I bought this for a gig on acoustic. The pick-up is for a standard sound hole. I have various pro guitars: Gibson J-200, Martin OM-45 etc. it's great to be able to switch guitars with the pickup. The pickup is braced by dense foam along the sides which is about two and half times thicker than the soundboard. This allows you some adjustment on distance from the strings. I can definitely recommend this pickup to anyone needing to amp a standard acoustic that doesn't have built-in pickups. The product is nicely packaged in a reusable cloth bag with instruction book and a long cable.gtrjoe
I needed a pickup to rotate between three vintage acoustics. I didn't want to do any modifications or permanent installation to these guitars. After some research the Woody XL seemed the logical choice. I was right. Installation was easy, though the virgin neoprene is a little stubborn at first. But it was immediately apparent that the pole pieces at the same height put the sound out of balance. 5 minutes of tweaking pole heights and I got this pickup sounding really good and well balanced. Of the Woody pickup series the XL is the one to buy. It is both noiseless and adjustable. The HC is similar, noiseless, but doesn't have the adjustable pole pieces. The SC is single coil and wasn't even a consideration for me. Though it doesn't have a volume or tone control I wouldn't call that a negative, just missing features. I do find the 14' non detachable cable a bit of a nuisance. If you unplug from your amp or box you have to drag 12' of excess cable along with you. At some point in the future I plan on bobbing the cable to reach just beyond the end pin of my guitars and put a female connector on it to accept standard guitar cables. I think this is the one area that Seymour Duncan might improve the design.Vincent
Too early to know for sure whether this will fulfil my requirements but sounds good so far. I've fitted the Woody XL to a Tanglewood TW170AS with Elixir Nanoweb Light strings, and initially the 2 solid strings (and possibly the third wound B string) were much louder than the wound ones. I think lowering the corresponding cores of the pickup has improved the balance but I need to spend more time exploring this. (And clearly this is only an option if you buy the more expensive XL pickup with adjustable cores.)DJP

Very good pick-up and easy to fit without chopping up my old guitar. One slight issue: the poles are spaced slightly too far apart for my Gibson J50. Optimum sound hole size info is provided in the blurb but not string spacing. I can get some overlap on 1st and 6th strings by turning the pickup so it does the job. Since this is a passive pick up it does require a substantial increase in volume from your amp or input. I run it through a red eye twin DI which helps greatly and can adjust the gain. I combined this pick up with a K&K and gives an incredible sound. The pole pieces do need to be adjusted and tailored to your liking. The B and e pieces need to be dropped down significantly. For me I needed to increase the base E, A and D to give a fuller sound. When I compare the K&K to this pick up their pretty close. The K&K has a better definition and clarity but they are close and for some reason when I put them together through the red eye twin di they sound magical together. You really need to adjust the K&K input down and crank up the black angle since it's allot lower input. 50/50 mix of the two sound great.G

I've owned this pickup before & have an OM/GA sized acoustic. It's 93mm across the sound hole so normal sized humbucker sound hole pickups won't fit. I knew this one would because of its spring. That really saved the day! The volume control on the pickup is very useful. It has the hum rejection of a regular humbucker but doesn't have that 'thick' sound. Have used it in a Gibson B-25 concert size guitar since the 70's. The tone I get with the aged acoustic is thick and mellow. It nudges me toward the music of Sade and Santana and Rickie Lee Jones. My guitar shop installed an end pin quarter-inch jack (the strap goes right around it) and that solved the cable placement issue. The cable goes to the jack and is entirely inside the body. In truth, you can get almost any sound you need simply by adjusting the tone of your amp. Brighter sound, darker, in between; it's all there. It's basic: cheap but reliable and unobtrusive.trudeau

They said the MojoTone Quiet Coil NC-1 Acoustic Soundhole Pickup sounds natural. I was very surprised to find that it really sounds great. I do not detect that typical soundhole pickup "electric guitar" sound. Very feedback resistant as well. It looks good for what it is also. I like it so much that I decided on a permanent installation on my 000-15SM. Highly recomended. Would I record with it? Probably not on solo guitar, or maybe mixed with mic signal…but in a group setting, yes
Overall: I play regular acoustic gigs, and for the past 10+ years I've used an LR Baggs M1 Active. It's a great pickup. But recently I've been been playing more lead parts than usual, and I found the Baggs to be a little lacking somehow…just not as responsive and balanced as I'd like. I tried several preamp pedals to compensate, but wasn't really happy. On a whim, I decided to try the Mojotone NC-1. Holy cow! It was night and day difference. I mean a HUGE difference. Compared to the Baggs, the NC-1 just sounds bigger, more realistic, more alive and more balanced. It makes the Baggs sound like a piezo in comparison. There is so much more of the sonic spectrum covered. It's absolutely huge and rich. I'll be buying a second one shortly for my other acoustic.
Overall: I put this in my Martin HD-28 and it sounds very much like my guitar. It's really sensitive and I can hear when I tap the top or pickup coming through which I guess is part of the natural tone. I was worried about feedback but cranked through my Bose L1 it was completely silent with absolutely no feedback. This replaced an M-80 because it was unusable at high volumes with feedback and didn't sound nearly as good. I'm very happy with this purchase!

