Reviews:
I'm kind of on the fence with this pedal. I don't care about how it sounds in comparison to the real thing, but am more interested in how it performs as a fuzz pedal in general. The Fuzz Face setting is pretty decent. I couldn't stand the Maestro, but I suppose that there are those out there that like that model. The Octavia added a cool octave effect to the fuzz, but it seemed to cause a lot of hum, and it created octaves of hum as well, which was pretty horrid sounding. If I keep this pedal, I will only use it on the Fuzz Face setting, but I'm kind of preferring the fuzz tones that I'm getting out of my Pro Co Rat 2.CoopDbomb
I like this pedal although I need to experiment more with the orientation on my board. It does have 3 of the most sought after fuzz sounds and the Octave one comes close to that vintage Zep sound. I think the pedal is great but I have experienced less than desirable effects with it depending on the settings and adjustments but I also need to experiment with orientation on the board so jury is out on that. But I will say when I keep things at high noon and do little tweaks I get a better sound out of it.. I still like the pedal compared to others out there.Azuljay
I have a Boss ME-80, which has some of the most interesting sounds, but the Fuzz mode was a little lacking. Enter the Boss FZ-5! The three modes are just what I wanted, I'm playing it more than my ME-80 or my EH Big Muff Pi (which is a wonderful pedal in it's own right!) Dustin, my Sales guy, did an outstanding job getting this pedal to me, I'm very happy with the level of customer service provided by Sweetwater.

Reviews:
Overall: I have become an even bigger fan of Slash since his work with Myles Kennedy. I feel like he is one of the most melodic rock leads out there at the moment (just my opinion).I was really surprised by how much I actually like this pedal. It is really easy to get some awesome sounding riffs with this pedal, the tone is beautiful on this with the octaves. The build quality is superb as expected from MXR. I have bought a few new MXR pedals in the last few months and I have yet to find any complaint about them. Looking forward to a long relationship with this pedal!Matthew
I got this pedal because I’m a slash fan, this pedal is great at getting close to the lead tones for solos on paradise city. It is also just a great octa fuzz to cover all needs. I’ve been trying different placements on my board both before and after the wah. It’s a fun pedal to experiment with.Liam
I heard the demos online and liked the tones. I tried it at the store, played around for about 5 minutes, liked it and bought it. At home, i plugged it in and fell in love. I have a POG pedal which I love. I run one of my distortion/od/fuzz pedals into it and love the sounds. I thought the slash fuzz would be similar, but it has a totally unique sound. By playing with the fuzz, tone, octave up and octave down knobs, you can really get some cool, fun tones. I write original music, so was instantly inspired to write some cool riffs. Leads sound great too. It's got some interesting characteristics. For example, when you turn down the volume on your guitar, it doesn't seem to trigger the octaves as much. But, when you turn it up and bang on it, it gets fat. I love that about it. It's like it has personality and is moody. The pog + od has a metallic, chimy sound at lower volumes. This one doesn't. You can strum a chord lightly and it will sound somewhat clean. Then you hit it hard and it summons octave goodness. I also experimented with turning the "Sub octave into fuzz" off and hitting one of my dist/od/fuzz pedals. Even more tone options. The "Up" button is cool cause you turn on/off the upper octave. This is killer for some sonic variation within a song or to switch to a solo. I'll definitely be adding this sound to my stuff.

