I must to have pedal for rhythm guitar players. Very fat an saturated sound, perfect for riffs. I use with a vintage style Ibanez trough an clean tube amp channel, and it is amazing. The tubes are roaring with this pedal. I think it best suits for semi-hollow, vintage instruments with warm sound, cause combined with the Muff you will get a fat but enjoyable sound,. but with very a clean and bright instruments it will be more like harsh. The size is much more pleasant than the original Big Muff and its still massive. The tone on/off switch is a good feature, cause when you have your own EQ settings most of the time you dont want to mess it up with your pedals, but if you want, its still an option. Also, I recognized when its the tone off, you get more gain and headroom. The tone wicker give you more high-mids/presence. Useful when play muffed solos and you go higher in the fretboard.
Can't say much that hasn't been said already. What I can say after using this pedal for a year is that it is the best bigmuff out there. It's all about the tone wicker. To me it's like a vintage bigmuff switch. you flip it and holy dancing cows instant grit and velcro-like-texture fuzziness. you combo this with the right tube amp and Wallah! Siamese Dream tone. Cool thing is, costs much much less what you'd pay for a vintage (banged-unreliable-overpriced-oversized) V4-V5 bigmuff. Careful with the tonebypass, the thing is a 30db volume boost. good for saturated tubes I guess. in my opinion, it's as useless as it was 30 years ago in the V3 or V5 pedals. it does sement this version as a definitive throwback. both switches are there for a reason, EHX knew it, I know it and now you know it. (funny story: Musiciansfriend sensors the word MxUxFxF. cannot use it in the review or tags, yeah, it's a dirty woord to 'em. They did allow EHX to put it on the title though!)zaiten
very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren't the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus. the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can't really go wrong with the big muff pi. my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead.. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.phatjbp

How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad

Sound: With the bass big muff i can get that fat buzz like cranking the gain on your bass head. The fact that you can choose the "volume" "tone" and "sustain" allows you to get the right sound you're looking for. I keep it in the dry position to be able to blend my original signal with the effect, that way i keep my clean bass tone mixed with the fuzzyness of the effect. I like it dark, so i keep my tone knob at 10 o clock. The knobs are pretty sensible (sensitive?) so until you reach the sound you like you have to move them just a tiny bit at the time. It wont cut my low end, and mixed with the POG i can get that Jamiroquaish distortion sound that kick @ss. Great sound for the price… you can wait to get a russian big muf for 350 bucks (really hard to find those) used, or a brand new bass big muff for 80… hmmmm i love it even more 🙂 Features: the three knobs and the tone selector gives you the chance to find your own buzz overdrive sound, you just need to spend a few hours with it. Again, really tiny changes on the knobs change a lot the sound, so you gotta work them with precision. Ease of Use: Easy, dummy proof. A few hours with it and live you just make few adjustments to fit with the band's sound and you're done. Quality: THese new EHX pedals are not all metal like the old ones, but still it seems to be some sort of refurbished metal material, the knobs are simple plastic… i had them for 3 or 4 weeks and so far so good. Value: for 80 bucks it's the best out there i believe The Wow Factor: do you care about how a pedal "loos like" or how it improves your sound? I used to have one of those early 90s army green sovtek muffs that I absolutely loved. Hands down it was my favorite pedal. Unfortunately it was stolen. I bought this pedal to replace it since everyone seems to say that it is the closest thing going. I think this pedal sounds really good but it just is not quite as smooth and creamy as those old russian muffs. I like the little bass boost switch and both tones are very useable but if you really want that super fluffy, marshmallowy, siamese dream-esque distortion you might just have to go find an old one. I have also found that it sounds completely different depending on what amp you have it plugged into. Not just a little different but almost like it is not even the same pedal. This is to be expected of course but I was really suprised at just how much the tone varied. Into my fender twin it really does not sound that good and I like my mini fuzz face 10x more. Into the effects loop of my orange rockerverb 100 it really comes alive and has a great tone. It also sounds pretty good in the loop of my mesa express5/50 combo but if you are planning to pair this up with a fender you might be sorely disappointed.NicFx

