1. Fender Pure Vintage '65 Jazzmaster Pickup Set

Reviews:
I've played a lot of different Strats over the years and while they all had "that Strat sound" to varying degrees, the Fat '50s achieve seem to be the most authentic. By adding a treble bleed and turning down the volume a bit, I can get those classic chimey tones from the 50s and with the volume all the way up, I can get the bigger sounds from the 60s. The cleans are sparkling, but they sound great running through higher gain amps as well. Compared to pickups like the Texas Specials, these are not harsh to my ears, even in the bridge position. If you're looking for the solid Start sound, you can't go wrong with these,BOCTOK
The Fender Mexican made 2017 Stratocaster is a nice guitar and as a standard out of the box guitar is good. One easy way to upgrade the sound is by installing the Fender Custom Shop Fat 50's pickup set. I measured the ones on a custom shop 59 before purchase to be sure of string alignment. I purchased a set and fitted them in about half an hour, fortunately my Mex ST had an Oak type 5 way and full size pots so no more upgrade work needed there. I did change the pot knobs and switch knob to white to match the new pickup covers. I installed a new set of strings, the pickups were test adjusted and sound great, a nice full sound, the front one is very rounded and clear, the middle is a classic sound and the back nice and strong. I was after a Shadows style of sound and these pickups did not disappoint. They give a clear sound and the right sound if you are looking for pure vintage tone.matt66red
I waited 5 months to write this review, I'll try to be unbiased. I replaced the stock ceramic pickups from a Fender Standard MIM. It's my first change of pickups ever, and the first time I play a guitar that sounds so classic, so I can not tell about the difference with a higher end model of Strat or a vintage one, but here goes my opinion: This pickups totally rock, well they don't only do rock, they play everything you want to hear from a instrument called "guitar", that means, 6 strings thru a wood body, they deliver the classic and just necessary electric guitar experience. No gimmicks, just the real thing, classic clean sound, lots of harmonics, dynamic sound, and driven sound wonderful, because they can be strong too, classic surf rock sound here. Took me a couple of days to adjust the proper height, the Alnico V magnets are strong so you have to be delicate to find the right spot for the three PUs, but once you are there, they are marvellous. The three pickups are pretty much the same, states the box, but the three positions are there, and the case with the medium pickup is a great surprise, it sounds very nice, very "middy" usable position, sounds as a custom medium pickup. By all means, you don't need no more that a old school Stratocaster guitar, as Leo designed, to be happy. Cheers. Rock on, blues on, jazz on, jangly on, surf''s up!Oscar the mendigo.
2. Railhammer Bob Balch Signature Humbucker Neck Pickup – Chrome
Product Details:
Designed in collaboration with bob balch, riffmeister with stoner rock/fuzz metal progenitors fu manchu. this humbucker is based on our chisel model, but features a brass cover and brass baseplate. the brass slightly reduces output and treble, while enhancing the overall midrange. the result is a thick tone with excellent clarity that cuts through even with heavy fuzz. and like all railhammers, they sound great clean too. neck version has reduced output for increased clarity and tone/volume balance with the bridge version. perfect for stoner rock, fuzz metal, post-sabbath, or for any player looking for a unique combination of clarity and warm midrange. chrome only, with laser etched signature. and like all railhammers, the extra clarity on the wound strings means they also work great with low tuned guitars.

