1. Electro-Harmonix J Mascis Ram's Head Big Muff Pi Pedal
Product Details:
The j mascis ram’s head big muff pi fuzz pedal pays homage to the sonic center of the alt-rock legend’s iconic tone of equal parts thickness and clarity in a special edition white and violet finish. “that’s my sound. the muff is always on,” j says. “all distorted sounds begin with the muff. that’s what i grew up playing so it’s kind of amazing to have my own signature one.” based on the highly coveted 1973 electro-harmonix v2 violet ram’s head big muff, j’s signature big muff produces the indulgent fuzz and exceptional sustain used as his sonic center for decades. the fuzz is sonically more articulate than other big muffs with excellent string separation and dynamics, which make it one of the most versatile big muffs. the pedal’s response feels smooth and aggressive making your leads scream and chords thunder. feel the fuzz of a guitar giant: the j mascis ram’s head big muff pi fuzz pedal from electro-harmonix.

Reviews:
How odd. This review was flagged for writing Big Mu** using the two F's 🙂 For the money, this is a really hard pedal to beat. It goes from mild and laid-back to wild and intense. The controls feel great…like as in excellent quality. This is a reissue of the original Big Mu** PI. I tried a Big Mu** PI with Wicker and forget about it. It hissed so loud in Wicker mode that I couldn't even here myself think and it got even worse with the tone switch off. And even in the so-called Big Mu** PI mode, it didn't sound anywhere near as good as this Rams Head does. And, the Rams Head is quiet compared to the BM PI with Wicker. One more thing, The BM PI with Wicker does not say anywhere on it nor in the included paperwork where it's made, whereas the RH BM PI clearly says New York City on the face of it…Vincent
The tone sweep is nice and there are some interesting spots because it is linear while kind of non-linear at 10 to noon and about 1-2 on tone control. I can't say why but usually I had purchased like more expensive versions of ehx pedals. That being said, I think people need to realize that these are quite accurate reissues and circuits, and just because it is an affordable pedal doesn't mean it isn't great.
Overall: Floats like a stone and stings like a nest of angry hornets! This box has the buzzsaw sound down pat. The fuzz is a thick, smooth, and consistent. I like this kind of fuzz in particular because it’s less fuzzy and little more distortion-like. The Tone knob has a really wide sweep from boomy bass to mid-range Hades. It has plenty of gain on tap and even sounds pretty good with the guitar’s volume rolled back a skosh.I’ve never used the original Green Russian Muff and have only heard them compared through videos online, so I can’t speak as to how they’re different/alike. I got it because I didn’t want to haul my vintage Black Russian Muff around from gig to gig anymore because it’s getting valuable and since it was a pretty jenky design to begin with, it’s liable to break with heavy use. That being said, the reissue Green Russian Muff has a different sound than an original V8 Black Russian Muff. It doesn’t sound as good to me, but it’s not so different that I wouldn’t use the Green Russian live in lieu of the Black Russian for the aforementioned reasons. One huge plus for the Green Russian is its pedalboard friendly size. The Black Russian is the size of an 80s metal lunchbox and took up an awkward sized chunk of the pedalboard. Now there’s more room for other unnecessary boxes (gulp)! One noteworthy ding for this pedal is how difficult it is to see the script on the top of the pedal. The words are printed right underneath the knobs, so if it’s kinda dark (which it usually is) and the lights are all in front of you (which they usually are) the words are impossible to see. Overall it’s a nice fuzz especially for the price. It’s noisy, but once the music gets rolling you won’t even notice it.Brad
2. Empress Effects Heavy Distortion Pedal
Product Details:
Super cool and versatile distortion. the noise gate, extremely powerful mid control, and weight knob features allow you to dial in a range of high gain sounds from van halen to meshuggah – it even is very useful in less heavy styles of music. it's a double barrel pedal (the same circuit twice), so you can have two drastically different distortions on tap with ease. also a great tool in the studio. definitely worth the hype and price.i bought it mint and used it on maybe 3 gigs. i'm selling because the band i was using it for broke up so i no longer have a use for it. listing as "excellent" instead of "mint" because i removed the rubber feet to more easily mount to a pedal board and then promptly misplaced them. there is also a small amount of velcro residue (see picture). comes with original box, foam padding, users manual, and empress sticker.