The sound initially blew me away, and i am extremely satisfied with the purchase. At this price point you aren't going to find a better fuzz. I use this pedal for home use only, so i can't comment on how it sounds blasted and live. The build quality appears and feels clean and solid, but i can't comment on durability yet because i've only had this pedal for a month. The good things about it are: it's loud, small, and has a lot of range to make different sounds with. The downsides are that it doesn't have a blend knob, and getting just the right tone is difficult. That being said, there is plenty of room to adjust everything on either side once the tone is found, so you will be able to get what you need eventually. I agree with a previous review, it is nice to have an eq before the pedal to get everything just right.Jimmison
Always looking to get the Santana, David Gilmour, Gary Moore type sustain !!! I have been disapointed with several pedals, mostly being to 'harsh'. In the past, my Mesa DC-5 took care of sustain but now I do most of my playing through a Fender Blues Jr, and a Crate 20w transistor amp. This pedal makes these amps sing !!!!! It takes VERY LITTLE input from the knobs to get a great sound. I started with all settings at 12 o clock and kept dialing back towards 0 to get my awesome sound. There is always room for another pedal, but at least now, I can quit spending money on distortion type pedals that did not give me what I was looking for !!!KamakaziFlyboy
It definitely gets that unique fuzz sound, but it comes with baggage. The tone falls flat for anything below 9 o' clock turn on sustain. So if you want a subtle fuzz without heaps of distortion, your out of luck. It hijacks your tone, which is to an extent expected of a fuzz pedal, but the result is it not playing nice with other pedals. Overall I'd only recommend to someone who absolutely must have a fuzz, but is unwilling to spend more on a higher grade pedal. Its a one trick pony, so it excels at very specific tone, but the tone/sustain knobs are wasted. You can tweak it but it doesn't do much.jd1337

Basically, I bought this pedal because I was beginning to build on my pedal inventory. I already had Wah and a compressor and next in line (literally) was a fuzz-tone. I read reviews about this one and it seemed to be what I was looking for. The reviews also said that some people didn't like it, that it wasn't for everyone. I guess because it's a bit grungy, but I wanted to play "Glycerine" by Bush, and this pedal fit the bill to a T. It's also variable with the controls, so it doesn't have to be really scraggly sounding. The one I received from ebay "brand new in the box", came with a battery installed, but when the battery died on me (very quickly), I went to open up the bottom and found that 3 out of the 4 screws were stripped beyond repair. I had to drill them out and buy new screws. Obviously I wasn't the first one to change batteries on THIS pedal. So much for Brand New! All-in-all, the pedal is going to work out very nicely. I like the look. It takes up less real estate than the full-sized Big Muff, but more than the Nano Big Muff. That was the decider for me, to compromise on the size.eokratz

The sound initially blew me away, and i am extremely satisfied with the purchase. At this price point you aren't going to find a better fuzz. I use this pedal for home use only, so i can't comment on how it sounds blasted and live. The build quality appears and feels clean and solid, but i can't comment on durability yet because i've only had this pedal for a month. The good things about it are: it's loud, small, and has a lot of range to make different sounds with. The downsides are that it doesn't have a blend knob, and getting just the right tone is difficult. That being said, there is plenty of room to adjust everything on either side once the tone is found, so you will be able to get what you need eventually. I agree with a previous review, it is nice to have an eq before the pedal to get everything just right.Jimmison
Always looking to get the Santana, David Gilmour, Gary Moore type sustain !!! I have been disapointed with several pedals, mostly being to 'harsh'. In the past, my Mesa DC-5 took care of sustain but now I do most of my playing through a Fender Blues Jr, and a Crate 20w transistor amp. This pedal makes these amps sing !!!!! It takes VERY LITTLE input from the knobs to get a great sound. I started with all settings at 12 o clock and kept dialing back towards 0 to get my awesome sound. There is always room for another pedal, but at least now, I can quit spending money on distortion type pedals that did not give me what I was looking for !!!KamakaziFlyboy
It definitely gets that unique fuzz sound, but it comes with baggage. The tone falls flat for anything below 9 o' clock turn on sustain. So if you want a subtle fuzz without heaps of distortion, your out of luck. It hijacks your tone, which is to an extent expected of a fuzz pedal, but the result is it not playing nice with other pedals. Overall I'd only recommend to someone who absolutely must have a fuzz, but is unwilling to spend more on a higher grade pedal. Its a one trick pony, so it excels at very specific tone, but the tone/sustain knobs are wasted. You can tweak it but it doesn't do much.jd1337