I have been searching for years for a pick up like this! I primarily play Hard Rock and Metal. I have spent hundreds of dollars on Seymour Duncan, Dimarzio, and EMG pickups. I was always looking for the pickup that was so well rounded that it sang when I played my guitar. But, I could never find a pickup that gave me the clarity to hear every note on the low end and fatten up thin mids and treble. Well now I've found it. Railhammer pickups are 5 star plus in my book. Loud, clear sound, and tones through my amp. Clear sharp lows which are not muddy. Mids and Highs even and not thin. They actually sounf beefy. Artifical and natural harmonics ring out. NO feedback at all, and they are as quiet as my EMG 85/81 set. As a matter of fact for a set of passive pickups, they put my EMGs to shame! I have a Hypervintage (neck) and Chisel (bridge) setup. Really worth the money, you can't go wrong buying this pickup.Frank
I've had a number of Railhammer pickups in various guitars over the years, since they first hit the market: Gnarly90, Tel90, Alnico Grande, and Hypervintage and they have all been fantastic pickups. The Hypervintage is one of my favorites (put it in 2 guitars), because it has a great vintage PAF tone when rolled back and/or played clean, but really shines with a little overdrive. Very responsive to pick attack, super articulate, even with heavy overdrive and is one of the easiest pickups I've found to bring out nicely controlled pinch harmonics. I tend to favot single coils and feel that many humbuckers are too dark nd mushy, but these have a balanced brightness and clear tone. Definitely in the same class as Seymor Duncans and Bare Knuckles, for half the price!Ronbo
Not many humbuckers deliver clean bell-like mid-tones and high clean treble, but these are very different and deliver the goods! I was really surprised at how well they improved the sound of my SG (cheapo knock off) now the guitar is not just hanging on the wall in disappointment! Well worth the 'cheddar', as Jesse would put it…Ray
3. Gibson 498t Hot Alnico Bridge Pickup – Gold
Product Details:
Gibson pickups! it would be a big mistake to assume that all humbuckers sound alike. truth is, there are a number of gibson humbucking pickups available, and each one has its own distinctive personality. the "modern classic" series from gibson features tonal characteristics that are similar to the company's popular '57 classic, but with a slight increase in the upper midrange. it's 100% pure humbucker, but with a modern edge that delivers a more contemporary tonal range that's perfect for almost any style of music. start with a basic gibson humbucker, drop a slightly hotter alnico v magnet into a specially wound coil combination and you have the 498t "hot alnico" pickup. with a frequency response that favors the upper midrange and high end, coupled with a high output, this is the perfect rock guitar pickup. this one has a gold plated cover.

Reviews:
I bought this humbucker to replace a Seymour Duncan SH-5 Custom that was installed years ago on my Epiphone Korina Explorer (Korean, 90s model). I did this because the other mentioned is a pickup that scoops the mids; and I noticed that when playing in my band, I was constantly competing for the same sound frequencies as our bass player. So when I changed to this pickup (which does the opposite of scooping the mids, but instead boosts them) the guitar tone cuts through the mix muuuuch easier. This allowed me to even be able to reduce the volume of my guitar which was loud as hell before and hence sounded annoying even to me. In sum, this pickup is a warm, midrange sounding hot pickup that will allow you to actually be heard in the mix.
Sounds amazing. You've heard this pickup your entire life on countless tracks. The perfect hard rock, hot pickup. Mine measured 14.26 and I'm very happy with that. Similar in sound to the JB but slightly less midrange focus and a bit more treble. Very nice. The only issue and the reason it gets 4 starts for me is the crazy thin wiring which makes it extremely difficult to strip. Possibly 24 AWG or even thinner. Good luck with that as it will take multiple tries before you get a good clean strip. Still a great sounding pickup if you want the hard stuff!John
4. Emg 57/66 Bridge And Neck Humbucker Pickups Set, Gold
Product Details:
Emg 57/66 gold covered set with partial wiring harness. the pickups sound great, i just want to try something new. they do metal like every emg does, but these have the added benefit of being able to do classic rock, southern rock, and other things standard emgs can't do. the wiring harness included has 2 volumes, 1 tone, output jack, and 2 battery clips and batteries for 18-volt operation which increases output and (in my experience, might be hogwash) made them more responsive to my playing. it *does not* include the selector switch. hit me with any questions you have!

Reviews:
Manufacturer Support: Haven't had to deal with EMG for any kind of support. So I can't say anything Overall: Just got this set in. I put them in a LTD H-1001 that originally had the 81/85. Yes the 81/85 is a timeless combo bit these to me sound so much cleaner and clear. They respond amazingly. The cleans barely break up and not muddy at all. And when put through distortion it just gets better. Only thing I would do differently is ordered one of the EMG switches just to save some time on hooking it all up
I bought these because I like my EMG 81 & 85 set, and wanted to experience other models from EMG. I was impressed within the first few seconds! The 57 is richer and fuller than the EMG 81, while retaining the squealing harmonics that I desire. If you like active pups, you'll love these. If you don't, there's probably somethin' askew with your wiring. 🤣Weebly
I have tried many EMGs over the years and have never found any that I liked. To me, the tone always sounded sterile, lifeless, maybe even a bit processed…just didn't do it for me. After reading several reviews & watching numerous YouTube videos, I decided to take a chance on these. I'm glad I did! I had an LTD Deluxe EC-1000FR that I bought used and it had a pair of the Seymour Duncan Slash signature pickups in it when I got it. While those pickups sound great in a Gibson Les Paul, they were not well suited for this guitar. The LTD originally would have had EMG 81/60 in it, but I already knew I didn't like those. So having PAF-style pickups in all of my other guitars, I wanted a similar tone for this one but with the amount of gain similar to the Bareknuckle Nailbomb that I have in my Les Paul. I didn't really want to put a $360 set of Bareknuckle pickups in a guitar I only paid $500 for though so when I discovered these at almost half the cost, I thought I'd give them a try. They're perfect for this guitar! All the mids, fullness, and dynamics normally associated with PAF pickups but with plenty of gain to really get things cooking! They are quite versatile for most any kind of music, whether it be metal, hard rock, classic rock, or heavy blues, I feel any styleis possible. Finally, a set of EMGs I love! I have a new found sense of respect for EMG and will likely have more guitars with these pickups in the future! Well worth the chance and a great bargain considering the cost compared to others.dsloan5150
5. Lace Alumitone Deathbucker Pickup, Black

