Installed on a solid body electric resonator build replacing the Fishman "donut" and the difference is night and day .The Fishman was thin and small sounding with low output while the K&K after a quick 45 min install sounds full with strong output level , plenty of resonator character and a LOT less of the piezo fizz experienced with other pickups. Bought this for my 1st resonator – a biscuit style cone – upgrades the cone and installed to the underside of the bridge – instructions are sparse but a quick call to a Fishman tech and it was a easy install – I did need a longer mounting screw than was supplied with the kit but had one lying around – I did not need a preamp on this pickup – plenty of drive for a pa or my amp – a Fender Blues Deluxe Re-issue – pretty feedback proof also – I highly recommend this pickup

I wanted a pickup for my resonator guitar, but was skeptical at how well a magnetic pickup would catch the tones from the instrument. I was pleasantly surprised when I mounted mine, plugged it in and played. I play the resonator with a slide, and the metalic sound these guitars are known for came through loud and clear. Sometimes, I travel without an instrument to remote gigs. At one venue, there is a resident square-neck reso guitar–without a pickup. Using the Lace Reso Sensor, I can quickly–in less than 5 minutes–attach it to the instrument and plug into the house PA. Here are the caveats: 1) You should play through a pre-amp/DI. The Lace is a passive pickup that honestly requires a pre-amp. I use either an LR Baggs Para Acoustic DI or a Radial Tonebone PZ-Pre DI. 2) You probably need to use a spacer to adjust the pickup's proximity to the strings. I found that the best distance to provide clearance (to avoid strings depressed by your steel contacting the pickup) and the pickup being close enough to give you some gain is 1/8"-1/4" (depending on how heavy-handed you be). It's not going to be as loud as yer buddy's Strat, so don't expect to be the big dawg on stage. Remember, it's an acoustic instrument. Enjoy.Spooty

Lots of hum regardless of volume. Output of the sensor was minimal. I had to employ a preamp/booster cranked up to get a good signal. I contacted Lace via email but haven't heard back. (Curiously they list email addresses on their site but indicate that they tend to be non-responsive.) I installed this on a Wechter wood resonator. Main goal was to use the lace sensor in combination with a mike for recording. The sensor couldn't be used. Lots of hum regardless of volume. Output of the sensor was minimal. I had to employ a preamp/booster cranked up to get a good signal. The sensor installs wtih double sided tape. It could be removed without damage to the wood. The jack for the sensor is good-sized. You want to take care not to have it rub against the guitar's finish. The item didn't come with any installation or usage instructions. Nothing on the Lace website other than dimensions. I have a Dobro Hound Dog Deluxe roundneck that I tune to open E and play with a bottleneck slide. The pickup that came with it (a cheaper Fishman) was a nightmare to amplify. You really had to crank the volume to get anything out of it, and you had to dial the trebs down to 1 to keep audience members' ears from bleeding. Plus, it sounded tinny and metallic like a really bad, National Steel copy or a trashcan with strings. This little beauty isn't cheap, but worth every penny and then some. I'd pay twice the price. I first, changed out the cone for a Quarterman, had a put on a bone nut, and then my luthier installed the Fishman Nashville. Oh man, what a difference! Now, I plug it in (through an ART preamp to boost the volume a bit) with a flat EQ, and I get a sweet, fat, rich, woody tone. It really cries the way a Dobro should. I can now focus on playing my best without worrying about unwanted overtones or piercing, tinny highs. A former bandmate heard it and was knocked out by the difference. "Man, what did you do to your Dobro?" I have yet to record with it, but I expect it would work well for that too. If you play a spider-style resonator, this pickup is a must. I would take it to a pro for installation, though, and although it's hotter than the pickup that came with the guitar, it's still passive and may need a little boost from a preamp. I plan on getting another one of these for my Regal squareneck as soon as I have the bread. I may not play like Jerry, but at least I can approximate that tone!JT
Instant gratification and wows through my Fishman SA 220 SoloAmp i.e True acoustic reso sound on steroids with no feedback at extreme volumes I would never never consider playing at. Then I plugged it into my pedal box and '64' Princeton at rehearsal with the band. This is the first time I was able express what I heard in my head with the full ensemble of drums, harmonica, bass, and keyboard. Again, NO FEEDBACK with a true reso sound. On my Martin HD-28 I had a Fishman Piezo. It sounded like a Strat. Well, maybe not that bad, but not a good acoustic reproduction of the sound. I replaced it with the LR Baggs and Wow! The amplified acoustic sound is great. Great acoustic sound reproduction. Nice also if you do any percussion on the guitar as the Baggs picks this up fine. Other than the percussion part though, its tough to say if this is any better than the Fishman Rare Earth.