Reviews:
Have still to explore all the tonal possibilities of this aptly-named dual distortion pedal but first impressions have been very positive. The unit is smaller and lighter than I expected but the two foot switches are well separated. With six controls for each channel plus shared 'hi' and 'lo' EQ there are plenty of tone-shaping options. The user manual helpfully suggests some settings to get you started. The internal noise gate has so far proved very effective left on the 'natural' setting. You can adjust the threshold to suit your guitar's output, but having used the pedal with guitars loaded with vintage, medium output and hot humbuckers, I've found no need to alter the default factory setting. If you're in the market for a versatile high-gain distortion pedal I would strongly recommend taking a look at this one.Christopher D.

Didn't know about Snail Oil Fine Instruments until I saw The Very Thing listed as the Stupid Deal of the Day. Very intriguing looking pedal and concept so I looked it up – made by Rob Chapman, of whom I've been a fan of for a few years now, so I dug around more and heard some great sounding demos on YouTube. Lee Anderton said in their video that some folks will buy it just for the steampunk graphics and concept; well, I love it but not that much! But the sound clips displayed a treble edge that was missing in my usual overdrive pedals. Somehow the pedal had a clear, cutting high end which isn't fizzy, so I went for it. Love it – play an open D without the high F# and you get the opening chord to the Longmire series on Netflix.K I P P
I like this pedal much more than I was expecting to be honest. It has a bit more gain than I was expecting and I would personally classify it more as an overdrive pedal than a boost really. But it has a very nice grit to it that just feels like it belongs in a whiskey commercial. I dig it.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
Solid sounding distortion pedal. It has a very unique look that I really like, however the sound of the pedal isn't all that unique. Don't get me wrong, it sounds good but a number of other pedals I have fit the same bill. That's not said to be a knock on this pedal, it stacks up well against the alternatives and I will use it from time to time I am sure but it doesn't stand out enough to earn a permanent spot on my board. It's got the usual Gain, Volume, and Tone controls plus a "Voice" control, but so far in my experimentation, that seems to do basically the same thing as the Tone control, just for a narrower range. The only real negative I've come across is that there is a bit of a volume drop with this pedal and I've so far had to turn the Volume up to 3-o'clock (or higher) to achieve unity with the clean signal.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.

Reviews:
I could spend all day yapping about this pedal…In my travels i've tried countless pedals, but got tired of having 'too many' pedals. The weight, the time it took to hook it all up. I also busk, or play where electricity isn't available, and wanted a setup where i could make one trip with everything, and keep the weight down. I've always been a fan of ZOOM products, so trying out the Multistomp series was a no-brainer for me. The 50G met all my requirements, and exceed them all after i got one and started using it. Tones that are as good as any higher priced pedal, the versatility is second to none, and the price is killer for what this pedal can do. I would say the the Bluetooth version was my favorite, then the 70CDR, then the 50G, with the 50G's new 3.0 update, the 50 G is now my favorite pedal…period. The 50G started with maybe 50 patches, now it has 172, and best of all it has the Exciter patch, which to me is required on any pedal board. All i can suggest is watch the countless demo videos of this pedal. I would recommend this pedal for any level of guitarist, i would also recommend the MS-70CDR, watch the demo videos of the 70-CDR vs Strymons…amazing I cant say enough good things about the 50G, i believe it's near the perfect all around pedal. The Multistomp series are easily, in my opinion, the best bang for the buck pedals madeLocorogue
The MS-50G pedal is first class. It is every bit as clean, quiet, and well built as the Boss pedals. It is not a replacement for the Boss line. Zoom pedals have a character of their own. Personally, I like the Zoom tone. But I'm not a guitar player. There is a great ~15 minute YouTube instructional video for the MS-50G. I got over the learning curve for writing and storing effects by watching this video, then I bought pedal. It replaces several pieces of my high quality studio gear when I need fast results that are of high level audio quality. Zoom delivers with this product. After I watched this video I purchased the pedal. I also like my G1X as a companion to this pedal. The G1X has a nice volume/expression pedal.Sean
I needed something for my living room and practicing while watching TV late at night without a full pedal board or multi-effects box. This along with a Boss RC-3 and a mini mixer for my wireless headphones provides everything I have in my studio at a mini level. The sounds are good enough. There are enough options in sound to play most anything. Eventually I'll try this little beast as a sub for my full pedal board and see how it works in a live jam. One pedal to do everything. It's not perfect but it is great. I wish Zoom would provide updates to it and a better manager. It's pretty old by today's standards and if Zoom provided updated files they would sell even more if these great little boxes. B&H had the best deal available and as always they provide excellent service. Thank you B&H. I'll Be Back, lolThomas G
5. Empress Effects – Heavy – Dual-Channel Distortion Pedal
Product Details:
In this aptly named box you'll find a huge range of killer high gain tones. from crisp, mid-driven 80's metal, to scooped, modern down-tuned brutality, this little box of sonic mayhem does it all. the two independent channels can be voiced similarly so that one channel can be used as a solo boost, or they can be voiced entirely differently by using the mid range control in conjunction with the 3 position mid frequency select switch. add in separate weight controls to shape the low end response of each channel, and a global hi/low eq section that allows you to fine tune your particular amp and cab combination, and you've got a serious tool to create a supremely heavy sounding rig. on top of all this, empress added an extremely responsive and hassle free noise gate that will ensure dead silent operation with even the most obscene amounts of gain added.