i cant believe Musicians Friend is restricting a word that is used in a product they sell. Replace ** with ff The Metal Mu** gave me the sound I was looking for. I have a Marshall DSl40c and an LTD EC401 and they rock. However, when the pedal is disengaged, there was little to no volume, so if I wanted a clean sound, I had to unplug my guitar from the pedal and plug it into the amp directly. I emailed EHX about the issue, they said it was a sensor issue and to return it to MF. I have returned the unit and I am waiting on my replacement. The return was painless, as I expected it would be, can't wait to get my replacement.Kyle E
Great for a pedal into a decent clean. Settings are touchy tho; makes it a little tricky to dial it in at first, but once you get a feel for it, it's not so bad. Go against your intuition to crank it; it seems to prefer being restrained. Otherwise, lots of different tones; very versatile. Seems to prefer passive pickups; my active's get a little screechy and bring out that "pedal-ly" tone, whereas the passives give a more organic sound. It's not as good as plugging straight into a Peavy, Randall or Boogie or something. A pedal never will be. But as far as a pedal into a clean amp goes.. you can get some pretty satisfying "high gain but still natural sounding" tones. Without the price tag of a high gain stack. Basically it's the sweetest pedal distortion i've played. Such a range of sounds that you can dial into nearly any amp, guitar or situation. But yeah, don't expect it to sound like you're plugged into a satan. It's more for an all purpose rig that you want to get some brutal metal out of. Also, I got some cool stuff out of it by plugging it into my FX loop.. but i usually keep it in front of the amp as it's a more versatile position. On my H&K you can use it as a boost into the lead channel, but it breaks up pretty easily, gets real noisy, and actually sounds way more brutal into the clean channel. My eq pedal works better as a boost into the amp distortion. By the way, a noise gate comes in handy. Also a Wah after the pedal.. makes things interesting.Kenny
Well not to do a life story I am the lead guitarist, in a giging punk band. for the last year and a half been trying to find a good tone at such a loud volume. So I settled on a mxr full bore metal pedal. And a lbr boost from electro hanmonix. Now the mxr is a good pedal, however when combined with the boos thats where trouble began. when i hit the boost for very short modest solos, it is punk, it would take all the bottom end out with a huge shot of mid range. I tweeked and turned till the cows cane home nothin. now with the metal miff, with the top boost saved the day. I was worried it would just flood me with treble and sound very bad not so. I am a novice bass player and this was my first fuzz other than a couple home built experiments. All I can say is WOW! The range of fuzz on this pedal is insane (in a good way). The blend control really helps to add definition to those low notes that usually get lost in fuzz. The built in noise gate is worth its weight in gold. The crossover section is a feature that I thought of as just another bell and whistle until I really started messing around with it. Making adjustments to this section can completely change the way the pedal sounds. I would recommend this pedal to any bass player looking for some fuzz with definition.stuffnjunk84
I used the original Bass BigMuff Pi as my main fuzz box for a while and while it created usable tones, I just couldn't seem to get anything to sound just how I was imagining my sound. Well, after purchasing this I am getting all the tones I need, and much more. The overall tone of this is actually better than the original BigMuff. A much more tweakable, better sounding fuzz overall. Even just that is worth the extra money. But on top of this, it has a noise gate and a crossover with high and low pass filters which is a truly astounding feature. Originally I didn't picture myself using the crossover as much but you can get some CRAZY good tones with it. One example would be Cliff Burton's "for whom the bell tolls" intro tone. All in all, this pedal is most definitely worth the extra cash over the original BassMuff. Take it from someone who has used both in a band setting. Im crazy in love with this pedal!!!!!! Lets go over why: Sound: Its that crazy classic harsh fuzz distortion EHX is known for!!! IMPORTANT!!!! Since it is analog the amount of signal that goes into it is gonna affect the sound drastically!!! (Low volume=weak fuzz; High Volume= Strong fuzz distortion!!!) Uses: Super versatile!!! I use this for Dance Gavin Dave's Robot With Human Hair Pt. 3. Circa Survive's Imaginary Enemy and Glass Arrows. All the Muse stuff. Its just great with the blend knob (KILLER FEATURE!!!!) and Crossover section I get all kinds of in-between filter settings I could never get before with a flanger or phaser although it sounds freaking killer with modulation added!!! Adds good full fuzz flavor to my vibrato and phase 100!!! All in all: The standard bass big pi is great and it gets the same sound but if you want a lot of very practical features that can be used in live and studio situations do not hesitate to buy this pedal. How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent

I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. I must to have pedal for rhythm guitar players. Very fat an saturated sound, perfect for riffs. I use with a vintage style Ibanez trough an clean tube amp channel, and it is amazing. The tubes are roaring with this pedal. I think it best suits for semi-hollow, vintage instruments with warm sound, cause combined with the Muff you will get a fat but enjoyable sound,. but with very a clean and bright instruments it will be more like harsh. The size is much more pleasant than the original Big Muff and its still massive. The tone on/off switch is a good feature, cause when you have your own EQ settings most of the time you dont want to mess it up with your pedals, but if you want, its still an option. Also, I recognized when its the tone off, you get more gain and headroom. The tone wicker give you more high-mids/presence. Useful when play muffed solos and you go higher in the fretboard.
Can't say much that hasn't been said already. What I can say after using this pedal for a year is that it is the best bigmuff out there. It's all about the tone wicker. To me it's like a vintage bigmuff switch. you flip it and holy dancing cows instant grit and velcro-like-texture fuzziness. you combo this with the right tube amp and Wallah! Siamese Dream tone. Cool thing is, costs much much less what you'd pay for a vintage (banged-unreliable-overpriced-oversized) V4-V5 bigmuff. Careful with the tonebypass, the thing is a 30db volume boost. good for saturated tubes I guess. in my opinion, it's as useless as it was 30 years ago in the V3 or V5 pedals. it does sement this version as a definitive throwback. both switches are there for a reason, EHX knew it, I know it and now you know it. (funny story: Musiciansfriend sensors the word MxUxFxF. cannot use it in the review or tags, yeah, it's a dirty woord to 'em. They did allow EHX to put it on the title though!)zaiten
very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren't the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus. the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can't really go wrong with the big muff pi. my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead.. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.phatjbp

Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. I must to have pedal for rhythm guitar players. Very fat an saturated sound, perfect for riffs. I use with a vintage style Ibanez trough an clean tube amp channel, and it is amazing. The tubes are roaring with this pedal. I think it best suits for semi-hollow, vintage instruments with warm sound, cause combined with the Muff you will get a fat but enjoyable sound,. but with very a clean and bright instruments it will be more like harsh. The size is much more pleasant than the original Big Muff and its still massive. The tone on/off switch is a good feature, cause when you have your own EQ settings most of the time you dont want to mess it up with your pedals, but if you want, its still an option. Also, I recognized when its the tone off, you get more gain and headroom. The tone wicker give you more high-mids/presence. Useful when play muffed solos and you go higher in the fretboard.
Can't say much that hasn't been said already. What I can say after using this pedal for a year is that it is the best bigmuff out there. It's all about the tone wicker. To me it's like a vintage bigmuff switch. you flip it and holy dancing cows instant grit and velcro-like-texture fuzziness. you combo this with the right tube amp and Wallah! Siamese Dream tone. Cool thing is, costs much much less what you'd pay for a vintage (banged-unreliable-overpriced-oversized) V4-V5 bigmuff. Careful with the tonebypass, the thing is a 30db volume boost. good for saturated tubes I guess. in my opinion, it's as useless as it was 30 years ago in the V3 or V5 pedals. it does sement this version as a definitive throwback. both switches are there for a reason, EHX knew it, I know it and now you know it. very classic big muff pi. standard fuzz/distortion. these aren't the best sounding big muffs, but they still sound great for way less money. having an led and power supply jack for modern power supplies is a plus. the construction is way better than the early ones, so less failures and more consistency. true bypass is standard dp3t switches. you can always gut it and put in your own 8) you can't really go wrong with the big muff pi. my suggestion tho is run it on batteries that are almost dead.. some true magic happens when you starve these down to about 6 volts.phatjbp

Very helpful staff even while very busy with other customers. Was able to try both the Fender Downtown Express and the Fly Rig V2. Yes the Fly Rig was more expensive but it also had more features. I've had the Liverpool character pedal for a long time. It sounds like a Vox. I've had both versions of the RK5 Fly Rig (still have and gig v2) and the dUg DP3X (gig this one, too). I hadn't heard about this until I got my latest issue of Guitar Player magazine in the mail and these guys are al over the outside back cover ad. I ordered it immediately through Sweetwater. It sounds great! I have the UAFX Ruby, a Quilter Superblock US (shoulda been the UK, I know) and a Mooer GE 300 Lite: all trying to solve the "silent stage" conundrum when I can't bring out my Top Hat or Dr Z or Fender TRRI. But this is the pedal I was waiting YEARS for: XLR and 1/4" outputs for FOH and monitor amp, respectively. Voxy Voxness that's Voxtastic for the convenient, silent stage live application. While the other products are fine in their own capacities (and, to be fair, the Ruby sounds slightly better though digitally noisy in live situations), I would've saved about a thousand bucks had I known this existed. But, um, no built-in tuner. That'll cost ya a star, particularly since the RK5 and the dUg have built-in tuners. (Really, Tech 21?) Totally a keeper!!
I bought this because I'm a huge fan of the RK5 Fly Rig, but I wanted something that was programmable and MIDI controllable, to integrate with my pedalboard. The PSA2 does all that perfectly but it's the sounds that have blown me away. It sounds incredible. Every Marshall tone is achievable and authentic, so are Fender and Mesa tones, and anything in between. And it really responds well to picking dynamics, and when you back off the volume on the guitar it cleans up perfectly. And…it just feels and sounds better than digital – my HX Stomp is now for effects only. I couldn't be happier, it's exactly what I needed. Thoroughly recommended!rossmacrae777