5. Fulltone Sb-2 Soul-Bender Fuzz Pedal

Reviews:
i own a newer version of this pedal from fulltone, and several Fuzz pedal through the years, a total tone freak! I compared them side by side on a true bypass switcher. The older version is certainly fuller and the tone control responds better to my American Deluxe strat, although there is fine hissing at the background whicn can be taken cared by an MXR noise suppressor (it's a fuzz!!!) Tonebender from Colorsound cuts off sustain quite earlier compared to both Fulltone versions. IMHO, the older version of Fulltone soul bender is probably the best sounding dirt box there is under $400.oo, bar none!!! Hope this will be helpful for tone monsters who are planning to plug one on their pedal board. For the One True Rock!!!jyverde2012
This is a top quality pedal when it comes to parts, solidity, and cosmetic appearance. I purchased it for the ability to give me over the top overdrive/distortion sounds. It does that, but I wasn't satisfied with the results. Although the boost section adds a good, gritty push to my Marshall JCM 800, the overdrive side always sounded papery especially in the lower registers. Even with a full EQ section to tweak, I could never get the gritty, fat overdrive I hear in my head.smits_parts
Boutique fuzz with a boutique price. Way Huge Fat Sandwich is anotch below. This gives you some very realistic old grind short of an original Octavia or Sola Sound when you use the clean channel on an amp. It is much more musical when you do not use it with other pre-gain stuff like ODs and Gain stages of modern amps. Of course, you never use these things with your volume knob on 10, and the tone on your guitar will also be an important adjustment to make any of these pedals sound righttravisbickle
6. Mxr M225 Sub Machine Fuzz Pedal
Product Details:
The mxr sub machine fuzz kicks open the door to epic and unbridled sonic exploration. this mean little box combines the shaggy vintage tones of the la machine fuzz with a growling sub octave circuit, giving you a one way ticket to the sonic frontiers of heavy. the sub machine fuzz features the la machine fuzz s circuitry and all of its functions from its volume, tone, and fuzz controls to its electrifying octave up mode. but it s also got an old school sub octave circuit with its own level control, so you can dial in just the right mix of fuzz and sub octave signals. to further broaden the sub machine fuzz s thunderous tonal palette, the mxr team added a series switch so you can run the sub octave signal straight into the fuzz for some seriously subterranean saturation or alongside the fuzz for a split channel effect.
Specifications:
Color | Multicolor |
Number of Knobs | 4 |
Reviews:
The Sub Machine Octave Fuzz has a tight, modern sound to my ears, while also being able to spew aural filth akin to Stooges guitar. The powerful bass may be too clean for some ears – I find the overall vibe a little sterile – but there's a lot of fun here, with huge potential for exploration and use. Seems to be very well made – weighs quite a bit.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
This pedal is great. If you think you want it, you want it. And I would recommend it. This can be used as a nice OD, Dist or Fuzz before you dial in the Octave at all. With the Fuzz and Tone down you can almost use it as plain Octave (with just a bit of crunch). But obviously, the idea is you dial in your desired amounts of Fuzz and Octave and create something special. The Tone knob is very variable, which makes for a great range of tones and intensities. The option of the up octave adds another range of sweet tones, especially for those leads. Finally, my favorite spice in the Sub Machine recipe, the parallel/sequence switch is a great touch that allows you to dial in a sweet, dual-effect tone and then gamble on how it sounds in sequence, where a whos-who of odd crunchy, glitchy and some downright sweet sounds live. All around a sweet pedal if you want Octave Fuzz and a pedal that can give you very cool sounds.Lucas

I have a Voodoo Lab Proctavia on one of my boards and wanted a second octave fuzz for my main board, but I didn't want to spend a lot of money. The MXR Octavio is FANTASTIC. I was shocked at how good it is, actually. The octave tracking is great and the fuzz is smooth. I highly recommend this pedal. Plus, no center positive power weirdness like most octave fuzzes and it's in a small (normal) enclosure!
Great sounding pedal, very different than other fuzzes but a lot of fun. Arrived in perfect condition.rodn-macm

This pedal sounds great for what it is, a great octave fuzz. If your in the market for an octave fuzz, this is the pedal. However, it isn't a "stay on all the time" pedal. This reviewer doesn't find the chord sounds pleasing to the ear, but the single note runs are unmatched. Pair with a good tube amp and a single coil neck pup, your in heavenmclovin