Reviews:
The Alumitone series has always had my curiosity. I play mainly metal, and i wanted something that would give my guitar a really sick tone and be all there. I knew i wanted a Dimebucker in the neck position.(kinda an experiment really) So i bought the Deathbucker for the bridge and i couldnt be happier. The guitar is an Epiphone goth v with a floyd rose. I really wanted to see how this pickup worked with a trem, and to be honest we all know how well a dimebucker goes with one. All and all my experiment was a success and this guitar is rocking now. Sweet crisp highs, and the lows are nice and chunky but not dirty at all. It doesnt matter too much what you do with this pickup it will meet your needs. work the cash!!!!!!
These pickups are awesome. I installed them in a chapman standard ML2. They look simply fantastic. This is a light guitar to begin with and these took off almost 2 more lbs, making this the lightest most comfortable guitar to play that I own. I installed them so that coils can be split, but I almost never do that, I just play them in full humbucker mode. Still, it's a nice option for more tonality. I did not replace the pots with 250k pots (guitar has 500k pots) and I think they still sound great. The literature that they come with says that they are optimized for 250k pots, I will probably try them like that eventually, but for now I'm really happy with how they sound. They are incredibly noise free, except for the noises that you want to make. They sound sick through all my amps, tube and solid state. They play friendly with all my effects pedals. Sound great clean or dirty. This is the second pair of Lace pickups that I have, and I think Lace is my new brand. I'm in the process of building a new guitar from scratch right now, and I'll bet that Lace pups will end up in that too.MCL
I was excited to receive these pickups. I was playing EMG 81/85s for 14 years but there was always a lack of warmth in those. I have since switched all my guitars to Duncan Blackouts which are amazing. I had one 9v battery start to leak in a guitar (thanks duracell!) so I wanted to try something that would supposedly be similar. Wired as recommended, brand new Bourns 250k tapping pots (250k pots recommended). Their wiring diagram on the site is a 50% wiring diagram and LACE references another 3rd party site for diagrams which show (coil tapping) wiring different from theirs. I had to re-write the recommended 3rd party diagram with theirs to get it to work properly (come on guys…..) These pickups are lacking that overdrive push/output level. I have been playing both side-by-side over the past few days through the same 3 amps and same exact Schecter Custom XXX guitars. They just don't have that compressed "UMPH" that the blackouts have. They have a more MEDIUM output sound when compared to the blackouts. I am returning them unfortunately… They would probably be good if you are coming from vintage humbuckers and want a little more balls but if you are looking for the "tightness" and "compression" of actives you won't get it…Toner
6. Dimarzio Modern Metal Gibson Les Paul Replacement Set (Gg2101a3bk) Black

7. Railhammer Alnico Grande Humbucker Pickup Gold Bridge
Product Details:
A modern vintage design with higher output and fatter tone then the hyper vintage and a smoother attack than the chisel or anvil, thanks to the alnico 5 magnet. its a great choice for heavy rock, old-school metal, and instrumental shred. old-school tone with a side order of extra grease.

9. Lace Bill Kelliher's Dissonant Aggressors Guitar Pickup Set Chrome
Product Details:
Hi, im selling a set of lace sensor dissonant agressor pickups. the pickups work flawless, i used them in a blacktop telecaster with split pots and they did a great job. these pickups have massive output and work great for heavy music and if you split them you have a really nice clear singlecoil sound, they are really versatile and react very well to the volume and tone pot. the condition is good they were installed in my blacktop telecaster and show normal signs of use, the lace sensor branding wore off but the signature logo is still present. they come with the original box and mounting screws.