First of all, I've owned this pedal for about 4-5 years now without a tube change, so I can vouch for its reliablity. It has NEVER "failed" "acted up" or "not worked" on me. I tend to use Fender amps for their pristine clean tones, and use pedals to colour it. I'm running it through a Concert 2 (like a suped up Deluxe Reverb), before that, a Hotrod Deluxe. There really is no other way to mimic a Marshall with a couple of cookin' EL34's, but I think this pedal nails that attitude pretty darn close. The muffin just hits that creamy plexi territory with authority (Cream, Hendrix), and can open up to the harder styles of 70's rock (Wishbone Ash, Thin Lizzy, etc). Only complaints I had are the size of the adapter, and the placement of where it plugs into the pedal (on the side, little fragile thing). It should've been put up between the in/output jacks where it is less likely to get bent if the pedal is tipped over. I have fine tuned my amp and pedal to get a very close sound to Duane Allman's on the Fillmore East album. The only thing holding this pedal back is that you just can't replicate tube sag without actual overdriving power tubes (where the marshall sound comes from). If you don't want to shell out, or be limited to a marshall amp, try this pedal out. Be patient, I found I had to dial the treble to 0 before I could REALLY dig into it. Also swapped the left 12AX7 for a 12AY7 to warm it up a bit. Kind of limiting, but it works for that 60's marshall tone.RideOnSkyDog
I wasn't impressed. In my opinion it was a lot like a old DOD super distorion. Nice clean overdrive or a little fatter over drive. These tube pedals to me seem to keep too many highs, and I really don't like that. I like really smooth creamy tone, and these tube pedals don't produce. This isn't like an old Chandler tube driver. More like a tube eq. I overall just wasn't impressed. I'm biased as I love fuzz pedals, always have. I use a Keely fuzz head and a big muff, from cracked sustain to wide open. Overall, I think it would hold up for quite awhile, EHX has great quality with a few exception, aka "the black russian big muff" however, lately their stuff is rediculously tough.RickPlayerSC
I play a Les Paul with P-90's, and a G&L Strat, and was looking for that classic tube blues clip. I have a Gen 1 Fender Mustang 3, and while it is loud, it has noise in the preamp. This is well known. I plugged the pedal directly into the effects return, bypassing the front end, and not only is it quieter, I have instantly recognizable classic rock and blues overdrive tone. It's amazing. It's even better with a compressor in front of it. I highly recommend this in front of whatever clean amp you have to add great tube tone.RadarBruce

So far this pedal is everything I was hoping for, it's a big m u f f (musicians friend won't let me say the name of a product) all the way but with a mid boost pedal built in. I love everything about it with the exception of the noise gate, honestly it was never a feature I really wanted in the pedal and could take it or leave it from the start but if you do intend to use it you should know that it works against one of the main features of the big m u f f and that's sustain. The gate knob may as well be an on/off switch due to the fact that it either cuts noise or doesn't, there is no in between and its a really hard cut. With the sustain all the way up the gate will 100% of the time cut a sustained note long before you desired the note to end. It's flat out a terrible, useless feature and easily cured with a real gate/noise suppressor. Aside from that everything else about this pedal is top notch, with an expression pedal you can even simulate a cool fuzz wah using the mid boost, cranking the mids to full and the freq to around half. Honestly great distortion, just ignore the gate.ChrisK
This is a killer fuzz/dist pedal. You get great tones from it that can go from hendrix to the pumpkins and beyond into stoner territory. The mids section is amazing. It can turn this pedal into any kind of big muff tone you can think of. If you plug in an expression pedal, you'll get a fuzz wah effect that is a classic combo, like pb and j. If you want a big muff, get this one. You won't ever need another one for sure.carara0
