I have heard no after market pickup that more faithfully reproduces the tone of an acoustic guitar. Easy install, comes with jig and extra adhesive strips in case you (or your friend), oh I don't know, drop your guitar on the concrete floor of a Masaai church in Kenya and have to send your guitar back to the states for repair, but want to put the pickup into a cheap yahama for the time being. Baggs even sent me and extra jig and adhesives, in Kenya, to install it. And it makes the Yamaha sound very good, even though it doesn't even really sound that good acoustically! An amazing pickup that I will use as long as they are still in production! Easy to use, easy to install, virtually indestructible, lightweight and invisible. Outstanding quality and design. After considerable research I had a Baggs iBeam active installed in my Martin D28 – I'd found the D28 recorded well with a mic, but tended to be boomy when mic'd for live sound reinforcement. An experienced Martin guitar tech installed it for me. I've tried it straight into a mixing board and through a Genz-Benz Shen Pro-LT. It sounds oh so very natural, and gets all the gain I need. It really shines for finger-style. It may not be a good choice in loud environments, as it would probably feedback, but in such situations tonal subtlety is usually less important. It was also important that it was both visually unobtrusive and physically non-invasive. That way it can be replaced – the D28 is likely to outlive the useful life of any pickup system. I am picky about sound quality and am quite happy…price was reasonable too.Return2Normal
Sound: Installed it in a Composite Acoustics Legacy/Dreadnought guitar. The sound is very natural. A lot easier to install. Like one other person said here it is real boomy at your regular settings. I had to back the bass off on my amp. It is real microphone sounding as thats probably what it is. Thus it is feedback prone if you are sitting in front of your speakers. It did well in a solo performance. Not sure how well it will do in a setting where volume is needed. But I would just use a different guitar. I do like it a lot. Features: Has a volume wheel you stick inside the sound hole out of sight. Ease of Use: With the installation jig that comes with it you can position the pickup exactly under the saddle perfectly. I really did not want to get into drilling holes under the saddle for the pickup wires, soldering wires, and sanding down the saddle. Installation is a snap. The Wow Factor: A pretty girl came up and said my guitar sounded real nice.