For live performances, producing a strong high quality sound with this pick up is really easy. It is passive so for best results some sort of pre amp helps out a lot. Hate to list as a con (because it really isn't for me) but do not expect it to be 100 percent noiseless unless you install the jack into the instrument and wire it to be grounded. I did not want to alter my resonator physically in any way so I did not install the jack, just taped it to the bottom of the guitar. I have a high end custom built guitar but mic ing it for live performances is impractical in most situations I perform in due to feed back associate with trying to get enough volume. Feed back is not an issue with this pickup.Bubba
It worked great right out of the box. I will be installing it permanently on my Honey Dipper resonator. Sounds great through a vintage Fender amp. It imparts some of the tone of the guitar and some of it's own magnetic pick up sound and ends up with a pretty nice blend. Does not feed back easily. I put one of these in my Martin LX-1. Its a little quiet, without a preamp, but added to my Fishman EQ Pro Platinum that tiny guitar sounds huge! I've had sound guys say "oh, that little guitar is going to be a challenge", but once they hear it, they're blown away. I am using this pickup and the Schatten preamp on my biscuit cone round neck and could not be happier with it. I’ve been playing resonator guitars for 25 years and have tried all kinds of pickups, and I give this one a huge thumbs up. The sound is full, true, and very nicely balanced. The high end is not excessively hot, so you can slash on the treble strings without the overly loud harsh tones that many high end resonator pickups produce. The plastic casing on the preamp does not bother me one bit since it is the tone I am after, and I appreciate the affordability. The company which makes this product has decided a good way to cut costs is to have the customer do the assembly work . . . this a collection of parts, not a working device. So – a little effort, a bit of education, the satisfaction of an unexpected accomplishment? Hardly. The directions that come along with this are so arcane, byzantine, confused, contradictory, and – I could go on, I am a retired English Professor. If someone requested me to offer an example of useless language, I couldn't come up with anything this bad – like someone slipped magic mushrooms in my coffee and handed the instructions to me . . . unintelligible. K&k sound pure mini + pre-phase the pre-phase preamp is a miniature, onboard preamp that provides volume control and a phase switch for pure pickups. it provides truly astonishing sound quality in an extremely small and light-weight package! the addition of the phase switch is one of the most important tools for live sound amplification of any acoustic instrument. your unplugged acoustic guitar resonates in a given phase. the amplified sound needs to match this phase! out of phase sound feeds back, has phase cancellations on some notes, and sounds quacky and tinny overall. phase problems cannot be sufficiantly solveld with eq. any amp/pa/effect-unit/preamp may or may not flip the phase, the only way to be sure that your guitar is in phase with the amp-sound is a phase switch in your signal chain! in our opinion a phase switch is the #1 control for any amplified acoustic instrument. the volume control wheel allows for convenient adjustment during performance. with the pre-phase you are able to plug your acoustic guitar into any amp or pa directly. simply use the eq on the amp or mixer channel to adjust your tone. battery life is about 150 hours with alkaline battery. you can order the pre-phase as an integrated element with any single-source passive pickup, or as an add-on for an existing pickup. simply unscrew the existing endpin jack, remove it from the endpin hole, and plug it into the 1/4" plug of the pre-phase add-on. the 1/4" plug has a self-adhesive fastener, which can be secured inside the guitar. the lightweight thumbwheel control mounts with a peel-and-stick installation to the inner edge of the soundshole. mount the new endpin jack into the endpin hole, and you're done!

As a professional luthier/guitar technician, I have installed several of these amazing transducers, and am continually astounded by their performance, which has a natural warmth and tonal range heretofore unheard in this type of unit. I highly recommend this pickup for ALL acoustic guitars which can accommodate one. It isn't the easiest to install, and will most likely require the help of a tech like myself; but the results are BEYOND EXCELLENT; take my word for it. Additionally, this passive pickup does not require a battery-powered on-board preamp, though it works with outside preamps, EQs and direct boxes equally well (it doesn't need them for sufficient volume). Just don't bother with the others. These are awesome. I go through either a Helix using the mic preamp, or K&Ks DI box. I've fitted four of these myself (on two Larrivees, a Guo and an Atkin OM37) . They trounce the competition. You will _never_ get the sound of a Neumann KM84 professionally positioned and EQd so don't bother trying and don't stuff your guitar with half a ton of hardware because it _will_ kill the tone. Be aware and be careful when installing the pickups.It is easy to get them to close to the bridge pins.My 6th string head or ball just barely clears the base side pickup. I think I was lucky. The sound of this K&K pickup is excellent. Very balanced and clear.I would give the finger picking or single note flat picking sound 5 stars. Struming sound 4 1/2 stars. Just a nice accurate sound. Works well with the line setting on my QSC K8.2 speaker. It also works very well with the instrument setting. There is just more volume on the instrument setting. I have an Ovation legend that came with a poor quality saddle pickup that was cutting out on me so i went cheap and got a Seymour Duncan woody humbucker that has a terrible ac buzz, so I decided to try the M1A. Installation was a snap and bang I was back in business. This thing sounds great with my radial pz delux preamp. It is very bright but also has a rich low end. I had to dial back the high mids a bit but it eq's really well. It is also very active and brings out some of the imperfections of my instrument i had not previously noticed due to the extreme clarity this pickup brings to the table. I also play a bit of percussion on the body of my guitar and this unit picks up the finger tapping on the sound board well (the Seymour Duncan did not). For the price this is a great pickup. My only real disappointment is that I cannot use my sans amp distortion anymore because the M1A is so active it squeals wildly with feedback when overdriven. Oh and I had to put a little piece of clear tape on the volume knob so I would stop bumping it down when playing aggressively.Rarefaction

