their competitors easily: D'Addario EXP, DR Extra, Fender DuraTone, Dean Markley Blue Steel, Earnie Ball Coated Slinky or the latest Earnie Ball Cobalt. This was a great price on my favorite strings. Shipping was very fast too. Unfortunately, "new" does not mean the same as"fresh" and I have now learned the difference. These do seem to be genuine Elixers, but a few problems which led to broken strings may indicate that these were either sitting on a shelf for a very long time or else exposed to moisture. Normally, brand new strings will be very springy when you first take them out of the sleeve. They generally will uncoil into a straight line, but every single one of these maintained a strong curl or twist in it. But that alone was not a problem for me. The strings installed normally and tuned well, but the tonal quality seemed a little sub-par compared to what I was used too. Still, it's possible I was just imagining that. The strings were fine for a month. Held there notes as well as any, and the tone was at least decent, though I still felt it was missing something. But after one month I had the B string break. I usually keep Elixer strings for 6 months before they finally lose their great tone and I replace them, and because I wind plenty of extra string around the posts, I haven't had a string break on me in over 8 years. Breaking one now pretty much confirmed my earlier suspicions. I went ahead and replaced all 6 strings with the next set, but 2 weeks later and the high E string broke on me. For now I'm borrowing the high E from the final set, but the first chance I get I will be replacing every string with a new, fresh set from a local music store. I don't think I'll buy strings online again because of this apparent problem of freshness.jaredlang85

I went to my girlfriends sisters home for Xmas and a few guys got a some guitars out and we played some rock, country and bluegrass on Elixers strung on acoustic instruments. They claimed the strings were three years old. They sounded quite good for their age. After seeing a John Paul Jones interview where he said Elixers were all he used. I already used them but his opinion completely sold me. I even bought an Elixer tee shirt. I use them on all my guitars and mandolins. I won't settle for anything else. Used to use the Zakk Wylde lo-string set exclusively, but I tune to B standard and the high strings were too floppy. So I went on the hunt for baritone strings. I've tried all the baritone sets and this is by far the best. The gauges are perfect and elixir strings stay bright & resonant– I've yet to break a string! Overall: I've never been one to write reviews however my few purchases at zZounds compels me to. They have enabled me to get top shelf medicinal music gear that I cud never afford without their payment plan. I have 4 deployments to war zones and am retired early now however my credit not to Shiney from a previous relationship. Their no credit check really is a blessing for people like me that have the integrity but not the credit score. Too my point. I never knew strings made such a difference. These elixirs are a little slick but wonderful once you get used to it in about an hour. Every note is very defined and the highs dont hurt your ears and lows and miss are great. I find these strings extremely good if you have ceramic pickups. Just some magic about them. I gave a shot and they improved my sound technique and overall experience with a guitar. I thought I found the magic when I got some Erie ball cobalts. The feel is similar but the sound of the elixirs optiweb are much better. Harmonics come through much better as well. I will definitely be using elixirs for a while until I may find something better in my tone search.Tigger
I usually use 10-46 but bending them requires a bit of effort. I've since changed to the 10/46 Optiweb from the Nanoweb Elixir's and they are so much better. However, I needed a set for a 25.5" scale guitar I'm keeping in E Standard, so opted for the 9/42 to try out. They feel amazing, play beautifully and are very bright sounding. Standard tuning, these are my go-to string from now on.Wayne G

When these Optiwebs came out, I tried them out. I totally love the feel of them, as they don't even feel coated. They still have the solid Elixir tone and I can leave them on for 3-4 months without losing any tone or tuning stability. Okay, These strings are expensive. That's the bad. The reality is that if you have Bad PH sweat that kills your strings before they stretch out, this is a gift from God. Some players complain about losing their tone after 2 weeks with regular strings, but I couldn't play more than 45 minutes before the "dulling" effect would kick in. This was documented in the studio where you could hear the difference on punch ins. Enter Elixir Bass Strings (medium)This was crazy! I actually go 2 or 3 months with bright broken in Awesome Tone! Good tone means better practice so my investment really pays off.
a freaking 10 I play in a small band that rocks hard. We practice three times a week doing at least 2 run throughs of 12 song sets each practice, not to mention dialing in new songs and song writing sessions. For now I'm borrowing the high E from the final set, but the first chance I get I will be replacing every string with a new, fresh set from a local music store. I wanted to try these on my newest guitar (Martin Jr E) as I had liked them on my previous Takemine F cutaway. They are nice, have a good tone but for some reason, I find the fretboard noise greater on these Bronze strings. I will probably wind going to different strings on this guitar, but I want to try as many as is possible. In the end, I've so far found the Martin light 12 SP strings most suited to this size guitar. In this case, it's probably a mixture of my less than perfect right-hand technique and the composition of the strings. Flat picking, these strings really work well for me.Not as fast Eddie
Guitar strings are a subjective thing, and it comes down to the users preference, so note that my take on these is based on my preference and not an indication of the quality of the product. I bought these because I had heard many good things about Elixirs, but as I suspected the difference between coated/uncoated strings is not a positive one for me. These are labeled as being "slick & fast," but I find that they do just the opposite for me – the coating actually stops my fingers from sliding across the strings. The tone seems OK – I like a "duller" tone, as opposed to that bright, metallic new string sound – these are "warm" as labeled, but I'm still not really impressed with the tone they impart on my Martin D-28. I think I'm better off with the Martin strings that came on it. But again, this is just my preference, and the only way to really tell is to buy a pair and try them out. It's an inexpensive way to experiment with the tone/feel of your guitar.Steven

