I love the feel of these strings. The tone is exactly how I like. My sound is more dynamic than before. Contrary to other reviews, they DO stay in tune (check your intonation and guitar setup in general) and they DO last a long time. I'm not a fan of strings that have windings that work against you. Got these just sampling a few string sets and stuck them on my 2005 Tele Deluxe, they have a fairly decent tone & output compared to my Slinkies and seem to be good quality but my major complaint is the G B and E to me are under much more tension tuned at 440, kinda mixed feelings since some of my guitars are strung with 10's so for me these are 10 feeling 9's ! I've used many strings over the yrs as most guitarists do. But I always go back to Ernie Ball. They are just simply the best quality and tone wise. I'm mad it took me so long to try these though. I love the slightly heavier bottom while still having the mid gauge on the highs that you normally get from the regular slinky set. They work great for standard tuning but work even better if you tune a half step down (my main tuning). Don't hesitate and get your pack or packs today. You won't be disappointed.Vince, T

Tried this string more for helping out with a slight string buzz on the low E. Thought a heavier low E would help out, which it did. That said, awesome sounds for thumping rhythm playing while leaving a standard 10s on the high end for note bending. Great balance when comparing 9-46 hybrid sets, which seemed more out of whack for me. Can't say yet for longevity but assume similar for Regular Slinky which benefit from a string cleaning after each use.Axel

The wound g-string solved all my tuning issues as a plain g-string was not staying in tune, always flat .The wound g just tensions perfectly , the difference was amazing , great sounding strings all in all, a very happy customer.nebula900

BB King famously convinced Billy Gibbons of ZZ Top to switch to lighter strings and Billy never looked back. Tone can be shaped so much by the amp so the primary function of strings is feel and playability. Lighter strings like these mean you can play harder for longer. I also find I'm playing more accurately because my movements needs to be more delicate.Jack C.

You have to try these strings for yourself. No matter what anyone reviews or says, this is a matter of preference. So I say spend the money and try them. I will relate my personal review now. First off Ernie Ball strings are very good strings. I would say that about Curt Magnum, DR, GHS pure Nickels and Fender pure Nickels also. I play pure Nickel strings which are mellow strings btw. I normally use .10s and .11s. This was an experiment for me because I went down a rathole one night on the internet reading about what strings "the stars" use. I read what people said and honestly it is entertainment in itself!!! If you use 10s or heavier, you will have to adjust your neck, action and intonation. These no getting around that. The tension is very different. If you re-adjust your tone settings on your pedals and amplifiers, you'll get a usable tone with these strings. You'll have to play with your pickups also since they respond differently. Don't use these strings if you have a heavy picking hand like SRV. If you have a light hand or can switch it up and play softly, try them. DON'T go out and play a gig if you haven't spent some time with them, especially if you are dropping down from 10s or 11s. If you use 9s, you'll probably be ok. I am all for playing without tiring and playing without hurting my tendons. Maybe I will stick with these OR NOT. I have them on a PRS Custom 22 SE. I use 2mm V-picks. You had better use light picks with these strings. I switched to a Fender medium. So I use 11s when tuned down a half step. 10s up to pitch. If you have tendonitis from playing guitar 3 or 4 hours a day for 50 something years, these will be a refreshing change and you may not have any pain whatsoever. These are certainly the strings to use on a guitar that has a neck issue where the truss rod won't handle 11s or 10s. Nowadays, necks don't seem to be made to handle the medium or heavy gauge strings that I grew up with. Whatever I say doesn't matter. When it comes to strings, you will have to try them yourself and decide if they work for you or not. I purchased four sets to try on numerous guitars. I may get up enough nerve to use them at a gig. These may be strings to put on student guitars so they don't get discouraged.Rick

Ernie Ball has always been a high quality guitar string. Used by beginners, every day pickers, and professional musicians. They provide great sound and a great feel when played on a cheap guitar, or high dollar instrument. I’ve been playing guitar for over 40 years, performing in several bands on rhythm and lead electric guitar. I currently mostly play a PRS Custom 24, a Fender Strat Elite and a couple ESP’s I’m fond of. I have always used the ‘big name, low cost’ strings until I decided to give Stringjoy a try and see if there is really any difference. I was blown away. The strings are smooth as silk, feel consistent up and down the neck and from low E to high E, and they stay in tune much better than any of my previous strings. I usually use my fingernail to run along the underside of the thinnest E string, to feel for bumps in the string caused by the frets. It’s a quick way to check to see if it’s time to change strings. After 2+ weeks of daily play, I feel very little fret indentation on the Stringjoy strings, much longer than I am used to. I find myself picking up the guitar more often, getting more creative, and figuring out leads I hadn’t pulled off before. first thing you notice upon opening the package is the ball end and wrap of the string. the wrap goes right up to the ball end with NO slack (if you look at commercial grade brands the ball is loose and the wraps look weak) the length is extra long so you have plenty of sting for any scale neck the balance of the light 10’s is different in that the 48 on the low E looks like it would be heavy at first however, when you string ur ax up you notice a FULL rich tone and the stings feel very strong under your fingers. They bend with ease and the 48 does NOT feel heavy at all! although they are not “coated†the very tight wrap of the winding gives a smooth and fast feel similar to a coated sting. a HUGE plus for a guy that likes coated strings and is converting over! after giving them a proper stretch I tried to intentionally knock them out of tune with a heavy hand while playing both rhythm and lead playing….they stayed perfectly in tune put my freshly strung ax in my gig bag and headed out to my gig (hour away)..took it out once arrived, was still in tune…played the gig…stayed in tune… woke up the next morning and grabbed my guitar for my morning strum and some coffee…you guessed it…STILL in tune! Extremely musical and beefy tone from StringJoy! Everyone should really try these, its tricky to describe with words but no doubt, any guitar player would feel and hear the difference IMMEDIATELY! I used to have to buy the Skinny Top Heavy Bottom and Power Slinky set in order to get the low and high strings that I preferred but ever since Ernie Ball came out with this set I don't have to. It's my go to set of strings for standard because I like tight strings that I can chug or shred on. Plus they last forever. Get these!Rollin