Hands down! The best sound for an acoustic. I was looking for something that I could hear each string with the same balance. And this pickup was perfect! This pickup works great. It's easy to install yourself if you're brave. It took me about an hour. I recommend several pieces of tape over the end pin hole before you drill the guitar, this helps prevent chipping the finish, I also recommend access to a good belt sander to get the bridge sanded down just right to compensate for the pickup underneath it. First of all, to those who are complaining about hum from this pickup, the problem is not the pickup but probably the amp you are using. Either you don't have your EQ set right or you just have a cheap amp . I have a Fishman Loudbox Mini and I don't have any issues with hum or feedback when I'm using this pickup. Upgrade to a quality amp and you won't have any of these issues you speak of. Now , I was previously using a Dean Markley Pro Mag SC-1 and this baby easily blows it away in terms of both sound and tone. I have my own solo Acoustic act and this pickup has held it's own already at my gigs. It's made my Taylor Big Baby sound more like a Taylor 810 . Definitely worth the price.Jeffo46
I've used an SA-3SC from the Woody Series for a few years and found it to be a really good pick up that enriches the sound of my acoustic guitars. I've always assumed the SA-3SC to be a single coil, and the SA-3HC to be a humbucker, so I was rather expecting the SA-3HC to be able to produce an even mellower sound than the SA-3SC. Initially I found the two to be very similar in sound and given that the SA-3HC also carries a higher price tag, I found this to be a bit disappointing. However, I've only played straight into the amp so far, so it may be that if used in combination with a pre-amp it can give a different range in tones from the SA-3SC, so I'm happy to persevere with it. So in conclusion, it's a great pick up, but the real differences between the pick ups in the Woody Series may require certain pre-amp settings in order to be appreciated. Others may disagree, and this of course is just my personal impression. But as a standalone pick up the SA-3HC itself is a great, and well worth buying.mixalis0209
I had a Dean Markley soundhole pickup for my guitar and left it in my hardshell case in a storage locker. I've played my acoustic around the house and campfires, etc. but didn't really need the case since I played out with my electric. Anyway, at some point, for whatever reason, the case and said pickup disappeared. I had an acoustic Christmas gig coming up and needed a new pickup. A friend of mine suggested the Seymour Duncan because it was supposed to give a "warmer" tone, so I went in that direction. One word – fabulous. Easy to install, enough clearance so strings didn't twang off it, and the sound was top notch. Made my 20+ year old acoustic guitar sound better than it has in years. No cracks, pops, or cut-outs. Just after Christmas 2012 I had this installed in my Epiphone EJ200. I usually obsess over things like this for a while, reading review after review of the choices and looking at vids on YouTube. Finally I pulled the trigger on this one, and I must say it's pretty darn impressive. It gives a really really close to true acoustic sound, but where it totally shines is when you throw in a bit of chorus or some other effect. Five minutes ago I was playing along with some bluesy backing tracks through a Vox AD30VT modeling amp. I dialed in a nice jazzy tone, added some delay and I am VERY happy with the sound. I had expected the original batteries to have fizzled by now, but 11 months and hundreds of hours later, they are still good. I do need to mention that they had the price for the passive pickup on the stack of these active ones, which we discovered after it was in my guitar, so I got the deal of the year! I have had an Epiphone EJ200 for a few years now, great guitar, great sound BUT the Shadow e-sonic pickups were not. The under-saddle became very noisy and finally gave up. Been looking for a pick up to amplify my Gibson J45. Love the natural sound of that guitar and wanted something that would stay true to the acoustic tone. Tried the rare earth HB after reading the other reviews and was not disappointed. Absolutely great pu. Keeps as true to the natural sound as anything I've heard. I actually like this better than the factory expression system in my Taylor and I thought that was really good until I heard the Fishman. It's dead quiet too. No hum or feedback due to the humbucking features. You get volume control only with this but I prefer to use the amp to control everything else anyway, so no down side for me as is. I knew the minute I heard this, it was going to stay with the Gibson for good, so I permanently mounted it. Very easy to do if you're handy with tools but not for the faint of heart. You will need to drill out the end pin hole on your guitar to accommodate the end jack and will also need to shorten the lead that's supplied and do some soldering. Take it to a professional if any of this makes you nervous. Was so thrilled, I bought a second one within a week for another acoustic I have and permanently mounted that one too. Just be sure to leave enough lead wire slack to allow you to take the pu out of the hole for battery changes. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to amplify a straight acoustic and wants to stay as true to its original tone as possible.

I bought this for a gig on acoustic. The pick-up is for a standard sound hole. I have various pro guitars: Gibson J-200, Martin OM-45 etc. it's great to be able to switch guitars with the pickup. The pickup is braced by dense foam along the sides which is about two and half times thicker than the soundboard. This allows you some adjustment on distance from the strings. I can definitely recommend this pickup to anyone needing to amp a standard acoustic that doesn't have built-in pickups. The product is nicely packaged in a reusable cloth bag with instruction book and a long cable.gtrjoe
I needed a pickup to rotate between three vintage acoustics. I didn't want to do any modifications or permanent installation to these guitars. After some research the Woody XL seemed the logical choice. I was right. Installation was easy, though the virgin neoprene is a little stubborn at first. But it was immediately apparent that the pole pieces at the same height put the sound out of balance. 5 minutes of tweaking pole heights and I got this pickup sounding really good and well balanced. Of the Woody pickup series the XL is the one to buy. It is both noiseless and adjustable. The HC is similar, noiseless, but doesn't have the adjustable pole pieces. The SC is single coil and wasn't even a consideration for me. Though it doesn't have a volume or tone control I wouldn't call that a negative, just missing features. I do find the 14' non detachable cable a bit of a nuisance. If you unplug from your amp or box you have to drag 12' of excess cable along with you. At some point in the future I plan on bobbing the cable to reach just beyond the end pin of my guitars and put a female connector on it to accept standard guitar cables. I think this is the one area that Seymour Duncan might improve the design.Vincent
Too early to know for sure whether this will fulfil my requirements but sounds good so far. I've fitted the Woody XL to a Tanglewood TW170AS with Elixir Nanoweb Light strings, and initially the 2 solid strings (and possibly the third wound B string) were much louder than the wound ones. I think lowering the corresponding cores of the pickup has improved the balance but I need to spend more time exploring this. (And clearly this is only an option if you buy the more expensive XL pickup with adjustable cores.)DJP