Reviews:
I've gone through many pickups in the last 20+ years, I found myself with a BK-600 with thes3 in th3 guitar and loved them. While I sold that guitar ( I prefer Gibson Les Pauls) those pickups left a mark on me. I just decided that the Jazz / JB set wasn't doing it and tired of P.A.F sets that didn't give me enough output and sustain I ordered 2 sets of these and have been smiling since. These handle all the gain you can give them and stay extremely clear, the neck pickup is fluid and sounds very round, full and has great sustain. The bridge gives you all the palm mutes you could ask for as well as sounding great and clear with maximum gain or low crunch. Now, the unexpected tha5 people would guess is they sound superb clean, yes, there is no jangly, trebly, sound, no need to re-eq your amp because of a thin sound. Love these pickups. Great product.Ben
I own a lot of guitars and I have modified a bunch and even built several from scratch, so I have a lot of experience with many different pickups. I mostly use Seymour Duncans, but I've also experimented a lot with boutique brands like Railhammer and Lace. I just put Alumitones in a Stratocaster, and they are OK, and I bought the Brent Hinds Epiphone V, which features his Lace signature pickups and it's good, too. So next I bought these Dissonant Aggressors after many months of thinking about it, and boy am I pleased with them. I put them in a guitar similar in construction to the Kelliher signature guitar by ESP, in that it has a mahogany neck and body, and neck-through construction. I'm using 500k pots and a .047 orange cap. I put a set of 11s on it and dropped it to D. These pickups sound beautiful clean, especially on the lower strings, with a rich, bell-like ring to them. Distorted they have a nice tight bite that really lets you hear every note in a chord or in arpeggios… not surprising considering all the riffing Bill Kelliher does. They are not as harsh as the Brent Hinds pickups which have a lot of midrange to them. I like the Hinds sound, but these are more versatile and warmer. I've got Duncan Blackbacks in another guitar, which are really versatile, and an Alternative 8 bridge and Full Shred neck in another, and these Kelliher pups are just closer to the sound in my head, if you know what I mean. Clean or dirty, they sound great and there is also a healthy difference between the bridge and neck. I have a lot of tonal options between a couple of Strats, a Tele, an ES-335, and a Brian Setzer Gretsch, but for rock/metal these pickups have instantly become my favorites. I'm looking forward to laying some tracks with this guitar and the Hinds Flying V to see how close to Mastodon they'll sound together.original_hagakure
I installed a set of these pickups in a Carvin Ct3. Initially I had the guitar in standard tuning. I wasn't as much of a fan of the pickups in standard. They can be a little too bright (easily fixed with some eq adjusting on your amp) but they are always very clear. These are, I believe, based on the alumitone technology. Which if you have played other models, these have a similar tonal quality. Dropping the guitar to drop C was really where the pickups sounded their best to me. The pickups aren't supper hot output and this is a good thing. The bridge does have a mid range spike in it. As a result it sounds aggressive but it doesn't hit the front end of your amp too hard. The neck pickup is a little warmer, but still maintains a very high level of clarity . Both pickups are very usable. They really let your amp's tone and settings work without being in the way too much. Again most of these characteristics could be said about the other alumitone pickups as well. Overall I really like the pickups, especially for lower tunings. If clarity is an issue and you want something that is in fact aggressive but still very usable in other applications these are worth looking in to.jarledge7

Reviews:
I now have a new favorite guitar pickup. The people at Lace have come up with a winner. I have used most of the usual suspects pickups in my guitars, but nothing comes close to the sensitivity, clarity and tone of the Nitro Hemis. Tone wise, they have the muscle of a classic humbucker, but with more output and growl when you need it. Great mid range as well. They are also brighter than any HB I have ever usedalmost a chimey top end. The sound great clean, and when overdriven.
I put these in my Les Pual Standord and they were in for about two minutes. The neck sounded great just as avertized. The bridge did not sound good at all. When I used both together even worse. For me the pair is just to far apart in sound quility. I would go with the neck pickup without a doudt. The bridge is a little muddy(too much low end for me), very hot, and out of control punchy. Both pickups are pretty responsive.NY_Rocker
Only thing I wish is that they wouldnt scratch up…the chrome is so nice right out of the package! but its inevitable and they are no worse than any other brand under normal wear and tear conditions. The tone on these is solid and tight and fuull of life…its like a super passive tone…organic and lively…with no boominess or flubbing. I think these would sound great on many different woods…but on my tele they sound amazing. I just picked one of these up because I already liked the regular Lace Hemi…and I can't resist products witht he word NITRO in from of them…so had to try it. This is one beefy monster! The Chrome caps are really nice quality and they look great on my Fender 2 hum tele. Top quality. nice long cables. good shiny finish. Solid Valued for sure. price point is comparable to other brands.
11. Dimarzio Dp707 Liquifire 7 Pickup – Black
Product Details:
One thing has stayed consistent throughout john petrucci’s long and successful career: the dimarzio pickups in his guitars. john has been pushing the envelope of progressive metal since the late eighties, and the dimarzio liquifire 7 neck model resulted from our most recent collaboration with john. he used it throughout dream theater’s tenth studio album, “black clouds & silver linings”. john swears this is the best live and studio sound he has ever had. he wanted a neck pickup with a flowing, singing solo tone when used with a heavily overdriven amp and a clear chord sound with a clean amp setting. as dp227b but for 7 string guitar with more focussed attack. the voicing is shifted down about 500hz to bring out the sound of the seventh string.