The biggest selling point for Super Slinky strings is their magnificent tone. There really aren't any strings that sound better than these for hard rock. But as others have noted, they are sometimes prone to premature breakage of the unwound strings at the ball end. It you use a locking tremolo like a Floyd Rose, then this isn't an issue, as you'll be cutting off the ball ends anyway. But for everyone else, he's a trick that I (and many other players) have been using for Super Slinky's ever since the 80's. Just grab your soldering iron and solder the string down where it's twisted around the ball. Just be sure that the twisted part is nicely coated with solder and you shouldn't have any more problems with early breakage. Don't worry, it won't mess up their tone of anything like that… not if you do it right. Try it and see!Rasterburn

These are really nice! They deliver very warm and round tones when playing clean; however, when using overdrive or distortion, the tone becomes pretty monstrous! Because of their thickness, understand they're not made for easy bends and jazzy licks. Additionally, if your guitar is set-up for 9's, or even 10's, you'll need to make slight adjustments in your action, especially if you're using a trem.Shane S.

These strings are coated to protect them from wear. The company Aurora went a step further, and colored the coating. So if you can find a set in your preferred gauge and color, get them. They ware well, and sound good.lmssrc

If you haven't tried them since their packaging was reinvented, they're definitely worth a look now. Tried D'Addario pure nickel strings, found the wound three to be too low output. I swear the core wire looked like it belonged in acoustic strings. Maybe I got a factory defect, who knows. Gibson strings sound great initially but the 'G' starts to sound dead after a week and the wound strings sound dead and filthy in three weeks. These on the other hand sound marvelous. They sound great out of the package, stay balanced, and sound good for longer than I thought possible.MidnightRiderInTX

I have since increased my heard of guitars to 10 electric guitars and 3 bass guitars. I have come to favor the Ernie Ball lights and super lights on almost all my guitars. I play the 9's on all of my Stratocaster copies and the super lights on the 3/4 size guitars. I love the feel as far as tone, intonation, flexibility ease of bends and how the strings hold up as a whole. I would definitely recommend to a friend or buy this produce again.Antonio

My logic was that while I may run out of TP, I would never run out of strings for my guitars. Long story short, you cannot go wrong with the tone of 10s. I do like them better than the 11s. They are much clearer in the low end and you get more definition. I have to do less EQing when recording and they just seem to pop better in a mix. The only downside is that they are taking me time to get used to, I play very heavy handed and these are much easier to bend. But I can already see that I have less hand fatigue.Richard

These are the strings SRV used, Need I say more. They do not break ever. I mean ever. They give you the good SRV sound, but its not only for SRV either, if you can handle it play a little Metallica through them, a little GN'R. They make everything you play sound great with big fat tone. Not for faint of Heart as you need finger strength. They will eat your fingers at first but you get use to them. These strings are incredible bright and scream SRV tone. The unwound G is such a quintessential part of playing, and for the first time I hear a G string and don't think it sounds off. Back in 2010 when I got into guitar, I didn't know which guitar strings to go for. So I tried to search for bands I liked to find out what guitar strings they used, and alot used Ernie Balls. So from there it was already a winner, and when I tried them for the first time, they just added something to the tone that I really liked, so from there it was my go-to for electric, no matter what type of electric guitar. At the start I avioded ernie balls because I thought they looked like candy bags. The 10-46 sets are not as strident on the highs as most others , there a little bit smoother on the highs for the E-B-G strings. There long lasting and stretch quickly too stay in tune. These are dynamic and punchy in my tube amps ! Once I set my intonation changing strings my guitar needs little else set to set ! The feel is a little unique as they feel smoother than others and bends are easy and they take extreme bends well no breakage ! Cobalt are much brighter if you want or need more highs !golddust742