Fully functional and in excellent condition. removed from a gretsch gin rickey model guitar. guitar unfortunately suffered a severe neck break so i salvaged the pickup. pickup simply mounts across sound hole. (5 1/2 inches across). the cord and input can either be installed internally or externally. you d have to drill a hole to fit the input internally if there isn t an exhausting hole. then it just screws down with a hex nut and washer and the strap button screws in as well. cord measures approximately 20 and 1/4 inches long from base of pickup to end.

I really can't find any cons. This little device is just so easy to set up and install. Plug it into either an acoustic amp or into an electric guitar amp., the results are unbelievably good. I'm running it through a Boss GT1 Effects Processor and into a Fender Mustang amp and it is just superb. It sounds pretty good but the output is a little weak for me. No volume/output power control. I also recently bought the De'Armond sound hole pup. I think I like that better—but this is still pretty good. The output was a little weak to drive an old Peavey 20 amp—but the body of the guitar is also smaller than the other guitar that I put the DeArmond pup on. The Gretsch name kind of beckoned to me knowing how wonderful the big jazz box Gretsch guitars sound. Actually, I own the LB12 which is nothing more than the LB6, but only for the 12 string. I own two Martin 12 string guitars and both of them have the LB12 installed in them and have never regretted installing them. They are the sweetest acoustic guitar pickup on the market. You'd swear your guitar was being miked by one of the best condenser mikes on the market. That is the only way I can describe how good the Baggs sounds. I do mike mine just intentionally for getting the sound that is being projected from the soundhole as well. You will not get any feedback from this pickup either. Believe me, I have tried them all, only to be disappointed in the sound, especially disappointed with the brand Fishman, which are simply junk and cannot hold up to the Baggs. So do yourself a favor and buy the best. Get a LR Baggs LB6 or LB12 and be happy for life.Johnny Favorite

Despite seeing the one-star review on this item, I decided to try it. Big mistake. When plugging in the cord to power up the pickup, the light would come on when the cord was half-way in and then turn back off when the cord was fully in. So I returned it for another one, figuring I couldn't get two that were faulty, right? Wrong. Big mistake. The second unit did the exact same thing. Basically, this thing is junk in a box. I've had my Taylor 614CE Grand Auditorium with the Taylor Expression pickup in it for almost 14 years now and never was pleased with the EQ options with the pickup. Solo/acoustic, it was fine because it had a nice "warmth" about it and made my sound more "full," but performing with my band and/or other musicians, it would "muddy" up the sound and would never "cut through" like I wanted it to. I tried various pedals and other EQ'ing options, but nothing every worked to get the sound like I wanted it to. Another problem I had was it had ZERO percussive capabilities for my looping shows. A fellow musician recommended the Fishman Matrix Infinity, and after weeks of researching various pickups, I decided to go with it and can't be more happier! I can get a "kick drum" sound out of my acoustic now, if needed, and the blending option allows me to get various effects/sounds I never had an option to get out of my old system. I would HIGHLY recommend this pickup for any guitar!