First of all, to those who are complaining about hum from this pickup, the problem is not the pickup but probably the amp you are using. Either you don't have your EQ set right or you just have a cheap amp . I have a Fishman Loudbox Mini and I don't have any issues with hum or feedback when I'm using this pickup. Upgrade to a quality amp and you won't have any of these issues you speak of. Now , I was previously using a Dean Markley Pro Mag SC-1 and this baby easily blows it away in terms of both sound and tone. I have my own solo Acoustic act and this pickup has held it's own already at my gigs. It's made my Taylor Big Baby sound more like a Taylor 810 . Definitely worth the price.Jeffo46
I've used an SA-3SC from the Woody Series for a few years and found it to be a really good pick up that enriches the sound of my acoustic guitars. I've always assumed the SA-3SC to be a single coil, and the SA-3HC to be a humbucker, so I was rather expecting the SA-3HC to be able to produce an even mellower sound than the SA-3SC. Initially I found the two to be very similar in sound and given that the SA-3HC also carries a higher price tag, I found this to be a bit disappointing. However, I've only played straight into the amp so far, so it may be that if used in combination with a pre-amp it can give a different range in tones from the SA-3SC, so I'm happy to persevere with it. So in conclusion, it's a great pick up, but the real differences between the pick ups in the Woody Series may require certain pre-amp settings in order to be appreciated. Others may disagree, and this of course is just my personal impression. But as a standalone pick up the SA-3HC itself is a great, and well worth buying.mixalis0209
I had a Dean Markley soundhole pickup for my guitar and left it in my hardshell case in a storage locker. I've played my acoustic around the house and campfires, etc. but didn't really need the case since I played out with my electric. Anyway, at some point, for whatever reason, the case and said pickup disappeared. I had an acoustic Christmas gig coming up and needed a new pickup. A friend of mine suggested the Seymour Duncan because it was supposed to give a "warmer" tone, so I went in that direction. One word – fabulous. Easy to install, enough clearance so strings didn't twang off it, and the sound was top notch. Made my 20+ year old acoustic guitar sound better than it has in years. No cracks, pops, or cut-outs. Just after Christmas 2012 I had this installed in my Epiphone EJ200. I usually obsess over things like this for a while, reading review after review of the choices and looking at vids on YouTube. Finally I pulled the trigger on this one, and I must say it's pretty darn impressive. It gives a really really close to true acoustic sound, but where it totally shines is when you throw in a bit of chorus or some other effect. Five minutes ago I was playing along with some bluesy backing tracks through a Vox AD30VT modeling amp. I dialed in a nice jazzy tone, added some delay and I am VERY happy with the sound. I had expected the original batteries to have fizzled by now, but 11 months and hundreds of hours later, they are still good. I do need to mention that they had the price for the passive pickup on the stack of these active ones, which we discovered after it was in my guitar, so I got the deal of the year! Been looking for a pick up to amplify my Gibson J45. Love the natural sound of that guitar and wanted something that would stay true to the acoustic tone. Tried the rare earth HB after reading the other reviews and was not disappointed. Absolutely great pu. Keeps as true to the natural sound as anything I've heard. I actually like this better than the factory expression system in my Taylor and I thought that was really good until I heard the Fishman. It's dead quiet too. No hum or feedback due to the humbucking features. You get volume control only with this but I prefer to use the amp to control everything else anyway, so no down side for me as is. I knew the minute I heard this, it was going to stay with the Gibson for good, so I permanently mounted it. Very easy to do if you're handy with tools but not for the faint of heart. You will need to drill out the end pin hole on your guitar to accommodate the end jack and will also need to shorten the lead that's supplied and do some soldering. Take it to a professional if any of this makes you nervous. Was so thrilled, I bought a second one within a week for another acoustic I have and permanently mounted that one too. Just be sure to leave enough lead wire slack to allow you to take the pu out of the hole for battery changes. I highly recommend this to anyone looking to amplify a straight acoustic and wants to stay as true to its original tone as possible.

I debated whether to mic the guitar and go for a 100% acoustic sound or install a coil pickup and enjoy an electric sound with acoustic overtones. I went for the latter and purchased the Lace California pickup. I wanted something that would tuck up neatly against the neck and slender so as not to obstruct the sound hole. To tuck it tightly against the neck I had to trim a corner of the pickup to clear the raised pick-guard. Once installed it looked pretty good. It got the acid test under florescent lights, played through a vintage Fender Bassman. The sound was better than expected and hummmmm was nowhere to be found. It's been more than a year and the pickup is still installed and doing its job. Yes, I would do it again. It is a quality built product, delivering as advertised, at a fair price.Tuna Tim
The Pickup; This is a real nice sounding pickup. I have two of them installed on an older Alvarez and a Martin LXM. I don't really have any gripes about the tone and overall sound. I like the way they fit into the sound hole with the cork clamp setup. It would be nice if they had a volume/tone wheel like the more expensive brands, but it's still ok with me. They are very quiet and almost feedback free. It was a real nice upgrade to both guitars. NOTE: Will fit into the sound hole of Martin LXM but just barely. The Endpin Jack; Seems to be of good quality but the picture MF has is not what the endpin really looks like. The picture shows an endpin jack with enough threads to go though the small block of wood on the Baby Martin. Mine came with a rubber coating and lacked enough thread to pass through this block. It worked perfect on the Alvarez and I had it installed in about 15 minutes. Instead of sending it back, I ordered the endpin jack like the one shown in the picture with plenty of threads to spare. NOTE: The original endpin hole on the Martin was way to small, so drilling that hole larger to 15/32" will be required if you put one on a Martin LXM. Bottom Line; This is a nice sounding pickup and very easy to install on most guitars.Foxcrik

This is the best magnetic acoustic pickup I have encountered in a long time. It is very hot and sounds good. I have not had much experience with the mic yet, but I'm not too interested in it, anyway.