Reviews:
I have played A LOT of fuzz pedals in my days. Some expensive legends and cheaper bang for your bucks. And I got this with the intention of modding it up but after getting it and plugging it into an Orange CR120 with a marshall cab, my jaw dropped. It's so much more vocal and raw than any germanium fuzz face or big muff I've ever played. And it cleans up I to an almost overdrive like clean sound. You need this in your life. Shut up and but it right now! WHAT ARE YOU WAITING FOR?!
I have been using Fuzz Face distortion pedals since 1983 when I obtained a 1973 Dallas-Arbiter produced model. Over the years I have owned dozens; the prized red ones having the germanium PNP transistors that were common before 1970 and the post 1970 blue ones with silicone transistors which were more stable than the previous models but tones are pronouncedly sharper and harsh. So…how does the Jim Dunlop Fuzz Face match up to my "Dallie-Arbs"? The Fuzz Face I purchased is what I expected. Nice fuzz and the ability to get loud when pushed. Works well with other pedals especially wah, octave, delay and chorus. If you are going for the tone Hendrix, Page, Trower and others achieved Fuzz Faces are a good start.solmcq_0
This is the best fuzz/overdrive pedal that I have ever used in my life, and I have owned and tried many of them. I have never had a fuzz pedal that the solos have such clarity. When chording, you can hear each individual note of each string ringing with lots of harmonic overtones, it is not muddy or harsh sounding, very smooth fuzz with clarity. I don't have to search for a sweet spot, I turn the Fuzz all the way to 10, and use my guitar volume roll up or down to achieve more fuzz or cleaner fuzz. Great pedal for rock and roll, and sounds just like Hendrix if you want that. It will make all your rock and blues licks sound heavy and pure bliss. Get one today!. .bluesagent2

Reviews:
Waited months for this to arrive and it was definitely worth the wait. I also have an Op Amp Big Muff and another budget fuzz pedal. I definitely prefer the sound of the Behringer. Setting the switch in between Fuzz 1 and Fuzz 2 gives you both settings in parallel and it sounds AMAZING. I have a few Behringer pedals. Some are good, some are not so good. This is definitely one of the good ones.
This pedal may be cheap, but it is one of the most flexible pedals ive seen. Fuzz 1 and Fuzz 2 are an octave style fuzz, Fuzz 1 being very dark and warm, whereas Fuzz 2 is shrill and cold, great for Electric Wizard style riffing. It doesnt have noise in ANY of the modes, even with the gain maxed, and it sounds completely identical to the Boss FZ-2 Hyperfuzz. Though i believe the best thing about this pedal is the boost mode. I personally use it with the bass dimed to 11, and it sounds amazing into the front of my valve amp, pushing the tubes exactly the way i want it. The ONLY downside is the fact that it is made out of plastic, which is why i didnt value the quality at 5 stars. For the price, this pedal is a must have. Just don't go stomping on it like your other metal-made pedals, and it will last you a long time.Samuel M.
Cons: The casing is plastic,so I'm not sure how gig-survivable it would be over time. Whoever came up with the procedure for changing the battery would make the Marquis de Sade weep with jealousy. Pros: It does a -perfect- facsimile of the crushing DOOM TONE Electric Wizard have on the 'Dopethrone' album; put a 7-string through this and watch your garden die. It does a bunch of other seriously fun fuzz sounds and is actually quite versatile, given the 3 modes it has, the range of the tone knobs and the sheer amount of fuzz available. While the casing feels cheap, the knobs are nice and solid. It's ridiculously cheap given how good the actual sound it produces is. Why are you still reading this…? BUY ONE!varghellhammer

This is my favorite fuzz pedal. I have a handful too. I have owned several tone bender type pedals and this is by far the best. Its way more versatile than a straight TB clone because of the addition of the tone knob. The tone is fairly bright. Never shrill though. You can dial in a more bass heavy sound, but the high end is never lost. The fuzz is very musical, and not too compressed and muddy with tons of dynamics. I can play everything from classic rock, blues, to doom metal on this thing. It really is an incredible pedal. The sound is one You will love. I have a Gibson SG, 78 Ibanez LP clone and a Gretsch 5122, run through a Blues Deluxe. They all sound great, especially with the BD. It sounds even better if you add a slight amount of overdrive (i use a super hard on), it gains articulation that way. You can hear every note on a chord. Highly recommended. The Okayest Guitarist in Town, m
I highly recommend the EQD Palisades OD. I have had it for a few months and you will not be disappointed. Modeled after the classic TS808, this pedal can crank out all of your favorite OD sounds and more. Two gain stages, a clean boost, 6 clipping voices and 5 bandwidth settings give you ultimate control to dial in that killer sound. The Palisades also offers a built-in buffer and and a Bright switch to help dial in that perfect tone. Another high-quality EQD pedal that you should definitely have on your board.Knox
The best Overdrive on the market. It gives me several variations in tone while enhancing harmonics. Provides me with way more options than what a Tube Screamer could. The EQD Palisades makes my already great amp better. EQD really do think outside of the box, and If you want to take your tone to the next level, these are the pedals .Marky S,
13. Dod Carcosa Fuzz Pedal
Product Details:
This item was returned in mint condition. it is free of any performance issues, and has no scratches, blemishes, or other cosmetic flaws. the dod carcosa fuzz is a doorway into an alternate fuzz universe, where classic tones of legend coexist with splattered and shattered pollock abstractions. combining the carcosa's wide-ranging after bias control with two toggle positions creates tones that range from porcine fatness to desiccated shards. this versatility makes the carcosa fuzz a good companion for dirty or clean amps. true bypass, tons of output, and the visage of the king in yellow sets the stage for fuzzy madness. the dod carcosa fuzz has an exaggerated mid-range and treble character that help it stand out in a mix. it has been designed to cut through a dense and heavy band but still have great note articulation with chords. however, when extreme bias (after) ranges are selected many wild and over-the-top sounds are possible.