Ich wollte in meiner 15 Jahre alten Gitarre den defekten Tonabnehmer eigentlich reparieren und habe mit dem Hersteller Kontakt aufgenommen, da scheinbar nur das Lautstärkerädchen defekt war. Da dieser nicht reagierte, habe ich nach einer Alternative gesucht und bin auf den Shadow-Nanoflex für Konzertgitarre gestoßen. Dieser war sehr einfach einzubauen, da die Hauptbohrung an der Zarge bereits vorhanden war. Lediglich die 3 mm Bohrung unter der Stegeinlage musste neu platziert werden. Das war aber überhaupt kein Problem. Überraschend war der wirklich gute Klang. Besser als beim ursprünglich eingebauten Tonabnehmer und weniger als halb so teuer. Fazit: Zum Austausch für den Selbsteinbau sehr geeignet. Für denjenigen, der keine Hemmungen hat ein Loch in die Zarge zu borhren ein guter Tonabnehmer zum Nachrüsten seiner Konzertgitarre.

The guitars seen in Watteau's paintings we now refer to as "baroque guitars". (In the Baroque era, which didn't call itself that, pretty much every European language designated it a "Spanish guitar" — except in Spain, where it was unsurprisingly simply called a guitar, period.) I've got two, one expensive (for me) — crafted in England in 1980 (a 300th anniversary Voboam atelier commemorative edition), weird, beautiful, boxy tone even with historical-tension Nylgut (real gut is for me an insupportable extravagance), elaborately ornamented and quite fragile, leaving the house only on rare occasions — and one not so much — made in Pakistan recently (a crude-ish copy of a Sellas workshop production from 1630s Venice), built like a tank, Nylgut-strung, good enough for weddings, funerals, restaurants, etc. Both reasonably accurate replicas in their different ways, both insanely quiet, designed for intimate settings in a much less noisy era. So, amplification: not optional. But mics are a performance-cramping pain when sweating 17th-c. repertory at my low skill level, and the Barcus-Berry transducer I was obliged to affix to the exterior of the workhorse instrument — the carved rosette in its soundhole renders breaching the interior impossible — looked awful and, through no fault of the pickup, never quite worked. When I heard about the Kremona, I decided to try it, and I'm glad I did. It yields the best amplified representation of the instrument's tone I've yet achieved; also, it integrates well appearance-wise with the ornate mustache bridge. Per the durability issue, the unit is held so tightly to the bridge by the guitar's five double courses and its jack positioned so close to the first course that only main force coupled with bad luck could effect the snapping-off referred to elsewhere. But I don't plan ever to uninstall it, so I guess my situation differs from that of someone taking it off and putting it on on a regular basis. Anyway, verdict: 10 thumbs up!Kevin McFoy Dunn
Nice sounding easy to install pickup for nylon-stringed guitar. It slips under strings on top of tie bar. It can be installed without changing strings but you have to loosen them up a lot to get under them. Once installed, you plug in with 9 foot skinny cable or a smaller cable that you can then attach to a higher quality 1/4 inch cable of your choice and included belt clip. Have not had issues with it snapping as others apparently have. I leave it on the guitar at all times and plug it in when I want to play through my amp. Sound is excellent for a piezo.Franklin M
The Kremona NG-1 pickup is an excellent solution to the problem of amplifying a traditional classical guitar without having to alter the instrument in any way. The laminated wooden blade slips under the strings on the tie bar without a lot of fuss and the amplified sound is quite good! I would recommend using an acoustic guitar processor or good acoustic guitar amp to tweak the sound but given the price, it's an amazingly effective solution. HOWEVER…it is a very, very fragile device and it wouldn't take much to break it. One must take great care in plugging and unplugging the cord from the unit. Any sudden jerks of the cord could break it and it can easily break from shutting a guitar case lid on it. Still, if you need to amplify your '68 Ramirez without drilling holes or hanging contraptions off of it, this is the way to go. I have to think someone will create a more durable, reliable variation on this idea. Until then, this will do a more than credible job.usdaprime61