I have been using Ernie Ball strings for quite some time. I've gone through most of the gauges and I was set on the Mega Slinkys. Then I saw that EB came out with the lightest strings available called Zippy Slinky. I was way excited to try these out. My guitar center carried the strings and I bought 3 sets. As I was putting the strings on my guitar, I couldn't believe how thin they were especially the high E string. I played my tele after tuning the strings and I was amazed at how awesome they played and sounded! They are extremely easy to play and stay in tune and not one string broke. You don't have to play soft or delicate with these strings. I play surf and these strings really do the job. I'll be sticking with Zippys for now on.Dan

There was a point in time when I used ernie ball's set like this one. The problem with those is that, for me at least, the high strings are too skinny. With the dunlops it feels like they're supposed to be this way. I don't have to change my pick attack when going back and forth between the low and high strings. Wonderful.Properpat

First off, I'll admit I didn't take perfect care of these strings. Right after putting them on, I had to leave for a week and all together, I've had them on for around a month now. I cloth down my strings usually a few times a week, or whenever I pick up my instrument. However, these strings are about ready to have their goodbye. My three highest strings are showing some major rusting and something like that distracts me a lot, sadly. I can't give a better review than three because I am very disappointed with the string life I've just seen with this pack. Putting the bad aside, if you don't mind replacing these more often than you may be used to, it could be something worth looking at. The top gauge feels very smooth at first and gives some great tones. The bottom end also has a wonderful output and has not faced too many similarities for me as my rusting issues with my top half. I would say that these strings could help out a dedicated rhythm player or someone just looking to try something new. As for me, I haven't given up on this gauge of strings and will soon be buying D'addarios of the same specsVinneh

I really like these strings. They are warm, and give what I believe to be the best tone on my Stratocaster's and Telecaster. I don't really remember when I first started using Pure Nickel strings (of any brand), but I DO know I have never used anything but Pure Nickel since. The strings got a 4 star rating. I purposely omitted 1 star because, I feel they don't last as long as say a Nickel wound D'Addario would…but then again, I have not found a Pure Nickel D'Addario set of strings. So I forfeit the longevity for the tone. I DID just today order some Fender 150M (medium gauge 11's)…which are also Pure Nickel. I would never order 10 sets of strings if I didn't like them. Once I get to play the 11's, I will give a review on that product page. As far as Fender Pure Nickel strings go…you can't go wrong on the tonal quality. Rock on!!!White Dog

For years I've played flatwound strings, but when I bought my new Fender American Professional Jaguar I was taken by how lively and expressive the strings were! I left them on. There was a learning curve, with me having to learn a lighter touch, but the more I played them the more I liked them, I went on the Fender website, clicked on the "Chat with us" button, and asked what set came on the Jaguar. It was this set – the Fender 250L Super 250 Nickel-Plated Steel Electric Guitar Strings. VERY musical, VERY expressive! BUY THESE ! I hadn't used Fender strings for 30 years . A friend of mine bought out a music store so to liquidate he sold me all the strings and drum sticks in stock .. there were mostly Fender strings so I started using them . 20 packs of 9's lasted me well over a year . I work at least 3 night a week as a lead guitarists / vocalist . so I use my main Strat a lot . after I ran out of Fender's I used GHS and noticed I was breaking strings .. so I tried the Ernie Ball's .. breaking strings again ! I went to a local music store and bought a pack of Fender's . as an experiment I wasted to see how long before one would break . SIX WEEKS ! .. THEY LASTED 6 WEEKS ! .. That's 18 gigs , 3 hours pr night for a month and a half every Thursday Friday and Saturday . and they still sounded good ! FENDER RULES !horsesass123

I have been using Stingjoy string on my 3 Ibanez electric guitars and a 5 string Fender Jazz bass bass for a couple years now. I really cannot comment on the bass strings- I just do not change them often enough. The electric guitars on the other hand I change quite frequently. I have found that the Strinjoy strings make more and a broader sound 'acoustically'- that is with the guitar unplugged, and as I use low to medium output PUPS that 'acoustic' sound translates when plugged in. Over the years I have managed to get a handle on Floyd Rose double locking systems which can offer really solid tuning stability once you do learn how to manage them. With the Stringjoy strings the tuning stability on my FR guitars went from very good to ridiculously solid. Once the a new set of strings are settled in, If I stick to whole tone bends or < and nothing environmental intervenes, I can play 6 plus hours a day and be not need to tune, or if I do it is just to sharpen the high E and perhaps B string occasionally. The tuning stability coupled with the great sound and extended time the strings sound good has made Stringjoy strings my electric guitar strings of choice.Shaun F

This FiveStar review is really more of a projected rating. At the time I ordered the super balanced set, I also ordered a set of Broadways. They are beautiful strings – amazing tone and vibracy. Plus they’ve lasted 3 months- a LONG for all the bending I do. This may be partly because I also decided to use the StringJoy string conditioner, a product Ive always stayed away from. Stringjoys formula is awesome and most importantly safe for the guitar wood and finish (I ran a test on a couple beaters). I’m looking forward to trying the Balanced set- I’ve pieced sets together to get that combination- perfect for taming the loud G string on my Strat.