12. Emg Metal Works Jh James Hetfield Humbucker Signature Set Gold
Product Details:
The neck pickup uses individual poles and bobbins with an enlarged core that gives it a more percussive attack, higher output and a fuller low-end response making it clean and fat with a fast attack. the bridge pickup uses the same larger/taller core coil but has steel pole pieces, again for a tighter more percussive attack with less mutual inductance for a cleaner low-end. based of the emg 81 but brought to a whole new level. both pickups feature an gold plated finish over stainless steel. the set comes complete with emg’s revolutionary solderless installation wiring components.
Reviews:
I have had my shecter omen 6 for over 2 years now and although the pickups where fine i've always fwncied a change and so finally decided these EMGs where for me. The kit comes with the full solderless wiring set needed to install into your guitar, and it honestly couldn't be easier! All the leads are small enough to fit through the pre drilled holes in my guitar, even though my guitar came installed with passive pick ups. The hardest part i had about the set was i had to slightly squeeze the output jack spade to make it get through the gap but other than that it was faultless. Battery even fits in the control unit area so no need to route out any holes for a the battery! (Bonus!) As for the pickups the neck is truely fantastic cannot get enough of the tone from it, i can't say i'm a massive fan of the bridge pickup so may eventually swap that out, but it's still early days so i may come round to liking it. Of you are in the market for pickups as a first upgrade, i would highly recommend these however 10/10 for packaging, ease of install, and a solid 9/10 for the pickups themselves.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
I love these pickups. I bought the brand new 2019 Schecter Red Reign Apocalypse HT and the pickups in it we super mid and high focused but literally had zero bottom end so they were to thin for my liking. After doing a bunch of research thinking I didn't want the typical active pickup because they sound too compressed I found these. After so many demos and and also reading I saw how these were more of a hybrid sound passive yet active. And wow the sound was amazing more then I could ask for even comparing them to my Seymour Duncan invaders, my emg 81/85 combo or 81/60 and my PRS 81 something s's they have the perfect harmony very well balanced. They are high high output so even little gain was impressive and saturated. The only issue was the guitar has a small cavity for electronics so I really had to tweak the emg system to fit like a puzzle. So something like an S series Ibanez may have some real issues with cavity space. But regardless amazing pickups.RobfromVB
Great, high gain pick-up. The neck is bluesy, warm and cozy. The bridge is aggressive and thick. However, because it has passive properties, it's noisier than one is used in an active pick-up. Get a noise gate, if you don't already have one, you'll be golden! Also, the installation was so easy and almost completely solderless. Only the connection to the toggle/selector switch requires soldering. I made my installation 100% solderless by also getting an EMG toggle switch kit.Christopher E.

15. Gibson Custom Custombucker Humbucker Pickup Zebra
Product Details:
The epitome of paf goodness. these pickups are loaded with alnico 3 magnets — the lowest output of all the commonly used alnico magnets — which are then hand-wound with a slightly denser winding to provide enhanced output. any paf aficionado steeped in the history of gibson’s most popular pickup design might point out that this is not the standard setup for a paf — and they would be correct! paf windings and materials varied dramatically throughout the years, resulting in hordes of different “paf” pickups with wildly different constructions. that being said, custombuckers capture the true soul of the paf, excelling in what sweetwater’s vintage gibson fanatics find to be its defining characteristics: unmatched articulation, an open and airy quality, plenty of body, and an incredibly dynamic feel. if you’re after an uncompromisingly vintage-style humbucker tone, these are as close as you can get to late-'50s paf without paying exorbitant vintage prices! exceptionally authentic replication of a late ‘50s paf humbucker. low-output alnico 3 magnet design boosts articulation and clarity. hand-wound wire is wrapped slightly denser than a typical vintage humbucker, compensating for the alnico 3’s low output and providing a classic paf bite. unpotted design that’s true to the original paf.