These do seem to be genuine Elixers, but a few problems which led to broken strings may indicate that these were either sitting on a shelf for a very long time or else exposed to moisture. Normally, brand new strings will be very springy when you first take them out of the sleeve. They generally will uncoil into a straight line, but every single one of these maintained a strong curl or twist in it. But that alone was not a problem for me. Elixirs go on all 7 of my guitars. They last upto a year before I even notice them losing their fresh tone. 6-8 months on my everyday Les Paul's and Strat. My 12 strings don't get as many hours on them, thus the year longevity. All other strings, maybe 45 days, usually a month then dead or boringly dull. There is a difference worth paying for. These strings have been a lifesaver for me. My hands aren't acidic and I easily get a year from them before needing to restring. I use the same brand on my PRS electric, too. (10's). I gig weekly in our church worship band so I prefer a string that holds tone and these just deliver. Super product! I do prefer these over the 80/20 and any poly web version…for tone and I feel the poly version stifles string resonance too much.BradM

These are the best strings I've ever used. GORE has been trying to discontinue and keeps pushing the Nanoweb version: but the difference is huge! No match at all! The Elixir Polyweb maintain their tone, brightness and tension over 10 times what a Nanoweb does and probably twice that number over un-coated strings. I play every day and I've had guitars with over 6-7-8 months using the same set of strings with no issues. The're that good! BTW, my main guitars are Gibson Les Paul (TonePros Nashville and Tune-O-Matic Locking Bridge, Tusq Nut) and PRS Custom 24 (Tremolo version with Bronze Saddles and a Tusq Nut). These strings feel so good… no such thing as a strange feel because they're coated. You actually feel like playing with a very familiar and comfy feel. These Elixir Polyweb keep outperforming their competitors easily: D'Addario EXP, DR Extra, Fender DuraTone, Dean Markley Blue Steel, Earnie Ball Coated Slinky or the latest Earnie Ball Cobalt. Again: by far! In over 30 years playing and recording, I've never encountered a product of such quality in what comes to strings… and trust me: I've tried them all! I've been using Elixir strings for about a decade now. I first tried them on an acoustic guitar, & was blown away by the tone, the feel, & the longevity. I've been using Elixir strings for years now. Although not quite as bright as traditional strings, the upside is the brightness they do have lasts so much longer. Overall: Is it my imagination, or do these strings squeek less? Pretty sure I'm not dreaming. Sure, there's the "normal" squeeking, but I don't hear as much "noise" as I was getting on my previous strings. I seem to get fewer unwanted harmonics when muting with only one finger, and fewer squeeks when I slide my hand to different positions. I still need some practice with muting, but not as much as I thought. I also think I hear more bass out of these strings. Or maybe it's just a better overall tone, but something sounds better, even on the G string. Very nice sound! It was worth the money! These strings also seem to feel better, less friction, nice soft touchy feel. I'll never use any other brand of strings after this!Al

Feels great on the fingers! I bought these strings with curiousity. I fell in love with these strings not only because of the feel but the sound that it produces. I love slapping on the bass and these strings really makes each attack more pronounced. But as with all strings, you have to try it yourself. I personally love these strings. Only drawback is a the price…it is very pricey, but I expect these strings to last me at least 6 months.
I have played bass professionally since the mid seventies, and always used Roto Sound until I bought a new Ibanez SR1200E that came with Elixir Nanoweb medium gauge strings. I love the sound, feel, and especially the lasting time of these strings! I used to have to change strings every three to four weeks, but the Elixir Nanoweb strings last for months! I got an Ibanez SR-755 5 string bass with these strings on them and was thoroughly disappointed with the sound. It was so bad that I was disappointed with my bass purchase until I changed to a different set of strings. I play slap style a LOT and these strings are just not suitable for that style. I am surprised Ibanez is using these as stock strings. The slap technique adds a lot of high and mid-high frequencies to your basslines, so its absolutely essential that the STRINGS sound punchy and add a lot of low end frequencies. The problem with these strings is that they're simply too bright. I felt like I was playing a guitar with very thick strings and not as though I was playing a high quality bass. When you pop, you can kinda get away or ignore the brightness of these strings because popping in general is bright, but when you slap these strings simply do not put out any sound whatsoever. It sounds so weak, without that punch that is required from a bass. I really don't care about the extra long life of these strings. Strings can be changed. The important thing for a musician is the sound. And for my style of playing and my tastes, these strings are very disappointing. I would highly recommend that you go to the local store and try out an Ibanez SR series bass (according to the manual all Ibanez SR basses use these strings as stock) to check the sound of these strings BEFORE buying them, especially considering the fact that they're so ridiculously over-priced.zildjianrocks
These strings are all I use on my 20+ basses, been using them since the 90s when they first came out. They seem pricey, but in the long run they are cheaper than uncoated strings because one set of Elixirs will outlast three or more sets of uncoated strings. I get close to a year out of each set. They sound like nickel roundwounds because they are, without the highest "clangy" metallic sound. Plus they feel so silky! I'm sold!elibbe
I have used Elixir strings on my 6 string acoustic guitars for years and love them. So being that bass is my first instrument I thought I would finally spend the extra money and try them out. I was really disappointed. First, they do last longer. That's all the good things I have to say. Onto the bad. The E string was dull, not bright at all. It sounds dull, quite, and is totally out of whack. Even after a few weeks the low E could not hold a steady note, adjusted intonation, tried different tunings for it like drop D, string produced a constant whah, alternating a bit sharp and then a bit flat. It should be noted that previous strings have never done this on my bass and the E was the exact same diameter as them. The E was dull and the other three were very bright, I like bright, but they dwarfed the E, almost muting it at higher volumes and during live performance. The other strings all seemed to have a buzz and rattle effect on my bass frets, I do run with a low action, but I have had heaveys on my bass that buzzed and rattled less than these strings. Over all they suck and I was very disappointed especially considering the price! Threw on a new set of the strings I had on before the Elixirs, everything was good again.Blacklotus