It sounds great and offers a new sound palette that has expanded both my recording and musical horizons. I'm using a Martin 000-18 and the pickup is running through a Great River Me1nv into an Apogee Duet interface. I tried plugging directly into the Duet, but the Great River had a more appealing sound and needed less gain than the Duet. The only flaw that I can find in the Baggs M1 is the temporary installation method which requires that the external cord cannot be removed without removing the entire pickup. I chose the temporary installation because I didn't want to drill holes into an expensive guitar. I assumed that while the pickup would stay in the sound hole, the jack/plug assembly would be accessible and that the cord could be removed. It turns out that I was wrong. You can't just unplug the chord. This means that every time you put the guitar back in it's case, you also have to pack ten feet of cord. It's not a huge issue, but you would think that the pickup would be designed with this in mind.d willis

I received a Fleor M00074-4 wrapped in tin foil with 2 screws and 2 springs. If you do a search for this brand, you'll see nothing but good reviews. I replaced the original single humbucker in my Peavey Rockmaster with the Fleor. The Fleor is quieter than the original (silence—no hum at all!). Plus, all the poles are adjustable. Sounds really good and just as loud! I suspect Fleor probably makes pickups for the other major brands. At this price, it is worth experimenting. They say you could a lot of money for a bad sounding pickup, so I recommend you start with this one.inyotree

Very good pick-up and easy to fit without chopping up my old guitar. One slight issue: the poles are spaced slightly too far apart for my Gibson J50. Optimum sound hole size info is provided in the blurb but not string spacing. I can get some overlap on 1st and 6th strings by turning the pickup so it does the job. Since this is a passive pick up it does require a substantial increase in volume from your amp or input. I run it through a red eye twin DI which helps greatly and can adjust the gain. I combined this pick up with a K&K and gives an incredible sound. The pole pieces do need to be adjusted and tailored to your liking. The B and e pieces need to be dropped down significantly. For me I needed to increase the base E, A and D to give a fuller sound. When I compare the K&K to this pick up their pretty close. The K&K has a better definition and clarity but they are close and for some reason when I put them together through the red eye twin di they sound magical together. You really need to adjust the K&K input down and crank up the black angle since it's allot lower input. 50/50 mix of the two sound great.G

Just after Christmas 2012 I had this installed in my Epiphone EJ200. I usually obsess over things like this for a while, reading review after review of the choices and looking at vids on YouTube. Finally I pulled the trigger on this one, and I must say it's pretty darn impressive. It gives a really really close to true acoustic sound, but where it totally shines is when you throw in a bit of chorus or some other effect. Five minutes ago I was playing along with some bluesy backing tracks through a Vox AD30VT modeling amp. I dialed in a nice jazzy tone, added some delay and I am VERY happy with the sound. I had expected the original batteries to have fizzled by now, but 11 months and hundreds of hours later, they are still good. I do need to mention that they had the price for the passive pickup on the stack of these active ones, which we discovered after it was in my guitar, so I got the deal of the year! Pay the extra, it will be worth it spread out over the years.warren foil
I have had an Epiphone EJ200 for a few years now, great guitar, great sound BUT the Shadow e-sonic pickups were not. The under-saddle became very noisy and finally gave up. Been looking for a pick up to amplify my Gibson J45. Love the natural sound of that guitar and wanted something that would stay true to the acoustic tone. Tried the rare earth HB after reading the other reviews and was not disappointed. Absolutely great pu. Keeps as true to the natural sound as anything I've heard. I actually like this better than the factory expression system in my Taylor and I thought that was really good until I heard the Fishman. It's dead quiet too. No hum or feedback due to the humbucking features. You get volume control only with this but I prefer to use the amp to control everything else anyway, so no down side for me as is. I knew the minute I heard this, it was going to stay with the Gibson for good, so I permanently mounted it. Very easy to do if you're handy with tools but not for the faint of heart. You will need to drill out the end pin hole on your guitar to accommodate the end jack and will also need to shorten the lead that's supplied and do some soldering. Take it to a professional if any of this makes you nervous. Was so thrilled, I bought a second one within a week for another acoustic I have and permanently mounted that one too. Just be sure to leave enough lead wire slack to allow you to take the pu out of the hole for battery changes. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to amplify a straight acoustic and wants to stay as true to its original tone as possible.