Reviews:
I've basically retired my FZ-2 since getting this pedal. The Carcosa is way more versatile, and generally just better, retains note clarity while still putting out a massive wall of fuzz! It is a bit noisy, however, so maybe don't put it before another OD/Boost/etc.WildStingray-52170
I bought this in hopes of getting some weird sounds of it, and I succeeded. It helps to download the instructions, which give you an idea of what each knob does. Still, I found the best results though twiddling knobs while playing. I play bass with all the dexterousness of a mummy wearing oven mitts, but the Carcosa doesn't care. I can dial up some distant fuzz (like you're hearing someone playing through a wall), a blurry buzz that sounds like a swarm of large wasps and an unearthly, full-throated roar. If you blast out a sustained note and spin a knob or two, you get dizzying warp-spasms. The "demi/hali" switch sounds better on "demi" for bass; it thickens up you sound and doesn't seem to sap your tone. I've also noticed that the Carcosa responds better through larger speakers. It's not totally useless through smaller amps (it sounded OK through one of those Ampeg mini-stacks with the 2×10 speakers) but the sounds that come ouf of a 4×10 or 2×15 cab are richer and have more detail. It's a fun, oddball pedal that doesn't sound like anything but itself.Holgar
14. Orange Fur Coat Fuzz Octave Pedal
Product Details:
Great condition! the previous owner put a little too much glue on the back so there's a little sticky residue but otherwise in excellent shape. sounds perfect. no original box or manual. seriously thick fuzz even before you stomp on the octave footswitch, the orange fur coat spits out seriously thick fuzz. inspired by the legendary 1970's-era foxx tone machine, this octave fuzz pedal injects your playing with endless sustain and a gorgeous sputtery character that's guaranteed to please any fuzz connoisseur. run the fur coat into a clean amp for a tamer sound, or crank the eq knob and thrust a dimed amp into out-of-control cacophony. the octave effect is very responsive in fact, you can control it with your guitar's volume knob. from woolly to ear-piercing, the fur coat delivers a fat, fuzzed-out sound that demands to be heard. the fur coat is an old-school fuzz, so place it directly after your guitar, before any buffers, and use a guitar with passive pickups.

Reviews:
This is my first fuzz pedal, I wasn't really sure what I would be able to do with it since the music im creating with my band doesn't really use any distorted sounds, but I was super blown away!! It gave our music a whole new different vibe, so much more rich sound! I highly recommend it.Luis G
Absolutely ripping fuzz pedal with a really thick and deep fuzz sound possessing great ability to sculpt the tone with the EQ control going from deep heavy to bright treble saw blade your ears off ripping fuzz. The core tone of the pedal is solid and all the variations you can get from that point all work. Can also handle palm muting with ease if you need that solid 'chunk chunk' sound…which most fuzz pedals can't do without getting too messy and washy or flubby. Having the blend control for the octave mode is just brilliant to dial in just the right amount of octave fuzz with the main fuzz tone for the given situation. And it has a tonne of output level, very powerful. Excellent pedal.jbuddtronics
First off, it Orange so I knew it was gonna be a cool vintage vibe. Super fun fuzz pedal, LED light glows blue when its on and the settings are really easy to adjust and dial in. The octave option was not what I expected. There is a red light that glows within the blue LED when it is on, which is kinda hard to see, and the sound only really cuts through on certain settings, otherwise it just ads noise. What I ended up dialing in sounded more like a citar (sp?) than a fuzz with octave. Not really what I was looking for, but Im sure Ill find some use for it. Also makes for a great warm distortion tone when run after a TS808. I would give it five stars but the octave option was a bit misleading. Still plan on keeping it, still really enjoy it.jerryo227