Reviews:
I bought this pedal because the distortion built into my head really just kinda sucked. So i decided to experiment with pedals and ended up getting a mxr fullbore metal pedal and that thing had no balls.. when i got this IMMEDIATELY i was impressed! Built like a tank and could take a beating.. if you're a metal musician looking to find a distortion pedal with BALLS this is your pedal!uhhhhhhhhhhhh....
The empress heavy reminds me of the type of crunch that typically comes with a tube amp. I would say that this pedal even gives some tube amps a run for their money in the crunch and tweak-ability factor. It sounds great with my crate 4×12 cab with it's stock speakers, but sounded absolutely mean coming through a friend's Randall RD212-V30 combo which has Celestion Vintage 30 speakers. I think the coolest features of this pedal are the mid frequency switches, and the weight nob. I wanted a pedal that would allow me to boost my mids and still sound heavy, and this pedal does it for me. But I really like being able to adjust my bottom end sound. I can make it super tight, or pretty sludgy. (Wish it would go just a little sludgier though) The pedal has a built in noise gate, and it does what I expected. The noise gate will slightly effect the tone of the pedal if used, but it's pretty negligible. There are only two things about this pedal that are keeping me from giving it a 5 out of 5. Number 1. I want more gain/distortion out of it. It's not like you'd mistake it for a blues pedal or anything with the gain maxed out, make no mistake, this is a metal pedal. But more gain would be awesome. I might even put a tube screamer in front of it to see how it sounds. Number 2. The "heavier" channel on this pedal does not actually sound any heavier to me. All in all, it's still an awesome pedal. I think for this pedal to really shine you're going to want active pick ups to push the gain as far as possible, and a cab/combo with high end speakers to push all of the bite. I would consider this to be a stand alone pedal to be ran through a clean channel on your amp. I wouldn't run it through a gain channel to boost it. I would recommend this pedal to any one who has a solid state amp who wants a tube amp style crunch for metal. If you want an old school metallica tone, or a deathklok tone, this might work well for you.some guy
Not a bad pedal at all. Just not worth this kind of moneyCheese
6. Tc Helicon Mic Mechanic 2 Vocal Effects Pedal W/ Reverb, Echo & Pitch Correction
Product Details:
Processing is so good and so compact these days that you don’t necessarily have to trust your vocal processing to an engineer. sometimes it’s best to do just that, especially if you luck into a really good one. but if you know what you want your sound to be, and you are more comfortable adjusting the reverb, delay, compression, de-essing, gating and pitch correction from the stage, the tc helicon mic mechanic 2 is the stompbox for you. and it’s so easy. xlr in and out with an on/off tap button for talking, along with three easy-to-use knobs. select reverb, echo and pitch correction amount and go.