Greetings Reader, I purchased these pickups to complete my "Project-Tele" in Dec 2012. I wanted a vintage Tele sound on this particular guitar which has a Fender "PAT. PEND." 3-brass saddle bridge to help achieve a vintage tone. The nice price and the great reputation of Seymour Duncan helped me to decide to select these pickups. I am not disappointed with the nice balanced, warm but with detail, "true-fidelity" sound I hear with these pickups. In addition I selected the best, industry-standard electronic parts: CRL 3-way selector switch, Switchcraft output jack, CTS 250k audiotaper volume and tone pots, and Sprague "orange drop" tone caps. I have a very unique "Project-Tele" since it has a Warmoth STRAT all-maple neck with 22-medium jumbo frets with a "flattish" 10-12 inch fretboard radius. Put this set in a 2011 American Special Tele, huge improvement in tone. Stock Texas Specials sounded good but not vintage tone at all. These pickups sound great as good as many boutique pickups out there for half the price. Neck pickup is a little on the warm side but that is how a vintage Tele neck is, bridge is spot on for twang and grit. The only down side is that the neck is not rwrp for hum cancelling in center position. These are a great upgrade to stock modern pickups.bluesboy38

Fully functional and in excellent condition. removed from a gretsch gin rickey model guitar. guitar unfortunately suffered a severe neck break so i salvaged the pickup. pickup simply mounts across sound hole. (5 1/2 inches across). the cord and input can either be installed internally or externally. you d have to drill a hole to fit the input internally if there isn t an exhausting hole. then it just screws down with a hex nut and washer and the strap button screws in as well. cord measures approximately 20 and 1/4 inches long from base of pickup to end.

I really can't find any cons. This little device is just so easy to set up and install. Plug it into either an acoustic amp or into an electric guitar amp., the results are unbelievably good. I'm running it through a Boss GT1 Effects Processor and into a Fender Mustang amp and it is just superb. It sounds pretty good but the output is a little weak for me. No volume/output power control. I also recently bought the De'Armond sound hole pup. I think I like that better—but this is still pretty good. The output was a little weak to drive an old Peavey 20 amp—but the body of the guitar is also smaller than the other guitar that I put the DeArmond pup on. The Gretsch name kind of beckoned to me knowing how wonderful the big jazz box Gretsch guitars sound. I didn't quite live up to what I expected—but again I installed it on a smallish guitar and it still sound pretty darned good. It should have a volume/output control.rbro1081

i installed this in a mini orangewood guitar and apparently i had the wrong super glue because i was a sticky mess to install… BUT i played it the next wednesday and i was BLOWN AWAY by the sound. the natural bassiness and fullness really made the mini acoustic sound like a big full sized guitar!! but also has clarity and a natural sound. i love it and the volume knob is so convenient. it says you dont need a preamp just have to push the gain on your sound board a little more than others. overall SUPER happy with the product! just make sure you get the right GEL super glue. ALSO all the instructions i found and research i did said the end pin hole needed to be drilled out 1/2 inch size but it is smaller than that idk the exact but would be nice if it was more snug.maxd12390
Installed in my all solid wood Martin dreadnaught guitar. Just follow the directions. This pickup sounds great through my sound system and the best part is no batteries to go dead in the middle of a song. Despite seeing the one-star review on this item, I decided to try it. Big mistake. When plugging in the cord to power up the pickup, the light would come on when the cord was half-way in and then turn back off when the cord was fully in. So I returned it for another one, figuring I couldn't get two that were faulty, right? Wrong. Big mistake. The second unit did the exact same thing. Basically, this thing is junk in a box. I've had my Taylor 614CE Grand Auditorium with the Taylor Expression pickup in it for almost 14 years now and never was pleased with the EQ options with the pickup. Solo/acoustic, it was fine because it had a nice "warmth" about it and made my sound more "full," but performing with my band and/or other musicians, it would "muddy" up the sound and would never "cut through" like I wanted it to. I tried various pedals and other EQ'ing options, but nothing every worked to get the sound like I wanted it to. Another problem I had was it had ZERO percussive capabilities for my looping shows. A fellow musician recommended the Fishman Matrix Infinity, and after weeks of researching various pickups, I decided to go with it and can't be more happier! I can get a "kick drum" sound out of my acoustic now, if needed, and the blending option allows me to get various effects/sounds I never had an option to get out of my old system. I would HIGHLY recommend this pickup for any guitar!