Reviews:
All in all a solid bigmuff clone in small package. The tone knob is nice, you can sculpt a grainy treble or just a nice full warm fuzz, I lean towards the middle. I combined this with a golden horseman that has its gain up too, and it creates a nice doomy stoner sound. So for what it does, the price, and amount of space on a pedal board that this takes up this pedal on point.kulturv-13
16. Wampler Velvet Fuzz Guitar Pedal
Product Details:
The wampler velvet fuzz is a fuzz pedal designed to capture classic fuzz tones used by the likes of david gilmour or eric johnson. there are three simple controls for volume, fuzz, and brightness to shape your tone. the additional big/tight toggle switch will change the clipping between pure fuzz (big) and a distortion with fuzz like tones (tight). the wampler velvet fuzz is true bypass and can be powered by a standard 9 volt dc adaptor with 2.1mm negative center barrel. current draw is 23 ma.
Specifications:
Finish | Black |
Year | 2010s |
Made In | United States |
Reviews:
The Velvet Fuzz is a polished-sounding unit, even when it emits searing, soaring, sustaining, molten notes. The EQ curve is sculpted to avoid the wooliness of a Fuzz Face or the big punching-a-pillow lows of a Big Muff. The treble is smooth, almost dark, without the brittle rasp of a Tone Bender or the piercing shards of a silicon Fuzz Face. This is a sound that people who aren't ordinarily into fuzz could appreciate. And it has the modern conveniences — 9VDC input, LED indicator — sometimes lacking from purist fuzz designs. There is a lot to like and not much to offend — though for fuzz purists, that might be a problem.hopcat

Reviews:
there are some very attractive things about this box but it has some issues… polyphony being the main one… overlapping notes create a miserable grainy high end chaos noise… so you have to use it very cautiously and articulate your attacks and note offs to avoid the onslaught of this unmusical aliasing morass… i've only been exploring it for a week or so so my jury is still out on the ultimate verdict about it's usability… the good news is that it doesn't sound like some crappy preset box synth… the legato waves are rich in themselves.. etcdalin-4440
18. Jhs – Legends Of Fuzz – Smiley
Product Details:
Jhs pedals smiley – fuzz jimi hendrix was released in london in 1966 and the then new arbiter electronics fuzz face became his favorite fuzz pedal – the rest is history. in the first few years the fuzz face was built with germanium transistors until the pedal was completely converted to silicon transistors in 1969. hendrix himself preferred the silicon version because of the more aggressive, snappy sound and of course because of the better durability. the jhs pedals smiley offers a faithful reproduction of the properties that make the early silicon fuzz faces a milestone in music history to this day. several vintage pedals have been carefully analyzed to perfectly capture the magic of this era with the smiley face. the smiley is clear and defined and straddles the line between fuzz effects pedal and 'sawing' sustain. the stompbox gets the low-end and the crisp bite in the midrange as you would expect from a vintage arbiter pedal. one of the most revered qualities of a good fuzz f.

This was my favorite stomp right out of the box. Super smooth and seriously THICK. I think theMuffuletta is more versatile. If you are a MUFFman then you need this pedal. I don't understand the9volt disclaimer, is it not to be used with a daisy chain power supply like the "One Spot"? I have powered with a real battery and a "Power Plus 2" on the big pedal board with no problems. I did not try a "One Spot" yet…Alabama ChainSaw
Great pedal, quite niche, but a different pedal in the marketplace of a gazillion pedals all doing the same thing. JHS Pedals are always good. I’ve marked it down for value for money because most pedals are a massive ripoff, but that’s the market we’ve created.Reviewed by Andertons Music Co.