Reviews:
I didnt like the product at first, the sound was to traveller and harsh. Instruction manual that came with it didnt explain that this could be changed. After a considerable search on Google I finally found instructions to tell me how to fix the problem. The reverb on the unit is good,But certainly not excellent. The reverb on my inexpensive behringer mixer is better. The pitch correction is excellent, which is the main thing I wanted it for. Overall a good product, especially at the price. I will certainly be using it on stage.boyup2012
I?m a guitarist trying to dip my feet in singing and wanted something to give me a little safety net. The pitch correction is definitely effective and not really noticeable in a mix. The echo, reverb, and multifunction tone button really do sweeten my vocals. I can?t really imagine gigging without it. It seems to be durable and well built. I?d recommend this to anybody.RYAN
Awesome vocal effects pedal. Very user friendly with the presets. Easily change delay, or echo time with tap tempo. 48 VDC phantom power for condenser mics. The tone button adds more clarity, and compression. I play and sing with different bands, and had been at the mercy of the provided PA, and effects. With this pedal, I control my own effects, and with a push of the foot switch, you can talk to the audience dry, instead of sounding like Lou Gehrig, at Yankee Stadium. Unique_Squared_inc. was an awesome seller. I was also lucky with the timing of my purchase. Through a holiday give away, I received a free T C Helicon MP-75 mic, that has a dedicated button, that controls the effects pedal. If you are using that mic, you can be as far away from the pedal, that your mic cord allows, and still turn on, or bypass the FX. The Mic Mechanic also includes a pitch control knob, that corrects notes that are a cent or two from perfect. Of course I never require that! I keep it at 12:00, and it's transparent. Turned completely clockwise, it can be used as a sort of auto tune effect. There are plenty of video reviews on the net, but I bought mine because a band member used one, and I really liked it. It appears to be bullet proof construction, that can certainly handle the abuse of "the road"! Buy it, you'll like it.**-_-._*-*.._**-.*

Dried really quickly and was kinda flaky after a while. It burned my lips when I used it but I suppose it wasn't that bad. The formula really should be looked at and changed, but other than that the packaging was very cute. I would not buy the product again though. Not unless the company changed the formula.tiffany.h

Reviews:
A balanced metal distortion with a tight crisp sound. Not overly harsh like a lot of pedals, but maybe not enough bite if you want an extreme sound. The boost modes and tone controls a low for a nice variety of sound options. It takes time to dial everything in but Im surprised by how much character this pedal has. I read a lot of reviews and watched videos looking for something that was metal but balanced and this is spot on. Note that it does not have an internal battery compartment, you will need a power supply.Old metalhead
First things first, this thing is tiny, and it is POWERFUL. I don't think I've ever had the gain past noon, because I've never needed to. My amp is by no means a super high gain monster (EL84 circuit, 1×12 combo), but this pedal makes it one. For the kind of stuff I like to play (80s thrash, early death metal), I think it does a really good job. Between the three switch positions and a really flexible tone knob, you can get a really wide range of usable tones with it. When I showed it to my brother (a much better player than me, with a lot better gear), he was astonished when I told him the price. I almost had to pry him away from the thing. If there are complaints to be had, I have to echo one of the previous reviews in saying that the hi-boost adds almost too much highs to be useful. But I guess if you switch to a neck pickup and roll off the tone, it can be okay. If this one breaks (hopefully not), I'll definitely replace it with more of the same.Eric

Reviews:
I have two of these. After buying the first and being pleased with it, I bought another Lixada computer that did not have all the functions this one had for my other bike. That was a mistake. the other Lixada computer gave me lots of trouble, so I went and bought another one of these. It's been smooth sailing ever since.kayleigh19
Excellent and simple to use that gives you precisely what you need.camello577
15. Red Witch Synthotron Analog Guitar Synth Pedal
Product Details:
Great multi-use pedal. the monophonic analogue synth is the heart of this pedal, but i also used it a lot as a filter over more normal guitar tones. great all around sound but also good for going vintage. kind of a steal of a pedal in that way. if you like to get weird it'll do it. if you need layers to an already great tone it'll do it. if you're a player like me who likes to get weird but has a band that doesnt you can use it as kind of a multitool. also used it to make my cheap keyboard sound way better. listed as good condition because the switches all function but are a little loose, plus the logo is scraped off a little. still works great.

Reviews:
I use the Hot British through a Epiphone valve junior and a Blues DeVille; guitars are an ESP eclipse and Gibson standard. This is the best sounding distortion I have used so far. Even with the distortion on medium-high, I can hear individual notes in a chord distinctly. For example, when I play the beginning to "Creeping Death" by Metallica, I can hear the individual notes I play on the 5th string even though I'm also pounding on the 6th. The distortion is hot, even when the drive is turned way down. You may want the classic pedal if you want something less hot. Excellent distorted sound, pure tube heaven. I wish I had chosen this pedal first. It is expensive, but I would not have purchased all those other pedals that now sound bad compared to this one. I can't stop playing since I got this, much to the dismay of my familyBob
I've been looking for some authentic and tweakable sound with tube warmth that could work in my home studio, which I could use for real heavy riffs recording. Together with cabinet plugins it works just fine for me and inspires more creativity. Just need to make sure I note/photo the setups that are most exciting as there are so many of them. Considering to buy more similar equipment made by radial.andrey_panov
